This ‘Ghost Clock’ Hidden Under A Sheet In A Museum Looks Ordinary Only Until You Read The Sign Below

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Wendell Castle is the father of art furniture, and his pieces are so masterfully crafted that you don’t know whether you should actually be using them or if they should be in a gallery somewhere.

This clock, dubbed the ‘ghost clock,’ certainly belongs in the art category. Created in 1985, it is on display at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. and at first glance seems to be simply an old grandfather clock draped in a protective sheet. A new exhibit perhaps, or maybe it was damaged and has been covered while awaiting repairs.

Looks can be deceiving however, and only upon reading the plaque underneath can the truth be revealed. The deception is so convincing, the work so intricately carved and sculpted, that it would be impossible to tell from pictures only. It has certainly gotten the attention of visitors who, confused at first, get the magic aha! moment when reading the explanation on the display plaque below.

Scroll down below to find out how Wendell Castle created his ‘Ghost Clock,’ it’s truly a stunning piece of art!

Disney Illustrator Combines Star Wars And Calvin & Hobbes, And The Result Is Adorable

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

Brian Kesinger (previously here) is a visual artist who has worked for Walt Disney Studios for over 16 years, but his work outside of the movie business gets fans going just as much as his animation. This time he has created a magical mashup universe, putting a Calvin And Hobbes twist on everybody’s favorite Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters, and it works perfectly.

“Being a kid in the ’80s I was raised on a steady diet of Disney, Star Wars, and comic books, so being able to work on so many amazing films and projects has really been a dream come true,” Brian told The Verge. Kesinger admitted admiring Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin & Hobbes deeply. “I was always amazed at how he could draw anything from cute stuffed tigers to ferocious dinosaurs piloting fighter jets. His inking style seemed so casual and loose and yet the drawings were so solid.”

“I’m not the first to mash-up Calvin & Hobbes with pop culture,” the artist who has worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled, and Tarzan said. “[but] I think the difference here is that I went a little deeper with the idea. Once I really made the comparison that Kylo Ren was probably a difficult child much like Calvin, it really resonated with people. The metaphor was solidified when I made Darth Vader Kylo’s imaginary friend.”

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

These breathtakingly intricate miniatures are the work of Japanese artist Kiyomi, a mother of two who manages to find the time to dedicate to her hobby which certainly requires a lot of skill, patience, and dedication.

Kiyomi is clearly inspired by the early industrial age, which she recreates with remarkable accuracy in her models. From tiny hats and shoes to sewing machines and even a bakery, stocked with brightly colored cakes, her work takes you back in time to Victorian England or Revolution-era France, it will make you wish you still had that dollhouse!

If you like what you see you can check out Kiyomi’s Instagram and Website, everything is handmade and the food looks good enough to eat!

If there’s one thing skin care ads aren’t famous for, it’s honesty. A Norwegian pharmacy is doing away with all the airbrushing and editing for their latest campaign, however, and they’ve produced a poignant video that shows ‘getting older’ in a new light.

‘A Lifetime in 60 Seconds,’ a collaborative project between Vitus Apotek and ad agency T/A Pol, is a frank and unfiltered look at how our skin ages over time, and the importance of both caring for it and loving it. Women and girls from ages 0 to 100, of all colors, shapes, and sizes were filmed and arranged in chronological order, illustrating the many ways beauty evolves just like wisdom and character.

“We’re not doing any retouching. We’re going to let people be what they are… it’s a really refreshing take on showing the human body just the way it is,” ad photographer Pål Laukli said of the project in a behind-the-scenes video.

  • The Sexiest Men Alive From 1990 To 2017 According To People Magazine Covers

The Sexiest Men Alive From 1990 To 2017 According To People Magazine Covers

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

Each year, since 1985, People Magazine has presented one famous man with the prestigious title of ‘Sexiest Man Alive.’

It’s not all about looks; this guy’s soul has to be in check for him to win the crown, too. Donating to charity, campaigning for social causes, and starring in movies we didn’t hate are big pluses. Most times, we can all agree that the weekly’s inspired decisions represent the screen legends with whom we wouldn’t mind running off into the sunset ourselves. 2017’s pick, however, is raising eyebrows and questions alike.

In early November, People announced that country singer Blake Shelton would grace their covers as this year’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive.’ Sure, he might give off those old-fashioned cowboy crooner vibes, but many citizens of the Internet don’t consider Shelton’s supposed support for Trump and subsequently-revealed racist and homophobic tweets to be all that ‘sexy’ – and, well, we can’t really blame them for that. “I’ve been ugly my whole life. If I can be sexy for a year, I’m taking it,” he told People Country about the unlikely honor.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with the most recent recipient of the accolade, or any of them for that matter, scroll down to see all the men People Magazine has dubbed the pinnacle of desire from 1990 onward, and let us know how many of your top choices made the front page.

New ‘Deadpool 2’ Teaser Is A Bizarre Yet Hilarious Ode To Bob Ross (NSFW)

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Ryan Reynolds impersonating Deadpool impersonating Bob Ross is a parody we probably didn’t want, but a parody we all need. In true Deadpool fashion, it manages to deliver a hilarious take on all the talk of happy little trees, yet doesn’t insult the legendary art instructor, honoring him in a bizarre NSFW kind of way.

Also, don’t worry if you want to actually learn something new about the upcoming movie. 20th Century Fox has included about 10 seconds of its footage and has even explained its plot. “After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste,” the studio wrote. ” Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.”

The sequel to the antihero superhero hit of 2016 is expected to premiere on the 1st of June, 2018.

The video quickly went viral, making some of its viewers “unreasonably happy”

You’ll Never Look At Movies The Same Once You See These Miniature Film Sets Used For Blade Runner 2049

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Anybody who’s seen Blade Runner 2049 will know how stunning it is. Even if you didn’t like the movie itself, it’s almost impossible not to gaze in awe at the incredible visuals on offer in Denis Villeneuve’s incredible follow-up to the 1982 classic. What’s even more impressive is that instead of solely relying on CGI for everything, the filmmakers actually used miniature models for many of the scenes. Well, we say “miniature” but as you can see, there’s really nothing miniature about them!

“They’re really bigatures – they’re not miniatures. They’re massive buildings,” says Pamela Harvey-White, the on-set production manager, in the video below. And few people could disagree when they see the 14.8ft (4.5m) high L.A.P.D building, the pyramid-shaped Wallace Towers that could only be lifted by crane, and the Trash Mesa that nearly filled the whole floor of the studio. “They’re just stellar pieces of art,” she states with pride.

The “bigatures” were made by Weta Workshop, a special effects and prop company from New Zealand (co-founded by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson) which has also worked on such blockbusters as Thor: Ragnarok and Ghost in the Shell.  Around 38 models were made in total, and “each building would probably take about a week to make,” said Ben Milsom, the miniature unit’s senior art director, emphasizing that they were “mega high detailed.” Scroll down to see the incredible results.

Many of the Blade Runner 2049 sets were actually made from miniatures

Well, we say “miniature” but as you can see, there’s really nothing miniature about them!

With the biggest one being the L.A.P.D. miniature skyscraper, which was 14.8 feet (4.5 meters) high

“They’re really bigatures – they’re not miniatures. They’re massive buildings,” says Pamela Harvey-White, the on-set production manager

In total, around 38 “miniature” buildings were constructed

Some were so big that they could only be moved by crane

They were crafted by Weta Workshop, a special effects and prop company from New Zealand

The company was co-founded by Peter Jackson, who directed the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies

“Each building would probably take about a week to make,” said Ben Milsom, the miniature unit’s senior art director

And it comes as no surprise, seeing how much detail the artists pack into a single miniature

An Unlikely Friendship Between A Dog And A Duck Surprised A Small Town In Minnesota, And It Will Make Your Day

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Interspecies relationships aren’t just about fighting for survival. Sometimes animals form the most unusual friendships, and this story is perfect proof that fur and feathers can get along just fine.

Max the dog was 5 years old when Patrick and Kirsten Riley of Strout, Minnesota adopted him. He quickly became friends with Sasha, another Husky they had at the time. However, Sasha’s time ran out and she passed away, opening a void of loneliness in Max’s heart. A void that was soon filled by a duck.

When Patrick and Kirsten adopted Quackers, Max immediately took a liking to him. “Max would sit next to his pen all the time, and they just kind of bonded that way,” Patrick told WCCO-TV. “After we let him out, they never left each other’s side.”

“They sleep together, they eat together, they drink together, they go for walks together,” Kirsten added. “Everything is together.” Most of the time the pair is hanging out along Highway 28. Their bond is so beautiful, people even stop their cars to appreciate it.

Strout is only 25-residents big, so the pair has become well-known in the area. “Sometimes on my way home, I actually hope they’re out there because they’re just too precious to look at,” neighbor Alisa Godejahn said. “We see people stopping over there all the time. The traffic gets clogged up over there sometimes because of all the pictures getting taken.”

Only Once A Year At 11:11 AM The Sun Aligns Perfectly To Uncover This Memorial’s Hidden Beauty

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The Anthem Veterans Memorial (AVM) in Anthem, Arizona, is a monument in honor of the service and sacrifice of the United States armed forces. It is, however, “incomplete” 364 days per year. To fully appreciate it, you have to be there at a very specific time. And sun.

“At precisely 11:11 a.m. [PT] each Veterans Day (Nov. 11), the sun’s rays pass through the ellipses of the five Armed Services pillars to form a perfect solar spotlight over a mosaic of The Great Seal of the United States,” the city’s community council writes. “The five pillars represent the unity of the five branches of the United States military serving steadfast together.” Those include the United States Marine Corps, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force and the United States Coast Guard. “They are staggered in size with their appropriate military seal placements on each pillar based upon the Department of Defense prescribed precedence.”

A lot of consideration went into building this monument. “Each year, the center of the sun is slightly offset from other years by just a few horizontal or vertical arc-seconds relative to the timing of the required azimuth/altitude position of the sun,” AVM chief engineer Jim Martin explained. “Using the statistical mean of the 100-year data, the altitude and azimuth angles for the structure were adjusted to provide time/error fluctuation of plus or minus 12 time seconds from the International Atomic Time mark of 11:11:11 a.m. <…> we also checked the variance 500 years out, and if the structure is still standing, it will work.”

Britney Spears Sells Her Painting For $10,000

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Britney Spears is a true American sweetheart, and just recently, she painted a bunch of pretty flowers in watercolor and sold them for $10,000 at an auction benefiting the victims of last month’s tragic shooting in Las Vegas. It’s the purest thing and people are trampling all over it.

Look, we get it. The woman is no Picasso. But something about those simple pink and blue petals just takes us back to the good old days of art class and Paint By Numbers, and the fact that she did it for charity makes it all the more commendable. “The flowers in my painting represent a new beginning, and it’s in that spirit that we move forward,” Britney stated about the tableau, which went on to sell at the Vegas Cares auction to Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous star Robin Leach.

Despite how unbelievably heartwarming this story is, some people still can’t move past the ‘ugly’ and ‘childish’ look of the painting. “I could paint better blindfolded with my toes,” one user callously commented. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, though, so we’re leaving this in your hands. Scroll down to see Britney’s magnum opus, and let us know what you make of all this calamity in the comments.

Art Expert Removes 200-Year-Old Yellowing Varnish From A 399-Year-Old Painting, And The Difference Is Unbelievable

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

A protective finish is applied to keep paintings safe from wear, but they will discolor as a result of time going by. About two hundred years ago, someone coated a 1618 oil portrait of an unknown lady with a thick layer of varnish and it wasn’t until recently that the true colors of the artwork were unearthed. Art expert and host of the BBC One show Fake or Fortune Philip Mould shared footage with his followers, revealing the careful removal of the protective varnish from the painting, and the transformation looks stunning.

“A remarkable Jacobean re-emergence after 200 years of yellowing varnish,” he wrote on Twitter. Most details of the “Woman in Red” are lost, and all that we know is that she was 36 years old at the time. While art restoration sometimes takes a terribly wrong turn, the presenter demonstrated a high level of expertise when revealing the lush colors hiding under the protective finish.

“The painting was originally in a private collection in England,” Mould told The Telegraph. “We started restoration of the painting <…> after extensive testing of the varnish on an oil surface on oak panel. A mixture of gel and solvent was created, specifically just to remove the varnish and not to damage the underlying paint. It’s different from normal restoration, with the gel suspending the solvent and working in a more controllable way.”

Every Halloween This One-Legged Guy Makes An Epic Halloween Costume, And He Just Revealed His 2017 Costume

Josh Sundquist heard his cancer diagnosis when he was only nine years old. The doctors said that Josh was flipping a coin for his life – the boy’s survival chance was about 50%. He lost his left leg, despite chemotherapy, but by thirteen he was 100% cancer-free. By sixteen, he was ski-racing, and Sundquist even went on to represent the U.S. in the 2006 Paralympics in Torino, Italy. Now, Sundquist is a motivational speaker who’s become famous on social media for his clever and inventive, amputation-incorporating Halloween costumes.

“I’ve always dealt with the social discomfort of my disability by having a sense of humor,” Sundquist said. “But now I’m more comfortable with who I am and what I look like, and I guess with these Halloween costumes you could even say that I celebrate what makes me different. Which may be either weird or refreshing, depending on your perspective.” Year after year, he outdoes himself, and 2017 is no different. Scroll down to check out what this cool guy came up with this time!

Comic Con may be long over, but the most amazing cosplay we’ve seen this year has officially landed. With season 2 of the Netflix original Stranger Things premiering tomorrow, fans are pretty much on the edges of their seats – including a buddy of Imgur user CooterMcDoogletron. Though he’s not exactly a spitting image of frontrunner Eleven, he did his damnedest to craft a flawless impression of the psychokinetic child, Eggo waffles and all. “This and all of this,” one comment brilliantly summed up how we feel about it.
