Call of Duty: Creating Supernatural Operators for Season 06: The Haunting

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

Making things go bump in the night usually has a very different meaning in Call of Duty – you’re usually surprising an opponent with a well-placed grenade. But Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s Season 06 – The Haunting has been adding supernatural elements to Multiplayer, and Call of duty: Warzone since last month to help give that phrase a delicious double meaning.

We’ve seen a zombie outbreak in Call of Duty: Warzone’s Vondel map, a limited-time Zombie Royale mode, spooky map reskins in Multiplayer, and Halloween-themed twists on classic Multiplayer modes. But perhaps most exciting are the crossover characters we’ve seen arriving as playable Operators, and themed weapon packs based on iconic franchises.

Headlined by Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, we can now see Skeletor from “Masters of the Universe” in-game, Ash from “Evil Dead 2,” and Diablo IV’s Inarius will be making an appearance soon as well, among others. It’s clearly been a massive undertaking to bring so much Halloween-themed content to Call of Duty – but Infinity Ward Production Director Dino Verano says it’s been an enjoyable one.

“It’s been super fun, and you could literally feel the excitement through the walls and Zoom calls.  We were lucky enough to work with such iconic partners and be able to bring it all to life in a Call of Duty way we know players will love.”

Of course, bringing iconic characters to the game comes with its own quirks – we made sure to ask about the process of introducing some of these big names came about.

    Spawn

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

The Haunting’s Spawn content (out now) is anything but a single Operator skin. We’ve seen Spawn’s human form, Al Simmons, added as an operator alongside his classic costumed look (above), a Burned Spawn Al Simmons skin, and skins for many of his greatest foes – from Violator to Disruptor.

“Working on Spawn with Todd McFarlane was an absolute blast,” says Verano. “He’s always got a great story and never fails to make us all laugh – the hardest thing with him was ending meetings on time. ‘Take my creation and turn it into something awesome!’ — what a legend…”

    Doom

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

One of the originators of the FPS genre, it’s no surprise to see Doom represented as part of The Haunting. This Tracer Weapon Bundle (out now) adds the original’s long-range shotgun and chainsaw to the mix.

“A lot of us here grew up playing Doom, but some of the younger folks in the studio were wondering what Doom was, so we took a stroll down memory lane and watched some gameplay, which was so much fun – and it’s still awesome by the way.”

    Hellsing

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

The classic manga and anime series “Hellsing” focuses on an organization dedicated to battling vampires and other supernatural forces, so it’s a perfect fit for The Haunting. The Hellsing Bundle (out now) offers players the chance to step into the shoes of Alucard, the vampire turned vampire hunter.

“Even though Alucard is always smiling, there’s really nothing funny about that one… but he really turned out fantastic, the team really nailed the anime aesthetic, even the way his glasses sort of glow in the darkness.”

    Evil Dead 2

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

Ash Williams is no stranger to fighting off the forces of evil, so this Operator Bundle (available now) fits in very nicely. Adding the version of Ash from “Evil Dead 2,” complete with boomstick Weapon Blueprints and more, there’s even a special extra detail the team worked on:

“For Evil Dead 2, our partners mentioned, ‘OK, just remember that no matter what, Ash always has blood on his face.’ And on a call, our team was just like, ‘OK, so what if we make it reactive, and his face and weapons all just get bloodier as he goes?’”

    Diablo IV

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

The Call of Duty team didn’t have to look too far for fellow developers with experience of creating games about fighting off the forces of Hell. Their Activision Blizzard colleagues on the Diablo IV team opened the door to creating Operator Bundles based on the fallen archangel Inarius (coming soon), and the demon queen herself, Lilith (out now).

“We had multiple meetings discussing Diablo content with the team down at Blizzard. We had an awesome time discussing the project with them overall, and every single one of the meetings involved several people yelling, ‘fresh meat!’”

    Skeletor

Call of Duty: Season 06 - The Haunting Screenshot

One of the greatest cartoon villains ever is quite literally (and some would say confusingly) a musclebound skeleton – I personally cannot wait to see him sharing the field with other Operators. The Skeletor Bundle (out now) comes with a wonderful new Operator, sorcery-themed Blueprints, and new Emblems – but it had an unintended side-effect for the team: “Don’t even get me started on the Skeletor laughs and impressions you constantly hear up and down our hallways…”

Season 06: The Haunting will continue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone until the end of October – make sure to check it out to grab the Halloween crossover pack of your nightmares…

  • Everything to know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 Season 1, out November 16

Everything to know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 Season 1, out November 16

    Reading Time: 9 minutes

Get ready for a new era of competition with the arrival of Season 01 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, releasing November 16. Deploy to Al-Mazrah in the next iteration of the free-to-play Battle Royale, visit reimagined versions of the Shoot House and Shipment Multiplayer maps, team up for an additional Special Ops mission leading up to the first Raid episode, and much more.

Season 01 launches on PlayStation on November 16. Read on for all the highlights coming to both Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 — New Map and Innovations

The city of Al-Mazrah within the United Republic of Adal will be your first map for Warzone 2.0. You may have already explored some of its regions in Multiplayer maps like Al Bagra Fortress, Embassy, Zarqwa Hydroelectric, Taraq, Sariff Bay, and Sa’id.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 includes a wide variety of new features and mechanics, including the following highlights:

Loadouts Remain: Get your Custom Loadouts through Loadout Drops deployed later in the match or by clearing a Stronghold or Black Site. You can also use Cash at the in-match Buy Station to purchase only the Primary Weapon from created Loadouts.

Looting Mechanics: In the new DMZ mode, Operators will utilize a backpack system to further organize their items and equipment. Battle Royale will use a streamlined version of this new system.

    Enter the New Gulag

The new Gulag is a 2v2 environment where randomly paired Duos must coordinate to take down the opposition. All players will receive a predefined Loadout with highly effective weaponry and gear placed toward the map’s center.

In the middle of the match, the Gulag Jailer will jump in to interfere. Defeating the Jailer returns all four Gulag prisoners back into the match. Will you work together or go for the elimination victory?

    AI Combatants

In addition to the Gulag Jailer, there are two other places where players will run into AI combatants — Strongholds and Black Sites. Both are clearly labeled on the in-game Tac Map.

In Strongholds, fight off AI opponents while attempting to locate and disarm a bomb within the time limit. Black Sites offer an even greater danger but provide a permanent Weapon Blueprint reward and valuable in-match items for those who can successfully complete them. To access a Black Site, you’ll need the Black Site Key, given to the first squad to clear out an active Stronghold.

Further Innovations: Aquatic Combat, New Vehicles and Fuel System, and More

Circle Collapse: In Battle Royale modes, there can be up to three circles within the collapse, which will ultimately reconverge for the final showdown. Prepare to adjust your strategies accordingly, as this feature is randomized in each match.

Proximity Chat: Got something to say? Comms are now open, so any in-game chatter can be picked up by any other squad.

Interrogation: In squad-based modes, intel is everything. Reveal enemy locations by successfully shaking down player-controlled enemies while they are downed.

New Vehicles: Call in the aerial powerhouse known as the Heavy Chopper, which can hover in the air without a pilot, or use the all-electric supertruck GMC Hummer EV, a versatile means for the squad to quickly cover serious ground.

New Fuel System: No more unlimited fuel sources — all vehicles use fuel over time, and when it runs out, that vehicle is no longer usable. Vehicles can be refilled either with Gas Cans found around the map or at Gas Stations.

Gas Stations can also repair body damage and tires, thereby restoring vehicle health. However, Operators can also perform flat tire repairs anywhere in the world by interacting with individual tires.

Aquatic Combat: Whether by boat or breaststroke, Operators can navigate waterways, rivers, and the open sea as part of their overall victory strategy. Remember: only Sidearms, melee weapons, and Throwing Knives can be used while you’re submerged.

The Shops: A new version of the Buy Station contains a unique set of items for purchase in limited quantities, including Killstreaks, Armor Plates, and more. You can see these offerings and can buy back fallen squadmates within a new interface.

DMZ — A New Battle Royale Experience

In addition to traditional Warzone modes — Battle Royale Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads — Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will launch with a brand-new experience known as DMZ.

DMZ is an open-world, narrative-focused extraction mode where Operators have free rein to complete faction-based missions, take on additional side objectives, engage with enemy Operators or AI combatants, and search for valuable items, all while fighting to survive toward exfiltration.

Third-Person Playlists: Get a new perspective with third-person Playlists, set to be introduced into the Battle Royale weekly rotation later in Season 01. Modern Warfare II owners can get a taste of the third-person experience now through the game’s Multiplayer.

PlayStation Exclusive — Season 01 Combat Pack

Gear up with the exclusive Season 01 Combat Pack, free for PlayStation Plus members for use in Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare II. Included in this Combat Pack are the “Oni Tactical” Operator Skin for Oni, the “Oni Revenger” SMG and “Oni Oracle” Pistol Weapon Blueprints, plus the “Sony Oni” Calling Card, “Welcome Death” Sticker, “Fractal Demon” Emblem, and the “Demon Fang” Charm.

Relaunch — Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera

Shortly after Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches on November 16, the original Call of Duty: Warzone will relaunch as Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. This is a separate experience and will retain all player progression, Battle Pass content, Store Bundles, and other in-game purchases.

    Modern Warfare II Overview

Season 01 is bringing two reimagined Multiplayer maps, the competitive CDL Moshpit, and more co-op focused Special Ops content.

Shoot House (Launch): Situated in the jungle south of Las Almas, Shoot House’s new home was built for training cartel hired guns with the same level of intensity as Mexican Special Forces Operators.

Shipment (Mid-Season): Set on a cargo ship taking on water in a storm-ridden part of the Atlantic Ocean, a new Shipment is ready to bring back the chaos that only an ultra-compact map can provide.

Get Competitive with the CDL Moshpit: Prior to the official launch of Ranked Play in Modern Warfare II, the CDL Moshpit offers the perfect testing grounds to warm up your competitive skills. The Playlist will use the Call of Duty League’s standard rules, restrictions, and map rotation across the three official game modes: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy, and Control.

Special Ops — New Mission at Launch, Raid Episode 1 Mid-Season

Special Ops is getting a new mission and the first episode of Raids during Season 01.

High Ground: Successfully find and destroy enemy communication servers to locate and extract three hard drives with vital enemy intel. One Operator will be tasked with piloting an Attack Chopper to clear out dangerous land mines, while the other works with AI allies as part of a Ground Assault Team to infiltrate the buildings that contain enemy equipment.

Raid Episode 1: Continuing the story of the Modern Warfare II Campaign, Raids will be the ultimate challenge for Trios with a mix of stealth, resource management, all-out action, and puzzle-solving objectives. Arriving later in the season.

    Season 01 General Overview

New Battle Pass: Experience a brand-new Battle Pass system giving players more agency than ever before. Replacing the linear stream of tiers from previous titles will be a multi-Sector map. Unlock items across the map using earned Battle Pass Tier Tokens. Each map has at least 20 Sectors with five items each; tokens can be used to either unlock adjacent Sectors or earn more items within an unlocked Sector.

    New Weapons

Season 01 brings the opportunity to earn four new weapons, which can then be used in Multiplayer, Special Ops, and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. Two of them are earned for free within the Battle Pass:

Victus XMR Sniper Rifle: A hard-hitting, bolt-action sniper rifle with .50 cal BMG ammunition. Its tungsten sabot-tipped bullets are fast and powerful but require precise shots over long distances.

BAS-P SMG: An aggressive fire rate and modular frame make the BAS-P perfect for the discerning Operator who wants to customize their weapon. Subsonic ammo hides kill skulls from the enemy team.

Two other weapons can be earned later in the Mid-Season either by purchasing a Store Bundle or by completing a weapon unlock challenge:

Chimera Assault Rifle: With an integrated suppressor and slow, high-energy .300 BLK rounds, the Chimera is adept at close-quarters combat. Subsonic Ammo hides skulls from the enemy team.

M13B Assault Rifle: The M13B features a short-stroke pistol system that allows for a high rate of fire and low recoil.

Everything to know about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 Season 1, out November 16

    New Operators

Zeus (Launch): Born in the South Niger Delta, Zosar Kalu is the eldest of three children, helping to raise his younger siblings while his parents pursued political aspirations. Following his year of military service shadowing a Nigerian Army Special Forces Battalion, he enlisted and rose through the ranks.

After losing his family to local Al Qatala soldiers, Zeus established the “Thunder” Corps, a counterterrorism group dedicated to hunting AQ wherever they hide and bringing them to true justice. Unlock Zeus automatically with purchase of the Season 01 Battle Pass.

Klaus (Mid-Season): A member of Denmark’s Elite Special Forces, Klaus Fisker can almost be considered a living legend among Operators. His legend was made one night on the Urzikstan border, where he carried a wounded comrade 18 miles to the nearest base using the lessons taught by his father.

Gaz (Mid-Season): Price’s right-hand man, Gaz became legend in 2019 when his valiancy during an attack on Piccadilly Circus grabbed the attention of the formidable SAS Bravo Team captain. He ultimately joined Price’s elite unit, known as Task Force 141.

Obtain Klaus and Gaz in Bundles to be featured during the Mid-Season Update.

Squad Goals: Modern Warfare FC Kicks Off In-Season

During the Modern Warfare FC event, you can sign three of the world’s greatest athletes to your Operator roster by picking up special, limited-time Bundles: the fearless Neymar Jr., who will debut on November 21; Paul Pogba, set to debut on November 25; and Leo Messi, who will complete the Operator hat trick on November 29.

More details will be shared in-season.

Persistent Prestige: This year, leveling up past Rank 55 will allow you to earn a persistent Prestige Rank across all seasons, rather than having it reset at the end of each season. Beginning in Season 01, reaching Rank 56 will unlock Prestige 1. This will grant an Emblem, additional rewards like a Battle Pass Token, and a set of challenges — complete those challenges to unlock an exclusive Calling Card. Rank up to Prestige 5 for greater rewards.

C.O.D.E. Bowl, Call of Duty League Major to Kick Off Mid-Season

This year’s C.O.D.E. Bowl will be held during the first Call of Duty League Major, taking place right after the Season 01 mid-season update from December 15 to 18 in Raleigh, North Carolina. This event will also host the first Call of Duty Challengers Open.

Visit the League’s official website for more information, including when tickets for the first Major will be on sale.

New Call of Duty League Launch Pack, Team Packs

During Season 01, we are celebrating an early return to the Call of Duty League with a special launch pack for the 2023 season. We are also releasing Team Packs for all 12 of the League’s teams.

Season 01 of Modern Warfare II Launches November 16

Purchase Modern Warfare II to get a premium Warzone 2.0 experience – access to 14 additional Operators to use across both games, as well as accelerated Weapon and Level Progression. As a Modern Warfare II owner, receive bonus XP at the end of each match when you play Warzone 2.0, ensuring that you level just as quickly in both titles.

    Stay frosty.

  • How Infinity Ward created Oni, a new Operator in Modern Warfare II

How Infinity Ward created Oni, a new Operator in Modern Warfare II

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Sharpen your senses, warriors – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is just around the corner.

Let’s dive into more details on a special new Operator while we wait for launch on October 28 (MWII Campaign Early Access* also available starting October 20 to those who pre-order digitally).

Announced at last month’s Call of Duty: Next showcase event, PlayStation players who pre-order any digital edition of the game at PlayStation store will receive the Oni Operator Pack** at Modern Warfare II’s launch, which includes the Hiro “Oni” Watanabe operator as well as a high-end weapon blueprint both playable in Multiplayer, Special Ops, as well as the soon to launch Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.

It wasn’t only creativity that led to the development of this special operator, it was a great sense of collaboration between Infinity Ward and PlayStation to develop an operator that PlayStation players will want to make their main on day one. Below are some details of how Oni came to be.

    Hiro “Oni” Watanabe

One concept that stood out early on was the idea of creating a samurai-inspired operator. A name that came to the fore amongst the Infinity Ward team was “Oni”, meaning “Demon”, and that helped kick start a unique narrative around the operator.

When developing the narrative background for Oni, it was important for the narrative team at Infinity Ward to develop a unique character story that they could continue into the future.

Oni descends from an ancient samurai clan, one that was well respected and lived by a code of honor. As the decades passed and the samurai disbanded, Oni’s family fell on hard times. These hardships eventually forced them to live by less than honorable means. By the time Oni was born, his father had already become well established in the criminal underworld.

Yet Oni’s grandfather worked to remind him that his family wasn’t always about this criminal enterprise.  Oni learned his family used to have a very high standing within the community and had a noble name.

To escape his father’s path, Oni left home and joined the military. He was very proficient, quickly rising through the ranks and even earning a spot in an elite multi-national special forces unit with missions across the globe. He learned how to protect himself and how to efficiently wield weapons.

In time, he returned home, eager to come back to Japan and do what his ancestors had done all those years ago – – protect and fight the threats on the home front – – all the while trying to reestablish his family’s good name.

At this point, Oni’s father had become a respected fixture in the criminal underworld. He harnessed his corrupt influence to have Oni discharged from the military.

Now, Oni acts as a gun for hire, vowing to continue the fight against his father and anyone who should cross the samurai code.

How Infinity Ward created Oni, a new Operator in Modern Warfare II

    Behind the mask

With a robust narrative background in place, the work of designing Oni began. When designing Oni the teams at Infinity Ward worked towards a plausible aesthetic that felt contemporary but with the aura of a dignified warrior tied to tradition.

To make Oni feel true to form, the team dove into what the name Oni meant, its etymology, culture, mythology, and anything else they could find. The goal was to make Oni stand out from the other operators in Modern Warfare II.

Oni’s armor was an important design element to get right, so Infinity Ward started there. The Operator wears polished, reflective armor, almost iridescent in areas, but with the noticeable wear and tear you’d expect from a gunslinging warrior.

The Operator’s helmet and ballistic mask was also carefully considered, being modified to resemble the silhouette of a samurai’s helmet. Oni’s headpiece takes inspiration from feudal warriors that would wear similar-looking traditional armor. That said the night vision goggles atop his helmet make it clear Oni is a modern warrior despite his traditional ethos.

Oni’s unique mask features a striking demonic design that ties to the cultural lineage of the name “Oni”. It also strikes fear into his enemies in a visceral and immediate way.

Finally are the blades strapped to Oni’s back, reminiscent of the daisho blades of ancient Samurai warriors. The Operator wields these swords with violent force in a finishing move PlayStation players should look forward to seeing at launch.

    The future of Oni

Part of the excitement around an operator like this is the opportunity to leverage the robust backstory and design elements to iterate further on him. This launch version of Oni is available to PlayStation digital pre-order players, but players will be seeing different iterations of Oni in the Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 Combat Packs available free for PlayStation Plus members starting in Season 01 of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0.

    Get ready for launch

There is other exciting news beyond the debut of Oni. The new era for Call of Duty begins on October 20, with PlayStation players who digitally preordered Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II gaining early access to the game’s Campaign mode before its official launch on October 28.

Take the full Campaign Early Access period to learn about Task Force 141, its ties to the Mexican Special Forces, and the overall foundational narrative to the next chapter of the Modern Warfare story.

Get a jump start on launch with the new Campaign completion unlocks. Finish the Campaign to earn a Weapon Blueprint, four base Operators, and cosmetic items for Multiplayer and Special Ops.

Modern Warfare II Multiplayer defines emergent gameplay with a focus on variety. On day one, there will be 12 unique Multiplayer modes: 10 traditional modes on Core Maps and two Ground War modes on Battle Maps. Multiplayer will also come with new features such as a new gunsmith, new firing range, plus new maps and modes ready to welcome newcomers and fierce competitors alike. Along with signature Multiplayer combat, Modern Warfare II will feature an evolution of the Special Ops mode from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019).

For additional benefits, get the Vault Edition to receive the Red Team 141 Operator Pack, the FJX Cinder Weapon Vault*** and one season of the Battle Pass as well as 55 tier skips.****

    See you on October 28.

  • Wie Infinity Ward Oni erschuf, einen neuen Operator in Modern Warfare II

Wie Infinity Ward Oni erschuf, einen neuen Operator in Modern Warfare II

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Schärft eure Sinne, Krieger – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II steht kurz bevor.

Rather than simply shooting your way out of problems, New Tales from the Borderlands will offer a branching storyline where your dialogue choices will determine where affable jackasses Anu, Fran, and Octavia wind up stumbling next during an extremely miserable day. Well, miserable for them, not for you–you’ll be enjoying the bizarre situations, snappy dialogue, and pervasive strange humor that’s made Borderlands such an enduring hit as our would-be heroes get themselves into (and out of) another fine mess.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty certainly needs no introduction among gamers–it’s the biggest and most influential first-person shooter series. In Modern Warfare II, players will experience some of the most sweeping and exciting revisions to classic COD gameplay that the series has ever seen. Improved AI, new movement options like swimming and sliding, better vehicle interactions (like being able to fire out of windows), realistic damage, and a huge overhaul to the Gunsmith that will allow players to fine-tune their weapon attachments to create their ideal firearms.

CoD’s much-beloved multiplayer is getting a shot in the arm as well with all-new modes: Knockout, a 6v6 competition to be the last team standing holding a precious package, and Prisoner Rescue, where one team of players attempts to breach a compound to rescue hostages from a heavily fortified structure, while the opposing side defends their turf and works to put them down. Whether you’re in it for the campaign or eager to dive into the multiplayer competition–or both–Modern Warfare 2 offers plenty to get excited over.

You’ll also tackle traditional linear 3D platforming challenges in the Cyber Space levels, which hearken back to classic Sonic stages. But even if you find a means to break out, you still have to contend with an ever-increasing army of rapidly evolving bio-horrors. Marvel’s Midnight Suns

When we think of comic-based games, we tend to think of epic superpowered action-adventures. Marvel’s Midnight Suns, however, is taking its titular heroes into a different dimension: turn-based strategy. Step into the shoes of the Hunter, an otherworldly demon slayer you create and customize as you work to prevent the resurrection of the elder god Cththon. Interact and forge alliances with legendary heroes like Wolverine, Iron Man, Blade, Captain America, and Spider-Man, then command them in battles that test mind and mettle alike. Plan your steps carefully, then leap into combat with a unique card-based action system to utilize your team’s powers to their fullest.

  • How Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer offers more creative ways to play

How Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II’s multiplayer offers more creative ways to play

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Player expectations are high for Activision and Infinity Ward’s upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. With the game sharing a similar name to what some consider the best entry in the Call of Duty series, it undoubtedly has much to prove. At the recent Call of Duty Next event, however, Infinity Ward showed it’s rising to the challenge, adding meaningful options and innovations to the franchise’s formula.

Much like the 2019 Modern Warfare, this new title  sets out to give you greater creativity to provide an extra edge, which means even more fun. The additional pieces appear in the form of various in-game tools that allow you to move, attack, and strategize in ways not seen in prior installments.

These new options are also amazingly balanced, keeping the entry barrier low but masterfully raising the high-level skill ceiling.

    Move how you want

The defining word for Modern Warfare II is “choice.” You have so many options present that you can define your playstyle and gameplay across every mode. One of those options is movement and how it plays into every aspect of the game.

Mantling has evolved, so you can use it in more ways than just getting around obstacles. Now it’s possible to hang from ledges where it was previously only feasible to jump right over or not be able to scale at all. This allows you to not only peek over at potential threats and survey the land but also pull out a one-handed weapon like a pistol and ward off or even finish off opponents.

Hanging isn’t the only new option present in the movement toolkit either. Actions out of tactical sprint have been expanded as well. You are no longer restricted to only a slide to mix up and evade enemies; you can also dive. The difference is in the ground covered and the position you’re left in. Whereas the slide keeps you to the ground, diving gives a bit of airtime and leaves you in the prone position. This tool comes into play in many areas, such as quick escapes, gunfights, and hiding. One remarkable instance witnessed during the initial gameplay reveal stream featured many players diving behind obstacles and even out of windows to avoid gunfire, explosions, and other opposition.

The biggest game-changer happens under the sea. You can swim above and underwater, with the option of amphibious vehicles also being available. While riding a speedboat above the water is pretty sweet, diving with the fishes to avoid enemy fire is even sweeter. This is especially useful in larger maps and higher player count modes like Invasion, where water travel is a constant variable in the grand battle that spans the land, sea, and sky.

    Unique tricks of the trade

Another significant expansion to how Modern Warfare II plays comes from all new lethal, tactical, and special equipment. These new weapons are the drill charge, shock stick, and inflatable decoy, and each adds a new variable to the fight that changes things up in fresh ways.

    ●       Shock Stick: The shock stick is tactical gear that can be thrown on any surface. Once it sticks, it emits a lengthy electric shock that will slow down anyone approaching it. It also makes them lose control of their weapon.

    ●       Drill Charge: The drill charge is a lethal grenade that bores its way into walls and explodes on the other side, ruining the visuals or downright putting down unsuspecting enemies in other rooms.

    ●       Inflatable Decoy: The inflatable decoy is the cheekiest of all, popping up a balloon model soldier that can catch any opponent off guard.

Like the new movement options, these weapons expand what you can do in a match and makes room for even more creativity in play. While each can be used offensively, they can also be effective in evasion attempts, scare tactics to push away incoming opposition, or merely trolling enemies and friends alike.

    Keeping it real and balanced

One of the main objectives of Infinity Ward, when it came to implementing these new options, was to bring even more authenticity and immersion to the Call of Duty series.

“These tools bring more realism into the game,” multiplayer design director Joe Cecot states. “If you’re a soldier climbing a ladder with a pistol, you’ll get that out and arm yourself. That’s why we wanted to add things like the ledge hang. You wouldn’t actually throw yourself over as we see in previous games. By giving players these choices, we not only make it more realistic, but we give them the ability to do the things they want to do instead of being forced to do something.”

But it’s not as simple as making the game as realistic as possible. Both Multiplayer Design Directors Cecot and Smith explained how a balance must be met to ensure that you keep enjoying the competitive experience.

Cecot emphasized the importance of the game feeling fluid and smooth. However, there also needs to be some weight to the soldier and weapon. It’s a constant battle for the team to make it as approachable yet skillful as possible.

This case is seen extensively with the attachment system in Modern Warfare II. You must monitor the assets you’re attaching to a gun when looking to reduce recoil, for example, but have to deal with the incurred negatives to utilize the positives. These hints of approachable realism make this title one of the most intriguing in the franchise, and the optional expansions make the player experience an easy cut above the rest.Fans can jump, mantle, dive, ledge hang, and more into the new world of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II when it releases on October 28. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II comes to PS5 & PS4 October 28

Developer Infinity Ward has left no stone unturned to create a new heart-pounding experience for players.

Task Force 141’s next global Campaign. Immersive, world-class Multiplayer. An evolved Special Ops experience. All carefully crafted with gameplay and technical innovations that will introduce PlayStation fans to the new era of Call of Duty.

    Campaign and Special Ops

Task Force 141 faces its greatest threat yet — a newly aligned menace with deep, yet unknown, connections.

In a direct sequel to Modern Warfare (2019), familiar heroes return and new allies are formed as the globe-trotting operation spans Europe, Asia, and the Americas..

This Campaign is set to be an incredible experience on numerous levels: offshore sieges with underwater combat, all-out explosive assaults from 30,000 feet above enemy strongholds, and high-stakes, low-profile stealth missions.

Deploying alongside you are iconic squadmates: Team leader Captain John Price; seasoned sergeant Kyle “Gaz” Garrick; the lone wolf himself, fan-favorite Simon “Ghost” Riley; fearless Sergeant John “Soap” MacTavish; as well as the newest team member, Colonel Alejandro Vargas, an incorruptible Tier 1 Operator and member of the Mexican Special Forces.

After the Campaign, PlayStation players can join up with their duo for an evolved Special Ops experience, the tactical co-op mode that advances your team-building skills and sets the table for the near endless hours of gameplay you can experience in Multiplayer.

    Multiplayer: Next Generation Innovations

Those who drop into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Multiplayer at launch will be the first to try out and level up multiple base weapons, explore a wide range of maps and modes, meet an international cast of Operators, and more.

With new ways to play and numerous gameplay innovations, including a revamped Gunsmith that offers more customization than ever before, Modern Warfare II will hit the ground running on day one.

PlayStation players who jump in right at the start will also be well-prepared for an incredible post-release calendar, set to include a massive amount of free post-launch content drops featuring new maps, modes, and blockbuster special events that players won’t want to miss.

Modern Warfare II — Technical Upgrades

Modern Warfare II will be the most advanced Call of Duty in history, with a truly immersive experience with stunningly realistic sound, lighting, and graphics. Navigate more lifelike environments via the game’s enhanced rendering and photogrammetry technology. It will be a treat to experience this game on PlayStation 5 with incredible visual fidelity, 3D Audio and DualSense support that heightens the experience overall and will make you feel you’re right in the middle of the action.

The game also features a new advanced AI system. Enemies and friendlies alike across Campaign and Special Ops act tactically using combat and cover maneuvering techniques that would be second nature to a Tier 1 Operator.

Warzone in the next generation for Call of Duty

Development on an all-new, dynamic Warzone experience is also being led by Infinity Ward along with Raven Software. The new, free-to-play battle royale Warzone also features the same technology powering Modern Warfare II, so both titles leverage the Call of Duty engine that first debuted with Modern Warfare (2019), providing the most seamless and advanced Call of Duty experiences ever.

The new: Warzone is scheduled for release later this year on PS5 and PS4.
