    VIVE WRIST TRACKER

Introducing the new VIVE Wrist Tracker, a new lightweight and versatile VR Tracker from VIVE, designed for our award-winning VIVE Focus 3 – an industry leading All-in-One headset which uses inside-out tracking.
Lightweight, accurate, versatile, VIVE Wrist Tracker can easily be worn on the wrist or attached to objects so they can be tracked in 3D space. It’s 85% smaller than a VIVE Focus 3 controller, and 50% lighter at just 63g.

VIVE Wrist Tracker is also intuitive to use, with a simple one-button pairing feature to connect wirelessly to VIVE Focus 3. The strap can be removed and cleaned easily, or even switched out for a different one. VIVE Wrist Tracker delivers up to four hours of constant use, with an LED indicator to show you the battery status, and is charged via USB-C connector.

    Adding new levels

VIVE Wrist Tracker’s positioning and tracking abilities mean that it doesn’t just help with hand tracking, but tracking from fingertips to elbow, even predict the pose when the headset can’t see the tracker.

VIVE Wrist Tracker makes tracking hand-held objects even easier, whether that’s for sports, training scenarios using tools, or even things like steering wheels. And it even helps for older setups, effectively converting 3dof controllers to 6dof.

Location Based Entertainment (LBEs) venues can effortlessly add accessories – everything from sports equipment, like tennis racquets and baseball bats, to weapons for first-person shooter games. We will release CAD files for mounting VIVE Wrist Tracker onto objects.

    How it works

VIVE Wrist Tracker works in a similar way to VIVE Focus 3’s controller. The LEDs are picked up directly by the VIVE Focus 3 tracking cameras to help achieve standalone tracking. This also means it’s really easy to attach VIVE Wrist Tracker to other objects and track them in VR with full 6dof.

VIVE Wrist Tracker also helps with hand tracking. When user wears the tracker on the wrist, we can predict the tracker’s motion trajectories even when the tracker is out of camera’s view in a while by using high-frequency IMU data and an advanced kinematic model. With this technology, we can predict their hand position when the hands leave the tracking camera view.

So whether it’s for training scenarios, LBE gaming, or even well-being like yoga – activity where hands will frequently leave the tracking camera view, the hands pose can still be tracked by prediction.
When using VIVE Business Streaming to leverage the power of a PC, VIVE Wrist Tracker can be used as either a tracker object or for advanced hand tracking.

    Making 3dof devices 6dof

Tracked objects for inside-out CV based tracking systems generally need to be of a certain size to achieve high precision positional tracking – however that may not be feasible for certain objects or tools that have a small form factor, where adding the size and weight required for positional tracking creates issues in its usage.

With VIVE Wrist Tracker, we’re able to know the exact position of a user’s forearm & wrist. By using a special kinematic model of the wrist and sensor fusion, a 3dof device held in the hand can have its position accurately calculated in the overall virtual space. By using basic off the shelf parts, we created and attached a 3dof sensor onto objects such as a wrench and ping pong bat, which is able to provide full 6dof positional tracking with the VIVE Wrist Tracker. We will release this off-the-shelf design for developers to create their own accessories, but these components could easily be miniaturised into a much smaller form-factor.

    Availability

We’re excited to see what people think of VIVE Wrist Tracker when it launches in early 2022 starting with the US. It’ll be available from $129, €129, £119. We’ll also release a 3D CAD so that people can build their own docking solutions or harnesses.

    VIVE Focus 3 Charging Case

Today we’re announcing an advanced case accessory for VIVE Focus 3. Portability is a key consideration for those looking for an all-in-one VR device. The Focus 3 Charging Case makes for the perfect travel companion with its splash-proof rigid shell design. With both a handle and side clips for a shoulder strap (purchased separately), you have a lot of options for carrying. If you have multiple VIVE Focus 3s, you can easily stack multiple Charging Cases on top of each other.

Opening up the lockable zips reveal a soft interior, housing a centre island with a in-built storage area for chargers and cables. The original VIVE Focus 3 charger is plugged into the corner of the case to charge a VIVE Focus 3 and two connected controllers – serving as a nice compact docking station when you’re not travelling with it.

The front USB-C connector enables a special feature – auto-pairing. This is an optional feature that brings significant quality-of-life improvements for businesses or classrooms that use multiple headsets and controllers in one space. No longer do you need to worry about pairing mismatches between controllers and headsets. Once you fully plug in a complete set of headset and controllers inside the Charging Case, these devices will pair instantly, making it ready on-demand for the next time they’re used.

VIVE Focus 3 Multi Battery Charger

VIVE Focus 3 is one of the only all-in-one headsets with a swappable battery. One of the most requested accessories from businesses has been for a charging dock that can charge multiple batteries at once. Today, we’re pleased to announce the VIVE Focus 3 Multi Battery Charger.

The Multi Battery Charger can charge up to four VIVE Focus 3 batteries simultaneously. Batteries can be inserted and removed from the charger with extreme ease, using just one hand. Paired with a 120W power adapter, the Multi Battery Charger is able to charge all four batteries at full speed – which means there’s no need to compromise on charging speed even when its fully populated. The charger makes it easy to view the LED indicators on the batteries so you can immediately know their charging status at a glance.

And if you need more than four batteries to be charge simultaneously, we designed the Multi Battery Charger to neatly sit side-by-side one another.

    VIVE Focus 3 Software Updates

We also released new features for VIVE Focus 3, including those for the VIVE Wrist Tracker and other upcoming features.

    OpenXR

Viveport, HTC’s VR app store, continues to embrace cutting-edge technology which makes it easier for developers to publish their content across more devices. Viveport supports OpenXR, which is expected to become the industry standard in 2022. Developers can currently deploy OpenXR-compliant applications to a wide range of devices, and upload OpenXR versions of their content directly to Viveport.

For example, the latest hit VR games available on Viveport Infinity, such as Swarm and Zombieland: Headshot Fever, are all OpenXR-ready. Throughout 2022, it’s expected that significantly more OpenXR-compliant content will become available on Viveport; all-in-one versions of select VR apps are expected to arrive in mid 2022.

Recently we’ve been conducting private betas for OpenXR on VIVE Focus 3. We’re pleased to announce that we will be submitting for certification in the coming weeks.

    WiFi 6E

We mentioned in the last Focus 3 features blog post that WiFi 6E is coming soon to Focus 3. We’ve had an incredible response from businesses that want to use this feature. WiFi 6E connectivity on VIVE Focus 3 will soon be available in the US, UK and Germany, initially. We will continue to enable more countries as more countries open up their local 6GHz spectrum for WiFi 6E usage.

    MDM & Batch Configuration

One of the easiest ways to set up multiple VIVE Focus 3 headsets is through our Batch Configuration tool. By customising your setup through our web tool, you can prepare a batch configuration file that can be loaded onto a microSD card which then can be used to automate the setup of the headset.
In our most recent update, we’ve enabled the automation of third-party MDM installs through the batch configuration tool. In the future, we will also enable MDM profile setup through QR codes.

    2D Applications

You can now sideload 2D Android APKs onto VIVE Focus 3, using your controllers or hands to raycast touch interactions. 2D Android MDM clients can now be configured directly in VR even if lacking a VR-specific UI.

    Hand Tracking

Hand tracking is tremendously important when it comes to interaction, and as of the most recent update, it is now enabled by default.

With VIVE Wrist Tracker, we can bring huge performance improvements to hand tracking. A key part of this is out-of-sight tracking and prediction. In a conventional VR setup with only controllers and no Wrist Tracker, once a hand leaves the field of view of the tracking cameras or is occluded by the other hand, the headset will be unable to predict hand position. With the Wrist Tracker, all the sensors inside can help with all of those scenarios – including having one hand covering the other.

    LBE

We were really pleased with the feedback from LBEs on the features we announced in the previous post – such as 1,000sqm tracking volume, map sharing, and more.
In an upcoming release, we will be enabling map sharing between headsets over WiFi with the ability to configure grouping of headsets with different mapping and customizations, so there’s no longer a need to connect them up to a computer one by one.
Today we are opening up on another feature that will help strengthen every one of those feature sets: support for OpenCV ArUco markers.

With a resemblance to a QR Code, these markers are great when it comes to having an anchor in the real world. With some more pre-determined settings, the pre-determined marker can also be used as a reference for aligning virtual spaces, allowing for map alignment between headsets without even transferring any tracking map data.

Support for ArUco will be enabled in the coming months; make sure you keep an eye out for that blog post!

  • HTC VIVE Announces New Products and Content at CES 2022

HTC VIVE Announces New Products and Content at CES 2022

    Reading Time: 8 minutes

    • HTC delivers wireless VR experiences on par with PCVR, powered by private 5G and edge computing in partnership with Lumen Technologies, helping organizations deploy and scale VR experiences in a portable way.
    • The all new VIVE Wrist Tracker is the first inside-out tracker for VIVE Focus 3, delivering more accurate tracking for occluded objects and hand tracking, available in Q1 2022.
    • Launching new content with XRHealth and MyndVR to improve delivery of care and treatments on VIVE Focus 3 and expanding enterprise capabilities on VIVE Flow.

This year, HTC continues to break down the barriers between the real and virtual worlds as part of its Viverse strategy. We are excited to introduce new products and capabilities that make it easier for enterprises and consumers to access high-fidelity VR experiences across different devices, enhance training outcomes, and explore the ever-expanding metaverse.

In working with partners across many verticals including healthcare, training, and entertainment HTC VIVE is forming a comprehensive ecosystem that enables people to create, discover, and connect in meaningful ways.

“From the beginning, we have instilled openness and inclusion into everything we do. Today’s announcements illustrate our ongoing commitment to providing seamless experiences for all, no matter their race, gender, income or age. By making VR and immersive experiences more accessible, we’re creating new opportunities to explore, learn and unwind, and advancing how people experience XR technology,” said Cher Wang, Co-Founder and Chairwoman, HTC.

The 4th Industrial Revolution is here and is driving new technologies, powered by huge amounts of data, that are changing the way we live and work. Now, organizations can feel confident transforming their operational functions to better tap into these high-touch training, assisted operations, and continuous workforce improvement technologies. High-fidelity, low-latency wireless VR experiences can be run anytime, nearly anywhere – giving organizations a real tool to move enterprise training, operations, and collaboration forward.

HTC will debut its first portable, private 5G experience with Lumen Technologies, enabled by edge remote rendering and private 5G on a wireless all-in-one headset, VIVE Focus 3. The Lumen low latency edge platform, focused on supporting performance-intensive workloads of the 4th Industrial Revolution, helps HTC support transformational use cases like enterprise training, assisted operations, and virtual collaboration.

Users can now access a high-quality, wireless VR experience that is seamlessly streamed in the cloud and is easily scalable – without a wired connection to a PC or server. Traditionally, the highest fidelity VR content is delivered to a VR headset by connecting directly to a high-powered PC or a rendering server. The quality of rendering through this new 5G solution is unparalleled because of its low-latency links to GPU processing power. Alternatively, content can be loaded onto a wireless, all-in-one HMD and rendered locally, but the rendering is subject to the headset’s chipset GPU limitations. In both cases, the user requires a wired connection, which introduces economic and physical limitations, and limits the use cases for organizations.

However, by using a wireless all-in-one headset like VIVE Focus 3 with HTC’s private 5G and the Lumen fiber network with edge computing built-in, rendering can be offloaded from the headset. This new approach from HTC and Lumen delivers the dependability of a connected experience through an ultra-reliable and low-latency private 5G connection coupled with the performance and scalability of edge remote rendering. It also helps enable the next generation of HMD use cases, as more complementary applications get offloaded to the edge.

Since the launch of our wireless all-in-one headset VIVE Focus 3 last year, powered by the Snapdragon® XR2 platform, we continue to add even more capabilities and functionality that deliver even greater accuracy and enable more use cases.

Today, we’re unveiling VIVE Wrist Tracker, the first inside-out tracker for an all-in-one headset, plus new accessories for VIVE Focus 3, as well as new functionality across healthcare, entertainment and training environments.

VIVE Wrist Tracker makes accurate tracking easier from the fingertips to the elbow on VIVE Focus 3 — even when the headset can’t see the tracker or a user’s hands occlude a handheld object. VIVE Wrist Tracker is lightweight, intuitive and easy to set up. Simply turn it on and connect it wirelessly to the VIVE Focus 3. Designed to be worn on the wrist, VIVE Wrist Tracker is 85% smaller and 50% lighter than a VIVE Focus 3 controller, and can also be attached to objects for highly accurate 6DoF tracking in a wide variety of VR scenarios.

“When it comes to virtual reality training, few things are more important than creating a seamless and immersive user experience. That’s why we’re so excited to incorporate HTC VIVE’s Wrist Tracker into Axon’s latest training platform. The VIVE Wrist Tracker makes VR training more seamless, more immersive, and thus more effective,” said Rick Smith, CEO of AXON. “Axon was a key development partner for the VIVE Wrist Tracker from concept to prototype to production. The VIVE Wrist Tracker is key for enabling the most accurate tracking of objects that an officer is holding like a TASER device, beyond the capabilities of Hand Tracking alone. This is an amazing development for de-escalation training which relies on handheld objects.”

By enabling kinesthetic learning, training becomes more effective, engaging and more scalable for organizations. FLAIM develops multi-sensory immersive learning solutions for training in emergency and mission critical situations. The National Fire Protection Association found that in the US, over 80 percent of fires could be contained to the point of origin if people had access to or were trained in the use of a fire extinguisher. With the VIVE Wrist Tracker, FLAIM is able to provide more effective fire extinguisher trainings – all while reducing costs, risks, time needed to deliver training and certification, and increase the ease, safety, compliance and effectiveness.

“Integrating VIVE Wrist Trackers with VIVE Focus 3 is such a game changer and enables immersive kinesthetic and tactile experiences in a natural way.  VIVE Wrist Trackers enable a deeper learning element, which means that you retain more and ultimately have a better learning outcome, without the risk of harm or exposure to the hazard,” said James Mullins, Founder and CTO of FLAIM Systems. “We’ve already seen how kinesthetic learning improves focus and attention on learning the task, and VIVE Wrist Trackers makes VR training even more natural and immersive for organizations that want to improve training frequency and throughput per session.”

In addition to the VIVE Wrist Tracker, we will/have released new charging accessories for VIVE Focus 3 including a Multi Battery Charger and a Charging Case — enabling Location Based Entertainment (LBE) businesses like arcades to easily swap out drained batteries for fully-charged ones, without long pauses in between games or training sessions.

Learn more about the VIVE Wrist Tracker and additional VIVE Focus 3 updates here.

HTC VIVE is working with XRHealth, the leader in extended reality and therapeutic applications, to provide greater access to care with new virtual treatment rooms. The rooms will offer a variety of treatments including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pain management.

“As the metaverse builds momentum, providing virtual treatment rooms will be paramount,” says Eran Orr, CEO of XRHealth. “Providing virtual treatment for patients is going to enhance all clinician practices by offering the most innovative solutions to anyone, anywhere.”

HTC’s new immersive glasses VIVE Flow is also making healthcare applications and well-being more accessible for people to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Since launching in October 2021, VIVE Flow has dozens of new titles and experiences like Healium that helps you improve your mood, or Color Connect that lets you kick back after a long day and immerse yourself in 360-degree puzzles. HTC is also working with  MyndVR, the largest developer of virtual reality solutions for older adults in the United States, to reduce isolation and improve mood with its new reminiscence therapy app, MyndVR Originals, on VIVE Flow in early 2022.

HTC VIVE also recently released a software update that provides greater accessibility and improvements to the overall user experience of VIVE Flow.

The CES Innovation Awards named VIVE Pro 2 as an Honoree for its crystal clear and super smooth animations. With a stunning 5K resolution display and ultra-wide 120-degree field of view, VIVE Pro 2 pushes the boundaries of productivity, creation and play – delivering seamless high-fidelity experiences like After the Fall, one of the newest titles on VIVEPORT and a visual showcase for high-end PCVR gaming.

VIVE Business Training is a “one-to-many” control software that allows an administrator to easily launch VR experiences on many headsets at the same time, and remotely guide people in real-time through VR scenarios. HTC is also developing VIVE Creator, which will allow users to generate their own VR experiences in just a few simple steps. The user only needs to upload an image or video, place 3D models, then publish the VR experience to the VIVE Business Training platform. VIVE Creator greatly reduces the development barrier for VR, thus making it much easier to build content for the metaverse. Additionally, HTC is now developing a new feature to help parents ensure that their children’s VR content is safe and family friendly.

Likewise, Viveport, HTC’s VR app store, continues to embrace cutting-edge technology which makes it easier for developers to publish their content across more devices.

Throughout 2022, it’s expected that significantly more OpenXR-compliant content will become available on Viveport, all-in-one versions of select VR apps are expected to arrive in mid 2022.

Viveport, the world’s only subscription-based VR content platform, will keep supporting our developers worldwide, and will continue to provide the revenue share model of 80/20 (developers receive 80%, and Viveport receives 20%) this year.

    HTC VIVE: 2021 Year-end Highlights

As 2021 is coming to a close, we want to extend our deepest gratitudes to the VR community. Your support has empowered us to constantly innovate and improve our VR technologies, and we cannot wait to show off what we have in store for 2022. To celebrate all the different events and products of 2021, here are the end of the year highlights of HTC VIVE:

We started off the year with a bit of mystery. A tweet with a partial VIVE logo saying “It’s your move” stirred up a lot of conversation online. The speculation was fun to watch, but it was all to lead to changing the world of empathetic in VR.  We launched our newest trackers, VIVE Tracker 3.0.  VIVE Tracker has always been a popular gadget in the VR community, but, per the community’s request, we made some serious improvements. For comfort, it is 33% smaller and 15% lighter; for productivity, its battery life lasts 75% longer than Tracker 2.0. We were encouraged by the tremendous response from some VR enthusiasts interested in dance and other forms of expression in the metaverse. Regardless which headset you own, Tracker 3.0 keeps up with you.

Another product initially shrouded in mystery, VIVE Facial Tracker was teased alongside its partner, Tracker 3.0.  Facial expressions are crucial during communication as communication is also reflected by non-verbal gestures. VIVE facial tracker offers tracking with precision, allowing you to read intentions and emotions in real-time. This invention enables empathy in conversation, and it brings more immersion to your Metaverse experience.

This year, we hosted VIVECON, our premier mid-year event hosted in virtual reality.  It was remarkable to see such a large turnout from VR community members from all different parts of the globe.  We threw this event to announce two pieces of next-generation VR hardware, one for enterprise professionals; another for hardcore gamers. We think you know what we’re talking about:

The excitement around Focus 3 was phenomenal.  VIVE Focus 3 is the newest member of the VIVE Focus family. The all-in-one headset offers 5k resolution, 120° FOV, and 90Hz refresh rate. Delivering best-in-class graphics, ergonomic comfort and applications that will transform the way you work.  It was no surprise that the VR community saw this headset as a representation of where the future of VR is headed.

Sharp. Precise. Immersive. VIVE Pro 2 was and is the ultimate PCVR experience.  Pro 2 boasts an impressive 120Hz refresh rate and 5k resolution to truly transport the user into another realm.  Between its high-quality audio and industry-leading visuals, it became clear that Pro 2 was meant for those who are serious about their VR immersion and experience.

When everyone thought we had brought enough new hardware into 2021, we introduced you to VIVE Flow.  VIVE Flow is our latest pair of immersive glasses that opens up the wellness and mindfulness category in the VR space. It allows mainstream media consumers to bring VR on the go with the highest portable immersion not seen from any other VR product on the market. Its compact design positioned itself to be the perfect travel companion or thoughtful gift going into our holiday season.

The end of the year was approaching fast, but here at VIVE, we were eager to expand the VIVEVERSE with the launch of the VIVE Art NFT store. We saw that NFT’s have taken the spotlight in 2021, and we wanted to join the fun.  We are starting off with NFTs of iconic Art Nouveau masterpieces by renowned Czech artist Alphonse Mucha, as part of a major collaboration with the Mucha Foundation. The store offers all forms of digital art, including VR, AR, and XR pieces. You can be the creator or the consumer of the VIVE Arts NFT store.

  • VIVE Pro 2 Named Honoree in the CES® 2022 Innovation Awards

VIVE Pro 2 Named Honoree in the CES® 2022 Innovation Awards

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Today, we are proud to share that the VIVE Pro 2 was named a CES® 2022 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Virtual & Augmented Reality category.

The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 27 consumer technology product categories. Those with the highest rating receive the “Best of Innovation” distinction. An elite panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, engineers and more, reviewed submissions based on innovation, engineering and functionality, aesthetic, and design.

“We’re thrilled that the VIVE Pro 2 was named a top-scoring product in the CES Innovation Awards. VIVE Pro 2 pushes the boundaries of PC VR, advancing how we experience and create immersive worlds. Whether you are creating the impossible or a high-end gamer, the VIVE Pro 2 takes precision and clarity to the next level to deliver the ultimate VR experience,” said Daniel O’Brien, General Manager, HTC Americas.

VIVE Pro 2 delivers crystal clear, smooth animations that transport you to virtual worlds in a stunning 5K resolution display and fluid 120 Hz refresh rate – which is significantly higher than the standard 90 Hz found on most VR headsets. VIVE Pro 2’s fast-switching panel has real RGB sub-pixels, and a custom-made, dual stacked-lens design that increases the field of view from 110-degrees to 120-degrees over the original VIVE Pro. These advances effectively eliminate both motion blur and the screen door effect, providing users with a more natural and immersive experience, which is critical in design and training scenarios.

HTC VIVE worked closely with NVIDIA and AMD to implement Display Stream Compression on VIVE Pro 2, marking the first use of this technology in a VR headset. Display Stream Compression ensures maximum visual quality and backwards compatibility with DisplayPort 1.2, so graphics cards that supported the original VIVE Pro can also be used with VIVE Pro 2.

VIVE Pro 2 has a fine-adjustable inter-pupillary distance (IPD) range, meaning users can adjust the distance between the lenses of the headset to their personal “sweet spot” for clearer viewing and reduced eye strain. The headset also offers an evenly distributed weight balance, an adjustable head strap, and a quick-adjusting sizing dial – perfect for fine-tuning your personal preferences for a better, more comfortable experience, particularly handy for those using the headset for long periods of time. VIVE Pro 2 also boasts 3D spatial sound with Hi-Res Audio Certified headphones, while also supporting third-party headphones, for a truly immersive experience.

  • Introducing New Features for VIVE Focus 3

Introducing New Features for VIVE Focus 3

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

Today, we’re rolling out new features specifically designed for customers using location-based applications. We’re excited to offer this set of features on VIVE Focus 3, our all-in-one wireless headset with outstanding visuals and next level inside-out tracking. VIVE Focus 3 was thoughtfully designed to provide capabilities that were not yet supported at launch, and we’re excited to be the first to deliver all of these features in one headset.

    WiFi 6E

Traditional WiFi 4, 5, and 6 have operated in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. WiFi 6E is a new standard of that operates at the 6 GHz frequency range and brings a wide range of benefits. It’s not only extremely low latency and high bandwidth (perfect for VR streaming), using the new frequency range drastically minimizes the usual WiFi interference that exists. With up to 1.2 GHz frequency range, it is also able to accommodate more than double the number of devices with their own dedicated channels* – for a numbers comparison, going from WiFi 6 (5GHz) to WiFi 6E is going from 25 to 59 separate 20MHz channels or 2 to 7 separate 160 MHz channels.

VIVE Focus 3 will soon be certified to use WiFi 6E, thus unlocking extremely low latency, high bandwidth VR streaming capability. VIVE Focus 3 has had all the hardware needed for WiFi 6E since the beginning, so there’s no added cost to the headset owner to leverage this functionality. With WiFi 6E, users will experience a smoother, more immersive, and overall better customer experience. We will be enabling WiFi 6E in the coming months through over-the-air software updates.*

*As WiFi 6E is still a new standard, availability and channels will be dependent on local legislation in your country

    LBE (Location Based Entertainment) Mode

VIVE Focus 3 is now able to support tracking across a much larger play area, allowing businesses to leverage very large spaces and deliver a truly free-roaming experience. VIVE Focus 3 launched with the ability to track up to a 15m × 15m space, for comparison that’s between the area of a singles and doubles tennis court.

Today we’re happy to announce that VIVE Focus 3 will be able to support up to 33m x 30m (or 1,000m2) with smooth and seamless 6DoF tracking, providing greater flexibility to deliver immersive and compelling user experiences. Back to the tennis court comparison, this is the size of four tennis courts.

With LBE Mode, you can create a boundary in any shape you want — polygon, L-shape or any other custom shape. Once the map is set up, the experience will be ready for users to dive into. There is no need to set up the map multiple times. Automatic creation of a new boundary is disabled in LBE mode, so the HMD (head mounted device) will constantly re-localize in the known play area.

After the set up, the player can always relocate back to any point of the play area – even in spaces that are bigger than a basketball court.

LBE Mode enables customers to create large spaces for VR arcade, arena experiences or large training areas for their users, so the experience is even more realistic.

    Map Sharing

VIVE Focus 3 now offers Map Sharing, a hugely requested feature, especially among our LBE customers. It allows multiple users to operate accurate co-location tracking in a shared space, without having to individually setup or calibrate each HMD. VIVE Focus 3 is the only headset that supports inside-out tracking – making it faster and easier for customers to customize the user experience.

Most other multiplayer free-roaming experiences use an outside-in tracking system, requiring users to carry a PCVR backpack and play in a limited space with the Lighthouse system. With Map Sharing and LBE Mode, users can finally run around in the field, provide cover for each other in shooting games or share their different perspectives in escape games. These two features also make it easier to scale large, multi-person visual exhibitions like VR art galleries or professional training areas.

To enable Map Sharing, just set up a map with one VIVE Focus 3, and the map can then easily be shared with multiple HMDs at the same time. Map Sharing also allows for:

    • Duplicate single boundary/direction/center of map/floor height to all headsets.
    • All headsets can work in a single ground truth for localization and tracking without extra calibration required.

    VO (Visual Odometry) Mode

Visual Odometry (VO) mode enables users to skip the 5-minute environment set-up and begin to immediately go into the 6DoF experience right after they put on the HMD.

When you are running a multi-person experience that rotates people in and out, it takes a lot of time when each user needs to recalibrate the headset and start in a specific location in order to start the VR experience.

Now, VIVE Focus 3 makes the environment recalibration process faster and easier for users, with 6DoF tracking is available immediately right after the user puts on the VIVE Focus 3. Both the Direction of View and Center of Coordination is set as soon as the user dons the VIVE Focus 3.

In VO mode, there is no map saved on the headset. However, no map doesn’t mean you can’t set boundaries. VO mode can still set up boundaries in VRS settings for the HMD during suspend/resume.

VO mode is great for large multi-person experiences like VR exhibitions where you focus on the viewing experience, single player arcade games (where you stand in a static place to play the game), and athlete training (a group of team mates can take turns practicing their skills in an extremely immersive VR environment for the next big game).

    LBE Hybrid Mode

The LBE Hybrid Mode enables customers to leverage both VO and LBE mode for large-space 6DoF tracking.

From seeing how our headsets are used by our LBE partners, we found around 90% of attendees of LBE social multiplayer experiences require guidance on adjusting the HMD fit, which typically takes place in a prep area. This is where VIVE Focus 3 will be in VO mode, so all they need to do is adjust the HMD.

Then, when the group of players moves to the “play area,” VIVE Focus 3 goes into LBE mode and the user can immediately start using 6DoF tracking without needing to recalibrate or start in a specific spot in the room.

This is ideal when there is a lot of group turnover using the headset, such as for VR arenas or a large VR exhibition where you may have groups rotating to see a work of art.

    Additional Customization Options

    Space Calibrator

Based on the open sourced OpenXR Space Calibrator, we’ll be releasing a Focus 3 optimised version which enables even more possibilities for immersive experiences with VIVE Focus 3 by enabling support for other tracking systems. Space Calibrator extends the tracked objects beyond the Focus 3 controllers, so now accessories like a tennis racket or any similar accessories can be more accurately tracked.

The setup is simple. As an example, here’s how you could set up an environment for Focus 3 (with PCVR streaming) working with a VIVE Tracker.

Customers can affix a VIVE Tracker to a VIVE Focus 3 controller, as the picture shows. By using our version of the OpenVR calibration tool, you can use its SteamVR overlay to initiate the alignment process. Hold the Focus 3 Controller and VIVE Tracker combo, and wave them in the shape of a rotated figure of 8 or an infinity sign. When you’re done, the VIVE Tracker will be accurately aligned in the same space as the VIVE Focus 3 tracking system.

    Disabling pop-up messages

Ability to disable warning notifications such as “no boundary set up,” “no controller connected,” and other related messages that could interrupt a user.

    No floor detection

Enterprise users can manually define the floor height to what they need.

    Map number customization

We will also be enabling support for multiple maps to be stored on VIVE Focus 3, up to three per headset.

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Hey VR Community, thanks for visiting the page for the #VIVEPORTAL Giveaway Contest! Here you can find all the information about our first ever ARG (more to come if people like it!).

Join in and solve the puzzle to reveal the giveaway, and don’t forget to tag your favorite VR Influencer with hashtag #VIVEPORTAL.

Want to play? Here’s the opening theme prologue audio for the Campaign:

Anonymous: Hello, is anyone listening? This is going to sound slightly awkward, but I am from what you consider the future. I know it’s hard to imagine, but in our time period the Overseers are taking control of everything. They’ve taken hold of the last free space in the Metaverse and Npumped it with mind-controlling content. There’s not much time, and most of our warriors have succumbed to mind-viruses.

We need help from someone – a free thinker from your time – to save humanity. In the future, battles aren’t won with bullets, but through information, mind influences, and creativity.

Our mini-transmitter could only send a few messages into your time period, but we’ve also sent the tech and specs back in time to construct a special portal to open up the Flow Stream. But we can’t just take anyone due to fear of infiltration from the Overseers that is still growing in your time period. Are you creative enough to resist their control?

The portal to the future needs to be constructed at a specific location. We have hidden four components of the location within the VIVE content universe as it has shown to be the safest from our adversaries. My colleague Vee will be sending over a clue for each component when you are ready.

Anonymous: We don’t have much time so we need to start this process immediately. All the clues should be obtained within a week and we expect to bring on new free-thinking recruits within two weeks.

Good luck, and remember – tomorrow’s freedom of humanity depends on your actions today.

This is Jordan Snowe, leader of the resistance, and I’ll be transmitting more communication to you when the time is right. For now, signing off.

Location of Clue #1, Round 1 (Play clue #1 audio here)

The VR world in this time period has eight tiers of immersion. Before new immersion tiers get introduced in the future, you can find the first of four clues for the #VIVEPORTAL’s location surrounding the eight tiers.

Round 1 Freebie: find the clue location here.

(Once you have collected all four clues, combine them to reveal the portal’s location. Share your guesses of the location before round 2 starts on July 31st. Don’t forget to tag your favorite VR Influencer with hashtag #VIVEPORTAL).

Now go and save the future of free thought for humanity!

Alright! That’s the first clue as a warm-up. More challenging clues will show up this week so check back to this blogpost (or see if your favorite VR influencer is sharing it on their social media or not). Once we revealed the location, venue, and itinerary of the secret #VIVEPORTAL, a creative free-thinker from the community will get the chance to be on an amazing adventure IRL.

*The #VIVEPORTAL Giveaway Contest is a joint partnership between HTC VIVE and a sponsor that will be revealed in Phase 2.

HTC VIVE CELEBRATES TOP 100 GLOBAL VR SOCIAL INFLUENCERS OF 2021

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

SEATTLE, 8 April, 2021-HTC VIVE®, the global leader in premium virtual reality, today unveiled its list of 2021’s top 100 VR Social influencers from around the world who are leading the evolution of the VR industry, from gaming enthusiasts to product reviewers, and designers to technology industry commentators.

The influencers named on HTC VIVE’s list were ranked according to several factors including reach, levels of engagement, and how much of their content is dedicated to VR. Additional recognition was awarded to influencers who have a voice in mainstream media, such as Forbes.

Number one on the list is duo Jonathan Nafarrete and Malia Probst, founders of VRScout. This LA-based start-up has grown to become the world’s leading immersive media network, with a reach of over 250 million people. Also on the list, in position 100, is SweViver, a Swedish VR enthusiast who shares gameplay, reviews, tutorials and VR content with his 39.2K YouTube subscribers.

Cher Wang, CEO and Chairwoman of HTC VIVE, said: “As a pioneer of mainstream VR, we have seen first-hand the exponential progress of the VR ecosystem. Through their online presence, these influencers are inspiring, informing, and educating others. They are the leading voices growing awareness and shaping the evolution of virtual reality. Their commitment to VR is key to the growth of a technology that is transforming the way we learn, work and play – they are contributing to the advancement of humankind.”

The top 100 are influencing across multiple platforms, including BiliBili, TikTok and Twitch. HTC VIVE’s ranking metrics take all languages into account, and the list shows that VR conversations have a fairly even geographic spread, with individuals from 23 markets making the top 100. HTC VIVE’s research indicates that YouTube is the preferred primary platform of many VR influencers.

Yu-kai Chou, Head of Digital Commerce at HTC VIVE, said: “It’s exciting to see that these influencers are spread around the world; it shows that the popularity of VR is increasing everywhere, not just in certain markets. These ones-to-watch are helping to propel VR from a relatively niche technology towards a future where we can imagine a VR headset in every household, workplace and classroom, while inspiring others by sharing their knowledge and insights. Anyone who is interested in VR should be listening to these voices.”

    Curious Alice VR Game

    Alice in VR

In previous cooperations with the Louvre to commemorate the 500-year anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci, VIVE Arts brought the story of the Mona Lisa to life with VR.

This year VIVE Arts partnered with the V&A Museum, the VR game studio PRELOADED, and the VR platform ENGAGE on the major 2021 exhibition ‘Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser’ to present the VR game ‘Curious Alice.’

Curious Alice not only tells the story of the classic English novel Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, but it also lets people visit the wondrous world with the help of Virtual Reality.

The major exhibition ‘Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser’ features artworks by Icelandic illustrator Kristjana S Williams who designed the artwork for Coldplay’s previous live album.

VIVE Arts then turned her astonishing works into an interactive VR game for the audiences to explore.

The opening event is on March 27 at the Sainsbury Gallery.

Right before the opening event, V&A will host the preview of ‘Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser’ from March 25 to March 26.

We at VIVE also invite all the audiences around the world to experience the adventures of Alice through the VR communication platform ENGAGE.

VIVE Arts will take you into an enchanted world, where you can start a series of magical adventures in Virtual Reality.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4eKpFGD6RU]

A unique illustration style Kristjana Williams creates for the VR game.

For a bit of background, the Victoria and Albert Museum was renamed after Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert.

The author and illustrator of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Lewis Carroll and John Tenniel were also people of the Victorian era.

For that, the Icelandic illustrator Kristjana Williams used traditional Victorian engravings to create a three-dimensional paper theatre and bring the atmosphere of the Victorian era to the audience.

Because of VR, we are not just reading about Alice. We become Alice.

The Author-reader relationship is crucial because it affects how the reader experiences the world that the author creates.

Authors create stories and deliver them to audiences through the storytelling medium.

The medium can be plain text, illustration, music, opera, movie, video game, and even VR.

    Storytelling with VR

From Plain Text to VR: The Evolution of Alice in Wonderland

As message recipients, audiences can’t interact with the story. They are bystanders observing the happenings in the story.

Sometimes the audience can be “intruders” in the storytelling when the character in the story breaks the fourth wall and interacts with them.

Nowadays, some innovative solutions even allow people to comment and vote for character action decisions on social media, which gives them the power to influence the story.

But from a pure story standpoint, there is no story like Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland.

    Curious Alice VR

Author-reader Relationship of Alice in Wonderland

Because the story’s first-ever audience Alice Liddell is the main character.

This unique author-reader relationship is one of the reasons why the story is so engaging.

It all started on a beautiful afternoon in the late 19th century, where a young mathematician Lewis Carroll and three young ladies of the Liddell family went for a picnic on a boat.

As they rowed along the Thames, 10-year-old Alice Liddell asked Carroll for a story. To entertain the young ladies Carroll came up with the adventure of Alice.

The young girl was fascinated by the story and ask Carroll to write it down for her.

Accepting the request, Carroll added more details to the story and gave the manuscript to the young girl as a gift.

Carroll eventually published the book with the help of a prominent political cartoonist John Tenniel to illustrate the magical adventure of Alice.

For Alice Liddell, the book was not only a story but a tailored game – a game that each and every individual who reads the story can experience. Instead of being bystanders, the audiences can imagine themselves as Alice and go on their own adventures in Wonderland.

Alice Liddel of Alice in Wonderland

But, why imagine when you can become Alice in VR.

With the help of VR, VIVE Arts introduces the audiences to the strange and unusual world of Wonderland. Making it possible for the audiences to solve riddles and overcome challenges from a first-person perspective.

VIVE Arts welcome you to immersive yourselves in this adventurous story and unleash your creativity.

Let’s go back in time. Onboard the boat of Lewis Carroll and row along the Thames.

Let’s become Alice, follow the white rabbit and find its missing glove, solve the caterpillar’s mind-bending riddles, visit the Red Queen’s croquet garden, and compete in an unfair game with the Red Knights.

We are excited to have you experience more classic moments from Alice’s dream through VR.

  • What is Virtual Reality?

    What is Virtual Reality?

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

    What is Virtual Reality?

That’s a very good question, and one we’re sure many have been asking recently, as virtual reality technology continues to make its way into the daily conversation. The easiest definition of virtual reality can be boiled down to an experience, or series of experiences that use digitally synthesized 360-degree environments to trigger and respond to a user’s digital inputs, creating the illusion of a continuous reality. Kinda cool, isn’t it?

Well, those who have used virtual reality know it’s much more than that.

Virtual reality has been the catalyst and solution for many, many ideas and experiences that were once thought too difficult to make real. It has aided teachers in expanding students’ horizons, it’s become a new tool in helping doctors and therapists rehabilitate patients, it’s given designers the ultimate resource in realizing new ideas, and yes, perhaps it’s helped us to blow off some steam by hunting down some zombies, or jetting us into a futuristic, dystopian city, where only we have the power to save the world. Virtual reality is truly an unending adventure.

“What is Virtual Reality?” – The HTC VIVE Philosophy

We, at HTC VIVE take virtual reality very seriously. We understand the benefits VR can play as an educator, entertainer, historian, builder, healer, and well, just about anything one can dream. For us, virtual reality is a dynamic experience that removes the boundaries of the everyday for just a moment or two and offers a unique experience to everyone who puts on a headset. Plainly put, we want you to get into VR because we love VR and know what it can do. So, let’s get started on the basics. And if you have more questions, we’re always here.

Why Virtual Reality is Right For You

Virtual Reality offers something for everyone. Especially, in times like these where traveling and outside entertainment is less accessible than it was in the past, virtual reality can replicate many of those experiences. Travel to the top of Mt. Everest, learn more about the farthest reaches of the galaxy, watch movies in a whole new way, and more. The best part is, it’s accessible for the whole family.

So, What Do I Need to Know About Virtual Reality?

The best answer to that question is all you really need to know is that virtual reality is absolutely for you and is scalable depending on how you’d want to use it. Some key basics to know off the bat are some virtual reality devices require a computer to run, while other devices run by themselves, and each have their benefits. But before you get into that, we wanted to share with you some commonalities between the two to give you some cursory knowledge about VR. Three key factors that can help you navigate your “What is virtual reality?”

    You’ve Got the Look

Arguably, one of the most important features of virtual reality is screen resolution and visual fidelity. After all, the clearer you can see, the more you’ll allow yourself to be fully immersed in the experience. Original virtual reality headsets relied on bulky lenses and low-resolution pixels, making the whole experience somewhat blurry. However,  rapid advancements in OLED and Real RGB pixel technology now produce crisp visuals, offering incredibly realistic imagery, regardless of pixel. Some may say OLEDs produce better black, while Real RGB has more vivid colors, so it’s really a matter of preference. You also may have heard of virtual reality’s “screen door effect” which is due to the size of the headset screen pixels. The bigger the pixels in their grid pattern would give the illusion one was watching through a screen door. However, technology has found a way to pack smaller pixels, reducing the effect. For our VIVE Cosmos, we’ve nearly eliminated it all together.

    All the Right Moves

Now, seeing things in virtual reality is cool, but you don’t have to stop there. In fact, virtual reality is best when your movement isn’t limited by the headset. The most ubiquitous term for movement in VR is called “degrees of freedom.” Early VR kits were 3DoF, which stood for three degrees of freedom, meaning the headset would allow you to move your head up, down, and side-to-side, but restricted any more physical movement, like forward and backward. 6DoF, or six degrees of freedom, takes in the principles of 3DoF, but in addition allows users to move forward and backward, duck, and spin around (before those pesky zombies can grab you). Most virtual reality kits are now standard 6DoF and offer greater versatility than 3DoF. Unless your main goal with VR is watching 360-degree videos, which only require 3DoF, but we strongly suggest 6DoF.

I’ve Got My Virtual Reality Kit, Now What?

So, you’re feeling a little more confident in selecting a VR kit. Congratulations! But, what can exactly can you do with it? Well, simply put, anything you want! But, how do you find what to do with it? Now, that has an easy answer. There are marketplaces that have been created specifically to get you the most and coolest VR applications out there making sure you stay immersed in VR for as long as you want We even have one called Viveport Infinity, where for a small monthly fee you can try out the newest VR games, popular classics, 360-video, and more.

If we’ve whetted your appetite on your quest to learn “what is virtual reality?” feel free to visit us at VIVE.com to learn about our extensive family of virtual reality kits, or ask us a question or two on our social media channels. • Which VR Headset is Best for Your Business?

Which VR Headset is Best for Your Business?

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

You may be familiar with what VR can do in terms of gaming and immersive entertainment experiences. But, in addition to traveling to new worlds, battling zombies, and learning about other cultures, virtual reality has been an invaluable resource for the business community for many years. From engineering to research, to workplace training, and even customer experience, VR has helped to significantly evolve how businesses operate today. According to a poll commissioned by Grid Raster, nearly 91% of businesses surveyed have or plan to implement AR or VR technology. VR has made headway in nearly every industry, and it’s quite possible VR may have influenced your favorite product or service.

So, how does one even get started when evaluating VR opportunities for one’s business? Given the limitless opportunities and solutions VR offers, it can seem like a daunting challenge to find the best solution for your business. Well, the solution really depends on your needs. But, the best place to start may be with the headset, arguably the most important tool in the virtual reality arsenal.

HTC VIVE Pro Eye (PCVR) and VIVE Focus Plus (All-In-One) are terrific VR headsets for your business.

Both HTC VIVE Pro Eye and VIVE Focus Plus are terrific VR headsets for your business.

Not all headsets are built the same, and they can serve very different purposes. Two of the most popular and versatile types of headsets are the PC-based headset (PCVR) and the all-in-one headset. Essentially, PC-based VR headsets are attached to computers via cable (or wirelessly connected via wireless accessory), while standalone or all-in-one (AIO) headsets have all the necessary components housed within the body of the headset. Let’s give you the lowdown on each and how they may work for your business.

PCVR: A VR Headset with Top-End Specs, Precision Tracking, Connected VR

PCVR continues to be a popular choice due to its technical specs. Since the headset is connected to a PC, much of the effort is done by the various parts of the computer; the CPU for speed, the GPU for visual fidelity, and the power supply unit for power. So, in essence, the VR headset taps into the full capabilities of whatever computer it’s connected to offering the best visual fidelity, refresh rate, and rendering quality while enabling the headset to run the most immersive content.

The HTC VIVE Pro Eye is PC-based VR Headset designed to work with external computers to provide the best VR experience for your business.

PCVR headsets, like the VIVE Pro Eye connect with computers to produce the clearest visual fidelity, fast refresh rate, and the most precise tracking

But, what’s outside the PCVR headset is another feature that sets it apart from AIO headsets. PCVR leverages outside-in tracking, meaning the headset and controllers get their room spatial awareness by communicating with base stations that are attached to walls or ceilings. The base stations then help map the room and constantly communicate with the headset to offer the most precise tracking (but don’t worry, all data is stored locally and never shared). This is incredibly important when the VR experience requires precise design elements or multi-user training.

Given PCVR is tethered to a PC, and requires set up of base stations, it is best employed for longer-term solutions or in fixed places. Although, there are many businesses that have found transportable PCVR solutions for events, education, and trade shows.

All-In-One VR Headset: Portable, Versatile, Contained VR

The main differentiation with AIO headsets is the absence of any cables or external processing assistance, like a computer. Where PCVR is the host to the computer’s specs, AIO has a dedicated CPU, GPU, and power supply all tightly packed underneath its shell, and usually runs off a processor designed specifically for mobile VR. AIO also uses what’s called inside-out tracking, where the headset actually plays the role of the base stations, using the sensors and cameras on its face to understand its position relative to the boundaries the user has established during setup. (Note, some PCVR headsets like our VIVE Cosmos also support inside-out tracking).

AIO headsets also tend to be wi-fi enabled, providing a seamless experience to download new apps, browse the internet, or even broadcast what’s happening in the headset to a tablet or other mobile device.

The HTC VIVE Focus Plus is an advanced all-in-one (AIO) VR headset that is completely wireless, offering portability and versatility.

The HTC VIVE Focus Plus is an advanced all-in-one (AIO) VR headset that is completely wireless, offering portability and versatility.

The key benefit of the AIO headset is that it is completely wireless and portable, making it perfect for training, remote collaboration, rehabilitation at healthcare facilities, a unique presentation tool on the road, as well as many other valuable uses. Kiosk mode on the VIVE Focus Plus all-in-one VR headset enables businesses to limit access to apps and navigation and turn the Focus into a portable, powerful fixed-purpose device. With this user-friendly feature, trainees and clients can focus on only your enterprise apps.

VR Headsets Built to Suit Your Needs

As you can see VR is completely adaptable to just about any business need. At HTC VIVE, we understand the unique challenges businesses have, and in addition to offering both best-in-class PCVR and AIO VR headsets, we also offer complete business VR solutions with software and warranty services. • HTC VIVE Trackers: A Powerful VR Accessory that Can Bring More Reality into Virtual Reality

HTC VIVE Trackers: A Powerful VR Accessory that Can Bring More Reality into Virtual Reality

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

There has always been the desire to better connect virtual reality with actual reality, and within that desire most noticeably how to bring more from the real-world in. After all, the goal of VR is to make users feel completely immersed in an experience, and if some part of that experience is lacking then it’s harder to let oneself fully embrace the technology. Of course, it all starts with a headset and controllers, but both developers and consumers continue to demand more tools to fully realize their ideas on what VR should be.

This is where HTC VIVE Trackers play a tremendous role in amplifying VR experience. Think of VIVE Trackers as little pucks that work in concert with VR headsets to offer a greater opportunity to bring elements of the real world into the virtual world. What do we mean? Take for instance, you love to play tennis. So much so, that you recently downloaded a tennis training app to take your playing to the next level. But, holding a controller just doesn’t feel the same as the grip on your favorite racket. Well, a VIVE Tracker connected to a racket accessory, now places an actual racket in your hand in the game! Now, you can feel more comfortable as you smash that overhand serve past your virtual opponent.

But, VIVE Trackers do so much more than just helping you with your tennis game. They are also an invaluable tool in providing developers and content creators more unique and powerful ways to bring their ideas to life. In fact, VIVE Trackers have been a popular resource for years now, providing that crucial bridge from reality to virtual reality and the other way around. And, what’s neat about VIVE Trackers is their versatility, meaning sometimes you don’t even need a headset to use them to make your masterpiece.

Take, Blackfish Studio, a Polish technology film studio, who saw the need for more dynamic camera angles for their animated content project for GoPay. Instead of just locking down a camera and filming actors, they wanted to bring the viewer in on all the action and dynamism of the footage. In order to achieve that effect, Blackfish attached a VIVE Tracker to their camera and leveraged specific production software, essentially connecting the camera to virtual space making the viewer feel like they were along for the heart-pounding ride. In the “making of” video here you can see how the camera’s view moves within the virtual space, adding a very dramatic effect that keeps the viewer on their toes.

Of course, gaming accessories and production are just the tip of the iceberg in demonstrating the power and capability of VIVE Trackers. In the coming weeks, we will continue to bring you examples of the limitless opportunities these nifty little devices can provide. • Take a Look at the HTC VIVE Cosmos and Let Your Imagination Soar with Immersive Virtual Reality Magic

Take a Look at the HTC VIVE Cosmos and Let Your Imagination Soar with Immersive Virtual Reality Magic

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The imagination is a powerful tool. Imagination can be the catalyst for new ideas, it can be the bridge to new worlds and experiences. It can be a beacon of inspiration and action. Imagination is unique while at the same time shared by all. Most importantly, imagination is an owned and sacred trait. But, what if you want others to share in your imagination? What if others want you to experience their imagination?

How can you take something so vivid in your mind and make it real for others?

Well, that was a core question that drove the development of HTC VIVE. A group of passionate individuals who all asked the same question, “How do we make imagination real?” With the goal of making imagination real, HTC VIVE was born as we set upon creating tangible experiences from the dreams and ideas of developers, artists, tinkerers, movie makers, and so many more.

Five years later, that question is still at the foundation of every VR device we develop. Though now, through the advancement of technology, we’ve been able to diversify our VR lineup to meet the specific needs of individuals and their imaginations. We have VR solutions that help scientists splice the atom, ones that help map the universe, we have virtual reality kits that bring the rest of the world to students who have never traveled outside their villages; and yes, we even have ones that put you face to face with a horde of angry zombies. But, if you’re new to VR how do you know which kit is right for you and your imagination?

We’d like to introduce you to VIVE Cosmos, our most versatile headset to date. VIVE Cosmos is packed with the most advanced virtual reality technology, yet easy enough to just pop on and let your imagination run wild. In fact, if you ever need a break from your imagination, just flip up the front to take a breather. But, VIVE Cosmos doesn’t just have to be for you, its ergonomic fit and halo design means it can be easily shared with friends and family, so you can have them share in the experience of what fuels your imagination. And, due to its versatility, VIVE Cosmos can offer a host of immersive experiences, from casual gaming to productivity, to videos; VIVE Cosmos is a tremendous first step into the world of VR.

As powerful and versatile was when it first launched, VIVE Cosmos continues to grow and offer more immersive experiences through our periodic updates, ensuring you will always be on the forefront of virtual reality technology and have a seamless experience.

    • VIVE Cosmos will soon be receiving an upgrade to DirectX 12 for Nvidia GPUs and while that may not mean much, it gives your computer’s CPU an average of 15-20% improvement; now you can fly through the universe even faster.

    • But, that was only the start. Latency, the process at which your movement in real-life transfers to movement in your headset is very important – you don’t want you disconnected from reality for the wrong reasons – so we optimized frame timings offering 10% better latency.
    • We also know the hallmark of a great VR experience is in the details, so we refactored our runtime which improves your computer’s graphics processing by 10%, allowing you to see every detail.
    • Lastly, we want you to be safe while your imagination is whisked away to a far-off realm, so we created a new chaperone to passthrough behavior in order to reduce interruptions, but still keep you safe.
    • In addition to the great features mentioned above, if you find yourself in the mood to tinker, we will soon be releasing beta access to OpenXR, offering you an opportunity to let your imagination turn to action. OpenXR support will also be coming to VIVE Wave later this year. Check out our social media channels for more information as it becomes available.

As the real cosmos is seemingly unending, we are also continuing to improve upon the already (inter)stellar features of the VIVE Cosmos, ensuring your imagination never goes uninterrupted. If you would like to learn more about VIVE Cosmos, check more details here https://www.vive.com/cosmos.
