Another Big Red Dead Redemption 2 Mystery Has Been Solved

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

It’s shocking the amount of stuff you can find in Red Dead Redemption 2. Heck, the Stranger missions, Legendary animals, and camp side-activities were already enough as it is. But it seems another major discovery has been made, and it’s not what you’d expect. UFOs were one thing, but this is another entirely.

To keep you from getting spoiled, we’re going to be vague with the details of this discovery. It’s really worth seeing it through the end so you can experience it yourself. The objective of this mission is quite simple: find five mysterious writings scattered across Saint Denis. Once you’ve found all those, you’ll get a map that points you to an alleyway near the church in town. However, in order to trigger the event properly, you need to visit at night. If you really want to know what it is, hover your mouse over the text below:

You find five mysterious writings that inevitably lead you to finding an actual vampire. Seriously. A vampire!

Below we detail the locations of all five mysterious writings, as well as provide directions on how to get to the alleyway by the Saint Denis church. You can find the writings in any order, but for the sake of clarity, we’ve numbered them to make it easier to follow. Massive props to Luke Lawrie of steviror, who deserves all the credit for being able to discern these clues and find them all across town. With bizarre stuff like this, it seems there’s no shortage of secrets tucked away in Red Dead Redemption 2, so if you’ve discovered something crazy, be sure to let us know about it in the comments below.

    Clue 1

The first clue is located on the building just above the second “N” in “Saint Denis” on the map. You’ll see it written on the wall of a red building with white doors.

    Clue 2

The second clue is near the Saint Denis market place where the local Fence and Trapper are. It’s tucked away in an alleyway behind a gate where there are some neatly stacked barrels.

    Clue 3

The third clue is located by the Butcher and General Store on the southwestern side of town. It’s on the other side of the shops, tucked away under an overhang.

    Clue 4

The fourth clue is found directly north of the post office, tucked away in a corridor. Look to the shot above to chart a path to its locations.

    Clue 5

The final clue is found on another wall of the building the previous clue was written on. Simply head up north to get to it, but you’ll likely have to run around the building to reach it. This building complex is a bit of a labyrinth but stick with it and you’ll find it eventually.

    The Big Reveal

As stated above, you’ll get a map once you’ve gathered all the clues. It’s a tad vague in the direction it’s trying to point you, but it’s ultimately trying to get you to go to a secluded alleyway to the west of the General Store and Butcher. However, the special event won’t trigger until nighttime, so be sure to advance time at the local saloon. Once it’s night, head to the alleyway and prepare yourself for a bizarre event that defies expectations.

RDR2 Players Find Road That Lights Horses On Fire

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Red Dead Redemption 2 players have found an unsettling new glitch in the game, a road that sets horses on fire.

The Verge has reported strange clips of horses bursting into flame for almost no reason have been floating around the internet since the game launched on October 26.

Players in the game have recently noticed all the glitches seem to focus on one particular road, just outside the township of Rhodes.

It looks like it’s not just horses either as players have found several non-player characters (NPCs) who have fallen victim to the invisible flames.

“What… curse has befallen this individual,” player Matthew Reynolds wrote on Twitter after coming across an NPC and their horse smouldering on the ground.

“There’s something wrong with this horse,” Case MacNeil wrote, posting video of their horse collapsing onto the ground in flames.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very large open world game and therefore comes with plenty of chances for confusing or funny.

IGN made a montage of some of the best ones, including horses falling over and flying into the air for no reason, characters disappearing into the ground and people merging into each other.

YouTuber Raz pointed out there’s even one glitch that can trick the gamer into repeatedly giving your character free money.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Spoiler Alert about UFO Mystery on Mount Shann

Red Dead Redemption 2 Spoiler Alert about UFO Mystery on Mount Shann

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

This is getting very interesting, as second UFO is spotted in the game on Mount Shann and this time is a different color than the first one.

The very first UFO was green color and has been seen north of Emerald Ranch. There was a hidden message with instructions to follow – return to the cabin near the lake at 2:00 AM on a night with a Half Moon.

When we visited the cabin again, a green light showed up in the sky and a green UFO was seen.

The letter that we found mentioned Mount Shann, but at that point, we had no idea what Mount Shann is or where can be found, until today.

We found Mount Shann, went to the location shown in the image below at 2:00 AM and saw the second, red UFO.

Here is the second UFO spotted in Red Dead Redemption 2.

  • Automated Extension Activation AKA the Future of AFK

Automated Extension Activation AKA the Future of AFK

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

There’s no doubt that Twitch Extensions are a great way to increase interactivity between you and your community, but changing your active Extensions based on your stream status (i.e., starting soon, gameplay, AFK etc.) can be clunky and time-consuming.

Well, we’re excited to announce a look into the future of stream status Extension management. The talented folks over at Player.me recently released a streamlined and automated Extensions management experience inside their recently launched desktop application. Now you’ll be able to assign groups of Extensions you’ve installed on your Twitch channel to support specific scenes.

Learn more about the future of Extension scene management at Player.me!

    Why is this so cool?

So let’s say I’m a streamer, and I’m ready for a gameplay bio-break; therefore, I don’t need my accompanying live stats Extensions active anymore, I need a new suite of Extensions to keep my viewers entertained and engaged while I’m away from my keyboard.

With Player.me, I can automatically change to my custom AFK scene which can be set up with engaging game Extensions, like the new Twitch Arcade, designed to entertain my audience while I’m AFK, and potentially even grab some Bits in the process.

    Twitch Arcade

This particular use case is just one of many potential scenarios leveraging automated Extension activation designed to empower creators to build much more engaging viewer experiences while significantly reducing the transitional workload.

To get started automating the activation of Extensions:

    1. Download the Player.me desktop app here.
    2. Connect your Twitch account on signup or login.
    3. Go to the ‘Studio’ tab in the application.
    4. Click the ‘Manage Extensions’ underneath the scene viewer.
    5. Activate Extensions in the modal by adding them into the dotted boxes. You’ll also be able to assign Extensions to activate on different scene types (i.e., Start, In-Game, and Intermission).
    6. Now when you’re streaming with the Player.me desktop app and you switch scenes, your Extensions will automatically update to those assigned to that scene type.

If you have any questions or issues around this Extensions feature in Player.me you can always reach them through their support chat here.

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer? When Red Dead Online comes out.

Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer? When Red Dead Online comes out.

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

RED DEAD Redemption 2 multiplayer looks set to be a huge undertaking by Rockstar Games, who could also be adding these features when Red Dead Online comes out. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a massive success for Rockstar, which is only going to get better with the release of the multiplayer mode.

Fans will need to wait a while longer before the Red Dead Online beta will begin, although there is good news. Rockstar Games has confirmed that this will start in November, with some fans hoping it will launch late next week. This is based on how long players had to wait for GTA Online to launch, although this didn’t include a beta phase.

And it looks like there will be plenty of people to help test Red Dead Online when it comes out. Rockstar has shared that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been the most pre-ordered full game ever on PlayStation Network, as well as registering the biggest day one full game sales ever on PSN.

And with over 86 million PS4 consoles sold, there’s going to be a lot of people ready to start playing Red Dead Redemption 2 multiplayer.

Recent leaks have provided a first taste for what might be coming to PS4 and Xbox One later this month.

Data miners believe they have found evidence that players will be able to buy vehicles and properties when Red Dead Online fully launches.

From what has been shared online, players will be able to purchase wagons with mounted weapons on them, among other items.

There’s also a list of properties players will be able to buy as well, much like with Rockstar’s other massive hit, GTA Online.

These ideas seem pretty likely for Red Dead Online, although they haven’t been announced by Rockstar yet.

They remain speculation for now, although we do have an idea of what is coming later in November.

Speaking to IGN before release, Josh Needleman, Senior Producer at Rockstar San Diego, explained that they were going to use the best bits of GTA Online as a template, revealing:

“One of the biggest differences between GTA and Red Dead universes is that you’re often speeding through or flying over a GTA world, whereas in Red Dead Redemption the change of pace elevates the intimacy of the overall experience.

“Like the single-player game’s story of Arthur Morgan, we want people to settle into their online characters and feel like every activity makes sense for the character, the setting and the time. This should feel intimate and personal while still feeling fun and action-packed from moment to moment.

“We’ve tried to take the best elements and best content packs from Grand Theft Auto Online and use them for templates for what we are making here. We feel Grand Theft Auto Online really only found its feet creatively with Heists.

“That pack, along with After Hours, The Doomsday Heist, Gun Running and a few others represent the best of Grand Theft Auto Online, and provided the template for what we wanted to use here, (not in terms of content, obviously, but how they combined narrative, gameplay, modes and other content into a cohesive thematic whole) alongside all of the elements we liked from the old Red Dead Redemption multiplayer.”

So it sounds like expanded heist gameplay and customisable vehicles might be on the cards.

No set release date for this has been confirmed by the development team, past the timeframe of November 2018.

GTA Online took a long time to launch with stable servers, and Rockstar Games will be looking to avoid past mistakes. It’s also unclear at this time if there will be a gap between the beta release and a full launch of the multiplayer mode.

Red Dead Online could generate huge amounts of revenue for parent company Take-Two Interactive.

So it would make sense that they would want to kick off the Red Dead Online beta as soon as they can.

This will make it easier to rid the system of bugs, along with problems with servers and online gameplay.

As you might already know, anyone who owns a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 will get access to the online mode.

It will not be launched as a separate entity, and anyone who wants access will need to buy the game on PS4 and Xbox One.

Sony launching 2TB PS4 Pro and ‘Copper’ Dualshock 4 in Japan

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

With over 80 million units sold worldwide, I guess Sony isn’t afraid of pushing a new hardware variant nearly every month. As revealed through Sony’s Japanese PlayStation site, a new copper DualShock 4 and another 2TB PS4 Pro are in the pipeline. They’ll arrive on November 21 in Japan, and the copper remote completes the silver and gold set that was previously released.

The 2TB PS4 Pro is kind of a bigger deal. 2TB models were hard to come by given that Sony only had them available as a limited edition type deal, but this new release will now become the standard PS4 Pro. In other words, November 21 will be the first time worldwide where getting a 2TB PS4 Pro is as easy as going to the store and picking it up.

  • Director Wants WWE superstar Bautista To Play Kratos In God Of War Film

Director Wants WWE superstar Bautista To Play Kratos In God Of War Film

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Video game fans listen up! A God of War movie may be heading for the big screens. One director already has his eyes set on who will be playing Kratos.

PlayStation fans had a field day after Sony released a reboot version of the successful video game for PS4. The impressive gameplay and even more impressive cinematic had many thinking that the title could be adapted into a movie. Much like Warcraft or Tomb Raider.

Well, fans aren’t the only ones thinking about a possible movie. Steven S. DeKnight, director of Pacific Rim Uprising, has made his intentions known that he wants to make the movie. The director has even thought of his own God of War movie cast.

“I would love to tackle God of War movie or I would love to see somebody put that up on the big screen. Asked who wants to play Kratos, the main protagonist of the game, DeKnight said he has Dave Bautista in mind. According to him, he believes the former WWE superstar turned action superhero “can do anything.”

“Somebody asked me, ‘Well, who would you have to have Kratos?’ And immediately for me: Dave Bautista would be the man. I think he can do anything. You can do drama, real emotion, humor, action,” DeKnight shared, as noted by Cinemablend.

It does seem like the Guardians of the Galaxy star fits the role. Kratos is a Spartan warrior who embarks on quests to exact revenge against the Olympians who betrayed him. He is massive and walks around shirtless — something that would not be a problem for Batista, obviously.

DeKnight may have it all planned out in his mind, but he did admit that turning a video game into a movie is very challenging.

“What would I like to see from a movie like that? A bit of a tricky question because there hasn’t really been 100% success of translating a video game to a movie. It’s a very, very tricky process.”

While seeing a director willing to work on the video game adaptation is a good sign, it may be a while before fans see a God of War movie in cinemas. Stay tuned to.

  • PS5 and Xbox Scarlett Should Push Forward Cloud Technology

PS5 and Xbox Scarlett Should Push Forward Cloud Technology

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Looking forward toward next generation consoles and theorizing about what possible leaps they might make is a particularly interesting topic right now, because of all the possibilities. One of the things that seems like the next big step is cloud computing and cloud gaming, and judging by efforts being made by both Microsoft and Google, it makes sense to see why many people feel that way.

One of those people is Cipto Adiguno, product manager at Agate Studio, who’re the developers of the fantasy management-RPG hybrid Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story. We recently conducted an interview with Agate to talk about their game, which recently launched for PC and consoles, and after speaking about the game a bit, our conversation eventually turned to what Adiguno’s expectations from next generation consoles are.  He mentioned advancements in cloud technology, while also hoping for console development kits to be available in Indonesia, where Agate is based.

“I think PS5 and Scarlett will be able to simulate the world more realistically than ever before,” he told GamingBolt. “From me personally, my biggest expectation is not from graphics, but how we will play our games. With the advancement of cloud technology, perhaps soon I could play my latest AAA games anywhere. Also, I hope the SDK for PS5 and Scarlett will be available in Indonesia too.”

We also asked Adiguno if he felt cross-platform play was something he felt would be a defining feature of next-gen consoles, but in his view, it’s something that’s more of a basic need than anything else, and consoles will still continue to rely on features and exclusives to help them stand out.

“I don’t believe so,” he said. “Cross platform for developer will be basic needs because we need more player able to access our games. But for the consoles themselves, just like this generation, they will still need exclusive titles and specific features that differentiate them from their competitors.”

  • PS5: 8 CONFIRMED Features We Already Know

PS5: 8 CONFIRMED Features We Already Know

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

The PS4 may still be riding one hell of a wave since its release back in 2013, but it’s no secret that Sony is already deep into research and development for its inevitable successor, the PS5.

Most industry estimates peg the console as likely to release in the final few months of 2020, and while that would leave us around two years out from it finally hitting stores, word about the platform’s specs and features have started to leak out as Sony starts to nail them down.

Thanks to patent findings made available online and word from industry leakers with strong track records, there’s actually a pretty decent amount of information out there about the PS5, and the picture’s quickly becoming clear about what kind of console it will end up being.

If the PS4 swerved sharply away from the PS3’s divisive design and technical execution, it seems that the PS5 won’t veer too far from what’s made Sony an easy market leader for the last five years.

It’ll be a beefier unit, of course, but you can mostly expect Sony to double down on their current initiatives and hopefully provide a few neat quality-of-life fixes to the eco-system.

So, while we probably won’t have an official PS5 unveiling until 18 months from now, here’s what the trusted early word on the street tells us…

    8. Faster Start Times For Games

As fantastic as the “suspend/resume” feature has been on the PS4, Sony is reportedly planning an even faster solution on PS5.

Resetera user console lover discovered that Sony apparently wants to find a way for next-gen games to launch “instantly” as they would on, say, a Mega Drive cartridge, and the company filed a fascinating patent this past January to that effect.

If you can sift your way through the technical jargon, it basically suggests that the PS5 will most likely feature RAM-intensive loading systems which can near-immediately load game assets, and most likely a last known save, from the moment you hover over a game icon and before you’ve actually pressed the launch button.

As handy as suspend/resume is, if the PS5 can genuinely do away with splash screens and dive in and out of separate games within a matter of seconds, that’s a major leap forward indeed.

    7. Backwards Compatibility Is Finally Happening

One of the PS5’s worst-kept secrets is that it’s definitely going to include a comprehensive form of backwards compatibility with prior generations of hardware.

It goes without saying that it’ll support PS4 games, but a recent patent filing by Sony makes it clear they’re pursing “remastering by emulation,” and have been working on it for around two years.

More specifically, the patent relates to players inserting a legacy software disc into a contemporary machine, which will then download remastered visuals and audio on-the-fly to replace the more dated assets.

Considering how deep we are into the PS4’s life cycle, it makes all the sense in the world that Sony would save it for a PS5 announcement in early-to-mid 2020.

Plus, it’d be a fantastic way to sell the console and finally compensate for the PlayStation lagging behind the Xbox in this area.

    6. Renewed VR Support

If you were worried that VR’s rather middling level of esteem in the gaming world might cause support to drop off, it sounds like that’s not the case at all.

Renowned leaker SemiAccurate, who has a history of delivering correct reports on industry tech, reported earlier this year that VR will be “baked in” at the silicon level on the PS5, effectively making it able to play VR content on its own without the need for the cumbersome breakout box that PSVR 1.0 currently requires.

Furthermore, new patent filings suggest that Sony is currently prototyping new VR controllers to replace the awkward, 8-year-old PlayStation Move controllers, and that this controller may be able to detect individual finger movements thanks to an unprecedented camera system.

It’s entirely possible the Move 2.0 ends up somewhat different than the patent, but it’s abundantly clear that Sony has zero plans of dropping PSVR support for PS5. As such, it’s reasonable to expect PSVR 2.0 to land within a few years of PS5’s release.

    5. It WILL Have A Disc Drive

There have been depressing rumours in recent months that, due to the uptick in digital sales in recent years, next-gen consoles may end up ditching disc drives entirely in favour of a download-only content delivery system.

Thankfully industry analyst Michael Pachter has pretty much stamped those worries out by insisting that both consoles will indeed have disc drives. He claims that it ultimately comes down to Sony and Microsoft maintaining a healthy relationship with brick-and-mortar stores, which they rely on to sell consoles.

If they suddenly cut storefronts out of the games media business, there’s not much incentive for them to bother selling the consoles either, so doing away with disc drives entirely seems like a mightily risky move. Plus, in countries with strict data caps like Australia, digital-only would be absolutely devastating.

It’s certainly possible that Sony could release a cheaper PS5 model without a disc drive, but the base console will 100% have one.

    4. A More User-Friendly PSN

One of the biggest complaints about the PlayStation dating back to the PS3 has been the rather awkward infrastructure of PSN itself, namely the lack of accessibility features compared to Xbox Live, and worst of all, the inability to simply change your bloody username.

The PS4 era has seen some encouraging improvements, but it’s been an awfully long time getting there, and only this past month did Sony actually formally confirm that username changes are set to arrive in an upcoming firmware update. It’s only taken them over a decade.

Windows Central writer and industry sleuth Jez Corden recently stated that he heard Sony was working on a “big infrastructure/platform update” in time for the PS5, and that it may be heavily rooted in cloud technology.

Given that Sony could be doing so much more with PSN, it’s somewhat encouraging to see them setting the table for a more intuitive and, yes, user-friendly PSN on PS5.

Wouldn’t it also be neat for the PS5 to also include a “time played” tab for every game, as Nintendo consoles have been doing for years and years? We know that the PS4 tracks time metrics, but sadly doesn’t make them available to players.

    3. It Will Run On AMD Ryzen CPU Tech

Numerous reports have stated that the PS5 will continue Sony’s relationship with AMD, and that the new platform will run on their Ryzen CPU, which has been honed specifically for it.

The PS4 of course ran on the AMD Jaguar CPU and has been lauded for its stability and ease-of-use in games development, so there’s really no incentive at all for Sony to look anywhere else.

So, what does this mean outside of the technical gobbledegook? Eurogamer did a fantastically comprehensive rundown, positing that the PS5 could see a massive computational boost over the PS4, bringing it closer to the level of a high-spec desktop PC.

It depends on a ton of factors, of course, and not merely the CPU, but it’s certainly an encouraging sign all the same.

    2. The Disc Format Will Be 128GB BD-XL

With recent news that Red Dead Redemption 2 will ship on two discs due to its 100GB install size – and digital users will need an extra 50GB to unpack the game – there’s been plenty of discussion about whether the current Blu-ray disc format will actually be viable for PS5.

After all, so many AAA games require patches, updates and additional downloadable content counting in the tens of gigabytes, so it would certainly be beneficial for the PS5 to move beyond the 50GB limitations of one dual-layer Blu-ray.

Numerous rumours and more convincing industry reports state that Sony will be making use of their new four-layer BD-XL discs, which can hold a stonking 128GB each.

While this may end up boosting the cost of PS5 games, it’s at least nice to know that Sony won’t be sticking with a media size that’s seemed increasingly restrictive in recent years.

    1. V-Sync Support (Finally!)

With another patent we have yet another confirmation of Sony’s plans for the future. A filing from last month makes it clear that Sony is working on V-sync support for the PS5, which eliminates screen tearing by matching a game’s frame-rate to the display’s own refresh rate.

It’s a GPU-intensive technology and therefore not typically a part of the game console equation, but it looks like Sony’s about to change that with the PS5.

It’d be a major step forward for bringing consoles further in line with gaming PCs, and while not a major selling point to the casual gamer, will certainly prick up the ears of those who do most of their gaming on a desktop at present.

What do you make of these confirmed PS5 features? Excited or disappointed? What else would you like to see? Shout it out in the comments!

  • Where to find the best wild Arabian horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

Where to find the best wild Arabian horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Best horse in Red Dead Redemption 2 is called the Arabian. It’s white horse that costs a lot of money, and has hands-down the best starting stats of all the mounts. Since it’s so expensive, most people won’t want to buy it from the stables. However, there’s a way to get the Arabian for free. If you want the best mount for your lonesome cowboy, our Red Dead Redemption 2 best horse guide will show you how to get free Arabian.

How to get free Arabian in RDR2?

The only place we’ve found the Arabian in the wild was at Lake Isabella, in the northwestern part of the map. It’s directly north of Mount Hagen, and the horse usually wanders around the western shore of the lake. The are is covered in snow, and the mount is white, so you might have a hard time spotting it.

Once you do, use the lasso to capture it. Slowly shorten the rope while calming the beast (square on PS4, X on Xbox). When you’re next to it, press triangle (Y on Xbox) to mount it. It will start thrashing, and you’ll have to press the left analogue stick and move it in the opposite direction in order to subdue it. Once it calms down, you’ll get a message saying you’ve broken the horse.

Now all you need to do is dismount, remove the saddle off your current horse (inspect it using L2/LT, then press up on the Dpad) and place it on the Arabian. And that’s it! Congats – you just save hundreds of dollars. The Arabian starts off with 6/9 speed and 6/8 acceleration. Caring for the animal and bonding with it will only increase those stats, so don’t forget to pat it on the head from time to time, brush its mane and feed it nice things.

  • Announced at Developer Day: What’s New in Developer Tools and Solutions

Announced at Developer Day: What’s New in Developer Tools and Solutions

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

At TwitchCon Developer Day 2018, we reviewed the many product innovations released in the past year. We also celebrated some of the amazing community contributions that have redefined how streamers and viewers create memorable moments on Twitch.

TwitchCon was a moment to rededicate our commitment to empower developers with the tools and incentives to build Twitch Extensions and game integrations. As such, we announced several product releases and an upcoming roadmap of the products and features that will help developers build, engage, and monetize their products on Twitch.

    ICYMI, here’s a quick recap —

    Available Now

For developers building Extensions, we announced a new web-based WYSIWYG editor to help you get started building Extensions, as well as an AWS credits program to help you host and scale your Extensions.

    Online Sandbox

The Sandbox is a web-based WYSIWYG editor. It makes it easier for developers to build and ship Extensions with robust samples and real-time testing on a live channel.

See the Sandbox in action now.

    AWS Credits Program

We’re excited to team up with Amazon Web Services (AWS) again to provide an opportunity to receive up to $1000 of AWS promotional credits and educational resources to creators of promising Extensions for up to a year. These credits can be used to cover the cost of AWS services that will support your initial proof of concept and reduce your burden of building and hosting your own backend to launch Extensions.

Learn more about the program now.

    Username Addition

We added “username” to the API and webhook payloads by default. This will simplify a developer’s workflow by using one API for user ID and username calls.

    Smart Rate Limiting

Smart rate limiting makes sure that Twitch Extensions can scale with user growth, while ensuring reliability for everyone in the Twitch Community. For example, if Ninja adds your Extension, you get more capacity.

Visit the API documentation to learn more.

    Coming Soon

Be on the lookout for some new launches in the next few weeks. Here are few that help developers monetize their Extensions and add new functionalities.

    Bits-in-Extensions Enablement

Developers will be able to add Bits-enabled functionality to already-existing Extensions, so that a single Extension can serve both monetized and non-monetized channels. This means that Extensions developers can start monetizing their already-existing Extensions without needing to build their user base from scratch.

    Bits-in-Extensions Promotion

We heard your feedback that the developer revenue share on Bits used in an Extension may be limiting broadcaster adoption of your Extensions. From November through the end of the year, Twitch will cover the developer revenue share, so that more streamers try Bits-enabled Extensions. We are confident that streamers will love the increased engagement and delight in their channel and will want to continue using these Extensions after the promotion period.

    Subscriptions API

The Subscriptions API provides long-term support, reliability, and webhook capability to simplify viewer subscriber status.

    Global Emotes API

The Global Emotes API enables developers to build Extensions with a wide variety of Emotes with clear terms of service and policy compliance mechanisms.

    Exploring

We’re also excited about our future roadmap. At TwitchCon, we announced a variety of products and services to help you along your product’s lifecycle. We are designing a roadmap that will give developers the power to build, engage, and monetize their products. Here are a few that are in the works.

    Extension Cloud Services

We will provide a runtime for you to build your Extension backend, while also providing access to data services. Additionally, we’ll be delivering new Scaling Solutions to help you unlock scenarios like building viewer progression loops, dynamically segmenting your audience, and more. All these experiences will work seamlessly with our toolchain.

    Analytics for Streamers

Streamers will get Extension analytics via Channel Analytics and Stream Summary pages so they can see their Extensions’ usage and performance, which will give them insight into how Extensions are helping them engage and grow their communities.

    Social Proof for Streamers

We will deliver an Extension’s social proof through ratings and reviews to improve discovery and nurture feedback from streamers.

    Insights Dashboard

The Insights Dashboard will offer better segmentation to help developers understand their audience from a regional, device, and preferences perspective. We will also add competitive benchmarking and industry comparisons.

    Bits-in-Extensions Entitlement Service

Twitch will handle user in-game items, which will be a secure way to store and retrieve a users’ entitlements and will reduce the requirement to build and maintain a backend for many Bits-enabled Extensions.

    Subs-in-Extensions Limited Preview

We will enable Extensions to be aware of the viewer’s subscription status and to trigger the subscription flow. This capability was launched in limited preview with Snap Camera at TwitchCon. We are also working on defining the business model that will enable developers to participate in the value created by Subs-in-Extensions and plan to have a path forward to share with our developer community before the end of the year.

Watching Ads in Extensions Limited Preview

In 2019, we will introduce advertising in Extensions. Our first ads initiative will enable viewers to support streamers and developers by opting into watching ads to access value in an Extension. We are very excited about the potential of ads in Extensions to unlock the power of monetization for a broader audience of developers.

    Merchandise in Extensions

We are partnering with Amazon Pay to pilot the sales of merch in Extensions. Designed by Humans and FazeClan merch Extensions were launched at TwitchCon. These trailblazing Extensions will enable viewers to buy streamer merch while watching Twitch. Depending on the results of this pilot, we intend to expand this partnership with Amazon Pay to include more developers and more categories of physical purchases in Extensions.

Our top priority moving forward is to understand and deliver the tools you need to be successful on Twitch. Please let us know how we’re doing. We’re always looking for feedback from developers like you.

Follow our public roadmap here and post comments or ask questions and give feedback on the Developer Forums.

See some VODs of these Developer Day announcements, sessions, commentary, and more on www.twitch.tv/twitchdev. Check back here next week for more details on how to get all the slides and the rest of the VODs from Developer Day!

  • Sony brings in a $2.1B profit as PlayStation sales continue to kill

Sony brings in a $2.1B profit as PlayStation sales continue to kill

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

The PlayStation division is always Sony’s top performer and Q2 was no exception, seeing a 27% increase in gaming revenue last quarter, contributing to Sony’s $2.1B profit.

The gamer god pulled in $4.9B in Q2 sales and helped Sony’s operating profit jump by 59% as revenue rose to $19.6B.

    Cash Bandicoot

In raw sales, Sony has sold over 86m PS4 consoles to date (up 6m from the last figure given for PS3 sales as of 2013). And, though demand for PS4s will eventually decline when the next big console drops — the hunger for games will never be curbed.

New Exclusive title “Spider-Man” sold over 3m copies in its first 3 days of sale in September, boosting the gaming division’s projected revenue for the full fiscal year 8% higher than expected.

Now Sony is ridin’ the wave

Sony is feeling so chill about the rest of the year that it has raised its full-year operating profit forecast to $7.7B — up 30% over its original target — which, if pulled off, would set a company record for annual income.

It’s not just PlayStation though. Its $2.3B buyout of EMI Music Publishing also had a massive impact, representing 55% of the additional revenue Sony wants to hit for the financial year.

Read This Before Changing Your Name On PSN

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Everybody wants a username that’s right for them, and some of us made some pretty terrible names when we were younger. For years, Xbox users had the ability to change their usernames at the cost of $10, but PlayStation players lacked that option. And while we will finally have that ability soon, your account may suffer some serious repercussions in the process.

There is currently a closed beta for this feature which will last until November 31st, and it will be fully available in early 2019. Every title released after April 1, 2018, will support name-changing, but older games carry major risks. A leaked disclaimer shown to beta testers reveals that users might lose access to the DLC and save data for unsupported games.

Other potential problems include the loss of virtual currency, leaderboard data, or trophy progress—and your new name might not even show sometimes. While the beta testers say that you can revert to your original name at no additional cost, it may not fix all of the problems caused by the name change. Another option allows you to display your old username next to your new one, but once you’ve implemented that change, you can’t reverse it.

It doesn’t hurt to wait and see if anybody has these problems when the feature officially launches, but if you’re in a dire need of a name change, consider the potential of what these bugs may do to your account and if it’s still worth it. You’ll get one free name change, but every additional change will cost $10 USD/CAD.

Do you think you’ll still change your PlayStation Network name when you’re given the chance? Hit the comments to let us know!

  • Red Dead Redemption 2 Settings That Make the Game Even Better

Red Dead Redemption 2 Settings That Make the Game Even Better

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

While Red Dead Redemption 2 offers lots of major gameplay features, the game is also full of smaller systems and game mechanics. From the core stats that players can level up, the maintenance of different guns (which impacts the effectiveness of the weapon), and the camp morale system, there’s plenty for players to think of. It’s understandable then, that some of the game’s most useful settings have gotten lost in the pile.

In a Reddit post, a user named MashXforwhat has highlighted some of the game’s hidden features. This includes the ability to get rid of the need to tap the X button (or A button on Xbox One) in order to make Arthur keep sprinting. Players can change this setting by opening up Red Dead Redemption 2‘s third-person controls menu, enabling the Standard FPS control scheme in order to move sprint to the left stick and crouching to the X/A buttons. Go to the accessibility menu > running mode and enable toggle to run to be able to click the left stick once to jog and twice to run instead of button-mashing.

Another recommended settings tweak regards the game’s firefights. Although Rockstar Games has put a lot of effort into the game’s shooting mechanics, even giving each weapon its own feel, some players have still complained that it suffers from input lag. To fix this, players can head to the third-person movement and camera controls, turn aim/look dead zone to the lowest setting, turn aim/look acceleration to the highest setting and put both aim sensitivity and look sensitivity to very high settings.

For the first-person settings, it’s recommended that players turn the field of view to the highest setting for more of a traditional FPS feel and to copy the third-person control scheme (including the Standard FPS setting) to first-person. And, speaking of first-person, it’s also suggested that players use the first-person mode when they’re looting a house as it makes it easier to pick up specific items.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very big game, both in the size of its map and in terms of what it allows players to do. So while it may be frustrating that some of the most useful quality of life features aren’t glaringly obvious, those who’ve been having trouble with the game will just be glad that they now know how to fix it.

  • Xbox Boss Praises Red Dead Redemption 2

Xbox Boss Praises Red Dead Redemption 2

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Xbox boss Phil Spencer is among those showering praise for Rockstar’s new release, Red Dead Redemption 2. Posting on Twitter, Spencer said he wants everyone to play the new game, whether that be on Xbox or PlayStation. He also mentioned PC, but, while the game is rumoured to launch for computers, Rockstar hasn’t made any official announcements yet.

Spencer’s comments came in response to his retweet of a story that boasted that the Xbox One X version of Red Dead Redemption 2 looks better than the PS4 Pro edition. “Of course I’m a bit biased … but honestly most important is just to play RDR2. Play it on a [PS4 Pro], play it on an [Xbox One S], play it on PC. Of course I’m proud of how [Xbox One X] performs, but the game quality is the true commitment here.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. It was a massive success right away, generating $725 million in revenue over its first three days.

There have been rumours and hints about a PC edition coming later, but as of yet Rockstar has made no official announcements. Red Dead Redemption 1 was never released on PC, but Rockstar’s previous game, Grand Theft Auto V, did eventually come to PC.

  • Sony Announce Cross Network Support: Play Online Against Xbox Owners From Your PS4

Sony Announce Cross Network Support: Play Online Against Xbox Owners From Your PS4

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Despite long-term resistance to the idea, Sony has finally opened a crack in the door for cross-play with other platforms, starting with a beta test of the massively popular shooter Fortnite on PlayStation 4.

In a statement posted on the PlayStation blog on Wednesday, John Kodera, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:

For 24 years, we have strived to deliver the best gaming experience to our fans by providing a uniquely PlayStation perspective. Today, the communities around some games have evolved to the point where cross-platform experiences add significant value to players. In recognition of this, we have completed a thorough analysis of the business mechanics required to ensure that the PlayStation experience for our users remains intact today, and in the future, as we look to open up the platform.
This represents a major policy change for SIE, and we are now in the planning process across the organization to support this change. We will update the community once we have more details to share, including more specifics regarding the beta timeframe, and what this means for other titles going forward.

Sony has previously blocked cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One for FortniteRocket League, and Minecraft, despite Nintendo and Microsoft supporting it. Microsoft and Nintendo teamed up to promote cross-play in Minecraft in an unusual move.

The policy change is “major,” according to Kodera, and Sony is now working towards fully supporting cross-play in Fortnite. Sony is opening a beta today to test its cross-play support and says it’s looking to open up its platform in the future. This move could signal more support of cross-play games on PS4, and either way it’s a major change for PC, PS4, and Xbox users to be able to play games against each other.

PS5: Next Generation Rumors Tackled by EA CEO

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Rumours have been running wild for a while now about the next Xbox (apparently codenamed “Scarlett”) and the PlayStation 5. Microsoft already confirmed at E3 2018 that a new Xbox was in development. For its part, Sony has also discussed next-gen hardware, stating it’s “necessary” for the future.

However, while EA CEO Andrew Wilson sought to address these rumours, he also talked about the companies as a collective possibly moving to the cloud. Following EA’s Q2 2019 results, Wilson said during an earnings call that, “There are a few articles out there; a few rumours; and a little hearsay as to what [the new consoles are] and when they’re coming and what they might be.

“I don’t think we’re in a position today to have a conversation about that. But just know that we’ve worked with Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo for many, many years and we look forward to working with them for many, many years more, even if we all collectively seek to move–either some portion of or all of our experiences  – to the cloud.”

Significant waves have been- made about game-streaming technology as of late. Sony already has PlayStation Now while Google recently showcased a playable Assassin’s Creed Odyssey in Chrome as part of its initiative. EA will look to capture a piece of the pie as well. Along with confirming plans for a streaming service, it recently discussed Project Atlas, its game platform which leverages existing technologies and AI with the power of cloud computing.

  • PS4 vs Xbox One in the USA: Here’s a State-By-State Breakdown of the Console War

PS4 vs Xbox One in the USA: Here’s a State-By-State Breakdown of the Console War

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Despite the Playstation 4 having a sizable lead (in hardware sales) on the Xbox One and most especially the Wii U, lots of fans are still probably wondering where the popularity lies. Thanks to the folks over at Movato Real Estate, we’ve not only learned which console is arguably more popular (on Facebook), but what states prefer one over the other.

Movato took the total number of Facebook “likes” that each major console has received thusfar across the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U, and they sorted them all geographically by state. Featured above, you can see a pretty mind-boggling visual for which states are pro Xbox or pro Playstation.

Xbox One is the clear winner with 22 states being in favor of the console, with the Playstation 4 just shy of 20 at a total of 19 states. There were also nine states that were complacent, or just simply tied between the two. Sadly, the Wii U scored zero states, getting less than half the likes each of its competitors received in all fifty states.

So what do you guys think? While this is by no means a barometer for the actual success for one console over the other, it’s certainly interesting.

Rockstar Games Working To Fix RDR2 Blurring Issue On PS4 Pro

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

It seems that Rockstar Games are aware of HDR issues regarding Red Dead Redemption 2 and are working to fix them.

Rockstar Support have received many complaints regarding blurriness and lack of sharpness on the PlayStation 4 Pro version of Red Dead Redemption 2, and have responded to users with a statement in response.

One user managed to get a response from Rockstar Support who told them in response “Yes, we are currently hard at work fixing a few of the issues the community is facing“.

This video depicts the blur effect, showing the game to be somewhat out of focus. It is only happening on PlayStation 4 Pro units, so we’ll have to see.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d25TMpU9srI]

Some other players have reported HDR issues across all platforms, particularly PlayStation – it appears Rockstar are aware of all of these and are working to fix them.

We’ll update you as we learn more, but in the meantime it appears there is little that can be done until a fix is released. You can follow along with the discussion here.
