Mind-Bending Interactive Installation Looks to be Straight from TRON and Matrix!

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hakanai is an interactive installation like no other, as the images are on-stage animations that move in physical patterns according to the rhythm of the live sounds that they follow. In the Japanese language, Hakanai refers to that which is temporary / fragile, evanescent / transient, and in this case, something set between dreams as well as reality.

    Original Quote:

Hakanaï is a solo choreographic performance that unfolds through a series of images in motion. In Japanese Hakanaï denotes that which is temporary and fragile, evanescent and transient, and in this case something set between dreams and reality. While widely associated with nature, the term is now often used to elicit an intangible aspect of the human condition and its precariousness. It encompasses two elements: that concerning the human being as well as that related to dreams. This symbolic relationship is the foundation of the dance composition in which a dancer gives life to a space somewhere between the borders of imagination and reality, through her interactions with the images she encounters. The images are on-stage animations that move in physical patterns according to the rhythm of the live sounds that they follow. The performance’s outcome is the revelation of a digital installation to its audience.

With an all-electric powertrain that uses a lithium-ion battery to power two 2kW motors mounted in the front wheels, the i-ROAD’s battery can be fully recharged from a conventional domestic power supply in a reasonable 3-hours. The „Active Lean“ system uses a lean actuator and gearing mounted above the front suspension member, linked via a yoke to the left and right front wheels. There is also an ECU that calculates the required degree of lean based on steering angle, gyro-sensor and vehicle speed information, with the system automatically moving the wheels up and down in opposite directions, applying lean angle to counteract the centrifugal force of cornering.

Quelle: Ö3.at

Watch live video from Sternwarte_Peterberg on www.twitch.tv

Die nächste totale Sonnenfinsternis gibt es in Österreich erst 2081 (in Kärnten, Vorarlberg, Tirol, Salzburg und in den angrenzenden Teilen der Steiermark) zu sehen. In Wien erst wieder 2227.

    Also nicht verpassen 🙂

  • Contact lens with telescope might to increase peripheral vision in Future!

Contact lens with telescope might to increase peripheral vision in Future!

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

A revolutionary new contact lens with a built in telescope could help millions to regain their full sight. Just a wink of one’s eye is enough to zoom in or turn the telescope off, which increases peripheral vision three fold.

The new technology is set to help sufferers of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which can result in the loss of vision in the center of the visual field. This makes it difficult to read and recognize faces.

The 1.55mm thick lens contains an extremely thin, reflective telescope. Small mirrors inside bounce light around, expanding the perceived size of objects and magnifying the view, similar to looking through low-magnification binoculars.

It is very simple to operate with the lens working in conjunction with glasses. A simple wink of the right eye makes the telescope zoom in, while if the user winks with their left eye, then the telescope is turned off. “The most compelling reason why you would want to have this is to help people with serious visual problems, such as macular degeneration, or other retinal illnesses where people have severe vision loss,”said Dr. Eric Tremblay, who is a designer with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, which is based in Lausanne. “In a lot of cases magnification is very useful. So what people usually use are head-mounted telescopes which don’t work for everything,” which was reported by the Daily Telegraph.

The contact lens had an unlikely source for funding, with DARPA, the Pentagon’s research agency providing the cash. They wanted it to be developed to give soldiers a form of bionic vision.

“They were really interested in supervision, but the reality is more tame than that,” said Tremblay at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Jose. So far, only five people have tested the latest version, according to the Guardian.

This is the Largest Hubble Image Ever Taken, Views of Andromeda Galaxy!

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

What you’re looking at above is the sharpest and largest Hubble image ever taken. It stretches 48,000 light-years across the Andromeda Galaxy’s disk, and shows more than 100 million stars. This galaxy may be located 2.5 million light-years from Earth, but since Andromeda fills up so much of Hubble’s field of view, it was able to capture incredible detail in its survey of the galaxy. „Hubble traces densely packed stars extending from the innermost hub of the galaxy. Moving out from this central galactic bulge, the panorama sweeps from the galaxy’s central bulge across lanes of stars and dust to the sparser outer disk,“ said a Hubble representative.

According to Space.com, „The panorama was created as part of the Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) program. This image was created as a mosaic of 7,398 exposures taken over the course of 411 pointings of the telescope, according to Hubble officials.“

Officially called Hydnellum peckii, this non-toxic fungus produces spores on the surface of vertical spines or tooth-like projections that hang from the undersurface of the fruit bodies. Young fruit bodies can „bleed“ a bright red fluid that contains a pigment known to have anticoagulant properties similar to heparin.

With sky-high rents in central London, it made sense for the startup behind the project, Zero Carbon Food, to look for an unconventional farm site. And the location, beneath the Northern line, puts the produce near a lot of restaurant customers. That reduces the miles that food has to travel to reach the table. Zero Carbon Food is now selling stock online–you can see its full pitch below:

Teenager Develops Quantum Space Propulsion System That Doesn’t Use Fuel

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Aisha Mustafa, a young physicist from Egypt, has patented a next-generation quantum propulsion system that could send spacecraft to other solar systems without using a single drop of fuel. Mustafa says that this quantum effect can be harnessed with the dynamic Casimir effect, which utilizes a ‚moving mirror‘ cavity, where two reflective flat plates are held close together and then manipulated in order to interact with the quantum particles. By moving the silicon plates, energy is created out from nothing, and a net force is generated, which would be used to push, pull or propel a spacecraft.

Using bioluminescence as a marker in genetic modification is routine for good reason: it provides a very clear visual confirmation that the desired gene has been target correctly. A new application involves modifying the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster so that their antennae light up in the presence of cancerous cells. The report comes from lead author Martin Strauch from the University of Konstanz and was published in the journal Scientific Reports.

That’s “The Dialectic,” one of the hand gestures you’ll need to master to become a genuine thought leader.
