    Take-Two has announced that Grand Theft Auto V generated approximately $800 million in sales worldwide during its first 24 hours on sale.

    According to them, this is the „highest first day retail sales of any title in the history of the company and the Grand Theft Auto series.”

    The publisher noted that the figure includes sales across both platforms in all territories, but added that GTA 5 has not yet launched in Japan or Brazil.

     

    „All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

    “Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence. Beginning at midnight on Monday, consumers around the world gathered in anticipation to be among the first to experience the evolution of this remarkable series. In North America alone, more than 8,300 stores opened their doors at midnight to welcome fans whose loyalty and enthusiasm were rewarded with what The New York Times called ‚the most immersive spectacle in interactive entertainment‘. We are incredibly proud of Rockstar Games‘ creative achievement and could not be more pleased with the success of this launch.“

    Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 currently holds the record as the entertainment release that was the quickest to reach the $1 billion mark: last November, Black Ops 2 grossed $1 billion within 15 days of launch, one day faster than 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and two days faster than the 2009 film Avatar. GTA V will probably „smash“ that record soon.

    Apple’s iOS 6 has undoubtedly served us well over the last 12 months. After a relatively rocky start amid the Maps controversy, it has managed to claw its way into our affections thanks to a number of bug fixing updates and has managed to prove extremely stable ever since. Still, everything has a shelf life, and when Scott Forstall parted from Apple, it signaled the end of his reign over the design and implementation of iOS. Jony Ive’s vision of iOS is definitely polarizing, but it represents a new beginning for Apple’s mobile OS.

    The firmware update will be available to all users with a compatible iOS device. iPhone owners using an iPhone 4, 4s or 5 will be able to grab hold of the new firmware for their devices, although some restrictions do apply to the iPhone 4 and 4s in terms of features. Owners of the second-generation iPad and above can also go through an OTA or iTunes download route with the same restrictions on older, less powerful tablets. The only iPod touch that is currently supported is the fifth-generation model.

    Grand Theft Auto V developers Rockstar have included Elton John, Queen and Rihanna on the soundtrack to the forthcoming game.

    Elton John and Queen are among a number of artists who will appear on the soundtrack to the new Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game.

    Other bands and singers who will be on the game’s soundtrack include Britney Spears, Pulp, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder, Black Flag, Pet Shop Boys, NWA and Muse. The game’s opening theme music was also leaked.

    Grand Theft Auto V is out on Tuesday, with many shops opening at midnight to serve keen fans.

    Am 27. September eröffnet die Game City zum siebten Mal in Folge ihre Pforten und enthüllt eine aufregende Welt der digitalen Unterhaltung. Das Wiener Rathaus wird erneut in die Must-Go Location für alle Spielefans in Österreich verwandelt, wo Jung und Alt brandneue Titel anspielen, die neue Konsolen-Generation kennenlernen und viel Spaß haben können! Die Game City findet heuer von Freitag 27. September bis Sonntag 29. September statt.

    Xbox ist natürlich auch mit dabei und wird mit einem abwechslungsreichen Angebot dafür sorgen, daß jeder Besucher auf seine Kosten kommt! Auch einige Blockbuster aus dem starken Spiele-Lineup, das zum Launch der neuen Konsole auf den Markt kommt, sind auf der Game City vertreten.

     

    Die atemberaubende Rennspiel-Serie FORZA MOTORSPORT geht ebenfalls am 22. November mit seinem fünften Teil an den Start – exklusiv für Xbox One! Wer aber nicht so lange warten will, sondern schon im September ein paar Runden auf den brandneuen Strecken drehen möchte, hat auf der Game City bereits die Chance dazu. Zudem wird der neue Blockbuster RYSE: SON OF ROME, ebenso ein Xbox One Launch-Titel, zum ersten Mal in Österreich anspielbar sein und die Besucher der Game City in die actiongeladene Welt der Gladiatoren des römischen Reiches versetzen. Mit dem kommenden Titel KINECT SPORTS: RIVALS für Xbox One zeigt der neue Kinect-Sensor sein Können. Ohne Controller, dafür mit viel Körpereinsatz können sich die Spieler in den sportlichen Wettkampf stürzen.     Don’t Install Grand Theft Auto V’s Xbox 360 „Play“ Disc

    Rockstar has advised Xbox 360 owners not to install Grand Theft Auto V’s play disc, as it’ll negatively impact performance.

    The Rockstar Support twitter explains, „For optimal performance, we recommend not installing that disc. We will have more info on our Support Site at launch.“

    Grand Theft Auto V comes on two 8GB discs on Xbox 360; the first is a mandatory „install“ disc, while the second is the „play“ disc. While you’ll have to install the former (as you might have guessed), the studio has warned against trying to do the same for the latter as it’ll negatively impact how the game runs.

However, there’s good news for Google’s guinea pigs: the latest update to the headgear quietly implemented a way around the additional monthly fees.

    With XE9 loaded onto headsets, the companion Android app pipes data to and from the hardware, bypassing both the smartphone’s Bluetooth tethering settings and extra plan previously needed from some carriers.

     

    To match the change, the application’s notification icon sports two arrows to signify the flow of info.

    We doubt telcos will be fazed by this development for now, but we don’t know if that’ll hold once Glass arrives on shelves and hits the streets en masse. We’ve contacted Google to find out if the feature will make it to retail units.

    That’s right, Amazon.co.uk reportedly broke the street-date for Grand Theft Auto V, with many players who pre-ordered the game getting it this weekend, ahead of its global release date on Tuesday.

    Now, it looks like Rockstar is currently investigating this, and issued the following statement:

    „We are in the process of investigating early ’sales‘ to determine how and why that is occurring.“

    Apparently, Rockstar placed strict guidelines on the sale of GTA V, having requested that online retailers do not dispatch copies until the day before release. So, it isn’t yet known how the publisher will react and/or if it will penalise Amazon for dispatching copies to customers early.

    GTA V launches *officially* this Tuesday, September 17, with a PSN preload due to go live today…

    Researchers at Cornell University and Germany’s University of Ulm discovered the world’s thinnest sheet of glass by accident while attempting to manufacture graphene. That’s right, the researchers noticed „what they called ‚muck‘ on the substance they were attempting to create, so they took a closer look.“

    That look revealed something that wasn’t supposed to be there, something that had never before existed (at least, not to our knowledge). But thanks to a small air leak in their equipment, there was glass – glass that’s two atoms thick, making it the thinnest glass known to man.

    In 1932 a physicist named William Houlder attempted to map out the arrangement of glass molecules, and though he came close, he never managed to pull it off. Yet this laboratory accident has allowed researchers to produce the exact arrangement of the atoms in glass via electron microscopy.

    They called the video series ‚A fly on the wall in Cupertino‘, and poked fun at Apple’s design process for the iPhone 5s and 5c, showing satirical Apple product review meetings where two „employees“ attempt to pitch various features of the new phones to actors intended to resemble Apple CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President of Design Jony Ive…

    Their list of pretentious colours, including ‚vermillion‘, ‚chartreuse‘, and ‚robins egg‘, is a dig at the new range of multi-coloured iPhones – and Apple’s notoriously ‚trendy‘ image.

    Colours aside, they took aim at every element of the controversial new design, including the fingerprint reader and megapixel camera.

    At one point, the actress hands a piece of A4 paper to ‚T‘ (Tim Cook): ‚Feel how light that is. You know how we did that? Megapixels – got them down to eight.‘

    Picking apart Mr Cook’s speech at the launch on Wednesday, the actors make fun of phrases such as ‚the gold standard‘ and ‚unapologetically plastic‘.

    It opens with one of the colour-coordinated ‚ideas people‘ poking fun at the iWatch, which is still yet to hit the market after numerous mentions.

    The actor says: ‚Sorry we’re late. My iWatch had to go back to R&D [research and development].‘

    He proceeds to suggest random colours, with a flourish of his wrist, for the CEO to think about – while his colleague ‚translates‘ them into layman’s terms:

    ‚Vermillion, do you feel me?‘ ‚Pink.‘

    ‚Chartreuse‘ ‚Green.‘

    ‚Robin’s egg blue‘ ‚Blue.‘

    The actress also translates ‚yeah bro‘ to ‚yes‘, and ’nah brah‘ to ’no‘.

    He continues to mock how the model falls short of its description: ‚You asked us to make the gold standard of iPhone. It turns out that is super hard.

    ‚We made you an iPhone which is the colour gold‘.

     

    The videos end showing a ‚#timetoswtich‘ hashtag.

    So yes, Microsoft has since pulled off the videos from YouTube, releasing the following statement:

    „The video was intended to be a light-hearted poke at our friends from Cupertino. But it was off the mark, and we’ve decided to pull it down.“
