Updating Component Extensions: Twitch Client Beta

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

We recently announced an upcoming design update to component Extensions that will change the way streamers and viewers activate and interact with them. Developers have to make UI changes to their component Extensions by July 31 to capture the benefits in adoption and engagement the new model will provide.

    Introducing the Extensions Sidebar

Our goal is to provide the canvas for all Extensions on Twitch to shine. When component Extensions were released, it was expected that streamers would install multiple Extensions on their channels and provide complementary experiences to their viewers. Instead, we saw that few streamers installed more than one Extension despite the great work done by developers. Since launch, it has become clear to us that we needed to improve the product. To understand how, we conducted extensive user research and came away with the following conclusions.

    Component Extensions need to:

    • Be easy to find and intuitive to interact with
    • Prioritize the video first
    • Be consistent to set up and activate on a channel

To improve the channel experience for everyone, the Extensions Sidebar will be the new design model for component Extensions. This means that component Extensions on all channels will live in the sidebar by default, and they will render on the channel in the minimized state.

By standardizing where components live on the channel, the Extensions Sidebar makes it easier for viewers to find and interact with them. For viewers, this means faster recognition of an Extension than in the previous model where Extensions could be placed anywhere on the video.

Similarly, by simplifying the configuration process, we’re taking the guesswork out of activating Extensions for streamers. Now they don’t have to worry about positioning Extensions that obstruct the video experience for viewers in unexpected ways. Consistent placement will give streamers the confidence to activate more Extensions on their channel because they can predict how a new Extension will interact with their content.

We believe that these changes will result in greater adoption of the incredible interactions developers have already built and will deliver on the promise of multiple anchor types creating complementary channel experiences.

    Building Differently

To take advantage of this new design framework, developers have to make UI changes to their existing Extensions prior to GA on July 31. Following the GA launch of the Extensions Sidebar, we’ll be providing a 30-day window for developers to finalize and deploy updates to any Extensions that were not updated ahead of launch. Extensions that have not been updated for the new Sidebar design may have component support disabled until a compliant update is released after those 30 days.

This new UI model improves the way developers build components by taking away some of the complexity involved with supporting multiple states and increasing the prominence of the panel width and icon size. These benefits include:

    • No need to create or manage a minimized state
    • No need to create your own close/minimize system
    • No more transparent iframes blocking interaction
    • No more component positioning by streamers
    • Components can take more than 50% of the player width when open
    • Increased prominence of Extension icons

This change will have minimal impact on the overlay Extension experience. Overlay Extensions will remain visible by default on page load, but if you have elements positioned on the right side of the screen where the Sidebar now lives, you may need to update to accommodate the new Sidebar UI elements.

Learn how to update your component Extension to the new UI by reading the how-to guide. If you run into any issues while testing, please report them on the TwitchDev forum.

  • Nine must-have Twitch Extension features

    Nine must-have Twitch Extension features

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

If you’re building an Extension, these features can encourage streamers to adopt your Extension

Twitch Extensions capture the power of the streamer and viewer relationship with a wide range of interactions never before possible on Twitch. In the two years since launch, we’ve seen a set of best-in-class features emerge for driving more interactions and installations.

First, you need to build a great Extension. Make your design one that drives interaction and engagement between streamers and viewers and solves real challenges the Twitch community faces every day.

Next, add features that support streamers in viewers in their quest to interact in meaningful ways on Twitch. Here are nine you need to know about:

    1. Using GIFs for Discovery Manager

    Quests by Breci

Streamers want to know how an Extension works and what it will look like on their channel, because they care a lot about what their community experiences. Since you can’t upload videos to the Discovery Manager, one of the best ways to educate streamers who are interested in installing your Extension is to include a GIF that shows how the Extension will work for viewers.

GIFs are also a helpful way to communicate the live dashboard and configuration experiences for the streamer.

    2. Configuration Page Installation Guides

Say It Live by Hype Network

Knowing exactly how to install and set up the Extension, any browser sources required for broadcasting software, and any associated applications to maximize the value of the experience is crucial for getting a streamer to activate your Extension.

Developers such as Altoar with Sound Alerts and Hype Network with Say It Live have added configuration page setup guides and “Help” tabs, so that streamers fully understand how to set up things correctly at the moment of installation.

    Sound Alerts by Altoar

    3. Feedback Button

Twitch Picks by Amazon Game Studios

User feedback is extremely important for gathering information from viewers and streamers to make your Extension better, so make it very easy for your users to contact you.

We suggest adding a “feedback” button or link within the Extension or in a help tab in the streamer configuration page.

    4. OBS Browser Source Integration

    Sound Alerts by Altoar

The reason you would use a browser source in OBS instead of displaying visuals in the Extension itself is that content in a browser source becomes a shared experience and becomes part of the video recording.

Displaying in the Extension allows for custom visualizations for each viewer, but since an Extension runs on top of the player, this content does not become part of the video for later viewing.

Developers can also create custom animations that can be shown on stream whenever an action is completed, which helps viewers engage more and garner the attention of the streamer.

    5. Chat Integration

    Blacksmith by Amazon

Chat integration is important because broadcasters want to recognize viewer participation — getting a callout from a streamer is a big reason why viewers subscribe or cheer with Bits on stream.

Whenever a special action is completed, the Extension can post to Chat to both acknowledge the user and draw more attention to the Extension.

    6. Mobile Versions

    Tiltify Donations by Tiltify

Considering much of the current Twitch viewership base is mobile, having mobile versions of Extensions is a crucial part of extending their reach to as many users as possible.

Enabling an Extension for mobile devices is easy; simply add another HTML view to those you already created for the Extension.

For iOS, Extensions developers will have to register for the Apple Developer Program.

    7. Color and Theme Customization

OWN3D Design Panels by own3d media GmbH

Every streamer on Twitch has a different personality, stream format, color scheme, and community. A streamer’s brand is very important to them and because variability is so wide, building in customization tools for an Extension gives your Extension an advantage to scale to a wider audience.

    8. Localization

Twitch Picks by Amazon Game Studios

Twitch is international. Streamers stream from all over the world, viewers watch from all over the world, and people use Extensions from all over the world. Viewers can set their language preference on Twitch, and you can detect this through the query parameters and localize your Extension accordingly.

Check out this TwitchCon Developer Day 2018 talk for more insight into localization and other advice for what makes a great Extension.

    9. Pricing Customization for Bits-enabled Extensions

    Sound Alerts by Altoar

Pricing customization involves two levels of implementation: streamer-side pricing features and viewer-side pricing features.

The streamer-side features should include default pricing suggestions based on similar channel sizes as well as a way for the streamer to define what the pricing of each Bits-related action should be on their channel. Lastly, streamers should be able to set pricing minimums on Bits-related actions for their channel.

Pretzel Rocks (Song Requests) by Pretzel Tech LLC

The viewer-side features should include a default suggestion for initial Bits usage, but can also include a user interface that allows viewers to choose their own amount. An example of this feature is the Pretzel Rocks Bits calculator, where viewers can collectively compete with each other to make sure their track plays next.

    Honorable-mention features for Bits-enabled Extensions

    Streamer-side Bits Insights

For Bits-enabled Extensions, you’re more likely to get greater adoption by helping streamers understand what will probably get the most Bits usage. However, it’s not totally necessary for your first Bits-enabled Extension version. A great example of insights for streamers is how Sound Alerts displays sounds by popularity in the configuration view, so they can make informed decisions about which sounds may receive more Bits usage within the Extension.

    Sound Alerts by Altoar

    Chat Emote Integration

Extensions now have the Extensions Emotes API, which is now in beta for developers! If you want to integrate Partner, Channel, or Global Twitch Emotes into your Extension, fill out this form and the Emotes team can help you get started!

  • GTA 6 release date UPDATE: Great news for PlayStaton and Xbox fans? Huge Rockstar rumours

GTA 6 release date UPDATE: Great news for PlayStaton and Xbox fans? Huge Rockstar rumours

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

GTA 6 rumours are coming in thick and fast, with PlayStation and Xbox fans potentially being given a major boost about Rockstar Games’ next title.

GTA 6 release date news today includes what could be a big hint for PlayStation and Xbox fans about Rockstar Games’s next hit. GTA 6 has not officially been confirmed by Rockstar Games but that hasn’t stopped fans from getting excited about the next Grand Theft Auto game. And in recent weeks they’ve had plenty to go on with some eye-catching GTA 6 release date rumours emerging.

The floodgates were opened after a shock rumour emerged claiming GTA 6 would have a release date in 2020 and be a timed launch exclusive for the PS5.

According to an anonymous post on Pastebin Sony allegedly paid “big money” to get one month’s worth of exclusive PS5 rights for GTA 6.

Another rumour later emerged on the same site which claimed GTA 6 would only be out for the next-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

Allegedly GTA 6 won’t be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One “because of memory restrictions”.

And a new GTA 6 rumour might have shed a light on why this could be the case.

It had previously been claimed by alleged leakers that GTA 6 would be set in multiple cities – Liberty City and Vice City.

However, a new rumour has claimed that GTA 6 could be even bigger than that – potentially the largest open-world Rockstar Games has ever created.

It’s been claimed that GTA 6 will not only be set in Liberty City and Vice City but also Los Santos.

That would be the locations for all the PS2 GTA games, with Liberty City also appearing in GTA 4 and Los Santos in GTA 5 after that.

The rumours were sparked after a Rockstar Games employee posted a review on Glassdoor.

The site lets current and former employees anonymously review companies, and these write-ups are independently verified before appearing online.

In the section “advice to management” the anonymous poster left multiple comments with each one on a separate line.

And the beginning letters of each of these sentences spells out GTA6LSVCLC.

This could be hinting that GTA 6 will be set in Los Santos, Vice City and Liberty City.

If that’s the case then GTA 6 will be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game ever, and likely the biggest open world Rockstar has ever made.

Fans of the series would surely relish the chance to revisit maps that made them fall in love with the series.

And having such a huge open world available to players would surely make GTA 6 a day one purchase for many Grand Theft Auto fans.

The latest rumours were revealed in a post by Dexerto, who reported the Glassdoor review may also have left hints that a new Bully game is in the works.

Both GTA 6 and Bully 2 are games that have long been rumoured to be in development at Rockstar Games.

  • PS5 – Welcome to the future of Gaming

PS5 – Welcome to the future of Gaming

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The French site VR4Player has released the video of a new PlayStation 5 fan concept, which shows a particularly innovative design, certainly not in line with the tradition of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, but even in part recalls the lines of the first historic console Sony.

Although curious, the final design of PlayStation 5 will certainly not come close to this concept, as well as that of the new DualShock 5 controller, perhaps a look too close to the past while there are those who are willing to bet that PS5 will stand out for a minimal look and not too flashy, similar to what is proposed with the current console of the Japanese house.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItwQoIPvb-w]

This video is not an official Sony Interactive Entertainement ad. It was entirely created to illustrate an article on the VR4Player.fr website. All the elements which compose it are only an artist’s view and have nothing official.

When will PlayStation 5 be released? According to analysts, PS5 will be released in 2020 at a price of $499 and Sony may be able to sell 21 million pieces in the first two years of market presence. Interesting hypotheses but for now it is only analytical data, to learn more we should wait for the official presentation of the console, in April Mark Cerny revealed the technical specifications of PS5 reiterating the desire to focus on 8K, Ray-Tracing and SSD support instead of the traditional hard disk.

Sony will not participate in E3 in Los Angeles but it is not excluded that the company is planning a reveal in the coming months.

  • PS5 Players Can Play with PS4 Players Using Backwards Compatibility, Sony Confirms

PS5 Players Can Play with PS4 Players Using Backwards Compatibility, Sony Confirms

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Cross-generation play was brought up during the company’s most recent investor relations question and answer session. When talking about backwards compatibility in general, vice president John Kodera was quick to add that cross-generation play will be important to the PlayStation community. Keeping existing players invested is clearly of high priority to Sony as it looks to introduce the PS5, supposedly next year.

There has been a great deal of speculation about when Sony might actually launch the PS5, especially considering the fact that the PS4 Pro is less than three years old. But if the PS5 plays PS4 games natively, and PS5 owners can seamlessly play games online with PS4 owners, then the launch timing becomes somewhat trivial.

Here’s a quote from newly-minted PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan about the importance of backwards compatibility when it comes to the next generation of consoles:

Backwards compatibility, in a networked era, becomes something that is incredibly powerful. Because the gaming community is somewhat tribal in its nature, backwards compatibility gives us the opportunity to migrate that community from PlayStation 4 to next gen using the ability to play the PS4 games they have on their next generation console – groups of 10, 20, 50 gamers. So we see this, given the size of the community that we’ve been able to accumulate over all these years and hard work on PlayStation 4 as a really critical success factor for us. We think it’s incredibly important.

  • Mortal Kombat 11 Director Teases Fans Who Want Shaggy DLC

Mortal Kombat 11 Director Teases Fans Who Want Shaggy DLC

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Back in January, a petition to add Shaggy of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated to Mortal Kombat 11 surfaced online and quickly went viral. To date, it has nearly 400,000 signatures and despite being months old, is still getting new signatures every hour.

As the petition gained momentum, series creative director Ed Boon chimed in with his response to it, which suggested that Shaggy would never, ever be added to the fighting game series. Of course, this didn’t stop the demand though. People kept asking for Shaggy to the point that NetherRealm Studios just had to come out and state that the Scooby Snack lovin’ character won’t be in the game. That said, there’s still a few brave and hopeful Shaggy stans out there clinging to the idea that NetherRealm could change its mind.

That all said, Boon recently took to Twitter to ask Mortal Kombat 11 players if they would want to see the character in the game. The tweet appears to be nothing more than Boon being his waggish self, trolling Mortal Kombat fans, but for followers of the divine Shaggy, it’s a lifeline.

Of course, there’s a 99.9 percent chance that Shaggy will never be a fighter in Mortal Kombat. But, if enough fans consistently ask for it, maybe we’ll get a reference or Easter egg that pays homage to the great mystery solver.

As you will know, the game’s DLC roster has already leaked, and unfortunately, there’s no Shaggy to be seen, but there are some interesting additions, such as Joker and the Terminator.

Mortal Kombat 11 is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

GTA 6: 6 Leaked Details You Need To Know

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

In a post that’s since been deleted on Pastebin, one user dished some details on Rockstar’s much-anticipated GTA 6. It’d be remiss of anyone to claim these are 100% authentic (Rockstar, as per usual, are saying nothing), and so they must be taken with a pinch of salt – but that post deletion is usually a smoking gun in the games industry, if nothing else.

Regardless, anything GTA-related is always going to turn heads and get people talking.

Various sites like Dexerto have taken up the mantle and managed to copy the deleted post before it disappeared. That’s where the following rumours and leaks in this article come from. They deal with GTA’s story, the size of the map, an approximate timescale for release, what the future holds for GTA Online and more.

If rumours are to be believed, this could be the biggest Grand Theft Auto game yet. Plus, the familiar tale of rags-to-riches gangster could be about to follow Red Dead Redemption 2’s lead and present a more serious tone. WhatCulture Gaming’s own think the gritty toils of Arthur Morgan and company will have a big impact on how Rockstar tell their tale.

Right, enough stalling. Here’s what you came for. Those juicy, juicy leaks…

    6. It Won’t Be Released On Current-Gen Hardware

If you want to get hands-on with Rockstar’s next helping of GTA, then you’ll need to invest in some new hardware. According to Pastebin’s post, GTA 6 is just too big for the PS4 or Xbox One, but if most in the gaming world were being honest with themselves, nobody was expecting Rockstar to release the next GTA on current systems anyway.

This does mean that, aside from the touched-up GTA 5 release, there hasn’t been a Grand Theft Auto game on current-gen. Not an exclusive one, at least.

The Pastebin user’s exact wording was, “This game cant come out for PS4 because of memory restrictions”. There’s more on why later, but for now just brace yourself to drop some cash on the next series of consoles released by Sony and Microsoft. The PS5 (or whatever Sony end up calling it) is expected somewhere between 2020-2022, with some touting 2020 as being the most likely launch date.

That’d mean GTA 6 is coming out two years after Red Dead 2’s release in late-2018. That almost fits the prior release gap between the first Red Dead (2010) and GTA 5 (2013).

    5. Liberty City And Vice City Are The Main Maps

As insane as it sounds, the post noted that your character will begin in Liberty City before “eventually” making their way to Vice City. This means that all the years of speculation were true, and Rockstar are ready to once again bring their pastel-soaked vision of Miami back to life.

For the love of Tommy Vercetti, this is good news. If it’s true.

If it is, then it seems we’ll all be galavanting between major cities in GTA 6. There’s no word on whether or not we’d be able to return to Liberty after fleeing, or if there will be some sort of fast travel mechanic between locations, but it makes sense to believe there would be. After all, it’d be a hellish tease if Rockstar presented inter-state storytelling without back-and-forth travel being available.

Should this rumour ring true and GTA 6 will have more than one major location from past titles, then longtime fans will have to get their grins surgically removed.

    4. You’re In The Empire Business

“In the title, which will make you a kind of a drug lord, you will start as a small time guy in Liberty City doing odd chores and small-time thefts then eventually work your way to Vice City where you will join a famous gang. You will be tasked to look after a business in Liberty City until you are brought back to Vice City and soon become the drug lord”.

This somewhat sounds like standard GTA, right?

Again, take this with a pinch of salt, because it’s not exactly hard for someone to whip up a plot synopsis that’s in-keeping with Rockstar’s tried-and-tested story formula. Small-time gangster works his way up the crime ladder until he’s eventually on top. It’s been done before, many, many times.

A familiar tale isn’t out of the question. Almost every Rockstar epic has charted a rise from squalor to splendour, with a few twists and turns thrown in to keep things interesting, and that plot summary could well be bare bones.

If Rockstar flesh it out, then we’re sure it’ll end up being an absorbing narrative.

The word “guy” does hint that the main protagonist is male however. That may grab the attention of anyone wishing Rockstar would introduce a fully-fleshed playable female character and push the series into new waters.

    3. San Andreas Could Be There Too?

Dexerto noted in their write up of the Pastebin leak that Rockstar’s history with multiple locations precedes them.

Back in 2004’s San Andreas (which, lest anyone forget, was on the creaky and archaic by comparison to modern systems) PS2, players were allowed to travel between Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas. Those cities were based on real places – namely LA, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

This is something Rockstar may be eager to try again on a larger scale.

If Liberty City and Vice are included, then it makes some logical sense to predict that San Andreas will be too. Having all three beloved GTA locations in the same gamesounds delicious; you can practically envision fans salivating over the thought of going from Liberty’s skyscraper-heaven to Vice’s hedonistic beaches and then bouncing around on San Andreas’ hilly roads.

The Pastebin post leak does talk about a multi-location map, and that’d surely be bigger than two major cities. If this is going to be the largest GTA game of all time, which is probably will be, then we’d wager on at least one more locale to beef it out.

    2. There’s A Lot Of Countryside To Explore

Multiple cities means many, many linking roads and mountainous countryside to tie everything together and make traversing from one location to another seamless and enjoyable for players.

“…along with a vast stretch of highways and Blaine County-like countrysides in the middle of it all. There will also be some kind of timed era between the missions with flashbacks”.

That’s a direct quote from the Pastebin leak. Whilst we’re not quite sure what’s meant by, “timed era between the missions with flashbacks” (that could be a typo for all we know), the first part of the paragraph is the most interesting anyway. It claims GTA 6 will have tons and tons of link roads and map to explore between the built-up locations in-game.

The post also claimed that “different shops in different areas” would sell unique items (similar to RDR2’s stores) and that ‘Stranger’ missions would make a comeback. On the latter, that was expected. ‘Strangers & Freaks’ (as they were once known) have become a popular means of providing side missions in Rockstar’s worlds.

    1. Rockstar Has “Big Plans” For GTA 6 Online

GTA Online makes Rockstar wads of cash, and the steady stream of updates on the service has helped prolong 5’s appeal almost six years after the game was first released. That’s astonishing business, and even those who have soured on Online by now must admit that. Given Online’s importance to Rockstar then, it’s no surprise to hear that they’ve got “big plans”.

Those plans include “major content like newer towns” that’ll be drip-fed post-release. Maybe this is where San Andreas will come into things. If it’s not in the main game proper, then it could be implemented as DLC for the popular Online mode that’ll keep hardcore players invested. Or, these “newer towns” could be fresh locations entirely.

According to the Pastebin leak, Rockstar are also keen on “working closely with Microsoft and Sony on cloud gaming which will help them enable Online to be a continuous process”. This is exciting for anyone who wants an enhanced experience that’s ‘always on’.

Fingers crossed they don’t focus too much on Online though. GTA’s single-player campaign comes first.

Make the world a better place just by streaming and using Extensions in support of charity.

    Tiltify Donations

Take Tiltify, our flagship charity partner for Twitch Extensions.

Leveraging Amazon Pay, they built the first version of a panel Extension that lets broadcasters set up a drive for a cause and track donation progress over time.

A new version of Tiltify Donations adds broadcaster rewards, challenges, and polls to drive more awareness and support from broadcasters’ audiences during a fundraising event.

Tiltify is currently raising funds for St Jude Play Live, a prize month fundraiser, through May 31.

Additionally, May 18 is Tiltify’s official Red Nose Day’s Nose Bowl where Broadcasters and celebrities will join forces between 12PM PST and 5PM PST to raise funds to end child poverty.

“Tiltify was created specifically to help streamers maximize their charity fundraising. We have proudly been used by the streaming community since 2014 and work with over 600 charities in seven countries. We’re available for any of your favorite charities with no sign up fee.”
     — Tiltify CEO Michael Wasserman

    DonorDrive

DonorDrive joins us supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Children’s Miracle Network via the Extra Life Charity Leaderboard. Featuring mobile donation support on iOS and Android, both of these Extensions showcase which broadcasters raised the most during a drive for their charity.

“The Extension essentially activates an Extra Life-themed channel badge that’s connected to the content creator’s fundraising page. [It] allows viewers to donate directly to their local children’s hospital without ever having to leave Twitch. This Twitch Extension is literally saving kids’ lives by connecting Twitch’s passionate community with seamless donation technology!”

  • GTA 6 : Latest Rockstar news and the FOUR platforms it needs to launch on

GTA 6 : Latest Rockstar news and the FOUR platforms it needs to launch on

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

The GTA 6 release date looks as far away as ever but just how long will fans be waiting for the big announcement from Rockstar Games?

To put it mildly, GTA 5 is going to be a massive game when it is finally announced by Rockstar Games. But fans still don’t know how long they might be waiting to play the new title in the popular series.

The good news is we’re almost 100% guaranteed to see GTA 6 announced in the future. The bad news is that we don’t know when that will happen, as the usual five-year cycle between Grand Theft Auto games has been broken.

Rockstar released RDR2 in 2018, but the overwhelming success of GTA Online seems to have taken the studio a little off-guard. Red Dead 2 was delayed significantly by Rockstar, meaning its release may have been affected by how well GTA Online was performing.

Rockstar said at the time that the game required further polish, but some analysts believe it also has something to do with expanding the game’s online mode.

But from the early showing of Red Dead Online, it doesn’t appear it will be cannibalising GTA Online like first thought.

Having a direct competitor with plenty of free content already has left many Red Dead Online fans wanting to more.

It’s already been reported that the number of people playing RDR2 multiplayer has dropped.

So could Rockstar Games look to ramp up their plans for GTA 6 to make way for their next massive online venture? And what platforms will it arrive on?

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCZgVGFwKo0]

It’s probably too early to say if Rockstar will speed things up, considering as Red Dead Online is still in beta and could very well recover handsomely in the months to come.

And the platforms it needs to arrive on should follow closely with how the release date pans out for the development. If GTA 6 can be launched in 2020, then there will be a number to choose from.

This list would include PS5, Xbox Two, PC and Google Stadia as the main core. However, given how many current gen consoles have sold, the PS4 and Xbox One would be good shouts too.

However, since many believe that GTA 6 won’t arrive until at least 2021, we can probably forget about the current gaming machines.

A recent recruitment drive at various Rockstar studios suggests that something big is in the works.

In other Rockstar-related news, new jobs listings from the studio confirm its been hiring people for a big next-generation project.

Rockstar India was looking for a Senior Environment Artist who could help build “next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects”.

The listing reads: “Join our team to create next-generation worlds for some exciting upcoming projects! Strong modelling and texturing skills are not enough. Candidates must be able to create immersive, living, and fully-realised environments.

“As a Senior Environment Artist working at Rockstar India, you will be responsible for creating exciting and believable artwork, creating and texturing environment assets for the biggest and best open world environments in the industry.”

This happened earlier in 2019 and certainly sounds like something for the PS5 and next Xbox console.

New hardware from Sony and Microsoft are expected to be released in 2020, meaning that we probably won’t see anything from Rockstar until they are established.

That would make a new Grand Theft Auto game launching in 2021, following an eight-year development cycle, seem plausible.

There’s also good reason to believe that GTA 6 won’t be Rockstar’s next big gaming project.

Recent rumours suggest that Rockstar is planning to launch Bully 2 next, followed by whatever next-gen project they have in the works.

Games industry analyst Michael Pachter predicted a new title would launch in 2020, telling Games Industry: “I think we’ll hear about a new BioShock game and a new title from Rockstar, both for 2020.”

“It would be cheating to say that the company will announce Borderlands since it will probably happen before this article is published.”

An upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for next-gen consoles and PC is also expected, although nothing has been confirmed yet from the studio.

  • Anthem update April 23: 1.1.0 patch notes news for PS4 and Xbox One

Anthem update April 23: 1.1.0 patch notes news for PS4 and Xbox One

    Reading Time: 9 minutes

A NEW Anthem update is being released tomorrow, April 23, with early patch notes revealing what to expect on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

UPDATE ONE: Official patch notes have been released today by BioWare, covering all the changes made in Anthem Update 1.1.0.

The most noticeable tweaks include the release of the new Sunken Cell Stronghold, which is available to everyone who has completed the game.

You can find the full patch notes released by BioWare listed at the bottom of this article.

ORIGINAL: Anthem’s global community manager Andrew Johnson has confirmed that the game’s next update is arriving on April 23.

And it sounds like there’s going to be plenty of patch notes to go with it on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

According to Johnson, Anthem’s latest Stronghold will be launched alongside various other gameplay improvements and bugfixes.

Strongholds are four-player adventures that you unlock throughout the game by completing the story.

Once they become available to you, you’ll need to find three other players to tackle each one. If you can’t round up three friends to join you, players can use the Anthem matchmaking option and enter a squad.

The Sunken Stronghold is expected to be the one being launched tomorrow, having had the livestream reveal delayed earlier this month.

The bad news is that the game will have to go offline for several hours for maintenance.

BioWare has confirmed that downtime will last around five hours, but that the schedule is also subject to change.

From what has been shared by Johnson so far, it appears that a livestream covering all the changes will be hosted after the update goes live on all platforms.

Here’s more from the Anthem Community Manager, who told fans on Twitter today: “Our next game update (1.1.0) will be released tomorrow with the new Stronghold and various other game improvements and fixes.

“We will detail all of that out in our patch notes tomorrow, as well as give an update on the 90-Day calendar.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF5Q9_mYl7o]

“You’ll need to download the client update after the servers come back online following the scheduled maintenance. Be sure to follow @EAHelp for updates on that.

“If you’re doing the math, this means you’ll actually have a chance to try out the update before our livestream, which I believe is a first!

“I feel like I should reiterate that times are always subject to change with our livestreams, but that’s what we’re shooting for.”

From what has been shared today, gamers in the UK will see Anthem go offline at around 1pm

“We’ll be doing some maintenance on Anthem tomorrow, April 23, from 12 – 5 p.m. UTC (7 a.m. – 12 p.m. CT). We’ll let you know here if anything changes,” An EA help message explains.

Official patch notes for tomorrow’s Anthem update are expected to be shared by the dev team and include all the major changes being made to the game.

New Era: How to launch a game with a Twitch Extension

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Extension is driving viewer engagement & building pre-sale buzz months before launch

It’s getting harder and harder to break through the noise and build quality buzz in the months leading up to a games’ launch. Gone are the days when a trailer, high-res screenshot, or a basic gameplay reveal event could drive the type of organic sharing, conversation, or engagement that it might have in years past.

These days, new and highly innovative pre-launch awareness tactics are not merely welcomed but required — and that’s where Twitch and Extensions come in.

Last week, a select group of Twitch streamers had the opportunity to participate in a Borderlands 3 Gameplay Reveal Event, but what made this reveal more buzzworthy and interactive than your typical gameplay reveal event was the accompanying Twitch Extension.

The Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Twitch Extension allows viewers to be an active part of the event where historically they could only sit back and watch. The feature-heavy Extension gives viewers the ability to learn key game skills and techniques by inspecting the contents of the streamers’ backpack, explore their loadout, and study their skill tree.

Taking it a step further, if viewers connect their Twitch and Gearbox SHiFT accounts — they are able to gain in-game loot and grab rare items, giving them a head start on assembling their own arsenal, while also building personal investment and motivation to purchase the game come its September release.

Not all who view the rare chest discovery on stream are winners of the rare items, the Extension coordinates a randomized drawing giving only a portion of the viewers the take-home, which undoubtedly keeps viewers watching and engaging longer.

“Streaming has become an important part of the game industry and as game developers, we should consider how our game designs leverage streaming both before and after launch. Twitch provides an endless amount of opportunities for us to build streamer and viewer features, some of which they might not have even realize they want until they use them!”

-Scott Velasquez, Lead Online & Social Developer at Gearbox

Based on the wildly active Twitch Chat, it was clear the viewers enjoyed the Extension — but what do streamers think of the interactive experience? Here’s a clip of King Gothalion giving his own unfiltered feedback (spoiler alert; he’s a fan.)

More and more game publishers are putting additional time, effort, and creativity into their pre-launch building buzz phase to capture that much-needed element of viewer engagement and participation — and that’s where Twitch is very comfortably positioned to be utilized.

GTA 6 release date update – Great news for fans about Rockstar Games next hit

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

GTA 6 release date news today includes a big update about the next hit title from Rockstar Games.

GTA 6 release date may still be awhile away, but fans of the Rockstar Games series have been delivered an encouraging update ahead of it. GTA 6 rumours have been coming in thick and fast with plenty of claims swirling about the highly anticipated PlayStation and Xbox game.

Recently it was claimed that GTA 6 could have a release date in 2020 and that it would be a PS5 exclusive for one month. If the shock claims are true then it would give Sony a big advantage at the start of the next console wars.

It’s unclear whether GTA 6 will be solely for next-gen consoles such as the PS5 and Xbox Two, or whether it will be cross-gen with PS4 and Xbox One.

And ahead of the GTA 6 release date big news about the highly anticipated title could have leaked again.

As revealed in a post by PCGamesN, a member of the gaming industry may have let slip that work on GTA 6 is currently underway.

A 3D artist that worked for Rockstar Games’ India studio briefly included GTA 6 on their online CV.

Bibin Michael claimed that he had created concept vehicles for GTA 5 and GTA 6, which hasn’t officially been announced yet.

Michael is credited in the thank you page for Red Dead Redemption 2 so he has worked at Rockstar Games.

Soon after the GTA 6 reference was spotted by members of GTA forums it was removed from Michael’s CV.

It remains to be seen if this specific leak turns out to be legit, with previous ones turning out be pranks.

The latest GTA 6 rumours come hot on the heels of a previous alleged leak which claims the new Grand Theft Auto would be out next year.

A post on Pastebin was recently discovered from someone claiming to be a third-party dev in Europe that knows about the PS5.

According to the leak, GTA 6 will have a release date of holiday 2020 – and it’s rumoured that it will be a timed PS5 exclusive.

Sony allegedly paid “big money” to have GTA 6 as a PS5 exclusive for one month.

The rumour also claims that GTA 6 would boast two large cities for players to explore – Miami and Liberty City.

This ties into a GTA 6 rumour that emerged last year which claimed GTA 6 would see a return to Vice City.

5 Mental Health Tips for Online Content Creators
By Ross Kerr, The National Alliance on Mental Illness

Creating content and connecting with an online audience presents unique challenges. The level of consistency and engagement required to maintain your brand and following can be demanding. It can also be difficult to navigate between personal and work life when they are so often mixed. Aspects of the work that usually bring personal fulfillment may at times feel like a stressful, overwhelming grind.

If you feel the stress you’re facing is negatively affecting you, there are ways you can improve your mental health.

    Connect with Social Supports

Life doesn’t have to be single-player — and it shouldn’t be. Connection is such an important aspect of mental health. Reaching out to others who have shared experiences can help build a network of support and fight loneliness. Another approach is seeking out a mentor who understands the unique challenges of what you do. This person can be a listening ear when times are hard. They can help you overcome difficult situations and feel more equipped for the challenges ahead.

    Establish Set Coping Methods

There may be days when your internet connection slows down to a halt or a piece of content you just made accidentally gets deleted. Situations like this can make anyone feel frustrated. It’s important to consider your coping skills for when things don’t go as planned. Coping skills such as deep breathing, reading or exercise can help you release stress and gain perspective on these tough moments.

    Set Your Office Hours

Content creation often means working long hours. There’s no one telling you to go home, especially since you are most likely already at home. Setting definitive work hours can help you create a structure that allows for time to unplug, which can significantly reduce stress. It can also help you to feel more refreshed during your set work hours. And as a bonus, having a regular schedule where your audience can expect you to livestream or post content can also contribute towards building an engaged community.

    Prioritize a Hobby

For many working in this space, their hobby has turned into a career. But it’s important to have a positive outlet that doesn’t have the pressure of a career, something that is just for fun and just for you. Pursuing new hobbies or making time for old ones can provide a much-needed distraction. Whether it’s playing “Magic: The Gathering” at the local comic shop or going rock climbing, the change of focus can help take your mind off work-related stress.

    Take A Break

If you find yourself pushing through every day and feeling less inspired or overwhelmed: take a break. Whether it’s 30 minutes to get a breather or a week-long vacation, breaks are essential. Work can be hard, but it shouldn’t be painful. While there can be pressure to stay connected in order to build or maintain a following, it’s not as important as your mental health, and you need to set your own limits. Also, taking a step back gives you the opportunity to evaluate what you can change to feel better long-term.

Keep in mind that experiencing these challenges is not a failure. You should never blame yourself for having concerns about your mental health. And whether these challenges are a part of your full-time job or a side gig after work, you are not facing them alone.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has officially been revealed by Respawn at Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019.

Jedi: Fallen Order follows Cal Kestis, a young Padawan who is on the run from the Empire, specifically an Elite Inquisitor known as the Second Sister. He holds a lot of secrets and the Second Sister, as well as a new squadron of Stormtroopers, dubbed the Purge Troopers, want to hunt him down.

After Order 66, an event that occurred during Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith declaring all Jedi traitors to the Republic, Cal is forced to abide by three new rules: Don’t Stand Out, Accept The Past, and Trust No One.

Cal is played by Cameron Monaghan, who has been in shows such as Gotham and Shameless. Players will meet him on a brand new planet called Bracca. Cal will come across new and old faces in the Star Wars universe, including his companion Cere and his droid buddy, BD-1.

  • Some New Leaks Show GTA 6 and PS5 Coming out in 2020 and the Internet is Never Wrong, Right?

Some New Leaks Show GTA 6 and PS5 Coming out in 2020 and the Internet is Never Wrong, Right?

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Anybody can post a bunch of rumored PS5 specs, or anything else, on Pastebin. That’s the point of Pastebin. But these days, when morsels of truth can be hidden in any quantity of internet bullshit, we at GamesRadar+ feel obligated to present you the details along with a few complimentary barrels of industrial grade salt. Seriously, lay down enough salt to melt a long stretch of icy highway before you read on – but do read on, because it’s always fun to get another perspective on what PS5 could maybe, maybe be.

The original Pastebin file, which came from a European game developer that works on a PS5 launch game was first created in December. It’s been on the internet ever since then but now has appeared again to our attention. It’s about the time when PS5 would be announced and when it might actually be here. There are also some possible specs for the hardware and some games that could meet the light of the day.

According to the site, we’ ll get a sneak peek of PS5 in June this year, however, not at E3. The console might arrive in November 2020, and for the price of $499. That’s at $100 more than PS4’s launch price. It will come with backward compatibility and a 7nm Ryzen 8 core. Also, a 16-thread processor with 14 teraflops. It’s been said that this one will show the real deal of 4K gaming, and it will have a new wireless iteration of PS VR.

The controller will come with some new updates, too, with a camera inside for virtual reality.
