The Wasteland 3 team here at inXile is very excited to announce the first narrative expansion for Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown will be releasing June 3. Since the game’s launch last August, we’ve been working on adding new features, quality of life changes, and fixing bugs and improving game stability and performance. But in the background, far from prying eyes, the team has been focused on creating new story-driven content.
The Battle of Steeltown is a narrative expansion to the core game of Wasteland 3—slotting into the game’s story and adding new locations, quests, gear, and adding new twists to our tactical combat. Steeltown sits as the manufacturing hub of Colorado, and the Patriarch—the region’s self-proclaimed ruler—relies on Steeltown to keep him in power. It’s responsible for keeping his guns firing and his vehicles running, but lately things have been … wrong. Shipments are arriving late, with the wrong items, or are just outright missing, and with the Plains Gangs threatening his sovereignty these aren’t problems he can just hope will fix themselves. That’s where you and the Rangers come in.
The Battle of Steeltown is the first DLC we’ll be releasing for Wasteland 3, and will be available for $13.99 on Xbox One (playable on Xbox Series X|S via Backward Compatibility), and on PC for Windows 10 and Steam on June 3. Xbox Game Pass members who want to purchase The Battle of Steeltown DLC save 10%. We’re looking forward to sharing more about the content, items, and unique combat mechanics in the weeks ahead. Stop by inXile-entertainment.com to keep up on the news, and of course we invite you to follow along on Twitter @Wasteland and join the Ranger.HQ on Facebook.
We also just launched the official Wasteland collection last week on the Xbox Gear Shop, including tees, a hoodie, tank tops, an ever-important Desert Rangers flask, and more. No longer will you need to scream “Wasteland 3!” while grocery shopping—now you can simply let people see it printed on your clothing. Head over to the Xbox Gear Shop and let your clothes do the screaming for you.

Over the last 20 years, researchers and educators have increasingly aimed to develop computing curricula that are culturally responsive and relevant. Designing equitable and authentic learning experiences in computing requires conscious effort to take into account the characteristics of learners and their social environments, in order to address topics that are relevant to a diverse range of students. We previously discussed this topic in a research seminar where the invited speakers shared their work on equity-focused teaching of computer science in relation to race and ethnicity.
Designing equitable and authentic learning experiences in computing requires conscious effort.
Culturally relevant teaching in the classroom demonstrates a teacher’s deliberate and explicit acknowledgment that they value all students and expect all students will excel. Much of the research on this topic stems from the USA. In the UK, it may be that a lack of cultural responsiveness in the computing curriculum is contributing to the underrepresentation of students from some ethnic backgrounds in formal computing qualifications [1] by negatively affecting the way these young people engage with and learn the subject.
Guidelines for creating culturally relevant learning resources for computing
Addressing this issue of underrepresentation is important to us, so we’re making it part of our work on diversity and inclusion in computing education. That’s why we’re delighted to have received an ACM SIGCSE Special Project Award for a project called ‘Developing criteria for K-12 learning resources in computer science that challenge stereotypes and promote diversity’. Our overarching aim for this project, as with all our work at the Raspberry Pi Foundation, is to broaden participation in computing and address the needs of diverse learners. Through this project, we will support computing educators in understanding culturally responsive pedagogy and how to apply it to their own practice. To this end, we’ve set up a working group that will use research into culturally responsive pedagogy to develop a set of guidelines for creating culturally relevant learning resources for computing. Our primary audience for these guidelines are teachers in the UK, but we are confident the project’s results will have value and application all over the world.
There is increasing awareness across all education, and in computing education in particular, that culturally responsive approaches to curriculum and teaching fosters relevancy, interest, and engagement for student learners. This exciting effort brings together computing classroom teachers and education researchers to identify approaches and resources that England’s educators can leverage to enact culturally responsive approaches to teaching computing.
Joanna Goode, Sommerville Knight Professor at the University of Oregon, member of our Special Project working group
What do we mean by culturally relevant resources?
A learning resource obviously has learning objectives, but it is also always set in a particular context, which may or may not be relevant to young people. It may contain images, video, and other media assets in addition to text. Presenting computing stereotypes, for example in the media assets and language used, or situating resources in an unfamiliar context can cause learners to feel that they do not belong in the subject or that it is not relevant to them and their life. On the other hand, providing resources that allow learners to relate what they are learning to issues or tasks that are personally meaningful to them and/or their culture or community can be empowering and engaging for them. For example, a common scenario used to introduce basic algorithm design to young people is making a cup of tea, but tea preparation and drinking may be culturally specific, and even if tea is drunk in a young person’s home, tea preparation may not be an activity they engage in.
Preparing a cup of tea — a scenario often used for introducing learners to algorithm design — can be culturally specific: compare matcha and builder’s tea.
Ensuring that a more diverse group of young people feel like they belong in computing
The expected long-term outcome of this project is to remove significant obstacles to young people’s participation in computing by ensuring that a more diverse group of young people feel represented and like they belong in the subject. The working group we have established consists of seven practising computing teachers from a diverse range of UK schools and a panel of four experts and academics (Lynda Chinaka, Mike Deutsch, Joanna Goode, and Yota Dimitriadi) working with young people and their teachers in the UK, USA, and Canada.
We will support computing educators in understanding culturally responsive pedagogy and how to apply it to their own practice.
Yota Dimitriadi, Associate Professor at the University of Reading and a member of the expert panel, says:“I am delighted to participate in this project that enables conversations and positive action around inclusive and intersectional computing practices. It is more important than ever to enhance a global perspective in our curriculum planning and further our understanding of culturally responsive pedagogies; such an approach can empower all our students and support their skills and understanding of the integral role that computing can play in promoting social justice.”
Such an approach can empower all our students and support their skills and understanding of the integral role that computing can play in promoting social justice.
Yota Dimitriadi, Associate Professor at the University of Reading, member of our Special Project working group
The group has started to meet and discuss the guidelines, and we aim to share early findings and outputs in the summer months. We’re very excited about this project, and we think it is an important starting point for other work. We look forward to updating you in the summer!

Brothers! Sisters! Boo! If your sibling is driving you up the wall by messing with your stuff, then catch them in the act. Using a Raspberry Pi HQ Camera and a cheap magnetic door sensor, you can take a photo or record video whenever the door opens, then send it straight to your phone. Busted! Take a look at this Room Guard project: magpi.cc/roomguardproject.
Fit a dinner klaxon
A really popular project from The MagPi issue 73 (magpi.cc/73), the teenage klaxon is the ultimate solution to yelling up the stairs in frustration at a headphone-clamped offspring. Simply use the web interface on your phone to set the candle light to green, amber, or ‘right, now you’re really in trouble’.
Listen to internet radio
No kid’s sanctuary is complete without some sounds. Why not add to your home audio system (see ‘Living room’) with another device or build an internet radio, capable of reaching thousands of stations across the globe. We really like Pimoroni’s Pirate Radio (magpi.cc/pirateradio) as a great starter kit.
Fit some fun lighting
If you really want to make an impression on your friends, get some LED strips and power them with a Raspberry Pi. You can start with single-colour 5050-type LED strips or move up to individually controllable NeoPixel sets (magpi.cc/neopixels). A project like this can just build and build; how about adding a microphone to create dancing lights? The Pi Hut has a great NeoPixels tutorial (magpi.cc/usingneopixels).
The Drone Racing League Simulator, the official game of the Drone Racing League (DRL), the #1 drone racing property in the world, is now on PlayStation 4. If you’ve ever dreamed about flying FPV (First Person View), DRL SIM is the fastest, easiest, and most cost-effective way to get the drone skills you’ll need to soar while experiencing the most immersive, out-of-body sensations only FPV drones can provide.
DRL drone and simulation engineers built the simulator with true-to-life drone components, physics, and aerodynamics, enabling players to fly, build and race drones exactly the same as in real life (IRL). The world’s best pilots fly in DRL and train, compete and win professional contracts in the DRL SIM — as seen on NBC, Twitter, Facebook and other premier sports networks around the globe.
And now you can, too! Download the DRL SIM today to master these drone skills:
Learn to fly
The DRL SIM features 54 training missions that’ll teach you how to hover, pitch, yaw, and other skills you’ll need to learn to navigate a drone without crashing and breaking the bank on your new drone.
Each mission takes only a few minutes and you can hop around the training as you like, but be prepared: the challenges get harder as you advance.
You’ll get real-time feedback to help you improve and once you complete the tutorial, you’ll be able to fly high-speed FPV drones IRL nice and smooth — because as DRL pilots know — slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
Design a supercharged drone
With the game’s interactive workbench, you can choose from real DRL drones flown by the best pilots in the world or design your own supercharged drone through tens of thousands of different combinations, customizing everything from the drone’s size, weight, thrust, prop colors, and more.
Choose from thousands of motors, batteries and props, licensed from top drone manufacturers, to control the air flow, set top speeds, and control launch-to-flight acceleration rates. Plus, you’ll get to unlock over 50 epic drone skins to cover your quad with a sleek canopy.
Make your one-of-a-kind drones public to share with other players in the DRL SIM community too, or keep them private and hog that quad for yourself.
Race like the pros
Race like the DRL pros through a real-time multiplayer mode, battling it out against friends and competitors across more than 20 unique maps — including 18 replicas of real DRL courses as seen on TV — like the sports and entertainment arena, Allianz Riviera in France, U.S. Air Force Boneyard map of a deserted airport, and Hard Rock Stadium, home to NFL’s Miami Dolphins in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Navigate nonstop obstacles including diamond-shaped gates, tight corners and real-world forces like gravity and turbulence. Watch your performance in the advanced replay system and compare your times against players and pros on the leaderboard. And take your new drone skills for a spin offline to feel what it’s like to fly like a bird, soaring through the world from a drone’s eye view.
Welcome to the tree house! It’s spring and time to get gardens back in order. Put on your straw hat, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get to work!
In Tools Up!’s new DLC, Tools Up! Garden Party has tons of new mechanics, tools, and exciting levels waiting for players to uncover through three separate episodes. Each episode will also feature a challenging opponent. In the first episode, keep a look out for a trickster raccoon — you’ll have to beat more than just the clock now! What else is waiting for you in Episode 1?
For a good start, grab a shovel in your hand! When you’ve got a bare patch of dirt there’s lots of work to be done. Better get a shovel because before you’ll be able to plant beautiful new plants or some seeds, the soil will need to be prepared properly.
Growing plants need lots of care and watering. One of the fastest ways to get the job done is to use a garden hose, but will you be able to control its attempts to escape? If you go it alone, hold on tight, but it’s even better to do this job with a friend to help you regulate the water’s flow. Thar she blows!
Tools Up! Garden Party introduces many novel mechanics and tools to the game. Something that’s new is that there is usually more than one way to complete a task…sometimes even more than two ways! You decide what works best for you—anything goes in the great outdoors! And before calling the job done, you’ll have to uncover the mystery of the tree house. What’s been going on up there? Play all three episodes to find out!
Tools Up! Garden Party – Episode 1: The Tree House
Tools Up! Garden Party consists of three episodes, each with 15 unique levels and a demanding boss to beat. Each DLC episode will be available as a part of our Season Pass. Tools Up! Co. was going home from another successful renovation, when suddenly—an enormous treehouse crashed down in front them! It was falling apart before their eyes. This job was going to take some work! Gather your crew of up to 4 players and put the treehouse in order in Tools Up! Garden Party! We’re in the great outdoors now, so you’ll get to plant trees, water flowers, cut the grass, and much more. But be careful—there might be someone hiding in the bushes! Collect leaves for jobs done well to unlock new levels and skins. There may be more than one way to achieve your goals, but will you be able to beat the clock?

Was erwartet euch in Episode 1?
Tools Up!
In Tools Up!
In Tools Up!
It’s no secret that the Track Editor has always been one of the most appreciated features in the Monster Energy Supercross – The Official Videogame franchise. It empowers the players by letting them use their infinite creativity to build their tracks and showcase them to the world, telling them: “Hey players, look at this track I created for you! I’d love you to have some laps on it!”
As a fan of the discipline myself, one of the things that has amazed me from the day I started following this sport was the fact that the tracks the riders race on are different every new championship. The track designers from the Supercross federation must come up with new ideas, new challenges every year to keep the track interesting, challenging and fun to watch. So, when we designed the Track Editor feature, we asked ourselves, “Why don’t we give the players the same opportunities as those track designers?”
At the beginning, the idea of the contest was limited to giving a prize to the player with the most appreciated track created… but it wasn’t enough. The more we talked about the prize, the more we were thinking. “What if the prize is the creation of the track itself?”
Therefore, after a lot of research and discussions, the idea became a project: “Let’s have the winner the satisfaction to have their creation become real!”
Every year, players submit thousands of tracks on each platform, creating amazing tracks from every point of view: it doesn’t matter if it’s from a layout or flow point of view. There are dedicated communities that compare their creations, ask for feedback, improve their tracks to find the perfect mix of elements to create the best track.
Some of these tracks receive so much positive feedback and are so fun to play that we thought that the Track Editor Contest could be even stepped up to the level that the winner’s track will be used as a track of the next official Supercross championship.
This is incredible from so many points of view. We’re so used to the fact that videogames mimic and are inspired by reality we are not even surprised anymore. This is one of the few times where reality will be inspired by what is created inside a video game.
This Track Editor Contest empowers players to a level almost never seen in the videogame industry, giving them the chance to create something that will truly have a huge impact on reality, on a Championship where the strongest riders in the world will compete on.
Cross is Super Again! The official videogame of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is back with its fourth edition, the most extreme ever! Curse of the Dead Gods released on Xbox One in February, and since this launch, all of us at Passtech Games have had a fantastic time watching all of you adventuring through our dark temple, getting up to all sorts of shenanigans. We’ve also been working hard on our latest update, the “Curse of the Dead Cells Update”, which we’re about to tell you all about!
The idea of a collaboration with Motion Twin was actually first sparked before the full launch, during the community-supported development of the game, back in October 2020 – what seems aeons ago now. Due to time limits, we chose to prioritize the base Curse content for the launch, which ended up being a blessing in disguise as it let us expand on the content of today’s update.
There are three new weapons in the update: the Broadsword of the Knight, the Sword of Conjunctivius, and the Crossbow of the Condemned, with the latter being a brand new weapon type with a unique cross-combo pattern. With the Broadsword, the second attack and the combo finisher will always score a critical hit. The Sword of Conjunctivius is powerful as hell but take damage once from enemies and you’re temple dust. The crossbow is a slow-firing ranged weapon that does damage in an area around the impact.
Moreover, we have added the iconic Cursed Chest from Dead Cells, with a few alterations. When you encounter it during your runs, you will have to defeat a certain number of enemies without taking damage to unlock its tempting contents: a choice of 3 items (weapons or relics), one of which will always be cursed.
Finally, we added a new curse (Curse of the Dead Gods’ emblematic gameplay changing events) which, alongside a gameplay alteration, gives Curse’s main character, McCallister, Dead Cells’ Prisoner’s iconic flaming head. As for how this new Curse works in-game, we’ll let you discover it!
Translating Dead Cells 2D pixel art into Curse of the Dead Gods 3D models was less of a challenge than it might seem, since we had a lot of references from Motion Twin and Evil Empire. The biggest challenge here was the Prisoner’s head, since it was created for a 2D side-scrolling platformer, and Curse has a top-down camera view. We are happy with the results though, and so are the studios behind Dead Cells!
It should be noted that most of us here in the office are huge fans of Dead Cells, so it was super exciting for us. It was also a good fit from a practical standpoint, because both games have a good variety of cool weapons, and both studios have a love for good combat systems. Besides paying homage to a game that marked the decade for us, our goal with the collaboration was to bring some fresh and surprising content into Curse, combining content from Dead Cells with the mood of Curse to create brand new features and weapons. We hope you all enjoy it!
You seek untold riches, eternal life, divine powers – it leads to this accursed temple, a seemingly-infinite labyrinth of bottomless pits, deadly traps, and monsters. Your greed will lead you to death, but that is not an escape. Rise to fight again. Delve deeper again. Defy the malignant deities that linger in this place. Battle through hordes of enemies in dark, cavernous passages filled with traps and secrets of all sorts – fire-spewing statues, explosives, hidden spikes, and worse. Collect mystical Relics and an arsenal of weapons to make yourself unstoppable. Corruption builds in you with every step – encourage or ignore it, but each powerful curse can be a double-edged sword. – A skill-based roguelike exploring a cruel, dark temple made of endless rooms and corridors – Swords, spears, bows, guns – wield these and many more – Unique curses influence each attempt, putting a twist on every action – Dozens of enemies, with powerful champions and deadly bosses to face off against
They say a hero is only as good as his villain, so there’s no wonder Ninja Gaiden’s face-breaking badass, Ryu Hayabusa, has been elevated throughout the decades as one of video game’s truest legends. Ninja Gaiden Master Collection lets gamers relive every one of Master Hayabusa’s bloody fights – the same fights that live on in Ninja Gaiden lore, and the fights that made the franchise famous for being the originator of masocore as one of the most unapologetically difficult gaming experiences in existence.
So for old-school fans of the franchise looking for a refresher on just who will pose some of the toughest challenges in the new collection, or for new fans looking for a quick taste of the bloody battles waiting for them when they sign in to play the three games included (Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge), here are the four bosses gamers should keep an eye out (and a weapon ready) for when the collection hits Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on June 10.
Doku
The Lord of the Greater Fiends of the Vigoor Empire, Doku is a merciless warrior who Ryu will encounter throughout the Sigma experience. One of the most memorable fights goes down in the Hayabusa Ninja Village, but you will need to face-off against this fierce foe multiple times (and in multiple forms), including a vengeful spirit. Watch out for Doku’s fierce grab move. If he gets a hold of you and hits you with his standing sword swing, it’s game over in one move.
Alma
The twin (sinister) sister of Rachel, Alma throws down with the best of them, offering one of the most memorable fiend battles in the franchise. Alma’s incredible agility and dodging ability make her terribly tough to hit, and she can throw both fireballs at enemies and cast a beam of light that propels opponents back at her, leaving them prone to getting smashed back into the ground. When Alma reaches her awakened form, she looks to smack our favorite ninja down with her tail. Seems like a good time to break out the Flying Swallow Technique to take this boss out once and for all, but be careful, as according to long-time Ninja Gaiden fans, Alma might just be the toughest fiend in the entire franchise.
Genshin
The Supreme Ninja Overlord, Genshin, is the antihero so cool, it’s too bad you have to kill him. Genshin is the Overlord of the Black Spider Clan and in Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, the super ninja battles Ryu everywhere from Japan to South America to the Netherworld. Wielding the Blade of the Archfiend, Genshin’s sword rivals that of Ryu’s Dragon Sword, so gamers will need to wary of its deadly swipes. In fiend form, Genshin also wields the power of Pyrokinesis, giving him the ability to shoot flaming arrows and create a ring of fire around him by striking the ground.
Regent of the Mask
A sadistic assassin and alchemist, Regent of the Mask’s combination of swordplay and sorcery is unrivaled throughout the series. Regent of the Mask hits Ryu with everything from sword thrusts to close-up stabbing attacks to energy bolts and illusions. Because of Regent of the Mask’s jaw-dropping speed, Ryu will need to be just as quick to dodge and dash, then strike his rival down from behind if our favorite ninja wishes to finally reveal just who is the man behind this evil mask.
But these aren’t the only fan-favorites Ryu Hayabusa will encounter throughout the long-heralded series (looking at you, Volf!), when Ninja Gaiden Master Collection arrives for this hero’s highly-anticipated return to Xbox, a console with great history for our super ninja, and the villains who helped create the legend.
The undisputed king of hack ‘n’ slash is back home on Xbox … and ready to reclaim its throne.

Immersion in your VR experience is the difference between wearing oversized goggles in your living room and being transported to another world through the power of your headset. You want to allow yourself to be emotionally invested in your virtual environment, but your equipment or surroundings could determine
We want to help educate the world about what VR has to offer, and we know the internet loves tier lists! So, we created the comprehensive tier list of VR immersion in 2021!
Let’s walk through these tiers:
As the tier title dictates, this is your most basic version of VR. Where it lacks in immersive properties, it makes up for in sheer convenience. However, this is not meant to be your primary VR experience, but it is meant to educate you on what VR is capable of at its most basic form.
This transcends beyond just the simple cardboard system; this involves a headset and a remote to simply interact with the material available. While it still is missing certain features, it is an optimal choice for those who want a comfortable viewing experience with a low friction set-up.
This tier allows for further tracking of your head’s movements, and the remote has evolved into a controller. The added degrees of freedom and the use of a controller allows for the opportunity to interact with 3D objects. Compared to tier 2, this set of equipment creates the opportunity for your movement to be even better captured while still remaining very easy to set up or teardown.
This is where many VR community members now find themselves in now. This is a standalone headset with two controllers. Your body and head are now tracked through the headsets, and you have two controllers to interact with the virtual world. The content is limited to what is available on the system itself, but it remains easy to hop in and out of VR.
With a PC now working in tandem with your VR headset, a whole host of content is now at your disposal. Not only do you have all the necessary functions for VR, but a wider range of content available now opens new opportunities to interact with the Virtual world.
Now, with base stations and a PC working with your headset, external tracking and more immersive VR takes place. Premium tracking can take place without experiencing lowlight issues.
Base stations and trackers now fully capture your extremities in order for your movement to be best translated into VR. By placing trackers beyond just your body parts, you can bring real objects into VR as intractable pieces of your environment.
If the goal of VR is immersion then this is the final level of VR. Eyes, mouth, and body are now all fully trackable by VIVE hardware. This bolsters your sense of empathetic communication by amplifying facial expressions and emotions. As the future of work and collaboration further incorporates virtual reality, having the ability to be truly expressive will be invaluable. VIVE hardware allows users to build rapport and earn trust in ways that would be impossible without natural empathetic communication. With VIVE Facial Tracker we have brought the warmth of a smile into VR spaces. By doing this we transform not only the way that we socialize virtually, but also how we conduct counseling & therapy sessions from afar. With VIVE hardware, you’re supported on a technical level and an emotional level.
The VR space is constantly growing, and we are always excited to see where the VR community innovates and pushes the boundaries of what we know as VR.
Hi everyone! We are very excited to be approaching the launch of Returnal, on April 30, and we wanted to share a few more details on Selene’s journey. This time we wanted to talk about some of the hostile forces she will encounter on Atropos.
The planet of Atropos is a dark and mysterious place, and each environment will provide its own unique set of enemies to overcome: from the organic and parasitic creatures inhabiting the Overgrown Ruins, to the cosmic or corrupted entities roaming the sands of the Crimson Wastes, and the mechanical automatons that endlessly patrol the haunting Derelict Citadel… Players will encounter a large variety of different foes, which aside from their unique aesthetics will also provide their own unique gameplay flavor and special attacks.
When creating the organic enemies of Returnal, one of the biggest sources of inspiration for me was looking at bioluminescent deep-sea creatures. In many ways they felt like the most alien lifeforms one could find here on Earth. There is something inherently unsettling and foreign about the deep-sea as an environment for us. The way these creatures move deep underwater, with their long tentacles and bioluminescent highlights, can often appear majestic, beautiful and downright terrifying. It’s also not uncommon for these creatures to use their luminous beauty to allure or distract their prey (for example, with a dazzling display of bioluminescence), and suddenly strike when their prey is least expecting it. This combination of chaotic beauty and nightmarish aggression was something we aimed to capture with our organic creatures’ aesthetic.
Towards this purpose we ended up creating our own special VFX-driven tentacle tech and used it very liberally. These fully dynamic elements bring that chaotic beauty to the enemies we were after, and also created some really satisfying feedback for players as well.
For instance, the bioluminescent emissives on tentacles are strongly highlighted to telegraph oncoming attacks and provide satisfying hit reactions when enemies are shot (or when an enemy is killed, where they blow up in a glorious explosion of severed tentacles). The strong emissive highlights also connect back to our Bullet Hell attacks, where our projectiles naturally inherit this vibrant “energy signature” from our enemies, to create a cohesive aesthetic that strongly reinforces our gameplay intent as well.
For our creative process, we wanted to make sure that our enemies looked otherworldly and unique, but also wanted them to provide great gameplay of course. In a few cases, our enemy ideas would start from a particular aesthetic or story we were trying to tell – for example our Mycomorph (pictured above) was the idea of a parasitic organism that festers on Selene’s corpses, so you would see her fractured skull and ribcage amidst the tree-like parasitic growth of the enemy up close. But usually, we followed a very gameplay-first approach when crafting our enemies in Returnal: we’d devise various key roles and archetypes that we wanted to fill for each biome, and start prototyping them not only by themselves, but also in different combinations with each other.
While many of our encounters will provide a projectile challenge from afar, some enemies can provide close range attacks that demand precise avoidance timing as well. One example is the aggressive Titanops you can see in the video. This large bipedal creature has one arm completely made of tentacles, while the other is a cleaver-like extruded bone that it uses to land devastating blows. The Titanops takes a lot of damage to defeat, and will chase you relentlessly, often closing the gap on you by leaping large distances directly into melee range.
But most other creatures prefer to keep combat at a distance. For example, in the Overgrown Ruins the Mycomorph has a strong emphasis on shooting aggressive homing projectiles from afar. It will often teleport to new locations to find better vantage points, and will also throw out a grenade-style attack that releases a cluster of vines, which will inhibit player movement when within proximity.
In the Crimson Wastes, the Gorgolith is a crab-like creature with a penchant for ambushes. This predator is able to fire a barrage of fast-moving projectiles, a direct laser from its tail, and an expanding shockwave blast, but can also surprise you with a tentacle-style melee attack if you get in close and personal. Protected by a hard shell, its only weak spot is the head, so you will have to balance good defensive manoeuvring with a consistent offense, for example by utilizing our Focus Aim, which highlights enemy weak points and also increases accuracy.
Ultimately though most of our encounters will rely primarily on highlighting our signature projectile and Bullet Hell gameplay, and our bosses especially will provide a vast array of challenging patterns to showcase this. For example, soaring in the skies of the Crimson Wastes, Ixion has a large variety of different layered attacks to avoid, ranging from patterns that populate the playfield with hundreds of slow-moving bullets to carefully weave through, to fast-speed attacks that provide more reactive dash-focused gameplay, to expanding shockwaves that compartmentalize the space and demand your continuous attention, to majestic bursts of countless homing missiles with long trails which bring some extra intensity to our combat.
While many of these combat encounters will prove very intense on their own, it is really when they’re combined that they showcase Returnal’s unique gameplay. While each enemy has its own distinctive personality and its own uniquely identifiable attacks patterns, we have also tried to find the best synergies and pairings between enemies to ensure they work together gracefully. We want to ensure our combat scenarios feel consistently challenging and deeply rewarding, but also avoid veering into the unfair or incomprehensible.
On that note, your spatial awareness will be put to the test in Returnal. You’ll need to keep moving and make full use of Selene’s moveset in order to prevail, while staying fully alert of the myriad threats incoming from all directions. Our level layouts have lots of verticality, so you’ll need to be constantly traversing the environment to avoid the onslaught of projectile attacks and try to reach better vantage points to dispatch the enemies. Effective use of Dash will be critical, as it can be used freely as a navigation tool, but also to dash through our projectile attacks without taking damage, and also avoid last-minute melee attacks with some split-second timing. We’ve covered our wide array of weapons and upgrades that Selene can find in a previous post, and players will need to use every tool and navigation option they have in order to survive on Atropos.
This is just a small glimpse of some of the various encounters and combat scenarios you’ll find in Returnal. We are very excited and proud for PS5 users to experience Returnal very soon on April 30.
Hey PlayStation friends, Simon here from the Roll7 team. It is great to be back to talk about our new game OlliOlli World. Some of you may remember us back when we launched OlliOlli and OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood on the PS Vita, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. It was amazing to see the reception to our games, and, not going to lie, it wasn’t bad winning a few awards along the way.
While we’ve released other games, we’ve always wanted to return to our roots with another OlliOlli. One that really nails that feeling of laying down a perfect line of seemingly endless tricks while lofi tracks beat in the background creating a harmony of euphoria and endorphins. We knew if we were to make a new OlliOlli, it would have to be bigger, better, and stronger, err I mean brighter than before. We’ve been working on OlliOlli World now secretly for years, and it is so great to finally be able to show it off.
Real quick recap for everyone: OlliOlli World is an action platforming game in which you bust tricks with both sticks through a bizarre and whimsical world attempting to achieve high scores, unlock various customizations options, meet wacky and peculiar friends, and ultimately search for the skate gods of Gnarvana. You will need coordination, timing, and some practice to lay down monster combos. Skateboarding can be difficult and while we didn’t want to shy away from that, we wanted to make sure that it is approachable, and you are comfortable cruising around. There is this exhilarating feeling that comes when you stick a hardflip over an especially massive stair set and we want everyone to enjoy that. We hope you get that same feeling in OlliOlli World; the only difference is here those stairs might be over a gushing rainbow river that is home to a colossal squid. Because of course it is…
If you are a fan of our previous games, one of the first things you will notice is the big shift in the art. We loved the retro-pixel feeling of our previous titles, but we knew with OlliOlli World we wanted to pursue a bolder, more vivid, animated style. The world is a bit quirky, and we wanted to take the game in a new visual direction that really allowed us to show it off while also emphasizing this is not a sequel, but a totally new game. A major inspiration was to pull in skate culture, street art, and all the unique crossroads that develop around skating. There is a fascinating intersection of psychedelic elements and trippy influences across these communities. We wanted to create a world in which embodies and shares that essence, yet also feels purposeful despite all its oddity. You’ll see walking ice cream people, business frogs, Milk Shake pools, tubing Grizzly Bears, and other bizarre inhabitants. The locations have some real-world influences but then we injected a heavy dose of offbeat humor that we hope brings a chuckle.
Another big addition to OlliOlli World is the ability to take multiple different paths through levels. We wanted to provide a new level of freedom to explore this weird and wonderful world so now certain paths will branch off into separate directions. This means you’ll be able to cruise down different paths discovering new side quests and more epic trick opportunities really adding to both the variety and replayability of the game. There are hidden ramps, sneaky jumps, quarter pipes, and other spots in which you can just take a moment to carve as you build up your score or practice your moves. We wanted to emulate that feeling of finding a secret skate spot and figuring out what is the best trick to land there.
One major requested feature in previous games was the ability to personalize your character, and we are super stoked to see what you will come up with in OlliOlli World. We’ve designed a ton of customization options: you can wear a bunch of gear and wild accessories, select from different skateboards, and can even change your physical appearance. Over your journey, you will face some wicked challenges which can net you that sweet, sweet swag. You can also alter your characters tricks and gain new moves. Are you more of a method grab kinda dude? We got you. Do you like 360 flips over varial heelflips? Do it up. We always wanted our game to be about how you can really express yourself both visually and how you skate.
OlliOlli World will feature a full single-player campaign with multiple locations, tons of levels, side quests, challenges, and more. Then after you’ve trekked across Radland, there are still plenty of spots to master as OlliOlli World features the ability to create and share procedurally generated levels in sandbox mode. We are also packing on high score leaderboards, and if you are truly one of the baddest skaters in the lands check out Leagues, a global competition to decide who is the most gnarly of them all.
We hope that with this whole new world we built, ridiculous new art style, creating branching paths and hidden spots to skate, all new mechanics to combine and master as well as other new features, to really make this next iteration in the series extra special. Be sure to take a trip with us this winter when OlliOlli World launches for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Spring has finally arrived and Tools Up! is back with an all-new DLC, Tools Up! Garden Party. Gather your friends or play it yourself on PlayStation 4, but hop to it because these gardens need your help!
The DLC consists of three, separately-released episodes, each with 15 unique levels, new tools, and mechanics, as well as a challenging opponent. While episodes 2 and 3 are coming soon, Episode 1: The Tree House is ready to play now.
What is waiting for you in Episode 1?
What is one of the most important things in any garden? Beautiful and lush green grass of course! It’s so nice to lie on it and look at the blue sky, right? Tools Up! Co. love it too, but there’s lots of work to be done before anyone can rest.
In Tools Up! Garden Party you’ll grow grass from seed. To get the best results though, you’ll have to first pull up any old grass and prepare the soil well for planting. And of course you’ll have to water your seedlings too.
Have you been getting a lot of rain? Because it looks like your lawn is completely out of control! No big deal, just start the lawn mower and give the grass a trim. Wait—we said no big deal, but you know to not run over your friends right? Right?
If you find a lawn mower to be too difficult a tool, get back to the basics and use scissors or even your hands. Experiment to discover all the ways different tasks can be completed.
Not only does Tools Up! Garden Party introduces a lot of new mechanics and tools to the game, now, some tasks can be completed in more than one way. Anything goes when you’re in the wilderness of the great outdoors! On top of all your gardening duties, you’ll have to solve the mystery of the tree house before you can call the job done. Work your way through all three episodes and uncover the truth hidden in the treetops on PS4.
…

April 2021 insgesamt 1 x 20 Euro Store-Guthaben.Die allgemeinen Teilnahmebedingungen findet ihr hier.
