    FIFA 14 is out on September 24th in North America, but the next-gen releases won’t hit until November, as it’s also an XBOX One and PS4 launch title.

    So, if you pick up the game for current gen but want to continue the experience on the next generation consoles, take a look at the incentives EA is offering:

      

    Microsoft Offers

    • GameStop – Purchase FIFA 14 within the first 30 days of release and receive a $50 trade-in credit when you upgrade to the Xbox One version.

    • Best Buy – Purchase FIFA 14 on Xbox 360 before October 26, and get a Best Buy gift card with a minimum $40 value when you trade it in and purchase FIFA 14 on Xbox One before December 31.

    Nothing has been confirmed, but an alleged Pastebin file containing an XML of the config file for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto V shows the following (this was spotted at Reddit):

    That’s right, you can clearly see PC and „Orbis“ in there. And, if you are wondering why build code for the PC and PS4 versions would be in an Xbox 360 config file, well…

    …A few other games also had similar config files in their SDK with multiple configurations for different platforms, including Borderlands, Unreal Tournament 3 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2 just to name a few. Heck, there are even PS3 and Xbox 360 configuration settings for APB: Reloaded if you bother to look through the data folders.

    To better explain this for newbies: Most developers build games around a general code base and configure the game’s specifications per platform within an single config file, as opposed to building new code or separate config files for each and every platform. The only time the code will drastically changed is when a mobile or portable port is involved.

    As for the 360 config file… the different pool sizes you see roughly relates to how much of ‚X‘ will be stored in memory based on platform specifications. Most of every AAA multiplatform game has a file like this to scale texture, draw distance, particle effects or actor data to each platform.

    As you’ll notice, there are specifications for the Xbox 360, PC, PS3 and Orbis, or the PlayStation 4 (viz., the Orbis is the name of the PS4’s operating system when working with the dev kit).

    Here we see reproduced the Retron 3 , the only console of its kind that allows you to play all the titles cartridge consoles NES , SuperNes , Genesis , Super Famicom and Megadrive.

     

    The new version will include support for the cartridges of the Gameboy , Gameboy Color andGameboy Advance, its name was originally set up as Retron 4,  but given the chance to put an extra slot in the house more  Hyperkin has decided to add support for the Famicom (without the use of adapters).

    Retron5 pre-orders have finally (about damn time) opened. Amazon seems to be the only place taking pre-orders. Hyperkin hasn’t announced an official release date yet, although Amazon lists October 31. They are taking pre-orders for both the black and grey models of the console.

    For those of you who have been following this console, you know it’s quite highly anticipated and looks to be far better than any clone system released before.

    For those unfamiliar, here’s a little info:

    • It’s one system that plays games for the following systems: NES, SNES, Genesis, Mega Drive, Famicom, Super Famicom, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.

    • Two controller ports for each console will be built in with the system. It will also come with one wireless universal controller.

    • Outputs in HDMI and upscales for HDTVs. Early impressions and videos of this have been extremley postive. From the website: “The RetroN 5 will up convert the video signal to show clearer and cleaner images, with vibrant colors on an HDTV with a resolution output of up to 720p through the use of shaders. You will also be able to select the aspect ratio in our GUI, from the standard 4:3 to the HD ratio of 16:9.”

    • Features a user interface (dashboard. Somewhat similar of the PS3 interface in appearance, in my opinion).

    • Features save states. From the website: “Most games did not allow for you to freely save your games. The RetroN 5 will allow you to save their games at any point during gameplay, and will feature an autosave feature upon shutdown. You will be able to load your saves at anytime during gameplay.”

    • Button reassignment supported. From the website: “Users will be able to program the controller to assign buttons to their preference. In turn, the RetroN 5 will save these custom layouts, so that users will not have to constantly reconfigure the button configuration. This feature will also be available to people wanting to remap their buttons on their original controllers.”

    • 100% game cartridge compatibility, without lag.

    I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time, and i’m extremley excited that pre-orders are finally open. For one console that not only plays all of these console’s games, but upscales them and features save states (either to the cartridge (if supported) or the console itself)…this seems like a great deal. And if you’ve been following the hype for the console, there is a good chance it could end up selling out. Hyperkin isn’t a huge company and this thing has a TON of pre-release demand (just check out the comments on the facebook page). I like the look of the black one a bit better, because it seems to be the traditional console color nowadays. But I opted for the grey model because the black console and controller seem like they’d be fingerprint magnets.

    We feel a bit silly for worrying about PlayStation 4 launch game DriveClub now. Runcorn-based developer Evolution Studios has once again done what it does best, and polished the racer to a remarkable degree on the home straight ahead of release. As a result, we’re not especially surprised by the gorgeous gameplay footage embedded below.

    There are a few glitches, but as community manager Jamie Brayshaw explained on the PlayStation Blog, the title’s improving by the day. “While there are lots of impressive details on show, you may also spot some things that we’re still working on – like improving the anti-aliasing for certain assets and making sure that nothing pops in to view,” he said.

     

    The day-to-night transition which this raw capture showcases is sped up for demonstrative purposes, but you’ll be able to set those parameters for yourself. You’ll also be able to tweak cloud cover, fog density, and more. Oh, and as for the track, it’s based in Chile. That’s not a bad backdrop for a late evening drive, huh?

    In an interview with FamitsuKazunori Yamauchi said that „Gran Turismo 7“ is already in the works at Polyphony Digital, and it should be out in „a year or two“ on the upcoming PS4:

    “The PlayStation 4 game which we’ll likely call GT7 will be done in about a year or two, I think, and I think the community aspect’s going to be vital there as well.”

    So, the full-on sequel could be ready sooner than series fans might expect.

    Yamauchi also added that while the PS4 is obviously more powerful, the extra power didn’t excite him as much as it could because the PS3 „is still really capable“…

    “The PlayStation 4′s large memory size is a unique trait but in terms of CPU performance, the PS3′s Cell chip, while difficult to handle, is really capable. They both have different advantages. Besides, I think the online community aspect, one of the most fun parts of GT, doesn’t have anything to do with the platform.”

    If somehow you got your hands on Grand Theft Auto V early, by grabbing one from store breaking the ’street date‘ or cough even worse downloading the two-discs online from an underground warez site, then you better think twice of playing it early, as reports are coming in of Microsoft banning not just the console but also the ‚gamertag‘ as well.

    „This console has been banned for violations of terms of service. To protect the Xbox Live service and its members, Microsoft does not provide details about console bans. There is no recourse for terms of service violations.“

    Plus Rockstar is of course busy taking down all videos posted on sharing sites like YouTube in regard to early gameplay of GTAV.

    „Pre-Release Footage: No pre-release leaked footage of any kind: Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained. This includes „early unboxing“ videos.“

    Lucky for those owning PlayStation 3 consoles, there is NO reports yet of any PlayStation ‚banhammer‘ action for those with legit blu-ray versions, or the recently leaked Duplex scene release.

    The best video yet was the ‚uncensored‘ sex scene action, this has caused the most outcry on the ’net, and good old FoxNews will be covering in-depth on Monday the ‚problem’of GTAV, so stay tuned for that news item, in the meantime check out this one dude’s reaction to it.

    ‚The real differences between PS4 and Xbox One performance‘

    According to EDGE, and citing „multiple high-level game development sources“, the PS4 is currently „around 50 per cent faster“ than the Xbox One.

    As you may know, the „50% faster“ rumors have been circulating for a while now, but just earlier this week, Microsoft offered more comparisons between the consoles, basically denying those claims.

    Now again, EDGE seems to confirm the huge difference in performance between the consoles, calling it „significant“ and „obvious“. However, their sources also go to note that -despite the gulf in speed- „the differences between cross platform launch window games will be negligible“.

    Well, here’s the report:

    Our contacts have told us that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer.

    Microsoft is aware of the problem and, having recently upped the clock speed of Xbox One, is working hard to close the gap on PS4, though one developer we spoke to downplayed the move. “The clock speed update is not significant, it does not change things that much,” he said. “Of course, something is better than nothing.”

    Even this close to launch, “the hardware isn’t locked,” said another source. Sony and Microsoft are each still working on the graphics drivers for each console, and Xbox One is lagging behind in this regard – Microsoft “has been late on their drivers and that has been hurting them,” said one source. Another described Xbox One’s graphics drivers less charitably as “horrible”. Both consoles’ graphics drivers will continue to improve right up to – and beyond – launch, which will even up the difference in performance a little.

    Xbox One does, however, boast superior performance to PS4 in other ways. “Let’s say you are using procedural generation or raytracing via parametric surfaces – that is, using a lot of memory writes and not much texturing or ALU – Xbox One will be likely be faster,” said one developer.

    Both platform holders are, of course, encouraging developers to take advantage of each console’s unique features (the DualShock 4’s touch pad and Kinect, for example) but there’s little enthusiasm for either among the developers we spoke to. “They really want us to make use of platform specific stuff to give their version a leg up over the other,” said one source. “But unless there’s a good design reason or incentive we rarely do.”

    Indeed, despite that gulf in speed, the differences between cross platform launch window games will be negligible; with tight deadlines to meet, it’s more expedient for developers to deliberately create near-identical versions.

    “The poor [graphics] drivers have made it difficult to push either of them, and the developers aren’t familiar with the hardware yet,“ said one source. Another stated that we’ll begin to see far greater use of each platform’s unique features once we’re past the first wave of releases, when developers have more time and experience with each console’s quirks.

    One source even suggested that enforcing parity across consoles could become a political issue between platform holders, developers and publishers. They said that it could damage perceptions of a cross platform title, not to mention Xbox One, if the PS4 version shipped with an obviously superior resolution and framerate; better to “castrate” the PS4 version and release near-identical games to avoid ruffling any feathers.

    This claim was later countered by a contact at a different studio. “It would be totally fine for us to make one version prettier without any political difficulties but it usually doesn’t make financial sense,” they said, “unless it’s a very simple tweak.”

    The difference between cross platform launch window games will be small, and improved graphics drivers plus the power of the cloud might yet tip the balance in Xbox One’s favour. Nonetheless, at launch, PS4 will be the more capable console.

    Yesterday, we were informing our Maxconsole readers about a possible Final Fantasy Agito/Type-0 for iOS and Android.

    Today, we can confirm that it is real as Square Enix has revealed more details alongside with a trailer of it.

    The game will be free to play with microtransactions and is expected to release this Winter.

    According to Gematsu:

    Square Enix announced Final Fantasy Agito, a mobile adaption to Final Fantasy Type-0 in this week’s issue of Famitsu.

    • You can make and edit your own cadet character.

    • The graphics are even prettier than the PSP version.

    • The system is unclear, however Moogles are connected.

    • You can handle missions using time recovering “action power.”

    • The story will change depending on votes.

    • It’ll have a high speed battle system, maybe with commands?

    • Also in this system, getting along well with certain cadets will make them watch out for you in battle.

    Game Boy City” is an animated short between 3D and retro-gaming directed by What Pixel You On, with music by FantomenK.

    The first „3D“ pixel art animation from What Pixel You On. It’s a little rough around the edges, but if I didn’t upload it now, I don’t think I ever would have. Can you spot the Keith Apicary references? Enjoy! :]
