  • Trials Rising – Individualisierung und Spielfortschritt FAQ

Trials Rising – Individualisierung und Spielfortschritt FAQ

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBPwUav2mMw?feature=oembed&w=1140&h=641]

September – 16. September stattfinden wird auf trialsgame.com/beta.

Marvels Spider Man Review 3393264 spider man ps4

Let’s get right to it: Marvel’s Spider-Man, the latest effort from Insomniac Games is quite possibly one of the best superhero games of all time, and inarguably the finest game starring the wall crawler to date. It’s not quite the Arkham beater you might have been hoping for, but it comes pretty damn close in our eyes.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utVr-n0MaU0?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281][youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utVr-n0MaU0?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281]

Insomniac’s take on Spidey doesn’t attempt to tie-in to the comic books, or to the MCU version of the character played by Tom Holland. Instead, they’ve opted to create their own take on the character – one that fuses elements and characters from both the comic books and the movies.

The Peter Parker we see here isn’t a teenager, but an experienced crime fighter who’s put away his fair share of super-powered criminals. The game picks up as this more seasoned Spider-Man heads out to his final confrontation with the Kingpin, a brilliant little sequence that acts as an exciting tutorial, and sets up the thrust of the game’s narrative. With the Kingpin of crime locked up, how long will it take for the city’s criminal element to descend into chaos?

We won’t go into the rest of the story here, as there are plenty of genuinely surprising cameos and fan favourite characters that show up, and being surprised by these moments in the story is all part of the fun – especially for fans of Spider-Man lore.

Classic villains rear their heads in some of the most memorable and creative boss battles we’ve ever seen in a big budget video game, with Insomniac making fantastic use of Spidey’s unique powers to create thrilling and truly memorable set pieces that don’t rely on quick time events anywhere near as much as previous trailers for the game had led us to believe.

Even if you don’t have a GCSE in Spider-Man history, there are enough twists, turns, and suitably shocking character moments over the course of the 20 hour story to keep players invested, thanks in no small part to some fantastic vocal performances and detailed facial animations. This game truly has all the makings of a classic Spider-Man story, and by the time the credits roll, you’ll be desperate for a sequel.

Marvels Spider Man Review Spider Man 1

When you’re not playing through the story, you’ll be swinging across the city, catching thieves just like flies. We are happy to report that web swinging in this game is the best it’s ever been, and will absolutely recapture the thrill you felt the first time you explored New York in 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

Guiding the webhead through a beautifully realised New York City is an absolute joy, with fluid movements and tight responsive controls ensuring that you’ll be gracefully pirouetting your way across Manhattan in no time at all. Spidey’s animations are absolutely gorgeous, and Insomniac have smartly added a parkour button, which means if you swing into a building or any other solid object, you’ll simply bounce off or run over it and be on your way, without bringing your momentum to a grinding halt.

It’s also easier than ever to change direction or altitude while swinging, thanks to buttons that let you zip across buildings and grapple to certain ledges. The novelty of leaping off the tallest building you can find before shooting out a web line and swinging away at the last possible second still hasn’t worn off for us, even hours into the game.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5-_MvCWSfI?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281][youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5-_MvCWSfI?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281]

In fact, in our first few hours of play, we were too distracted by all the fun little side missions to even be thinking about getting on with the story. Don’t get us wrong, Marvel’s Spider-Man doesn’t reinvent the wheel in terms of open world activities by any stretch, but because the simple act of getting from A to B is so enjoyable,  you won’t mind the occasional repetitive crime or collectable.

After all, swinging along before jumping down to stop a random mugging or kidnapping before carrying on is what being Spider-Man is all about, and these random side events feel so seamless thanks to a smooth, fluid combat system, so they rarely disrupt your Spidery day. There are also civilians to save and car chases to get involved with, but we would have liked a little more variety in this area.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV2Ep4GzSrU?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281][youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV2Ep4GzSrU?feature=oembed&w=500&h=281]

Other side tasks besides your standard crime fighting involve hunting down backpacks from your old school days, and taking photos of famous landmarks across the city, including the Empire State Building and Avengers Tower – these aren’t particularly thrilling jobs, but they often throw up nice little Easter eggs for fans.

There are a couple of slightly more involved side-missions too, some of which involve a couple of lesser known Spidey villains – but the majority of these don’t really leave much of a lasting impression. Oh, there are also enemy bases to take, which offer waves of enemies which can be taken out using either stealth or… a louder approach.

Completing any of these fun little diversions will contribute to unlocking cool new suits and upgrading your gear to be the best Spider you can be, which means that everything you do while exploring the city will has some kind of tangible payoff, which might not be why Peter Parker does what he does, but we want the loot, dammit.

    Marvels Spider Man Review %name

Because Spider-Man is a modern AAA title, it obviously has unlockable skill trees and gear for you to upgrade. Much in the style of the Arkham games, you can get equipment that aids you with stealth, combat, and movement, with some really fun new gadgets that can picked up later on in the game, including impact webbing that pins enemies instantly to walls, and a Spider drone that will aid you in battle.

Combat is an absolute blast by the way, and makes the most of Spidey’s versatile set of powers. It takes a little getting used to at first, but you’ll soon be dodging, webbing, and punching your way through hordes of goons. The game particularly seems to reward players for paying attention to their surroundings in a fight, which we really like.

The webhead is often able to gain an advantage by throwing objects at enemies, or pulling heavy environmental hazards down to immobilise foes. Any bad guys that are close to walls can be webbed to them to take them out of the fight, while Spidey can even bounce off of objects to take out multiple threats at once.

Assessing the environment before a fight and then making the most of it can be the difference between life and death, as too many enemies attacking at once can overwhelm and take a real chunk out of your health.

    Marvels Spider Man Review %name

Stealth is slightly less fun than the straight up combat, but it still has its perks. Like the Arkham games, there are a multitude of gadgets and skills to help you screw with your victims as you creep overhead, and singling a foe out before webbing them to the ceiling without alerting the others honestly never gets old.

In terms of creating a rewarding interactive Spider-Man experience then, Insomniac has absolutely nailed it. Simply put, it has never felt this good to control the webslinger, with both movement and combat feeling better and tighter than they ever have in a Spidey game.

Marvels Spider Man Review spider man ps4 preview swing h 2018

One thing we can say is that for better or worse, is that the Peter Parker side of Spidey is a huge part of this game. Insomniac have clearly understood that Spider-Man’s secret identity is a vital part of the character, and have incorporated him into the gameplay.

There are sections where you’ll explore areas as Peter, learning more about other characters and even solving the occasional lightweight logic puzzle in the lab you work at, which nets you materials which can also be used to craft new equipment and suits. These parts of the game aren’t terrible, but they can interrupt the flow of all the web-slinging action, and – at times – come dangerous close to feeling like padding.

So too do the Mary Jane gameplay sections, which combine basic stealth and Uncharted style puzzles as our intrepid Daily Bugle reporter investigates the game’s larger mystery alongside Spider-Man.

These sections don’t take up a ton of time, and it’s nice to see MJ play a more active role in the story instead of being relegated to model/failed actress in distress, but you’ll likely once again be asking yourself why you aren’t webbing bad guys to walls and kicking them in the head at these points. Thankfully these areas are few and far between, and for the most part do come at times where the story could use something of a breather.

Marvels Spider Man Review 19eab5 Spider Man PS4 Iron Spider Rooftop

As the name of the game suggests, however, Spider-Man is the real star of the show here. Whether you’re out exploring the game’s massive open world and high-fiving New Yorkers on the street, or chasing down a stolen car while you listen to J. Jonah Jameson discuss your latest exploits on his unintentionally hilarious Alex Jonesesque podcast, Insomniac games have done an absolutely stunning job of creating a believable, lived-in world for the webhead to inhabit.

Simply put, Marvel’s Spider-Man is a triumph on almost every level. Even the occasional bit of padding in the story and some repetitive crimes can’t get in the way of a game that looks incredible, plays even better, and manages to tell one of the most exciting stories in a video game this year.

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3ricWI0KHE?start=4&feature=oembed&w=500&h=281][youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3ricWI0KHE?start=4&feature=oembed&w=500&h=281]

If you’re a fan of the webslinger, or even if you’re just after a truly polished and rewarding AAA experience to keep you busy for a week or two, you need this game. Spider-Man has honestly never been quite this amazing.

  • Die Hard 6 Is On The Way, And It Has A Very Boring Title

Die Hard 6 Is On The Way, And It Has A Very Boring Title

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Die Hard is one of the most revered action movies of all time, and is the film that made both Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman movie stars. Four sequels have followed, but most fans would admit that the most recent entries into the franchise haven’t exactly matched the high standards set by the 1988 original. Nevertheless, a sixth Die Hard movie is on the way, and we now know the title.

The news comes via Empire, who spoke to Die Hard producer Lorenzo diBonaventura. He revealed that the movie will be titled McClane, after Willis‘ character John McClane, and that it will be set in two different time periods. „You can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, ‚McCLANE’“ diBonaventura said. “We want you to get invested in John McClane more than ever before.“

The producer went on to explain that although the film will focus on the adventures of a younger McClane, Willis would still play a major role in the story. „I don’t know how you do Die Hard without Bruce,“ he said. „The idea that he’s not very significant in this movie is not accurate at all. We are gonna explore John McClane in his twenties. But just as prominent is the 60-year-old version.“

While McClane does not yet have a release date, Empire states that Len Wiseman, best known for the fourth Die Hard movie, Live Free or Die Hard, as well as the Underworld series, is attached to direct.

The success of Die Hard led to two sequels in the ’90s–Die Hard 2 (1990) and Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995). After 12 years, the series was revived with Live Free or Die Hard, which was followed by 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard. Despite bad reviews, the latter was a financial success, making $304 million at the worldwide box office.

EA has confirmed the Anthem release date as February 22, 2019. The game is a sci-fi action RPG that casts players as Freelancers, who are soldiers that are equipped with Javelins. These super high-tech Iron Man-like suits allow players to fly around environments and engage with enemies while completing quests either alone or with others.

Anthem gameplay was last shown at E3 (watch video of that showing above) However, following the show executive producer Mark Darrah answered questions from fans about the game. During the Twitter Q&As Darrah discussed loadouts, customization of Javelins, weapons, equipment, and more. You can read about all these Anthem gameplay details in our previous coverage.

  • Spider-Man PS4 Game’s Length Estimate Confirmed By Insomniac

Spider-Man PS4 Game’s Length Estimate Confirmed By Insomniac

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Insomniac Games community director James Stevenson has revealed PS4’s Spider-Man takes about 20 hours to beat. Stevenson unveiled the number when answering an inquisitive player’s question on Twitter.

It’s worth noting that 20 hours is the average taken from multiple play testers. Stevenson wrote that 20 hours is about how long it takes for someone to beat Spider-Man on the default difficulty and only when completing some quests and activities. Those that do more will take „a lot longer.“ So the 20 hour mark is for the average player who’s not looking to test themselves against the game’s most challenging combat or complete every optional objective.

To provide a comparison, most of Insomniac’s games are about 10 hours long. One of the more notable exceptions is 2014’s Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive–just under 20 hours on the default difficulty if you only do some of the side missions and gather a few of the collectibles. So Spider-Man is much closer in length to Sunset Overdrive than Insomniac’s other titles, like Resistance 3, Fuse, or 2016’s Ratchet & Clank. If you were hoping to beat Spider-Man in a weekend so you could get back to chipping at your backlog, it seems totally plausible.

Spider-Man releases exclusively for PS4 on September 7. If you’re looking for more information on the game, Kallie travelled to LA to interview Spider-Man’s creative director Bryan Intihar. She also got to play a segment of the game as Mary Jane, whose levels are something you should be really excited about.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw Gameplay Features Space Pirates, Dogfights, And More

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is the sequel to 2015’s Rebel Galaxy, and it brings much more to the table. In addition to dogfights and cruising to the game’s various radio stations, you can now do more at space stations. The game now features a main character, as opposed to the faceless, nameless pilot from the first game, and because of that, there is now a more fleshed-out dialogue system.

In fact, as you can see in this video, the character even reacts to things inside of her cockpit. She’ll do finger guns when she’s about to blow something up and even flip the bird from time to time. From what we saw at PAX West 2018, it seems to be a game that is brimming with even more personality than before.

Developer Double Damage Games also showed off the custom ship-painting feature, which allows players to import any image and use it as a stencil. Once you’re done painting, you can even buy a 3D-printed model with that custom paint job.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is but one of the games we saw at Seattle’s gaming convention, and you can check out the rest of them in our PAX West 2018 hub.

  • Freedom Planet Review — Speedy Ambitions

Freedom Planet Review — Speedy Ambitions

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

As a 2D platformer, Freedom Planet draws much of its inspiration from classic Sonic the Hedgehog. The game exhibits a riveting sense of speed, lively retro visuals and music, and clever level design packed with exciting touches. Challenging large-scale boss fights typically reserved for 2D side-scrolling shoot ‚em ups, such as Gunstar Heroes and Contra, are frequent and satisfying. There’s great ambition in what Freedom Planet manages to blend together, and while some of its highest moments are accompanied by a few blemishes that are difficult to look past, it’s still a joy to play.

Freedom Planet’s story starts out simple: when an alien force invades the peaceful planet of anthropomorphic protagonists Lilac, Carol, and Milla, the three are called upon to help thwart the tyrannical ambitions of its evil leader, Lord Brevon. Despite sounding rudimentary, the story makes a big show of itself with lengthy cutscenes interspersed between each of its 10 stages. There’s a great amount of detail written into the world and surrounding lore with characters and locations given more background than you’d expect.

Unfortunately, none of this development ever amounts to anything remarkable or intriguing, often relying on a bevy of tropes to push the narrative forward. What’s worse is the main cast’s painfully overacted performances, which results in a litany of cringeworthy moments in both funny and serious scenes. It is possible to play the game in Classic Mode, which removes all the story cutscenes. While this benefits the experience as a whole, you simply wouldn’t know this to be the best way to play the game without having experienced the mediocrity of its writing and presentation first.

Where Freedom Planet is likely to hook you is in its level design. There’s a ton of pleasure to be had zipping to and fro across the varied multi-lane pathways of each stage, which feature a wealth of loops to pass and well-placed hazards to avoid. The routes are generally easy to navigate with brief platforming challenges that keep you moving from one pathway to the next. Like the 2D Sonic games that inspired it, Freedom Planet’s stages are split across two parts, but the separation between them isn’t heavily signposted, instead pushing you from one section to the next as soon as a boss is defeated. This subtle shift increases your time spent running across stages, and as each one comes to close, you’ll feel a stronger sense of accomplishment to the trials and tribulations you experienced in your journey through it.

    No Caption Provided

Each stage exudes its own personality, and there’s plenty of visual diversity present. You’ll clear through shopping malls inspired by Chinese-motifs, explore bamboo forests, and cross a fleet of airships. There’s some decent pixelated art on display, but a lot of it appears flat with textures from the foreground and background often blending together, which can cause minor inconveniences during certain platforming challenges.

Speaking of which, a higher focus on platforming provides some welcomed respite from racing towards a stage’s finish line. In addition, you’ll often stick around in some areas to engage in melee combat against crowds of enemies. All of this is aided by how each of the three playable characters have their own distinct modes of navigation and combat. While Lilac can use her Dragon Boost ability to instantly zip across the environment and make short work of enemies in her way, the more combat-oriented Carol and defense-focused Milla have to rely on their pounce and energy shield abilities, respectively, in order to pick up speed and dispatch foes. Each of their abilities lead you toward new paths you wouldn’t be able to reach otherwise, and you’re rewarded for putting in the time as other characters, as they occasionally get their own stages designed specifically around their abilities.

    No Caption Provided

Bookending Freedom Planet’s stages are boss fights that are as tough as they are ostentatious. They’re not too demanding at first, but as you progress, they start to require advanced tactics that test both your timing and reflexes. There’s an impressive sense of scale to the battles. One fight has you dueling against a giant robotic mantis who jumps all around the battlefield to slice you, while another has you engaging in a high-speed chase with an an evil snake mercenary piloting a massive dog mech. These moments are some of Freedom Planet’s most memorable, especially because each character has very different ways of dealing with them. Lilac has to rely on her standard melee and jumping spin attacks to hit bosses, using her Dragon Boost to fly up in the air to avoid screen-filling attacks. On the other hand, Carol doesn’t have the same conveniences as Lilac, instead relying on precision platforming and her wall jump ability to avoid larger boss attacks.

Lilac and Carol are the definite highlights of the roster, as their utilitarian movesets make them a joy to use. Both characters are rewarding to play in their own right, providing their own unique thrills and challenges. However, the same can’t be said for Milla, whose abilities feel more like an afterthought to round out the pack. Compared to her more able-bodied comrades, Milla lacks any meaningful way to quickly pick up speed, which often slows down the pacing of levels that are more built around moving swiftly. Her energy shield’s short range is a pain to use, and its various attacks aren’t all that functional when you’re moving through areas filled with enemies due to their slow startup.

    No Caption Provided
    Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Milla’s abilities are admittedly entertaining to use against bosses–whose difficult patterns oftentimes feel more built around the abilities of Lilac and Carol. At times, these instances feel like they’re weighed against you, but they often pave way to tense and fulfilling uphill battles that demand you to act more defensively. A momentary satisfaction, this sense of reward quickly wears off when you begin a new stage and realize just how much you’re bypassing threats simply because of how long it takes for Milla to fight against normal enemies.

Despite echoing the design of early 2D Sonic games, Freedom Planet manages to create its own take on the formula that’s well worth playing. For a game that emphasizes tightly-paced stage design and challenging boss fights, it’s disappointing that the game’s story never reaches the same heights. But if you have any vested interest in Sonic-like games or 2D action-platformers, you’d be remiss not to add this one to your queue–just make sure to play in Classic Mode.

  • Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Grim Sky Release Date Announced

Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Grim Sky Release Date Announced

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Year 3, Season 3 of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege kicks off soon with the release of Operation Grim Sky. While the expansion is already available to try out on the game’s test server, Ubisoft has now revealed when it’ll go live for all players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC: September 4.

Like previous Operations, Grim Sky introduces two new Operators to the game: Maverick and Clash. Both hail from different organizations and fall under different classes. Maverick is an Attacker from America who can use stun grenades and a blowtorch (and who has already been nerfed). Clash, meanwhile, is a Defender from Great Britain. She’s the first Defender in the game to wield a shield, which also comes equipped with a taser.

In addition to the new Operators, Grim Sky makes a significant overhaul to Hereford Base, one of the game’s first maps. Ubisoft says this is the first such map overhaul the development team has undertaken in Siege. Following the update, each floor of the base will a larger surface area and more destructible walls, and new staircases and hatches have been added to give players more options for moving around the map.

The Consulate map is also receiving a buff as part of the Operation Grim Sky update. These changes aren’t as significant as the ones being applied to Hereford Base, but they’ll nonetheless force you to tweak your strategies. The police line spawn point has been extended, while a wall has been moved near the gas station spawn point „to prevent spawn peeking and early kills.“ Ubisoft is also adding another bomb site to the map in Tellers and Archives.

Rounding out Operation Grim Sky are a range of balance tweaks and bug fixes. You can find the full patch notes for the update on the official Rainbow Six Siege website.

  • Spider-Man PS4 Dev Responds To Graphics „Downgrade“ Claims

Spider-Man PS4 Dev Responds To Graphics „Downgrade“ Claims

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Video game development is a fluid process; things change all the time through development until launch and beyond. One thing that changed with the upcoming Spider-Man PS4 game due out next week was the size of puddles in one particular scene. This has led to claims that developer Insomniac Games in some way downgraded the game’s graphics, and now the developer has spoken up to stress that there has been „no downgrade.“

This issue picked up steam thanks in part to this popular Reddit post (via IGN) that shows more puddles in an older, E3 trailer for Spider-Man and fewer puddles in a newer video. Writing on Twitter, Insomniac confirmed that it changed the size of the puddles, but stressed, „There’s no downgrade at all.“ Some believed that Insomniac had to scale back the graphics to meet performance demands, but it appears this is not the case.

Community manager James Stevenson said in his own tweet, „The puddles being moved had nothing to do with performance.“ Then why remove them? „Pretty sure it was a design / art / usability reason thing,“ Stevenson explained. „Definitely wasn’t performance, as we have spots with tons of puddles in the game with no performance issue.

Other Spider-Man fans have criticised the look of Peter Parker’s suit in newer trailers. It may look different, Stevenson conceded, but that’s because Insomniac is using different, better technology today than it did at the start of development. Importantly, the suit is meant to look good while Peter Parker is swinging from building to building.

„Bright sunlight causes concrete to blow out and look bright. Plus our post effects ( DOF and motion blur tech in particular) are way better in 2018, which causes stuff to be blurrier when pulled like that, but that’s because it’s supposed to look good IN MOTION,“ he said.

GameSpot’s Spider-Man PS4 review will go live on September 4, a few days before the game launches on September 7. While the game isn’t even out yet, Insomniac has announced the first DLC expansion will be released on October 23.

  • Where Is Xur? Destiny 2 Merchant’s Location And Items Today (Aug. 31 – Sep. 4)

Where Is Xur? Destiny 2 Merchant’s Location And Items Today (Aug. 31 – Sep. 4)

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

For the last time before Destiny 2’s new DLC expansion, Forsaken, releases, Xur has arrived. But this appearance is notable because it’s the first since the huge update that dropped recently, dramatically revamping numerous areas of the game. Among the elements it has touched is Xur himself, whom you might notice no longer appears on the in-game map. Here’s where he is and what weapon and armor he’s selling–and there are some notable differences.

Patch 2.0 removed the waypoint from the map that directs you to Xur, but it also changed where he shows up. Previously, he would be in the same location as the current week-long Flashpoint. But with Flashpoints now rotating on a four-day basis, Xur’s „will is not his own,“ as the patch notes put it, meaning he can show up anywhere–Flashpoint or not.

As of August 31, Xur can be found in the European Dead Zone. Although it’s not marked on the map, he’s returned to his usual spot in the Winding Cove; to find him, just spawn in at the landing zone and make your way directly north. He can be found on a hill next to a crashed ship.

As for his wares, he has the typical Isochronal/Fated Engram (more on that in a moment), Three of Coins, and Five of Swords challenge card. It’s the Exotic items that are significant: Although you’ll simply find a typical lineup of one weapon and one piece of armor for each class, random rolls–something from the original Destiny being re-introduced with Forsaken–may be in effect. The armor available each have different perks from those you already own, and will be superior due to the sheer fact that they have more perks than existing versions. It’s unclear if these are random rolls or the new set perks for these Exotics, but either way, they might be worth purchasing. Here’s what you can get and how much it all costs:

    • Prometheus Lens (Exotic Trace Rifle) — 29 Legendary Shards
    • Knucklehead Radar (Exotic Hunter Helmet) — 23 Legendary Shards
    • Vesper of Radius (Exotic Warlock Chest Armor) — 23 Legendary Shards
    • Ashen Wakes (Exotic Titan Gauntlets) — 23 Legendary Shards
    • Fated Engram — 97 Legedary Shards
    • Three of Coins — 31 Legendary Shards

One other 2.0 update change for Xur to be aware of concerns the Fated Engram. Buying this expensive item previously ensured you’d receive an Exotic you didn’t already own. Going forward, this will only consist of Exotics available prior to Forsaken. That may be disappointing to those hoping for a reliable way to secure Forsaken Exotics, but this will at least remain a viable way for seeking to round out their Year 1 Exotic collection.

Forsaken releases on September 4 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4–with a variety of timed-exclusive content on PS4. On September 1, all Destiny 2 players (which now includes everyone with a PS Plus subscription) can take part in a 24-hour trial of Gambit, the new PvP/PvE hybrid mode being introduced in Forsaken.

  • Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Cantina Brings Alcohol To The Happiest Place On Earth

Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Cantina Brings Alcohol To The Happiest Place On Earth

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

There is still roughly a year before Star Wars fans will be able to step into the movie franchise’s universe thanks to the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and the Walt Disney World resort. Unfortunately, the latest piece of concept art is going to make the wait a lot harder to deal with.

The Disney Parks Blog has released the first look at Oga’s Cantina, which will be open for business in Galaxy’s Edge Black Spire Outpost when it launches in 2019. At first glance, it looks like the absolute coolest place anyone could possibly hang out in a theme park. It’s sparsely populated with a variety of alien races, along with some First Order stormtroopers. „You never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up,“ the description says.

    No Caption Provided

According to the blog, Oga’s will offer „famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using ‚otherworldly‘ methods, served in unique vessels.“ It also notes that the menu includes options for kids, as well as „libations“ for adults. That’s correct, a Disney Parks representative confirms to GameSpot that alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be served at the cantina, a first for Disneyland–unless you’re somehow lucky enough to visit the ultra-exclusive Club 33. While adults can already purchase alcohol at Hollywood Studios, the future home of Walt Disney World Resort’s Galaxy’s Edge, it’s a different story for Disney’s original theme park. This is the first time the park will offer alcoholic drink options. Currently, Disneyland’s sister park Disney California Adventure sells wine, beer, and other spirits.

What’s a cantina without music, though? Thankfully, Oga’s has that covered. „Musical entertainment is provided courtesy of RX-24, the former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid we first met in Star Tours, who has re-envisioned himself as the cantina’s DJ,“ the blog says. „As quirky and talkative as ever, he’s still trying to do his best on the job.“

For Star Tours fans, seeing RX-24–Rex to his friends–get a new job is exciting. After all, Galaxy’s Edge isn’t the first time Star Wars has been featured in the parks and including this piece of history is a great nod.

Oga’s Cantina is just one piece of a very impressive puzzle the Disney parks are putting together for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The land will also include two new rides, one in which riders take control of the Millennium Falcon. The other will drop visitors into the middle of a conflict between the Resistance and the First Order.

Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge is expected to open in the summer of 2019, with the Walt Disney World Resort version launching in the fall. The good news is that’s still before Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters that next December.

  • Little Dragons Cafe Review – Dragging On

Little Dragons Cafe Review – Dragging On

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Little Dragons Cafe defies categorization. Despite being the latest endeavor from Harvest Moon creator Yasuhiro Wada, it’s not a farming sim. While you have to manage your cafe, keeping the staff in line and adjusting the menu to fit your needs, it’s also not really a management sim. You instead split your time between exploring with your dragon to hunt down recipes and ingredients and going hands-on at the cafe–and they combine to make a strangely satisfying loop. But Little Dragons Cafe is also held back by frustrating pacing problems in its story and progression, as well as technical hiccups that make it feel outdated.

In Little Dragons Cafe, you’re one of a pair of twins whose mother has fallen into a deep sleep. You learn that she’s part dragon, and in order to save her, you need to raise a dragon while also running the family cafe. You meet new cafe customers with problems of their own, and one by one, you help each of them through their struggles (mostly using food) to progress. There’s a lot of silliness and cheerful platitudes throughout the story, and they’re largely sweet, if a little corny; one customer, for example, is an angry young girl who learns to better understand her father through a comforting shrimp dish.

    No Caption Provided
    Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5Gallery image 6Gallery image 7Gallery image 8Gallery image 9Gallery image 10

Each character’s story is broken up into around a dozen short scenes, usually one per day. Early on, you’ll only be able to explore the area immediately around the cafe; unlocking new areas is dependent on your dragon’s size (two physically small stages and two stages that you can ride and fly on), which is in turn dependent on your progression through the story. The pace of the story lags behind that of exploration, and you’ll find yourself ready to move on, having found every recipe and ingredient in the early areas, before the story structure will allow you to. The slowness feels forced and artificial, rather than a choice you make to fit the game’s relaxed pastoral setting.

This early section is also dragged down by janky movement controls. You can jump, but it’s clumsy, and you’ll often have to tweak where you’re standing slightly to actually get onto something. A hilly area in particular is filled with ledges you can jump down from but not back onto, forcing you to backtrack multiple times to reach everything on foot. Despite all that, though, you’ll still outpace the story.

Little Dragons Cafe improves a lot once your dragon can fly. New regions, like a rocky cliffside set to upbeat music and a more subdued waterfall filled with rare ingredients, provide more variety in both your day-to-day exploration and in your cafe’s menu. Flying eliminates all the problems with navigating on foot, and it becomes faster and easier to gather everything you need over the course of a day. Your cafe, too, becomes busier; you’ll likely run out of ingredients faster than you can gather them, and you either have to consistently harvest what you need or plan your menu around what you have on hand. It’s a satisfying balancing act that keeps you heading out day after day, even after you’ve thoroughly searched each area.

Creatively, cooking itself is a short rhythm minigame in which your accuracy helps determine the quality of the dish. The prompts often seem to be just off-beat, but the game is also forgiving, and creating high-quality dishes isn’t difficult. The actual fun comes from coordinating your menu–in addition to regularly swapping out recipes as your ingredient stock fluctuates, you can check it to see which recipes are popular and which need to be swapped out for better ones. It’s not a complex or deep system, and you don’t have to try too hard to keep customers happy, but tinkering with it gives all that gathering a purpose.

    No Caption Provided

You can also spend time on the actual operations of the cafe, including taking and serving orders, cleaning plates, and reining in the group of goofy weirdos that comprise the staff. While they’re mostly likeable in cutscenes, the staff is not very helpful or efficient as employees and will frequently run into you and block your path as you try to complete tasks. They also slack off periodically, and while you can talk to them to get them back in line, the cafe won’t suffer much for their poor performance. Generally, helping out in the cafe is busywork–the only incentive to do it is the guilt trip you might get from your sibling for shirking your responsibilities.

Little Dragons Cafe is heartwarming overall, with cute character designs and joyful music to accompany each colorful region. The dragon in particular is adorable as a baby, encouraging you to bond with (and feed) it as it grows. Unfortunately, texture shimmer, lag before cutscenes load, and limited lighting effects make it feel like a much older game than it is. The technical problems aren’t obtrusive, but combined with the control and pacing issues, they do make Little Dragons Cafe feel like a much older game.

In many ways, Little Dragons Cafe doesn’t really fit a modern mold. It’s conservative with the goals it gives you, spacing out progression so much that it’s easy to get impatient with it. None of your individual tasks are very complex or challenging, either. But when the right parts come together, it can be fun to succeed in its charming world, and it’s easy to lose track of time hunting for hidden recipes or rare ingredients to make the best dishes possible. If anything, it’s a lovely game to relax to–even if you’re forced into a slow pace.
