Lost Judgment’s star investigator Takayuki Yagami’s brazen, catch-all sidekick and former Yakuza muscle Masaharu Kaito takes center stage in the upcoming DLC release of The Kaito Files, which goes live on PS4 and PS5March 28. Taking place after the events of Lost Judgment, this story expansion has Kaito facing a bitter past he thought he’d left behind years ago.
Yagami is out of town and Kaito is left to take on the remaining work at the Yagami Detective Agency. Everything changes when Kaito is offered a case with a lucrative reward: 20-million yen to find a CEO’s missing wife. Things take a twist when it’s revealed that the missing person in question is Kaito’s ex-lover, Mikiko. Left to put back together the pieces of his past and discover the fate of a woman presumed dead, Kaito won’t stop until he’s cracked the case for good.
Unleash Kaito’s brutal fighting styles
If Yagami is the master of graceful, acrobatic fighting styles, Kaito is the king of unforgivingly brutal strength. Choose between unstoppable offense and overpowering defense with Kaito’s two signature battle styles: bruiser and tank. One combines aggressive punches and hooks with rapid evasion skills. The other allows Kaito to endure enemy hits with sheer strength and come back with a counterpunch, as well as grapple and throw foes to the ground. Paired with a unique skill tree of over 70 abilities, Kaito’s fighting style is roaring and suited to his fervent temperament, standing in stark contrast but equal standing to Yagami’s practiced precision.
New modes of investigation
While Yagami relies on his gadgets, Kaito puts faith in his primal instincts to conduct investigations. In addition to Primal Eye and Primal Ear, Kaito also has the hunting sense of a wolf on the prowl, allowing him to track down imperceptible odors with Primal Nose. But outside of investigations, his senses are just as keen. Scavenge the city through the new lens of Primal Focus to find rare hidden items that would otherwise elude the average person amid the bustling cityscape.
Kaito has learned much from watching Yagami conduct stealth operations, but his ways come with a twist. Rather than quietly choking out enemies on stealth missions, he pummels them unconscious and does the same if discovered. Because he finds picking locks too tedious, Kaito uses his Primal Ear to wait for foes to come near a door before smashing his way through. Tailing sequences are twice as hard for Kaito since he’s not as subtle or nimble as Yagami. But the most iconic showcase of Kaito’s playstyle might just be his loud, disruptive methods for conducting a chase, which stand in sharp contrast to Yagami’s smooth and evasive methods.
Hidden content
Hidden secrets are strewn throughout the city. Put Kaito’s Primal Focus to the test if you hope to find them all and unlock powerful new skills in the process. While traversing the city, discover special locations that make Kaito reminisce on key moments of his past, helping him unlock forgotten skills as he copes with the decisions he made years ago. For challengers keen enough to scour every hidden location, the secret strongest boss awaits.
The Kaito Files come to light on March 28, available immediately to previous purchasers of the Lost Judgment Digital Ultimate Edition or Season Pass.

Wenn Yagami der Meister eleganter, akrobatischer Kampfstile ist, dann ist Kaito der König der gnadenlosen Stärke. Wählt mit Kaitos beiden charakteristischen Kampfstilen „Bruiser“ (Schläger) und „Tank“ (Panzer) zwischen unaufhaltsamen Angriffen und einer überwältigenden Abwehr. Zusammen mit einem einzigartigen Fertigkeitenbaum mit über 70 Fähigkeiten passt Kaitos stürmischer Kampfstil zu seinem aufbrausenden Temperament – er bildet den Gegenpol zu Yagamis gekonnter Präzision und ist ihr trotzdem ebenbürtig.
Neue Ermittlungsmodi
Während Yagami sich auf seine Gadgets verlässt, vertraut Kaito bei den Ermittlungen auf seine Urinstinkte. Neben „Primal Eye“ (Primärauge) und „Primal Ear“ (Primärohr) verfügt Kaito über den Jagdinstinkt eines Wolfes, der es ihm ermöglicht, die Fährte von nicht wahrnehmbaren Gerüchen mit „Primal Nose“ (Primärnase) aufzunehmen. Aber auch fernab der Ermittlungen funktionieren seine Sinne bestens. Durchsucht die Stadt mit der neuen Linse des „Primal Focus“ (Primärfokus), um seltene, verborgene Objekte zu finden, die dem Durchschnittsmenschen in der geschäftigen urbanen Umgebung entgehen würden.
Kaito hat viel gelernt, als er Yagami bei verdeckten Operationen beobachtet hat, aber seine Herangehensweise ist anders. Anstatt Gegner bei verdeckten Operationen leise zu würgen, schlägt er sie bewusstlos – auch wenn er entdeckt wird. Weil ihm das Knacken von Schlössern zu anstrengend ist, nutzt Kaito „Primal Ear“ und wartet, bis Gegner einer Tür näherkommen, bevor er sich seinen Weg freischmettert. Beschatten fällt ihm doppelt so schwer wie Yagami, weil er nicht so raffiniert und flink ist. Aber am besten kommt Kaitos Spielstil in seinen lauten, zerstörerischen Methoden bei Verfolgungsjagden zum Ausdruck, die sich gewaltig von Yagamis geschmeidigen Ausweichmanövern unterscheiden.

If you’ve previously experienced Judgment or the Yakuza series, you’ll know that despite all the investigations you take on, there’s still time to take a break from investigatingand play some retro classics!
The Club SEGA arcade naturally has many games to offer, including a couple of new titles. However, this time our hard-boiled protagonist Yagami can also play Master System games in his office, and even switch between western and Japanese versions of these 8-bit wonders.
Here’s a breakdown of the games you can find throughout your adventure:
Arcade
Space Harrier (1985) is the arcade shooter that put SEGA on the map. You are the Harrier, and your mission is to take down enemies including giant dragons while avoiding obstacles and enemy fire.
Building on the success of Hang-On, Super Hang-On (1987) has you steering a motorcycle across four difficulty classes divided into stages across continents. Here, your foe is time itself: make sure to avoid going off-track or running into other racers if you plan on reaching that next checkpoint!
Fantasy Zone (1986) is a shoot ‘em up (or indeed, “cute ‘em up”) where the adorable spaceship Opa-Opa must track down and defeat bases and bosses across each stage. Along your journey be sure to upgrade your ship – don’t underestimate just how tough your foes can get.
Fighting Vipers (1995) brings its own unique spin to the fighting game genre by adding armor to its roster of fighters. If you batter your enemies enough, their armor will explode off their bodies, and you can even launch them through stage walls if your final attack of the round hits hard enough!
As part of Sonic’s 30th anniversary celebrations, Sonic The Fighters (1996) is joining Lost Judgment. From AM2, the creators of Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers, this 3D fighter has its own unique, exaggerated cartoonish style. This was also the debut game for Bark the Polar Bear and Bean the Dynamite, who more recently reappeared in Sonic Mania.
Futuristic bike racing simulator Motor Raid (1997) has you knocking out your opponents to get ahead of the pack! This SEGA Model 2 game was offered to arcades as conversion kit for Manx TT Super Bike back in the day.
Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown (2010) is the revolutionary fighting game that remains impressive to this date. You’ll take on six opponents and final boss Dural in single player, and you can also fight against a friend locally. If you enjoy this be sure to check out Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, remade in Lost Judgment’s very own Dragon Engine!
The House of the Dead and zombie fans alike should also keep their eyes peeled for the new arcade game HAMA of the DEAD which is a new take on KAMURO of the DEAD from the original Judgment.
Master System
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (1986) was built into many Master System units, quickly making Alex Kidd SEGA’s 8-bit mascot! Bash blocks and enemies on your way to defeat Janken the Great and his henchmen.
The Master System version of Fantasy Zone (1986) downsizes the arcade version a touch, while still managing to keep the original’s colorful quirkiness. This home version features two bosses that are different from the arcade release!
Penguin Land (1987) is an action puzzler where you must bring fragile eggs back home safely, avoiding dangerous animals. Impressively for the time, there’s even a level editor for creating your own stages.
Quartet (1987) is a 2-player conversion of the 4-player arcade original, where you’ll be taking down treacherous creatures to save your space colony from certain collapse!
Enduro Racer (1987) is a dirt bike racer that looks a little different to the arcade version thanks to its isometric perspective. Be sure to try the Japanese version of the game, where you’ll be treated to five extra stages!
Woody Pop (1987) has you controlling the titular character, who transforms into a brick-smashing hero as you journey across 50 levels of puzzler action to take down the Mad Machine. This was originally only released on the Game Gear in the US and Europe!
In Maze Hunter 3-D (1988) you must navigate your way through a series of mazes from a top-down perspective. The original game required the SEGA 3-D Glasses, but now you have the option to switch this off if you prefer.
Secret Command (1986) is a top-down action shooter where you, Ashura, must infiltrate a vast enemy stronghold. You can also have a second player join as your comrade, Bishamon to make life a little easier.
Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (1987) is set 10 years after the events of Fantasy Zone. Opa-Opa must now defend the city gates from the Blackhearts by navigating through interconnected warp gates!
Alien Syndrome (1987) is the name of the deadly creatures you are facing in this port of the arcade top-down shooter. Can you, Ricky, rescue the hostages and escape in time?
Global Defense (1987) is the home port of arcade shoot ‘em up SDI: Strategic Defense Initiative. Here, you operate a satellite’s supercharged laser cannon to save Earth from enemy space missiles and satellites!

Fighting Vipers (1995) bringt seinen eigenen Ansatz an das Kampfspiel-Genre, indem jedem Charakter der Kämpferliste eine Rüstung verpasst wird. Wenn ihr lange genug auf euren Gegner einschlagt, wird die Rüstung von ihrem Körper gesprengt, und wenn euer finaler Angriff der Runde genug Durchschlagkraft hat, könnt ihr den Gegner sogar durch die Arenawände schmettern!
Als Teil der Feier zum 30-jährigen Jubiläum von Sonic erscheint Sonic The Fighters (1996) bei Lost Judgment. Dieses 3D-Kampfspiel von AM2, dem Entwickler von Virtua Fighter und Fighting Vipers, hat seinen ganz eigenen überzogenen Cartoon-Stil. The included Wayfarer’s Lucky Cat not only looks great on display in Yagami’s office, but it’ll also pad your wallet with extra yen the farther you travel in-game.
Detective Essentials Pack
Pre-order the Digital Deluxe or Digital Ultimate Editions to also receive the Detective Essentials Pack at launch. Fans of the new detective dog pal will be able to “adopt” an additional three colours of shiba inu to choose from: white, black, and rust.
Retro gaming fans will also be pleased to see four additional Master System games to play. Adding Global Defense, Alien Syndrome, Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa, and Sagaia brings the total up to twelve classic SEGA titles to reminisce over!

A convicted police officer reveals the location of a murder victim’s body, the man who had once bullied his late son. Private detective Takayuki Yagami is called to investigate the impossible case of two crimes committed at once. But what starts out as a straightforward tale of revenge bleeds into a growing criminal network, a flawed legal system, and those who would take advantage of both.
It’s up to you and Yagami to hunt down the truth, even if it means scaling buildings, going deep undercover, or breaking out the martial arts to defend yourself when push comes to punch.
The new trailer showcases two of Yagami’s new investigative actions: athletics and stealth. Take detective work to new heights by scaling buildings and smooth acrobatics to access otherwise unreachable areas. Stealth can be used to sneak past security or silent takedowns to get a goon out of the picture without making a scene.
…But if making a scene is unavoidable, Yagami has access to three combo-heavy, flashy martial arts styles: Crane, Tiger, and the new Snake style. The Snake style’s advantage is redirecting an opponent’s attacks right back at them for more merciful takedowns. Each style rewards active play and meter management in a unique way.
Yagami’s leads take you across several districts of Japan and into a local high school where he must get to the root of how a mysterious rise in delinquency is connected to his case. In order to “infiltrate” the school, Yagami goes undercover as an outside counselor advising the activity clubs.
In comes the School Stories, where you can befriend students from all walks of life while on the job. Groove to the rhythm in Dance Club, battle for bot supremacy in Robotics club, and enjoy off-campus activities like sticking and swaying in a boxing gym and burning rubber in a biker gang.
Spending time with students might be worth your while – you’d be surprised at who knows what in this town.

Ein verurteilter Polizist verrät den Fundort eines Mordopfers – des Mannes, der einst seinen verstorbenen Sohn drangsaliert hatte. Privatdetektiv Takayuki Yagami wird hinzugerufen, um den praktisch unmöglichen Fall zweier zeitgleich begangener Verbrechen zu untersuchen. Doch was als simple Rachegeschichte beginnt, entpuppt sich immer mehr als Verbrechensnetzwerk, als schwächenbehaftetes Rechtssystem, in dem sich jene tummeln, die beides zu ihrem Vorteil ausnutzen.
Es liegt an euch und Yagami, die Wahrheit ans Licht zu bringen – selbst wenn ihr dafür auf Gebäude klettern, undercover gehen oder euch mithilfe von Martial Arts verteidigen müsst, wenn es hart auf hart kommt.
Der neue Trailer zeigt zwei von Yagamis neuen Investigativ-Techniken: Athletik und Heimlichkeit. Hebt die Detektivarbeit auf ein ganz neues Niveau, indem ihr Gebäude erklimmt und euch durch coole akrobatische Moves an ansonsten unerreichbare Orte manövriert. Und mit Heimlichkeit könnt ihr euch an Sicherheitsbeamten vorbeischleichen oder Gegner still und leise aus dem Weg räumen, ohne Aufsehen zu erregen.
… Aber wenn es sich mal nicht vermeiden lässt, Aufsehen zu erregen, kann Yagami auf drei kombolastige, spektakuläre Martial-Arts-Stile zurückgreifen: Kranich, Tiger und den neuen Schlangen-Stil. Der Vorteil des Schlangen-Stils liegt darin, dass der Angriff eines Gegners geradewegs auf ihn zurückgeworfen werden kann – eine etwas barmherzigere Art, ihn auszuschalten. Jeder Stil belohnt das aktive Spielen und Füllen der Anzeigen auf eigene Weise.
Yagamis Anhaltspunkte führen euch durch mehrere japanische Stadtviertel und in eine örtliche Highschool, wo er herausfinden muss, wie ein rätselhafter Kriminalitätsanstieg mit seinem Fall in Verbindung steht. Um die Schule zu „infiltrieren“, schleust sich Yagami undercover als externer Berater für die Aktivitätenklubs ein.
