    Top 10 PS4 Games: for when you’re stuck at home

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

    Being stuck at home can become dreary for just about anybody, after a while. This is why we’ve decided to give you our ‘remedy’ for the couch-potato boredom mode you might be facing. What might that be? A fantastic complication of 10 of the best PS4 games you can play to boost your mood during these interesting times.

    Yes we know, they might not be everyone’s favourite games, but as some smart people say, don’t knock it before you try it!

    1. Red Dead Redemption 2

    For lovers of Westerns, watch out! This game will have you hooked. Seriously though, it’s spoken of as Rockstar’s greatest achievement to date and we’d honestly be crazy to disagree. A gripping Western tale set in an impressive open world, Red Dead defies everyday game concepts and delivers an appx. 60-hour story experience like no other. Pop on your couch/bed/chair (whatever) grab a blanket, a snack and prepare to be immersed in the past. Yeehaw!

    2. The Last of Us Remastered

    With Sony announcing its latest project ‘the Last of Us’ TV show, it’s the perfect excuse to go back to, or play for the first time, this incredible game. It’s truly hard to believe that the initial release date was all the way back in 2014, time certainly flies! Remastered from the PS3 to the PS4, the Last of Us gained fans for a lifetime with its deeply captivating apocalyptic story. Who wouldn’t fall in love with Ellie and Joel’s relationship? If you love killing zombies, being stealthy and kicking some major ass, this game is definitely right for you.

    3. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

    If we could explain this game in 3 words, we’d probably say; sorcery, gore, and sex and that would probably be a pretty accurate summary. Jokes aside, the Witcher has captured the world’s attention following the recent Netflix series I may or may not have binge-watched in one night. Incredible scenery, multi-dimensional fighting, brutal quests and a romance here or there will have you set for hours on end. What better way to de-stress than chopping the head off a wolf, dragon or creature straight from your darkest nightmares?

    4.God of War (2018)

    What does this all mean to you?’ ‘It’s everything.’

    No, it’s not a secret how much I personally love the 2018 God of War game and I’ll defend it til the day I die. I am not a dramatic person, but besides Assasin’s Creed, God of War touched my very soul with its immense beauty and depth. Receiving an incredible amount of awards, this is considered to be one of the greatest games of the decade. Stunning views, satisfying fights, a father-son relationship to cry over, and gameplay seemingly unmatched, every little detail seems to have been created by the gods themselves. If you haven’t played God of War yet, self-isolation just gave you a reason to get it (if there isn’t anything else).

    5.Call of Duty Modern Warfare (2019)

    Call of Duty is nearly one of the most rage-inducing multiplayer games I’ve ever played, but arguably one of the most fun, even with the masterful campaign. Filled with many nostalgic maps and modes, the 2019 Call of Duty title has an estimate of 20 million players across PS4, PC, and Xbox. The most recent update: Warzone, an epic addition that offers 2 core modes, Battle Royale and Plunder. Warzone just adds an incredible element for people tired of the standard multiplayer modes and is unlike any other BR out there.

    6.Assasin’s Creed Odyssey

    Imagine Greek Mythology, history, breathtaking scenery, immersive storytelling, and incredible battles. Have that in your head? You’ve just imagined Assasin’s Creed Odyssey. This is by far one of my favorite games and as someone who loves history and exploration, it ticked all the right boxes. This title takes you deep into Ancient Greece where you’ll encounter many mythological beasts like the Minotaur and Medusa, solving puzzles, killing and traveling around. With extensive skill builds and gear, the game is very customisable and not one person’s experience will be the same as the other. It’s a massive game and definitely one to go for while you’ve got the chance.

    7.Grand Theft Auto V

    GTA is very nostalgic for me as it was the very first game I ever owned on a PlayStation. This game is really anything you want it to be, though offers you 3 unique perspectives from characters you either hate or love; Trevor, Franklin, and Michael. Trevor is likely the funniest and most aggravating of the three, but he makes the game complete. If you’re not interested in the campaign, you can always opt for the multiplayer mode to enjoy a little bit of fun. It’s a crazy game, but one that will definitely put you in a good mood (doesn’t every hit and run?).

    8.Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

    The final title in Naughty Dog’s Uncharted legacy, a Thief’s End takes us on the last epic adventure with the beloved Nathan Drake. From daring heists, ruins, volcanic plains, and the islands of Madagascar, you’ll explore and fight for survival in an incredibly beautiful semi-open world. It is fun and engaging, especially if you’re a treasure-hunting extraordinaire. It has its let-downs, but overall it’s a great way to spend your time at home.

    9.Marvel’s Spider-Man

    As a fan of Marvel comics and of course the movies, I was pretty hyped to hear that a Spider-Man game was in the cards. Swinging around the glistening, vice-filled city of New York is oddly satisfying and with the heart-pounding fights in flight, you really feel immersed in the world of Spider-Man. Who doesn’t want to be a neighbourhood superhero? It’s got some great storylines and exciting gameplay, though in some areas it can become a bit dreary. Our vote, it’s the perfect game to play when you just want to chill with some quality gameplay.

    10. Fifa 20

    I’m including this here for all the sports lovers out there. If you’re not in the mood for a story-based video game, why not pour a pint, grab yourself some crisps and rage over losing the match because we all know you likely will (kidding). It’s a very simple game to explain, the developers have in essence taken the beloved sport of footbal and transported it inside, to be enjoyed from the comfort of your own home and might I add, they’ve done this very well. It has good and bad reviews but it’s a fun game to play with anyone you may be stuck in isolation with. Game on!

    It’s certainly an unsettling and uncertain time, though for all the gamers (like me) self-isolation might not be a bad thing. Delve into an incredible world of games that you’ll certainly fall in love with and if you’ve played them before, why not enjoy a bit of nostalgia.

    Don’t forget to let us know which game is your favourite directly below in the comments! We’d love to know your thoughts.

  • GTA 6 release date DELAYED: New Rockstar leak shines light on next project

    GTA 6 release date DELAYED: New Rockstar leak shines light on next project

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    GRAND Theft Auto fans may have to wait a little longer for the Rockstar sequel to be released.

    Grand Theft Auto fans might be facing an even longer wait for the reveal, as Rockstar seemingly focuses on a different project.

    Fans clamouring for GTA 6 release date news will be disappointed to hear that Rockstar is planning a PC launch for Red Dead Redemption 2.

    That’s according to alleged source code found within the Rockstar Social Club.

    Shared by Twitter user JakoMako51 (below), the source code references PC Accomplishments.

    Assuming the leak is genuine, this seems like conclusive proof that Red Dead 2 is coming to the PC at some point in the future.

    Perhaps when the PC version launches, we’ll finally hear more about GTA 6, which has been in the news a lot this week.

    It all started with a new leak that suggested a dual setting for the upcoming open-world action game.

    The leak, which emerged on Reddit, claimed that GTA 6 will be set in the 70s/80s and will feature just one playable protagonist.

    The next Grand Theft Auto game will allegedly take place in Vice City and Rio de Janeiro.

    It was also claimed that the Grand Theft Auto sequel would launch on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

    This ties in to a previous leak that suggested GTA 6 would have a 2020 release date.

    The same rumours suggest that Grand Theft Auto 6 would launch as a timed exclusive on Sony’s next-gen PS5 console.

    According to an anonymous post on Pastebin, Sony allegedly paid “big money” to get timed exclusivity for GTA 6.

    Reports have also suggested that GTA 6 won’t be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One “because of memory restrictions”.

    This is due to the game having one of the biggest and most detailed maps in the history of video games.

  • 10 Tips for Building Twitch Extensions

    10 Tips for Building Twitch Extensions

    Reading Time: 8 minutes

    A little introduction

    Twitch Extensions create new ways to bring Twitch streamers and viewers together, to create amazing content, and to connect games to a live broadcast. But like any new technology, it can feel overwhelming to start using it.

    I’m Breci, a member of the Twitch Developer community, I currently work as a full-stack developer, and I specialize in interactive experiences.

    In 2018, I started to experiment and see how they could be developed and what are the limits. Since then, I’ve published two Extensions, Live Requests and Quests; an open source boilerplate for newcomers; and an open source NPM package for Vue/Vuex developers.

    In this article, I will share what I’ve learned when making Twitch Extensions, how they are made, and how you can use Twitch tools to reduce hosting costs, improve scaling, and engage streamers and viewers in your work.

    If this is your first time working with Twitch Extensions, you should check out the Getting Started first and install the Developer Rig.

    Extensions are webpages

    If you look at the Getting Started page for Twitch Extensions, you will see this information: “Extensions are programmable, interactive overlays and panels, which help broadcasters interact with viewers.”

    It can be said differently, “Extensions are static webpages displayed on top of or entirely below the video.”

    With that in mind, you can easily create your first Extension using HTML/CSS/JS, like any other website. And, of course, you can use frameworks like React, Vue, Angular, etc. to build your Extensions.

    Please note that the pages need to be static webpages; you can’t use server-side rendering.

    You can find a minimal Twitch Extension here:

    Use the right Extensions types

    There are three types of Extensions: panel, video component, and video overlay.

    Each Extension type has certain advantages and limitations, so consider these as you think about what type of Extension you want to build.

    Panel

    • The panel Extension lives under the stream and can be popped out if the viewer wants to.
    • To see them, viewers have to scroll down.
    • They should mainly be used for informative content that requires little interaction or content totally separated from the stream.
    • Three can be active at the same time.

    Video component

    • The video component Extension lives on top of the stream and inside of an Extensions Sidebar on the channel page.
    • They can take all the interactive space on the video player, but you can take less space if you want, and they have a transparent black background.
    • These Extensions will be minimized when the viewers join the stream.
    • They should be used for specific use cases that bring complementary or interactive content.
    • Two can be active at the same time.

    Video overlay

    • The video overlay Extension lives on top of the stream; it covers the whole video player.
    • These Extensions will be directly visible when the viewer joins the stream.
    • They should be used for content that will go hand in hand with the broadcast like game integrations.
    • One can be active at a time.

    Choosing the right type impacts engagement. Moving my Extension Live Request from a panel to a video component doubled the engagement, because it was meant to be interactive and complementary to the stream.

    The JavaScript helper is your new best friend

    When building Twitch Extensions, you will need to use the JavaScript helper.

    It is a small library, provided by Twitch, that must be imported on your Extension.

    https://extension-files.twitch.tv/helper/v1/twitch-ext.min.js

    With it, you can access all the useful information from the current user and your Extension. You can also trigger functionality like asking the user to share their identity, follow a channel, and trigger Bits transaction. You can even receive messages from the Extension or react to changes in the stream, allowing you to adapt the content of your Extension appropriately.

    Store data with the Configuration Service

    Let’s talk about saving the data. For example, you want to display some messages that can be customized by the streamer.

    You could use a database for this, but you will have to set up an API and the database as well as manage scaling and the costs associated with it.

    Using the Twitch Configuration Service in my Extension Quests allowed me to remove all costs involved in the project and focus on the concept without having to worry about costs.

    The Configuration Service is a free service that allows developers to store data hosted by Twitch and access it directly from their Extension without the need for a backend.

    This service offers three segments where you can store data:

    • broadcaster: data is shared only on the channel of the broadcaster and can be set from the JavaScript helper by the broadcaster or from an API endpoint. Each channel has its own segment.
    • developer: data is shared only on the channel of the broadcaster and can only be set from an API endpoint. Each channel has its own segment.
    • global: data is shared with all the channels using the Extension and can only be set from an API endpoint. There is only one for all the channels of your Extension.

    You can store up to 5KB of data per segment.

    For global data, like maintenance status, or certain configurations, you should use the global segment.

    If you want to handle more data, you will need to have your own data storage with a backend in front of it to protect it.

    A broadcaster with a bit of experience in programming could change the content of his broadcaster segment easily. To set up things like exclusive features, you should use the developer segment.

    PubSub messages help with scaling

    You may be wondering: How can I start a poll when the broadcaster hits a button? Do I have to add a WebSocket connection for every user?

    You could… Or you can just use the Twitch Extension PubSub. It allows you to send messages to the users of your Extension without having to manage all the scaling of WebSocket or do massive polling from each client. Twitch already manages a PubSub system for you.

    With this system, you can send PubSub messages to two targets:

    • broadcast: to all the users of a channel.
    • global: to all the users of your Extension, but can only be sent from an Extension Backend Service (EBS), which is simply the backend of your application, and you are responsible for hosting it and creating it if you need one.

    As an example with this system, a broadcaster could press a button that triggers a PubSub message to all viewers and make text appear on the stream.

    Note: You can only send up to 5KB of data and one PubSub per second, per channel.

    Engage viewers with Bits

    Bits are a virtual good that viewers can use to celebrate and support streamers on Twitch. As a developer, you can enable your Extension so that viewers can use Bits for everything from getting on leaderboards to playing sounds or messages directly on stream, and even influencing gameplay.

    Each time a viewer uses Bits in your Extension is an opportunity to engage a stream by displaying visual feedback and showing viewers more ways that they can interact with the stream.

    You can listen to Bits transactions in two ways:

    Inside the Extension

    twitch.ext.bits.onTransactionComplete( transaction => {
    if ( transaction.initiator === ‘CURRENT_USER’){
    // do personalized feedback
    }
    else {
    // do generic feedback
    }
    }

    From your EBS, using Webhooks

    You can then send a PubSub message to your Extension or to a video source overlay.

    Sound Alerts PubSub alert example by Altoar

    Note: Bits transaction broadcast does not count in the Twitch Extension PubSub rate.

    Let Streamers choose the Bits value

    There is no “premade” way to allow streamers to set their own Bits value for a feature in the Extension.

    When using Bits in your Extension, you have to create Bits products. They are used to define the possible Bits transaction in your Extension. But, you can create several of them and use them to allow multiple values.

    For example, you can create:

    • value100: 100 Bits
    • value250: 250 Bits
    • value500: 500 Bits

    And the streamer can simply choose one of them. You could have 50 possible values or two; it is up to you.

    Live Requests Bits value options example by Breci

    You can call the Twitch API from the Extension

    Some you might need more information than what the JavaScript helper provides. Since your Extension is a webpage, you can call Twitch’s API directly from it.

    Do you want to deactivate your panel Extension when the stream is offline? Check it directly from the API on your Extension using the Streams endpoint with the channelId of the current channel.

    window.Twitch.ext.onAuthorized(auth => {
    const url = `https://api.twitch.tv/helix/streams/id=${auth.channelId}`;
    const fetchData = {
    method: “GET”,
    headers: {
    “Client-ID”: “YourExtensionClientIdHere”
    }
    };
    fetch(url,fetchData)
    .then(resp => resp.json()) // Transform the data into json
    .then(data => {
    if (data.data && data.data.length) {
    // Display extension
    } else {
    // Show offline message
    }
    });
    });

    If you have an EBS, make sure to always check server-side the validity of the data sent by your users.

    Help viewers notice your Extension

    Twitch Extensions are fairly new, so some viewers don’t yet know how to interact with them.

    For video overlay Extensions, you might want to engage viewers by showing them they can interact with something on the stream. The best time to do this is when viewers move the mouse on top of the video player, because it means the viewer might not be 100 percent focused on the content in the stream. This is a great opportunity to create a nice call to action and/or animations to engage and educate the viewer about the Extension.

    One way to do it is to use the arePlayerControlsVisible from the onContext callback

    twitch.ext.onContext( context =>{
    if (context.arePlayerControlsVisible) {
    // display information
    }
    else {
    // hide information
    }
    }
    Titatitutu playing Trackmania, showing an example of helping viewers notice an Extension

    Your Extension can — and should — be lazy

    Your Extension will not be the primary content of the stream; it will complement it. Viewers will first come for the streamer, then use your work.

    With that in mind, you don’t have to display your Extension as fast as possible like a regular website. There will be a bit of buffering before the live feed starts, the viewers will first focus on the content of the stream, then on your Extension. This gives you a lot of time to gather all the necessary data and display it nicely for the viewers.

    I recommend you check out this talk by Karl Patrick from TwitchCon 2018 Developer Day to learn more about how to set up design patterns for Twitch scale.

    Conclusion

    I hope my experiences and learnings building Twitch Extensions help you get started. Extensions are a new paradigm in live interactive content, and I hope to see many of you joining this fun journey!

  • GTA 6 release date UPDATE: Great news for PlayStaton and Xbox fans? Huge Rockstar rumours

    GTA 6 release date UPDATE: Great news for PlayStaton and Xbox fans? Huge Rockstar rumours

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

    GTA 6 rumours are coming in thick and fast, with PlayStation and Xbox fans potentially being given a major boost about Rockstar Games’ next title.

    GTA 6 release date news today includes what could be a big hint for PlayStation and Xbox fans about Rockstar Games’s next hit. GTA 6 has not officially been confirmed by Rockstar Games but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting excited about the next Grand Theft Auto game. And in recent weeks they’ve had plenty to go on with some eye-catching GTA 6 release date rumours emerging.

    The floodgates were opened after a shock rumour emerged claiming GTA 6 would have a release date in 2020 and be a timed launch exclusive for the PS5.

    According to an anonymous post on Pastebin Sony allegedly paid “big money” to get one month’s worth of exclusive PS5 rights for GTA 6.

    Another rumour later emerged on the same site which claimed GTA 6 would only be out for the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

    Allegedly GTA 6 won’t be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One “because of memory restrictions”.

    And a new GTA 6 rumour might have shed a light on why this could be the case.

    It had previously been claimed by alleged leakers that GTA 6 would be set in multiple cities – Liberty City and Vice City.

    However, a new rumour has claimed that GTA 6 could be even bigger than that – potentially the largest open-world Rockstar Games has ever created.

    It’s been claimed that GTA 6 will not only be set in Liberty City and Vice City but also Los Santos.

    That would be the locations for all the PS2 GTA games, with Liberty City also appearing in GTA 4 and Los Santos in GTA 5 after that.

    The rumours were sparked after a Rockstar Games employee posted a review on Glassdoor.

    The site lets current and former employees anonymously review companies, and these write-ups are independently verified before appearing online.

    In the section “advice to management” the anonymous poster left multiple comments with each one on a separate line.

    And the beginning letters of each of these sentences spells out GTA6LSVCLC.

    This could be hinting that GTA 6 will be set in Los Santos, Vice City and Liberty City.

    If that’s the case then GTA 6 will be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game ever, and likely the biggest open world Rockstar has ever made.

    Fans of the series would surely relish the chance to revisit maps that made them fall in love with the series.

    And having such a huge open world available to players would surely make GTA 6 a day one purchase for many Grand Theft Auto fans.

    The latest rumours were revealed in a post by Dexerto, who reported the Glassdoor review may also have left hints that a new Bully game is in the works.

    Both GTA 6 and Bully 2 are games that have long been rumoured to be in development at Rockstar Games.

  • PS5 – Welcome to the future of Gaming

    PS5 – Welcome to the future of Gaming

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

    The French site VR4Player has released the video of a new PlayStation 5 fan concept, which shows a particularly innovative design, certainly not in line with the tradition of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, but even in part recalls the lines of the first historic console Sony.

    Although curious, the final design of PlayStation 5 will certainly not come close to this concept, as well as that of the new DualShock 5 controller, perhaps a look too close to the past while there are those who are willing to bet that PS5 will stand out for a minimal look and not too flashy, similar to what is proposed with the current console of the Japanese house.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItwQoIPvb-w]

    This video is not an official Sony Interactive Entertainement ad. It was entirely created to illustrate an article on the VR4Player.fr website. All the elements which compose it are only an artist’s view and have nothing official.

    When will PlayStation 5 be released? According to analysts, PS5 will be released in 2020 at a price of $499 and Sony may be able to sell 21 million pieces in the first two years of market presence. Interesting hypotheses but for now it is only analytical data, to learn more we should wait for the official presentation of the console, in April Mark Cerny revealed the technical specifications of PS5 reiterating the desire to focus on 8K, Ray-Tracing and SSD support instead of the traditional hard disk.

    Sony will not participate in E3 in Los Angeles but it is not excluded that the company is planning a reveal in the coming months.

    PS5 Players Can Play with PS4 Players Using Backwards Compatibility, Sony Confirms

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    Cross-generation play was brought up during the company’s most recent investor relations question and answer session. When talking about backwards compatibility in general, vice president John Kodera was quick to add that cross-generation play will be important to the PlayStation community. Keeping existing players invested is clearly of high priority to Sony as it looks to introduce the PS5, supposedly next year.

    There has been a great deal of speculation about when Sony might actually launch the PS5, especially considering the fact that the PS4 Pro is less than three years old. But if the PS5 plays PS4 games natively, and PS5 owners can seamlessly play games online with PS4 owners, then the launch timing becomes somewhat trivial.

    Here’s a quote from newly-minted PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan about the importance of backwards compatibility when it comes to the next generation of consoles:

    Backwards compatibility, in a networked era, becomes something that is incredibly powerful. Because the gaming community is somewhat tribal in its nature, backwards compatibility gives us the opportunity to migrate that community from PlayStation 4 to next gen using the ability to play the PS4 games they have on their next generation console – groups of 10, 20, 50 gamers. So we see this, given the size of the community that we’ve been able to accumulate over all these years and hard work on PlayStation 4 as a really critical success factor for us. We think it’s incredibly important.

  • Mortal Kombat 11 Director Teases Fans Who Want Shaggy DLC

    Mortal Kombat 11 Director Teases Fans Who Want Shaggy DLC

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    Back in January, a petition to add Shaggy of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated to Mortal Kombat 11 surfaced online and quickly went viral. To date, it has nearly 400,000 signatures and despite being months old, is still getting new signatures every hour.

    As the petition gained momentum, series creative director Ed Boon chimed in with his response to it, which suggested that Shaggy would never, ever be added to the fighting game series. Of course, this didn’t stop the demand though. People kept asking for Shaggy to the point that NetherRealm Studios just had to come out and state that the Scooby Snack lovin’ character won’t be in the game. That said, there’s still a few brave and hopeful Shaggy stans out there clinging to the idea that NetherRealm could change its mind.

    That all said, Boon recently took to Twitter to ask Mortal Kombat 11 players if they would want to see the character in the game. The tweet appears to be nothing more than Boon being his waggish self, trolling Mortal Kombat fans, but for followers of the divine Shaggy, it’s a lifeline.

    Of course, there’s a 99.9 percent chance that Shaggy will never be a fighter in Mortal Kombat. But, if enough fans consistently ask for it, maybe we’ll get a reference or Easter egg that pays homage to the great mystery solver.

    As you will know, the game’s DLC roster has already leaked, and unfortunately, there’s no Shaggy to be seen, but there are some interesting additions, such as Joker and the Terminator.

    Mortal Kombat 11 is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

  • GTA 6: 6 Leaked Details You Need To Know

    GTA 6: 6 Leaked Details You Need To Know

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

    In a post that’s since been deleted on Pastebin, one user dished some details on Rockstar’s much-anticipated GTA 6. It’d be remiss of anyone to claim these are 100% authentic (Rockstar, as per usual, are saying nothing), and so they must be taken with a pinch of salt – but that post deletion is usually a smoking gun in the games industry, if nothing else.

    Regardless, anything GTA-related is always going to turn heads and get people talking.

    Various sites like Dexerto have taken up the mantle and managed to copy the deleted post before it disappeared. That’s where the following rumours and leaks in this article come from. They deal with GTA’s story, the size of the map, an approximate timescale for release, what the future holds for GTA Online and more.

    If rumours are to be believed, this could be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game yet. Plus, the familiar tale of rags-to-riches gangster could be about to follow Red Dead Redemption 2’s lead and present a more serious tone. WhatCulture Gaming’s own think the gritty toils of Arthur Morgan and company will have a big impact on how Rockstar tell their tale.

    Right, enough stalling. Here’s what you came for. Those juicy, juicy leaks…

    6. It Won’t Be Released On Current-Gen Hardware

    If you want to get hands-on with Rockstar’s next helping of GTA, then you’ll need to invest in some new hardware. According to Pastebin’s post, GTA 6 is just too big for the PS4 or Xbox One, but if most in the gaming world were being honest with themselves, nobody was expecting Rockstar to release the next GTA on current systems anyway.

    This does mean that, aside from the touched-up GTA 5 release, there hasn’t been a Grand Theft Auto game on current-gen. Not an exclusive one, at least.

    The Pastebin user’s exact wording was, “This game cant come out for PS4 because of memory restrictions”. There’s more on why later, but for now just brace yourself to drop some cash on the next series of consoles released by Sony and Microsoft. The PS5 (or whatever Sony end up calling it) is expected somewhere between 2020-2022, with some touting 2020 as being the most likely launch date.

    That’d mean GTA 6 is coming out two years after Red Dead 2’s release in late-2018. That almost fits the prior release gap between the first Red Dead (2010) and GTA 5 (2013).

    5. Liberty City And Vice City Are The Main Maps

    As insane as it sounds, the post noted that your character will begin in Liberty City before “eventually” making their way to Vice City. This means that all the years of speculation were true, and Rockstar are ready to once again bring their pastel-soaked vision of Miami back to life.

    For the love of Tommy Vercetti, this is good news. If it’s true.

    If it is, then it seems we’ll all be galavanting between major cities in GTA 6. There’s no word on whether or not we’d be able to return to Liberty after fleeing, or if there will be some sort of fast travel mechanic between locations, but it makes sense to believe there would be. After all, it’d be a hellish tease if Rockstar presented inter-state storytelling without back-and-forth travel being available.

    Should this rumour ring true and GTA 6 will have more than one major location from past titles, then longtime fans will have to get their grins surgically removed.

    4. You’re In The Empire Business

    “In the title, which will make you a kind of a drug lord, you will start as a small time guy in Liberty City doing odd chores and small-time thefts then eventually work your way to Vice City where you will join a famous gang. You will be tasked to look after a business in Liberty City until you are brought back to Vice City and soon become the drug lord”.

    This somewhat sounds like standard GTA, right?

    Again, take this with a pinch of salt, because it’s not exactly hard for someone to whip up a plot synopsis that’s in-keeping with Rockstar’s tried-and-tested story formula. Small-time gangster works his way up the crime ladder until he’s eventually on top. It’s been done before, many, many times.

    A familiar tale isn’t out of the question. Almost every Rockstar epic has charted a rise from squalor to splendour, with a few twists and turns thrown in to keep things interesting, and that plot summary could well be bare bones.

    If Rockstar flesh it out, then we’re sure it’ll end up being an absorbing narrative.

    The word “guy” does hint that the main protagonist is male however. That may grab the attention of anyone wishing Rockstar would introduce a fully-fleshed playable female character and push the series into new waters.

    3. San Andreas Could Be There Too?

    Dexerto noted in their write up of the Pastebin leak that Rockstar’s history with multiple locations precedes them.

    Back in 2004’s San Andreas (which, lest anyone forget, was on the creaky and archaic by comparison to modern systems) PS2, players were allowed to travel between Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas. Those cities were based on real places – namely LA, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

    This is something Rockstar may be eager to try again on a larger scale.

    If Liberty City and Vice are included, then it makes some logical sense to predict that San Andreas will be too. Having all three beloved GTA locations in the same gamesounds delicious; you can practically envision fans salivating over the thought of going from Liberty’s skyscraper-heaven to Vice’s hedonistic beaches and then bouncing around on San Andreas’ hilly roads.

    The Pastebin post leak does talk about a multi-location map, and that’d surely be bigger than two major cities. If this is going to be the largest GTA game of all time, which is probably will be, then we’d wager on at least one more locale to beef it out.

    2. There’s A Lot Of Countryside To Explore

    Multiple cities means many, many linking roads and mountainous countryside to tie everything together and make traversing from one location to another seamless and enjoyable for players.

    “…along with a vast stretch of highways and Blaine County-like countrysides in the middle of it all. There will also be some kind of timed era between the missions with flashbacks”.

    That’s a direct quote from the Pastebin leak. Whilst we’re not quite sure what’s meant by, “timed era between the missions with flashbacks” (that could be a typo for all we know), the first part of the paragraph is the most interesting anyway. It claims GTA 6 will have tons and tons of link roads and map to explore between the built-up locations in-game.

    The post also claimed that “different shops in different areas” would sell unique items (similar to RDR2’s stores) and that ‘Stranger’ missions would make a comeback. On the latter, that was expected. ‘Strangers & Freaks’ (as they were once known) have become a popular means of providing side missions in Rockstar’s worlds.

    1. Rockstar Has “Big Plans” For GTA 6 Online

    GTA Online makes Rockstar wads of cash, and the steady stream of updates on the service has helped prolong 5’s appeal almost six years after the game was first released. That’s astonishing business, and even those who have soured on Online by now must admit that. Given Online’s importance to Rockstar then, it’s no surprise to hear that they’ve got “big plans”.

    Those plans include “major content like newer towns” that’ll be drip-fed post-release. Maybe this is where San Andreas will come into things. If it’s not in the main game proper, then it could be implemented as DLC for the popular Online mode that’ll keep hardcore players invested. Or, these “newer towns” could be fresh locations entirely.

    According to the Pastebin leak, Rockstar are also keen on “working closely with Microsoft and Sony on cloud gaming which will help them enable Online to be a continuous process”. This is exciting for anyone who wants an enhanced experience that’s ‘always on’.

    Fingers crossed they don’t focus too much on Online though. GTA’s single-player campaign comes first.

  • GTA 6 : Latest Rockstar news and the FOUR platforms it needs to launch on

    GTA 6 : Latest Rockstar news and the FOUR platforms it needs to launch on

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

    The GTA 6 release date looks as far away as ever but just how long will fans be waiting for the big announcement from Rockstar Games?

    To put it mildly, GTA 5 is going to be a massive game when it is finally announced by Rockstar Games. But fans still don’t know how long they might be waiting to play the new title in the popular series.

    The good news is we’re almost 100% guaranteed to see GTA 6 announced in the future. The bad news is that we don’t know when that will happen, as the usual five-year cycle between Grand Theft Auto games has been broken.

    Rockstar released RDR2 in 2018, but the overwhelming success of GTA Online seems to have taken the studio a little off-guard. Red Dead 2 was delayed significantly by Rockstar, meaning its release may have been affected by how well GTA Online was performing.

    Rockstar said at the time that the game required further polish, but some analysts believe it also has something to do with expanding the game’s online mode.

    But from the early showing of Red Dead Online, it doesn’t appear it will be cannibalising GTA Online like first thought.

    Having a direct competitor with plenty of free content already has left many Red Dead Online fans wanting to more.

    It’s already been reported that the number of people playing RDR2 multiplayer has dropped.

    So could Rockstar Games look to ramp up their plans for GTA 6 to make way for their next massive online venture? And what platforms will it arrive on?

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCZgVGFwKo0]

    It’s probably too early to say if Rockstar will speed things up, considering as Red Dead Online is still in beta and could very well recover handsomely in the months to come.

    And the platforms it needs to arrive on should follow closely with how the release date pans out for the development. If GTA 6 can be launched in 2020, then there will be a number to choose from.

    This list would include PS5, Xbox Two, PC and Google Stadia as the main core. However, given how many current gen consoles have sold, the PS4 and Xbox One would be good shouts too.

    However, since many believe that GTA 6 won’t arrive until at least 2021, we can probably forget about the current gaming machines.

    A recent recruitment drive at various Rockstar studios suggests that something big is in the works.

    In other Rockstar-related news, new jobs listings from the studio confirm its been hiring people for a big next-generation project.

    Rockstar India was looking for a Senior Environment Artist who could help build “next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects”.

    The listing reads: “Join our team to create next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects! Strong modelling and texturing skills are not enough. Candidates must be able to create immersive, living, and fully-realised environments.

    “As a Senior Environment Artist working at Rockstar India, you will be responsible for creating exciting and believable artwork, creating and texturing environment assets for the biggest and best open world environments in the industry.”

    This happened earlier in 2019 and certainly sounds like something for the PS5 and next Xbox console.

    New hardware from Sony and Microsoft are expected to be released in 2020, meaning that we probably won’t see anything from Rockstar until they are established.

    That would make a new Grand Theft Auto game launching in 2021, following an eight-year development cycle, seem plausible.

    There’s also good reason to believe that GTA 6 won’t be Rockstar’s next big gaming project.

    Recent rumours suggest that Rockstar is planning to launch Bully 2 next, followed by whatever next-gen project they have in the works.

    Games industry analyst Michael Pachter predicted a new title would launch in 2020, telling Games Industry: “I think we’ll hear about a new BioShock game and a new title from Rockstar, both for 2020.”

    “It would be cheating to say that the company will announce Borderlands since it will probably happen before this article is published.”

    An upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for next-gen consoles and PC is also expected, although nothing has been confirmed yet from the studio.

  • Anthem update April 23: 1.1.0 patch notes news for PS4 and Xbox One

    Anthem update April 23: 1.1.0 patch notes news for PS4 and Xbox One

    Reading Time: 9 minutes

    A NEW Anthem update is being released tomorrow, April 23, with early patch notes revealing what to expect on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

    UPDATE ONE: Official patch notes have been released today by BioWare, covering all the changes made in Anthem Update 1.1.0.

    The most noticeable tweaks include the release of the new Sunken Cell Stronghold, which is available to everyone who has completed the game.

    You can find the full patch notes released by BioWare listed at the bottom of this article.

    ORIGINAL: Anthem’s global community manager Andrew Johnson has confirmed that the game’s next update is arriving on April 23.

    And it sounds like there’s going to be plenty of patch notes to go with it on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

    According to Johnson, Anthem’s latest Stronghold will be launched alongside various other gameplay improvements and bugfixes.

    Strongholds are four-player adventures that you unlock throughout the game by completing the story.

    Once they become available to you, you’ll need to find three other players to tackle each one. If you can’t round up three friends to join you, players can use the Anthem matchmaking option and enter a squad.

    The Sunken Stronghold is expected to be the one being launched tomorrow, having had the livestream reveal delayed earlier this month.

    The bad news is that the game will have to go offline for several hours for maintenance.

    BioWare has confirmed that downtime will last around five hours, but that the schedule is also subject to change.

    From what has been shared by Johnson so far, it appears that a livestream covering all the changes will be hosted after the update goes live on all platforms.

    Here’s more from the Anthem Community Manager, who told fans on Twitter today: “Our next game update (1.1.0) will be released tomorrow with the new Stronghold and various other game improvements and fixes.

    “We will detail all of that out in our patch notes tomorrow, as well as give an update on the 90-Day calendar.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF5Q9_mYl7o]

    “You’ll need to download the client update after the servers come back online following the scheduled maintenance. Be sure to follow @EAHelp for updates on that.

    “If you’re doing the math, this means you’ll actually have a chance to try out the update before our livestream, which I believe is a first!

    “I feel like I should reiterate that times are always subject to change with our livestreams, but that’s what we’re shooting for.”

    From what has been shared today, gamers in the UK will see Anthem go offline at around 1pm

    “We’ll be doing some maintenance on Anthem tomorrow, April 23, from 12 – 5 p.m. UTC (7 a.m. – 12 p.m. CT). We’ll let you know here if anything changes,” An EA help message explains.

    Official patch notes for tomorrow’s Anthem update are expected to be shared by the dev team and include all the major changes being made to the game.

    GTA 6 release date update – Great news for fans about Rockstar Games next hit

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

    GTA 6 release date news today includes a big update about the next hit title from Rockstar Games.

    GTA 6 release date may still be awhile away, but fans of the Rockstar Games series have been delivered an encouraging update ahead of it. GTA 6 rumours have been coming in thick and fast with plenty of claims swirling about the highly anticipated PlayStation and Xbox game.

    Recently it was claimed that GTA 6 could have a release date in 2020 and that it would be a PS5 exclusive for one month. If the shock claims are true then it would give Sony a big advantage at the start of the next console wars.

    It’s unclear whether GTA 6 will be solely for next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Two, or whether it will be cross-gen with PS4 and Xbox One.

    And ahead of the GTA 6 release date big news about the highly anticipated title could have leaked again.

    As revealed in a post by PCGamesN, a member of the gaming industry may have let slip that work on GTA 6 is currently underway.

    A 3D artist that worked for Rockstar Games’ India studio briefly included GTA 6 on their online CV.

    Bibin Michael claimed that he had created concept vehicles for GTA 5 and GTA 6, which hasn’t officially been announced yet.

    Michael is credited in the thank you page for Red Dead Redemption 2 so he has worked at Rockstar Games.

    Soon after the GTA 6 reference was spotted by members of GTA forums it was removed from Michael’s CV.

    It remains to be seen if this specific leak turns out to be legit, with previous ones turning out be pranks.

    The latest GTA 6 rumours come hot on the heels of a previous alleged leak which claims the new Grand Theft Auto would be out next year.

    A post on Pastebin was recently discovered from someone claiming to be a third-party dev in Europe that knows about the PS5.

    According to the leak, GTA 6 will have a release date of holiday 2020 – and it’s rumoured that it will be a timed PS5 exclusive.

    Sony allegedly paid “big money” to have GTA 6 as a PS5 exclusive for one month.

    The rumour also claims that GTA 6 would boast two large cities for players to explore – Miami and Liberty City.

    This ties into a GTA 6 rumour that emerged last year which claimed GTA 6 would see a return to Vice City.

    5 Mental Health Tips for Online Content Creators
    By Ross Kerr, The National Alliance on Mental Illness

    Creating content and connecting with an online audience presents unique challenges. The level of consistency and engagement required to maintain your brand and following can be demanding. It can also be difficult to navigate between personal and work life when they are so often mixed. Aspects of the work that usually bring personal fulfillment may at times feel like a stressful, overwhelming grind.

    If you feel the stress you’re facing is negatively affecting you, there are ways you can improve your mental health.

    Connect with Social Supports

    Life doesn’t have to be single-player — and it shouldn’t be. Connection is such an important aspect of mental health. Reaching out to others who have shared experiences can help build a network of support and fight loneliness. Another approach is seeking out a mentor who understands the unique challenges of what you do. This person can be a listening ear when times are hard. They can help you overcome difficult situations and feel more equipped for the challenges ahead.

    Establish Set Coping Methods

    There may be days when your internet connection slows down to a halt or a piece of content you just made accidentally gets deleted. Situations like this can make anyone feel frustrated. It’s important to consider your coping skills for when things don’t go as planned. Coping skills such as deep breathing, reading or exercise can help you release stress and gain perspective on these tough moments.

    Set Your Office Hours

    Content creation often means working long hours. There’s no one telling you to go home, especially since you are most likely already at home. Setting definitive work hours can help you create a structure that allows for time to unplug, which can significantly reduce stress. It can also help you to feel more refreshed during your set work hours. And as a bonus, having a regular schedule where your audience can expect you to livestream or post content can also contribute towards building an engaged community.

    Prioritize a Hobby

    For many working in this space, their hobby has turned into a career. But it’s important to have a positive outlet that doesn’t have the pressure of a career, something that is just for fun and just for you. Pursuing new hobbies or making time for old ones can provide a much-needed distraction. Whether it’s playing “Magic: The Gathering” at the local comic shop or going rock climbing, the change of focus can help take your mind off work-related stress.

    Take A Break

    If you find yourself pushing through every day and feeling less inspired or overwhelmed: take a break. Whether it’s 30 minutes to get a breather or a week-long vacation, breaks are essential. Work can be hard, but it shouldn’t be painful. While there can be pressure to stay connected in order to build or maintain a following, it’s not as important as your mental health, and you need to set your own limits. Also, taking a step back gives you the opportunity to evaluate what you can change to feel better long-term.

    Keep in mind that experiencing these challenges is not a failure. You should never blame yourself for having concerns about your mental health. And whether these challenges are a part of your full-time job or a side gig after work, you are not facing them alone.

    The National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

    Some New Leaks Show GTA 6 and PS5 Coming out in 2020 and the Internet is Never Wrong, Right?

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    Anybody can post a bunch of rumored PS5 specs, or anything else, on Pastebin. That’s the point of Pastebin. But these days, when morsels of truth can be hidden in any quantity of internet bullshit, we at GamesRadar+ feel obligated to present you the details along with a few complimentary barrels of industrial grade salt. Seriously, lay down enough salt to melt a long stretch of icy highway before you read on – but do read on, because it’s always fun to get another perspective on what PS5 could maybe, maybe be.

    The original Pastebin file, which came from a European game developer that works on a PS5 launch game was first created in December. It’s been on the internet ever since then but now has appeared again to our attention. It’s about the time when PS5 would be announced and when it might actually be here. There are also some possible specs for the hardware and some games that could meet the light of the day.

    According to the site, we’ ll get a sneak peek of PS5 in June this year, however, not at E3. The console might arrive in November 2020, and for the price of $499. That’s at $100 more than PS4’s launch price. It will come with backward compatibility and a 7nm Ryzen 8 core. Also, a 16-thread processor with 14 teraflops. It’s been said that this one will show the real deal of 4K gaming, and it will have a new wireless iteration of PS VR.

    The controller will come with some new updates, too, with a camera inside for virtual reality.

  • Fortnite v8.30 Update Patch Notes Features a Rather Familiar Respawn Mechanic

    Fortnite v8.30 Update Patch Notes Features a Rather Familiar Respawn Mechanic

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    The patch notes for the Fortnite v8.30 update have just been released on the Epic Games website, revealing the usual cavalcade of changes and gameplay tweaks.

    It’s a particularly busy week for Battle Royale, however, which, alongside yet another LTM, receives a brand-new and somewhat familiar respawn mechanic.

    Fortnite v8.30 Update Patch Notes – Battle Royale

    Known as the “Reboot Van”, the mechanic in question extends the period available to those playing in Duos or Squads during which they can revive their fallen teammates. This is done by collecting the downed player’s Reboot Card and delivering it to any nearby Reboot Van, something which should sound pretty familiar to anyone who’s played Apex Legends.

    To be fair to Fortnite, Reboot Cards only hang around for 90 seconds, which is slightly shorter than the Apex. Additionally, revived players will also spawn with a common pistol, some ammo, and 100 units of wood in their possession, giving them a bit of a leg up.

    Battle Royale’s new LTM, meanwhile, is called Fly Explosives and promises to combine the “explosive fun of the High Explosives LTM with the Jetpack”.

    Fly Explosives is joined by the loot-heavy Buccaneer’s Bounty Event from the 10-15th April, and the prestigious Fortnite World Cup Online Open – Week 1 of which commences this very weekend and is open to anyone who has reached Champion Level in the Arena.

    Fortnite v8.30 Update Patch Notes – Creative

    A similarly useful new mechanic arrives in Fortnite Creative in the form of the MultiSelect Tool. It does exactly what it says on the tin, really: i.e. let players select multiple assets at the same time, making the process of re-organising any existing creations that that much easier.

    Creative also receives a number of new military-style buildings in the V8.30 update, along with a new Tropical and Rivers Edge island, the aforementioned Jetpack, sundry other consumables, and a Capture Area Device.

    The last of which having been designed to facilitate Capture the Flag-style games.

    Fortnite v8.30 Update Patch Notes – Save the World

    As far as Save the World is concerned, it’s pretty much business as usual.

    First and foremost, there’s a brand-new hero in town who goes by the name of Bombsquad Kyle. A heavily-armoured, legendary constructor perfectly suited for dealing with hordes of enemies.

    Accompanying him is the Lost in Transit Beta Storm, the object of which is to locate and rescue five beleaguered trucks within a 15-minute time limit. And the Double Boiler Steampunk Shotgun.

    While another notable change sees Eliminate and Collect included in the standard mission rotation.

    Anyone looking for a more comprehensive breakdown of this week’s patch would, as with the previous 36,000, be well advised to head over to the game’s official website.

  • The Floor is Lava is a perfect mode for Fortnite

    The Floor is Lava is a perfect mode for Fortnite

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    For the better part of a year, Fortnite fans asked for a mini game where the ground was lava and all you could do was build.

    Now, in patch v8.20, Epic has finally given fans what want in the form of a limited-time mode.

    The Floor is Lava mode centers around the island’s new volcano, which has started overflow onto the map. Like any other Fortnite match, you land, grab some loot — drops favor mobility tools like launch pads and glider redeploy — and fight you fellow players. Then the lava starts to rise. As the lower areas get consumed, the game turns into a chaotic scramble to reach high ground.

    In the matches I played, players raced each other up the side of mountains, used port-a-rifts to get ahead, and even threw impulse grenades in desperate hope of throwing their opponent into the lava below. Players with more foresight sat at the top of the mountains, or in custom-built towers. From these vantage points, savvy players fired down to destroy other people’s ramps. It’s an absolute mess, and a joy to play.

    The mode generates wood, brick, and metal every few seconds for players throughout the match — that’s a good thing, because many mat sources get covered early in the game. This way, players can focus on building throughout the mode.

    When the lava covers the map’s mountains (or the volcano itself), players have to start building on the surface of the lava to survive. This is where the mode gets ridiculous. Every player that’s left tries to stay alive, in small, precarious buildings that keep them safe from enemies and the rising lava. At this point, it doesn’t matter if your bullets hit your opponents themselves or their builds — the goal is to dunk people into the lava one way or another. Shooting floors is just as effective as shooting people.

    Fortnite’s limited time modes have always been places for Epic to experiment with new mechanics that push players to think about Fortnite differently. The Floor is Lava is no different. Better yet, the Floor is Lava reframes Fortnite while remaining silly — which is exactly what Fortnite is about.

  • ‘Limited Time’ Battlefield 5 Firestorm Duos Mode Coming Next Month

    ‘Limited Time’ Battlefield 5 Firestorm Duos Mode Coming Next Month

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

    The long-awaited Battlefield 5 Firestorm battle royale mode is now available to play, letting fans experience battle royale with Battlefield’s trademark destructible environments and gunplay.

    At present, the game has two different ways to play; solo, or in a 4-person squad. DICE has said that a Battlefield 5 Firestorm Duos mode is coming in April. However, it will only be available for a limited time.

    Why Battlefield 5 Firestorm Duos Mode is a Limited Time Release
    Fans might well balk at this news. Why would DICE only make the Battlefield 5 Firestorm Duos mode available for a limited time? The answer is that DICE is very likely to be repeating the same model which they recently used twice during Lightning Strikes. During that second Tides of War chapter, DICE made two new game modes available; Squad Conquest and Rush. Both of these modes were only available for two weeks’ time. According to DICE, the reason why the studio only made them available briefly wasn’t because they never planned to bring them back. Rather, it was because the studio wasn’t certain how popular they would be; they wanted to gauge the community’s reaction before committing to making them a permanent feature.

    Indeed, Squad Conquest was very popular, and DICE actually extended the time it was available. In all likelihood, that mode, and quite possibly Rush, will return. The studio is planning to do the same thing with several new mode variants during Trial by Fire. It also seems like they plan to adopt a similar approach for the upcoming Duos mode. By the time Duos becomes available, players will have had ample time to experience the Solo and Squad versions. As such, they should be in a good position to judge Duos mode in comparison.

    If Duos mode proves popular, then no doubt DICE will implement it as a permanent feature. However, it’s also possible that players feel that the Solo and Squad modes provide the experience they want without needing to shift over to Duos. If that proves to be the case, it wouldn’t be great for DICE if they invested in making the mode (and the server space it would require) permanently available. Hopefully, players do enjoy Duos. If that’s the case, players may well get to see it become a permanent part of Battlefield 5 Firestorm.

  • A Twitch Integration Lets the Viewers Call the Shots

    A Twitch Integration Lets the Viewers Call the Shots

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

    Q&A with Fatshark Games and Warwitch

    With tons of enemies attacking you at all times, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a hectic game. It’s hard for Twitch broadcasters to read their Chat or interact directly with their viewers. That’s why the game developer Fatshark decided to include an innovative Twitch integration that allows viewers to change the outcome of the game for the broadcaster. Every 30, 60, or 90 seconds Chat can vote on what happens in the game. The integration makes it easier for the broadcaster to play and comment on the screen.

    We caught up with Fatshark and Warwitch, a Twitch creator that often streams Vermintide 2, to get the behind-the-scenes lowdown on why the integration is so cool and the technology behind it.

    Warwitch shows the power of Twitch integration.

    Q&A with Gunnar Johannson, PR Manager at Fatshark

    Q: Can you tell me more about Fatshark and Vermintide 2?

    Fatshark has been around for 12 years with the first title Lead and Gold debuting in 2010. It’s a tightly knit team of over 90 experienced and skilled employees, who do regular updates for Vermintide 2 and are always on the look-out for new and exciting projects.

    Vermintide 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Vermintide. It’s a fierce first-person, co-op slaughter-fest, featuring visceral and ground-breaking melee action set in the apocalyptic End Times of the war-ravaged Warhammer Fantasy Battles world. The game has sold over two million units and has about 397 million minutes watched on Twitch. It was also voted the co-op game of the year by PC Gamer — and is on the cover this month for the second time. Kotaku called it the “The Best Four-Player Co-op Since Left 4 Dead.”

    Today also happens to be the first anniversary of the game. You can play for free on Steam until tomorrow!

    Q: Why are you excited about this Twitch integration?

    A: The integration is a really great way to get the viewers engaged in the stream as well as in the game. It lets a massive amount of people play together, even though only four are playing the actual game. The audience becomes the game directors, and for the players, it’s a bit like improv theatre. The viewers get their voice out there via the voting, and suddenly the players get a Chaos Warrior to fend off.

    Q: Why did you, as a company, decide to invest in this integration instead of something else?

    A: We have been talking with Twitch about possibilities since they first told us about the integration, and this was a long time before the game was even announced. We had it on our list of things we wanted to include at release or shortly after. About a month before release we had a meeting where we decided between what would be in the game on day one, and what would come within a few weeks after release. With the huge — H-U-G-E — success of the beta with streamers, it was an easy decision to include the integration at launch, because it would give the streamers more options to interact with their viewers, but also show that we appreciate what they do.

    It’s also fair to say that our Twitch integration was a pivotal part of the success we had on Twitch when we released the game, and Twitch is an integral part of reaching out to gamers.

    Q: What are you planning to do next?

    A: The integration is played daily, and we get positive feedback from so many streamers when we visit any event, etc. We are looking into what we can add, and what would be appreciated by both streamers and viewers.

    Q&A with Victor Magnuson, Game Designer and Producer at Fatshark

    Q: Can you briefly describe your development process? Including how you came up with the idea, how long it took, what you did to test or troubleshoot, etc.

    A: During the development of Warhammer: The End Times — Vermintide we realised that the system we use to populate the world (the Ai Director) would be pretty well suited for a integration of this type. The director already took into account how the players were doing and acted accordingly. For instance, if the players took a beating, it would lay off them for a while and if a player left the group, it would send an Assassin to kill that player. We realised that we could hand some of this power over to the streaming audience and let them be a part of the streaming experience in a very direct way. So when we started development of the sequel, a strong Twitch integration felt like an obvious choice. It was also during this time that streaming as a part of the general gaming community really took off.

    Q: Describe the technology behind this integration?

    A: It is quite simple actually. We ask the streamer to connect with their Twitch account name in the the game, we then send a request to “https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/users?login=“ .. <twitch_user_name> to collect their data. If we get a positive response we check their user_id with a https request to “https://api.twitch.tv/kraken/streams/“ .. <user_id> to see if they have an active stream going. We then use the channel name for the stream to connect to “irc.chat.twitch.tv” and join their channel. This allows us to constantly parse their Chat and use that to look for answers to the queries that we present on screen. We also make sure that the same user cannot vote multiple times.

    Q: What learnings or best practices would you share about developing integrations with Twitch?

    A: Keep it as simple as possible but make sure that whatever the audience is doing in the game is very noticeable; you want the viewers to feel like they are impacting what is going on in the game and easily recognise that what is happening is due to their involvement. Another thing is that the audience will most likely either try to always help the streamer or always make the life difficult for the streamer, so when you have multiple options for the viewers to choose from, try to make them balanced, otherwise the results tend to become very similar. For example, if the options are opposites (a good and a bad choice) dependent on the relationship between the streamer and their Chat, the result will always be the bad or the good choice.

    Warwitch is saved by his viewers thanks to Twitch integration.

    Q&A with Warwitch, Twitch Creator

    Q: Can you tell us about yourself and your Twitch Channel?

    A: My name is Warwitch from WarwitchTV and I’ve been a Twitch Partner for nearly five amazing years. I play a variety of exciting games, Vermintide 2 being one of my favorites, and also my first experience with Twitch integration.

    Q: Please describe (briefly) your experience with Twitch integration.

    A: I had actually never heard about integration until the release of Vermintide 2. I was naturally excited and interested, so I tried the feature out as soon as I was able. I immediately loved the fact that my viewers were able to shape events in the game directly. It’s fun to watch as they laugh and chuckle when their votes have a lasting impact on what happens.

    Q: What benefits does the integration give you as a streamer? How does it enhance the viewer experience?

    A: When my viewers are integrated into the game, I find it improves every element of my stream. I always try to make my viewers feel that they are a real part of the show (not just spectators), and integration really helps to make that happen. One of the coolest things I’ve seen about Twitch integration is how it empowers lurkers who may not otherwise have much to say to get involved in the stream. That’s very important to me. I try to interact with as many of my viewers as I can, and with Twitch integration that becomes even easier.

    Q: How did you find out about the integration?

    A: Vermintide 2 was the first time I had actually ever heard of integration in streams. When the devs announced that viewers would be able to have a hand in the events of a game I was playing I was thrilled. It’s been one of my favorite features to use during my live streams since.

    Q: Any ideas for how it could be improved?

    A: More options to vote on is always a good idea. More ways the viewer can impact and change the flow of the game. People also love to see their own names “up in lights,” so to speak. I’ve seen some integrated games that even copy the names of viewers who voted and place them in game as a boss or enemy to face. That’s a very fun experience for a viewer!

    Q: Would you encourage other streamers to use Twitch integrations or Extensions? If so, why?

    A: Absolutely! It’s a super fun way to get to know your community better and let them either help (or destroy) you. Either way, it’s a win. Twitch integration is an incredible way to bond with your community and just a whole lot of fun!
