World of Tanks Modern Armor wird laut: ab dem 30. Juli mit Motörhead und Rob Zombie

Wie macht man einen zweiten Akt spektakulär? Indem man die Lautstärke noch mal hochdreht!

In diesem Sommer wird es laut bei World of Tanks Modern Armor, wenn Motörhead und Rob Zombie die Bühne für ein Metal Fest betreten, das das zentrale Event der neuen Heavy-Metal-Saison sein wird!

Genau wie all die besten Musikfestivals, ist Metal Fest zu einem jährlichen Event geworden. Jeder, der unsere Headliner 2023 verpasst hat (Sabaton, Megadeth und Iron Maiden) hat Glück: für kurze Zeit werden wir die Inhalte aus dem letzten Jahr mit all ihrer gitarrenzerstörenden Glorie zurückbringen!

Aber ihr wollt nicht einfach nur das letzte Jahr nochmal erleben. Ihr wollt das neue Zeug erfahren – lasst uns also darüber reden, was nötig war, um das Event dieses Jahr mit den legendären Motörhead und Rob Zombie aufzubauen!

Motörhead

Motörhead springt mit beiden Füßen voran in den Kampf mit neuen Inhalten; unter anderem:

· der “Thunder Chief Object 452K”-Tank
· die “Bomber”-Skin für den FV107 Scimitar
· 2D Commanders, die die Bandmitglieder Lemmy Kilmister, Phil Campbell und Mikkey Dee darstellen
· 3D Commanders, die Lemmy und das Maskottchen der Band, Warpig, nachbilden

Motörhead ist einer der echten Vorreiter von Heavy Metal. Ihr Lifestyle und die Legende bleibt superbeliebt und Gründer Lemmy (der 2015 gestorben ist) wird weiterhin von der Community verehrt.

Aber Lemmy war nicht nur derjenige, der Motörhead berühmt gemacht hat, sondern auch ein großer Spielefan und die Band war aktiv an der Entwicklung der Konzepte und Ideen für den neuen Inhalt von Tanks beteiligt. Sie sagten über den Lemmy-3D-Commander „Dank moderner Technologie haben wir Lemmy voll ins Spiel integriert, was sich passend anfühlte, weil das hier genau die Sorte Spiel ist, an der er richtig Spaß gehabt hätte.“

“Es ist ein Erbe, dass die Motörhead-Superfans in Tanks Design- und Entwicklungsteams absolut ernst genommen haben: „Wir haben eine Menge recherchiert, um sicher zu gehen, dass wir die authentischste Version von Lemmy erschaffen, die es je in irgendeinem Videospiel gab und ich glaube, das haben wir auch geschafft.“, sagt Andy Dorizas, Tanks Art Director. „Ich wollte sicher gehen, dass wir ihn als den großartigen Typen ehren, der er war.“

Die Hingabe zeigt sich nicht nur in den Commanders, sondern auch im Motörhead-Tank und der Skin („Die Rückseite der Tanks, die Verstärker – ihr werdet’s wissen, wenn ihr Bescheid wisst“, sagt Dorizas) und auch noch der Warpig-3D-Commander. Nach Dorizas: “Wir geben Warpig sogar die Bombe vom Bomber-Albumcover fürs Spiel, wenn ihr ihn in der UI wählt.“

Tatsächlich werden Fans hier zum ersten Mal Warpigs Stimme hören. Eine Verantwortung, die auf einen andren Motörhead-Fan entfiel: Brendan Blewett, Tanks Audio Director.

“Motörhead bietet euch klare Ziele und Vorgaben für Warpig, weil sie einen Charakter haben wollten, der eine Kreuzung zwischen einem wilden, freilaufenden, regellosen Biker und einer englischen Bulldogge ist.“ Blewett erklärt: “Ich musste darüber nachdenken, wie ich das erreichen könnte und entschied mich, dass eine Mischung aus verschiedenen Aufnahmen, die Kombination aus modulierten menschlichen Stimmen und der Aufnahme von Hundestimmen, die richtige Methode wäre.“

Also wer durfte bei dieser Kultrolle helfen? „Meine Schwägerin hat einen Puggle namens Ollie, der sehr bekannt dafür ist, die besten Schnauf-, Atem- und Grunzgeräusche zu machen – er bot sich also quasi an.“, erzählt Blewett. „Jede Zeile ist eine menschliche Stimme, die direkt von Hundestimmen moduliert wird.“

Manchmal geht man sehr weit, um Rock ‘n Roll passieren zu lassen.

Rob Zombie

Rob Zombie donnert aufs Schlachtfeld mit neuen Inhalten, darunter:

· Der “Dragula T-55AGM”-Tank
· Die “Superbeast”-Skin für die M53/55
· 2D- und 3D-Commanders moduliert nach dem großen Mann in Person

Zombie ist eine unnachahmliche kreative Kraft, die seit der Veröffentlichung von Hellbilly Deluxe 1998 den Status als König des Shock Rock für ihn gesichert hat. Der “Dragula T-55AGM” erkannte das mit einem Design an, das die Lead Single des Albums ehrt.

Aber Zombies Karriere geht viel weiter als das – und das sollte der 3D-Commander ganz besonders darstellen und all die Errungenschaften und Interessen reflektieren.

“Wir brachten zwei Designs für seinen 3D-Commander an den Start“, sagt Dorizas. „Rob wählte einen, der ihn authentischer darstellte und weniger an ein Album gebunden war – ein richtig krasser Tanker mit fiesem Stil und einer ernsten Bedrohung.“

Egal welcher Akt euer Favorit ist – das Metal Fest dieses Jahr wird ein Highlight. Motörhead und Rob Zombie waren unter den fünf am häufigsten gewünschten Acts der Fans und wir finden, es ist eine Ehre, euch das liefern zu können.

Celebrating 10 Years of World of Tanks on Xbox

World of Tanks is hitting the big ten! Since 2014, the game’s been part of the Xbox free-to-play scene, bringing you only the best tank battles on console. It’s safe to say that the game wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for its first release back in the Xbox 360 days.

Wargaming CEO, Victor Kislyi himself reflects on his time at the Microsoft E3 2013 Press Conference. “As I look back, it was incredible to be on stage 10 years ago during the 2013 Microsoft press conference announcing World of Tanks for Xbox. Wargaming was thrilled to bring World of Tanks, the game that has been my life, to a platform with millions of players. We were the vanguard of F2P on console, providing a new way to both play and discover games. This was only possible with the support and belief of our trusted partner, Microsoft, with whom we have continuously achieved significant results. It has been an amazing decade for World of Tanks on Xbox and here is to many more!”

Since then, it was full speed ahead to keep Victor’s vision alive. And Director of Live Operations Valerie MacCracken will vouch that it was quite the ride. “At the time, there weren’t many free-to-play games on Xbox 360… It felt like unchartered territory.” The hard work would eventually pay off. “The game has evolved tremendously since its release, from having only three tank nations to now having a full tech tree across two game modes, a ton of new features, with more coming up this year!”

From the World War II theaters to the high-paced Cold War battlefields, we’ve traveled across history with a roster of tough-as-nails vehicles of all shapes, sizes, and nations.

Leading into our tenth anniversary festivities, our January 30 update brought important updates to the game, particularly to Cold War mode. We’re calibrating the Silver and XP research costs for your Cold War vehicles, so you grind less, collect faster, and enjoy your time on the battlefield even more.

The latest update also brought the new Azure Coast community map, a fresh batch of War Chests, and limited-time Chinese New Year-themed bundles to the game. It also marked the end of the Resolutions event. Commanders who participated in it (by completing seasons throughout 2023) and finished at least five seasons will find the one-of-a-kind T34 Calliope waiting for them in their garage. This unique vehicle is the only World War II tank with rockets, making it a real collector’s item exclusive to console. And if you’ve completed six seasons, you’re getting the tank plus a side of bonus rewards!

And now, let’s dive into the Year of the Dragon season details. As in previous seasons, you have 100 levels where themed rewards are ready to be earned. In this season, inspired by the Chinese zodiac for 2024, there are three reward paths to choose from. All tank commanders automatically start on the Free path, where you can earn rewards every few levels ranging from the reliable Type 59-II Premium tank, the season Medal, a 2D Dragon Commander, Gold, War Chests, and more! Then you have the Season Pass, where you receive rewards at every level (in addition to the Free rewards), more tanks, and the new WZ-1224 premium tank once you complete level 100.

And for your third option, the Ultimate Season Pass will immediately give you everything in the Season and Free pass, plus the new Highlander 116-F3 Premium tank for World War II mode, a themed 3D Hero Commander, and 25 completed levels.

It’s World of Tanks Modern Armor’s anniversary, but it’s you who’s getting the gifts. New affiliations for Cold War mode, a new World War II Tech Tree line, and specials for D-Day’s 80th anniversary, Tankfest, and Halloween are among some of the highlights for 2024.

Also, going back to Cold War and researching just for a bit, this February, you’ll be able to start a new Tech Tree line of German light tanks, from the Post-War Era (Era 1) all the way to the Détente Era (Era 3), and tank destroyers, from the Post-War Era (Era 1) to the Escalation Era (Era 2). If you’re new to the game, Cold War mode’s light tanks may look “light” at first, but they pack some serious firepower and are crucial for suppressing and ambushing the enemy thanks to their maneuverability. As for the tank destroyers, their name says it all.

There’s so much to look forward to with the release of Year of the Dragon and World of Tanks Modern Armor’s tenth anniversary’s yearlong celebrations.

‘Tis the season to be tankful as Vinnie Jones teams up with World of Tanks Modern Armor to bring you Holiday Ops 2024!

This community-driven event starts on December 1. Get ready to hop into your favorite tanks and score themed rewards together with World of Tanks Modern Armor players across the globe or, for the first time ever, on your own. Yes, this year’s Holiday Ops event brings you double the fun and the rewards with two paths to follow. You can take on both your personal op with the Santa’s Helper Earn Challenge, as well as the community-based Holiday Op event. Each path will have its own rewards ranging from themed Cosmetics, boosters, and Consumables to the powerful Charlemagne Premium tank.

And the latest addition to Santa’s team will also be joining the celebrations to make sure that all Commanders stay on the nice list this year.

Introducing Our Holiday Ambassador!

Former soccer player and professional tough guy Vinnie Jones joins you in the game as Holiday Ops 2024’s special guest. Known for his no-nonsense roles in film classics like Snatch (2000) and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998), Jones is essentially a human tank, a professional strongman who was practically built for the humor that we had planned for this year’s Holiday Ops experience.

“He has tough-guy charisma, and it fit great with our new concept for the Holiday Ops 2024 event,” said Alena Terekhova, Publishing Director for World of Tanks Modern Armor. “It was a blast to work with him, and he was open to sharing his thoughts and ideas.”

In the Holiday Ops 2024 trailer, Jones plays the role of the top enforcer for none other than jolly ol’ Saint Nick. For years, while Santa Claus has tended to the Nice List, Jones has paid visits to the people on the Naughty List, reminding them exactly why you better watch out.

This year, however, things are different for Vinnie. He’s found a holiday role that he thinks might suit him better, one that includes a sweet new company ride: a tank commander in World of Tanks!

Jones indeed had a blast with the concept, too (and not just because he and Santa got to take his tank out for some practice shots, as seen in the trailer). “I am a World of Tanks commander now, and it is going to be ‘Jingle-Bells’ all the way!” he said.

Terekhova echoed Jones’ enthusiasm, saying, “I think we all managed and reached our intention – the promotional video that Vinnie Jones took part in is indeed different from our previous Holiday Ops trailers.”

That much holiday cheer couldn’t be confined to the trailer, even a trailer as large as this. We had to bring Vinnie Jones into the game itself. That means that during Holiday Ops, you’ll be able to recruit Vinnie Jones as your very own tank commander!

Holiday Ops Commanders and Tank

World of Tanks Modern Armor will have both a 2D and a 3D version of the Vinnie Jones Commander, with the 2D version available as a reward in the Santa’s Helper Earn Challenge. Both will feature 250 lines of custom voiceover that Jones himself recorded for this event earlier in 2023. Ever the consummate professional, Jones applied his natural focus on production day and recorded his lines in about a half-hour.

“We worked with different development and publishing teams across Wargaming [World of Tanks PC and World of Tanks Blitz],” said Terekhova. “We had to balance between priorities and product focuses, but we all agreed that we want to have something new and outstanding this year, so we remained focused, but creative at the same time.

“I remember one of our first steps was to choose how we wanted to present Vinnie Jones: as a Santa-type character, or the kind of tough hero he plays in his movies, or even a football player, but Santa’s enforcer sounded like a perfect fit for our concept, so we proceeded with this direction.”

So while you’ll be able to hear Jones’ signature toughness in every line of dialogue, several lines in particular are spiked with holiday cheer … and those aren’t the only special details.

For the 3D Commander in particular, Terekhova says, “Vinnie’s look features a stylish suit and red coat. The suit is tailored to reflect Vinnie’s sophisticated personality while also being versatile enough to accommodate his active lifestyle. The red coat adds a touch of festivity to his overall appearance, making him stand out during the holiday event.”

And of course, every commander needs a vehicle. The tank we designed for Vinnie Jones had to have his personality, too, because if you’re going to go out tanking, you might as well go in style, you know?

This year’s Holiday Ops tank, available for purchase, is the British Tier IX Old Reliable Medium Tank, a versatile vehicle that’s as dependable as its name suggests, no matter how rough the situation gets. Old Reliable is cast in an exterior that calls to mind the timeless elegance of blackened iron and burnished wood, and also features slogans and mottos that pay tribute to Jones’ entire career and were approved by the man himself.

Megadeth erscheint diesen Monat in World of Warships und World of Tanks

Der Sommer ist die Zeit der Musikfestivals, doch wer von euch hätte erwartet, dass wir diesen August einer der größten Heavy Metal Bands das Kommando über unsere Kriegsschiffe und Panzer übernehmen lassen?

Hoffentlich seid ihr genauso aufgeregt wie alle Metalheads bei Wargaming. Seid ab 29. August auf PS4 und PS5 in World of Warships: Legends und World of Tanks Modern Armor beim Metal Fest mit Megadeth dabei.

Dieses Event kann nicht weniger als bombastisch sein. Megadeth wurde 1983 gegründet, gehört zu den „Big Four“-Bands des Thrash Metal und kann zudem einen Grammy Award sowie mehrere Platin-Alben für sich verbuchen. Da mussten wir die Band einfach in vollem Umfang ins Spiel eintauchen lassen.

Die Panzer und das Kriegsschiff

Dann schauen wir erst einmal, was es Neues für die Spiele geben wird!
- World of Tanks Modern Armor:
  - Die Spieler erhalten den M67 „Soldier On“ (ein neuer WWII-Flammenwerferpanzer) und den Leclerc-Ares-Prototyp „Peace Sells“ (ein neues Kalter-Krieg-Fahrzeug).
- World of Warships: Legends:
  - Die Spieler erhalten den amerikanischen Stufe-IV-Premium-Kreuzer „Rattlehead“.
„Für das Schiff hatten wir ein ganzes Team aus Artists, das sich primär um dessen Designaspekte gekümmert hat“, erklärte Konstantin Tkachenko, Product Manager von Legends. „Wir haben mit der Band zusammengearbeitet, ihnen unsere Konzepte gezeigt und ihr Feedback miteinbezogen.“

Auch was die Panzer betrifft, erinnert sich der Senior Producer JJ Bakken an die Zusammenarbeit: „Die Band hat schon früh Vorschläge gemacht und wir haben mit ihr an mehreren Überarbeitungen der Panzer gearbeitet. Die Panzerentwürfe sind direkte Anspielungen auf zwei Albumcover von Megadeth, also hatten wir da schon mal klare Vorlagen.“

Ihr denkt jetzt vielleicht, dass es die umfangreiche Diskografie von Megadeth schwer machen würde, Alben als Inspiration für Fahrzeuge auszusuchen, doch zwei Ansätze stachen für Bakken und das Tanks-Team besonders heraus.

„Peace Sells […but Who’s Buying?] ist ein echtes Kultalbum und das Cover passt thematisch toll zu unserem Panzer aus dem Kalten Krieg. Was den WWII-Panzer angeht, hat uns letztendlich der Song ‚Soldier On!‘ aus dem neuen Album [The Sick, the Dying…and the Dead!] dazu inspiriert, dieses Album als visuellen Bezug zu verwenden.“

Allerdings musste das Ganze noch die Musterung durch die Band bestehen.

„Als ich die Werbung mit Vic Rattlehead als Immobilienmakler auf dem Panzer sah, war mir klar, dass sie saubere Arbeit geleistet haben“, so der legendäre Frontmann Dave Mustaine. „Vic, der Immobilien nach der Apokalypse verkauft, repräsentiert den Kern der Illustration von Peace Sells.“

Apropos Dave Mustaine und Co. …

Die Kommandanten

Es wäre kein richtiges Metal Fest, wenn wir nicht auch Megadeth selbst in beide Spiele packen würden:
- World of Tanks Modern Armor:
  - Alle vier Bandmitglieder (Mustain, Bassist James LoMenzo, Schlagzeuger Dirk Verbeuren und Gitarrist Kiko Loureiro) sowie das berüchtigte Maskottchen Vic Rattlehead werden als 2D-Kommandanten verfügbar sein.
- World of Warships: Legends:
  - Mustaine und Vic werden eigens designte Skins für amerikanische Kommandanten sein.
- Zudem werden Panzer über einen „Vic Rattlehead“-3D-Kommandanten mit 17 Animationen verfügen, die allein für ihn erstellt wurden.
„Vics Animationen unterscheiden sich enorm von denen der normalen [3D]-Kommandanten“, erklärte Andy Dorizas, Art Director von World of Tanks. „Er rockt in der Garage ab und macht die Pommesgabel-Geste in Richtung Kamera. Auf den Charakterbildschirmen sollte rüberkommen, dass er ein absoluter Metalhead ist.“

Aber das ist noch nicht alles. Jeder Megadeth-Kommandant erhält in beiden Spielen eine eigene Vertonung, die von den Bandmitgliedern höchstselbst aufgenommen wurde – das ist das erste Mal, dass Megadeth die Sprachausgabe für ein Videospiel beigesteuert hat.

„Die Aufnahmen haben sie selbst durchgeführt, wobei ich per Videoanruf die Regie übernommen habe“, so Brendan Blewett, Audio Director von World of Tanks. „Chris Rakestraw, der Produzent und Tontechniker der Band, war außerdem anwesend … wir haben während der Sessions oft herzhaft gelacht, als die Bandmitglieder den Text auf die Schippe nahmen oder Witze improvisierten – einige davon haben wir vielleicht sogar als Easter Eggs versteckt.“

Im Laufe von ungefähr einer Woche nahm jedes Mitglied insgesamt 219 Lines für Legends und 329 für Tanks auf.

Dies schließt auch Vic Rattlehead ein, wodurch die Fans ihn zum ersten Mal überhaupt reden hören können. Und wer hat Vic gesprochen?

„Niemand anders als Mr. Dave Mustaine!“, so Blewett. „Chris Rakestraw und Dave erschufen gemeinsam den ‚Vic Rattlehead‘-Effekt. Sie steckten ganz schön viel Kreativität rein, um Vic so eindrucksvoll und gewaltig klingen zu lassen, wie der Charakter nun mal ist.“

„Wer hätte es sonst machen sollen?“, fragte Mustaine. „Vic ist schon fast mein ganzes Leben lang Teil von mir. Jetzt werdet auch ihr hören können, wie seine Stimme in meinem Kopf klingt!“

Ein Einblick: Warhammer 40,000 x World of Tanks

Es war nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis der Krieg zur Verteidigung der Menschheit neue Schlachtfelder erreichen würde. Ab dem 2. Mai können Spieler von World of Tanks Modern Armor gegen Orks und die Mächte des Chaos kämpfen – in diesem brandneuen Warhammer 40,000-Event für PlayStation 4 und PlayStation 5.

Dieses imperiale Event bietet unglaubliche Inhalte, mit denen die Spieler in das Warhammer 40,000-Universum eintauchen können. Fünf neue Panzer, zwei neue 3D-Heldenkommandanten mit exklusiver Vertonung und ein zeitlich begrenztes Community-Event – all das ist für jene verfügbar, die schwören, den Imperator zu verteidigen.

„Sowohl Warhammer 40,000 als auch World of Tanks Modern Armor blicken auf eine lange Geschichte mit Fahrzeugkämpfen zurück“, sagt Daniel Burr, Live-Game Director für World of Tanks Modern Armor. „Ganz gleich, ob man in einem Sherman oder einem Lerman Russ sitzt, Panzer sind mächtig!“

„Die größte Herausforderung war die Detailgenauigkeit“, sagt Burr. „Die Panzer und Kommandanten in Warhammer 40,000 sind sehr detailliert und diese Details zu berücksichtigen, war ein ganzes Stück Arbeit, das viel Kommunikation mit unseren Partner bei Games Workshop forderte.“

Kopf der Bemühungen, diese Panzer detailgetreu auf ein Schlachtfeld des 20. Jahrhunderts zu bringen, war Andy Dorizas, Art Director von World of Tanks Modern Armor. Dorizas merkt jedoch schnell an, dass das keineswegs eine Aufgabe für eine einzige Person war. „Die Kommandanten und die Panzer waren ein riesiges Gruppenprojekt, das vier Kontinente und mehrere Monate umspannte“, sagt er. „Bei den Panzern aus Warhammer 40,000 ging es um Detailgenauigkeit.“

Eine besondere Herausforderung war es, den Leman Russ nachzustellen, den bevorzugten Kampfpanzer des Astra Militarum. Als Panzer, der ausschließlich in World of Tanks Modern Armor und nicht in anderen World of Tanks-Titeln vorkommt, war ein besonderes Maß an Kreativität gefordert.

„Wir haben das Aussehen des Panzers akribisch studiert, sodass das Ergebnis exakt wird“, erklärt Dorizas. „Dann haben wir unsere Konzepte von Artists in umsetzbare Geometrie für das Spiel übersetzen lassen. Sobald wir ein Modell für den Leman Russ-Kampfpanzer hatten, haben wir ihn so angemalt, dass er den wohl beliebtesten Farben aus dem Universum entspricht – genauso, wie es viele Fans der Modelle jeden Tag tun.“

Aber Dorizas und sein Team haben dort noch nicht aufgehört. „Selbstverständlich haben wir tonnenweise Abnutzungsspuren und Details hinzugefügt, damit der Panzer … kampferprobt aussieht. Unsere engagierten Panzer-Artists haben ihm unser spezielles Track-System verpasst, die Designer haben die Kollisions- und Balanceparameter aus World of Tanks hinzugefügt – und bumm. Jetzt könnt ihr einen Leman Russ in unserem Spiel fahren.“

Die Kommandanten

Jedes Fahrzeug, das die Erde erzittern lässt, braucht einen geeigneten Krieger. Während des Events sind zwei neue 3D-Heldenkommandanten für verfügbar, die im Namen des Imperators kämpfen: Volusad Thassis von den Ultramarines und Patricia Laserian von den Adepta Sororitas.

Ebenso wie die Panzer bedurften diese 3D-Kommandanten besonderer Aufmerksamkeit, um zum Leben erweckt zu werden.

„Die Modelle der [3D-] Kommandanten durchliefen mehrere iterative Sitzungen, um sicherzustellen, dass wir alle Details bedacht hatten. Dann wurden sie von einigen unserer superbegabten Artists bei Wargaming mit Texturen und Farbe versehen“, sagt Andy Dorizas. „Dann haben wir eine spezielle Motion-Capture-Session nur für unsere Kommandanten durchgeführt und unser Animator hatte viel Spaß dabei, sie besonders pampig zu machen.“

Sobald die visuellen Modelle fertiggestellt waren, war es Zeit, den Kommandanten ihre beiden einzigartigen Stimmen zu verleihen.

Leitung über das Voiceover dieses Projekts hatte der Veteran der Spieleindustrie, Jason „Jay“ Baughan“, der zuvor schon als Voice-Director tätig war – unter anderem bei LEGO Star Wars: Die Skywalker Saga und Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. „Am Ende geht es um die Authentizität und darum, eine Erfahrung zu erschaffen, die den Fans von Warhammer 40,000 gerecht wird“, sagt Baughan. „Das haben wir, denke ich, geschafft, indem wir mit waschechten Voiceover-Veteranen aus Warhammer 40,000 gearbeitet haben.“

Baughan und die Stimmtalente haben über 300 einzigartige Sätze für jeden Kommandanten aufgenommen. Das Ergebnis?

„In Sachen Qualität haben wir die Messlatte noch höher gelegt: Vom Ultramarine-Kommandanten oder der Kommandantin der Adepta Sororitas für deinen Sieg im Kampf gelobt zu werden, ändert wirklich das Spielerlebnis“, sagt Daniel Burr.

Die Schlacht

Passenderweise sind all diese Inhalte Teil der derzeitigen epischen Saison „Gladiatoren“ in World of Tanks Modern Armors. Zusätzlich gibt ein zweiteiliges Community-Event, bei welchem die Spieler sich entweder den Space Marines oder den Adepta Sororitas anschließen können, um dann erst gegen Orks und später gegen die Handlanger des Chaos zu kämpfen.

Ganz gleich, ob die Spieler mit Warhammer 40,000 vertraut oder nur bereit für die Schlacht sind – in diesem Mai werden Helden gebraucht.

World of Tanks AR Spectate: AR-Tabletop-Technologie auf der Gamescom 2018 vorgestellt

Auf der Gamescom 2018 präsentiert Entwicklerstudio Wargaming die AR-Erfahrung World of Tanks AR Spectate, welche die Panzergefechte von World of Tanks in die reale Welt transportiert. Dafür setzten die Entwickler/innen auf eine neue, experimentelle AR-Technologie. Diese erlaubt es, die Inhalte der PC-Version von World of Tanks realistisch in Echtzeit darzustellen.

World of Tanks AR Spectate – AR-Tabletop mit realistischen Objekten

Das MMO World of Tanks weist weltweit mehr als 120 Millionen Spieler/innen auf und erwirtschaftet jährlich mehrere Millionen Euro Gewinn für das Unternehmen. Mit World of Tanks AR Spectate führen die Spieleentwickler Wargaming auf der Gamescom 2018 nun ein neues spannendes AR-Tabletop-Erlebnis vor.

Der AR-Titel ist allerdings noch nicht ausgereift, viel mehr handelt es sich derzeit um ein Proof of Concept. Die Entwickler/innen arbeiten seit einigen Monaten an dem Projekt. Erfahrung sammelten sie bereits in einem vorherigen MR-Projekt, welches ein 3D-Modell eines Panzers aus dem Spiel im Panzermuseum in Bovington vorführte.

Die AR-Erfahrung basiert auf ARCore und soll bereits jetzt stabile 60 FPS gewährleisten. Dabei wird ein iPad mit ARKit mit einem PC verbunden, um die entsprechenden Informationen zu versenden. Während der Computer die nötigen Renderarbeiten erledigt, schickt das Tablet dauerhaft seine aktuelle Position an den PC. Eine Ingame-Kamera erfasst zeitgleich die WoT-Runde. Nach Abschluss des Renderings werden die jeweiligen Daten in einem Videoformat zurück auf das iPad transferiert, um diese darzustellen.

Aufgrund der großen Datenmenge hatten die Devs mit einigen technischen Schwierigkeiten zu kämpfen. So musste man zunächst den Delay in den Griff bekommen, um eine realistische Echtzeitsimulation zu ermöglichen. Nach zahlreichen Optimierungen im Netzwerk, bei der Paketvermittlung und an der Kamera des iPads funktioniert die AR-Simulation nun auf beeindruckende Weise. Derzeit ist die AR-Technologie allerdings nur bei Replays möglich. Die Nutzung für Live-Content ist bei einer Fortentwicklung jedoch durchaus möglich.

Eine Anwendung in verschiedenen Einsatzfeldern ist ebenso denkbar. So wäre ein neuer realistischer Zuschauermodus in Spielen erwägenswert, um beispielsweise eSports-Verantstaltungen noch näher an die Fans zu bringen. Doch auch in den Bereichen Film oder sozialer Interaktion würde die AR-Methode neue Möglichkeiten offenbaren. Bis es so weit ist, muss laut Entwickler/innen jedoch zunächst die 5G-Infrastruktur ausgebaut werden, um die derzeitigen Hardware-Limitierungen aufzuheben.

Mit World of Tanks 1.0 AR stellten die Verantwortlichen bereits Anfang des Jahres ihre ersten Schritte im AR-Markt vor.
