Salutations to all of our demon slaying samurai and ninjas! We hope you’re enjoying your way through the latest DLC expansion for Nioh 2, Darkness in the Capital. While I’m sure you have your hands full with all of the challenging bosses and missions, not to mention the new difficulty level, we’ve been diligently working to bring you more Nioh content.

The thrilling conclusion to the Nioh 2 story and the third and final DLC expansion－The First Samurai, will be available on December 17, 2020*. Brace yourselves to take on some of the most challenging missions and formidable foes in the entire series, along with an added difficulty level that will give even the most seasoned veterans a run for their money. While you still have some time to prepare for this climactic expansion, I wanted to provide a bit of story context to give you a hint as to what awaits you in this next DLC installment.

A flash of light from Sohayamaru whisks the protagonist back to the past as a Visitor for the third and final time. They are brought back to the place their mother spoke of when they were very young, the land of the fabled youth that defeated an oni. Otakemaru’s past, the secret of Sohayamaru, and the truth behind the first samurai. All of these mysteries will be revealed, and the protagonist’s long journey will finally come to a climactic end.

As we approach the release of this third DLC expansion for Nioh 2, I am happy to announce that we will be releasing several titles to celebrate the series and give new fans a way to experience the entire Nioh story, from Nioh to Nioh 2, on PlayStation 5.

On February 5 2021, the following titles will be simultaneously released to celebrate the four year anniversary of the Nioh franchise:
- Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition (available on PlayStation 4)
- Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition (available on PlayStation 5)
- Nioh Remastered – The Complete Edition (available on PlayStation 5)
- The Nioh Collection (available on PlayStation 5)
Allow me to briefly summarize all of the exciting titles we will be bringing you early next year:

Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition will allow players to experience the comprehensive Nioh 2 story, including all three of the DLC expansions on their PlayStation 4 consoles.

For everyone that recently purchased the PlayStation 5 console, you will be able to experience the complete Nioh 2 adventure in Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition, along with a remastered version of the first entry in the series: Nioh Remastered – The Complete Edition. If you would like all of this content in one convenient place, we have the perfect title for all of your Nioh needs. Get ready to relive the entire series with all DLC included for both titles in The Nioh Collection for PlayStation 5.

All of the titles available on PlayStation 5 will support 4K resolution for crystal clear visuals, up to 120 FPS gameplay** for silky smooth combat, ultra-fast load times and the ability to transfer your data from the PS4 versions to pick up your journey right where you left off.

Pre-orders for Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition, Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition, Nioh Remastered – The Complete Edition and The Nioh Collection will begin on Friday, November 20, 2020 on PlayStation Store at midnight per your local time zone.

For those of you who are looking to continue your demon slaying journey in Nioh 2 onto PlayStation 5 from your PlayStation 4, there are two upgrade routes for you to take***:
- Players that own Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition on PS4 can upgrade to Nioh 2 Remastered – The Complete Edition on PS5 at no additional cost.
- Players that own Nioh 2 on PS4 can upgrade to the base game – Nioh 2 Remastered on PS5, and receive the PS5 version of any DLC expansions they own on PS4.
Upgrades for disc copies of PS4 versions are only available if you have a PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive***. To obtain your upgrade, you will need to insert your PS4 game disc into your PlayStation 5 console with Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive, navigate to the Game Hub and select the upgrade offer to download the corresponding digital PS5 remastered version of the game, which you can then play while your PS4 disc is in the drive.

If you purchase a digital copy of PS4 versions of the game, you can simply navigate to the Game Hub on your PS5 console and select the upgrade offer to download the corresponding PS5 remastered version. Note: you will need to log into your PS5 console with the same PlayStation Network account that you were using when you purchased the PS4 versions of the game.

Please note that Nioh 2 Remastered as well as the Nioh 2 DLC expansions for PS5 are not available for individual purchase.

While many of you may be sad to see the story of Nioh 2 arriving at its final chapter (I know I am), I’d like to thank all of our fans that have been by our side along this crazy journey from the release of the first Nioh right up until this milestone. Seid gegrüßt, Dämonenjäger, Samurai und Ninja! Wir hoffen, ihr habt viel Spaß auf eurem Weg durch die „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“, unsere neueste DLC-Erweiterung für Nioh 2. Ich weiß natürlich, dass ihr mit den fordernden Bossen und Missionen und vor allem dem neuen Schwierigkeitsgrad alle Hände voll zu tun habt, aber trotzdem arbeiten wir schon wieder fleißig an neuem Nioh-Content für euch.

Der spannende Abschluss der Story von Nioh 2 erwartet euch in der dritten und letzten DLC-Erweiterung „Der erste Samurai“, die am 17. Dezember 2020* erscheint. Macht euch bereit für einige der schwersten Missionen und mächtigsten Feinde der gesamten Serie sowie den neuen Schwierigkeitsgrad, der selbst den Veteranen unter euch alles abverlangen wird. Euch bleibt zwar noch etwas Vorbereitungszeit bis zum großen Finale, trotzdem wollte ich euch schon mal ein wenig zur Story erzählen und ein paar Einblicke geben, was euch im nächsten DLC erwartet.

Ein Lichtblitz aus Sohayamaru befördert den Protagonisten ein drittes und letztes Mal zurück in die Vergangenheit. Der Protagonist findet sich an einem Ort wieder, von dem ihm seine Mutter in seiner Kindheit erzählt hat – dorthin, wo eine sagenumwobene junge Kämpferin einst einen Oni besiegte. Otakemarus Vergangenheit, das Geheimnis von Sohayamaru und die Wahrheit über den ersten Samurai – all diese Geheimnisse werden aufgeklärt und die lange Reise des Protagonisten gipfelt in einem spannenden Finale.

Im Vorfeld der Veröffentlichung dieser dritten DLC-Erweiterung für Nioh 2 darf ich ankündigen, dass wir mehrere Titel für PlayStation 5 veröffentlichen werden, um die Serie zu feiern und neuen Fans die Möglichkeit zu geben, die Story von Nioh und Nioh 2 auf der nächsten Konsolengeneration zu erleben.

Werft einen Blick auf die neueste Erweiterung für Nioh 2 – denn die „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ beginnt heute

Seid gegrüßt, Yokai-Jäger! Heute darf ich voller Stolz die Veröffentlichung der zweiten DLC-Erweiterung von Nioh 2 verkünden: Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt. Und zur Feier dieser neusten Episode möchten wir euch zeigen, wie wir eine frische Perspektive auf diese weit zurückliegende Epoche der japanischen Geschichte geschaffen haben.

Während der Protagonist in „Der Schüler des Tengu“ seine Abenteuer gegen Ende der Heian-Zeit erlebte (794–1185), ist das neuste Kapitel in der Mitte dieses Zeitalters angesiedelt. Wir hoffen, dass ihr durch die Ereignisse aus der japanischen Geschichte, die ihr in der Welt von Nioh erlebt, die Story-Hintergründe der Serie noch besser verstehen könnt. Statt diese außergewöhnlichen Geschichten allein mit Dialogen und Text zu erzählen, haben wir beschlossen, alle Spieler, die das Hauptspiel gemeistert haben, mit diesen drei DLC-Erweiterungen auf ein brandneues und umfangreiches Abenteuer mitzunehmen.

Einer der bemerkenswertesten Aspekte von „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ ist der große Auftritt zweier bekannter historischer Persönlichkeiten: Minamoto no Yorimitsu und Abe no Seimei, der berühmten Yokai-Jägerin und dem mächtigsten Onmyo-Magier der Geschichte. Auch Yorimitsus vier Untergebene haben sich als furchtlose Krieger einen Namen gemacht, deren Siege über die Yokai in vielen Legenden von Generation zu Generation weiterlebten. Diese berühmten Figuren spielten eine wichtige Rolle zur Mitte der Heian-Zeit, als die Welt in Aufruhr war und Yokai Angst und Schrecken verbreiteten.

In der Welt von Nioh, wo die Helden mit Schwert und geballter Onmyo-Magie den Yokai-Horden entgegentreten, konnten wir als Entwicklerteam diesen bedeutenden und spannenden Abschnitt der japanischen Geschichte auf keinen Fall auslassen. Diese Story in genau dieser Zeit war einfach ein MUSS!

Eine der größten Herausforderungen bei der Entwicklung von „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ war die Tatsache, dass zu dieser Zeit zwar Samurai und Onmyo-Magier existierten, aber der Fokus damals eher auf dem Heian-Adel lag.

Auch wenn der Schwerpunkt sich damit von anderen Teilen der Nioh-Serie unterscheidet, kann diese Episode als exemplarisches Abbild der Heian-Zeit betrachtet werden. Hinter der vornehmen Fassade dieser Zeit verbargen sich Zerfall und Missgunst, sodass wir sie als Epoche voller Flüche und Gefahren darstellen wollten. Um das zu erreichen, haben wir uns verschiedener Aspekte bedient. Zum Beispiel greifen wir diese Elemente in Grafiken und Texten sowie in den Aktionen der Feinde auf, die euch auf eurem Weg begegnen werden. Wir haben die historischen Aspekte von „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ aufmerksam unter die Lupe genommen, denn die Geschichten dieser Ära sind im Vergleich zu jenen aus der Sengoku-Zeit weniger bekannt. Zudem wollten wir sicherstellen, dass sie korrekt wiedergegeben werden, damit die Spieler mehr über die japanische Geschichte lernen können.

Und einen kleinen Hinweis zur Story möchte ich euch auch nicht vorenthalten: Haltet nach einigen speziellen Bossen Ausschau, denen ihr vielleicht schon auf euren früheren Reisen durch die Nioh-Serie begegnet seid …

Zu guter Letzt haben wir viel Zeit und Mühe in die Entwicklung einer neuen Waffe investiert, auf die die Fans anderer Team Ninja-Titel, auch unserer Kampfspiele, schon lange gewartet haben. Ich freue mich, euch die Neuzugänge im Waffenarsenal präsentieren zu können: die Fäuste und die Klauenfäuste.

Mit diesen Waffen könnt ihr den Kampf buchstäblich in die Hand nehmen und selbst den härtesten Yokai in Grund und Boden prügeln! Die neuen Waffen sollen das Gefühl eines rasanten Faustkampfes vermitteln, und wir hoffen, dass ihr sie ausgiebig gebrauchen werdet. Unser Team ist viele verschiedene Kampfszenarien durchgegangen, um unseren Kämpfern diese neuen Waffen nahezubringen. Besonders viele Gedanken haben wir uns über die schwierige Entscheidung gemacht, wenn die Spieler wählen müssen, ob sie eine eher traditionellere Kampfausrüstung einsetzen oder die neuen Fäuste ausprobieren. Wir wussten, dass die Fäuste sich einzigartig und stark anfühlen müssen, um neben den vielen anderen Waffen unseres Arsenals hervorzustechen. Aus diesem Grund sind wir ganz gespannt auf den Nervenkitzel der Kämpfe, die euch erwarten, wenn ihr die vielen neuen Möglichkeiten von Fäusten und Klauenfäusten zum Einsatz bringt!

Schaut bald wieder rein, um mehr über die dritte und letzte DLC-Erweiterung für Nioh 2 zu erfahren. Wir können es kaum erwarten, euch noch mehr fordernde Boss-Kämpfe, denkwürdige Missionen und das mit Spannung erwartete Finale der epischen Nioh 2-Saga zu präsentieren. Take a tour of Nioh 2’s latest expansion, Darkness in the Capital, out today

Greetings yokai hunters! I’m proud to announce the release of Nioh 2’s second DLC expansion- Darkness in the Capital. And to commemorate this latest installment, we wanted to share some insights into our development process for creating a fresh new perspective into Japan’s distant past.

While The Tengu’s Disciple brought the protagonist to the end of the Heian Period (794 – 1185), our latest chapter brings them dead center into the middle of this era. We hope that by experiencing events from Japan’s past in the world of Nioh, you can all gain an even more detailed picture of the series’ lore. Instead of merely expressing this unique mythology simply via dialogue and text, we wanted to take all of our players that braved their way through the main game on a brand new and extensive adventure throughout these three DLC expansions.

One of the most notable aspects of Darkness in the Capital are the two renowned historical figures that make their grand appearance: Minamoto no Yorimitsu and Abe no Seimei, the famed yokai hunter and the most powerful Onmyo mage of antiquity. Yorimitsu’s four major subordinates also made names for themselves as fearless warriors for defeating yokai in many tales passed down through generations. These acclaimed individuals were very active during the midpoint of the Heian Period, an age where the world was in a state of disorder and yokai ran rampant.

In the world of Nioh where heroes take up their swords and make full use of Onmyo magic in order to battle hordes of yokai fiends, leaving out this significant and thrilling period from Japan’s history wasn’t even an option for us in the development team. This story, from this particular period, was a MUST!

One of the major challenges that we faced in creating Darkness in the Capital was that while samurai and Onmyo mages did exist during this period, it was also a time in history where more attention was placed on the Heian nobles.

While this focal point may differ from other parts of the Nioh series, this particular era can be seen as the quintessential depiction of the Heian period. Beneath the elegant surface of this period lied degeneration and deep-seated grudges, and as such we made sure to represent this period as one filled with curses and peril. We accomplished this through various aspects such as incorporating these elements into the visuals, text, as well as through the actions of the enemies you will encounter on your journey. We carefully researched the historical aspects of Darkness in the Capital, as stories from this time period are comparatively less well known to those from the Sengoku period. We also wanted to ensure that they were properly represented in order for players to learn more about Japanese history.

I also wanted to leave you with one small hint regarding the story: be on the lookout for some notable bosses you may have encountered from your previous journey through the Nioh series…

Last but not least, we’ve put a lot of thought and effort into designing a new weapon that fans of other Team Ninja titles, including our fighting games, have definitely been hoping for. I’m happy to introduce the latest additions to your arsenal- The Fists and Clawed Fists.

These weapons allow you to literally take the fight into your own hands and pummel even the toughest yokai into submission! We wanted to capture the feeling of fighting in a no-holds-barred fist fight with this new weapon, and we hope you’ll take them out for a spin. Our team carefully thought through many different scenarios for combat in order to present these new weapons to our fighters. In particular, the dilemma to choose the new Fists weapon or to go for a more traditional armed equipment was definitely something we contemplated over. We knew we had to ensure that Fists had its own sense of uniqueness and strength to stand out among the wide selection of other weapons in our roster. With that said, we look forward to the exciting new encounters players can experience as they explore all of the new capabilities that both Fists and Clawed Fists have to offer!

Nioh 2’s Darkness in the Capital expansion arrives October 15

Thank you guys so much for supporting our first expansion of Nioh 2, The Tengus’s Disciple. We’ve been hard at work to bring you the next exciting chapter in the Nioh 2 saga, and I’m happy to announce today that the second DLC pack, titled Darkness in the Capital will be available on October 15!

While I‘m sure many of you are engrossed in the current campaign and well on your way to becoming a formidable Yokai hunter in feudal Japan, brace yourselves as even more perilous adventures and insurmountable enemies await you within the capital of the kingdom in this thrilling new chapter.

Without further ado, let’s get into the new details for the brand-new quest awaiting all of our warriors. Darkness in the Capital features new storylines, overwhelmingly powerful new bosses, tricky new Yokai, new Guardian Spirits, skills, Ninjutsu, Onmyo Magic and Soul Cores. And to top it all off, this new chapter will present electrifying new armor sets and a weapon that fans of hand-to-hand combat will surely relish.

Now I’d hate to leave you guys completely in the dark on this upcoming DLC expansion. So, let me throw out some clues and story details to give you a taste of what’s on the horizon for this next installment.

In order to unravel the mysteries surrounding the history of the Sohayamaru, our protagonist ventures to Kyoto City and discovers a shrine furnished with an old worn-out box. Upon inspection, the Sohayamaru once again shines brilliantly and the protagonist is whisked away to the middle of the Heian Period, landing in an ancient version of the capital.

Contrary to its name “Heian Palace,” which means peace and tranquility, ancient Kyoto was terrorized by countless Yokai during this time period. However, there existed many heroes who were brave enough to oppose these demons. Among them were the most preeminent demon slayer and the strongest sorcerer in history, along with their subordinates and colleagues fighting at their side.

Our protagonist joins forces with these famous heroes in order to quell the unrest and destruction caused by the Yokai hordes, while learning more about the connections between an even more distant past and the present time period from which they came.

Ich danke euch allen für die Unterstützung bei der ersten Nioh 2-Erweiterung „Der Schüler des Tengu“. Wir haben viel Arbeit investiert, um euch das nächste aufregende Kapitel der Nioh 2-Saga zu präsentieren. Deshalb freue ich mich, nun das zweite DLC-Pack mit dem Namen „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ für den 15. Oktober anzukündigen.

Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass viele von euch noch tief in der ersten Kampagne stecken und alles daran setzen, es im feudalen Japan zu herausragenden Yokai-Jägern zu bringen. Doch ihr könnt euch schon mal gefasst machen auf noch gefährlichere Abenteuer und nahezu unbesiegbare Feinde in der Hauptstadt des Reiches.

Und jetzt ohne große Umschweife zu den Einzelheiten der brandneuen Mission, die all unsere Krieger erwartet. „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ bietet neue Storylines, unfassbar mächtige neue Bosse, hinterhältige neue Yokai, neue Schutzgeister, Fähigkeiten, Ninjutsu, Onmyo-Magie und Seelenkerne. Und obendrein gibt es in diesem weiteren Kapitel spannende neue Rüstungen und eine Waffe, die besonders Nahkampf-Fans begeistern wird.

Ich will euch bezüglich der Geschichte der neuen DLC-Erweiterung natürlich nur ungern komplett im Dunkeln lassen. Daher gebe ich euch ein paar Hinweise und Story-Details mit auf den Weg, sodass ihr einen Vorgeschmack auf die nächsten Abenteuer bekommt.

Um die geheimnisvolle Geschichte Sohayamarus aufzuklären, reist unser Protagonist nach Kyoto und entdeckt einen Schrein mit einer alten Kiste darin. Als er sie untersucht, leuchtet Sohayamaru wieder auf und der Protagonist wird auf der Stelle in eine antike Version der Hauptstadt in der Heian-Zeit zurückversetzt.

Obgleich der Name „Heian-Palast“ für Ruhe und Frieden steht, wurde das antike Kyoto in dieser Ära von unzähligen Yokai heimgesucht. Aber es gab damals viele Helden, die sich diesen Dämonen mutig entgegenstellten. Unter ihnen waren der größte Dämonenjäger und der mächtigste Zauberer der Geschichte samt der an ihrer Seite kämpfenden Untergebenen und Gefährten.

Unser Protagonist schließt sich diesen berühmten Helden an, um dem Schrecken und der Zerstörung der Yokai-Horden Einhalt zu gebieten. Dabei lernt er immer mehr über die Zusammenhänge zwischen einer noch weiter zurückliegenden Vergangenheit und seiner eigenen Gegenwart.

So, das war’s erst einmal. Ein kurzer Abriss der nächsten Abenteuer. Schaut immer mal wieder rein, um in nächster Zukunft weitere spannende Details zu erfahren, wenn wir hoffentlich mehr über „Dunkelheit in der Hauptstadt“ berichten können. Bis dahin wünschen wir euch viel Erfolg bei den Kämpfen gegen die furchterregenden Yokai in „Der Schüler des Tengu“ und der Entwicklung eines einzigartigen Builds für eure ganz individuelle Spielweise. How Team Ninja created Nioh 2’s The Tengu’s Disciple expansion

We hope everyone is enjoying their journey through Nioh 2’s first DLC installment, The Tengu’s Disciple. Today, I’d like to provide some perspective on our development team’s ambitious efforts to take all of you Yokai hunters back to the past in this exciting new trip through Japan’s fascinating history.

Nioh 2 and the original Nioh are both set during the turbulent and war filled Sengoku Period which featured two of the most powerful figures of this era, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The Tengu’s Disciple provides a new flavor to the story by taking players to the Heian period, hundreds of years prior to the Sengoku period, and allowing them to discover the mysteries surrounding the legendary whistle Sohayamaru and the powerful Yokai Otakemaru. While the Heian period brought with it new characters to meet and enemies to defeat, traveling back in time introduced several new challenges our team had to overcome.

A principal character in The Tengu’s Disciple — Minamoto no Yoshitsune, is one of Japan’s most famous heroes and has been featured in countless stories and kabuki dramas. Recreating Minamoto no Yoshitsune while also keeping with Nioh’s tradition of reimagining historical figures and events proved to be quite an undertaking. We hope you will discover and gain an understanding of this exciting character not only from the compelling story, but also from his dramatic actions and equipment as well. Test your might in an exciting battle with Minamoto no Yoshitsune and his Guardian Spirits, while trying to defeat this legendary figure!

In addition to reimagining historical figures, we also had to take into consideration what content we could and couldn’t use during this time period. Being unable to add in new variations of weapons that didn’t exist yet, such as rifles and hand cannons, or include Yokai that hadn’t appeared at that point in history were among some of the obstacles we faced. Despite the huge shift in the time period, we worked hard to ensure that our players could experience a fresh take on new enemies and collecting loot with badass weapons and armor in order to provide a meaningful new experience for the continuing saga.

And for our avid Yokai hunters, I am happy to introduce a Japanese fan favorite Yokai through this new DLC: Nuppeppo. This odd looking Yokai was initially considered for the original Nioh, but did not make it into the final game. We worked hard to recreate this monster and introduce it into the series as a formidable foe to test your might. Try to get your hands on its Soul Core and test out its cool new ability for yourself!

From all of us at Team Ninja, we hope that this voyage to yesteryears sparks a new interest in learning more about Japan’s history, and especially the Heian period through the exciting new areas and epic events that occur in The Tengu’s Disciple. Lastly, we know you are all eager to see what’s coming up, so I am happy to announce that the next DLC installment will be released this coming Fall! Wir hoffen, ihr genießt eure bisherige Reise durch das erste DLC zu Nioh 2 – Der Schüler des Tengu. Heute geben wir euch Einblicke in das neue und ehrgeizige Projekt unseres Entwicklerteams, das euch – die Yokai-Jäger – in die Vergangenheit führt und zu einer Reise in die japanische Geschichte einlädt.

Sowohl Nioh als auch Nioh 2 spielen in der kriegserfüllten Sengoku-Zeit und rücken zwei der mächtigsten Personen dieser Ära in den Mittelpunkt: Oda Nobunaga und Toyotomi Hideyoshi. „Der Schüler des Tengu“ sorgte für frischen Wind im Spiel, indem es die Spieler in die Heian-Zeit eintauchen ließ, die hunderte Jahre vor der Sengoku-Zeit liegt. Hier galt es, die Geheimnisse um die legendäre Pfeife Sohayamaru und den Yokai Otakemaru aufzudecken. Die Heian-Zeit brachte nicht nur neue Charaktere und Gegner mit sich, sondern stellte das Team auch vor so einige Herausforderungen.

Bei Minamoto no Yoshitsune, dem Hauptcharakter in „Der Schüler des Tengu“, handelt es sich um einen der bekanntesten japanischen Volkshelden, der in zahllosen Geschichten und Kabuki-Theaterstücken vorkommt. Da es sich Nioh zum Ziel gemacht hat, historische Figuren nicht nur in ins Spiel einzubauen, sondern auch neu zu erfinden, war dies kein leichtes Unterfangen. Wir wollen, dass unsere Spieler die Charaktere, die wir zum Leben erwecken, nicht nur durch die Geschichte kennenlernen, sondern auch durch deren Handlungen und Ausrüstungsgegenstände. In einem epischen Kampf mit Minamoto no Yoshitsune und seinen Schutzgeistern könnt ihr euer Können auf die Probe stellen und versuchen, diese Legende zu besiegen!

Zusätzlich zu den historischen Figuren war aber auch der zeitliche Bezug aller anderen Elemente wichtig. Viele der bekannten Waffen aus Nioh waren in der damaligen Zeit noch nicht erfunden, und auch bestimmte Yokai hatten noch keine Erwähnung gefunden, was natürlich berücksichtigt werden musste. Der Zeitsprung allein war uns noch nicht genug Abwechslung. Wir wollten sicherstellen, dass wir den Spielern jede Menge neue Gegner, krasse Waffen, Rüstung und andere Beute bieten, um die Saga um neue Erfahrungen zu erweitern. Ich bin sehr stolz euch – den begeisterten Yokai-Jägern – einen absoluten Klassiker in diesem DLC vorstellen zu dürfen: Nuppeppo. Diesen seltsam aussehenden Gesellen wollten wir ursprünglich schon für den ersten Teil verwenden, die Idee wurde aber verworfen. Mit viel Mühe haben wir dieses Monster umgesetzt und in die Spielwelt integriert, damit ihr euch mit ihm messen könnt. Versucht euch seinen Seelenkern zu schnappen und probiert seine coole neue Fähigkeit selbst aus!

Wir vom Team Ninja hoffen, dass das Spiel euch mit seiner Reise in die Vergangenheit dazu anspornt, mehr über die japanische Geschichte zu lernen. Mit „Der Schüler des Tengu“ und den dort gezeigten Ereignissen und neuen Arealen erhaltet ihr auf jeden Fall schon mal einen Einblick in die Heian-Zeit. I’m very proud of the work that our production team has put into this trailer and genuinely excited for you guys to check this out as it gives you a glimpse into some of the characters and backstory for our upcoming game. Let me give you some additional context before you settle down to watch the trailer. In order to help prepare you guys for your viewing pleasure, allow me to set the stage…

A war-torn realm haunted by evil spirits

It is the Warring States period in Japan. The year is 1555. Never-ending warfare has transformed the nation into a land of chaos infested by demonic yokai, evil spirits who feed upon their victims.

It is in this setting of relentless mayhem that we meet our protagonist, a rogue mercenary hunting down yokai in the Mino Province. This demon hunter hides a terrible secret: they are a half-breed, the orphan offspring of both human and yokai blood. Unable to find a place amongst mankind, our demon hunter journeys alone.

Calamity strikes one day as our protagonist loses control of their own yokai power while battling against a ferocious fiend. However, the dire situation is remedied by a wandering merchant by the name of Toukichiro who sells strange “Spirit Stones”; magic—imbued artifacts that can help the wielder communicate with yokai spirits. Our demon hunter regains control of their demonic persona.

From there on, the two decide to combine their abilities and set out together to find more of the powerful Spirit Stones, their quest being funded by an influential warlord to track down the artifacts to ensure they’re reserved for proper use.

Their mission is cut short by an attack from someone – or something – also seeking the stones. They escape thanks to the help of a yokai huntswoman named Mumyo, and the three find refuge in the Owari Province, eventually ending up in the service of the great Oda Nobunaga.

But their future plans will be short-lived and they will once more come face to face with diabolical forces who also seek the remaining Spirit Stones. The stage is set for this epic saga of our half-breed yokai hunter- “Hideyoshi”.

I’d like to share some exciting details regarding our upcoming DLC and Season Pass plans with you guys.

We have three major DLC releases planned, with each focusing on a different storyline that pre-dates the events of Nioh 2, promising hours of additional gameplay that will provide plenty of challenge for those thirsting for more.

Similar to the original Nioh, players can expect new weapons, new combat abilities and new characters, with each DLC incorporating both multiple main and sub-missions.

The three DLC packs are included in Nioh 2’s Season Pass, which forms part of the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition (now available for pre-order). In addition to the main game and DLC, you’ll also get premium in-game items such as the Demon Horde armor set and Kodama Netsuke Charm.

For players who purchase the Nioh 2 Special Edition, in addition to the main game and Season Pass, you’ll receive an exclusive SteelBook case and “The Art of Nioh 2” booklet.

How Nioh 2’s Open Beta Feedback is Improving the Game

Nioh fans, I just wanted to provide a message of gratitude on behalf of Team Ninja and myself to all of the folks who played our Nioh 2 Open Beta last month.

It was a tremendous learning experience for us as we carefully examined you guys playing the demo. We really appreciate the massive amount of responses submitted to our questionnaire after the play through. Our team has thoroughly read and reviewed everyone’s constructive feedback, and with that input we are working diligently towards fine-tuning the build for the final game. On a side note, the Nioh 2 Open Beta demo and its save data can now be deleted. For those of you who have earned The Mark of The Demon Slayer, rest assured it will not be removed even if the Open Beta demo data is deleted.

At this time, I’d like to give you guys a brief update on some key features that we are currently working to improve for the final version.

In order to address some of the portions that felt unreasonably difficult, we will be adjusting the balance for all Yokai actions and strengthening several of the special moves and making them more manageable to use. There will be modifications made to control the level of punishments in the Dark Realm such as adding merits where the maximum Ki damage is increased against enemy Yokai as well as the overall management of the player’s Ki will be refined.

These are just a few of the many improvements we are making as we will also expand and improve the tutorial elements, enhance the action and level design, add additional settings to the character creation system, improve the UI, sound, online mode and so much more… Needless to say, we are combing through every facet of the game, sharpening every detail to ensure that the final product is battle-tested for your enjoyment in the coming months.

Nioh 2 Hits PS4 March 2020, Open Beta Starts November 1

Hello everyone I’m Fumihiko Yasuda, the producer for Nioh 2. I’d like to share some incredibly exciting news with you all! First and foremost, I’m happy to finally announce our launch date of March 13, 2020.

I know many of you have been waiting and we thank you for your patience while we worked to set an official date. One of the primary reasons for not rushing to set a launch date was to ensure that we can achieve a “genuine evolution” from Nioh, which to us meant that we needed to bring in fresh new elements while retaining the things that we felt were right from the first game. Although there weren’t enough significant changes in the Alpha, we now feel that we have come much closer to reaching our goals.

Open Beta Details

With that being said, we would also like to give you guys a sneak peek at the game by releasing an open beta demo for you to try out. This open beta will be available from November 1-10 and is downloadable from PlayStation Store. All players will be able to experience new elements such as our extensive character customization feature, our newest weapon- the Switchglaive, and so much more.

As you begin the beta, you will enter into a place called the Interim. Unlike the dojo tutorial from the previous game, the Interim is a safe zone where you will be able to choose your weapons, test out the basic moves and transition to a real stage when you are ready.

This place was designed and based on the Tibetan Buddhist concept of intermediate, transitional state between life and death. I’m actually very fond of the environment we created which is modeled after the Sanzu river surrounded in tranquility (similar to the river Styx from Greek mythology).

As you move on from the Interim, you will start your journey in a stage called Sunomata. This stage is based on the Sunomata castle which by some accounts was constructed in just one night by Hideyoshi. The experience will be an interpretation of historical actualities combined with a healthy injection of Yokai adventure!

In addition, this new stage will treat you to an impressive environment covered in autumn maple leaves. In a similar fashion to the cherry blossoms stage (The Village of Cursed Blossoms), we had the great fortune of highlighting another stunning time of year within Japan’s four distinct seasons.

I hope that you will enjoy this stage and the open beta in November. If you are skilled and fortunate enough to conquer the beta, you will earn The Mark of the Demon Slayer – a reward entitling you to unlock the Kamaitachi Helmet from the in-game Shrine to use in the full game when it arrives next year. Although the trial time is limited, we sincerely hope that you can play the beta and provide your invaluable feedback to us by responding to the survey.

Also at this time you will be able to pre-order Nioh 2 from PlayStation Store, which will award you with valuable bonus items to use with the final game. For those of you who are new to Nioh, and want to discover the world around it, the original game will be available for free to PlayStation Plus members on November 5. As for the seasoned veterans, kindly guide the newcomers with your battle hardened skills.
