  • Little Town Hero Ventures to PS4 with the Big Idea Edition and New Easy Mode

Little Town Hero Ventures to PS4 with the Big Idea Edition and New Easy Mode

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Whazzat? Little Town Hero is coming to PlayStation 4? You heard that right! This charming RPG will be releasing physically as the Big Idea Edition on June 2!

As the only method to obtaining a physical copy, the Big Idea Edition on PS4 also comes with an art book, poster, lapel pin set, and official soundtrack CD with music composed by Toby Fox.

In Little Town Hero, you play as Axe, a young boy with big ambitions to venture outside his village and see what lies beyond. After finding a stone that mysteriously manifests his ideas, Axe must use his imagination to defend against and discover the truth of the sudden monster attacks in his town.

The unique combat system in Little Town Hero eliminates the need to grind. Strategy and creativity go a long way in defeating your enemies!

For a more laid-back experience, the all-new Easy Mode lowers the attack and defense of enemy Dazzits, and Special Effects from enemies show up less often. Let’s take a quick look into what a battle looks like:

Izzits are ideas that have yet to be fully realized and are marked with a number that indicates how much power is needed to turn it into a Dazzit! Dazzits (shown with a unique image) come in red, yellow, and blue, each with different capabilities. A Dazzit has its own attack and defense denoted on its side.

As you can see from the image above, colliding “Psyche Guard” and the enemy’s “Punch” Dazzits would result in them both breaking each other.

Those are the basics! Let your Ideas lead you on an adventure of epic proportions with Little Town Hero Big Idea Edition, coming to PS4 on June 2!

  • Listen Closely: Insight into the Sound Design of Hunt: Showdown

Listen Closely: Insight into the Sound Design of Hunt: Showdown

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

In a round of Hunt: Showdown, listening closely could save your life. Distant gunshots, the scream of a Hive, the cawing of crows, the barking of mad dogs, or the crunch of glass just behind you: the sounds of the world are what will most reliably alert you to danger — and there is danger everywhere.

Because sound design played such a large role in the development of Crytek’s multiplayer bounty hunting game, today we’re talking to Audio Director Florian Füsslin and Lead Designer Dennis Schwarz about creating Hunt’s distinctive audio-scape and world.

What was your general approach to sound design?

Florian: We built Hunt’s soundscape around three pillars: feedback, immersion, and emotion. These three pillars come together to create the full audio experience. Feedback is the audio language that is readable to the player: What was that sound? Where is it coming from? Is it dangerous? We wanted to enable players to make decisions based on the sounds they hear around them.

As for immersion, we want players to really be transported into the world — so 1895 Louisiana — and for that world to be as believable as possible. So the ambience has to reflect the hot, humid weather, and the equipment has to have that gritty, haptic, heavy mechanical feeling of that arsenal back then — both in look and in sound.

Though grounded in reality, all of the sounds are designed to be larger than life to add emotion to the mix. For example, guns need to sound more beefy to give the player a satisfying feeling of power – or of fear if they are on the wrong side of the barrel. Our monsters and creatures are also not only audibly distinct, but also sound creepy and scary to create an uneasy feeling and tension to keep the players on their toes.

Sound is a big method players can use to track other Hunters, but it also inspires a sense of paranoia. When you hear sounds you know there are other players nearby, and when you make a sound, you know the others can hear you — it’s all pretty tense and it plays a big part in building the games’ tone of supernatural horror.

What other design methods did you use to build up that tone of supernatural horror?

Dennis: Very early in the project, we saw the opportunity to create tension by depriving players of information. Keeping players guessing about who else might still be in the game, or where the next threat would come from, helped us to instil a healthy level of paranoia. Unless you counted all the dead bodies, you could never be sure that you had cleared the map, so the feeling that an ambush could be waiting around every corner never goes away.

Sound played a big part in achieving this. For example, we made sure that gunshots could be heard across the entire map, and that there would always be the chance that another team might pick up on the sound of barking dogs or of the frantic whinnying of the injured horse you accidentally triggered a moment ago.

Florian: Indeed, all the sounds you hear during a match of Hunt are coming from a real source, and they attenuate realistically over distance. There is no fake: If you hear crows taking off or a barrel exploding, you know that another player caused it. We also have a high dynamic mix so that loud things stand out and give the player a realistic sense of how loud they are. That’s why hearing nothing special can create more tension as an intensive firefight – it is too quiet to be true!

What is the best strategy for surviving a round of Hunt? And how can sound help players with their strategy?

Dennis: We took a lot of inspiration from survival games, where players are roaming across scarcely populated areas or wilderness and only occasionally meet other players, and we combined that with match-based gameplay with clear objectives and competition.

Within that framework, we wanted players to be able to decide how much they want to risk. Are you going in to take out other players? Or do you want to play it a safe, collect some XP, and get out with your Hunter alive? There are a lot of strategies that can pay off. Taking big risks can reap big rewards, but they can also cost you your Hunter. Of course this can mean that sometimes you might want to avoid a fight and stick to the shadows. Either way you’re going to want to listen to the world around you, and use that information to your advantage.

Florian: Audio can help you big time on the tactical decision making. You can hear weapons firing and explosions across the whole map, and you can use that information to guess at how many Hunters are still out there. Is that the sound of a team in a firefight? Or is that a lone wolf trying to take out a target? We have seen a lot of different strategies: From guns blazing so everyone else is afraid to engage, to super stealthy to stay undetected and wait for the right moment.

Hunt: Showdown is available at PlayStation Store starting tomorrow.

  • Stumble Toward Greatness with Fall Guys

Stumble Toward Greatness with Fall Guys

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Mediatonic team was absolutely blown away by the reception Fall Guys received from the PlayStation community when we revealed it last year during E3. But we haven’t said too much about the game since then because we’ve been hard at work on living up to those lofty expectations. We’re kicking off the hype train on the path towards launch with our first in a series of videos called “Behind the Stumbles” that takes a peek behind the curtain to see what makes the Fall Guys magic happen.

The first episode of the Behind the Stumbles series is aptly named “What is Fall Guys” as our team feels it’s incredibly important to illustrate that it’s a big, bouncy multiplayer game for players of all types. Our goal was to make Fall Guys the “greatest game show ever” with clear inspirations from Takeshi’s Castle and the lesser known It’s A Knockout. Both game shows put their contestants in such unusual and sometimes ridiculous scenarios that any advantages obtained through skill would often be mitigated by the bizarre variables of the obstacle courses and bumbling paths of the other contestants. We want players to feel both like they are totally in control while at the same time accepting that there are forces well beyond their control that could just ruin their well laid plans.

The design of the Fall Guys themselves plays into this feeling. From the stubby arms and legs that lead to lots of falls and near misses to the cumbersome looking costumes, the Fall Guys are almost set up for failure from the start, though you can’t help but root for their success. Ultimately their failure is what leads to the hilarious physical comedy of the game and some of the ultra tense moments of competition, something we think will keep players coming back to perfect their skills and up their avoidance of potentially catastrophic situations.

What makes Fall Guys something special is putting those hordes of unwieldy Fall Guys players together in silly costumes and setting them loose in escalating rounds of chaos until only one triumphs. As we say here, we want players to Stumble Toward Greatness.

Our group can’t wait to share more as we march towards launch on PlayStation 4 later this year. We hope you enjoy our first Behind the Stumbles video and look forward to sharing more that focus on other elements of the game like the insane costumes, raucous stages, and advanced strategies for success from the people that designed the game. And keep an eye out for our upcoming open beta, that should be a pretty wild time.

  • Rainbow Six Siege Reveals Operation Void Edge

Rainbow Six Siege Reveals Operation Void Edge

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Operation Void Edge is coming to Rainbow Six Siege on PS4, bringing two new Operators and a rework of the Oregon map to the tense, tactical first-person shooter, and kicking off its fifth year of new Operators, map reworks, gameplay updates, and live support.

A new Attacker named Iana will introduce a hologram that looks, sounds, and moves just like her, while a new Defender named Oryx can straight-up crash through breakable walls using only his prodigious muscles. In addition to these impactful new Operators, Operation Void Edge will also bring gameplay refinements and Operator-balancing changes that will be free for all players.

Rainbow Six Siege Reveals Operation Void Edge

    Meet your new Operators

The new Dutch attacker, Iana, can create a holographic duplicate of herself (which reflects any cosmetic customization so as to be even more convincing). Upon activation of her Gemini Replicator gadget, she spawns and controls the hologram from a first-person perspective. The hologram moves and sounds like her, making it difficult for Defenders to tell which Iana is real and which is the hologram. The hologram can’t shoot, melee, or use secondary gadgets, but it’s a powerful tool of deception that can keep the Defenders guessing.

Oryx is the new Jordanian defender who doesn’t use a traditional gadget, per se. Instead, he can perform his Remah Dash to sprint short distances and cover ground alarmingly fast. Even more alarming is that his Remah Dash allows him to smash through breakable walls (while taking a small amount of damage) and to knock down opponents (including towering shield-bearer Montagne). His strength is so formidable that he can also climb up through open hatches to extend his mobility even further.

These two new Operators will be available for Year 5 Pass owners when Operation Void Edge launches, and will be unlockable for all players with Renown or R6 credits one week later.

    Upcoming updates

Operation Void Edge will also bring free updates for all Rainbow Six Siege players, including an Oregon map rework that expands the basement area and the office tower, as well as renovating the attic connector and meeting hall.

There is also a major change coming to debris replication aimed to make barricade destruction clearer and consistent, and an update to the Attackers’ drone spawn locations that makes them appear near the spawn location first selected by the player. A revamped player hub, balancing changes for Lesion and Twitch, and a new limited-time event are also inbound.

All of this and more is coming to Rainbow Six Siege when Operation Void Edge kicks off an exciting new year for Siege players on PS4 around the world. See you there!

  • Romantic Comedy Arcade Spirits Joins PS4 May 1

Romantic Comedy Arcade Spirits Joins PS4 May 1

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Greetings! I’m Stefan Gagne, writer and project director at Fiction Factory Games. Today we’re thrilled to be announcing the release date of our visual novel, Arcade Spirits, coming to PlayStation 4 on May 1!

Arcade Spirits is a narrative game which takes place in the alternate timeline of 20XX, in which the game industry crash of 1983 never happened and arcades never went away. You’ve joined the crew of the Funplex, a little local arcade, making friends and finding love with your co-workers and gamer regulars alike.

Along the way, you’ll meet a diverse bunch of arcade enthusiasts, and be able to romance any one of them! No matter how you choose to design your player character, all romances will be available to you – or none, if you prefer a story of friendship. We’ve got that, too! Our approach to inclusivity means everybody walks away happy, no matter who they are.

The Funplex plays host to a fun bunch of characters, starting with Naomi, the mousy fix-it techie who cherishes arcade classics of yesteryear. Then you have Gavin, a stern but compassionate accountant, who keeps the whole mess afloat. Joining you in solving problems in the arcade is Ashley, the cheerful mascot cosplayer, whose imagination sometimes runs away with her.

But an arcade wouldn’t be an arcade without gamers, right? That’s where we find Teo, the flirty and selfless one, who runs a local community of dance game masters. You’ll also meet Percy, the warm-hearted retro scorechaser, driven by a long-kept promise to topple a world record. And it’d be hard to miss QueenBee, the hottest rising star in arcade esports, who streams her Fist of Discomfort matches from the middle of the Funplex every day.

Unlike many visual novels, you will frequently be asked to make decisions; building up your personality and your relationships based on your chosen actions. The story changes and adapts based on your decisions. How will your story end? How will you overcome the challenges ahead of you in keeping your arcade alive and thriving? It’s your choice. We’ve hopefully made a roleplaying story experience that engages you, rather than letting you sit back and read for hours. So just be yourself, and express yourself!

All of this is accompanied by a pumping retro-80s inspired synthwave soundtrack that’ll leave your head bobbing and toes tapping. The music shifts to suit the mood of the scene – whether it’s a bright and cheerful moment, or when you think you might have truly lost it all. Let the beats and chords be your guide, as you explore this future that never was, soaked in neon and drowning in nostalgia.

We feel Arcade Spirits is a perfect game for anyone with a love of neon and pixels, tokens and tickets. So we hope you’ll find your dreams within the walls of the Funplex, just like we did when we created this game with love and sincerity. It’s our first game, and we’re so thrilled to be sharing it with you. Thanks for reading, and you can check out our game when it launches on PS4 on May 1.

What is Red XIII? As he himself says: “I am that which you see before you. Nothing more.”

He may look like a beast, with his red fur, sharp fangs and tail of flames, but Red XIII is as eloquent as any human.

He has been captured by Shinra for use as a test subject, and is being held in Hojo’s scientific facility. Speaking of the sinister scientist…

Tifa in battle – the basics

Next we’ll look at one of the main heroes, and how she operates in battle. Tifa Lockhart is a swift fighter, who uses her martial arts to damage enemies.

She can combo fast attacks with repeated presses of the □ button, and unleash unique abilities by pressing △.

In Final Fantasy VII Remake, iconic locations from the original game have been recreated with amazing modern graphics. Not only that, there will be additional areas that you couldn’t get to in the original.

Let’s take a look at a couple of areas:

Final Fantasy VII RemakeFinal Fantasy VII Remake

The Mako Reactor sucks out Mako from the core of the planet. It’s then turned into electricity or liquid gas for cities — though it’s also used to produce Materia and for other research.

The Shinra Electric Power Company has a monopoly on the resource, and have set up various Mako reactors across the world. However, some question the safety of this, and there have been confirmed cases of accidents in reactors at remote locations.

The Corkscrew Tunnel connects the slum streets to the nicer living areas on top of Midgar’s plates. The tunnel coils upwards in a giant corkscrew through the center of Midgar. Passengers on the train carriages are always checked for ID and movement between cars is closely monitored. When an intruder is discovered, military-grade weapons are deployed and intruders are dealt with quickly.

Final Fantasy VII Remake releases for PlayStation 4 on April 10, 2020. To preorder, head to PlayStation Store or www.FFVII-REMAKE.com.

  • PlayStation Benefits, Editions, and Pre-order Bonuses Revealed for Marvel’s Avengers

PlayStation Benefits, Editions, and Pre-order Bonuses Revealed for Marvel’s Avengers

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Since we revealed Marvel’s Avengers, we unleashed an 18-minute trailer detailing the havoc of A-Day, revealed the inspirational Ms. Marvel as a playable character, and now, we’re ready to talk about some of the additional benefits for playing on PlayStation 4, the multiple editions available, and the pre-order bonuses that include some bespoke yet recognizable outfits. We’re also releasing a new trailer that shows more gameplay and new explosive moments from the game!

We’re honored to be working with Sony to bring Marvel’s Avengers to PlayStation 4 players, and with that, comes unique benefits along with being able to play the Beta first. Let’s start with the Exclusive Digital Edition available only on PlayStation Store. This edition comes with 1,000 Credits, used in game for Super Hero customization options. In addition, you’ll also get an exclusive Ms. Marvel nameplate that exudes the bright and cheerful nature of Kamala Khan.

If you pre-order on PlayStation 4, you’ll also receive a team nameplate that can be equipped on any of the core six Avengers, an exclusive and sassy Ms. Marvel “Talk to the Hand” Emote that will make anyone’s face understand, and an exclusive PS4 Theme (Digital Only) that includes a simple yet slick hex pattern to brighten up your display.

Adding a little nostalgia for every Marvel fan, pre-ordering Marvel’s Avengers will also let you be the proud owner of the Marvel Legacy Outfits, which are inspired by moments from the comics that defined who each Avenger was as they embraced their powers to become the icons they are today.

Captain America’s bravery shines in this Front Line Outfit from his time enlisted in the military during World War II. Iron Man was able to deceive his captors by building armor that looked liked this Iron Will Outfit to escape. The first time Black Widow’s iconic black suit appeared in the comics, it looked like this Classic Stealth Outfit – complete with the Widow’s Bite. Thor’s winged helmet, chest installations, and red cape were his trademark from the very beginning of his origins, reflected in the Asgard’s Might Outfit. Before Ms. Marvel went on one of her first missions, she made a makeshift costume that looked like this Greater Good Outfit. Finally, when the Hulk first emerged, his massive body tore through Bruce Banner’s clothing to resemble an experiment gone wrong, much like this Breakthrough Outfit.

We also have a Deluxe Edition and Earth’s Mightiest Edition (our version of a Collector’s Edition), each with their own heroic content. The Deluxe Edition contains the Obsidian Outfit Pack, where each Avenger is fashioned with metallic versions of their Iconic Outfits. With golden accents throughout, the Avengers are ready to inspire hope in the people of Earth who have become fearful of the existence of Super Heroes. There are also six nameplates that are Obsidian-themed to fit the overall Deluxe Edition aesthetic. Finally, you’ll get 72-hour early access to jump into the world of Marvel’s Avengers! For those getting the physical version of the Deluxe Edition, it will also include a 1-month free subscription to Marvel Unlimited, which is an online subscription service that lets you enjoy over 25,000 Marvel digital comics.

Finally, Earth’s Mightiest Edition is for the biggest of Marvel fans, the collectors of unique items, and for those who want something special to commemorate Marvel’s Avengers. In addition to all items from the Deluxe Edition – including an Avengers A icon SteelBook® Case – it features keepsakes of each of the core Avengers drawn directly from in-game narrative. This includes a full color 12” statue of Captain America, a Hulk Bobblehead you might recognize from inside our Kamala trailer, a Mjolnir Keychain, Black Widow’s Belt Buckle, Iron Man’s Prototype Armor Blueprint, Kamala Khan’s Honorary Avenger Pin, and a commemorative Avengers group photo!

Phew, that was quite the amount of information, but we hope we painted a better picture of what you can expect with all the editions and bonuses for Marvel’s Avengers when it launches on September 4, 2020 for PlayStation 4!

  • Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story Hits PS4 February 20, Free DLC to Follow

Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story Hits PS4 February 20, Free DLC to Follow

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Hello all you ronin out there! We here at Spike Chunsoft are happy to announce that Katana Kami: A Way of the Samurai Story, is set to release February 20!

Way of the Samurai is a franchise built on Japanese-inspired hack-and-slash action set in a quirky, quasi-historically accurate Meiji-era Japan. The series began in 2002 with Way of the Samurai on the PS2 and has continued through the console generations, finally arriving on PS4 in the form of Katana Kami. While more of a spin-off than a true sequel, Katana Kami still has all of the distinct characters, themes, and action the series is known for.

Katana Kami takes place in the peaceful (for now) Rokkotsu Pass, a familiar setting for franchise vets. The swordsmith Dojima falls into debt, and the conniving debt collectors take his beautiful daughter Nanami as collateral. The protagonist of the story arrives and agrees to help Dojima repay the debt… in return for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Hey, no one said this wandering ronin was running a charity.

This kicks off the game’s main gameplay loop: the player journeys into the mysterious caves under the pine tree “Ipponmatsu” to collect materials and swords by night and sell swords through Dojima’s smithy by day. The dungeons themselves are randomized to keep you on your toes, and the deeper down into the dungeons you go, the rarer and more powerful the items you find. But be careful, because the enemies get much tougher as well. Do you dare delve deeper for better loot at the risk of being mauled by powerful foes? Be prepared to face wild animals, the undead, and elite monsters based on Japanese folklore. Hope you make it out alive, because you lose all your stuff if you die. However, if you’re feeling lucky, you can defeat your doppelganger spirit the next time you enter the dungeon to steal back your lost loot.

There’s also online play so you can challenge the dungeons with others. Or you can just get in there, kill your buddy in a duel, and take all their stuff. Your choice.

Back on the surface, stop by the smithy, drop off all the material you gathered to Dojima, then help him run the shop. Then meet all the quirky characters living in Rokkotsu Pass and take sword orders from them.

There are three rival factions in Rokkotsu Pass, each with its own history and personality. Depending on how you accept (or reject) and deliver orders, you can ally yourself with one of those factions, giving them all the best swords and gear, or try to maintain the balance of power by treating all orders as equally as possible. Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you have the money when the debt collector comes knocking.

Also, don’t forget to download the two free DLCs that are available through February 20-27 at PlayStation Store.

We’re really excited about this title and the chance to introduce a potentially brand-new audience to Way of the Samurai. See you in the underground, samurai.

Hone Your Yokai Abilities in Nioh 2 Last Chance Trial

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Steel yourself, samurai. Another opportunity to slice into the intense Nioh 2 is on the way with the Last Chance Trial (no PS Plus required). Sharpen your odds of survival with some quick and handy insights I picked up from a recent hands-on session with the game. Specifically, I dive into what make’s Team Ninja’s dark adventure a uniquely compelling, challenging action RPG within the genre.

    Last Chance Free Trial

The demo for Nioh 2 showcases plenty of what’s new in this action sequel. Detailed character customization is on display. Players can summon ferocious Yokai to assist in battle (more details below). You can also wield the deadly new Switchglaive – a wicked, scythe-like weapon that shifts forms on the fly.

The trial packs three missions for samurai to test their skills. Venture out Mount Tenno and face the deadly creatures waiting there with a variety of deadly weapons. Although your game progress may not transfer to the full game later, your created character’s appearance does! So pour as much time into crafting your samurai as you wish.

Trial Start: Friday, February 28 at 12:00am PT (Midnight)
Trial End: Sunday, March 1 at 11:59pm PT

    How Nioh 2 Stands Apart

Like many players, I love masocore games that test my skill and force me to improve while also building up my character. I’ve played my fair share of action RPGs set in dark fantasy worlds, where the lowest-ranking enemy can one-shot careless players. Despite my appreciation of the genre, I missed out on the first Nioh, and have anticipated Nioh 2 as a jumping-on point for the series.

After playing the game for a few hours, I walked away with a clearer picture of what makes Team Ninja’s samurai journey unique within the tough-yet-fair genre.

    Yokai Presence

Nioh 2 fuses feudal Japanese history with mythological creatures called Yokai. The result is a refreshing, fantastical blend of visceral samurai combat and enchanting magic.

“Japanese people are familiar with the concept of Yokai,” says Fumihiko Yasuda, Team Ninja producer. “We’ve grown up hearing stories about them in folklore and they can appear in many different forms. Not all of them are enemies; some are friendly or are simply spirits that live in objects. We wanted to share that Japanese tradition with the world, that’s why it’s special to me.”

    Yokai Abilities

These spirits are much more than eye-catching set dressing – they’re intrinsically woven into combat. Bosses may summon raging boars or fiery wolves to cut you down mid-battle. Unlike the previous game, players can summon their own Yokai to perform powerful attacks, like a brutish ogre that clobbers foes with a huge club. Don’t let these powerful attacks make you overconfident, though – you’re still susceptible to deadly attacks. The layer of Yokai-enhanced combat keeps melee feeling fresh.

    Ki Management

Every weapon swing, dodge roll, and blocked attack costs you stamina. This resource is called “ki” in Nioh 2. Mastering the Ki Pulse technique is critical for outlasting your foes, and sets Nioh apart. Tapping the R1 button with precise timing as you complete a combo triggers a Ki Pulse, quickly restoring your ki. To assist timing, pay attention to energy collecting towards your character, and the white bar filling atop your ki bar. Practice this critical technique early on, and you’ll be thanking yourself later.

    The Dark Realm

Certain enemies shroud themself in the ki-sapping Dark Realm. Sometimes this manifests as a puddle-like aura emanating from a singular enemy. The effect slows ki regeneration to a crawl, but a well-timed Ki Pulse instantly dissipates this aura. In Nioh 2, some enemies cause entire rooms to be corrupted by the Dark Realm. Dispel the bad mojo by destroying that enemy. The Dark Realm wrinkle can infuse the most average battle with new challenge, so don’t rest on our laurels.

    Weapon Variety & Stances

Nioh 2 features a robust arsenal of close-combat weapons. Choose a trusty katana, massive hammer, or get stylish with chained kusarigamas. The breadth of options is matched with impressive depth, as each weapon supports low, medium, and high stances. Low stance is highly defensive with short, safe, low-damage attacks. High stance prioritizes big, high-risk attacks that leave players open to lethal damage. Naturally, the medium stance is an all-purpose balance. The exciting benefit is that there’s much to master about each specific weapon, even after you master the medium stance.

Two new deadly weapons also join the lineup in Nioh 2, adding even more diversity to the impressive options.

“Nioh [1] had seven weapon types. With Switchglaives and Hatchets players have two new weapon types [in Nioh 2],” Yasuda-san says. “They’re all well-balanced — no one weapon type is better than another. Dual hatchets have long range, and depending on your stance they will have different range and different combos. Try them and find out what works best for you!”

    Takeaway

Fans of masocore epics should absolutely dive into Nioh 2. Appreciation for the genre isn’t requisite to enjoying Team Ninja’s latest, however. Nioh 2 packs in enough customization and depth that players are bound to find a weapon and combat style that suits their style. Be cautious, master your ki, and prepare for a potent challenge with every step.

Dive into the Nioh 2 Last Chance Trial on February 28, and prepare for the full adventure on March 13.

  • Sakura Wars Takes Center Stage on PS4 April 28

Sakura Wars Takes Center Stage on PS4 April 28

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

Hello there, everyone! Last year, we announced the Sakura Wars franchise would be making its grand return to the West after so many years. It is with great pleasure that we can now reveal the official release date for Sakura Wars – April 28, 2020!

For those who may be unfamiliar, the original Sakura Wars made its debut way back on the Sega Saturn almost 25 years ago. It quickly became a beloved cultural phenomenon in Japan, thanks to its memorable characters, masterful writing, story-driven combat, and sublime music. From there, it grew into a franchise, spawning numerous sequels, spin-offs, and other multimedia adaptations, including prominent stage shows. Hands up if you watched the movie or anime series!

We’re excited to reintroduce everyone to Sakura Wars, presenting a new beginning for one of Sega’s greatest franchises. Whether you’re completely new to the series, or a longtime fan anticipating its historic return, Sakura Wars is an all-new narrative designed to be enjoyed by both parties.

Sakura Wars producer Tetsu Katano (whose official title is Deputy Department Manager/Producer of 2nd Development Division Department #1, 2nd Development Divisional HQ/Entertainment Content HQ – phew!) dives further into why newcomers should be interested in the game. “We’d like users to experience the detailed movements and expressions of the characters through cutscenes, and of course would like them to enjoy the story where users sometimes have intimate communications with the girls to build the stronger bond together. A number of famous creators also joined the team, such as Kohei Tanaka, who has composed a number of music scores for decades including the Sakura Wars theme song, and Tite Kubo, who designed the main characters.”

The Imperial Combat Revue takes the stage as Tokyo’s defense force against an imminent demon threat in this extravagant adventure. Soldiers in wartime, but theater performers in peacetime, the Revue’s Flower Division is not living up to their legacy and is at risk of being shut down. As newly appointed captain Seijuro Kamiyama, it’s up to you to turn the team around.

Sega of America’s associate localization producer, Andrew Davis, provides additional insight. “With the setting being what it is, there are many cultural references that may be less familiar to Western players, like the traditional Japanese candies or the “koi-koi” hanafuda card game. At the same time, Japan in the Taisho era was voraciously importing culture from around the world. It’s that charming mix of the traditional (Shrine maidens! Kimonos!) and the modern (Musical revues! Omelets!) that makes Sakura Wars so compelling. That’s why we were committed to presenting all these concepts authentically.”

During your adventure, you’ll interact with a colorful cast of characters via the dynamic LIPS dialogue system (a trademark of the series), where what you say and how you say it makes an impact both on and off the battlefield. This flows into the high-energy combat system, featuring giant steam-powered mechs called “spiricle striker” that can only be piloted by those with strong spiritual power. All of this is presented in the style of an exciting anime production, complete with gorgeous animated sequences and dramatic character arcs that will leave you eager for what happens next!

Tetsu Katano expands on what makes this title so distinct. “The previous Sakura Wars used 2D Anime-style graphics and a tactical combat system for the battles, which everyone was using back then. However, for this title, 3D has been incorporated to enhance its visual expression, and battles have been changed to action so that users could feel a higher sense of immersion than ever before.

“The game engine used for Sakura Wars is called “Hedgehog Engine 2.” The background graphics, GI and local reflections are similar to our Sonic entries, but the facial expressions and body animation have been blended in for the characters to show the subtle expression. The teary-eyes and the twinkle of the glasses are also expressed in an animation style. We focused on the small details, like the fabric on clothing.”

Now let’s meet the incredible cast of Sakura Wars. First off, we have our protagonist – the main character of our story, Seijuro Kamiyama. Formerly a captain of an auxiliary ship in the navy, he was reassigned to the Imperial Combat Revue to oversee the reformation of the Flower Division.

There, he meets his childhood friend Sakura Amamiya (voiced by Ayane Sakura), a novice stage performer who joined the Flower Division to follow in the footsteps of her idol, onetime mega-star Sakura Shinguji (star of the original trilogy). She believes strongly in defending Tokyo and lifting the spirits of the populace, and fervently prays the theater will eventually be restored to its former glory.

Sakura introduces Kamiyama to Hatsuho Shinonome (voiced by Maaya Uchida), a shrine maiden whose beauty draws visitors to her family’s historic Shinonome Shrine. Born in the working-class neighborhoods of central Tokyo, she’s a true child of the city who loves her people, her festivals, and everyone in the capital. Despite her brash exterior, she’s a dependable comrade.

We then get to meet the booksmart Claris (voiced by Saori Hayami) – full name “Clarissa Snowflake”, a sweet, intellectual girl from Luxembourg who always has her nose in a book. Her ferocious curiosity about the world drives her to read every day and learn about all kinds of topics.

Azami Mochizuki (voiced by Hibiku Yamamura) then appears from the shadows. A descendant of the Mochizuki clan of ninja, she displayed a tremendous aptitude for martial arts, battle tactics, and weapon-handling from a very young age. Thanks to the strict training she has undergone her entire life, she believes unquestioningly in the 108 Village Rules passed down by her clan, striving to obey them at all times.

Finally, there’s the dazzling Anastasia Palma (voiced by Ayaka Fukuhara), star of the European stage who hails from Greece. She recently transferred to the Tokyo revue after spending time in various revues around the globe. A world-class singer and actor, she has the charisma and confidence to play everything from the male lead to the bewitching temptress.

Throughout your adventure, you’ll meet other Combat Revues from around the world, all competing in a biennial tournament called the World Combat Revue designed to sharpen their skills and honor those who came before. Each of these revues and a few other characters were designed by a number of guest artists:

    • Shanghai Combat Revue: Yukiko Horiguchi
    • London Combat Revue: BUNBUN
    • Berlin Combat Revue: Fumikane Shimada
    • Itsuki Saijou and Hiromi Hongou: Noizi Ito
    • Hakushu Murasame: Shigenori Soejima
    • Great Imperial Gekizou: Ken Sugimori

As Tetsu Katano explains: “We selected the artists based on whether our image of the characters match their style. In order to fit all this together, Masashi Kudo has been assisting us greatly, though I believe it was a difficult challenge. Each artist made their designs based on the settings the development team provided. However, the details were all up to them, so their characteristics are shown in their design. Mister Tite Kubo also provided us with suggestions on the names for the core game settings and even designed the items.”

“Localization for the Western release of Sakura Wars was similar to another one of our popular titles, Yakuza 0,” Andrew Davis shares. “The game was first translated by our long-standing friends at Inbound Games (who’ve been working with us for many years) and passed to our internal team for a second pass. We focused on ensuring the dialogue flowed naturally while capturing the quirks of each character’s personality, just as we do with any project. For instance, Hatsuho’s speech is brash and confident, while Azami’s is terse and steely.

“After we were done, we reached out to another outside partner (Keywords Studios) to handle the localization into French, German, and Spanish. Just like with our English translation, these teams were committed to crafting faithfully entertaining scripts in their respective languages.”

As you can see, a lot of work and care has gone into this project. As avid fans ourselves of this series, we can’t wait for everyone to experience this amazing game and hope it’s only the start of something greater for the series in the West. Stay tuned as we draw ever closer to the launch of Sakura Wars this April!

  • Get to Know the Sprawling World of Cloudpunk, Coming to PS4

Get to Know the Sprawling World of Cloudpunk, Coming to PS4

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

I’m Thomas Welsh, lead writer and narrative designer on Cloudpunk, and I’m part of a small team that’s creating the most vibrant, weirdest cyberpunk city ever seen in a game. That city is called Nivalis, and in Cloudpunk, you get to spend one crazy night living and working there. You’ll make friends and enemies, visit underground nightclubs and gardens in the sky, meet the richest and poorest in society, and interact with humans, androids, cyborgs, and people that blur the boundaries between all three.

When I came onboard to help Marko (our project lead) create Cloudpunk’s story, I had the greatest opportunity any writer can be offered! I was presented with a beautiful voxel world that the player could fly around or explore on foot, and Marko had just one job for me.

“Fill this world with stories large and small – drama, tragedy, action, and comedy, and a cast of characters as weird and wonderful as you can imagine.”

    It was a dream project!

To help me write for this open world, narrative-focused game, we looked at story-based games we loved. Games like Firewatch, Disco Elysium, and Kentucky Route Zero. Taking these as inspiration, I wrote an overarching main story as well as a hundred little side stories for the player to explore. Within those stories, Cloudpunk offers some tough moral choices for the player – choices that will change the lives of the people living in Nivalis forever.

The main plot of Cloudpunk follows the ordinary life of delivery driver Rania during her first nightshift in the city. I’ve always loved games and movies that took place over the course of one crazy night: Die Hard, The Warriors, Arkham Asylym. That’s the kind of night we want you to have when you’re playing Cloudpunk!

Nivalis stretches high into the clouds above and plunges down through the ocean waves below. It’s neon-streaked and noisy, filled with jazz and synth-pop, and it’s almost always raining. When designing the city, we were inspired by movies and games, but also by real places like Shinjuku in Tokyo, Hong Kong and Seoul.

As you explore Nivalis at night, you’re accompanied by your grizzled Cloudpunk call handler Control, and your only friend is your AI dog Camus whose personality has been uploaded into your flying car.

You’ll meet many more characters throughout the night too. Characters like BlockFourOh, a robot gang pursued by the authorities because of their urban renewal projects. Or Dolly, a pop superstar who has been replaced by an android doppelganger. Then there’s Huxley, a malfunctioning robot PI who can only talk in clichés. Or maybe you’ll come across Gorgothoa, a malfunctioning elevator that thinks he’s a reincarnation of a flesh-eating elder God.

There’s no shooting, combat, RPG stats, or unlockable skills in Cloudpunk. Instead, Cloudpunk is about the city you explore and the characters you meet. You’ll also search out rare collectibles for delivery, like antique video game “cartridges” to sell on the black market, or digital tapes that contain the deleted memories of your android neighbor.

Life in Nivalis is tough but it’s only by forming new connections with the strange residents of this vast city that you’ll make it through to the morning light.

  • New Resident Evil Resistance Masterminds Revealed

New Resident Evil Resistance Masterminds Revealed

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Two new Masterminds are joining the cast of Resident Evil Resistance, bringing their own unique brand of fear to the asymmetrical survival horror experience as they attempt to stop the Survivors from making their escape. We’ve got fresh new details on Alex Wesker and Ozwell Spencer, joining series newcomer Daniel Fabron and the infamous Annette Birkin.

    Alex Wesker

For those of you who have played Resident Evil Revelations 2, you’ll likely recognize the name Alex Wesker, not to be confused with Albert Wesker. The two share a last name, but the way they carry out their objectives couldn’t be more different. Alex tends to prefer more indirect means to achieve her goals, putting her subjects through psychological horrors and experiments that make her well suited to her role as a Mastermind. In fact, the PlayStation Blog’s very own Tim Turi asked the team behind the game why they decided to add Alex.

Peter Fabiano, Producer for Resident Evil Resistance and Resident Evil 3, explains:

“Considering the way Alex is portrayed in-lore and in Resident Evil Revelations 2, it only made sense to include her as a Mastermind. She was the first character we thought of when coming up with Masterminds. In fact, in Revelations 2, she conducted her own experiments where she taunted her subjects over loudspeakers in a similar vein to the Masterminds in Resistance, making her a perfect fit.”

As you might have guessed, Alex’s playstyle is all about manipulation, making her a great choice for those who prefer a slightly more indirect approach over brute force. With a greater focus on traps than other Masterminds, Alex can influence the layout of a stage to catch Survivors off-guard or force them to deal with roadblocks as she enhances zombies and other creatures. Playing into these themes, she has a particularly vicious bioweapon at her disposal: Yateveo.

We’ll kick it back to Tim for a moment, who asked the team how they decided on a plant-based monster for Alex, given the long history of plant-themed creatures in past games. Peter has this to say about Yateveo:

“You’ve got a few plant-based enemies in the Resident Evil series. Plant 42, Ivy, and the Huge Plant from the Outbreak games, for example. Yateveo doesn’t take direct influence from any of them – or maybe it indirectly does from all of them – but we thought it would be interesting to have a Mastermind use a creature that’s fixed in one spot. This could add a layer of strategy to how Masterminds could play.”

It may seem strange to have a powerful bioweapon that stays firmly in place, but if you look up the root of Yateveo, you’ll understand just how deadly a stationary plant can be – particularly if it’s blocking an important objective for the Survivors.

Let’s move on to our next Mastermind….

    Ozwell E. Spencer

Synonymous with Umbrella itself, Ozwell is one of the company’s founders who refuses to face his own mortality while forcing others to face theirs. Since Resistance is a non-canon entry in the Resident Evil series, the team behind the game was able to have a bit of fun with who they included as a Mastermind. They decided to turn to the series’ long history and characters who haven’t had much time in the limelight. Here’s Peter on the matter:

“Ozwell has been a shadowy antagonist throughout most of the Resident Evil series, so we thought it would be fun to bring the father of all bioweapons and Umbrella itself to the forefront. We didn’t really see him before Resident Evil 5, and this gave us a chance to have some fun and make him a playable character – even if he’s only playable via the Mastermind’s cameras.”
Deeply intrigued by Alex’s reports of a virus mutation that grants superhuman abilities without altering the subject’s physical appearance, Ozwell decides to take a more direct approach to the experiments. With the help of the latest and greatest in Umbrella technology, the founder of Umbrella is ready to unleash untold horrors upon the Survivors.

If you’re familiar with the other Masterminds that have been revealed previously, then you’ll know that Annette Birkin can summon the mutated G-Birkin to unleash his fury, while newcomer Daniel Fabron calls in a mighty Tyrant to crush the Survivors into paste. Unlike the other Masterminds, however, Ozwell doesn’t have a controllable bioweapon. Rather, he uses Umbrella’s cutting edge technology to create a Disintegration Field that causes severe damage to any Survivors foolish enough to pass through it. Tim asked about this unique ability in comparison to the other Masterminds.

Here’s what Peter had to say on behalf of the dev team:

“Spencer is the type of Mastermind who is always lurking in the shadows, and letting others do his dirty work. We decided that instead of directly controlling a bioweapon as his signature skill, we wanted to do something a bit more indirect. Since a big part of his toolkit focuses on ways to delay and redirect Survivors as well as reduce their remaining time, we thought the Disintegration Field would be perfect for him.

“The cooldown is much shorter than other bioweapons, and only does damage to the Survivors – the creatures he places are unaffected. He’s able to constantly redirect Survivor movement to his advantage by changing the stage’s layout, and it also changes the pacing of gameplay with Spencer compared to other Masterminds. Instead of one big game changing moment, he slowly but steadily wears out the Survivors.”

And there you have it! You’ll be able to take charge of your own experiments from the Mastermind’s chair in just a few weeks with Resident Evil Resistance, included with Resident Evil 3 when it comes to PlayStation 4 on April 3, 2020.

MLB The Show 20 Shares Five Road to the Show Updates

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

This year in MLB The Show 20, relationships matter more than ever.

Read on for tips on how to be the best you can be in Road To The Show, coming to PS4 March 17.

    Instant Gratification for Good Play

Through our new easy-to-follow iconography, in-play gains to both attributes and relationships are messaged instantaneously the moment that you earn them. The effect is a more satisfying and rhythmic experience of accomplishment as you get in your groove and execute one good act after another.

    On-field Relationship Gains and Effects

We all do better when the team is clicking. Relationships with individual teammates now progress as you make plays with them, and with performance boosts earned at each new relationship tier these gains cause you to bring the best out of each other on the field. Individual Rival relationships are impacted by in-game events as well, giving you a chance to develop rivals based on in-game competitive history.

Enhanced Challenge System Offers an Organic Variety of Targeted Progression Options

Our RttS Challenge System has been augmented in several ways. To start, new challenges identify and surface the highest leverage moments for you to impact your team’s win expectancy, linking them organically to the dynamic flow of the game.

Even more notable is that you can now choose your challenge based on what attribute, cap, or personality you want to advance. Choosing from a selection of multi-reward challenges that spawn from an emergent high-leverage moment links your player progression experience in real time with the memorable moments that characterize your rise to unique greatness.
Did you notice we mentioned personality? This new addition of on-field Personality gains as challenge rewards speeds up your perk progression.

Road to the Show Introduces Item Rewards

Collecting and equipping a unique set of items is a fun way to contribute to your player’s skill set and sense of identity. Now, any “Boss Battle Challenge” that is successfully completed will reap an item reward. And if you are lucky the new multi-reward Challenges mentioned in the above section might spawn a rare opportunity to go for an item reward.

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

There are a scant 108 days to go until The Last of Us Part II releases on May 29! The end of development puts us one very large step closer to launch. We know all of you have been so patient over the last few years, so it’s been thrilling to see our game taking on its final shape and knowing that means it will be in your hands soon. Today, we’re kicking off regular communications about The Last of Us Part II with a few awesome announcements!

The Last of Us Part II Ellie Edition Returns

You’ve been sending us letters, e-mails, and messages on social media asking if we could get more Ellie Editions in your hands. Since selling out last September, we’ve been working closely with the teams at PlayStation to make more The Last of Us Part II Ellie Editions. We’re delighted to let you know the Ellie Edition will be back and available for pre-order in limited quantities (available at select retailers across US and Canada only) starting Thursday, February 13, at 6:00am PST at Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart.com, Target, and in Canada exclusively at EB Games for $229.99 USD / $299.99 CAD MSRP.

Don’t miss out!

The Last of Us Part II Hands-on Demo at PAX East 2020

Not only did Ellie and Joel’s journey begin in Boston, but PAX East also has special meaning for us: it was where we gave you the first ever opportunity to go hands on with The Last of Us back in 2013. We thought it would only be fitting to return to the city that started it all to give fans the first-ever public hands-on with The Last of Us Part II. From February 27 until March 1, attendees will have an opportunity to play “Patrol,” featuring an early area of the game where Ellie and Dina must venture out of Jackson into the surrounding areas to clear out infected. The demo will span an hour of gameplay and provide just a small glimpse into what awaits you in the full game.

Attendees can visit the booth to play the demo, but space is limited! We recommend securing your spot via the Experience PlayStation mobile app available on Apple Store* and Google Play**. New appointments will be made available each day of the show. For more information about the demo and to get updates about our presence at PAX East, keep an eye on Naughty Dog’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages.

Following up the 12″ limited-edition Ellie statue revealed on Outbreak Day 2019, we’ve teamed up with Dark Horse once again to release a brand new 8″ “Ellie with Machete” polyresin statuette. Designed and sculpted by our incredibly talented character artists, this new statuette will be a limited production run based on the number of pre-orders received via Dark Horse Direct before March 13, 2020. After that, it’s gone! You can begin pre-ordering today. Additionally, Dark Horse will be releasing an 8″ PVC version of the “Ellie with Bow” statue revealed last year, which will be available at participating retailers this summer.

You can see them now on CookandBecker.com.

New Key Art, Wallpapers, and Free PlayStation 4 System Dynamic Theme

Speaking of art, today we’re proud to reveal our two latest pieces of key art for The Last of Us Part II, which explore the two sides of Ellie’s journey: from the relative peace she’s found when the story begins to the relentless pursuit of vengeance that follows.

You can download high-resolution versions of the art as wallpapers for your device of choice via PlayStation.com/wallpapers. We’ve also produced a new dynamic system theme that transitions from day to night based on your PS4 system clock, available now for free at PlayStation Store.

  • What to Expect in Dead Cells’ New DLC, The Bad Seed, Out Today

What to Expect in Dead Cells’ New DLC, The Bad Seed, Out Today

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Heya everyone, I hope that you’re all getting into the swing of 2020 and had some nice time off over the holidays. While it’s now a bit late to pass this off as a “Christmas update,” we have a little something for you that we hope will make the start of this new decade a little more fun.

Dead Cells The Bad Seed DLC which we’ve been cooking up for the past eight months or so is finally ready to make you die a hundred times again, but we’ve made sure it will be fun and fair deaths (…most of the time). We’re also releasing the Legacy Update later and its ice-themed items and mutations later that month.

One thing we hope you’ll like in The Bad Seed is our first two-handed weapon, the Scythe. If you’ve ever wanted to feel like Death himself wandering around tapping people on the shoulder with your bony fingers of doom, then you’ll love this! It’s a heavy weapon that takes up both weapon slots and has different attacks on the square and triangle buttons. If you follow one after the other you’ll crit and tear anything in your path to shreds. Which, unsurprisingly, feels great.

The two new biomes both tackle the dear-to-our-heart theme of the impact of Humanity on Earth and its ecosystems. As such, we have been building the new content with a simple mission in mind: reminding you that, even when roleplaying as an immortal life form embodying a razor-sharp assassin, Nature will kick your ass as easily as if you were a defenseless newborn just out of your mother’s womb…

Jokes aside, we indeed wanted to offer you areas that felt more organic than we’ve done in the base game. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to build a level with a sense of scale that we’ve not done before in Dead Cells. Veterans of the game will immediately notice the huge trees and the mini-boss fights between them. The ticks will likely pose something of a problem for the uninitiated.

If you manage to avoid the Mushroom People’s manic charges, darts from the sneaky blow-gunning frogmen or ambushes from the spear-wielding Banished, then you may be lucky enough to meet the Motherly Religious Figure ruling this part of the island. Don’t be mad if she tries to eat you though, she had a difficult childhood.

Lastly for those who spend their nights pouring over spreadsheets looking for that perfect build and sweet sweet DPS… You might be interested in experimenting with the Bouzouki and the Scythe, though a decent poison build with a piercing Blowgun gets an honourable mention here too. I have a feeling that there might be a new meta in the works for those of you who figure out how to take advantage of all of this, and particularly for experienced players who experiment with Mushroom Boi. Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the new content we’ve prepared for you, please do feel free to stop by our Reddit or Discord if you have any questions or feedback.

    Cheers,

Joan Blachere and the Evil Empire team

  • Create Your Own Universe with Paper Beast’s Sandbox Mode

Create Your Own Universe with Paper Beast’s Sandbox Mode

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

An adventure and a sandbox — Paper Beast has two ways to interact with its budding digital world. In the previous trailer, we shared how the gameplay would work in adventure mode, a 4-5 hour experience. It’s time to share our trailer for sandbox mode, a place for experimentation and playground of infinite replayability in the Paper Beast Universe.

Set your imagination free, shape and develop the universe as you wish.

    Fauna and Flora Ecosystem

Create an interactive and living ecosystem. We wanted the player to feel totally immersed. Special attention has been given to creating an immersive VR world as we carefully crafted our environments. In this imaginary world, physics are realistic.

Players can interact with creatures and experiment with different actions to elicit new responses and reactions. Our dev team has been working on this mode for a long time and they still discover funny behaviors, so we’re looking forward to seeing what quirky and exciting new phenomenon players encounter.

There are 11 different hybrid animal species for players to discover in Paper Beast. You can add to their world by growing plants or altering geological elements and land areas. Play with weather events or insert new objects which will disrupt physics. Try, experiment, and observe.

    Terrain Model

Shape the terrain as you like! Add sand, rocks, water, and observe the erosion. Simulation in Paper Beast’s digital world follows the natural course of reactions to the elements and always strives to rebalance and adapt to player actions.

Whatever actions you choose, nothing is destroyed. The wild nature is adjusting in real-time.

The shape of the terrain will have an impact on every part of the simulation. For instance, players will impact:

    • Entity behavior. Combine elements to play with creatures’ behavior. Each animal has a distinct motivation it will pursue. If you disturb the creature, it will react and adapt to any changes introduced into the environment. What will happen if I fasten a predator to a cable? How will a Bridger react if I add water?
    • Weather. Control the weather in a variety of ways: set a global rainstorm into motion, create churning sandstorms or implement changes on a smaller scale through different types of mini storms. Paper Beast’s creatures will adapt and react to any change or disruption.
    • Imprints Terrain shapes and shifts as interactions between the animals and their environment leave imprints. The landscape in Paper Beast evolves with creature activities.

    Manipulate Objects

Pick-up an object and play with physics. Choose from a number of objects that shape and disturb the world. Add an anti-gravity capsule and watch creatures levitate. What if you add a mini storm or a water tree? Fasten entities to each other or attach them to a parachute. Possibilities are infinite!

Bonus: What is that strange object at the beginning of the video?

It’s a mathematical object that gives the impression there is an inside and an outside when there is only one surface. It’s symbolic of the two modes of the game and the transition from one to the other. The object will have a role to play in Paper Beast.

  • The Yakuza Remastered Collection is Available Today

The Yakuza Remastered Collection is Available Today

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Essence of Game Release! The entire Yakuza Remastered Collection is now available on PlayStation 4 in both physical and digital formats!

To celebrate the launch, and the momentous occasion of Yakuza 0-6 now all available on PlayStation 4 (Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, Yakuza Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3 Remastered, Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life), we’ve released a dynamic PS4 Theme featuring series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu’s iconic dragon tattoo, available for free to all owners of The Yakuza Remastered Collection. Bring the spirit of the dragon home to your PS4 today!

Also, Yakuza 5 director Masayoshi Yokoyama, Takaya Kuroda (voice actor for Kiryu), and Hidenari Ugaki (voice actor for Majima) have a special message for all of our Western Yakuza fans.

The Yakuza Remastered Collection is Available Today

I’d also like to take a moment to introduce the physical bundle for The Yakuza Remastered Collection, which includes Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 Remastered.

This bundle comes in a striking red digipack featuring series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu’s signature dragon tattoo, but it also comes with one non-traditional item for longtime series fans.

That’s right — for those who may not know, Yakuza 5 was a digital-only title when it released in the West on PlayStation 3, which means series collectors had a hole in their physical library where their Yakuza 5 case may have gone. With The Yakuza Remastered Collection, we saw an opportunity to fix that, so every Day One edition of the bundle comes with a PS3 case featuring the Western cover art and English logo for Yakuza 5!

We’re so happy to continue to expand this series for our Western fans – look forward to more from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios in the near future, including Yakuza: Like a Dragon when it releases later this year!
