  • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Warehouse Demo: Everything you need to know

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Warehouse Demo: Everything you need to know

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

On Friday August 14 at 8 a.m. PDT (4 p.m. BST) – or your regional equivalent time – the gates of the Warehouse demo will be swung open for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 digital pre-order skaters across the globe to shred until the full release on September 4.

It’s time to bring back Tony to the Warehouse – here’s everything you need to know about this demo:

    What’s in the Demo?

In this pre-release experience carved out from the full game, you get to skate as Tony Hawk in the level that started it all for the franchise; the Warehouse, straight out of the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.

For this demo, you’ll be taking part in a classic, no-frills Single Session. You have two minutes – unless you go into Overtime by keeping a combo going past the time limit – to rack up as much score as you can as you explore the Warehouse.

Want to try again? Just hit the Retry button. There is no limit to how many sessions you take.

Following each Single Session, you’ll see a breakdown of your final score, longest combo, and more individual stats based on how you skated within that session.

    All Tricked Out

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 (and this demo) doesn’t just include tricks from the original two games; Vicarious Visions is bringing in more moves from sequels within this storied franchise that you can use.

Here are all the notable tricks you can do in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2:

Manual – While a skater has their board on solid ground, rapidly flicking the commands for up, then down (forward and back) will make them lean on the board’s back truck so that only two wheels are touching the ground. This stance must be balanced by using the same commands, or else the board’s front wheels will hit the ground and end the Manual, or the skater will fall back and bail.

Nose Manual – Similar to a Manual, except it is done by rapidly flicking the commands for down, then up, for the two front wheels of the board to be only touching the ground.

Flatland Tricks – While performing a Manual or Nose Manual, pressing buttons mapped to grind, flip, and grab commands will let the skater perform tricks such as a Casper, Pogo.

Revert – “The Revert became one of the great staples of the franchise, we knew from day 1 that we wanted to include them.” says Leo Zuniga Lead Designer at Vicarious Visions, and you can be sure that the Revert is included in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and this demo. As a skater is landing a trick on a vert surface, e.g. a half-pipe or bowl, pressing either (or both) buttons mapped to switching stances will allow the player to pivot the board 180 degrees, adding to their current combo and potentially extending it with a Manual or Nose Manual.

Spine Transfer – If there is another vert surface opposite a skater’s current vert surface, e.g. two bowls or half-pipes next to each other, pressing the same Revert command while in mid-air will allow them to seamlessly “transfer” from surface to surface, which directly adds to their current combo and potentially could be key to finding extra points via Gaps.

Acid Drop – If a skater Ollies, No Complies, Boneless, Nollies, or Fakie Ollies over a vert surface and presses the command used to Revert, they will land in the transition, allowing them to gain serious momentum and could let them start or continue a combo with a Revert into a Manual or Nose Manual.

Wall Ride – Veteran skaters already know this but it’s worth repeating: If a skater jumps alongside a vertical surface – e.g. a wall – and presses the button normally used to Grind, they will have their board skid along the wall while they ride it, allowing them to gain points and start or continue a combo.

Wall Plant – If a skater jumps directly into a vertical surface and presses the command used to perform a Boneless move, they will come off their skateboard and use their feet to leap off the surface with serious momentum in the other direction as they return onto the board, rather than slam themselves into the surface face first.

Trick Transitions – A skater can transition between tricks by double tapping either the grind, grab or flip buttons while doing pretty much any trick, especially grinds.

    Tricks Old and New

Along with other customizable features within this demo, such as in the Settings, you’ll be able to fully customize and remap Tony Hawk’s trick list.

In other words, Tony will be ready to ride with The 900, Kickflip McTwist, and 5-0 Overturn Grind. However, there are two other Special Trick spots that are open.

Want Tony to hit a Rowley Darkslide, as made famous by street skating icon Geoff Rowley? What about Tony trying some insane tricks from new skaters, such as Aori Nishimura’s Hardflip Backside Nose Pick? All those, and many, MANY more, are available to select in those open slots, or as a replacement to Tony’s original Specials.

Special Tricks aren’t the only fully customizable ones; Grab, Flip, and Lip Tricks are also customizable and re-mappable. So, if you want to swap out Tony’s Grab Tricks, so that he pulls off a Cannonball instead of an Indy, it’s possible.

    Download Information

Ready to experience it for yourself?

First, be sure you pre-order the game digitally at PlayStation Store (U.S. and EU). For those who have already pre-ordered, you will be able to preload the Warehouse Demo starting on August 12 at 8 a.m. PDT (4 p.m. BST). Go to your Library where you will see the Demo available to start downloading. Once downloaded, your demo will be unlocked to play starting at 8 a.m. PDT (4 p.m. BST) on August 14.

If you pre-order after the demo launches you will be prompted to download the demo in the checkout flow.

Stay tuned for more information on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 as we roll closer to launch on September 4.

  • Modern Warfare Season Five expands Warzone by opening Stadium, adding a train, and more

Modern Warfare Season Five expands Warzone by opening Stadium, adding a train, and more

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

    * Timed Exclusive content until Oct. 1, 2020 The Shadow Company, an elite PMC group within the Allegiance faction, has arisen to take the ongoing conflict into their own hands. Fight alongside them in Season Five of Modern Warfare featuring four new Multiplayer maps and new additions to Warzone like an opened Stadium and Transit Station, plus a moving freight train that travels across the map.

The Free-to-Play Warzone Map Gets Bigger

The already massive free-to-play map of Verdansk just got some updates. The Shadow Company’s explosive arrival has cracked open the Stadium and inside the match is on. Want to battle on the go? Hop aboard a moving freight train to get around the map and fight while you ride. Don’t forget to grab your tickets at the expanded Train Station.

Stadium – Don’t land on the roof; go through it. More than just a pitch, move through rows of seating, discover the underground parking structure, and rethink your strategy for a match at Stadium. Don’t get distracted at the concession stands.

Train Station – Get a ticket and explore this expanded area near Promenade. With new rooms, interior spaces, and more opportunities for gunplay and gear, expect the fight at Train Station to be different than you remember.

Moving Freight Train – All Aboard. Travel with your squad and pick off enemies as you go on the moving freight train. Use the track to escape the gas, take a load off, or get to a new location stealthier, without the noise of a vehicle engine.

Warzone Map Tip: The Three S’s of Interior Combat. Shotguns, SMGs, and sidearms are all built to excel in CQB scenarios, which will be commonplace in both Stadium and Train Station. While the other weapon categories can find their place here, it may be worth carrying a close-quarters option in your loadout, if only to be prepared when trekking through these new areas or other interior spaces.

    More Multiplayer Battlefields

Four new Multiplayer maps join the rotation across Gunfight, 6v6 Multiplayer, and Ground War. Read a brief overview of all, plus tips for Suldal Harbor.

Livestock (Gunfight) – Small pastoral map features a central barn for fast and frenetic tactical opportunities in Gunfight.

Verdansk International Airport (Ground War) – Don’t let this tarmac be your final resting place as this popular Warzone destination makes it way to Ground War. Utilize both the interior and exterior spaces to find success. Mind the tanks.

Petrov Oil Rig (6v6) – Fight aboard an operational oilrig featuring five distinct sections within a versatile map design where all playstyles can shine.

Suldal Harbor (6v6) – Likely not the safest place to dock your vessel, this bustling harbor will see players weaving between fish markets, shipping areas, and weather-beaten administrative areas.

    Tips for Suldal Harbor

Chokepoint Ambushes. The long lanes between the fish market and the shipping village could be ideal for CQB players, or for those that want to set lethal equipment traps.

On the Flank. Especially in objective game modes where key areas have multiple points of entry, those using weapons for close-quarters play could use cover and longer flanking routes to potentially surprise their enemies.

Shadow Company Rises in the Season Five Battle Pass System

This Season’s Battle Pass system is themed to fit the explosive and dark tone of the elite PMC, Shadow Company. Instantly unlock Shadow Company’s leader, Marcus “Lerch” Ortega at Tier 0 with purchase. Also at Tier 0 players can unlock three War Tracks – a new customization item allowing you to listen to specific songs while you drive a vehicle.

Earn Two Free Weapons in the Battle Pass System

Play and progress through the tiers to add a new SMG and assault rifle to your arsenal.

ISO SMG (Tier 15) – Lightweight and reliable, the ISO is a precision crafted, fast-firing SMG.

AN-94 Assault Rifle (Tier 31) – Featuring a unique hyperburst where the first round is followed by an instantaneous second with little to no recoil, master this unique mechanism to deal efficient and deadly damage in every match.

Purchase the Battle Pass to unlock up to 100 tiers of content including 10 Operator skins and Missions, Legendary weapon blueprints, the raven ‘Nevermore’ Finishing Move, up to 1300 Call of Duty points, and more. Advance through the Battle Pass system just by playing the game.

    Survival Crash

A familiar Crash site is the locale for the newest map playable in the PlayStation *exclusive Survival mode. Take advantage of long sightlines or head to the rooftops and lock down a building to outlast waves of enemies. Get Killstreaks, freshen your loadout, and restock your ammo between rounds to equip your foursome with the tools to survive on Crash.

Call of Duty: Warzone Combat Pack – Season Five

Complete your gooaaallll of placing first in a Warzone match or earning the Juggernaut in Multiplayer while you rock this jersey skin for Zane in a soccer-themed bundle that is free for all PlayStation Plus subscribers. Download the Pack by going to the Franchise section of the Store and scroll down to the Miscellaneous section. The bundle includes the following:

    • Epic Zane ‘The Footballer’ skin (This skin unlocks the Operator, if not already owned)
    • Epic ‘On the Volley’ Weapon Blueprint
    • Epic ‘Injury Time’ Watch
    • Epic ‘The Sparks’ Charm
    • Epic ‘Stunning Strike’ Calling Card
    • Epic ‘Sparks Pride’ Emblem
    • 60 Minute Double XP Token

The Combat Pack will be available to download on PlayStation starting August 5.

Earn An *Exclusive Weapon Blueprint and More in Missions

The Grand Rapids weapon blueprint is available to earn in Missions. View your Missions in the Challenges tab and complete each task in the multi-step objective to earn the Grand Rapids. The blueprint has a metallic frosty blue shine with multiple attachments including No Stock for a mobile and agile playstyle. Pick up XP and other rewards as you complete the objectives on your way to earning the Grand Rapids.

Tips for Conquering the Battlefield with Sony *Exclusive Content

    1.     Crash in the Restaurant. For the benefit of your Survival, you may want to take solace in the Restaurant towards Crash’s center. The sightlines from here can lead to waves of enemies rushing towards you, only to fall at the hands of your long-range weaponry. Just be wary of enemy helicopters who will come prepared to chop you down from the high ground with heavy fire.

    2.     Squad Goals. On the Volley, the blueprint included in the Combat Pack, is an SMG kitted for more mid-range engagements. If you would like to specialize in this type of fighting, don’t hesitate to use this and an assault rifle or LMG in your Loadout Drops, as the SMG and AR/LMG ammo pools are separate within Warzone.

    3.     Rolling on the River. The Grand Rapids blueprint, part of the Sony *Exclusive Challenge, is configured for closer medium-range engagements, so feel confident with it when challenging others with CQB weapons. The hybrid optic also allows you to compete at longer ranges, but should you do so, it may be wise to mount this weapon in order to control its recoil.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Four Reloaded adds 200-player Warzone, more

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season Four Reloaded adds 200-player Warzone, more

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Captain Price needs you to join the fight in Season Four Reloaded! With the Armistice alliance all but broken and infighting between Allegiance and Coalition forces threatening to cause chaos across Verdansk, here is your emergency briefing:

    200 Player Warzone

With this update, Verdansk will now be able to hold up to 200 players in Battle Royale Quads.

This new player count makes Warzone an even bigger Battle Royale experience, so get ready to drop in alongside 199 other members of this millions-strong community.

How does this change your strategy in Verdansk? Here are our tips:

    200-Player Expansion Tips

    1. With a lobby size increase of 33%, you’ll need to watch your – and your squadmates’ – six more than ever. Consider using High Alert to get visual alerts when an enemy has you in their sights or use your eyes and ears to scan your environment before executing your next move.

    2. Don’t bite off more than you or your squad can chew. More Operators than ever are fighting within the Warzone, so don’t charge recklessly into situations where you know you are at a severe numbers disadvantage.

    3. Embrace the chaos – use team fights in progress to either safely circumnavigate hotly contested zones undetected or throw your hat into the ring and finish what other squads started.

This isn’t the only game-changing concept to enter Verdansk: be on the lookout for Supply Run Contracts, which gives the first team to reach a Buy Station discounts on their next purchase,

and the Spotter Scope, a high-powered re-usable scope that allows you to scout ahead without giving away your position.

    Warzone Starter Pack

Just joined the fight? Starting tomorrow, Warzone players can pick up the Warzone Starter Pack to get a jump-start off the Cargo Plane into Verdansk. For only $4.99 USD SRP (or regional equivalent) on the PS Store, get a major boost to your loadouts, Operator collection, and XP earn rate with this pack that includes the following items:

    • 500 COD Points
    • Legendary Shotgun Blueprint – Amalgam
    • Epic Krueger Skin – Alchemist
    • Epic Calling Card – Breathing Easy // Epic Emblem – Vulture Culture
    • 1 Hour Double Battle Pass XP // 1 Hour Double Weapon XP

A Powerful Sniper Rifle for your Arsenal

    Snipers, meet the Rytec AMR.

This .50 Caliber-chambered beast joins the three other weapons in the Sniper Rifle category and is yours to unlock via in-game challenge. A blueprint variant is also available to get through the Store via the ‘Lost Souls’ bundle.

    Rytec AMR Tips

Here are some tips we have for this new weapon:

    1. This semi-auto rifle is a fantastic long-range tool for taking out targets at a distance, especially within Verdansk. Use the included scope – or use your own long-distance one – to account for bullet drop when using it for engaging with enemies more than 100 meters out.
    1. Want to go quick-scoping? Equip attachments like the Tac Laser to quicken your aim down sight speed to snap on your enemies. Fair warning: these attachments usually expose your position or hurt your aiming stability and recoil control, so play to this weapon’s strengths, not its weaknesses!
    1. Fighting for Survival on Talsik Backlot, the newest map to hit this Sony Exclusive* mode? Do some parkour to hop onto a ladder outside one of the central buildings, and get an incredible 360-degree vista of the surrounding area on the building’s roof. Just be ready to fight enemy helicopters, especially without any cover to use as overhead protection!

New MP Map and Mode: Cheshire Park and Team Defender

Those who have the full Modern Warfare experience have a new locale to deploy to – Cheshire Park – and a new game mode to do battle in – Team Defender.

Located in urban London, England, Cheshire Park is a picturesque garden and conservatory where Operators will battle from door to door or through the central flora-filled area.

As for Team Defender, it returns to Modern Warfare after being introduced to the franchise nearly a decade ago. A major twist on the traditional Capture the Flag formula, flag carriers must hold onto the objective for as long as possible to earn points for their squad.

    More in Store

A fresh shipment of new bundles reached the Store to go along with this update, including a new Operator – Roze – who highlights this new collection of content.

Outside of a new reinforcement for the Allegiance, new bundles to be introduced after this update include the ‘Rogue Operative’ bundle, which gives Syd a new look and Legendary Assault Rifle Juliet blueprint; and the ‘Golden Idol’ bundle, which decks Zane, and the included blueprint in gold-trimmed everything.

If you want to learn more about this update, read the latest Patch Notes on Infinity Ward’s official developer blog.

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Saison Vier Reloaded fügt 200-Spieler Warzone und mehr hinzu

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Saison Vier Reloaded fügt 200-Spieler Warzone und mehr hinzu

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

    • 500 COD Points
    • Legendary Shotgun Blueprint – Amalgam
    • Epic Krueger Skin – Alchemist
    • Epic Calling Card – Breathing Easy // Epic Emblem – Vulture Culture
    • 1 Hour Double Battle Pass XP // 1 Hour Double Weapon XP

  • New skaters revealed for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, pre-orders live

New skaters revealed for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, pre-orders live

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

You already know the legends of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 roster – from Elissa Steamer to the Birdman himself, these extreme athletes defined an era of skateboarding.

Since then, those legends inspired the “next generation” of skaters, who would go on to expand the skateboarding community to a more global and connected scale, dominate the competition medal boards, and find a seat next to the O.G.’s as faces of the sport itself.

With the launch of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, Vicarious Visions are now bringing the past, present, and future of skateboarding together with eight additional skaters joining the lineup of OGs in this epic remaster.

These eight skaters –  Lizzie Armanto, Leo Baker, Leticia Bufoni, Riley Hawk, Nyjah Huston, Tyshawn Jones, Aori Nishimura, and Shane O’Neill – will skate alongside the legendary roster of pros from 1999 and 2000 in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 and represent just a few of the latest shining stars in the sport today.

Just like the original pros, all eight of these skaters come with their own style, stats, and signature tricks to represent the strengths and accomplishments of their young careers.

But who are these fresh faces to the franchise? Here is a breakdown of these eight newcomers to Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2, from their hometowns and skating styles to what they’ve accomplished in their careers thus far:

    Lizzie Armanto

Straight out of Santa Monica, California, this Finnish American dual citizen is a regular-footed park skater who was previously labelled as “Tony Hawk’s protégé.” Armanto, 27, is a barrier breaker in the sport, winning the first ever Skateboard Park X Games Gold Medal in 2013, and appearing as the first female cover athlete on TransWorld SKATEboarding magazine.

    Leo Baker

Leo Baker is a goofy-footed street skater from Covina, California about 22 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles. An X Games Street Gold Medalist, this 28-year-old is one of the LGBTQ+’s most prominent voices within the skateboarding community.

    Leticia Bufoni

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, 27-year-old Leticia Bufoni is a goofy-footed street skater and is an influential female competitor in international sports. She has won Gold Medals in five X Games Street competitions.

    Riley Hawk

Who is Riley Hawk? If you said, “Tony Hawk’s son,” you’d be right, but would also be discounting a talented goofy-footed street skater who is carving his own path after being named Skateboarder Magazine’s Amateur of the Year in 2013. Despite reconstructive surgeries on both his ankles – career-ending for most skaters – he’s still shredding in and out of the skatepark, being the frontman for his own rock band and founding a coffee house record store hybrid.

    Nyjah Huston

Deemed “The X-Factor” by ESPN Magazine as the pro-skater who will change the course of the sport over the next decade, pro street skateboarding phenom Nyjah Huston (25, Laguna Beach, CA) has lived up to the hype, dominating street skating for the past decade. Winning six Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Super Crowns (including 2017-18-19), 12 X Games gold medals and the “Best Male Action Sports Athlete” award at the 2013, 2014 and 2019 ESPY Awards, he remains the face of skateboarding worldwide.

    Tyshawn Jones

Born on the isle of Manhattan and raised in the Bronx as well as New Jersey, 21-year-old Tyshawn Jones was named Thrasher Magazine’s Skater of the Year in 2018. He has more than a few memorable video parts to his name, including the groundbreaking “Blessed” film.

    Aori Nishimura

The youngest newcomer hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Aori Nishimura is an 18-year-old skating prodigy who was the first Japanese-born competitor to win an X Games Street Gold medal. She is one of Japan’s brightest prospects and professionals in skateboarding and is now appearing in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2, whose original versions were out before she was even born!

    Shane O’Neill

Sponsored since age 14, Melbourne, Australia’s very own Shane O’Neill is a 30-year-old pro skateboarder who has earned victories at Tampa Pro and various SLS events around the world. An active skater and gamer, Shane was inspired by the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater games growing up and learned some of his own tricks and combos by playing the games themselves!

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

2018 wurde er vom Thrasher Magazine zum Skater of the Year ernannt.

  • Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launches on PS4 October 2

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time launches on PS4 October 2

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

It’s about time for Crash Bandicoot – the orange spin-jumping and dancing marsupial – to return in a game that’s a true successor to his original trilogy, fittingly named Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, coming this fall to PlayStation 4.

Yes, we’re fur real: Crash is back, and it’s about time that our hero returns in all his platforming glory to PlayStation.

    A look back in time

In 1996, Sony Computer Entertainment – now Sony Interactive Entertainment – published Crash Bandicoot, and the rest is history:

A fan favorite trilogy for the original PlayStation, the three platforming adventures featured Crash Bandicoot; a Doctor Neo Cortex experiment gone wrong. Marsupial mayhem ensued as Crash began an epic journey to save his girlfriend Tawna – and eventually the world – from the mind-controlling Cortex Vortex machine. This brash Bandicoot also faced friends and foes alike, including Neo Cortex, his mentor-in-a-mask Uka Uka, and their ally Doctor Nefarious Tropy, in his legendary platforming antics that have spanned the last 20+ years.

On October 2, this saga continues where Crash Bandicoot: Warped left off: Neo Cortex and Dr. N. Tropy are now free from their penitentiary, and it’s up to Crash, Coco, and friends to go across time and space to stop these three from not only taking over the world, but the entire multiverse.

Reborn and redrawn: Some real characters and amazing environments

Developed by Toys for Bob, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will keep the core of what a Crash Bandicoot experience is – an intense and zany 3D platforming game defined by a certain marsupial’s brash attitude.

It all began with the development team dusting off the old consoles to play the original Crash Bandicoot classics, comparing them to the recent remasters, interacting with hardcore fans within the studio, and gaining insight from the Crash community at large.

Along with keeping that nostalgic feel, Toys for Bob is also tailoring the game for past, present, and new Crash fans alike through a reimagined and updated art style, new gameplay mechanics, and the ability to switch between Modern and Retro modes (one mode tailored to those seeking that old school platforming vibe, while the other is a little more forgiving, but no less difficult to master).

You can see this reflected in the game’s reveal trailer and screenshots. Visually, Toys for Bob is introducing a fresh take on Crash, his friends, his enemies, and the landscapes around them with a new art style. While staying true to the franchise’s zany spirit, expect to see new worlds, lush vistas, and an absurd variety of enemies and hazards in a style and visual fidelity fit for the modern gaming experience.

Expect to see larger landscapes this time, too. There are points along your platforming paths that you can spot subsequent levels within the one you’re currently navigating. The environments are alive with a wacky and wonky sense of motion and energy everywhere you care to look. With such vibrancy on display, expect a whole new set of platforming tricks like wall running, rail grinding, and rope swinging to help you visit every nook, cranny, and secret spot. The result is a love letter to Crash fans by Crash fans at developer Toys for Bob.

Keeping your head in the game: Quantum Masks

Crash and Coco are still jumping, spinning, and wumping around as they are known for, but don’t think they’ve sat around for the past two decades with nary a new trick up their (lack of) sleeves!

New to Crash Bandicoot 4 are the Quantum Masks: four powerful guardians of space and time that give our heroes the power to bend the rules of reality and conquer dangerous obstacles in exciting new ways.

Out of these four masks, two are fully introduced within the launch trailer, but you may remember one from PlayStation’s It’s Time to Play video. Yes, the one back in November 2019.

Remember the mysterious mask above Coco during that kart racing scene? That was Kupuna-Wa (the Time Mask), who slows down time to allow for even more precise movements. The other mask featured in the launch trailer – Ika Ika (the Gravity Mask) – will let Crash and Coco platform upside down despite the regular laws of physics! Developer Toys for Bob are set to sprinkle these (and two additional floating face friends) along the course of dozens of levels. This results in a variety of new powers and abilities for Crash, allowing for a wider variety of challenges and difficulties as the game progresses.

Pre-orders live now – Totally Tubular Skins!

Purchasing the game digitally at PS Store will grant you the Totally Tubular Skins (available at launch), which puts Crash and Coco into some digs that show off their radical roots.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will be available for the suggested retail price in the U.S. of $59.99 on October 2, 2020.

  • Die vierte Saison von Modern Warfare hält exklusive PlayStation-Inhalte für Modern Warfare und Warzone

Die vierte Saison von Modern Warfare hält exklusive PlayStation-Inhalte für Modern Warfare und Warzone

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Season 4

Tipps für das Überleben im Battle Royale-Modus

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Season 4

    Tipps für Zhokov Scrapyard

  • Modern Warfare Season Four is live. Here’s what you need to know

Modern Warfare Season Four is live. Here’s what you need to know

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Captain Price has arrived in Special Ops, Multiplayer, and Warzone in the Season Four Battle Pass to help fight against the opposition in an ongoing battle in Verdansk.

Season Four of Modern Warfare including Warzone features in-match updates in Warzone and more, new Multiplayer maps, new modes of play, and a 100 Tiers of content in this Season’s new Battle Pass system.

Introducing Jailbreak, Fire Sale, and Supply Chopper to Warzone

Get more content in Warzone this season like new blueprints in the loot pool, new limited time modes, and new in-match mechanics.

During a Warzone Battle Royale match, you may encounter some new twists that provide unique opportunities to help your team to survive to the end of the match. Here’s an overview and tips on the three in-match Battle Royale updates in Season Four.

    • Jailbreak – When a Jailbreak happens, all eliminated players (spectators and those in the Gulag) are redeployed back into the match.
    • Fire Sale – Items at Buy Stations are discounted up to 80% off and redeploying a teammate is Free for sixty seconds. Loadout Drops are not discounted.
    • Supply Chopper – A non-lethal helicopter with a high amount of health will appear in the sky. Take it down using ample ammo and rockets, if you have them, to be rewarded with a LOT of premium loot.

    Tips for Battle Royale Survival

    1. Jailbreaks can redeploy your squad even after you have all been eliminated. Consider sticking around until just before the Gulag closes to see if you’ll have a chance to re-enter the fight.
    2. Taking down a Supply Chopper can be a lengthy process, especially if you don’t have a launcher. Consider positioning some of the squad members as lookouts to ensure you don’t get taken out by a rival while you’re aiming at the skies.
    3.  A Fire Sale just may be too good to be true. If you’re the only squad member still alive in a contested area, rushing toward a Buy Station during a Fire Sale might result in a total squad wipe. Consider the risks and the rewards before you make your final decision.

Note that Jailbreaks, Supply Choppers, and Fire Sales, only occur during some Battle Royale matches. Many matches will not have a Jailbreak, Supply Chopper, or Fire Sale.

Plus, free-to-play Warzone users can experience another Multiplayer Free Access Weekend on June 12 at 10 AM PT to June 15 at 10AM PT. It will include the latest 6v6 Multiplayer Maps Zhokov Scrapyard and Hardhat, as well as a few other fan-favorites. In addition, there will also be a Gunfight playlist during the Free Access Weekend featuring seven maps primed for fun, tactical and tension-filled engagements.

    More Multiplayer Experiences

Season Four serves up three new Multiplayer maps – Zhokov Scrapyard (Standard Multiplayer), Promenade (Ground War), and Trench (Gunfight).

Zhokov Scrapyard, first seen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, arrives on launch day primed for fresh combat and multiple engagements on this extremely versatile map. Medium in size, and designed for a variety of playstyles, this abandoned field littered with airplane parts will be a familiar hunting ground for Warzone players. Bring your Warzone tactics to Multiplayer and adjust your strategy as needed to excel in deathmatch and objective game modes. Here are three tips to help you best the enemy in Scrapyard:

    Tips for Scrapyard

    1. Some of the hulls of the planes in Scrapyard can be penetrated with the help of the FMJ attachment. Consider equipping it on your weapon of choice to take down enemies lurking inside the planes.
    2. There are plenty of opportunities for close quarters combat in this tightly spaced map. When in doubt, equip the Breacher Device attachment which enables melee kills for any enemies that take you by surprise.
    3. The center of Scrapyard where the planes lay waste can be a potential minefield – Proximity Mine field. Consider adding the Spotter perk to your loadout to see any enemy equipment through walls and hack them.
Modern Warfare Season Four is live. Here’s what you need to know

Captain Price and the Season Four Battle Pass System

Purchase the Battle Pass to get instant access to Captain Price, a Legendary Operator and the newest Coalition member in Modern Warfare including Warzone. Preview the goods of the entire Battle Pass system by heading to the tab in-game to see what’s available to unlock. All players can earn two FREE weapons, just by playing – the Fennec SMG and the CR-56 AMAX assault rifle.

Fennec (Tier 15) – One of the fastest firing SMGs in the Modern Warfare armory, the Fennec is fairly agile with decent control. To compensate for its smaller magazine size, bring the Munitions Box with you whenever you take the Fennec into battle.

CR-56 AMAX (Tier 31) – A well balanced assault rifle that deals lethal damage, the CR-56 AMAX has a long list of attachments that will have you tinkering in Gunsmith to find your perfect configuration. Kit the weapon out for higher accuracy, longer range, or more mobility to test its versatility in Multiplayer, Special Ops, and Warzone.

The blueprint includes a unique weapon perk – Frangible Disabling. This effect enables your bullets to slow enemy movement and briefly disable their tactical sprint when shooting at their legs. Use this to your advantage to rush enemies who will be slower to react when they are attempting to disengage and heal up from a fight. Players can earn this blueprint by going to the Barracks tab in-game and completing the Aristocratic Champion mission.

Get Ready to Grind into Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Ready to shred again? The original birdman Tony Hawk and Vicarious Visions, the studio behind the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, have come together to bring back Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2, radically remastered for PlayStation 4. Dropping in this September 4, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 is all about bringing back the original levels, skaters, tricks, modes, and songs from the iconic soundtrack, as well as amping up the experience with new ways to play including online multiplayer.

    Hawk Heritage

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

As you can see from the comparison screenshots, there have been an incredible number of improvements to the remastered game. Released on the original PlayStation back in August 1999, the series’ first title helped lead the way in the gaming industry’s shift to 3D gameplay. This was thanks to Sony’s advancements in geometry technology with PlayStation, and the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater set the standard for the genre.

“It was incredible to play the original games on PlayStation back in 1999 and to see the overwhelming response from the PlayStation community, so I’m excited to bring the game back to all the hardcore THPS fans on PlayStation again this year.” said the legend himself, Tony Hawk. But what’s in store for this ground-breaking remaster?

    Here’s the 411 on 1 and 2:

    Same Tony, New Tricks

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 will feature the full original roster of pro skaters from the turn of the 21st century. That includes Steve Caballero, Geoff Rowley, Bucky Lasek, Elissa Steamer, Kareem Campbell, Andrew Reynolds, Bob Burnquist, Eric Koston, Rodney Mullen, Jamie Thomas, Rune Glifberg, Chad Muska… and of course, Tony Hawk.

These skaters all come with their own Special Moves – from Geoff Rowley’s Darkside Grind to Tony Hawk’s legendary 900 – and have learned a few new tricks over the past two decades, including the Revert, Lip Tricks, and the Wall Plant, allowing you to pull off incredible combos like never before.

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

The remaster will also feature all the original levels from the first two games in the franchise, from the Warehouse to The Bullring. Those levels can be played solo with goals old and new, with a buddy for local co-op, or online with original multiplayer game modes. All of this will be presented in stunning 4K resolution* with updated and enhanced graphics, running at a frame rate crisper than a perfect 50-50 grind: 60 FPS.

Let’s not forget the tunes, either: Remember the iconic soundtrack of the original game, made possible thanks to the PlayStation’s shift to high-fidelity CD audio? Many of the unforgettable songs from the original games are back to help amp you up while you go for that Sick Score.

    Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park Return, Revamped

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

Rather carve up your own park with a skater you created? Create-A-Skater and Create-A-Park are back; the latter featuring a robust editing suite, allowing you to create a spectacular level of customization. Want to make the skate park of your wildest imagination? It’s all there waiting for you to build, and then share online with friends.

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 and 2

After you create a park, why not create yourself – or a friend… or one gnarly looking poser – in Create-A-Skater? With plenty of customization options, including some that feature iconic skating and street brands, you’ll be able to express a crazy amount of creativity just in your custom skater alone.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 will be available worldwide for the suggested retail price in the U.S. of $39.99. A digital deluxe version that includes unique content and gear will be available for the suggested retail price in the U.S. of $49.99. Digital pre-orders coming soon to PlayStation Store.

    Experience New Multiplayer Battlegrounds

Season Three of Modern Warfare gives players three 6v6 Multiplayer maps – Talsik Backlot, reimagined from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s Backlot, Hovec Sawmill, a rural battlefield, and Aniyah Incursion, a tightened, tactical version of Aniyah Palace.

    Tips for Hovec Sawmill

    1.     Look Around… and Up. The rooftops of Hovec Sawmill may be littered with enemies hoping to pick off unsuspecting targets. Keep your eyes peeled and look for a glint to determine if a sniper has you in their sights.

    2.     Silent and Deadly. Because the rolling river in Hovec Sawmill gives off a distinct sound, consider using the Dead Silence Field Upgrade, as crossing over the river may give away your position.

    3.     Battle with Range. Mid to long range sightlines both find a home on Hovec Sawmill, consider a weapon with a hybrid scope to ensure you find your target at any distance.

  • Play Call of Duty: Warzone Free Starting March 10

Play Call of Duty: Warzone Free Starting March 10

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Warzone will be live on March 10 and free for all players. An epic new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare experience, Warzone takes place across the expansive and dense city of Verdansk. Drop into this sprawling city as over 100 players entangle themselves in an intense battle with a tactical path to victory.

    A Massive Battleground

Warzone takes place across the city of Verdansk which may be a somewhat familiar battleground for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players. This dense and massive map features more than 300 points of interests and a variety of landscapes for different types of engagement.

A mix of areas including the cityscape of downtown Verdansk complete with tall buildings, the more rural Krovnik Farmland, and urban areas with many interiors prime for looting, decorate this expansive map. Players can explore Verdansk on five different vehicles – ATVs, Tactical Rovers, SUVs, Cargo Trucks, or Helicopters. Ride with your squad to your next destination, take out a rival, or drive to escape the closing circle.

More than Battle Royale; Introducing Plunder

While the battle will vary every time you drop in, Warzone will have two game modes at launch that both require distinct strategies. Battle Royale pits your trio against all other squads in a quest to be the last team standing. The deadly gas in the closing circle tightens the combat while heightening the intensity of the match.

In Plunder, a respawn mode, players race to collect the most Cash which can be found across the map or gained by eliminating opponents or completing contracts, objective based tasks that reward Cash and other loot. Plunder relies on exploring the map to find Cash and other useful items, like Killstreaks, strategizing to complete contracts, and being ready to take down or defend against other opponents.

    Additional Information

On launch day of Warzone, we will bring more details including a deeper dive on Battle Royale and Plunder, plus strategies and tips to master both modes.

In celebration of launch day, Playstation Plus users will be able to get the exclusive* and free Call of Duty: Warzone Combat Pack at Playstation Store. More information to come with launch.

Warzone is live on March 10 starting at 8am PDT for owners of the full version of Modern Warfare and available at 12pm PDT to download free, for all players.

  • Modern Warfare Season Two Starts Tomorrow, Including New PS4-Exclusive Content

Modern Warfare Season Two Starts Tomorrow, Including New PS4-Exclusive Content

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

The exciting launch of Season Two for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is just around the corner! We are thrilled to share details on the return of the Rust Multiplayer map, the emergence of Ghost into the fray, as well as a preview of the rest of Modern Warfare Season Two.

Plus, PlayStation 4 players can experience the latest Special Ops Survival map — Azhir Cave — and take to the battlefield with an exclusive* Weapon Blueprint.

    Read on for more!

    Season Two Multiplayer Maps

Season Two will launch two maps on February 11 – Rust and Atlas Superstore. Veteran Call of Duty players may remember Rust, a desert oil yard battleground with fast-paced combat. Atlas Superstore is an all-new map that takes place in a warehouse store where players must battle through the aisles, over toppled boxes, and other wrecked merchandise.

    Atlas Superstore

A warehouse-style supermarket that gave Verdansk citizens everything from lumber and fresh fruit to oversized stuffed bears, Atlas Superstore is now the ransacked base for Al-Qatala forces. Among the remains of whatever goods this market sold are crates and canisters of highly dangerous materials for war, with natural light peering in from the roof of this exposed structure. The market itself isn’t the only playable area; be prepared to take action into the employee-only rooms and out into the side shipping and receiving entrances.

5 Tips for Mastering Atlas Superstore

    1. Atlas Superstore has a mix of long corridors – also known as the shopping aisles – and cramped rooms, making any loadout viable on this map. Whatever you decide to use, keep in mind its strengths and weaknesses as you weave through the massive market.
    2. Because the shelves are not fully stocked, it is possible to see your enemies browsing the aisles next to you. Be on guard while travelling through these spaces, lest your rival gets a free hit or two on you.
    3. These warehouse shelves are also enough to support an Operator or a few, which allows for some unique ways to travel across the map. Learn the shortcuts and high ground spots around Atlas Superstore, and you might just become a master of the market.
    4. Some employee areas, namely the ones accessible from either team spawn, have prime views over the market down below. Even if you have to check out of the main combat zone for a while, taking overwatch from one of these points could help your team push an objective or clean up the aisles in general.
    5. Atlas Superstore is an exposed structure, with multiple points in the roof opened up to allow natural light and air into the massive warehouse. In terms of how this applies to combat, it is possible to pilot Killstreaks through these gaps, and it is absolutely necessary to do so in order for them to be most effective.

    Rust

The classic map returns from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! A small map for fast-paced combat, Rust brings the battle to an oil yard in the middle of the desert. The site of the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign mission, “Endgame”, may be just that for players who don’t learn the tricks to master this arid field of play. Utilize the environment for cover and grab the high ground and low ground to take advantage of your enemies. Rust will also be playable as a Gunfight map!

Before, you take to Rust we’ve compiled a list of tips to master the oil yard amid a contested firefight:

    5 Tips for Mastering Rust

    1. Using the high ground is one strategy for Rust but mind the path and work with your teammates to provide cover before taking the ladder. Consider equipping a pistol as a secondary, so even when you are climbing you still have an offensive weapon if you need it.
    2. Rust doesn’t just feature a high ground, but a low ground as well. Find the hidden pathways underneath parts of the tower and other areas of the map to pop-up and surprise enemies.
    3. Consider equipping Trophy System as your Field Upgrade to protect you and your teammates from the inevitable hail of lethal and tactical equipment that occurs on smaller maps.
    4. For perks, consider Quick Fix and Shrapnel. Quick Fix increases your health regen rate when you get kills or capture and hold objectives. The fast-paced nature of Rust will give you access to multiple enemies, and with the constant action have a little extra oomph in your health regeneration never hurts. Shrapnel will give you an extra lethal which can help you damage or eliminate opponents that are in tight clusters.
    5. Be wary of using Tactical Sprint, because when you do you won’t have access to your weapon. While the extra boost of speed can be advantageous, really consider if it’s worth the risk before taking the sprint.

    More Maps for Season Two

Alongside Rust and Atlas Superstore, Modern Warfare players will get additional maps for Ground War and Gunfight modes.

In Ground War, players can find Zhokov Boneyard — a large sprawling airplane junkyard with room to capture objectives, advance your team’s territory, and terrain for vehicle warfare. For Gunfight, experience Bazaar, a small section from the streets of Urzikstan-turned-battleground that’s a tense and tactical battle.

Additional Content in Season Two for All

Players will have more ranks to climb to advance their Season rank while past ribbons will be memorialized. New ways to earn XP include new Trials, ribbons, challenges, and missions for Multiplayer and Special Ops. Use XP tokens and events to maximize your progression on the path to tackling all the new challenges of Season Two.

Sony Exclusive* Modern Warfare Season Two Content

Outlast waves of enemies on a new Special Ops Survival map and master challenges to earn an exclusive* Weapon Blueprint.

    Azhir Cave (Survival)

Enter the desert wasteland of Azhir Cave to battle waves of opponents. The layout of Azhir Cave gives players different ways to experience the match and fight for Survival. Take to the cave to smoke out enemies, set traps, and block and control entry points. Or, players can find the high ground on the southwest of the map near the Coalition spawn in Multiplayer and try and funnel enemies to the valley below for easier eliminations. Discover the new ways to experience Azhir Cave while battling in Survival.

    Weapon Blueprint: Lucky Strike

A Legendary LMG Blueprint can be earned through an exclusive mission. Similar to Season One’s Jack Frosty Blueprint, navigate to the Missions tab in Barracks and activate the Lucky Strike mission. Complete each step of a multi-step challenges to earn XP along the way to adding the Lucky Strike to your arsenal.

There you have it! We hope you enjoy Season Two. Stay frosty. Season Two of Modern Warfare launches on February 11.

  • Modern Warfare Out Friday, 10 Tips for Multiplayer

Modern Warfare Out Friday, 10 Tips for Multiplayer

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

launches imminently, and if you’re like us, you’re ready to spend the entire opening weekend playing this new entry to the Call of Duty franchise.

Whether you participated in Modern Warfare’s Multiplayer Alpha and Beta periods, or are jumping into the game for the first time, there is always room for improvement as a Tier One Operator. We’ve studied this game to give you as much intel as possible so that you have the tools to become a Modern Warfare master.

We’ve summarized what we’ve learned while playing the game into a handy top-10 list that anyone – from a recruit to a veteran – can learn from.

Operators, these are your Top-10 Tips for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer:

    10. Play the Campaign and Special Ops. While we know a good portion of players just enjoy Multiplayer, there is a lot to be learned about Modern Warfare through its Campaign and Special Ops modes. Exploring these modes could give you a bit more practice with the game’s basic mechanics against A.I. opponents, whose difficulty can be adjusted to offer a challenge for any skill level.

    9. Open up those Options. Default settings are a great starting point for any newcomer, yet it’s not the end-all be-all for how the game should be played. Whether it’s trying out new sensitivity settings and button layouts or fine-tuning visual options to your comfort level, the biggest step towards improving your game could be the changes you make before dropping into battle.

    8. Know your Loadout. A shotgun may not be the best weapon for long-range sharpshooting and hitting a target with a sniper rifle without aiming down sights can be difficult. Even if tensions are high in battle, always keep in mind the strengths and weaknesses of your loadout.

    7. Think like a Tier One Operator. The best players in Modern Warfare know the value of staying alive and taking calculated risks. Reckless deaths may lead to the enemy gaining the upper hand, so it may be wise to take a tactical approach and consider all options before diving headfirst into combat.

    6. If there is an objective, consider playing around it. When playing objective-based game modes, you’re more likely to get into engagements and win games by focusing on the objective at hand. Plus, the potential XP gained for capturing objectives and the multiple challenges revolving around winning games, make it worth considering playing the objective.

    5. Take the drive to Enlisted Rank 55. When you first start Multiplayer, you will be limited to default loadouts, a few Killstreaks, and two Field Upgrades. However, as you play the game and gain experience for both your Operator and weapons, you’ll be able to further customize loadouts and more to your playstyle. Keep on ranking up until you have the entire arsenal at your disposal at Enlisted Rank 55.

    4. Experimentation could equal success. Don’t be afraid to try out a new weapon, Killstreak, Field Upgrade, or even an attachment. Who knows? Coming out of your comfort zone could help you get a step closer to upping your game and finding an epic win streak.

    3. Communication is key. Tier One Operators is a plural term. The best in the business probably rely on their squadmates to execute the mission at hand. Whether you dive into Multiplayer with friends or make some new ones in the lobby, clear, effective communication can go a long way in battle.

    2. Intel is power, both in-game and out. Having what we call a high “COD IQ” – knowledge of the game and its mechanics – can help in online matches against fellow community members. Be sure to check the Activision Games Blog often for a variety of guides – from basic movement tips to map and mode specific tactics – that will help up your COD IQ.

    1. Our most important tip, as always on our blog, is to have fun! It’s only a game, after all. Party up with friends, don’t sweat the tough losses, and just play!

We’ll see you online, and until then, stay frosty.

  • A Closer Look at Modern Warfare’s Co-op Special Ops Mode

A Closer Look at Modern Warfare’s Co-op Special Ops Mode

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Special Ops marks the return of one of the series’ most-beloved game modes. In Modern Warfare, the cooperative-focused mode is reimagined as a collection of expansive, interconnected Operations against a new threat stemming from the Eastern Hemisphere.

In Special Ops, players will assemble into strike teams of four to execute multi-phased objectives, which together will advance the overarching story of Modern Warfare.

Here’s a quick tour of what Special Ops has to offer:

    Operations

Special Ops includes different experiences that take place on a wide variety of maps. The largest and most involved multi-stage experiences are called Operations. These four-player, matchmaking-supported activities unfold around the city of Verdansk, and pit players with destroying the logistics of the Al-Qatala army.

There are plenty of ways to play. In some Operations a stealthy approach may be prudent, but hopping into a tank, helicopter, or ATV opens up tactical options. The choice will always be yours, but the enemy will respond to your tactics, meaning the outcome of any battle can change.

In Operations, you’ll be able to carry over all the Operators, Loadouts, and Progress made in Multiplayer.

Special Ops at launch will include four multi-stage Operations, with more scheduled to release post-launch.

    Missions

Missions serve as a focused complement to the more complex Operations, and you can play solo or with up to four players. Missions will test your proficiency with specific weapons, killstreaks, and other tools, and are designed to be extremely replayable. In Missions you’re able to achieve a 1, 2, or 3-star ranking based on your performance.

    Survival Mode

Unrelated to the Special Ops Operations and Missions is an additional wave-based horde mode known as Special Ops Survival. This is an exclusive,* additional cooperative mode for PS4 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare players that pits you and up to three of your friends against enemy forces in intense cooperative combat on one of three Multiplayer maps. In Special Ops Survival Mode, you will fight off waves of increasingly difficult and determined combatants in a variety of experiences.

Special Ops Survival Mode is exclusive to PS4 until Oct. 1, 2020.

Completing Special Ops content will unlock rewards including new items and equipment that can be utilized in both Multiplayer and Special Ops Modes.

Assemble your squad and report in on October 25th. We’ll see you there, soldier.

*Play Special Ops Survival Mode First on PS4. Timed Exclusive content until Oct. 1, 2020.

No need to wait until Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches this fall to try the intense new Gunfight Mode. PlayStation 4 users can deploy into a free Alpha for the 2v2 mode from August 23 to 25. Anyone with a PS4 and an internet connection can access the Alpha and play (no PS Plus membership required). The Alpha includes five close-quarters maps, including two never-before-played locales: Docks and Speedball.

Prepare yourself with a Gunfight Mode overview and tips. We competed in several heated matches during a recent Modern Warfare hands-on event and walked away with helpful tactics.

    Gunfight Mode Overview
Unlike Modern Warfare’s core Multiplayer experience – which is all about insanely deep weapon customization – Gunfight Mode is about adapting to unpredictable loadouts in intimate 2v2 maps. It’s a refreshing, intense contrast that enriches the overall package.

The goal is simple: First team to win five rounds secures victory. The catch is each team begins a given round with a “random” weapon loadout. Infinity Ward has curated a wide range of loadouts, from pistol and rocket launcher combos to scoped shotguns. You never know what you’re going to get, so quick thinking and fast reflexes are rewarded. The opposing team starts with the same loadout, which makes predicting enemy strategies crucial.

Experienced Call of Duty players will pick up the nuances of combat quickly. Even so, here are some tips to get you started:

    • Study Your Loadout – Your primary weapon is obvious, but look deeper to your sidearm, grenade, and gear. Sometimes your pistol will offer better range that the shotgun you spawned with. Don’t mistake your smoke grenade for a flash bang in the heat of the moment. Mind the details!
    • Listen Carefully – Modern Warfare’s multiplayer removes the mini–map by default. Keep your ears peeled for the crunch of enemy footsteps and other positional cues. Keep your head on a swivel. Headphones make a big difference, too.
    • Pulling Overtime – An Overtime Flag appears if opposing players are still standing after 40 seconds. First team to secure the central flag wins the round.
    • Be Unpredictable – Both teams start with sniper rifles and pistols? Take advantage of your enemies’ tunnel vision by storming the map, chucking a grenade, and brandishing that sidearm. Wildcard strategies make you harder to predict.
    • Move Together – Generally goes without saying, but teams that move together live longer. This forces your enemies to think a second longer before engaging. Also, if you die via a surprise attack, your surviving ally has a chance to avenge your death and with the round.
    • Embrace Discovery – Gunfight Mode is a brilliant way to get trigger time with a diverse set of weapons. Who knows – maybe the random loadouts will lead you to fall in love with a new approach to combat to take into Team Deathmatch and other Multiplayer modes.

Play the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Gunfight mode Alpha on PS4 from August 23 to 25, exclusively on PS4. The full game arrives October 25.

  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare: 22 Things You Need to Know About Multiplayer

Call of Duty Modern Warfare: 22 Things You Need to Know About Multiplayer

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is coming, and we played it! There’s a lot to take in — read on to discover what’s in store for the genre-defining Multiplayer mode when it lands on October 25.

Cross-platform play means you can play against PS4, PC, and Xbox One players.

At its unveil event, Infinity Ward confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will support cross-play between PC and console players — a first for the series. How is the studio balancing mouse-and-keyboard users with controller users? “One of the main ways is that we are planning on matchmaking based on peripheral,” Design Director Joe Cecot said. “We’re also supporting different peripherals, so if you want to plug a keyboard [and mouse] into your PS4, you can.”

    Season Pass is no more.

Instead, an ongoing array of free downloadable maps and content will release post launch. “We just revealed, so it’s a little early to talk post-launch, but we can say that it will be a regular distribution of content,” Cecot said. “We have a very full post-launch schedule, because we want players to jump into our game and we want to keep them really busy with new content for a long time.”

    Weapon customization is extensive.

Most Call of Duty games let you swap between a handful of weapon mods. But Modern Warfare’s “Gunsmith” weapon customization is extensive — with 30 to 60 mods available for most weapons. It’s so extensive, that it required an entire mode called “Gunsmith.”

Progression and gameplay are unified across all three main modes.

Gear you unlock and equip in MP will extend over to the co-op Spec Ops experience and vice-versa. You’ll unlock some gear for MP as you play through the SP experience too, and weapons and mods will feel consistent and unified across all three modes.

    Night-vision goggles (NVGs) are a game changer…

In most games, NVGs paint the screen bright green and highlight threats. Not so in COD: MW. Equip the NVGs on dark maps to transform the game into an otherworldly battlefield where the usual rules may no longer apply. On maps that support NVG, every player will be able to equip them by holding down on the d-pad.

…and “laser discipline” will finally enter the 2019 zeitgeist.

Since entering ADS triggers your weapon’s laser attachment, you need to be careful when fighting in an NVG-compatible map — NVG-wearing enemies can easily track your position.

    2v2 Gunfight is a riot.

This white-knuckle atom-smasher might just steal the show. This contest is fought on small “Flash Maps,” and equips all four players with the same randomly selected weapon loadout to keep things fair and square. The resulting cat-and-mouse brawls are real nail biters with a pacing somewhat similar to fighting games.

    There are three map sizes.

“Flash Maps” are designed for close-quarters 2v2 Gunfight matches, while “Tactical Maps” support more traditional 6v6 and 10v10 player counts. “Battle Maps” are reserved for the largest-scale gameplay. We played it via 20v20 matches, but the team said they’ll support more than 100 players!

    Multiplayer supports more varied playstyles.

From team support to run-and-gun, sniping, camping and more, IW is seeking to broaden the number of viable play styles with Modern Warfare. This is partly thanks to a greatly expanded array of gear.

Map traversal is more fluid and varied.

Perhaps moreso than any prior Call of Duty game, COD: Modern Warfare is all about giving players tactical options. That’s reflected in the new map layouts, which offer more opportunities to traverse through sneaky paths and backdoors to catch foes unaware. If prior Call of Duty maps were a racetrack, COD: Modern Warfare is more like a rollercoaster.

    Operators are cosmetic only.

You can select from an array of cool-looking Operators to represent yourself in online matches, but the benefits are purely aesthetic.

Map design took inspiration from classic DM games.

Infinity Ward took some inspiration from classic deathmatch games when developing COD: Modern Warfare. More “power positions” — towers and other elevated areas — are scattered throughout the maps. These give you an objective to move for and result in more interesting, varied firefights that flow around the map.

    It uses a new engine.

The game is a looker, pumping out huge, realistic-looking maps loaded with eye-catching special effects, particularly the smoke and fog that actually accumulates after a blistering gunfight.

Expect the Realistic mode to make some noise.

This new optional setting strips away almost all onscreen HUD elements — even the classic hitmarker and kill notifications. It’s not for everyone, but we tried it out on a nighttime map equipped with NVGs and the results were intense, bordering on survival-horror.

“Mounting” gives limited cover to frontline assault players.

When standing next to a corner or over a ledge, you’ll see an onscreen prompt to press R3, which allows you to hunker down a bit and reduce your profile. When mounting a corner, you can even use the right stick to peek out a bit to pick new targets from (relative) safety.

Doors are more interesting than you think.

I know… doors. But Infinity Ward spent a lot of time spicing up these pedestrian portals. You can open doors in multiple ways — running or sliding into them, carefully easing them open, or blowing them open with explosives — and each way has a tactical benefit. They’re also useful as auditory cues, helping you track enemy movement through the level.

“Tactical Sprint” provides a short speed boost.

Also called the “super sprint,” this new maneuver allows you to cover ground faster, but with a greater delay to Aim Down Sights (ADS) if you encounter a hostile. Trigger it by double-clicking L3. Also, your sprint meter isn’t infinite, though Perks can extend it.

    The audio design is cutting-edge.

Using sophisticated new audio processing techniques unknown to me (I caught a reference of “raytracing”), Modern Warfare is putting a big emphasis on pushing immersive audio. Weapon fire snarls with realistic reverberations, the doppler effect is in full effect, and…

    Killstreaks are back.

    Need I say more?

Excessive weapon mods will slow your ADS.

Each weapon supports up to five mods, including weapon-specific Perks, so it’s tempting to max out your M4 and head to battle. Not so fast: overload your gun and the increased weight will greatly slow your ADS speed, and sometimes even your movement speed, so you’ll lose out to faster-drawing opponents. Be smart and equip only what you really need!

The open beta will be big.

    Literally.

Yes, the watch hands show the real time.

    They really do. We checked.

  • Hands-on with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Intense, Gripping Multiplayer

Hands-on with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Intense, Gripping Multiplayer

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Names are loaded with meaning, and Activision said a lot with “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.” The name invokes Infinity Ward’s sublime Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which ranks among the most influential FPSs of all time.

Activision proved during a recent hands-on event that has more in common with that seminal game than just a name. It aims to similarly move the genre forward with bone-crunching audio and visuals, while doubling down on the weapon and loadout customization that immortalized Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Activision kicked off the event stating their mission — a unified experience for all Modern Warfare players. Season Pass is gone, and instead players will receive a mix of post-launch maps and other content for free. Crossplay widens the base by allowing console players to match up with PC players (with options to customize whether or not you face off with mouse-and-keyboard players).

The promise for a cohesive and intense Modern Warfare experience is enticing, but the proof is in Infinity Ward’s striking gameplay.

    Your Loadout Defines Your Playstyle

Modern Warfare is a teeth-rattling return to the core gameplay that made COD4: MW legendary. The most impactful change is that now you can mold your weapon and overall loadout to your playstyle preference in their Gunsmith system.

Operators are cosmetic options with eye-catching skins and colorful voiceover (become a doomsday prepper or scrappy resistance fighter), but you won’t be harnessing special abilities with cooldowns. Instead, you’ll burrow into gunsmithing options that let you modify your firearms to an outlandish degree.

Want a shotgun with a sniper rifle scope or a laser-sighted LMG with a three-round burst? Go for it. Swapping between 30 to 60 muzzles, sights, lasers, Perks (quick reload for me!), and more per weapon is almost overwhelming at first, but the stats menu makes trade-offs crystal clear. Maybe that weighty fifth attachment isn’t worth the hit to your mobility, after all.

Customization expands far beyond guns. Killstreaks return with a cathartic vengeance. Favorites like the UAV, Care Package, and tide-turning Juggernaut return. Rack up eight consecutive kills to unlock new tools like the Infantry Assault Vehicle – a light tank that can be piloted by one player while another unleashes the .50 cal on top. Potent field upgrades like stopping-power rounds and a recon drone to spot enemies are available after enough time elapses in a match.

Player Perks also enable useful passive benefits like tracking the steps of a nearby enemy or retaining credit towards a Killstreak even after death. The breadth of options speak to Infinity Ward’s aim to cater to any Call of Duty playstyle, be it sniping, run ‘n’ gunning, team support, or even camping.

    A New Level of Warfare

Infinity Ward’s obsession with impactful, authentic gameplay drops players onto the battlefield. The Call of Duty series is already known for its stellar production value, yet Modern Warfare improves upon FPS audio and animation in stunning new ways.

The minimap is no longer present by default, tucked away to be earned through Killstreak rewards. Instead, a minimal compass at the top of the screen tips off enemy locations. My eyes remained transfixed on the unfolding action, no longer tempted to scan the minimap every other second. My ears also became more active to gather more info on enemy positions, and were treated by the new levels of gut-punching audio fidelity. Zeroing in on rifle blasts and crunching footsteps make locating enemies feel more earned and satisfying.

Animation improvements also pull players in deeper. More believable recoil makes shotgun blasts feel forceful enough to bruise your shoulder. Dropped enemies toss their weapons aside as they fall, adding satisfying visual flair.

    Robust Multiplayer Mode Variety

Activision gave us hands on with a handful of modes from Modern Warfare, ranging from time-tested Team Deathmatches to close-quarters brawls. The highlights:

    • 2v2 Gunfight: One of Modern Warfare’s newest and most addictive modes is also the simplest concept revealed for Multiplayer so far. In Gunfight, teams of two face off in short, intense rounds with cycling weapon loadouts on condensed maps. Wasn’t expecting to battle with just a scoped .50 pistol and a flashbang? Surprise! The result is an exciting, unpredictable, and intimate competitive mode.
    • 6v6 Cyber Attack: A round-based mode where each player has one spawn. Win by planting an EMP device near the enemy’s data center to win the match. The high-stakes objective and emphasis on teamwork makes each exhilarating round pass by lightning fast.
    • 10v10 Headquarters: A king of the hill-style mode where opposing teams track down HQs that populate the map, holding them down to earn points for victory. The constant journey across the map provides an intoxicating mix of wide-open firefights and close-quarter HQ defense brawls. Respawns are disabled for the team defending captured HQs, which makes for intense action when combined with the freshly removed minimap.
    • 20v20 Domination: The biggest match size for Modern Warfare revealed so far features 40 total players. The team confirmed that they are aiming to support over 100 players in this large-scale mode. We played on the sprawling Aniyah Palace – a ruined historical building surrounded by maze-like walls and wide-open spaces. Juggling five control points with teammates makes for a frantic scramble toward victory. Modern Warfare’s Tactical Sprint option – which grants an extra burst of speed while making you especially vulnerable – comes in handy here.

Modern Warfare’s multiplayer showing demonstrates that Infinity Ward aims to elevate the series’ successful core formula to new heights. This offering alone is enough to justify counting the days until it launches on PS4 October 25, and we haven’t even played single-player or Spec Ops yet.

Thankfully fans can get their hands dirty with weapon loadouts and dive into the Multiplayer Beta when it launches first on PS4 September 12.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Operation Apocalypse Z Arrives on PS4 July 9

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Operation Apocalypse Z Arrives on PS4 July 9

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Operation Apocalypse Z is upon us, with hordes of ravenous undead across all the game modes as the latest season of content arrives for fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4! Expect new weapons to unlock and master, a return to Treyarch’s incredible Aether story in a shocking new Zombies experience, Multiplayer maps that mainly channel the Zombies legacy, and eerie changes to the Blackout maps.

(Time to Fear) the Reaper: Brandishing the Scythe heavy machine gun (which applies a suppression effect on the enemies it targets), Reaper returns to Multiplayer. This experimental war robot also arrives with the Radar Shroud; a versatile deployable jammer that blocks enemies from using minimap information within its radius.

Black Ops Pass owners now have three additional Multiplayer maps to battle across, including two new Zombies-themed battlegrounds, and a reimagined Black Ops classic: Journey to the Austrian Alps and drop into “Der Schatten” (“The Shadow”), a village sitting in the shadow of Griffin Castle (from “Der Eisendrache”), where a giant robot has spilled out element 115 with interesting results. Or head to the Louisiana swamps in Remnant to visit The Museum of Unnatural History. The museum has recently purchased a unique relic of the past that, sadly for them, still thirsts for blood! In addition, return to the streets of Havana. An original Black Ops map where Cold War tensions are high in a city amidst a revolution.

If you’re parachuting into the main Blackout map, the bright and sunny skies have departed in a prelude to the zombie apocalypse. Life is being leached from the landscape, forcing those still living to take refuge; expect floating embers, decaying and dead flora and fauna, and… are those rivers running red with blood?! Blackout’s environmental changes and associated Zombies secrets will be spread across two map variants: The Haunting Fog limited time Quads playlist and core Blackout modes (Solos, Duos, Quads). As the name suggests, The Haunting Fog features a dark and foreboding fog that will have an impact on gameplay, requiring players to create new strategies to reach the final Collapse. Whereas the core Blackout maps will feature Zombies-inspiring theming but without the intense fog.

Meanwhile, over on the Alcatraz: Nightfall variant of the Blackout Alcatraz map, a new game mode has brought Hellhounds and the Warden to the island where the undead are more prevalent than ever. Drop into the new mode Alcatraz Portals Horde to battle to survive enemies and the horde!

If you’re a Black Ops Pass owner, prepare for the penultimate chapter of the Aether storyline in Treyarch’s newest Zombies experience, “Alpha Omega.” For the first time, you’ll be able to jump into the fray as both the Primis and Ultimis characters, as timelines converge and the fight for survival continues! Battle against new Zombies enemies with secrets behind their existence, solve challenges, and discover Easter Eggs in a wild experience that keeps you guessing until the very end!
