    Twitch Extensions empower new interactions and collaborations between streamers and viewers. Our friends at Amazon Games explored this with their experimental top-down shooter The Collaborative.

    The Collaborative is both a game and a Twitch Extension. While the streamers are playing the game, the viewers are using the Twitch Extension. While the streamers are strafing and shooting deadly robots, the viewers are stamping the world with pixel art to ward off the deadly robots.

    Let’s take a look at the Twitch video player and how it appears to the viewers.

    What is happening here? Each of those lasers is a pixely stamp being sent from a viewer’s browser into the streamer’s game.

    As a viewer, you can use the canvas on the right to design your stamp, and once you’re satisfied, you click anywhere on the stream to place it in the game world. Click on the wall, drop a stamp on the wall. Click on the floor, drop a stamp on the floor.

    From the comfort of your browser, you can graffiti the game with your stamps by clicking anywhere in the game. And once it is in the game, the streamer can find it, play with it, and share it with the rest of the stream!

    With the magic of Twitch Extensions! From within a video overlay Extension, we listen for the viewer to click anywhere on the stream. When clicked, we capture the position, time, stamp, and username. We send all this data to the streamer’s game.

    From within the game, we fire a raycast from the camera’s position.

    The biggest problem with this approach is that the player and the camera move over time, and a Twitch stream has some latency. If we naively raycast from where the camera is currently positioned, it’ll appear a few seconds ahead of where we wanted to stamp it. Each and every viewer has a variable amount of latency!

    In this example (seen below), the viewers are always two seconds behind the streamer: When the streamer is interacting with the new Purple 6, the viewers are still interacting with the old Green 4!

    Fortunately for us, we can check their viewer latency in the Twitch Extension Helper’s onContext method. The `hlsLatencyBroadcaster` is the amount of seconds between the viewer and the streamer.

    So to account for the latency between streamer and viewers, we instruct the game to maintain a history of all the previous camera positions for the last 30 seconds. We then have the Extension include their latency with each stamp they send. When the game receives the stamp, it rewinds the camera position to account for the latency and performs the raycast.

    Also, because our timeline between the viewer and streamer is lagging, it means viewers don’t see their stamp dropped into the world right away. Even though the game has updated almost immediately with the stamp, the viewers won’t see it until the stream has caught up. So to ensure the viewer that their stamp is working, we render a loading bar. We run this loading bar long enough to account for the `hlsLatencyBroadcaster`.

    And just like that, we have an end-to-end interactive Twitch experience. Viewers can interact directly with the streamer through Twitch!

    Retrofit a vintage camera flash with a Raspberry Pi Camera Module

    Wanting to break from the standard practice of updating old analogue cameras with digital technology, Alan Wang decided to retrofit a broken vintage camera flash with a Raspberry Pi Zero W to produce a video-capturing action cam.

    By hacking a somewhat gnarly hole into the body of the broken flash unit, Alan fit in the Raspberry Pi Zero W and Camera Module, along with a few other components. He powers the whole unit via a USB power bank.

    At every touch of the onboard touchpad, the retrofit camera films 12 seconds of footage and saves it as an MP4 file on the onboard SD card or an optional USB flash drive.

    While the project didn’t technically bring the flash unit back to life — as the flash function is still broken — it’s a nice example of upcycling old tech, and it looks pretty sweet. Plus, you can attach it to your existing film camera to produce some cool side-by-side comparison imagery, as seen in the setup above.

    Grinding Gear Games is proud to announce Path of Exile: Blight! Set to launch on September 9, Blight is the latest in ‘s quarterly expansion updates. Each expansion introduces a new challenge league, powerful items, skill gems, a shake-up of Path of Exile’s playstyle meta and much, much more.

    In Path of Exile: Blight, dangerous fungal growths have begun appearing across the cursed continent of Wraeclast, threatening man and beast alike. With the help of the new NPC Sister Cassia, you are tasked with destroying these growths. Cassia has built a specialised pump for the job, but as her pump siphons the toxic fungal ichors, monsters of all shapes and sizes emerge to defend the Blight. These fiends are particularly hardy. Luckily, Cassia has designed a range of towers to help protect her pump, which you can deploy.

    Blight combines the fast, frantic action of Path of Exile’s combat with the strategic fun of tower defense games. To successfully defeat the Blight, you need to make decisions on the fly, stay aware of your surroundings, and plan for what may lay ahead. Successfully defending Cassia’s pump rewards you with valuable weapons and armour, and special oils which Cassia can use to anoint your rings and amulets with powerful enchantments.

    Alongside the tower defense gameplay of Blight comes a bumper-crop of new skills, items and balance changes. This update provides significant balance improvements to the Necromancer archetype, with new defensive options like the Meat Shield Skill Gem, Support Gems which augment the AI of your minions (making them more aggressive or defensive) updates to existing minion-themed items, and an overhaul of the Necromancer Ascendancy class.

    The Poison Assassin archetype is receiving similar attention, with five new Skill Gems that greatly broaden the gameplay options for players who like to inflict agonising poisons on their foes. The new Elusive mechanic, found on the Assassin Ascendancy class, adds more mobility for a class that likes to get in, get the job done, and get out.

    Likewise, the Mine Saboteur archetype will soon have access to a set of new Mine Skill and Support gems, with existing Mine gems undergoing significant rebalancing to make the Mine playstyle feel more tactical and tactile. The Saboteur Ascendancy, too, has seen improvements.

    For those of you who play Action RPGs for that sweet, sweet loot, we are, of course, adding potent new unique items, divination cards, and, with Cassia’s anointing, an avenue to augment items in powerful new ways (including the ability to add any Passive Skill Tree notable to your amulet!).

    One of the core design philosophies of Path of Exile is to allow players to play the way they want to play. To that end, we’re changing the way Master Missions are dealt out in Path of Exile’s endgame, the Atlas of Worlds. Where once you had to actively pursue a Master Mission, or permanently miss out, you’ll now be able to accumulate these Missions over time, being able to then play them at your own pace and on which ever endgame Map areas you’d like!

    As with every Path of Exile update, all of these additions, as well as everything in the core game, is 100% free to play. The Blight League will last for approximately three months, and features a fresh game economy. The start of a new League is the most exciting time to play Path of Exile, with thousands of players racing to be the first to discover everything the new league has to offer, so we hope you’ll join us when Blight launches on September 9!

    Simulating a flip clock on an Arduino-driven LCD screen

    Although flip clocks may be extremely interesting electromechanical devices, with rolling flaps to show what time it is, they’re also fairly complicated if you want to build one yourself. Mark Wilson, however, took a different approach with his project, simulating the output on a 320×240 LCD display.

    The clock is powered by an Arduino Uno and a DS3231 RTC module, allowing it to show the time, date, a blinking colon, and even the days until the trash/recycling needs to be put out. Alternate screens are available as well, including a Pong clock, triangle clock, and cube clock, which can be individually selected or set to randomly cycle if you so desire. 

    For its housing, Wilson chose a minimal acrylic/standoff design that seems to suit it well, and you can see it in action in the short demo clip below.

    New Smite Goddess Persephone Joins the Battleground on Xbox One

    Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, claims her throne in the exciting new Smite update available now on Xbox One!

    As the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, Persephone’s fate was often decided by others. So when she saw her chance to act alone, Persephone took it. Hades offered Persephone a not-so-simple choice: a seed of a pomegranate, grown in the underworld.

    Persephone was clever. She understood what was being offered. Those who eat the food of the underworld are bound to it and must return. So, for the first time, Persephone took control of her life — and her throne in the underworld.

    Persephone is Queen of the Underworld, but really only in title. She doesn’t aspire to the same royal wants of someone like Hera, Zeus, or Olorun. Instead, Persephone rules the Underworld like she would tend to a garden, cultivating beauty. Her desire to see the beauty in death is detailed through her abilities.

    Whether it be her reawakened skeletal warriors or her ghastly bloomed flowers, Persephone’s kit demonstrates the concept of life and death, combined. As a mage, Persephone’s gameplay primarily focuses on long range magical damage. But Persephone is unlike any other mage in Smite; she cultivates the Battleground with deployable skull plants, then triggers them to bloom, attack, and trap her foes. For this God, a bountiful harvest is full of gold and kills.

    Just like our community, we’re thrilled to see Persephone in game. But we’re even more thrilled to conclude a four-month-long event in this update: The Battle for Olympus has come to an end! We’re celebrating with the amazing new Tier 5 Winds of Change Kukulkan skin, which transforms between three forms as you play.     Meet the Colorful Characters of ReadySet Heroes, Out October 1

    Hi PlayStation fans! I’m Elyse and I’m the Art Lead for at Robot Entertainment. I’m happy to announce that ReadySet Heroes will launching October 1st on both the PlayStation 4 system and PC. You can pre-order the game now and score some fun content, which we’ll detail later in this post.

    I can’t wait for you all to play and I’m excited to share more about the world of ReadySet Heroes and the characters that inhabit it. We created a rich fantasy realm in which you will encounter harrowing enemies, and challenging puzzles all designed to test your skills to prove yourself as a true champion.

    Every game needs heroes, and we wanted to create a diverse lineup of charming characters for players to choose from. There are ten playable heroes*, each with a unique personality. Each have journeyed from their home to compete in the trials in hopes of becoming a champion.

    Players will start with 5 heroes to choose from. Players must complete certain challenges to unlock the remaining 5 heroes.

    I’d like to introduce you to a few of my personal favorites and talk about how we approached their designs.

    Tuck

    Tuck the badger is courageous, confident and adventurous, and was the first hero we created for the game. We explored many ideas of how to translate a badger’s characteristics into his design, which set the tone for the rest of the heroes. To achieve a more stylized aesthetic we choose to simplify the texture and pattern of his fur into similar shapes that would read well from the in game camera distance.

    Dixie

    Dixie the rabbit is brave, funny, and a bit of a tomboy. A rabbit felt like a perfect fit for her energetic personality, and her giant ears and wide feet add a fun element to her silhouette.

    Ollie

    Ollie the lizard is a novice warrior, often clumsy and always good humored. Concepting a lizard was a good opportunity to add a splash of bright color to the hero lineup. It was a lot of fun to come up with the patterning of his spots and stripes!

    Willow

    Willow the woodpecker is a sharp witted, serious competitor, with a mysterious nature. Adding a bird hero created an opportunity for the animators to have some fun in creating her animations. Check out how she glides into the scene and shows off that distinctly bird-like twitch in her movements.

    When deciding how to approach the character designs, animal heroes felt like a great fit for the world we wanted. It created an opportunity to explore which animals would make for great heroes, but also created some additional technical challenges for the team to consider. The biggest of these was how to achieve visual variation in size and proportion while working on a shared skeleton for the animations. We explored various styles for the characters as shown below to work out which look would work with shared sets of animations, while still allowing for some variation between animal types.

    On the design side, the heroes also have very limited differences to their starting stats like speed, and attack, so we wanted to be careful to not imply those differences were greater by changing the size and proportions of the animals too drastically.

    What would a trial be without enemies, and ReadySet features a lot! During the dungeon crawl portion of the game, players journey through a variety of different worlds which each feature a unique set of adversaries. The artists and designers worked closely together to come up with enemies which are both visually amusing and challenging to encounter.

    When concepting these enemies our process was very organic to facilitate more creativity. The design team would meet with the concept artists to discuss their initial thoughts on what type of creatures fit well with each world. From there the artists came up with a number of sketches for enemies that could fit with the gameplay mechanics the designers had envisioned. Let’s take a look at a few of these enemies that you’ll encounter.

    The Woodland Sprout

    These little fellas may be small, but they’re just as spunky and determined. We tried out a number of various color schemes for them before landing on the pink and green combo marking them as denizens of the forest them reside in. You will rarely find one alone, and while they are not among the stronger foes their spear attacks can be a true challenge when they group up.

    The Skelly

    The Skelly is exactly who you don’t want to discover walking around a graveyard at night. They were one of the first enemies to be concepted and help to set the style of the rest of the enemies with the exaggerated proportions of their heads and bodies. These foes will wander until they spot you then unleash a slashing attack with their broadsword.

    The Lava Turtle

    Lava Turtles are not the swiftest of beasts but be careful to not get in their way or you will find yourself set ablaze. They can be found roaming the paths of the cave world and will attack if you get too close. Their hard shell means they are tougher to defeat than they would otherwise appear.

    The Slime Knight

    The Slime Knight is a great example of how we approached enemy design. The designers requested a larger character who was slow but extremely powerful. An armor suited enemy fitted well with the type of beast you’d find roaming the castle halls. To add an extra twist the concept artist came up with the idea of the purple slimes we had already created for the Castle to “possess” the armor, leading to the Slime Knight you see today. Do not make the mistake of underestimating them as one swing from their mace inflicts a large amount of damage.

    Hopefully you’ve enjoyed learning more about the characters of ReadySet Heroes, and will be thinking about which hero you want to main – I’m calling Ollie now! There are many more characters to discover including some epic bosses to battle, so be ready for more to come.

As we get closer to announcing our launch date, we wanted to give you an insight into one of the really special mechanics at the heart of Mutazione, as well as some exclusive new footage, right here:

    Magical Musical Gardens

    In the game you play as Kai as she travels to the strange and secretive community of Mutazione to visit her ailing Grandfather, Nonno. There’s lots you can do each day: run around the village, choose who you want to talk to, and explore your way through an in-game week of small-town drama and scenic hangout spots.

    But as you nurse your grandfather back to health, you begin to unravel long-kept secrets, and come to discover that Nonno has had plans to pass on his strange shamanistic practices to you…

    In Mutazione, you see, if you have the right training and aptitude, you can hear the plants grow.

    Nonno will teach you how to speed up plant growth, and guide you through the process of understanding how to compose gardens in a way which will enable them to flourish.

    Singing Seeds

    There are dozens of plants you can collect seeds from, both in the wild and from characters. And a plant encyclopedia where you can read more about their qualities.

    Every single plant in the game has its own ‘instrument’ – a specific set of sounds and melodies it plays when you plant it in a garden. As you compose a garden, you will also be able to customise your own generative ambient musical composition.

    The musical gardens were composed and designed by Alessandro Coronas, who was primarily inspired by nature. The team also drew influence from ambient music, especially Brian Eno’s classic album Music For Airports. We wanted to make a story-driven adventure game where players would also be able to express themselves creatively.

    The plants feature a mix of synthesized audio and recordings of real instruments (e.g. guitars, strings). Different plant families play in different harmonic keys, so you’ll experience a variety of moods, textures, and emotions, from melancholic orchestral instruments in a minor key, to tranquil acoustic guitars in a major key.

    You can engage with the gardens as much or as little as you like, sometimes you might like to move on with the story, but you can always return to and adjust them, and if you want some background music while you take a break from the story in the game, just sit in ‘listen’ mode, and enjoy your unique ambient composition.

    We can’t wait for you to play the game, and are looking forward to announcing our release date in the near future, when we will also introduce you to the ensemble cast of loveable mutants you’ll befriend as you play the game.

    Unsere Helden

    Jedes Spiel braucht Helden. Deswegen haben wir eine vielfältige Reihe von liebenswerten Helden erschaffen, zwischen denen die Spieler wählen können. Es gibt zehn spielbare Helden*, von denen jeder seine eigene, einzigartige Persönlichkeit besitzt. Jeder Held verließ seine Heimat, um sich der Herausforderung zu stellen und zum Champion zu werden.

    Ich würde euch gerne einige meiner persönlichen Lieblingshelden vorstellen und näher darauf eingehen, wie wir sie entworfen haben.

    Tuck

    Tuck der Dachs ist mutig, selbstbewusst und abenteuerlustig. Er war der erste Held, den wir für das Spiel erschaffen haben. Wir haben viele verschiedene Ansätze ausprobiert, um die Eigenschaften eines Dachses in sein Design einfließen zu lassen. Tuck stellte dann auch die Grundlage für das Design der anderen Helden dar. Um das stilisierte Aussehen zu erreichen, dass wir uns wünschten, haben wir die Texturen und Muster seines Fells so vereinfacht, dass diese auch aus der Sichtweite der Kamera im Spiel noch gut erkennbar sind.

    Dixie

    Dixie die Häsin ist mutig, witzig und ein bisschen draufgängerisch. Ihre energetische Persönlichkeit passte perfekt zu einem Hasen und ihre riesigen Ohren und großen Füße verleihen ihr ein lustiges Erscheinungsbild.

    Ollie

    Ollie die Echse ist ein unerfahrener, etwas tollpatschiger Krieger, der stets gut gelaunt ist. Das Entwerfen einer Echse stellte eine gute Gelegenheit dar, ein wenig Farbe in die Auswahl der Helden zu bringen. Es hat sehr viel Spaß gemacht, sich Muster für seine Punkte und Streifen zu überlegen!

    Willow

    Willow der Specht ist eine scharfsinnige, ernste und etwas mysteriöse Kämpferin. Die Integration eines Vogelhelden hat unseren Animatoren die Gelegenheit gegeben, ein wenig Spaß mit den Animationen zu haben. Schaut euch nur an, wie sie ins Bild gleitet und sich auf typische Weise ruckartig bewegt, wie es auch Vögel tun.

    Unter die Lupe genommen

    Als wir uns auf das Design der Helden festlegen mussten, stellten wir relativ schnell fest, dass tierische Helden am besten in unsere Welt passten. Nach dieser Entscheidung mussten wir zunächst herausfinden, welche Art von Tieren sich am besten als Helden eignen. Wir haben dabei aber auch festgestellt, dass uns die Tiere auch vor einige technische Herausforderungen stellen würden.

    Die größte davon lag darin, wie wir unterschiedliche Größen und Proportionen erzielen und dabei für die Animationen dasselbe Skelett verwenden konnten. Unten könnt ihr sehen, welche verschiedenen Charakterstile wir uns haben einfallen lassen. Anhand dieser Stile konnten wir herausfinden, welche Helden mit denselben Animationen funktionieren und dabei gleichzeitig noch genügend Spielraum zwischen den verschiedenen Tierarten lassen würden.

    Die Helden besitzen nur geringe Unterschiede in ihren Startwerten (z. B. Geschwindigkeit und Angriff). Indem wir die Größen und Proportionen der Helden nicht zu stark voneinander abweichen ließen, wollten wir als Designer also auch sicherstellen, dass nicht der Eindruck entstehen konnte, dass diese Werte durch das Erscheinungsbild der Helden beeinflusst werden.

    Die Gegner

    Was wäre eine Prüfung ohne Gegner? ReadySet Heroes ist da keine Ausnahme! Während des Dungeon-Crawl-Teils des Spiels müssen die Spieler ihren Weg durch mehrere verschiedene Welten finden, von denen jede über ihre eigenen Widersacher verfügt. Die Grafik- und Spieldesigner haben eng zusammengearbeitet, um sich gemeinsam Gegner zu überlegen, die sowohl optisch unterhaltsam als auch herausfordernd im Kampf sind.

    Unser Entwurfsprozess war dabei sehr organisch, um so die Kreativität zu fördern. Das Designteam traf sich mit den Grafikern der Concept-Art, um sich über ihre ersten Ideen zu unterhalten und darüber, welche Kreaturen am besten in welche Welt passen. Anschließend haben die Grafikdesigner einige grobe Entwürfe für Gegner angefertigt, die zu den Spielmechaniken passten, die sich die Spieldesigner überlegt hatten. Lasst uns einen Blick auf einige der Gegner werfen, denen ihr begegnen werdet.

    Der Waldsprössling

    Diese Kerlchen sind zwar klein, aber sie sind genauso entschlossen und bissig wie alle anderen Gegner. Wir haben es mit einigen verschiedenen Farbschemas versucht, bevor wir uns schließlich für eine Kombination aus Pink und Grün entschlossen haben, was sie wirklich als Bewohner des Waldes kennzeichnet. Selten werdet ihr einen Waldsprössling alleine antreffen, und obwohl sie nicht zu den stärksten Gegnern zählen, können ihre Speerattacken gerade in größeren Gruppen eine echte Herausforderung darstellen.

    Das Skellie

    Das Skellie ist genau die Art von Geselle, der man nachts auf einem Friedhof nicht begegnen möchte. Skellies waren die ersten Gegner, die wir entworfen haben. Die übertriebenen Proportionen ihrer Köpfe und Körper legten den Stil für den Rest der Gegner fest. Diese Gegner wandern umher, bis sie einen Spieler erblicken, und greifen diesen dann mit ihrem Breitschwert an.

    Die Lavaschildkröte

    Lavaschildkröten sind nicht gerade die schnellsten Kreaturen – wenn ihr allerdings nicht in Flammen stehen wollt, solltet ihr ihnen trotzdem aus dem Weg gehen. Sie sind auf den Pfaden der Höhlenwelt zu finden und greifen euch an, wenn ihr ihnen zu nahe kommt. Ihre harten Panzer machen sie wesentlich hartnäckiger zu besiegen, als man vielleicht vermuten würde.

    Der Schleimritter

    Der Schleimritter ist ein hervorragendes Beispiel für unsere Herangehensweise beim Entwerfen von Gegnern. Die Spieldesigner haben nach einem größeren Charakter gefragt, der zwar langsam, dafür aber extrem stark ist. Ein Rüstung tragender Gegner passte perfekt zu den anderen Kreaturen, die man in den Räumen und Gängen des Schlosses finden kann.

    Um dem Ganzen noch das gewisse Etwas zu verleihen, hatten die Concept-Art-Grafiker die Idee, den lila Schleim, den wir bereits für das Schoss entworfen hatten, von der Rüstung Besitz ergreifen zu lassen. Dadurch entstand schließlich der Schleimritter in seiner aktuellen Form. Macht nicht den Fehler, diesen Gegner zu unterschätzen, denn schon ein einziger Schwung seines Streitkolbens kann verheerenden Schaden anrichten.

    Ich bin Hannah Nicklin, Autorin und Story-Designerin bei Die Gute Fabrik. Dieses Jahr konnten wir bereits voller Stolz unser neues Spiel
    Mutazione     im GDC-Teaser-Trailer ankündigen. Da der Veröffentlichungstermin immer näher rückt, wollten wir euch eine der besonders interessanten Spielmechaniken von Mutazione näher vorstellen – und dazu gibt es hier exklusives Bildmaterial:

    Magische Musikgärten

    Im Spiel übernehmt ihr die Rolle von Kai, die sich auf die Reise zur merkwürdigen und geheimnisvollen Gemeinde von Mutazione begibt, um dort ihren kranken Großvater Nonno zu besuchen. Hier gibt es jeden Tag eine Menge zu tun: Ihr könnt das Dorf erkunden, mit den Bewohnern sprechen und eine Woche lang im Spiel dramatischen Ereignissen folgen oder einfach nur die schöne Aussicht genießen.

    Doch während ihr euren Großvater wieder gesund pflegt, enthüllt ihr nach und nach lange gehütete Geheimnisse und findet heraus, dass Nonno seine seltsamen schamanistischen Praktiken an euch weitergeben will …

    Denn in Mutazione könnt ihr mit der richtigen Ausbildung – und wenn ihr eine Affinität dafür habt – die Pflanzen wachsen hören.

    Nonno lehrt euch, wie ihr das Wachstum der Pflanzen beschleunigen könnt, und bringt euch bei, wie ihr Gärten so gestalten könnt, dass sie richtig aufblühen.

    Singende Samen

    Ihr könnt die Samen Dutzender Pflanzen finden – sowohl in der Natur als auch bei anderen Charakteren. Dazu gibt es eine ganze Pflanzenenzyklopädie, in der ihr alles über ihre Eigenschaften findet.

    Jede Pflanze im Spiel besitzt ihr eigenes „Instrument” – eine bestimmte Reihe an Tönen und Melodien, die abgespielt werden, wenn ihr sie in eurem Garten einpflanzt. Wenn ihr also euren Garten zusammenstellt, könnt ihr eure ganz eigenen atmosphärischen Musikstücke komponieren.

    Die musikalischen Gärten wurden von Alessandro Coronas komponiert und entworfen, der sich hierbei vor allem von der Natur inspirieren ließ. Das Team hat sich auch von der Musikrichtung Ambient prägen lassen, vor allem von Brian Enos Klassikeralbum Music For Airports. Wir wollten ein Adventure-Spiel mit Story-Fokus erschaffen, in dem Spieler ihrer kreativen Ader freien Lauf lassen können.

    Die Pflanzen spielen einen Mix aus künstlich erzeugten Tönen und Aufnahmen echter Instrumente (z. B. Gitarren, Streichinstrumente). Unterschiedliche Pflanzenarten spielen verschiedene harmonische Töne ab, was zu einer Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Stimmungen, Strukturen und Emotionen führt – vom melancholischen Orchester in Moll bis hin zu ruhigen Akustikgitarren in Dur.

    Ihr könnt euch so viel oder so wenig mit den Gärten beschäftigen, wie ihr wollt. Manchmal will man einfach nur die Story vorantreiben, aber ihr könnt jederzeit zurückkommen und euch weiter austoben. Und wenn ihr einfach mal ein bisschen der Hintergrundmusik lauschen wollt, während ihr Pause macht, setzt euch einfach im „Zuhören”-Modus hin und lasst eure atmosphärische Komposition auf euch wirken.

    Wir können es gar nicht erwarten, bis ihr das Spiel endlich selber spielen könnt. Deshalb freuen wir uns auch schon unglaublich, schon bald das Veröffentlichungsdatum bekanntgeben zu können. Dann stellen wir euch auch die liebreizenden Mutanten vor, mit denen ihr euch im Spiel anfreunden könnt.

    Alle, die in unserem globalen Team an Marvel’s Avengers arbeiten, sind stolz darauf, nun offiziell das komplette Material der A-Day-Demo weltweit veröffentlichen zu können – die Avengers verteidigen darin San Francisco, und es wird einer der schlimmsten Tage, die das Superhelden-Team je erlebt hat.

    Der Großteil des Videos spielt auf der berühmten Golden Gate Bridge, wo Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America und Black Widow eingreifen, nachdem ein merkwürdiger Angriff die Feierlichkeiten am A-Day unterbricht, bei denen ein neues Avengers Headquarters eröffnet und experimentelle Helicarrier-Technologie vorgestellt werden soll.

    Die Sequenz dient als Tutorial-Level und Prolog für Marvel’s Avengers und soll einen Vorgeschmack darauf vermitteln, was Fans im Spiel noch erwartet.

    Wir wollen uns bei allen bedanken, die geduldig darauf gewartet haben, dass wir offiziell Gameplay-Aufnahmen online veröffentlichen. Wir wissen, wie heiß ihr darauf seid, Marvel’s Avengers in Action zu sehen und einen besseren Einblick in die einzigartige Spielweise jedes Avengers zu erhalten.

    Seit der Vorstellung auf der E3 hat das Team den Prolog auf Hochglanz poliert, damit er die maximal mögliche Qualität hat, und wird das auch weiterhin mit dem gesamten Spiel machen, bis es am 15. Mai 2020 erscheint. Wer unsere Demo auf der E3 oder beim Panel von Marvel Games in Halle H beim San Diego Comic-Con gesehen hat, bemerkt hoffentlich die Updates und Verbesserungen, die wir an Wiedergabetreue, Charaktermodellen, Animationen und vielen weiteren Details vorgenommen haben.

    Und jetzt wollen wir genauer erkunden, was ihr in dem Video alles gezeigt bekommt! Thor, der Gott des Donners, ist der erste Held, mit dem ihr am A-Day in den Einsatz zieht. Mit seinem magischen Asgard-Hammer Mjölnir schmettert er Gegner mit gewaltiger Kraft und gnadenlosen Würfen zu Boden.

    Eine von Thors einzigartigen Fähigkeiten besteht darin, einen Gegner mit Mjölnir am Boden festzunageln, während er sich weiterhin zum Sieg schlägt und tritt. Thor kann Mjölnir jederzeit zu sich rufen, und dieser fügt dann auf seinem Rückweg jedem Gegner Schaden zu. Als Gott des Donners kann Thor zudem unter anderem Blitze beschwören, die in alle Gegner um ihn herum einschlagen.

    Iron Man ist der Nächste! Der gepanzerte Avenger steigt in den Himmel auf, um fliegende Feinde abzuwehren, während er gleichzeitig Raketen ausweicht, die gezielt auf ihn zurasen. Ähnlich wie Thor kann auch Iron Man sowohl in der Luft als auch am Boden kämpfen, und er setzt dabei eine Kombination aus Repulsor-Schüssen, Zielsuchraketen und seinem bekannten Unistrahl ein, um alle, wie er selbst sagt, “zweitklassigen Filmschauspieler” zu besiegen, die sich ihm in den Weg stellen.

    Sobald die Bedrohung durch Pulsar-Panzer auftaucht, kommt Bruce Banner zum Einsatz – er verwandelt sich in den Hulk und stürzt sich ins Getümmel. Von unbändigem Zorn erfüllt, wie es in der Natur des Hulk liegt, greift er sich mühelos Gegner und benutzt sie als Waffe gegen andere Feinde um ihn herum. Er kann sogar zwei Feinde hochheben und gegeneinander schlagen, eine wilde Demonstration seines Satzes: “Niemand sein stärker als Hulk!” Auch Gegner in der Distanz haben Grund, in Deckung zu gehen, denn der Hulk kann Gesteinsbrocken aus dem Boden reißen und mit vernichtender Wucht werfen.

    Während des Angriffs auf die Golden Gate Bridge hat es Captain America mit verdächtigen Vorfällen an Bord des Chimera-Helicarriers zu tun. Er gerät in einen Hinterhalt, schaltet seine Verfolger aber aus, indem er seinen berühmten Schild wirft, im Nahkampf brilliert und ihnen mit einem Schildschlag auf den Boden den Rest gibt.

    Am Ende gibt sich der böse Taskmaster den Avengers zu erkennen und droht mit der Zündung einer Schallbombe, die den Großteil der Stadt dem Erdboden gleichmachen würde. Black Widow erkennt den “Freak mit der Maske” und macht sich daran, die Bedrohung zu eliminieren. Es gelingt ihr, auf ihn zu springen, während er durch das Chaos auf der Brücke fliegt.

    Nachdem Black Widow professionell sein Jetpack ausgeschaltet hat, nutzt sie ihre Wendigkeit und ihre Hightech-Spionageausrüstung, um Taskmaster zu schwächen, doch der hat dank seiner fotografischen Reflexe einige Moves der Avengers gelernt, wie zum Beispiel Captain Americas Schildwurf. Doch bevor er noch weitere aufnehmen kann, nutzt Black Widow ihren Verstand, macht sich unsichtbar und kann letztendlich über ihn triumphieren.

    Sie rettet die Brücke, indem sie die Schallbombe entschärft, schaltet Taskmaster mit ihrem Widow’s Bite-Handschuh aus und führt anschließend das Team zur nächsten Bedrohung.

    Als die Avengers erkennen, dass Taskmaster nur ein Ablenkungsmanöver war, ist es bereits zu spät. Die Avengers auf der Brücke müssen entsetzt mit ansehen, wie der Helicarrier explodiert – mit Captain America an Bord. Sie wissen es zwar noch nicht, aber der wahre Schurke, der am A-Day die Fäden gezogen hat, war Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). Diese langjährige Bedrohung im Marvel-Universum ist davon überzeugt, dass die Welt von der Wissenschaft gerettet werden wird, nicht von Superhelden. Die Spieler stehen nun in Marvel’s Avengers vor der Aufgabe, die mächtigsten Helden der Erde wieder zusammenzubringen und gegen AIM anzutreten.

    Wir haben noch viel mehr zu zeigen und werden die Demo an Orte auf der ganzen Welt bringen, damit ihr sie spielen könnt!     Talking About Cooperating to Rebuild Humanity with Remnant: From the Ashes Development Team

    Remnant: From the Ashes is a third-person survival action shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monstrous creatures. Available now on Xbox One, challenge-seeking players can look forward to 100+ unique enemies, 20+ epic bosses, and endless adventure. Gunfire Games Principal Designer Mike Maza breaks down how challenging, shared experiences are as good as any loot in the game.

    Jared Browar, Community Manager: What’s the difference between Remnant when played solo, vs when played with up to two other survivors?

    Mike Maza, Principal Designer: The game will automatically scale the strength and quantity of enemies as each player joins the group. This ensures that the overall balance of the game remains consistent whether it’s played solo or as a group. A team of three heroes, working in concert, can bring a tremendous amount of firepower to the table so we’ve worked hard to create a system that can match that potential with increasingly challenging creature combinations – some of the most difficult and gratifying fights in Remnant are found in multiplayer. To offset that greater challenge, the quantity of rewards and the likelihood of finding rare and coveted items are increased as more and more heroes are involved.

    JB: Why add multiplayer? What layers of depth does 3-player co-op add to the game?

    MM: We believe games, in general, are at their best as shared experiences. The social aspect of playing a game with friends (or even random strangers) reinforces the need for communication, teamwork, and camaraderie. There are few gaming experiences as rewarding and elating as overcoming a difficult challenge as a team. Remnant’s 3-player cooperative game mode gives players a chance to develop characters that mesh well together – characters that enhance each player’s specific playstyle and fill the need of the group as a whole. A team that eschews defense in favor of offense can experiment with that combination to see how they fare in Remnant’s diverse encounters. By the same token a defensively oriented group might experience a very different set of challenges when faced with similar confrontations. There is no wrong or right mix of characters in Remnant… just different ways to approach the brutal and rewarding encounters the game has to offer.

    JB: How does loot work with a team? Is it shared, instanced, etc.? Describe the design philosophy behind this decision.

    MM: Any loot picked up by a player in Remnant is distributed equally amongst all players in the group. If someone takes the time to search every nook and cranny of a dungeon and collects a sniper rifle, for example, every other member of the team also receives the weapon regardless of where they are on the map. The same holds true for armor, mods & trinkets, consumables, resources and Scrap – the game’s currency. There were long impassioned discussions on the merits and flaws of shared or instanced loot but, in the end, the team as a whole decided that this treatment of instanced loot was the best approach for encouraging teamwork and rewarding players for taking calculated risks that might benefit the group.

    JB: How do Remnant’s shared worlds benefit co-op players? Describe how players will be able to conquer more of the game’s challenges and earn more loot by jumping into another survivor’s world.

    MM: A single playthrough of the main story campaign won’t expose a player to all of the different quests, rewards, events and creatures found in the game. There’s so much content in Remnant that it’s not a guarantee that a player will experience everything the game has to offer even after multiple playthroughs. As we develop additional downloadable content for the game, this will be even less likely. Each time players generate new campaign worlds they might uncover quests and enemies that some or all of the group have never seen before… and we make it seamless and easy for them to jump right in and meet those new challenges together.

    Tips and Tricks for Rad, Available Now on Xbox One

    Step forward brave soul, into the world of Rad, available now on Xbox One. You have been chosen to save the future of humanity, but to do so you must venture into The Fallow, an ever-changing, radioactive wasteland filled with unknown and unspeakable creatures. Surviving this nightmarish landscape will be tough, especially as you’ll be exposed to gnarly toxins which will wreak havoc on your fragile human form, twisting and mutating you into something far less than human, but far more powerful.

    But don’t worry about all that, we’ve got your back! Just follow some of these helpful tips and tricks and you’ll almost certainly be totally fine. Probably.

    Tip 1: Use all your Melee moves!

    • Mutations are the real power in the game, but you will always have your bat. It is critical at the start of a new run, but also gives you another option to pair with your mutations. You’ll unlock new bats with different bonuses as you play too!
    • You have lots of moves available, try different moves on different enemies, some are more susceptible to a good kicking than others.
    • You have a 3 hit combo. The third hit does more damage, but make sure that you can land it as it takes longer to execute and can leave you vulnerable against quicker enemies.
    • Lunge Attack. Jump attack at a fixed distance, doing double damage!
    • Ground pound. Affects all enemies within a radius. Do it from higher elevation to have a bigger area of effect!
    • Jump kick. Can hit multiple enemies at once. Be careful not to jump off a cliff though!
    • Charge attack. Charge your bat by holding the melee button, then unleash it on multiple enemies.

    Tip 2: Covet thy floppy

    • Floppy disk are keys in the game and are useful for different things.
    • You can use them to open Chests containing power-ups and other items, some chests take more floppies than others, so use them wisely.
    • Floppies open bomb shelters and caves where all sorts of treasures and secrets lie within. You might be able to even find some alternate paths through the level.
    • Floppies open Special chests in boss arenas –Save keys for boss arenas if you’re low on health or if you think you have a difficult foe coming up. Boss chests almost always contain healing items!

    Tip 3: Fast Loot Vehicles

    • Ground pound a vehicle to slam all its doors open at once and spilling its valuable contents on the floor. This is faster than opening them one by one and is far cooler.
    • Getting up on cars can protect you from mutie attacks and give you a good launch point for ground pounding them into oblivion.

    Tip 4: Upgrade Your Town

    • Town upgrades persist across runs and can really help your chances out in the Fallow!
    • MAC runs the bank. MAC is the bank. Deposit your cassette tapes (currency) into the bowels of MAC and withdraw them on later runs, whenever you are in town. Your membership level will increase the more tapes your deposit with MAC and you will be granted additional privileges, such as being able to use a charge card to buy items from vendors if you’re low on tapes (for a nominal fee, of course).
    • Shermie runs the town shop. You can buy items from her on your way out to the wasteland. The more items you buy, the more her inventory will expand over time. She’ll also invest some of your hard-fought cassettes in signage. Neon!
    • There are even more areas of town that you can upgrade over time, be sure to explore a bit and talk to the townsfolk, but don’t be surprised if they are a bit put off by your bulging mutations.

    Tip 5: Read up!

    Rad is a big game with a lot of mutations, items, muties, and characters. How do you keep track of it all!?

    • Access your Notebook from the Pause Menu to see what Exo-Mutations, Endo-Mutations and Items (Consumables and Artifacts) your character currently has. You can read up on some of the details about exactly what they do!
    • You also have access to the Tome of the Ancients, a more expansive volume that lists everything you’ve ever found, across all your runs. You can read up on the origin of some of the mutants, replay any lore or endings you’ve found, or just see what is left to find!

    Tip 6: Happy Trails

    • As you move through the world, your body absorbs Rads and leaves behind a trail of verdant growth; you are healing the wasteland just by walking through it.
    • This trail isn’t just a pretty face, it’s also useful for finding your way around Rad’s open environments.
    • Running on top of your trail speeds you up, making for quicker re-traversal, longer jumps, and more maneuverability in combat
    • Fruit can grow in your trail! It can be hard to spot, but each biome has different fruits that can be picked up and used for different things, like healing, which is handy, but also bombs, which are more fun. There’s also a certain someone in town who’s interested in starting a farm.

    Rad is out on August 20. That’s real soon, like now, and everyone is counting on you, so go grab that sweet bat and help save the world…or what’s remaining of it anyway!
