When is Battlefield 5 released? How to pre-order?

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

BATTLEFIELD 5 has been billed as the most intense, immersive and innovative Battlefield game yet. So when is Battlefield 5 released and how can you pre-order it?

Battlefield 5 sees the iconic series return to its roots with a dramatic portrayal of World War 2.

Gamers play a character in a small squad of players that who must cooperate and coordinate together to achieve in-game goals.

Developers EA DICE have expressed their determination to tell new stories from a period that has been extensively covered.

EA DICE has reverted to its War Stories storytelling method which debuted in the most recent title Battlefield 1.

    When is Battlefield 5 released?

The game’s release has been delayed by one month, meaning it will now launch on Xbox One,  PS4 and PC on November 20.

The developers explained the decision was made to provide Battlefield 5 with “final adjustments to the core gameplay” and to ensure the in-play experience optimised prior to release.

EA and Origin Access trials will also be affected by this delay.

The game can be pre-ordered from EA’s battlefield 5 site.

  • Turn Your PS4’s Thumbstick Controller into a Racing Wheel With This Clever 3D-Printed Upgrade

Turn Your PS4’s Thumbstick Controller into a Racing Wheel With This Clever 3D-Printed Upgrade

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Mastering a racing game is a lot easier with your hands on a steering wheel instead of a tiny thumbstick, but after shelling out hundreds of dollars on a console and $60 on a game, do you really want to cough up another c-note for a racing wheel? If you’ve got access to a 3D printer, you could make this cheap rack and pinion mechanism instead and add a tiny thumb-steered wheel to your controller.

This brilliant, goofy little add-on was created by Thingiverse contributor Pixel2, who shared all the requisite source files as a free download for anyone who wants to print their own.

Is it the perfect alternative to a full-size racing wheel? No. It works with PS4 and Xbox One hardware, you’ll probably want to slip some felt in behind the gearing mechanism so the plastic doesn’t scratch up your controller, and it blocks the buttons that you’d normally use for switching gears when driving in manual mode. But it’s a cheap, unusual way to try to improve your simulated driving experience—adding an option that may feel less clumsy than thumbsticks to some, so you can shave a few precious seconds off your lap times.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 is using ‘fake’ HDR, says Digital Foundry

Red Dead Redemption 2 is using ‘fake’ HDR, says Digital Foundry

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

If Red Dead Redemption 2‘s HDR settings don’t look quite right, that’s because they’re not, according to a Eurogamer Digital Foundry analysis. They claim that even when your console triggers HDR mode on a compatible TV, RDR2 still sends a Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) image, which may make things look strange if your TV is optimised for High Dynamic Range (HDR).

The game itself suggests a setting of 100 nits on LCD screens or 300 nits on an OLED using HDR. I’m using an OLED and found the latter very dim, but the recommended setting too bright, so compromised in the middle.

These recommendations don’t make sense, as OLED screens are normally brighter than LCD displays. The answer is that ‘HDR calibration’ isn’t calibrating HDR at all. Pure white pixels become the brightest image in SDR, so what it’s actually doing is making anything white, like the light from the sun, the brightest element on the screen.

As the Xbox One X or PS4 Pro aren’t delivering any HDR metadata to your TV, some OLED screens may become too dim because they’re waiting for more luminous pixels that never arrive, hence Rockstar’s suggestion to increase the setting to 300 nits on an OLED screen, which just makes everything brighter. All this really affects is luminance, or brightness, as an SDR image can’t offer the same colour or contrast as true HDR.

The report explains that most games with true HDR offer up to 4000 nits of luminance, more than most screens are designed to show, then remove and compress data to deliver an image that works with your TV. Red Dead Redemption 2 is doing this backwards, by starting with an SDR 8-bit image and expanding it to fill the 10-bit HDR range.

Ultimately, increasing the nits setting to something that looks good on your TV will give you something akin to a SDR image. That may still be better than turning it off, as disabling HDR gives you a dim SDR image without the same controls to increase brightness.

Police: Two men arrested after confronting boy over PlayStation console

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Two Joliet men were arrested after they got into a confrontation with a boy over a stolen PlayStation video game system, police said.

About 6:30 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 1800 block of Knapp Street after receiving a report of a car that had been hit, Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark said.

When the officers arrived, they saw there was a car in a parking lot that was heavily damaged and spoke with the owners, as well as another person who apparently left the scene, Clark said.

The officers then learned that Jose F. Valdivia-Hernandez, 21, and Alejandro M. Valdivia-Hernandez, 18, both of the 400 block of Leach Avenue, drove to the parking lot to confront a boy over a stolen PlayStation video game system, Clark said.

One of the two men pulled out a firearm during the encounter, but officers did not find it at the scene, Clark said.

The boy who was confronted by the two men tried to leave the area in his car, Clark said, but both men used their car to block the his exit.

The boy still managed to drive away but scraped their car, Clark said.

Clark said Jose and Alejandro Valdivia-Hernandez both had knives.

After the investigation, the officers arrested both men. They were both jailed and were scheduled to appear in court for a bond hearing Monday afternoon.

  • PlayStation continues to dominate Xbox

    PlayStation continues to dominate Xbox

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Five years after its debut, Sony Corp.’s $300 console is enjoying one of the strongest product cycles seen in the business, thanks to a steady stream of popular game titles. That’s helped the Tokyo-based company ship twice as many PS4s as Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox One, even without relying on its usual tempo of price cuts.

That puts Sony’s franchise in a strong position to counter the $34.6 billion console industry’s next challenge: games delivered via the web. After years of predictions that cloud-based gaming would make hardware — machines and games on discs — obsolete, the technology finally appears close to being ready. Google’s Project Stream this month began letting U.S. users play the latest version of Assassin’s Creed on a Chrome browser from any computer. Amazon.com Inc., which bought gameplay-streaming website Twitch and has the No. 1 cloud-computing service, is in a prime position to push into cloud gaming.

“Within PlayStation’s history, this will be the most robust holiday quarter ever,” said Masaru Sugiyama, an analyst at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. “Until now Microsoft was the only rival, but with Google and Amazon moving in, it’s going to become tougher to stand apart.”

Microsoft isn’t sitting still, either. From next year, the software maker’s Project xCloud will use the company’s global cloud network Azure to stream and play high-end games, on “any device.” Early impressions of Google’s Project Stream have been favorable, with users saying that the experience comes close to playing on a console or personal computer — without the need to actually own one.

For now, Sony’s dominance in consoles — 84 million PS4s versus 39 million for Xbox One — is paying off. Analysts estimate the company is on-track to post operating profit of 790 billion yen ($7 billion) in the current fiscal year. Last month’s PS4 exclusive title Spider-Man, which set company sales records, will provide the largest contribution to profit growth when Chief Executive Officer Ken Yoshida reports quarterly results on Oct. 30, analysts say.

For the upcoming holiday quarter, the PlayStation 4 boasts its strongest video-game lineup in years. The PS4’s dominance over Xbox One means most gamers will buy and play blockbuster titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on Sony’s console. Even its virtual-reality business is getting a boost from this month’s critically-acclaimed Astro Bot.

Game titles, which typically make up 80 percent of the industry’s total revenue, are key to the PS4’s longevity. Sony has cut the price of its flagship console by just 25 percent since 2013, compared with reductions of at least 50 percent seen for previous consoles at the same point in their life cycle. With more room to lower prices and add to the PS4 user base, Sony is well positioned to bolster profitability through 2021, according to Atul Goyal, an analyst at Jefferies.

The big question is whether PS4’s successor will be designed to embrace cloud gaming, include handheld gaming, move deeper into virtual and augmented reality — or all of the above. Sony has yet to set a date for what will presumably be called the PlayStation 5. One thing that gaming analysts and experts agree on is that the next-generation console will probably be backward-compatible, meaning users will be able to play PS4 games, and vice-versa. That will create a smoother transition, helping to keep gamers within Sony’s ecosystem and away from cloud-gaming rivals.

“If I already have a ton of games linked to my account with all my trophies and saves, the last thing I want is to abandon it all and move to another platform,” said Damian Thong, an analyst at Macquarie Group Ltd.

Given that cloud gaming has been one of Sony’s weak points, it’s more likely that the company will continue to focus on hardware or look to tie-up with Amazon, which has yet to announce its cloud gaming offering. After rolling out its PlayStation Now platform in 2014, the online service has mostly failed to gain traction, with gamers complaining about spotty performance. CEO Yoshida recently told the Financial Times that the PS4’s successor will be a physical device.

“The battle between local and cloud is beginning,” said Goldman’s Sugiyama. “What can the PS5 achieve that isn’t possible in the cloud?”

  • Bully 2 will be Rockstar’s next game after Red Dead Redemption 2, before GTA 6?

Bully 2 will be Rockstar’s next game after Red Dead Redemption 2, before GTA 6?

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

According to recent reports, Bully 2 might be Rockstar Games next release on PS4 and Xbox One.

While the famous Rockstar studios are currently busy with the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, their next major single-player launch may have been leaked.

Internet sleuths have found evidence that suggests Rockstar may be in the middle of the development of a Bully sequel.

This stems from reports regarding casting calls being made for a new AAA game.

Request for a “new unannounced video game title with a leading UK games developer, shooting at Pinewood Studios,” have been making the rounds.

And they have been linked to a new Bully game; a follow up to the hit PS2 title from Rockstar Games.

The casting calls are reportedly looking for people to fill young roles, none of which have been given full character names.

Details of the roles include: “Mild violence and profanity will be used in scenes with the young performer.

“The project itself is a thriller/drama, and all scenes with the young performer will be handled with sensitivity.”

There have also been calls for actors to fill College Professor roles, narrowing down the idea that this could be for Bully 2.

Unfortunately, no smoking gun ties this project directly to Rockstar Games.

So fans will have to take this latest report with a big pinch of salt as there is no guarantee it couldn’t be for something else.

The evidence does stack up with earlier rumours that Bully 2 was in development at Rockstar Games.

There have been concept art leaks linked to a Bully 2 game, although Rockstar themselves have remained tight-lipped on the subject.

A leaker connected with GTA Online also revealed that Bully 2 was in development and will be the next big release, following the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2.

This appeared online earlier this year and comes from a noteworthy Rockstar insider.

Yan2295 posted the news on a popular Rockstar forum, adding: “Bully 2 is indeed in development and is supposed to be the next game after RDR2.”

It certainly sounds like Bully 2, not GTA 6, will be the next game arriving from Rockstar.

The usual five-year cycle between Grand Theft Auto games has been broken, with Rockstar launching RDR2 in 2018. It certainly seems like the overwhelming success of GTA Online came even as a bit of a surprise to the studio.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced in October 2016 and has taken an extra two years to hit shelves.

Rockstar said at the time that the game required further polish, but some analysts believe it also has something to do with the game’s online mode.

Red Dead Online looks set to play a major in the new game’s success and will arrive in beta form in November 2018.

But if it proves to be anything like as successful as GTA Online, could fans wanting GTA 6 be left waiting a longer period of time?

There’s no doubt that GTA Online continues to prove a massive success, with the base game still selling well.

And if Bully 2 will be in the frame and taking up development room, there’s a chance that GTA 6 won’t be announced for some time.

  • If Not GTA 6, What Do You Want Rockstar’s Next Game To Be?

If Not GTA 6, What Do You Want Rockstar’s Next Game To Be?

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

With rumors swirling in all directions for years regarding projects, one of which was always the now very real Red Dead Redemption 2, We thought it would be fun to speculate on what might come next from one of the industry’s titans. With the seemingly safe assumption that GTA VI is next in line three or four years from now, what comes after that? Here are our best guesses, ranked according to likelihood.

    Unranked: Midnight Club, Manhunt

Among the most prominent games the label has put out as in-house works, these two come to mind as the types that are definitely done. GTA has, at this point, built into it a racing suite more interesting than a strict racing game like Midnight Club could ever do on its own. It doesn’t feel like Rockstar would want to make a game in the genre post-GTA V.

    5. Max Payne

After taking over the full project from Remedy for Max Payne 3, they seemed to tell the anti-hero’s farewell story. Playing Max Payne 3 felt like they had wrapped it all up as a neat and tidy trilogy. Could they bring the series back for more? Possibly. Max would be even older than he already was, but in a series where someone that drunk and high can shoot guns that well, we guess they’re not too concerned with realism.

    4. Agent

Do you remember Agent? You’d be forgiven if not. The game has a long and speculative history. First titled as early as 2003, the game was at one point due out for PS2 and Xbox. It then went totally quiet until 2007 when Sony revealed that Rockstar was working on an exclusive for the PlayStation 3. Two years later, Agent was officially revealed as a Cold War-era spy thriller when Sam Houser himself, hardly seen at any E3 in recent years, took the stage to debut the title.

    3. New IP

We are putting this one right in the middle of the likelihood rankings because we could really see it go either way. Maybe Agent morphs into something else (or maybe it already has), or maybe Rockstar decides to finally create one of several other games they’ve likely been sitting on for years. Parent company Take-Two seems to give them quite a long leash to choose their own adventure, and with that freedom maybe there need not be a sequel at all, but a totally new IP that may become the next big franchise.

    2. Bully

After RDR2 was finally unveiled, many began speculating that Bully would (or at least should) be next in line for the long-awaited sequel treatment. While Red Dead fans had to wait eight years between titles, 2019 will mark 13 years since Bully released, and there certainly won’t be a Bully 2 in 2019, if there ever is one at all, which means they’ll be waiting for even longer than that. A new Bully with modern technology could be a lot of fun for Rockstar and for players. Rethinking the elements of the school day, playing hooky and skateboarding across town, dodging hall monitors and teachers, just generally being a juvenile delinquent, it all has the air of something with which Rockstar could do awesome things.

    1. L.A. Noire

Of course, there is one title that fits the bill better than even Bully, and that’s L.A. Noire. Not only does it have the sandbox, open-world layout to its advantage, something which we believe is of great importance to Rockstar right now, but it has another clear trend in its favor as well. What do Max Payne and L.A. Noire have in common? We’ll give you a minute to guess.

What do you think Rockstar’s next project will be? Maybe more importantly, what do you want Rockstar’s next project to be?

  • Xbox vs PlayStation: Which Does America Love More?

Xbox vs PlayStation: Which Does America Love More?

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

The dispute over consoles came to a head in November 2013, when the PS4 and Xbox One were unveiled to the world, just seven days apart.

PS4 might be killing it with worldwide sales, but what’s the situation at home? Using Google Search Data, the website Decluttr.com looked at which states searched the most for which console: PS4 or Xbox One.

Surprisingly, it turns out we aren’t as torn on our gaming searches as our politics, with the US-made Xbox One topping the list in every state. That’s aside from one very important state in the gaming and tech world.

Home to Silicon Valley, California is the spiritual home of technology. It seems Californians are all about their PS4. Is there something developers and tech pioneers know that we don’t? Are Apple, Google and Tesla employees deliberately choosing a console that won’t see money going into Microsoft pockets?

    Brand Loyalty

Decluttr.com also investigated which brand is the most popular overall.

Launched in December 1994, PlayStation had an almost seven year advantage to become the favorite gaming brand.

However, despite being launched in November 2001, our research suggests Xbox is still the most popular in the US, with PlayStation topping the searches in just 15 of the 50 states.

Interestingly it seems PlayStation terms are searched more in certain areas, such as the West Coast, topping the polls in California, Oregon and Nevada. Which is a similar story in the South East states such as Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

It also topped the polls in metropolitan cities New York and Washington, whereas Xbox dominated the searches across the majority of the east and Central America.

    So there it is America.

PlayStation Classic’s full game list announced

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

When the PlayStation Classic was announced in September, the mini-retro box had plenty of details confirmed, including a December 3 release date and a $99.99 price. But its full 20-game list was missing, which changes today with an unveiling of what will likely be the make-or-break factor for potential buyers.

In the United States, the PlayStation Classic will ship with the following games. (An asterisk means the game was previously announced during the September unveil.)

    • Battle Arena Toshinden
    • Cool Boarders 2
    • Destruction Derby
    • Final Fantasy VII *
    • Grand Theft Auto
    • Intelligent Qube
    • Jumping Flash! *
    • Metal Gear Solid
    • Mr. Driller
    • Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
    • Rayman
    • Resident Evil (Director’s Cut)
    • Revelations: Persona
    • Ridge Racer Type 4 *
    • Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo
    • Syphon Filter
    • Tekken 3 *
    • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
    • Twisted Metal
    • Wild Arms *

The list includes a few glaring omissions for PlayStation faithful. The biggest crater in the list is arguably thanks to publisher Activision, whose PlayStation-defining series Crash BandicootSpyro the Dragon, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater all missed the cut. (Sony originally published Crash and Spyro games before those series’ rights were acquired by Activision.) EA is nowhere to be found, as well, though its roster of popular sports games would likely be a rights quagmire to bring back in a retro collection like this.

Additionally, Sony has left two of the PlayStation’s defining racing series off the roster: WipEoutand Gran Turismo (which each had two PS1 entries). Standing in their stead is Cool Boarders 2(which is the only ’90s “extreme sports” game on offer; sorry, Jet Moto fans). And while Square Enix has shown up with the previously announced Final Fantasy VII, the publisher apparently didn’t cough up any of the best-selling original Tomb Raider games—or any of its other hugely popular ’90s RPGs.

That’s different in Japan, where Squeenix RPGs Parasite Eve and SaGa Frontier will reach that nation’s version of the console. Japan’s PlayStation Classic will also ship with two Arc the LadRPGs.

We do see a decent number of bonafide PS1 classics on the final USA version, particularly the original Metal Gear Solid, which could have been locked up in a Konami-Kojima rights nightmare, and the first Persona RPG, which could prove quite interesting to newer fans of that long-running series. And the system includes a fair number of solid two-player games, which emphasizes the fact that the PS Classic ships with two controllers. (Though, to that point, Battle Arena Toshindenshould be nowhere near this console; while the game’s 3D visuals impressed during the console’s launch period, Tekken‘s graphics and combat quickly eclipsed it, and its sequels drove that point home.)

The game is focused exclusively on multiplayer, with no single-player campaign, so it makes sense that the developers would look harshly on players trying to get a leg up in multiplayer battles. Although it might be tempting to take advantage of glitches when playing, this news is a strong reminder that it isn’t worth the hassle to cheat.

Other new content in the update includes access to the “Black Market,” where players can purchase cosmetic items, and the launch of the Halloween Event across all platforms with spooky-themed cosmetic items available in a second stream of the Black Market. Other minor changes have been made like doubling the bleed-out time of the last zombie in the Zombie mode, boosted XP rates in solo and two-player matches, fewer Hellhounds spawned in certain levels, and tweaking the use and effectiveness of Elixirs.

Rumor: Sony to Discuss PS5 Behind Closed Doors at Devcon 2018

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

More PS5 rumors are coming in and according to the latest one, we are closer than ever to know about the next-gen console from Sony at PlayStation Devcon 2018. PlayStation Devcon is a place where Sony gathers all of the gaming developers and talks about their achievements or new products.

This time it’s not like as before because Sony moved this event to a later date and is now also holding it in their London headquarters instead of United States. It’s the same event at which Sony first talked about PS VR and PS4 so discussion around PS5 is a possibility this year.

Registration for this year DevCon 2018 event is now closed.
If you have already registered, we will be confirming places soon so look out for the email!
Please contact us via DevNet if you’d like to discuss late registrations.

Registrations are already closed and there’s no information about when it’s going to be held. As we are just two months away from 2019, this event is going to be held very soon.

With PS4 Pro, Slim and VR already out there, PS5 seems to be the only new hardware that Sony will talk about. Maybe it’s also the reason why they changed the event date. With Xbox X018 also around the corner, seems like both tech giants are going to announce their upcoming consoles very soon or at least brief developers about them.

Interestingly, a recent patent shows a built-in VR feature in PlayStation 5 that tracks your moments through two bracelets. These bracelets will not need any external device to work, according to the patent.

Sony Interactive Entertainment filed this patent on October 11 so it might be something to also talk about at Devcon 2018. Other patents from Sony reveal backward compatibility support which is currently the most wanted feature on PS5. Sony is also looking to work on a V-Sync technology which has been available for PC users already.

The upcoming major title like The Elder Scrolls and a new Call Of Duty game are also expected to arrive on PS5 and Xbox Scarlet.

Next generation talk continues to be a hot topic with even publishers themselves discussing what’s next on the gaming horizon. With both the PlayStation 5 and the codenamed Xbox Scarlet looming closer and closer, Yonghwan Kim, a designer from Seoul decided to put their own creative input into the mix with a visually stunning render of what they’d like to see the next PlayStation platform look like.

Kim created these concept images that look amazing! Sony should take notes. If you like to see more of Yonghwan’s work, check his Behance profile.

Yonghwan Kim designed a PlayStation Move controller concept that looks like it could be an actual official product from Sony. The designer came out with the design for the reason that Sony hasn’t designed a controller with the intent of being VR friendly. PlayStation Move controller was designed first for their motion games back in the PS3 generation. The control layout for those games made more sense but seems to be a bit awkward with VR.

With Microsoft looking to bring “console quality” streaming to phones and tablets with Project xCloud, how will the company achieve that when touch controls are still pretty bad? It seems the company is looking to bring physical controllers to mobile devices to offset this problem, according to these Microsoft Research papers.

The research paper documents some of the popular solutions to gaming via a touch screen, while hailing the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation Portable (PSP) for circumventing touch-based control limitations with full joysticks and buttons.

As smartphones and tablets have become pervasive, so has mobile gaming. Not surprisingly, popular games for these platforms are focused on touchscreen-based interaction. However, many types of game are less well-suited to mobile devices. Despite systems like AdaptControl which can adapt to the ‘drift’ typically occurring when using virtual on-screen controls, touchbased emulations of traditional gaming controls like Dpads, buttons & joysticks are often unsatisfactory.

Mobile gaming devices like the Sony PlayStation Portable and Nintendo’s DS and Switch are dedicated mobile gaming platforms which overcome these limitations via physical controls. The success of the Switch is testament to the value of mobile gaming with physical controls. A number of cheaper products allow a smartphone to be clipped into or onto a modified handheld gaming controller; these include the ION iCade mobile, the GameCase, the GameVice and products from Moga. However, the fixed form of these accessories means they are bulky and inflexible.

Microsoft built the prototypes out of foam and then had them 3D printed, based on conceptual renders. The work was carried out quite a while ago, back in 2014, but it seems Microsoft Research has resurfaced their efforts recently, noting the recent success of the Nintendo Switch.

While this research may be far away from turning into an actual product, it’s pretty imperative that Microsoft takes a serious role in exploring how it can improve the way Xbox games will handle on a mobile device to help take Project xCloud mainstream. Touch-based inputs have always felt like a half-way solution, and will feel even more like one when they come up against games designed from the ground-up for responsive, tactile inputs.

The Bureau of copyright, the US made revolutionary changes in the copyright Law in the digital age (DMCA). Previously, the DMCA prohibits users to make modifications to the operating system, which is operated by electronic devices and can repair them, it could be fined and even jailed.

Founder of iFixit Kyle Vince explained that authorize amendments to the law:

    • To hack and modify the device with built-in voice assistants (including smart speakers Google, Apple and Amazon)
    • To remove with new and used smartphones carrier binding
    • Repairing smartphones, devices, smart home and appliances
    • To make changes to and create own software for cars, tractors and other motorized equipment
    • Order repair of electronic devices and equipment from third-party organizations

The DMCA still prohibits US citizens to hack, modify or repair game consoles.

Restrictions in the case of this category of devices is so serious that even the user can not replace the Xbox or PlayStation broken optical drive or hard drive – for this purpose it is necessary to contact an authorized service center.

It seems like you could well be playing The Elder Scrolls 6 on PS5/Xbox Two/whatever the hell the next wave of consoles are called.

Shortly after the megaton action-RPG was announced back at E3, Bethesda boss Todd Howard admitted the game was merely in “pre-production”, and thus was a looooong way off. New comments from Matt Firor of ZeniMax Online Studios back up the thought that the next Elder Scrolls is probably years away from launching.

“The easiest thing is look at how it was announced; it was Starfield and then Elder Scrolls 6,” Firor said in an interview with Gamespot. “You can go back and count the years between Bethesda Game Studios releases, and you’ll get the idea it’s not coming anytime soon.” He then added that by the time the RPG epic finally hits, “there will be a different console generation by then, I’m sure.”

I for one look forward to playing The Elder Scrolls 6 at some point in 2024 on an 8K TV that’s thinner than a sheet of A4. At least it gives me plenty of time to finally finish Skyrim.

  • The PS5 Rumored to go With AMD’s Next-Gen 7nm Hardware, Navi and Ryzen

The PS5 Rumored to go With AMD’s Next-Gen 7nm Hardware, Navi and Ryzen

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Its that time of year again. Rumors about the next generation of consoles have started spreading around the internet. We do know that Sony isdefinitely working on the PS5 but, that’s all we know, at least officially. There are a lot of rumors claiming that the Sony PlayStation 5 is going to go with AMD Ryzen and AMD Navi.

Thanks to a recent report, we know that someone at Sony is working with AMD Ryzen technology.

“A principal programmer at Sony associated with the firm’s Advanced Technology Group is working with AMD’s Ryzen technology, improving the Zen core’s micro-architecture support within the LLVM compiler stack – a key component of a tool used in the PlayStation 4 development environment. Of course, there is no PS4 product using the Ryzen processor, leading to speculation that this is related to a prospective next-gen PlayStation 5 console currently in development.
The evidence – unearthed by Linux-specialist site Phoronix – shows the highly experienced Sony programmer making a number of commits to the LLVM github over the last few weeks, all of them related to the “znver1″ architecture, the codename for AMD’s first generation Ryzen processors. On top of that, information on LinkedIn confirms the staffer’s involvement in compiler development for PlayStation hardware. Game credits in Media Molecule’s Tearaway and Evolution Studios’ DriveClub confirm that the developer is also a part of Sony’s Advanced Technology Group, which serves a number of roles in the Sony organisation.”

According to rumors, the PS5 is going to use AMD Navi GPU’s. This is a good choice as AMD Navi will be the worlds first 7nm GPU. This means that Sony can give it less electricity but, get more performance in return. AMD Navi will likely do better than current GPUs in terms of temps making it the perfect option for a compact and slim gaming console.

Current-gen consoles are being held back because of their lackluster CPU. The Xbox One X has a very powerful GPU for a $500 console but, the CPU didn’t get that big of an upgrade. The GPU gets held back because of the CPU but, an AMD Ryzen and Navi combination would be perfect. The PS5 is definitely going to be more powerful than current-gen consoles and that combined with Sony’s optimization, games will look amazing.

  • Scuf Vantage review — This is no Xbox One Elite Controller

Scuf Vantage review — This is no Xbox One Elite Controller

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Since Microsoft launched the Xbox One Elite Controller in 2015, PlayStation 4 owners have waited for something comparable. Many of those fans have pinned their hopes on Scuf Gaming’s new Vantage. This is a custom version of the PS4’s DualShock 4 that has many of the features of the Elite. It comes in a wireless model for $200 or a wired version for $170. It’s out now, but is it really the PS4’s Elite controller?

    No. It’s not.

The Elite is an expensive product at $150, but it earns that price with a premium feel and precision. By comparison, the Vantage feels cheaper but costs more. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get one. It’s probably still one of the best PS4 controllers you can find, but it has some quirks that may make you want to wait.

The Scuf Vantage is rough around the edges. And that makes it tough to recommend at $200. The good news is that most of the problems are things that Scuf can address without having to re-engineer the entire product. If it can make sure future analog sticks just work out of the box and fix the bugs and flimsy switches, I’d suggest it to anyone who wants the absolute best PlayStation 4 controller.

But even in that case, this is not the same thing as the Elite Controller for Xbox One. That device looks great, feels great, and plays great, and I don’t think the Vantage matches it in any of those categories.

The Scuf Gaming Vantage is available now for $200. Scuf provided a sample unit for the purpose of this review.

People Are Putting Red Dead Redemption 2’s Graphics To Perfect Use

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably realised Red Dead Redemption II has been taking the world by storm.
Riding into town on a horse laden high with praise, gaming journalists the world over have been treating it as a rare and highly accomplished ‘masterpiece’.     .

Critics have praised the vast, detailed expanse of the game, which allows for an epic 100 hours of playing time; with visually stunning graphics which easily transport the player back to the end days of the lawless west.

The immersive quality of the game means players are quite happy to explore the gorgeously imagined wilderness at their leisure, in between moments of high octane action; herding cattle and even visiting the barbers (beards actually grow in real time in this game).

It also means players can draw knobs in the snow, which is what we only care about when it comes to these sort of games:

However, it is the realism which gaming writers have praised again and again; allowing them to feel a real connection with Arthur and those he interacts with.

To the tech artist who worked multiple late nights on the snow deformation technology, know that you’ve brought much joy to the world.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launches October 26, 2018, for Xbox One and PS4.

Rockstar Co-Founder Thankful GTA VI Isn’t Launching During Trump Presidency

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

While Rockstar Games latest title, Red Dead Redemption 2, is set for release this coming Friday, some people are already looking forward to the next installment in the highly successful Grand Theft Auto franchise. If you’re one of them, you might be in for a long wait.

In an interview with GQ, Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser talks about GTA VI and how he’s thankful it’s not releasing during the “age of Trump” — obviously referring to current US President, Donald Trump.

It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did. Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirise for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.

The good news is Houser didn’t say the game isn’t coming, so maybe Grand Theft Auto fans should also be “thankful” that Red Dead 2 is set to launch before VI. Hopefully world politics has sorted itself out by the time GTA VI releases, the last thing we want is to wait longer than we need to.

That being said, even if GTA VI was scheduled for release this year, it’s an absolute money machine. We really can’t imagine Rockstar pushing back a release or missing out on all that wonga. Plus, the game is rumoured to be years-in development already, so don’t lose too much sleep over this news. It’s coming some day.

Let us know what you think about these comments, and whether politics and video games should stay two completely different things.

God of War Creators Share Some of the Funniest Bugs from Development

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Peeking behind the curtain to see the process of game development is already a rare joy, but it’s even more unusual to see some of the flawed, erroneous moments that had to be polished out of a finished piece of work. Thankfully, Sony Santa Monica, the makers of PS4 hit God of War, have lifted that curtain for us in a newly posted video.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_gvG6fxnCo]

“Making a video game is difficult,” reads the YouTube description for the video, which showcases some particularly choice prerelease gameplay bugs. “Making a stable game that both pushes the capabilities of the hardware and creates a super immersive, no-camera-cut, epically-sized AAA gaming experience like the one seen in the new God of War, is vastly more difficult. This massive task, involving hundreds of people developing and implementing content simultaneously, which can often have a tendency to break things, definitely added to the challenge.”

Some of the glitches are the sorts of things you’d expect: hovering models, limbs going places where they shouldn’t, repeating lines. Others, though, like Atreus’ warping face and Kratos’ endless punches, make this highlight reel a hilarious viewing experience. More developers should share content like this — it makes it clear just how much work and struggle goes into these games, and how easily they could go terribly wrong.
