    Solar Ash is a game that is, at its heart, about traversing with great speed through a massive world to discover its secrets. The protagonist Rei skates over wild cloudscapes, eerie landscapes, and great ruins. She’s a stranger in a strange and dangerous land – out of her depth, but pushing forward with incredible will and commitment.

    Here are five amazing things you can do in Solar Ash…

    1. Take down a giant lava-bird-monster 

    Rei encounters a wide variety of aggressively large creatures in all manner of forms, such as an enormous bird-like monster that resides in the lava biome in the north. Why does it live in the burning heat of such a volatile environment? Perhaps you’ll find out. Victory will require great speed, careful balance, and precise timing all while soaring through the air high above the dangerous flow of lava.

    The oozing heat tempts the foolish to leap. Only the skilled survive.

    2. Build out your suit collection 

    As she glides, jumps, and flies across the world of Solar Ash, Rei can grab multiple pieces of gear from hidden or hard-to-reach spots strewn about the world. These will net you rewards in the form of suit parts that can be assembled to unlock new bonus powers. These may be well worth your time to find and build out and succeed on your journey through the Ultravoid.

    Patience, vigilance, and exploration will be rewarded.

    3. Rail-grind up an ancient ship graveyard 

    The universe of Solar Ash contains a great host of desolate, abandoned structures that Rei can glide over and through. Find the derelict fleet floating above the clouds, highlighted by the uncanny glow of the sky. Grind, slash, and platform up this ominous scrapyard. Perhaps there’s something, or someone, at the end of this once-great heap to greet you?

    Sometimes decrepit ruins belie great rewards.

    4. Collect lots of space blood (and other trinkets)

    Traveling mostly alone through a harsh, foreign landscape can be a dicey proposition. Fortunately, the game is full of collectables, including Plasma, which Rei can use to upgrade her shields.

    Players will also find a wide array of investigatable objects, easter eggs, and side-quest-related items that unlock backstory elements of each of the worlds consumed by the Ultravoid. Guide Rei through uncovering what happened to each, the awful fates that have befallen their peoples, and the intricate mysteries surrounding the places themselves.

    Savor the small moments of storytelling and lore.

    5. Take a moment to recite a poem 

    It can’t all be spooky architecture and destructive behemoths. Throughout her journey, Rei encounters some eccentric characters. Talk to Ahrric, who shares an ancient poem used for speaking with the “Elders”. Sure, buddy. Whatever you say. Do you commit the poem to memory? Or dismiss it as the strange gibberings of an even stranger, melodramatic creature?

    Solar Ash ist ein Spiel, das sich im Kern darum dreht, mit hoher Geschwindigkeit durch eine riesige Welt zu jagen, um ihre Geheimnisse zu entdecken. Die Protagonistin Rei jagt über wilde Wolkenlandschaften, durch unheimliche Bereiche oder großartige Ruinen. Sie ist eine Fremde in einem seltsamen und gefährlichen Land – etwas überfordert, aber mit unglaublicher Willensstärke und Einsatz bereit, weiterzumachen.

    Hier sind fünf aufregende Sachen, die ihr in Solar Ash tun könnt:

    Bezwingt ein riesiges Lava-Vogel-Monster

    Rei begegnet einer Reihe von aggressiv-großen Kreaturen in unterschiedlichsten Formen, wie zum Beispiel einem enormen vogelartigen Monster, das in der Lavagegend im Norden lebt. Wieso lebt es in der brennenden Hitze so einer instabilen Umgebung? Vielleicht findet ihr es heraus. Um zu siegen müsst ihr schnell sein, gute Balance haben und präzises Timing, um in der Luft über dem gefährlichen Lava-Fluss zu überleben.

    Die stressige Hitze verführt Leichtsinnige vielleicht zum Springen – nur, wer wirklich etwas kann, überlebt.

    Während sie durch die Welt von Solar Ash gleitet, springt und fliegt, kann Rei verschiedene Ausrüstungsgegenstände aus versteckten oder schwer erreichbaren Bereichen sammeln, die über die Welt verstreut sind.     Das Universum von Solar Ash enthält eine Reihe von verlassenen, einsamen Strukturen, über und durch Rei gleiten kann. Findet die verlassene Flotte über den Wolken, die sich gegen das unheimliche Glühen des Himmels abzeichnet. Gleitet, springt und hüpft euch diesen seltsamen Schrotthaufen hinauf.     Spieler werden auch eine große Vielfalt erforschbarer Objekte, Easter Eggs und Elemente aus Side-Quests finden, die die Hintergrundgeschichten von jeder der Welten erschließen, die von der Ultravoid verschlungen werden. Führt Rei durch den Prozess, aufzudecken, was mit jeder passiert ist, welches schreckliche Schicksal die Bewohner befallen hat und entdeckt geheimnisse, die sich um die Orte selbst ranken.

    Journey inside the Ultravoid with new Solar Ash gameplay

    Hey everyone, I’m Alx Preston, the Creative Director of Heart Machine. You may know our previous game, Hyper Light Drifter.

    Today I’m here to reveal more details than ever about our highly ambitious upcoming game, Solar Ash.

    Journey inside the Ultravoid with new Solar Ash gameplay

    The transition from 2d to 3d took some time for us – building the right pipeline, gathering the right folks. We feel we’ve successfully been able to make that jump, and we hope you feel that way too.

    Solar Ash is a third-person action platformer with massive scale and a focus on fluidity in movement. We really wanted to push scale on multiple fronts. Our traversable world is huge, featuring sunken cities, vast water shelves, and dangerous lava zones for players to fight through and explore.

    You’ll play as Rei, a Voidrunner looking to save her home world from the Ultravoid itself – a massive black hole that swallows entire worlds.

    Fortunately, Rei is well equipped for this task with incredible speed, agility, and other tools to help on her mission. She covers vast distances surfing across the ashen clouds with ease. She seamlessly grapples across gaps and up huge vertical spaces. She gracefully grinds on rails littered throughout the world to reach greater heights and secret enclaves.

    Combat is fluid, simple, and satisfying. We want to empower the player, showcasing just how skilled Rei is at what she does. As you progress, you’ll encounter larger and more twisted creatures, hinting at the more insidious nature of this maw of the cosmos. These encounters will only escalate in challenge and scale the deeper you explore, requiring greater timing and fine platforming skills to complete.

    Eventually, Rei will fight the largest creatures in the Ultravoid: massive remnants hewn from bone and viscose, tendriled, sinewy sludge. These beasts hold the key to progressing her quest and saving her world. Rei is determined to overcome this (literally) huge challenge at any cost.

    It’s an exciting, scary relief that we’re able to finally showcase what Heart Machine has been working on all this time. Solar Ash is an experience we are deeply proud of – everything from the world we’ve built, to the amazing team we’ve become and, eventually, the game we’ll be able to put in front of you later this year on PS5 and PS4.

    Hallo zusammen, ich bin Alx Preston, Creative Director bei Heart Machine. Vielleicht kennt ihr ja schon unser letztes Spiel, Hyper Light Drifter.

    Heute liefere ich euch die bisher größte Enthüllung neuer Details zu unserem extrem ambitionierten nächsten Spiel, Solar Ash.

    Die Umstellung von 2D auf 3D hat uns etwas Zeit gekostet – wir mussten die richtige Pipeline entwickeln und das passende Team zusammenstellen. Wir glauben, dass uns dieser Schritt gut gelungen ist, und wir hoffen, dass ihr das auch so empfindet.

    Solar Ash ist ein Third-Person-Action-Plattformer von gewaltigem Ausmaß, der den Fokus auf flüssige Bewegungen legt. Wir haben uns an mehreren Fronten hohe Ziele gesteckt. Unsere durchquerbare Welt ist riesig und beinhaltet versunkene Städte, ausgedehnte Wasserflächen und gefährliche Lavazonen, durch die sich die Spieler auf ihrer Erkundung kämpfen.

    Ihr spielt Rei, eine Leereläuferin, die ihre Heimatwelt vor dem Ultravoid retten will – einem gewaltigen schwarzen Loch, das ganze Welten verschlingt.

    Zum Glück ist Rei mit unglaublichem Tempo, Geschicklichkeit und anderen Werkzeugen, die ihr auf ihrer Mission helfen, bestens für diese Aufgabe gerüstet. Sie legt große Entfernungen zurück, während sie mit Leichtigkeit über die Aschewolken flitzt. Dabei schwingt sie sich problemlos über große Kluften und weite vertikale Strecken hinauf. Anmutig gleitet sie über Schienen, die über die Welt verteilt sind, um an höhere Stellen und verborgene Bereiche zu gelangen.

    Die Kämpfe laufen flüssig, simpel und befriedigend. Wir möchten die Spieler ermutigen und ihnen zeigen, wie begabt Rei in ihren Fähigkeiten ist. Während ihr voranschreitet, trefft ihr auf größere und düsterere Wesen, die Einblicke in die heimtückische Natur dieses Schlunds des Kosmos gewähren. Diese Kämpfe werden immer herausfordernder und umfangreicher, je tiefer ihr bei eurer Erkundung vordringt, und sie verlangen euch präziseres Timing und geübtere Plattformer-Fähigkeiten ab.

    Schlussendlich wird Rei den größten Kreaturen im Ultravoid gegenübertreten: gewaltigen Relikten bestehend aus Knochen und zähem, tentakelartigem, sehnigem Schleim. In diesen Bestien liegt der Schlüssel zur Erfüllung ihrer Mission und der Rettung ihrer Welt. Rei ist fest entschlossen, diese wahrhaft gewaltige Herausforderung um jeden Preis zu meistern.

    Uns fällt ein riesiger Stein vom Herzen, da wir nun endlich präsentieren können, woran Heart Machine die ganze Zeit gearbeitet hat. Solar Ash ist ein Erlebnis, auf das wir in jedem Bereich überaus stolz sind – von der Welt, die wir erschaffen haben, über das tolle Team, das wir geworden sind, bis hin zu dem Spiel, das wir im Laufe des Jahres auf PS5 und PS4 mit euch teilen werden.

    Our first game, Hyper Light Drifter, is a very personal story. I began work on the game during a brutal low period, stemming from a lifetime of health problems. The game reflected these personal struggles, and development on the title helped to focus on a creative outlet that could sustain and help to build something bigger than the demons that would always be clawing.

    Our second title, Solar Ash, has been about reflection and progress in many ways. Our ambitions are bigger and the team has grown to match. The story still remains personal, but evolves to be something beyond just the weight of the struggle into something more hopeful.

    In Solar Ash, the player journeys through the Ultravoid, a ravenous rift in space swallowing worlds. It’s a place of incredible danger and surreal spaces – a dream none can escape. Familiar though alien, lush but grotesque, peaceful at times and supremely violent in others. Our characters must find solace in each other to make it through the spiral of despair they find themselves trapped in.

    Players will blast through high-speed traversal challenges with wild gravity and beautiful vistas, while slaying massive monsters and meeting other lost souls. Beware the remnants that loom and bristle with hunger.

    We’ve been working tirelessly over the years, building incredible tech to help realize this fantastic world. After releasing Hyper Light, I wanted to dive into a bigger, grander world, opening up possibilities with far more powerful tools.

    PlayStation 5 gives us power previously unavailable in a console: we can push more lush, high-quality visuals at a much higher framerate, we can load seamlessly due to the wild speed of the SSD, and the DualSense can even provide feedback in the controller we had not known was possible. Power is all well and good, but the most exciting part is the suite of tools for more direct engagement with our audience.

    We’ll be revealing more about Solar Ash as release comes closer. We’ve poured our heart into the project, and hope you’ll enjoy it.
