EA Sports UFC 4 on Xbox One is the latest edition of the world’s most popular mixed martial arts video game and with each new iteration, the game gets bigger, deeper, and more detailed. The latest pre-order announcement continues that tradition of delivering surprising modes, improvements and fighters to fans of the UFC.
Players familiar with the EA Sports UFC franchise have seen the fighter rosters grow significantly with each new title. The first UFC game offered up a total of 97 playable characters. Flash forward to UFC 4 and you can now choose from over 220 athletes (including some duplicates at different weight classes), ranging from active fighters to UFC legends. But even with the consistent expansion of the roster from game to game, the two newest playable fighters might surprise even the most dedicated fans. As a pre-order exclusives, players can now enter the octagon with two of boxing’s most punishing fighters: Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Some of the UFC’s biggest names can trace their origins back to boxing. Jorge Masvidal was a boxer (and even a bare-knuckle fighter) in Miami. Holly Holm is a former boxing champion, who some commentators think might be one of the best welterweights of all time. And of course, Conor McGregor trained as a boxer in Dublin before parlaying his striking skills to the UFC. But Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are two of the biggest names in the sport — and their entry as playable fighters in UFC 4 is a milestone. Xbox One owners who pre-order UFC 4 will be able to fight as these two boxing titans in the game.
Anthony Joshua has quickly established himself as one of the dominant finishers in boxing. His heavy hands have secured him a 23-1 professional record with 21 of those victories coming by knockout. Calculating and confident, Joshua likens his fighting style to that of a sniper — breaking down opponents with targeted shots.
Tyson Fury is a true giant in boxing. Standing at 6’9”, Fury’s immense size and extended reach often give him an edge in the ring. Despite his massive frame, fight fans and pundits are quick to note that Fury moves deftly around the ring for a boxer of his stature. Fury has posted a commanding record of 31-0-1. However unorthodox his style, it’s clearly working.
Athletes with this kind of prestige, pedigree and power joining UFC 4 as playable fighters is exciting, but also presents a unique set of considerations. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua dominate the ring with powerful punches, blistering speed, and tremendous size — but how does all that translate to the multidimensional world of mixed martial arts? Their ground game and wrestling are not necessarily their strong suit. As you might expect though, the boxing and striking of these two fighters are impeccable, so if your playstyle is one where you like to stand and bang, they could be the right choice for you.
In a game that has as many new additions as UFC 4, it’s hard to pick out which one is the most exciting — but crossing two of the world’s biggest athletes into mixed martial arts as playable fighters deserves consideration. So pre-order UFC 4 for your chance to step into the Octagon with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua!
