Samuraï Riot – Kevin BuchetGame Designer at Wako Factory “We are massive fans of cooperative games, especially arcade style and Samurai Riot really focus on the co-op features.

For example, if you protect your partner’s back or hit together the same enemy, you’ll be rewarded and unlock a deadly cooperative attack! Even the story involves both players equally, you’ll have to make team-based choices, or enter a PVP fight against your partner to win the lead!”

“Winning the Game Concept Challenge to make Acaratus a reality means so much to us as a team”, said Martin Kupski, Creative Director at Nodbrim Interactive. “We’ll continue to listen to what our steadily growing community wants in order to give them the truly unique strategy experience they deserve”.

Acaratus challenges players with multiple layers of strategy, urging them to plan a few steps ahead. Players have to construct their own mecha units from highly customizable modular attachments and decide between ranged, melee, boosters and defensive parts. Weapons range from war hammers to longer ranged projectile-based weapons, such as cannons. Ability card decks are also used by players as attack, defence or skill boosts to support their unique play styles and help them succeed in deep tactical turn-based gameplay. Combat takes place in a beautiful medieval steampunk setting with randomised maps, and players can also fight each other in the battle arenas.

  • Valve’s SteamOS ready to download, first Beta machines arrived!

Valve’s SteamOS ready to download, first Beta machines arrived!

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

SteamOS is already available to download. Based on the Debian 7.1 flavor of Linux, this *sweet* distro has more than meets the eye. Size = 960MB.
Bare in mind that’s it still in BETA.

    What’s Steam OS?:

    3AxJEDI

SteamOS is designed primarily for playing video games. Users will be able to stream games from their Windows or Mac computers to one running SteamOS, and it will incorporate the same family sharing and restrictions as Steam on the desktop. Valve claims that it has “achieved significant performance increases in graphics processing” through SteamOS. The operating system will be open source allowing anyone to build on or adapt the source code, which will run on Steam Machines.

Since SteamOS is designed for playing games it will not have many built-in functions beyond web browsing and playing games; for example there is no file manager or image viewer. Though the OS does not, in its current form, support streaming services, Valve is in talks with streaming companies to bring the feature to SteamOS.

    To quote:

Just as promised, Valve has made its first release of SteamOS available for downloads at the same time it ships out prototype Steam Machines to 300 beta testers. Based on the Debian 7.1 flavor of Linux, SteamOS is a platform purpose built for playing PC games on the TV. Cutting out the cruft of desktop operating systems that aren’t well suited for the lean-back experience, one of its main features is the ability to stream games running on a computer elsewhere in the house, so they can be played on the TV, as well as play native SteamOS games.

It’s currently in beta, so Valve is recommending those without experience with Linux wait for a more polished version next year, around the time Steam Machinegaming PCs arrive at retail. Still, if you know your apt-get from your su and want to show those Xbox One and PS4 owners what an open next-gen platform is like, feel free to start the 960MB download here (good luck, some report downloads are already choking under the strain) to check it out early. Need more information on how it’s done? All the information you’ll need to get up and running, from hardware requirements to installation instructions can be found in this freshly-posted FAQ.

Dark Matter now on Steam and GOG

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Developed by InterWave Studios and published by Iceberg Interactive this horror survival side-scroller named Dark Matter has arrived on Steam and GOG, and is available for Linux, Mac and PC for just $15 excluding the 10% off launch offer (You get the three versions at once).

For all of you than didn’t know the game, it is a tactical 2.5D adventure set in an abandoned spaceship full of alien enemies where you have to go trough 14 levels using you 4 weapons and the different ammo types for it.

The Endeavour was a deep space exploration vessel, tasked with exploring an anomaly at the edge of our galaxy. A year into its mission, after a confusing burst of static about ‘light’ and ‘angels’, the Endeavour was never heard from again. Now, almost seventy years after that final transmission, you emerge from cryosleep to find the Endeavour a dying wreck, wedged in the ring of alien machinery that orbits the anomaly.

Dark Matter is a 2.5D side-scrolling survival horror game, set in a derelict spaceship besieged by a sinister alien presence, and infested with deadly parasites. As the Ensign, you must explore fetid hallways and abandoned facilities, scavenging for parts and blueprints, expanding your arsenal to up to four deadly weapons and freely customize each to fit your combat style against intelligent, reactive enemies. Dark Matter delivers a hard-hitting take on the survival horror genre in deep space, with a heavy emphasis on tactical combat and exploration.
