In 1980, President Jimmy Carter issued the first presidential proclamation declaring the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week. In 1987, the National Women’s History Project successfully petitioned Congress to expand the event to the entire month of March.
In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day (March 8), we’re showing love and appreciation all month long to all the women who power Twitch! From creators to mods to staff to women in the gaming industry, we’ll share stories and showcase women on the Twitch home page, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Support 1,000 Dreams Fund and Streams for Dreams
To help us celebrate, 1,000 Dreams Fund (1DF), a national non-profit that provides micro-grants to young women in the U.S., launched Streams for Dreams. Streams for Dreams supports women who are pursuing their dreams in content creation, while raising awareness for the continued gender gap in financial funding for young women in the ever-expanding gaming and broadcasting space. As part of the event, 1DF is introducing the Twitch BroadcastHER Grant, which will directly benefit female content creators.

Get Involved and Share Your Experiences
Throughout the month, we encourage you to spend some time on your stream or in Premieres talking to your community about what Women’s History Month means to you. Plan your own show, event, or usual broadcast to celebrate your way, or, if you don’t know where to start, just fire up Talk Shows and answer questions like:
- What does Women’s History Month mean to you?
- Who is somebody in Women’s history that you admire/look up too/wish you could meet? Why?
- What kind of impact would you like to leave on the world and Twitch community?
- Why do you care about diversity? How do we benefit when our community is diverse?
- What message of encouragement and inclusion would you like to give viewers/streamers?
