This is the spirit behind VIVE and VIVE Reality, which we first presented at the 2018 Mobile World Congress (MWC). 

VIVE Reality is a vision driven by technologies including XR, AI, blockchain, and high-speed connectivity, and we have devoted substantial resources to innovate in these key areas. One example is our portable 5G network, REIGN, which was just introduced at the recent MWC.

VIVE Reality, however, has evolved over the last several years. We now picture a world where technology fades to the background and experiences come to the forefront. Where we can push the boundaries of creativity, and also collaborate, play, learn, and dream.

We call this immersive and boundless universe VIVERSE: a seamless gateway to our fantastic experiences and also other universes in collaboration with our partners. VIVERSE is an open platform created by the people, owned by the people, and shared by the people.

A Day in VIVERSE with Pearly 

Pearly is an accomplished executive and a mother of three. She strives to find work-life balance in the real and virtual worlds. 

7:00 am

Her day starts with a guided meditation on a majestic Icelandic glacier, which she had hiked three times in real life. With VIVERSE, she can revisit the glorious adventure every morning.

A little me-time to focus on herself before her children are awake, and find calmness and inspiration for the day ahead. Although it’s hard to beat the actual experience, VIVERSE makes memorable moments accessible from the comfort of her bedroom.

7:30 am

Rejuvenated and ready to start the day, she strolls along the streets of a photorealistic Prague via a personalized avatar. She heads to the Mucha Museum, where she bought an NFT of a classic Alphonse Mucha on VIVE Arts. 

7:50 am

While walking around the museum, a song by her favorite band pops into her head. Let’s buy tickets for their live concert next week on Beatday. She will be able to enjoy an epic experience with friends and fans from all corners of the world.

8:00 am

After a family breakfast, her kids go on a virtual field trip to the Louvre. Pearly studied in Paris many years ago, and also visited the Louvre in 2019 when VIVE launched the Mona Lisa: Beyond the Glass VR experience. Now in VIVERSE, her children can also experience the city’s beauty. 

9:00 am

Environment plays a vital role in learning a foreign language. Pearly’s children find it much simpler to pick up French in a virtual and gamified representation of Paris, where the virtual residents are always happy to strike up a conversation. Achieving learning milestones further upgrades the children’s avatars with new skill sets and access to different experiences.

10:00 am

Pearly efficiently completes leadership training with an AI-powered virtual human in Talespin. A PricewaterhouseCoopers research has shown that training time is four times faster in VR than in traditional physical settings.

11:30 am

She joins her team at the virtual campus to prepare for an upcoming customer presentation. The life-like presence and intuitive 3D design tools streamline the creative collaboration process.

12:30 pm

Pearly joins a virtual meeting with medical partners set on a tropical island over lunch. She sees the incredible progress of patients using their company’s pain management and physical therapy software with personalized clinician guidance. VIVERSE has made health checkups a more enjoyable process with a more effective clinical outcome.

3:00 pm

She dives into her tasks in a private virtual office, which comes with Lo-Fi environment options when she needs a moment of calm. Data visualization in a virtual space conceptualizes and clarifies the project’s upcoming responsibilities.

5:00 pm 

After work, she joins her parents, who live 9000 miles away, on a virtual Antarctic expedition. Her children tag along after swimming practice. Together they learn about emperor penguins and how climate change affects their habitat.

What a day! Pearly has accomplished her goals and much more and created incredible memories with family and colleagues.

HTC VIVE unveiled a number of innovations at Mobile World Congress 2022, including advances in 5G technology, in-car VR-based entertainment, Location Based Entertainment, and showing the latest updates to the Viverse. 

We are at the start of the next era of social interaction and content consumption, and VIVERSE is very much a part of that. Viverse, is our version of the metaverse; an immersive, boundless universe of fantastic new experiences, and a seamless gateway to other universes in collaboration with our partners from the time you wake up in the morning until the time you go to sleep at night. 

We’re announcing a number of innovations and products which make life seamless for people exploring Viverse, ranging from VIVE Browser – a new VR-based web browser, and VIVE Connect – a portal to experiencing the Viverse and traversing it, as well as VIVE Guardian – a new tool for VIVE Flow which makes life for parents, guardians and teachers easier by giving them new controls over what young people can see and experience in VIVE flow.  

We even introduced a new VIVE Avatar tool, build on VRM standards to make it easy for you to build a single avatar and take it with you into other services. We highlighted that by showing live demonstrations of people moving from VIVE Connect to VIVE Sync to Engage.  

We also showed off advanced 5G demos. Working with G Reigns and Supermicro, we built our own low-latency 5G network and powered several demonstrations. The Reign Core 5G solution is compact and highly portable, and played a starring role as live video from radio-controlled cars was delivered to drivers who were sat facing monitors away from the race track, with them making real-time steering adjustments over 5G.  

And speaking of cars, we put on a live demonstration of the latest work from holoride. Changing how in-car entertainment for passengers will work in the future – matching VR games and immersive videos to the motion of the vehicle, letting passengers enjoy content in lightweight immersive glasses, VIVE Flow.  

But that’s not everything when it comes to entertainment. VIVE also showed the latest from Yullbe Go / Europa Park for Location Based Entertainment, allowing five players wearing VIVE Focus 3 to roam the same map, interact and game together.

Location Based Entertainment (LBE) is a fast-growing attraction at arcades all over the world, using the power and versatility of VR to create unique immersive experiences for consumers. 

It makes perfect sense – instead of a large space being dedicated to more traditional games like Laser Tag which have a fixed physical layout and style, LBEs can constantly evolve and adapt and host multiple players and multiple games in the same space. In fact, the physical space can be reset in a matter of minutes so players can go from a jungle to a spaceship with very little downtime.  

HTC VIVE’s advanced work in hardware and software means blending the real and virtual world is effortless. VIVE’s new Wrist Tracker for VIVE Focus 3 adds a new dimension for either hand-tracking or being placed onto props so they can be used in games, whether that’s a tennis racquet, a shield, a weapon, and so much more.  

And with arUco codes it’s easy to integrate physical objects like obstacles and walls into the game as well – the camera on the headset sees the code on the object and imports the graphical textures. So players can physically lean up against something which looks like a blank wall in real life, but in VR is part of a spaceship’s bulkhead. 

VIVE Focus 3 is perfect for LBEs, delivering an incredible experience which just keeps getting better as we continue to roll out software updates and develop new features. VIVE Focus 3 supports Wi-Fi 6E, perfect for fast-paced action where low latency is essential. A dedicated LBE mode provides flexibility at the touch of a button, supporting multiple players in a game space of up to 1,000m2 – that’s the size of four tennis courts. And the playable area doesn’t even have to be a perfect square or rectangle, our software allows for complicated room shapes like polygons and even L-shaped spaces. 

Map sharing between headsets, Visual Optometry mode, and LBE hybrid mode mean businesses can create a unique experience effortlessly and have minimal turnaround time between games. Even the battery on VIVE Focus 3 is designed to be swapped in seconds so LBE arcades can keep headsets in near-constant use, and with a 5K display and 90 Hz refresh rate, people can enjoy stunning visuals even in the middle of non-stop action.  

At Mobile World Congress, we had a lot of fun with our friends at Europa Park with their Yullbe Go / MackNext products, showing off three different experiences.  

Alpha Mods: In the futuristic city of Ultraville, on a planet far from Earth, guests become part of a special police unit. Equipped with state-of-the-art cars, chase criminals on a wild chase with the “Alpha Mods” on Ultraville’s central highway. Buckle up, it’s going to be a rapid ride! 

Ed & Edda: Put on your VR headset and embark on a magical adventure in a completely enchanted Europa-Park: Ed and Edda need your help!  The Night Crab has stolen a precious magical sceptre and is upsetting everything with his magic. Through magical portals and with flying umbrellas you take up the chase. But be careful: you might wake up the dragon who is slumbering in a hidden cave deep under the park… Will you manage to stop the night crab and save Europa-Park? 

Moon to Mars: At the beginning, you are on a space station and can enjoy a breathtaking view of our Earth – thanks to the latest VR technology, this is no longer reserved for real astronauts! From here your experience “Moon to Mars” starts and suddenly you find yourself on the red planet. Explore the secrets and beauty of the planet Mars! Are you ready for your first journey into space?

HTC VIVE debuted a live demo of its latest additions to VIVERSE, that connects people from all walks of life to new worlds and experiences, at Mobile World Congress 2022. 

Attendees entered Viverse via a browser using multitude of devices such as tablets, PCs, smartphones, and using the VIVE Flow, HTC VIVE’s new immersive glasses. We showed just how easy it is to dive into new worlds and experiences as part of everyday life, across a wide range of devices. We also showed how people can seamlessly move between different venues in VIVE Sync and Engage. The latest Viverse demos illustrated how easy it is to travel between different worlds while maintaining identity, security, and privacy.

VIVE Guardian 

As the metaverse continues to expand, it’s important that the XR industry looks at ways to keep people safe. To secure the young people’s privacy and security in the metaverse, we introduced Vive Guardian, parental controls to help protect children from inappropriate behaviors and contents in the virtual world. 

There are two modes – Free Mode, and Broadcast. In Free Mode, parents can grant access to specific apps or pieces of content and then the user is free to explore within those apps. In Broadcast mode, a single experience – app or piece of content – is launched from the parent’s companion app and broadcast to the headset, so it’s easy for the kids to be watching a TV show or film on VIVE Flow, streamed directly from an Android tablet or smartphone.*  

And adults can remotely see what content is being used on the child’s VR device, through the parent’s companion app on their  Android smartphone – built using similar technology to our VIVE Business Training app. Children also must request permission to make purchases, download new content and more so there is greater transparency for kids and parents.   

No matter what age your children are, they shouldn’t be using VR without parental guidance. VIVE Guardian is designed to keep parents and children safe. It is important for parents and children to discuss the privacy and security risks that come with using any VR device. 

To enable VIVE Guardian on VIVE Focus, Focus Plus or VIVE FLOW, simply go to the Google Play store and Viveport to download the VIVE Guardian companion app for your Android device and headset, follow the prompts and VIVE Guardian will be automatically connected. 

HTC also plans to launch VIVE Create, a browser-based, code-free VR content creation platform that makes it easy to create customized VR content for families, as well as educational and training purposes.

5G continues to redefine industries, and open up new potential for how business is done, and how people enjoy themselves.  

As the technology becomes more advanced, HTC recognizes that the power of portable private 5G networks cannot be underestimated, whether it’s for employee training scenarios, design applications with real-time changes, or even remotely controlling machinery in hazardous environments. Every organisation across every sector can feel real-world benefits from low-latency highly-reliable private 5G networks. 

Building on the success of technical demos shown at CES, HTC unveiled its latest portable private 5G solution – the Reign Core – working closely with new HTC subsidiary, G Reigns, and in collaboration with Supermicro. 

Supermicro provided hardware as part of this collaboration, demonstrating the versatility of the new Reign Core 5G product. G Reigns has unique experience in the industry, across both mobile and XR, bringing that knowledge together to develop advanced software for private 5G networks.  

Reign Core is designed to work seamlessly with Open RAN, essentially allowing organisations to buy ‘off-the-shelf’ hardware components, such as Supermicro and Lumen Technologies, and then run tailored software to create their own private 5G solution, scalable to any size.  

Reign Core has a compact all-in-one footprint making it highly portable. And it can be set-up in just 30 minutes, making it perfect for location-based services, and even demonstrating a proof of concept. Powerful and flexible, Reign Core is complaint with 3GPP and O-RAN structure using an x86 base server to compose a 5G network system including 5GC, BBU, RRU and L3 switch.  

Reign Core powered several experiences at Mobile World Congress, including a scaled-down example of driving cars remotely. Using scale-model radio controlled cars, drivers were sat facing away from the track, watching two high-res video feeds of a first-person view and a top-down view – beamed over 5G – so they could steer the cars through the course. At the same time, the feed was also viewable on VIVE Flow headsets for spectators.  

The top-down view was filmed and broadcast via a new 5G AI Smart Camera , which is perfect for scenarios like sports stadiums where safety of large crowds is a priority. The 5G smart camera system works on Edge AI and is fully OSSA compliant.  

Simultaneously on the same private 5G network, we hosted a 5G Cloud VR demonstration, streaming PCVR quality to multiple VIVE Focus 3 all-in-one headsets.  

HTC VIVE is also expanding its strategic efforts with Lumen Technologies, continuing the success the two companies have enjoyed together.

Here are 7 simple steps to create your VR meeting on VIVE Sync:

Go to sync.vive.com and sign in with your HTC or social media account.

After you sign in, click “create meeting“.

Choose a meeting space based on your needs and preferences. Take a look at our meeting space intro to learn more about Sync’s different environments.

You can further customize your meeting by adding your company logo. The logo is displayed in your meeting space.

Enter the meeting details such as date, duration, and recurrence. When you are done, click “book room“.

Click “copy invitation” and share the meeting info with your participants.

You can find your meeting on your Sync calendar.

Go to sync.vive.com/download/ and download the VIVE Sync Outlook Add-In.

Open Outlook on your browser and open a new message. Click  •••  to open the function menu. At the bottom of the list select “Get Add-ins“.

Choose “my add-ins” on the sidebar.

Scroll down to the bottom and click “add a custom add-in“.

Go to Outlook calendar and click “new event“.

Click  •••  to open the menu and choose “VIVE Sync Meeting“.

Enter the meeting subject and choose room style and server. When you are done, click “book meeting“.

VIVE Sync Meeting details will automatically appear in the description box. After you double-check on the info, click “send“.

Over time its purpose changed back and forth, and it bore witness and host to key moments in history such as Napoleon Bonaparte crowning himself Emperor, was the setting of Victor Hugo’s classic – the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The centuries of history and exquisite design made an impression across the world, and in 2019 when a fire destroyed significant parts of the interior and exterior, the loss was felt far beyond the borders of France.

Globally, there was an outpouring of shock that such a cultural landmark was lost. France immediately began campaigns to fund rebuilding the structure, and it was natural that people would look at how to preserve the memories and experience of Notre Dame, beyond just photos and videos.

Through Emissive’s strong background at creating incredible interactive experiences, including ‘Mona Lisa: Beyond the Glass’ which was the Louvre’s first-ever VR exhibition, the company was selected to help bring Notre Dame back to life digitally. It took months of painstaking work to rebuild Notre Dame in VR, using high-res scans of the interior, and now the experience is ready to show to the world.
