Man strips sleeping wife on PS4 Twitch stream

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

That’s right, people are now doing „shows“ via The Playroom on PS4 and streaming them onTwitch; and well, it looks like one user -nicknamed ‚Darckobra‘- went too far…

While on the live stream, he exposed his sleeping (and drunk) wife’s breast, and after that he stripped her completely. ‚Darckobra‘ was banned later, of course.

    icon_xl (4)

Here’s the report by Game Revolution:

Nearly overnight, the PS4’s easy linking with Twitch has made a few people stars of the internet. One married couple started up „The Spartan Show“ and held a raffle for their PS3, and got so much attention that Sony’s own Adam Boyes called in. Less successful and generally less awesome is Samurai400, pictured above, who did a variety of uninteresting… um… God knows what, for several hours.

And then there’s Darckobra. He and his wife sat on a couch drinking, and drinking, and drinking. Eventually, the wife passed out. So the man did what any man deserving of divorce papers would do: he showed the internet some breast — and not his own. Yes, live on Twitch TV, via The Playroom on PS4, a man lifted up his unconscious wife’s shirt and exposed her breast. After 15 or 16 post-boob minutes, the channel went dark briefly; upon its return, the wife was completely naked, presumably stripped by the husband.

Twitch eventually banned Darckobra, but not before he — potentially — changed the whole landscape of this streaming situation. If things like this continue, and especially if they continue to be lumped in association with Sony, you better believe that features will be re-examined, modified, and possibly even removed. No company wants to be associated with this kind of thing, and measures will be taken to add distance.

Don’t expect any changes overnight, but you can bet that people in suits will very soon be sitting in meetings talking about how to handle things like this going forward.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

It looks like Europe is getting a PlayStation 4 and PS Vita bundle -called the ‘Ultimate Bundle’- this Holiday.

    icon_xl (7)

A price for the PS4/PS Vita bundle was not mentioned. The PS4 retails for $400, while the PS Vita currently sells for $200, making a price point for the bundle in the mid-$500 range likely.

In the UK at least, Sony will also run a £2.5 million TV campaign for the PS Vita this holiday called „The Best Way to Play.“ The advertisement will reportedly promote Remote Play and Media Molecule’s adventure game Tearaway.

  • Polygon caught ‚lying‘ about PS4 on their Xbox One stream

Polygon caught ‚lying‘ about PS4 on their Xbox One stream

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

As spotted by Jeremy Conrad from ‚Furious Fanboys‘, gaming site Polygon was ‚lying‘ about the use of TV remotes on a PS4 on their Xbox One stream today.

They said the PS4 “does not use remotes at all”, when mentioning an advantage that theXbox One has over Sony’s console.

However, you can actually use any TV remote with the PS4, as long as your TV supports HDMI-CEC.

    Here’s the Furious Fanboys article:

This morning, gaming site Polygon is doing a twelve-hour live stream showing off the Xbox One. Right before the comical demo of Dead Rising 3, where most of the voice commands didn’t seem to work and they couldn’t even snap Internet Explorer correctly, a panel of editors discussed the system that the site seems to be carrying so much water for.

During this panel, site Editor-in-Chief Chris Grant stated a couple times that one advantage the Xbox One has over the PS4 is that the Xbox One supports remote controls and the PS4 does not. He even used the example that mom would want to use the Xbox One over the PS4 because she wouldn’t want to use the Dual Shock 4 to watch a movie. Later, he used the example of Netflix on how the Xbox One is a superior choice over the PS4 for Netflix because of remote support.

You can see the first statement about remotes at the 5:30 mark in this clip. A direct quote, about the PS4, is “it does not use remotes at all”. The Netflix comment is at the end.

The problem with these statements is that they are lies.

The PlayStation 4, like the Slim PS3 before it, fully supports HDMI-CEC controls. While every TV manufacturer calls it something different, virtually every major television that is relatively recent supports it. Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, LG, Hitachi, Toshiba, Philips, and component manufacturers like Onkyo all support this Consumer Electronics Control feature of HDMI. Due to HDMI-CEC, you can use your normal television remote control to operate the PS4.

While the Xbox One does support an IR-Blaster, most devices have moved away from that because HDMI-CEC is simply more convenient due to being able to use your normal TV remote for control.

I even made a video to demonstrate this:

    (WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW)

Of course, I then tweeted this video to Chris Grant wanting to know why he decided to lie to viewers about the PS4:

Naturally, after being pointed out how wrong he was and how he was indeed lying to his readers, he blocked me:

The moral of this story is not to blatantly lie to your readers or viewers. Especially with something like this. You will be called out on it…

  • Amazon accused of breaking PS4s

    Amazon accused of breaking PS4s

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Amazon has been accused of damaging PS4 units during shipping, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Sony is working with retail partners to fix or exchange the consoles following the numerous complaints from customers about the new device. Many of them have focused on Amazon in particular, saying that the retailer’s packaging was insufficient and may have damaged their devices in transit.

    Here’s the report:

Dan Race, a Sony spokesman, said a number of issues had been reported by customers, leading the company to believe there wasn’t a singular problem impacting a broad range of PS4 units. “We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping,” he said.

“The number of affected PS4 systems is less than 1%, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction,” he added.

An Amazon spokeswoman said in a separate statement that Amazon shipped more PS4 units on release day than any other videogame console in its history, but didn’t directly address complaints customers made about how it packaged and shipped the device.

“More than 99% of Amazon customers are having a great experience with their new console,” she said, adding that the retailer is working with Sony to assist the “small percentage” of unhappy customers.

The responses come after a growing chorus of gamers have begun to blame Amazon for troubles with their PS4 units. Almost immediately after the device was launched, customers complained that some units weren’t working. A growing number of customer reviews on Amazon noted poor packaging by Amazon, raising questions as to whether Microsoft most notably expanded the warranties for some Xbox 360 owners in 2007, a move that was expected to cost more than $1 billion to repair defects that led the box to display a red light on its exterior casing.

Sony, too, has been dogged by complaints over the years. Square Trade estimated in 2008 that the PS3’s failure rate hovered around 3%. Even the BBC did an investigative look at the PS3’s failures, a story which Sony criticized.

Whether the PS4 is failing more often than Sony claims is yet to be seen, and it’s worth noting that a loud chorus of unhappy people can always seem much larger than a silent majority of pleased customers. But it’s still hard to ignore that about a quarter of the reviews on Amazon.com’s page for the device claim something’s wrong.

The reason? Sony has issued a mass mandatory password reset on its PSN, although -according to them- there has been no security compromise.

This is what an ‚Online Support Coordinator‘ said on the official PlayStation forums:

We monitor PSN account for any irregular activity. If such activity is detected we will sometimes reset passwords.

This was done purely as precautionary measure and there was no specific evidence that any accounts had be compromised.

Only a small number of users were affected by this and as I said this was precautionary so there is nothing specific to worry about.

In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced.

In the North American region, automatic downloads for system and game updates are enabled by default when PS4 is in stand-by mode. Once system software update 1.51 is available later tonight, your PS4 will automatically download it, enabling you to update quickly and easily.

  • PlayStation DOA – How to get into PS4: Safe Mode

PlayStation DOA – How to get into PS4: Safe Mode

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you are having trouble starting your PlayStation®4, Safe Mode allows you to start the PS4™ with the minimum required functionality. Once in Safe Mode, there several menu options that may help you correct issues and allow your PlayStation 4 to start normally.

We do not recommend using the options in Safe Mode unless you are experiencing issues with the PlayStation 4. Some of these options could result in loss of data.

Starting the PS4 in Safe Mode

    1. Turn off the PlayStation 4 by pressing the power button on the front panel. The power indicator will blink for a few moments before turning off.
    2. Once the PlayStation 4 is off, press and hold the power button. Release it after you’ve heard two beeps: one when you initially press, and another 7 seconds later.
    3. Connect the DualShock 4 controller with the provided USB cable and press the PS button on the controller.

    Safe Mode Options

The following options are available in Safe Mode:

    1. Restart System – Ends Safe Mode and restarts the PlayStation 4 normally.
    2. Change Resolution – Changes the screen resolution to 480p when the PlayStation 4 is restarted.
    3. Update System Software – Allows the PlayStation 4 to update the system software via Internet, USB Drive, or Disc.
    4. Restore Default Settings – Restores the PlayStation 4 to the default factory settings.
    5. Rebuild Database – Scans the drive and creates a new database of all content.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
    6. Initialize PS4 – IMPORTANT: All data and settings will be lost by performing this step.
Deletes all user data and restores the PS4 to as if it just came out of the box. This option is the same as [Initialize PS4 ] in the (Settings) menu. System software (firmware) is not deleted.
    7. Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) – IMPORTANT: Deletes all information on the HDD, including the System Software. A message that states a USB storage device containing the System Software must be connected, is displayed. Then you can confirm the selection.

  • PS4’s secondary processor and extra GDDR3 RAM chip revealed

PS4’s secondary processor and extra GDDR3 RAM chip revealed

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

The good part of the teardown of a product is that we know much more about it than when looking only at the „official“ specs tables. This is what happened exactly with the Playstation 4 showing a secondary processor and extra RAM chips that weren’t on any „official“ specs list.

    icon_xl
The secondary processor seems a low-power ARM one and the RAM is GDDR3 of 2 Gigabits (256 MB). The specific functions are yet to be discovered but experts think that both could be used to liberate the main processos and RAM from secondary task such as processes in the background (standby, downloads etc…).

    According to vr-zone.com:

The newly revealed components include a low-power processor and 2 Gb (gigabits, not gigabytes) of GDDR3 SDRAM memory, stacking up to a total of 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM. The auxiliary processor, which is known as “SCEI CXD90025G”, has been revealed as a low-power ARM solution–however its specific functions aren’t known yet.

There are many ways that the SCEI CXD90025G could compliment the PlayStation 4′s robust environment, and the gaming community has speculated a few interesting possibilities.

Since it’s a low-power processor, it’s likely to be associated with background functions like standby processes and downloads. Another guess is that it might be utilized for DRM, and some have suggested the ARM core processor allocates resources for the PS4′s automatic gameplay recording feature as well.

The unveiled processor might also help out with the PS4′s transitions from gaming to other apps, and is likely to aid in preserving game progress when switching to other apps or menus. It may also have something to do with saving the current state of the console in sleep mode–not to mention the downloads and updates during the system’s slumber.

  • Chinese students payed to manufacture PS4 at Foxconn plant

Chinese students payed to manufacture PS4 at Foxconn plant

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

More than a thousand Chinese college students were forced to manufacture the PlayStation 4 as part of an internship at a Foxconn factory, reports Dongfang Daily.

Xi’an Technological University students spent two months at the Foxconn plant in Yantai, China, for a work-study program that ran from August to this week. Students from the program told Dongfang Daily that the internship was mandatory — their diploma would be withheld if they didn’t participate, and if they attempted to drop out of the program early, they would lose six credits‘ worth of courses. The students also said they were given tasks outside of their areas of study, and sometimes performed manual labor.

The same Foxconn plant came under fire last October when it was found to be using underage workers to manufacture the Wii U.

Foxconn said in a statement to Quartz that during an internal investigation, it found the students were given night shifts and forced to work overtime, a violation of company policy.

„Immediate actions have been taken to bring that campus into full compliance with our code and policies,“ said a Foxconn representative, including „reinforcing the policies of no overtime and no night shifts for student interns, even though such work is voluntary, and reminding all interns of their rights to terminate their participation in the program at any time.“

In a statement given to MCV, Sony said that Foxconn complies with Sony’s Supplier Code of Conduct, which the company established in 2005.

„The Sony Group established the ‚Sony Supplier Code of Conduct‘ in June 2005 with the expectation of every supplier agreeing and adhering to the policies of the Sony Group in complying with all applicable laws, work ethics, labour conditions, and respect for human rights, environmental conservation and health & safety,“ said Sony. „We understand Foxconn fully comprehend and comply with this ‚Sony Supplier Code of Conduct.’“

Correction: This article originally described the internship as unpaid, but the students were in fact paid the same as a normal Foxconn worker — 1,600 yuan (about $261.62) per month — according to the company and their school, Xi’an Technological University. We’ve edited the article above to reflect this, and apologize for the error.

    Playstation 4 Thermal Images

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

With today being the launch of the Sony Playstation 4, I figured I’d take some infrared shots of it in action. Using the new FLIR E8 Thermal Camera with MSX®, I’ve got some great shots to look at. Remember, computers and electronics get hot, but this will show you how the PS4 handles and vents that heat.

„Bottom“ side of the Playstation 4 Just after unpacking and running the firmware update.

„Top Side“ of the PS4, just after unpacking and running firmware update (on for about 5-7 minutes at this point). Note that the top part of the PS4 in this picture has a different emissivity than the lower, so, the temp measurements on the top won’t be as accurate.

The Playstation 4 has been on for about 10-12 minutes at this point as I move around the menus, and start adding my PSN profile.

This is after 5 minutes of standby, with a controller plugged in for charge.

The top part of the PS4 after about 10 minutes of Killzone.

The „bottom“ side after 10 minutes of Killzone.

Here you can see the vents heating up to around 121º F

30 minutes later, the top surface of the PS4 is still holding around 114º F degrees at its peak.

And finally, the bottom side of the Playstation is at 121º F.

The vents however, are now up to 143º F after 30 minutes of running Killzone, which is totally a reasonable spec!

UPDATE: A few folks asked for thermal of it lying flat – these two photos are about after 20 minutes of playing Killzone.

Highest temp read on the vent is around 126º F, a little cooler than when it was vertical, but the play time was a little bit shorter. I’ll be taking more photos as the weekend progresses, so keep checking back!

    UPDATE 2:

The hottest the vents have gotten in its flat position while playing Killzone, appear to be around 138/140º F, so a few degrees cooler, but close to where it was when it was vertical. The top surface still stays at a consistent 110-114º F.

UPDATE 3: Been playing for over 3 hours now, with the PS4 comfortable in my home theater cabinet in its flat position. The Playstation remains a little under the temperature it was when I was around 30 minutes in, which is around ~133ºF/56ºC.

  • South Park: The Stick of Truth ESRB Rating released

South Park: The Stick of Truth ESRB Rating released

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

It should be no surprise that South Park: The Stick of Truth is chock full o‘ filth-flarn-flarn-filth-flarn and hellbent for an M-for-Mature rating. It’s still fun to hear the ESRB reading the dialogue aloud from its fainting couch.

The game includes several instances of mature humor and sexual material: one extended sequence depicts characters getting anally probed by alien creatures

    Why, I do declare …

Another sequence (in an abortion clinic) depicts doctors using a vacuum to perform procedures on male characters

    Well, I never!

The words „f**k,“ „sh*t,“ „a*shole,“ and „f*ggot“ can be heard in the dialogue.

    Description from ESRB Website:

Content Descriptors: Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Violence

Rating Summary: This is a role-playing adventure game based on the animated South Park TV show. Players assume the role of a new kid in town who embarks on various quests with other boys in the neighborhood. Players can engage in turn-based combat, selecting attacks from a menu screen. Players use various weapons (swords, baseball bats, hammers), magic spells and melee attacks during fights; blood-splatter effects sometimes occur. Cutscenes occasionally depict “cartoony” characters dismembered or decapitated. The game includes several instances of mature humor and sexual material: one extended sequence depicts characters getting anally probed by alien creatures; another sequence (in an abortion clinic) depicts doctors using a vacuum to perform procedures on male characters; one level takes place inside the rectum/colon of a character (sex toys, random objects and fecal matter appear in the level)—all sequences are depicted in a cartoony and over-the-top manner. Characters are occasionally depicted nude (e.g., breasts, buttocks, male genitalia); one extended sequence depicts an out-of-focus couple having sex in the background; as players engage in turn-based battle in the foreground, sexual moaning sounds/dialogue is heard. During the course of the game, drug paraphernalia can be seen strewn around a methamphetamine lab. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” “a*shole,” and “f*ggot” can be heard in the dialogue.

    PlayStation 4 Teardown by iFixit

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

According to this new PlayStation 4 Teardown by iFixit, owners can expect their new consoles to be relatively easy to disassemble, reassemble and repair despite the fact that Sony warns against it…

The thorough analysis from the website rates the PS4 an 8 out of 10 based on repairability, additionally showing that common hardware issues preventing the PS4 from outputting a video signal to the display is likely the cause of a bent or damaged HDMI port on the console.

The PS4 breakdown also gives a closer look at the user-replaceable hard drive which can be replaced „with any off-the shelf drive you like“ as long as it is no thicker than 9.5 mm and no smaller than 160 GB.

Deeper into the belly of the PS4 shows the system’s power supply is rated at an AC Input of 100 to 240 volts, meaning „you can take your game around the world with your trusty PS4 always at your side“ as long as you have a standard power socket adapter. The PS4 motherboard features integrated circuits including:

    • SCEI (Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.) CXD90026G SoC (includes AMD „Jaguar“ Cores and AMD Radeon Graphics GPU)
    • Samsung K4G41325FC-HC03 4 Gb (512 MB) GDDR5 RAM (total of 16 x 512 MB = 8 GB)
    • SCEI CXD90025G Secondary/Low Power Processor for Network Tasks
    • Samsung K4B2G1646E-BCK0 2Gb DDR3 SDRAM
    • Macronix MX25L25635FMI 256Mb Serial Flash Memory
    • Marvell 88EC060-NN82 Ethernet Controller
    • SCEI 1327KM44S
    • Genesys Logic GL3520 USB 3.0 Hub Controller
    • Samsung K4G41325FC-HC03 4 Gb (512 MB) GDDR5 RAM
    • International Rectifier 35858 N326P IC2X
    • Macronix 25L1006E CMOS Serial Flash Memory
    • 39A207 1328 E1 3FU

However, despite the ability to tear apart the PS4, Sony warns: „There is a risk of exposure to laser radiation as well as to electrical shock.“
