Electronics embedded in elastomer enabled this exotic dress

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Integrating electronic components into textiles is usually a challenge, as they are rigid and most textile applications require flexibility. But new materials and fabrication processes are changing that dynamic. FashionTech designer Anouk Wipprecht and Chromatic 3D Materials were able to take advantage of those to develop this futuristic, motion-activated dress illuminated by embedded LEDs and circuitry.

75 soft, flexible domes cover the body of the dress. Those contain LEDs and light up in response to people around it. And unlike similar designs, this garment is able to conform to the wearer thanks to the use of innovative new materials.

The most notable of those materials is Chromatic’s ChromaFlow 70, which is a type of polyurethane resin meant for Reactive Deposition Modeling (RDM) 3D printing. The RDM process combines the benefits of conventional resin 3D printing with Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) by extruding layers of viscous resin that are immediately cured. ChromaFlow 70 is very strong and flexible, making it perfect for this application. And RDM is the ideal process, as it is possible to print directly onto the underlying textile while pausing to allow for placement of the electronic components.

The illumination comes from Adafruit Flora RGB NeoPixel V2 LEDs, controlled by an Arduino UNO R4 and Nano board. Those are able to detect movement via a proximity sensor.

Wipprecht and Chromatic 3D created this stunning dress for the Formnext convention in Frankfurt, Germany, where it will be on display from November 7th to November 10th in Hall 12.1.

Primark Are Selling Fortnite Merch With T-Shirts Starting At Just £6

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Primark has jumped on the 2018 Fortnite bandwagon and are now selling a range of very reasonably-priced t-shirts.

The ‘Primark X Fortnite’ collection has sent fans into a frenzy, with gamers excited to pick up t-shirts, starting at just £6.

The high street store revealed the collection on their official Instagram account, much to the delight of Fortnite fanatics.

    They wrote:

Our loot of official Fortnite merch has landed exclusively at Primark. Make your way up the ranks and achieve that coveted victory royale in one of these must-have tees.

The ‘Primark X Fortnite’ collection includes t-shirts for both adults and children, with some of the designs featuring the game’s trademark dance moves.

The post has been liked more than 45,000 times at the time of writing, which shows just how high the demand is going to be.

One person commented to say they’re putting them on their Christmas list, with others saying they were ‘on their way’ to the store.

Primark are well-ahead when it comes to preparing for Christmas – they’re set to launch a Disney advent calendar.

Instead of chocolate behind each door, they’ve gone with something less tasty but something which should last a whole lot longer – Disney baubles!

For every day leading up to Christmas from December 1, you can open up an advent calendar door and add your Disney-themed decoration to your tree.

The new calendar was shared on Instagram by disneyfind, who said:

Disney Christmas bauble advent calendar COMING SOON to @primark priced at £15 – I actually squealed when I opened this!

The calendar costs £15, meaning it’s just 60p per bauble. Which is an absolute bargain, I’m sure you’ll agree.

Selfridges are also getting into the festive spirit early on, having made headlines recently as they became the first department store to put up their Christmas decorations.

In a press statement, Selfridges Christmas and home buyer, Eleanor Gregory, said:

We have so many customers visiting from all over the world, eager to snap up festive decorations and souvenirs on their London summer holidays which they can’t buy at home.

This year it will expand to Christmas gifts for pets, the option to create a personalised family Christmas jumper and more than 50 types of tinsel ranging in price from £3 to £15 for the ‘ultimate tinsel garland.’

The store expects to hit peak stock by the end of September, with customers being able to pick from a range of nearly 4,000 Christmas-themed items.

The cheapest item you can buy is a souvenir pencil for £1.95, one of the more costly items is a selection of ornate neon signs selling for around £8,500 – which is probably slightly over-budget, but why not?

I know we’re only at the end of summer, but Christmas is pretty good, isn’t it?

  • FILA Drop Amazing Pokemon Trainers Collection

FILA Drop Amazing Pokemon Trainers Collection

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

FILA have just dropped a new line of Pokémon trainers and you’ll want to wear ’em all.

Sportswear brand FILA has collaborated with the stalwart gaming and cartoon franchise to bring a little animated joy into the lives of sneakerheads and Pokéfans alike.

You know you want them. Only one question remains: Who’s your starting character of choice?

The five-shoe series allows anyone nostalgic for the nineties to relive the stress of choosing between Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur all over again.

The Pikachu Shoe – or the PikaShoe, if you like – is emblazoned with the shockingly cute electric yellow rodent’s face, for maximum cuteness and to make your choice just that little bit easier.

…If you can catch one in the first place.

With little details of the release date and production numbers, these will be harder to catch than Mewtwo and more elusive than people who still play Pokémon Go.

The style of sneaker, taking on FILA’s Court Deluxe Low-Top silhouette, looks like something straight out of Ash’s wardrobe and comes with adjustable velcro straps because – despite being sent out on parentless adventures – our fictional Pokémon heroes presumably still can’t tie their laces.

    How apt.

Pokémon motifs can be found throughout the sneakers, and the shoes themselves are encased in a glorious ball box topped with the FILA x Pokémon collaboration logo.

There’s a pokéball on the tongue of the shoes and references to your favourite characters including Pikachu, Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur on the heels.

Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur are embodied by their respective elemental groups.

Pokémon Blue and Red turned 20 in February 2o18, to an internet-wide Flashback Friday.

Now, two decades on from the game’s 1998 Japanese release date, the beloved Ryan Reynolds will be joining Team Rocket – but not to take on Eevee this time.

The man who gave life to the Merc With The Mouth has been cast to play Pikachu in the eagerly-anticipated live-action Pokémon film.

Legendary’s live-action Pokémon movie, which has had the rumour mill churning for sometime now, is based on the gaming franchise that spawned a generation of people who can’t make eye contact.

    But with a difference.

Titled Detective Pikachu, Reynold’s titular role will see him take on the character from the Pikachu set, a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things.

The company has high hopes for the film, as the Pokémon franchise has sold 300 million video games worldwide, shipped 23.6 billion TCG cards to 74 countries and has produced an animated series spanning 20 seasons.

Ever since Reynolds joined the Marvel universe as everyone’s favourite R-rated anti-hero with a face like an avocado, he’s become the darling of comedy comic fans.

No one else can skewer a bad guy like him, so we can’t wait to see what he does with all those handy electric powers as Pikachu.

Now Pokémon merchandise and nineties comic book nostalgia is having a comeback, it’s sure to send the collectors crazy.

Just make sure you keep the original packaging, for Pete’s sake:

Unfortunately the Pokémon x FILA Court Deluxe Low-Top collection is currently only available at FILA locations in South Korea. Stay tuned for a worldwide drop.

    You know it’s your destiny.
