According to a report from CES 2014, a dozen custom PC builders and manufacturers are among the latest hardware partners announced to make third-party Steam Machines.
The dozen comprises Alienware, Alternate, CyberPower PC, Digital Storm, Falcon Northwest, Gigabyte, iBuyPower, Materiel.net, Next, Scan Computers, Webhallen, and Zotac. Valve may unveil other partners in the upcoming days.
And, actually, two companies have already unveiled their systems.

This isn’t a computer-generated scenario, but rather a team of Japanese scientists has actually managed to levitate small particles, moving them around mid-air, using ultrasound.
According to the research paper: „In the present study, we considered extended acoustic manipulation whereby millimetre-sized particles were levitated and moved three-dimensionally by localised ultrasonic standing waves, which were generated by ultrasonic phased arrays.“
Here’s a bit more info from the paper: „Our manipulation system has two original features. One is the direction of the ultrasound beam, which is arbitrary because the force acting toward its centre is also utilised. The other is the manipulation principle by which a localised standing wave is generated at an arbitrary position and moved three-dimensionally by opposed and ultrasonic phased arrays. We experimentally confirmed that various materials could be manipulated by our proposed method.“

UPDATE 4: As NeoGAF user zorlaczerhero has pointed out, the issue could have potentially been caused by a bursting capacitor (although it wouldn’t explain the occurrence of the leakage on more than one event, unless multiple capacitors burst, which would have inevitably caused CynicalAnarchy’s Xbox One to stop working completely). A couple of users on the Xbox Support forums are complaining about quite an unusual issue with their Xbox Ones. Their Xbox Ones were allegedly leaking a liquid that was leaving a milky-white residue, from inside the console itself.
From all accounts, it seems that it could be the thermal compound leaking out (a heat-conducting compound that sits between a chip and its heatsink, to help channel generated heat from a graphics/CPU chip to the heatsink to dissipate), though the compound itself would have to have been applied quite liberally to leak out. Seeing as the Xbox One’s huge heatsink-fan assembly sits at the full right-front of the console, near the vents, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for the compound to leak out if too much was accidentally applied during assembly.
Usually, most thermal compounds, especially ceramic-based ones, are not electrically conductive, but might be capacitive (though they can hold a charge; they can’t transfer it). So even if the above issues are true, and thermal compound is involved, it would not typically cause an electric shortage on the console.
UPDATE 1: N4G user TIER1xWOLFPACK has suggested that it could very well be capacitor fluid that might have leaked out of the vents. It’s a very plausible explanation as well, considering the people complaining about the issue did mention an “oily” liquid, which describes adequately how the liquid escaping from damaged capacitors looks like. In the case of a damaged capacitor, the people having the issue should definitely contact support and send in their Xbox One’s for repair, since if a capacitor leak is the case, then they could have some serious issues down the line.
UPDATE 2: CynicalAnarchy, the Xbox One owner who originally reported the leaking liquid issue, has updated the thread with two (admittedly pretty low-resolution) pictures showing the milky residue on top of the Xbox One. The residue seems to be on the vent, right above the main exhaust fan of the Xbox One.
UPDATE 3: CynicalAnarchy contacted us to tell his story in more detail. Read his comments below:
“…I didn’t just take a picture as soon as I saw the residue I waited two weeks then I came here to the forums, to try and find out if I was the only one with the problem, and then today, I posted the pictures and contacted microsoft, like the person up there suggested. I take relative good care for my xbox, I’ve only place my controller or the mic on top of the xbox, I haven’t spilled anything on it and the oily sticky ness you see in the pictures is me trying to wipe it up earlier in the week, hoping the problem went away. I’ve read a few off the comment on the sites saying I’m a fake or a troll cause they don’t see any xbox one games on my recent games, Both AC4 and BF4 are xbox one games, the only ones I have. I can assure you this is not fake, I don’t have an actual camera, but I’ll see what I can do about getting a better picture.”
(Note: As far as Xbox One games not showing up on recent activity, this is a known issue and the feature hasn’t been activated yet. Currently, Xbox One game stats DO NOT show up on one’s Xbox website activity feeds e.g., I myself play my Xbox One version of Call of Duty (last played a week ago), but my own activity feed shows me playing it last on November 30th, 2013.)

Though it may look fake and unreal and impossible and not allowed on Earth, the camera stabilizer in the video is completely real. You can’t make it shake. It’s like magic decided to defy physics and ignore gravity. All I want to do is park myself in front of a mirror and do as many twists and turns and spins as possible to see if I can get the camera off track. Like this guy.

Battlefield 4 has officially been banned in China.
The Chinese government is accusing EA of developing a game that not only threatens national security of the country, but is also a form of cultural invasion.
It seems the whole controversy is because of the recently released „China Rising“ DLC. Set in 2020, the DLC portrays China in midst of an internal war triggered by Admiral Chang who wants to overthrow the current government.

They’ve released an untethered iOS 7.x Jailbreak, compatible with all iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and iPad mini models running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4.
You’ve mostly been out of luck if you’ve wanted to jailbreak iOS 7 so far; what options have existed have been incomplete at best. Cracking the code just got a lot easier, though, as evasi0n 7 has just arrived. The untethered jailbreak lets Mac and Windows users freely modify iOS 7 on any device that can run the software in the first place, including newer gadgets like the iPad Air and iPhone 5s. Just be prepared for a rough experience, at least with early versions. In addition to the usual risks associated with unofficial OS tweaks, Saurik (Jay Freeman) warns that he hasn’t had a real chance to test Cydia’s app distribution platform with the new evasi0n release; you’re using it at your own risk.
This jailbreak includes something new for Chinese markets. Instead of Cydia, these users will have access to the all Chinese „TaiG“ store. However, people found out that this store has some pirated apps. Here’s the official word from the evasi0n team:

We are deeply troubled by the rumors and speculation surrounding our iOS 7 jailbreak. We would like to present the whole story to you.
Most of the concern surrounds the inclusion of the Chinese App Store Taig. In the course of developing the iOS 7 jailbreak, we were approached by the company with an offer of partnership in offering Taig bundled with the jailbreak in China. Taig is a Chinese App Store written in Chinese. tailored and, we believe, well suited to meet the needs of users for the Chinese market. Users are not locked into Taig. Cydia can also be installed and Taig removed afterwards. It would be deeply hypocritical to remove choice from the user in the course of jailbreaking.
Taig has never asked us to disclose our exploits to them, let alone sell them. We were simply asked to bundle their third-party app store in China in a similar way we bundle and distribute Cydia around the world as an additional App Store, and in a similar way to how previous jailbreaks like blackra1n have bundled non-Cydia stores.
Of course, the safety and security of our users is a paramount concern, and due to the amount of close scrutiny by security professionals around the world, we offer one of the lower risk programs available for download on the Internet. We are saddened by the accusations that we would ever do such a thing, or sell weaponized exploits. If anyone ever attempted to include malware in a jailbreak, we are confident that the many security experts combing through jailbreak software would find it. The binaries are obfuscated for a similar reason to why we have in the past compiled in Cydia rather than including it as a separate file. We wish to secure the integrity of the jailbreak and discourage its use by third parties who may in fact wish to weaponize it. The obfuscation is of course not intended to deflect serious analysis by security professionals (who have quickly already fully analyzed and discussed the contents of the jailbreak), it is simply intended to prevent easy repackaging by other parties.
Preventing piracy is also extremely important to us. We are deeply sorry and embarrassed about the piracy that was seen today. All of us have spoken out vehemently against piracy in the past. We don’t believe it’s right for developers to not get paid for their work. In our agreement with Taig, we contractually bind them to not have piracy in their store. This was an extremely important precondition of working with them. In entering the agreement with them, we had hoped and continue to hope that our cooperation with Taig will improve the piracy situation in China. Many App Stores within China, including those run by large corporations, have many issues with pirated software. Promoting an app store that is required not to have piracy with our jailbreak, we believe, will help developers.
We are very upset that despite our agreement and review by their team, piracy was found in the store. It was not acceptable and they have been strenuously working to resolve the problem in good faith, and have removed all instances of it that we have brought to their attention. We are happy that it was not overlooked by the community. We’ve been so heads down working on the code that we didn’t see this. We are sorry. We will continue to monitor this issue and work to resolve it completely. Taig will be pulled from the jailbreak if it cannot be resolved.
Many of you have also wondered why this jailbreak was released without Cydia and MobileSubstrate being updated for iOS 7. After we received the offer from Taig, we informed Saurik, our friend, of our decision to accept the offer. SaurikIT had been in talks with Chinese companies regarding potential partnerships, made a counteroffer. We believe they share our views on how a relationship with companies in China currently utilizing jailbreaking might benefit everyone in the community. Unfortunately, the negotiations did not work out. A few days later, we received information that SaurikIT was working with another group to release a jailbreak ahead of us. We decided to release, knowing that Cydia, MobileSubstrate, and jailbreak tweaks would be updated after a few days, just as it always has in the course of jailbreaking.
Yes, we have benefitted financially from our work, just as many others in the jailbreak community have, including tweak developers, repo owners, etc. Any jailbreak from us will always be free to the users but we believe we have a right to be compensated in an ethical way, just as any other developer. However, the interests of the community will always be the most important thing to us. When releasing the jailbreak, we pledged all our donations to foundations supporting the interests of the community. We are deeply upset at how we have inadvertently distressed the community and we are focused on fixing it.
We love the jailbreak community and you motivate us to do this work. Having a choice and freeing your device is important.

The GamePad weighs in at 195g and features an eight-way D-Pad, two analog sticks, four action buttons and two triggers located on the shoulders of the device.
The pad is accompanied by an app (‘the Mobile Console app’) through which users can browse and buy supported games. The GamePad appears to support all Android smartphones, but some features — including a ‘Play’ button — are exclusive to the Samsung Galaxy family.
The company points out that Galaxy device owners can hook their phone up to their TV using an HDMI cable or mirroring apps like Samsung’s AllShare service, and then replicate a home console experience using the GamePad.

SteamOS is already available to download. Based on the Debian 7.1 flavor of Linux, this *sweet* distro has more than meets the eye. Size = 960MB.
Bare in mind that’s it still in BETA.
What’s Steam OS?:
SteamOS is designed primarily for playing video games. Users will be able to stream games from their Windows or Mac computers to one running SteamOS, and it will incorporate the same family sharing and restrictions as Steam on the desktop. Valve claims that it has “achieved significant performance increases in graphics processing” through SteamOS. The operating system will be open source allowing anyone to build on or adapt the source code, which will run on Steam Machines.
Since SteamOS is designed for playing games it will not have many built-in functions beyond web browsing and playing games; for example there is no file manager or image viewer. Though the OS does not, in its current form, support streaming services, Valve is in talks with streaming companies to bring the feature to SteamOS.

Just as promised, Valve has made its first release of SteamOS available for downloads at the same time it ships out prototype Steam Machines to 300 beta testers. Based on the Debian 7.1 flavor of Linux, SteamOS is a platform purpose built for playing PC games on the TV. Cutting out the cruft of desktop operating systems that aren’t well suited for the lean-back experience, one of its main features is the ability to stream games running on a computer elsewhere in the house, so they can be played on the TV, as well as play native SteamOS games.
It’s currently in beta, so Valve is recommending those without experience with Linux wait for a more polished version next year, around the time Steam Machinegaming PCs arrive at retail. Still, if you know your apt-get from your su and want to show those Xbox One and PS4 owners what an open next-gen platform is like, feel free to start the 960MB download here (good luck, some report downloads are already choking under the strain) to check it out early. According to a newly released document, sourced by The Guardian from the whistleblower Edward Snowden, it shows that the National Security Agency (NSA) has been sending virtual undercover agents into several online gaming platforms such as Second Life, Xbox Live and World of Warcraft to catch terrorists as well as other criminals.
Dvice reports that „agents were deployed to monitor chat and root out the secret terrorist cells that might to be masquerading as gnomes and night elves as they plotted some serious real-world raiding. Everyone from Al-Qaida to government-backed Chinese hackers and an Iranian nuclear scientist were found to have been using Xbox Live, World of Warcraft and other online gaming platforms, the NSA said.“
