[DEAL] Monoprice 3D Printers – up to $200 Off

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

US electronics retailer Monoprice has chopped up to $200 off the price of some of its 3D printers — including the Maker Ultimate, the company’s rebadging of the heavy hitting Wanhao D6.

Not content to sit back and ship stuff at full price, Monoprice has once again cut the prices of its 3D printer offerings. We suspect it’s a measure to clear stock ahead of the incoming wave of new machines announced at the Consumer Electronics Show back in January.

Whatever the reason, we’re not ones to complain at cut price printers. Especially so when said cut prices include $200 off the rather good Maker Ultimate. If you’ve ever fancied a 3D printer that looks like a Zortrax, feels like an Ultimaker, has the build of a battle tank and is pennies to the dollar cheaper than them all, the Ultimate is probably your thing.

Here’s the skinny on what Monoprice is offering.

Monoprice is putting a limit on these deals, with the limit one code per order (not combinable with other codes and discounts). Each code good for three uses per customer.

  • Monoprice Reveals Multiple New 3D Printers at CES

Monoprice Reveals Multiple New 3D Printers at CES

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

US electronics retailer Monoprice has revealed details about multiple new 3D printers it will be adding to its lineup in 2018. Headlining the new crew is the Monoprice Delta Pro.

They say when it rains, it pours. So grab an umbrella, because Monoprice has brought a deluge of new 3D printers to the Consumer Electronics Show for us to feast our eyes on.

Alongside the likes of smart plugs, Thunderbolt docking stations and other home and office peripherals, the electronics retailer unveiled the MP Delta Pro, the MP Select Mini V3 and UV resin 3D printers.

Notice that little “s” at the end there? That’s right, Monoprice are bringing not one, but two SLA/DLP 3D printers out this year, which marks a step change over the brand’s up-to-now exclusively FDM offerings.

Despite this exciting revelation, the company cites the Delta Pro as the highlight of its show.

    CES Keeps on Giving

In a release, Monoprice states the Delta Pro has a 270 x 320mm build volume, silent drivers, touchscreen, auto bed leveling and Wifi connectivity.

Further to this, a spec sheet sent to All3DP confirms the Delta Pro will also come with a brass 0.4mm nozzle on a hot end operating between 160 – 270 degrees Celsius and will be capable of layer resolutions as fine as 0.05mm.

The Delta Pro will also feature a heated bed with an operational range of 50 – 110 degrees Celsius.

Perhaps most intriguing for us is the addition of resin-based 3D printers to the Monoprice lineup. In an image of the new machines lined at CES, we see a large and small machine. The smaller of the two appears to be a rebadge of the Wanhao D7 plus.

Wanhao’s D7 plus is a DLP 3D printer capable of 0.004mm layer heights, with a print volume of 121 x 69 x 180mm. We expect Monoprice’s version to mirror this. Pictured alongside is a much larger resin machine that we don’t recognize or have further details on.

In addition the company unveiled a version upgrade of its popular Select Mini 3D printer. It now packs an auto-leveling bed and touchscreen display.  Not mentioned in the release is the news that the Maker Select will also see an upgrade to version 3, too.

A busy start to the year for Monoprice then. We’re looking forward to bringing you our full impressions of the new machines later in the year.

  • Monoprice Select Mini – 7 Tips for Better Prints

Monoprice Select Mini – 7 Tips for Better Prints

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Two weeks of use with the Monoprice, you may find that the extruder nozzle gets clogged. This is very easy to fix, however. All you need to do is remove the nozzle and soak it in acetone for several days. To remove the nozzle; first, make sure any filament is out of the printer, then heat the printer up to 200 degrees. Once the printer is heated, twist off the nozzle with pliers.

Once you’ve finished soaking the nozzle, dry it and then twist it back on (you do not need to heat the printer to reattach the nozzle). Lastly, relevel the bed.

It is highly recommended to buy an extra nozzle to use while cleaning the old one. You can get them here or at Amazon. Note that the nozzle in the first link is .35 mm, while the old one was 4 mm; it’s fairly simple to adjust this in Cura.

A clogged nozzle will result in the printer making a “thump” noise every fifteen seconds, and the filament will come out at a lesser flow. You can tell if you have a clog by extruding filament from the move menu while heated up. If it curls, you have a clog.

  • Best 3D Printer Awards 2017 / 2018 – The 12 Best 3D Printers

    Best 3D Printer Awards 2017 / 2018 – The 12 Best 3D Printers

How to buy the best 3D printer

Selecting the best 3D printer for your needs is not an easy task. We want to make the process it a little bit easier with All3DP’s Best 3D Printer Awards.

Finding the Best 3D Printer for Beginners

If you are a newcomer to 3D printing, things can get overwhelming. Specifications and terminology may sound gibberish and intimidating. So you best resort to a dedicated 3D printer for beginners, right? Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. There are four traps you can fall into.

    1. There are some 3D printers on the market that claim to be “best 3D printers for beginners”. While they come prebuilt, you will pay extra by paying for overpriced filament, get frustrated with poor build quality, and get dubious printing results. To avoid this, better check some independent reviews the chosen model.

    2. Don’t buy too cheap. When looking for the best 3D printer for your money, the worst thing you can do is to waste it on a cheap, untested no-name 3D printer. Don’t get us wrong, we don‘t want to talk you into spending more of your hard earned money – but there’s a huge difference between a „best cheap 3D printer“ and the best cheap 3D printer. Again, reviews matter to get the best 3D printer available.

    3. Also, there’s a legion of the Prusa i3 clones. They come in different brands, variations, and fittings. While some are actually really good, others offer inferior quality and are way too complicated to handle. Most of the Prusa clones come as a kit, which complicates things. If you want to go for one, make sure the machine has a good, readable documentation and an active community, so you have someone to ask if you are running into trouble.

    4. So why not buy a 3D printer on Kickstarter? In our opinion, Kickstarter and Indiegogo are not the best places to buy 3D printers. You can get ripped off intentionally (like with the $99 “Peachy Printer“), leave empty-handed (like with the “Tiko 3D“) or get your printer much later than promised (which happens to most Kickstarter projects).

After so much advice, we recommend you to take a look at the categories “Best 3D Printer under $250“, “Best 3D Printer under $500“, and — of course — “Best 3D Printer for Beginners” of All3DP’s Best 3D Printer Awards. Surely, you’ll find the best 3D printer for you in these categories.

Finding the Best 3D Printer for Makers

If you consider yourself a tinkerer or maker who wants to tap into 3D printing, you won’t need the most expensive and flashy model available on the market.
The good part is that you can save a significant sum by buying a 3D printer kit. You’ll also learn a lot by assembling the machine yourself.

The market for the 3D printing hobbyist is heavily populated, so you have a great choice of machines to choose from. The most difficult part is finding the best 3D printer for your needs.

If you want to make sure to get the best 3D printer, we recommend you take a look at the categories „Best 3D Printer for Beginners“, „Best 3D Printer Under $250“ and „Best 3D Printer Under $500“. These will give you the best bang for the buck.

Finding the Best 3D Printer for Enthusiasts

If you are already experienced in 3D printing and consider yourself a 3D printing enthusiast, you already have an opinion on the best 3D printer brands and their machines. You need some alternatives, not general advice.

The categories „Best 3D Printer“, „Best 3D Printer Under $500“, „Best 3D Printer Under $1000“, „Best 3D Printer Kit“, „Best Workhorse 3D Printer“ and „Editor’s Choice“ are most likely to meet your needs.

The Best 3D Printers for Professional Use

If you are a professional that just wants to get the job done by 3D printing, you don’t care too much about brands. You need your prototype without having to tweak dubious settings. You need a 3D printer something that works out of the box, that gives you hassle-free and reliable results. Also, the materials you can print on matter to you.

If you feel you belong in this category, please check the „Best 3D Printer“ and „Best Workhorse 3D Printer“. If you need high-quality details, you should also check our award for „Best SLA 3D Printer“.
