When you take Star Wars toys, along with real photographs shot with a DSLR, and merge them into one with Photoshop, these surreal scenes ensue. Finnish illustrator and photographer Vesa Lehtimaki specializes in creating these images that appear to be straight from a Star Wars movie. He uses an array of spaceships, vehicles, and characters from George Lucas‘ universe, but set in the real world.

This is the Largest Hubble Image Ever Taken, Views of Andromeda Galaxy!
Reading Time: < 1 minuteWhat you’re looking at above is the sharpest and largest Hubble image ever taken. It stretches 48,000 light-years across the Andromeda Galaxy’s disk, and shows more than 100 million stars. This galaxy may be located 2.5 million light-years from Earth, but since Andromeda fills up so much of Hubble’s field of view, it was able to capture incredible detail in its survey of the galaxy. „Hubble traces densely packed stars extending from the innermost hub of the galaxy. Moving out from this central galactic bulge, the panorama sweeps from the galaxy’s central bulge across lanes of stars and dust to the sparser outer disk,“ said a Hubble representative.
According to Space.com, „The panorama was created as part of the Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury (PHAT) program. This image was created as a mosaic of 7,398 exposures taken over the course of 411 pointings of the telescope, according to Hubble officials.“

8 Pictures, Video of the Futuristic Boeing 777X with Folding Wings
Reading Time: < 1 minuteBoeing has just revealed its latest airliner, the 777X, at the 2013 Dubai Airshow. It’s the first by the company to boast folding wing-tips (based on the 787 Dreamliner), which increase wingspan and, as a result, fuel efficiency, without limiting airport access. The 777X will be both the largest and most efficient twin-engine jet in the world. This model will be powered by GE’s GE9X engine.
Here’s what Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner has to say about the aircraft: „The airplane will build on the market-leading 777 and will provide superior operating economics. The airplane will be 12 percent more fuel efficient than any competing airplane.“ The company has already received a reported 342 orders for the new aircraft.

Incredible Balancing Acts looking like they have been Photoshoped
Reading Time: 4 minutesUp on the Roof: Not for the Faint of Heart
If you’ve seen Harold Lloyd’s classic comedy „Safety Last“, you may remember his daredevil stunts of dangling from skyscraper clock’s minute hand at a dizzying height and generally climbing without any significant support, producing huge thrills and frights. Today we are going to see more vintage and modern examples of such mind-bending balance, done for the camera (without any computer and special effects):
(man balancing on a piece of wood on the roof of a skyscraper 1939 (some say, Harold Lloyd himself?), photo via)Here is another twist on this dangerous „game of chairs“, all performed in the 1920s-1930s:

(left image via)Another insane chair balancing stunt was recently performed by French equilibrist Henri Rechatin in Moscow, overlooking the Red Square – see video here:

These are fabricated balancing situations – created by Chinese artist Li Wei:

„All in a Day’s Work“ Balancing

10 Photos of the Cotton Castle in Pamukkale
Reading Time: < 1 minuteIf you love seeking out surreal sites, that look not of this world, then do we have a destination for you. Pamukkale, or „cotton castle“ in Turkish, is an unreal little village that has some of the most spectacular turquoise water terraces you will ever lay eyes on. For thousands of years, people have come here to bath in the hot springs. There are 17 of them in all that range in temperature from 35 °C (95 °F) to 100 °C (212 °F). What makes this site so breathtaking, however, is how the pools look against the white limestone mountains. The terraces are made of travertine, a form of limestone deposited by the thermal waters.
For those looking to take a dip, sadly you’re out of luck. As world traveler Michael Turtle states, „Whereas once you could swim in the travertines, now security guards keep a watchful eye on anyone trying to get too close. Other than a special swimming pool that has been constructed away from the cliffs, Pamukkale is generally to be seen but not touched these days.
„In many ways, that’s to be applauded. The site is a truly remarkable natural phenomenon and it would be a pity if human interference damaged it permanently for future generations.“

Star Wars 1313: Boba Fett Concept Art and Story Details by IGN
Reading Time: 2 minutesFollowing the shutdown of LucasArts, an important piece of information came to light about Star Wars 1313: Boba Fett would have been the star.
Replacing the placeholder character shown at E3 and Star Wars Celebration, the infamous bounty hunter would have taken center stage in 1313, on a mission through the seedy underbelly of the multilayered planet of Coruscant.
Star Wars 1313 would have begun with a prologue on Tattooine.
Various bounty hunters seen in the game would have worked for different crime bosses, and Boba Fett unsurprisingly served Jabba the Hutt. Here we see a young Fett very early in the game, long before he even has his Mandalorian armor, instead wearing only his most basic outfit.

Android 4.4 KitKat UI leaked images surface
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe images above might be our first look at redesigned stock apps in Google’s upcoming Android 4.4 “KitKat” update.
We’ve been reporting on a lot of Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 leaks since we first discovered an unannounced Nexus device in Google’s promotional video for the upcoming OS update.
While images of the Nexus 5 have leaked several times– we posted exclusive photos and video of the device earlier this week– we have yet to get a good look at Android 4.4 KitKat.
Today another reader reached out with the photos above claiming to show redesigns of the phone dialer and messaging apps on KitKat.
The images show new lighter color, grey icons on the status bar, which lines up with our leaked video of the Nexus 5 and a screenshot for a Google Keyboard update spotted by AndroidPolice yesterday.
The images also appear to show a colored status bar that changes depending on the color scheme of the app.
