As far as retro gaming goes, one of the closest guarded secrets of yesteryear is the cancelled Super Nintendo CD-ROM add-on. This joint effort between Sony and Nintendo to create the SNES-CD ended up being scrapped, and thus the PlayStation was born. As of today though, we can take a much closer look at what could have been following one retro gamer’s recent discovery.
Steve Lin of GREEGames, a studio known for making both Android and iOS titles, is also very much dedicated to classic gaming. His admiration for the past is something many of his Twitter followers have grown to love, although one of his recent tweets left countless retro gamers gob-smacked. A photograph shared detailed several internal Nintendo folders packed to the brim with documents, many of which he pledged to scan and upload online.
Several of these scans began to surface on Twitter, including pictures of the Nintendo AVS (the original prototype of the Nintendo NES), along with pictures of 8-bit knitting accessories, and also a snap of Masaru Shimomura dressed up as Dr Mario. As great as these were, it wasn’t until the day before Valentine’s Day that Lin’s efforts were truly noticed within the gaming community.
Lin uploaded to Twitter countless page scans detailing the specifications of the SNES-CD add-on, along with programming guides and much much more – potentially filling in huge gaps in video game history. The entire collection seems to have been archived in PDF format, although it does leave one question… is there more than enough information within to make a homebrew effort re-creating this fabled system? We can only dream, but either way be sure to check out what we may have been playing back in the early nineties.
Another week, another iPhone 6 concept. This one however, seems plausible, or at least from the rumors stating that Apple’s next-generation phone will come without a home button and feature a chassis made of liquidmetal as well as a larger 4.8-inch display. For now, Apple fanatics can just savor over these concept images.
And the rumor windmill spins again! New leaks have reported what it could be the rear shell of the new Apple iPad 5 and taking into account that the last rumors about Apple products are all eventually being a reality, this shouldn’t be different…
An array of new photos featuring alleged rear shells of the next-generation iPad in „Space Gray“ and silver have been posted by Australian writer Sonny Dickson. The photos, which also depict some of the internals of the iPad, come two weeks after Apple debuted a new space gray color to replace the slate black used on both the iPhone 5 and iPod lines.
The new photos also emerge just under a week after a purported second-generation iPad mini shell was spotted in the same space gray color. A day before that, a somewhat sketchy report from C Technology claimed that both the full-sized iPad and iPad mini would be available in the same three colors seen on the iPhone 5s. While space gray and silver have been seen, a gold rear shell has yet to appear.

The images above might be our first look at redesigned stock apps in Google’s upcoming Android 4.4 “KitKat” update.
We’ve been reporting on a lot of Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 leaks since we first discovered an unannounced Nexus device in Google’s promotional video for the upcoming OS update.
While images of the Nexus 5 have leaked several times– we posted exclusive photos and video of the device earlier this week– we have yet to get a good look at Android 4.4 KitKat.
Today another reader reached out with the photos above claiming to show redesigns of the phone dialer and messaging apps on KitKat.
The images show new lighter color, grey icons on the status bar, which lines up with our leaked video of the Nexus 5 and a screenshot for a Google Keyboard update spotted by AndroidPolice yesterday.
The images also appear to show a colored status bar that changes depending on the color scheme of the app.
