    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sony has announced that they’ll bring some PSN games to the PS4 that were once available only on PS3 or PS Vita.

Flow, Flower, Escape Plan and Sound Shapes will arrive next month around the time of the new console’s launch.

    flower-cross

The best part? They will be free if you already own them on their original systems. So, ‚Cross-Buy‘ is going cross generation!

Flower originally released on PS3 in 2009 from thatgamecompany, the developer behind Journey, and will port over to PS4 and Vita on November 15. Sony says that the game will run in 1080p and 60FPS, an upgrade from the PS3 version. The developer’s first game on PS3, flOw, will also be available on PS4 and PS Vita, though on November 29.

Queasy Games‘ Sound Shapes released in 2012 for PS3 and Vita. The game was already a cross-buy game before and now you’ll be able to play it on the PS4 on launch day, November 15.

And finally, PS Vita’s Escape Plan from Fun Bits Interactive will come to the PlayStation 4 on November 29 with reworked controls using the Dual Shock 4. The game was originally touch controls only on Vita so it’ll be interesting to see how it actually plays.

  • Rumor: Sony to allow PS4 reviews only 2 days before launch?

Rumor: Sony to allow PS4 reviews only 2 days before launch?

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

All started with comments from game journalist Adam Sessler (and a few others), tweeting hints of impending „bad news“ concerning the video game’s industry.

At first, people assumed it had to do with the recent „reveal“ that Xbox One versions of some games would run at lower resolutions than their PS4 counterparts, and that Microsoft embargoed Xbone games due to fear of websites making comparison videos.

However, it looks like it really has to do with Sony, and the fact that they will allow game/system reviews only 2 days before the PlayStation 4 launch!

According to Marcus Beer (from GT):

Its not just about the games, its reviewing the actual system 2 days before the damn thing ships.

Something feels off right now to be honest & a lot of people are pissed about it.

If you have seen anything I have done over the last 8 months, you will know I have been very happy with the way Sony has been doing things but now its time for them to shit or get off the pot and they are being damn evasive about allowing serious access to the system before launch.

I have mine preordered (ditto XboxOne) & if that is the only way I will get to have said access to the PS4 then so be it.

When people delay access to something, game or hardware, it’s never for a good reason in my experience.

  • PlayStation 4 FAQ explains game sharing, friend display

PlayStation 4 FAQ explains game sharing, friend display

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Sony clarifies PS4 game-sharing rules ahead of launch.

Sony has published a ‚PlayStation 4 FAQ‘, which clarifies sharing, activating a primary system, friends lists, and more!

    PS4-FAQ_10-26

Here’s a summary of the answers:

    “Primary” Console Sharing

On a system that you activated as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system, other users can play games you download. If you subscribe to PlayStation Plus, certain benefits can also be enjoyed by other users. You do not have to log in to the system for other users to enjoy these benefits.

Playing on Other PlayStation 4 Systems

On systems that you have not activated as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system, only you can start games you download, and only you can enjoy benefits from PlayStation Plus.

    Playing Disc-Based Games

You can share discs with your friends and play disc games on your PlayStation 4 system just like you can on a PlayStation 3 system. You do not have to connect to the internet or pay any usage fees to play used games.

Why should I activate my system as my primary PlayStation 4?

You can activate one PlayStation 4 system per account as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system. When you activate your system, the following features become available.

    • Anyone who uses your PlayStation 4 system can enjoy games and applications you purchase from PlayStation Store.
    • Anyone who uses your PlayStation 4 system can enjoy numerous benefits if you join PlayStation Plus.
    • You can purchase or pre-order content on PlayStation App and have the content automatically downloaded to your PlayStation 4 system.
    • You can connect to the PlayStation 4 system from a PS Vita system via the Internet using Remote Play.

You can deactivate a PlayStation 4 system only with that system. If you want to activate a different system that is not at your home as your primary PlayStation 4 system, you must deactivate the current primary system first. Also deactivate your PlayStation 4 system if you plan to transfer or dispose of it.

    scea_792772
    How are friends displayed?

With PlayStation 4, users can friend up to 2,000 people on PlayStation Network. You can view your friends on any device you have signed in to with your PlayStation Network account. The number of players displayed varies for each device.

    • PlayStation 4 – All friends are displayed.
    • PlayStation 3 – A maximum of 100 players can be displayed.
    • PS Vita – All your riends are displayed in the Friends app. Support for the ability to display all of your Friends in most applications and games is planned. (However, some titles will be limited to the current 100 Friends.)
    • PlayStation App – All your friends are displayed.

Which 100 players will be displayed on PlayStation 3?

    1. If you have sent or received Friend requests that haven’t been approved yet, up to 10 of the most recent recipients and 10 of the most recent senders are displayed.
    2. If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is more than 100, your currently online Friends are displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.
    3. If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is less than 100, your currently offline Friends are also displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.
    4. If the sum of players from point (1) and all of your Friends from point (2) is less than 100, any remaining recipients of your Friend requests are displayed, followed by any remaining players who sent Friend requests to you, until the limit of 100 players is reached.

You must sign out of PlayStation Network and then sign in again to update the players who are displayed. When doing this, also sign out of all other devices that you are signed in to PlayStation Network on.

  • PS4 System Software Update 1.50 Details

PS4 System Software Update 1.50 Details

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

PS4 just like XB1 will need a Day ONE update!

If you unboxing your PlayStation 4 during the holiday season, make sure you going to do it nearby where you have nice fast stable Internet connection, as your shiny new black box by Sony will need to load up v1.50 of its system software before you can make full usage of all its features, here is the details:

We wanted to shed some light on system software update version 1.50 for PS4, which will launch simultaneously with the system’s official North American launch on November 15th, 2013. By updating to system software version 1.50, you’ll be able to experience a variety of new features in addition to the basic functions of PS4.

The system software update 1.50 is approximately 300 MB, and will include the following features:

    Remote Play
Users will be able to access PS4 titles displayed on their living room TVs and play them on a PS Vita system over Wi-Fi networks by using PS4 Link (Depending on network environment or titles, remote play performance may vary outside of the home). We anticipate that most PS4 titles will be playable on the PS Vita system through Remote Play. The latest PS Vita system software version, to be released soon, will be required to use PS4 Link.

    Second Screen
Users can use the PS4 Link application for the PS Vita system, and PlayStation App for iPhone, iPad, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, to use these devices as second screens in supported titles. PlayStation App has the ability to enable users to interact with games with their mobiles devices. For example on The Playroom, a title pre-installed in all PS4 systems that requires PlayStation Camera, users can draw pictures on their mobile device screens and flick them towards the TV. The images then appear as a 3D object within the game.

Record, take screenshots, and upload gameplay effortlessly
The PS4 system provides dedicated, „always on“ video encoding systems that enables seamless uploading of gameplay. Users can share their epic triumphs by simply hitting the Share button on DualShock 4, take screenshots or scan through the last 15 minutes of gameplay, tag it and return to the game-the video uploads as the user plays. At the PS4 system’s launch in North America, users will be able to share their images and videos with friends on Facebook and screenshots with followers on Twitter, though users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Facebook and Twitter.

    Broadcast and spectate gameplay
The PS4 system also enhances social spectating by enabling users to broadcast their gameplay in real-time to game fans around the globe, using Ustream and Twitch live internet streaming services (users will need to sign up for individual accounts to use Ustream and Twitch). There are two ways for users to view live broadcasts. First, the Live from PlayStation application on PS4 aggregates streams from all PlayStation users. Second, users can spectate friends‘ PS4 gameplay from PCs, and applications such as Ustream, Twitch, and browsers, which are installed on their mobile devices. These applications can be easily started up via PlayStation App, and users can also use these applications to post comments to gameplay broadcasts. Furthermore, users with PlayStation Camera can stream camera images and microphone sounds along with their live gameplay broadcast.

    Play as you download
This feature enables users to play supported digital titles as they are being downloaded. The time it takes to begin playing will vary depending on game data size and network environments, and not all titles will support this feature When a game is purchased, users can start playing after PS4 downloads a portion of the data, while the rest of the game is downloaded in the background during actual gameplay. Games may be downloaded in stand-by mode.

    Multi log-in
A maximum of four users can log-in to a single PS4 system simultaneously. These players can use their own save data to play games, and also earn trophies on their own Sony Entertainment Network accounts even when playing a multiplayer game together on a single PS4 system.

    Party (Voice chat)
By using the Mono Headset bundled with the PS4 system, users will be able to chat with up to eight friends enjoying different applications or games. Furthermore, users can use Party to chat between PS4 and PS Vita systems.

    Face recognition and voice commands
Users with PlayStation Camera will be able to register their facial image onto their PS4 system, and login to their system using facial recognition instead of DualShock 4. Furthermore, users can use either the microphone of the Mono Head set connected to DualShock 4, or PlayStation Camera to navigate through the PS4 home screen (PlayStation Dynamic Menu) with voice commands to start up games and shutdown the system, among other features; please refer to PS4’s online manual for recognizable voice commands.

    Background music player
Users can enjoy gameplay while listening to music in the background with Music Unlimited, a cloud-based digital music service. Users can also voice chat with friends while listening to music. Learn more about Music Unlimited here.

    Online Multiplayer
PlayStation Plus members will be able to play PS4 titles online with other players via the network. PS Plus makes it easy for members to join available online multiplayer matches in a variety of ways, including the ability to easily join a game from a live stream broadcast or Party voice chats.

    Blu-ray Disc and DVD player
Users can enjoy not only gaming on their PS4 system, but also Blu-ray and DVD video contents. When using for the first time, users must connect to the internet to activate this feature.

Some features will not be available at launch, such as „suspend/resume mode“ which is a feature that keeps the PS4 system in a low power state and promptly takes users back to their game. We will provide additional information about system software update version 1.50 and features available at the PS4 system’s North America launch, and features that will be available after launch, in the near future.

  • Driveclub officially delayed until Spring 2014 aka ‚DelayClub‘

Driveclub officially delayed until Spring 2014 aka ‚DelayClub‘

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

After this week’s rumors, Sony has officially announced the delay of the PlayStation 4exclusive racing game Driveclub, which was aimed to be a launch title for the next-gen console.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida stated that both ‚Driveclub‘ and ‚Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition‘ have been pushed back to „early 2014“.

To hold players over, Sony has added Contrast, Compulsion’s puzzle platformer of light and shadow, as a free download for PlayStation Plus members on launch (this, in addition toResogun).

    Here’s the official announcement:

SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.

This decision also affects PlayStation Plus members’ Instant Game Collection for launch. To be clear, DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released. For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, I’m pleased to announce that Contrast, the highly anticipated game from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free as part of Instant Game Collection. If you’re not aware of Contrast, it will whisk you away to a surreal vaudevillian, film-noir inspired reality full of performance, intrigue, shadow-play and drama. Please check out the trailer below. I’m sure you’ll agree that it is unlike anything you will have played before.

We’re also offering members access to an exclusive “Open Weekend” trial of Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer on December 28-29.

We understand that the delay is disappointing news, but can assure you that the reason we have made this decision is to ensure that when DRIVECLUB launches, it will realize the next-gen racing vision. And PlayStation 4 gamers will have no shortage of titles to play this year. At launch alone, we have Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, FIFA 14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Battlefield 4 to name but a few, as well as the incredible list of indie games coming to PS4. A broad portfolio of games will be available on PS4 before the end of the year, and with games such as inFAMOUS Second Son, The Order 1886, Destiny, Watch Dogs and now DRIVECLUB coming next year, the strength of the software line-up on PS4 is unprecedented.

DRIVECLUB is a really ambitious racing title and the game is looking stunning. The extra time we’re giving the team means the visuals and overall experience are only going to get better. We can assure you that it will be worth the wait.

  • Ubisoft was worried that GTA V, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty would hurt Watch Dogs

Ubisoft was worried that GTA V, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty would hurt Watch Dogs

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

According to Wedbush Securities‘ analyst Michael Pachter, the delay to Watch Dogs from November 2013 to Q2 in 2014 is likely to have been influenced by the crowded release schedule and the huge success of Grand Theft Auto V:

„We believe that management was also concerned about the strong competition for wallet share Watch Dogs faced at the holidays from Grand Theft Auto V, Battlefield 4, and a new Call of Duty, among others,“ wrote Pachter in a note released yesterday.

He added: „Grand Theft Auto V is only adding to industry uncertainty, as while it is bringing many previously-disconnected gamers back to the market, it also has achieved record-breaking sales that have tapped a certain percentage of gamer holiday spending months ahead of time.“

Whatever the reason, he believes Ubisoft made the correct decision:

„Given next-gen uncertainty and this very strong slate of competitors, we believe the two aforementioned delays were the right decision,“ he wrote.

He added: „By releasing Watch Dogs in Q1:15, Ubisoft has given its developers the opportunity to fully maximize the game’s sales potential in FY:15 and build a lasting franchise that the company could use to offset any future weakness for its established key franchises (displayed most recently by the disappointing Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist).

„We are somewhat concerned about competition in Ubisoft’s Q1, however, with games like EA’s Titanfall, Activision’s Destiny and Microsoft’s Halo 5 all targeting the same launch window. We don’t think it is important that Watch Dogs (or any of the other three games) launches in Q1, and we expect all of the game publishers to behave rationally when setting release dates to avoid competition wherever possible.“

PlayStation 4 Will Cost $1,850 in Brazil

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

And we thought Argentina had it bad. In Brazil, the land of high video game import taxes, PlayStation fans will have to shell out 3,999 Brazilian Real for Sony’s next console come November 29. That’s roughly $1,850 USD. Ouch.

The $100 price advantage the $399 PlayStation 4 enjoys over the $499 Xbox One here in the States is nothing compared to the massive difference between the two in Brazil. According to our Brazilian sister site, Microsoft’s console will be sold for a mere R$ 2,200, or $1,016 USD.

Why the massive difference? Speaking to G1, Sony Brazil explained that between 60 to 70 percent of the cost was made up of import fees and taxes. That would come out to $1,292 USD in fees, leaving only $554 USD for the console. Sony also announced that games for the system will run a relatively reasonable R$ 179, around $80 USD.

  • Wii U has more next-gen 1080p 60fps games than Xbox One and PS4

Wii U has more next-gen 1080p 60fps games than Xbox One and PS4

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Site Gaming Blend published a list of all the -confirmed- native 1080p 60fps titles on ’next-gen‘ consoles and, it looks like the Wii U has more of these than the Xbox One or the PS4(without counting indie titles).

    Just take a look:

    Wii U

The Wii U has confirmed games to run native 1920x1080p at 60 frames per second: Super Smash Bros. U, Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Rayman Legends.

Super Smash Bros. U was confirmed to run at 1080p, as noted on My Nintendo News. Mario Kart 8 was confirmed to run on the Wii U without a hitch at 60 frames per second when it was unveiled at E3. Bayonetta 2 was labeled 1080p at 60fps via Siliconera, and even if we want to count HD remakes for next-gen such as Wind Waker HD, Digital Trends made it known that the game is 1080p at 60fps. There’s also Rayman Legends, once a Wii U exclusive, that also runs 1080p at 60fps, as noted by Digital Foundry.

So we have about six next-gen games running 1080p at 60fps for the Wii U, and even if you want to knock off Wind Waker HD as a remake and a game that’s not a real next-gen title, that’s fine. We still have a nice cache of games on the Wii U that are native 1080p to prove its case.

    PS4

There are only a few games on the PS4’s side that hits 1080p at 60fps, including:

    • KillZone: Shadow Fall = 1920×1080 (MP=60fps, SP=30fps)
    • DriveClub = 1920×1080 (Targeting 60fps)
    • Flower = 1920×1080 (60fps)
    • Resogun = 1920×1080 (60fps)

Now there’s also Warframe and DC Universe Online that are also 1080p at 60fps, but neither of those are native next-gen games; they’re ports. That would be the equivalent of looking through the Wii U’s eShop and naming all the native 1080p 60fps indie games and Wii ports, and by comparison the Wii U would wipe the floor with the competition in that regard.

But look at that list for the PlayStation 4… while I love what Sony is doing with the console, we can see that Killzone isn’t native 60fps, but only 60fps in multiplayer with tons of downscaling of the graphics and visual effects.

We also have DriveClub which may or may not be native 60fps, as it seems as if it’s a bit of a toss-up. There’s also Flower, but again, if we’re counting Flower then we may as well leave Wind Waker HD on the list. That means we have three-and-half games on the PS4 side running 1080p at 60fps.

    Xbox One

On the Xbox One side it looks even worse. We have…

    • Killer Instinct = 1280×720 (60fps)
    • Forza 5 = 1920×1080 (60fps)
    • Call of Duty: GHOSTS = 1920×1080

You may as well scratch Call of Duty: Ghosts off that list because it’s also going to be 60fps on the Wii U and PS4. That just leaves us with Killer Instinct and Forza Motorsport 5, granted only one of those games is a next-generation title at native 1080p and 60fps.

According to the site, this leaves us with the Wii U being more next-gen than its supposed bigger, badder, next-gen competitors.

  • DriveClub for PS4 delayed until 2014

DriveClub for PS4 delayed until 2014

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

According to a source of TheSameCoinDriveclub for the PS4 has been delayed until at least spring 2014. The title was announced as a launch title for Sony’s next-gen console.

The site says that you should treat this as „100% rumour“ for now, but considering yesterday’s announcements about Watch Dog’s & The Crew slipping into 2014, it wouldn’t be surprising.

    agn_Driveclub_Logo-LowQ

    Here’s the report:

We’ve had word from an anonymous source that Sony’s upcoming PS4 launch title Driveclub is delayed until spring 2014. While no reason for the delay was given it has been reported previously that the game had looked a little unfinished when shown at various events this year.

With a little under a month before the PS4′s US release this isn’t the best of news, especially in the light of Ubisoft’s news that the highly anticipated launch title watch Dog’s won’t be hitting until sometime next year. It’s also a hit to the platforms hugely popular PS+ service as an albeit stripped down version of Driveclub was due to be available for PS+ subscribers free at launch.

It could also be another blow to retailers who are already having to scramble to adjust preorder bundles of the PS4 in light of yesterdays news.

As stated this is just a rumour at present, expect this piece to self destruct if it turns out to be rubbish but we’ll be sure to update as we learn more. I have reached out to both Evolution Studios and Sony for comment but as yet neither has chosen to reply.

  • Take a look at PlayStation 4 retail packaging

Take a look at PlayStation 4 retail packaging

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Chris Owen, Community Manager at PlayStation Europe, has released pics of the retail box for the PlayStation 4, the DualShock 4, and the new PS Camera.

You probably could’ve guessed, but the retail box for the PlayStation 4 rocks the same blue and white color scheme Sony’s been employing for some time now.

A handful of DualShock 4 flavors are on display, from classic black to „Wave Blue“ and „Magma Red,“ and everything looks just about how we’d expect given the last eight months of introducing the PS4. The only bizarre standout — the vertical stand — is, well, it’s a silly hunk of plastic that keeps the PlayStation 4 vertical.
