Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection erscheint heute auf PS4

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

  • Samurai Shodown: Beginner’s Guide, Shizumaru Joins the Battle Today

Samurai Shodown: Beginner’s Guide, Shizumaru Joins the Battle Today

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Hey guys, how’s it going? I’m KK, SNK’s community manager, and today I’d like to talk a bit about the basics of Samurai Shodown. Upon first glance, many claim that Samurai Shodown seems difficult due to its weapon-based combat, but the underlying mechanics are actually quite simple.

Each character has a light, medium, and heavy slash attack as well as a kick. This is very similar to other fighting games out there, however what makes Samurai Shodown special is its Rage system.

Unlike other games where characters have a POW or Energy bar that goes up with every landed hit, the Rage Gauge only goes up when you take a hit (or perform a Just Defense). The Rage Gauge can only be used when it’s at full capacity, and will empty itself at once after a short amount of time. During Max Rage, players earn a buff to their attack power, and they now have access to their Weapon Flipping Technique or WFT. The WFT disarms an opponent, which can greatly turn the tables in your favor.

But say you’re down a round and knocking on death’s door. You’re not just going to lie down and die, are you? GET HEATED by performing a Rage Explosion (by pressing light, medium, and heavy slash at the same time or L2). This will put you instantly at Max Rage, and not only will you get the added attack bonus and unlocked WFT, but you can now perform a Lightning Blade attack. The Lightning Blade is a one-time use attack that scales according to your HP and remaining Rage Gauge. Claim victory in one fell swoop, just like in your favorite anime!

    Did you know?

Samurai Shodown features a new character every month until February! Last month, Hell froze over when Rimururu took the stage. This month, we have everyone’s favorite umbrella boy, Shizumaru, cutting into action.

    Who is Shizumaru?

You wouldn’t get many answers even if you asked him, since he doesn’t know himself! But from what we do know, we can say that he’s a troubled lad traveling the lands in search of an answer to this question: Is the murderous rage that lurks deep in his heart the result of a demon, or is it his true self?

    What makes Shizumaru unique?

Shizumaru has a lot of tricks up his sleeve to not only survive in battle, but to claim it.
Firstly, he has the ability to use his umbrella in-air to softly float down. This can mess up your opponent as timing is everything, and messing that up by coming down slowly or suddenly can net you a chance to ruin their day.

Secondly, Shizumaru can charge his weapon for a devastating attack. But that’s not all, you can still continue to attack even while you charge up your attack. Simply release the button you chose to charge the attack to let it rip.

He may look small and weak, but come on; this is Samurai Shodown. We all know looks can be deceiving.

Shizumaru will be available for all players starting September 16!

Samurai Shodown is just about to launch and players around the world are roaring to embrace death with their fellow peers. This sword-based fighting game is not for the weak at heart, for at any moment you can go from being on top of the world to six feet under in mere seconds. This new title in the Samurai Shodown series cuts its way into the FGC by adding three new, completely original characters to its roster. Fan favorites like Nakoruru and Galford take the stage as newcomers Darli Dagger, Yashamaru Kurama, and Wu Ruixiang come blazing in with playstyles unique to their character personalities.

Additionally, SNK has announced who the four characters of the Season 1 DLC pack are! We kicked off E3 with the reveal of Rimururu, the cute but deadly little sister of franchise star Nakoruru. But the three other characters are true-to-form OG ones that will make any SamSho fan squeal with delight.

In order of release they are:

    Rimururu

I bet you’re looking for ice or cold puns. Come on. Even I know better than that.

Cute and cold have never gone together so easily! Oh, but watch out; her zoning tactics will have you ripping your hair out. Loveable Rimururu is joined by her protector spirit, Konru, as she sets out on an adventure to prove she has what it takes to protect nature. Does she succeed or fail in her journey? Read the first letter of each sentence in this paragraph to find out!

    Basara

Basara is back and ripping into action with his signature weapon, the Togabitogoroshi. If you thought ninja throwing stars were dangerous, wait till you see this monstrosity. Nobody wants to embrace death more than Basara, but he is one of the few examples where you can’t always get what you want.

    Kazuki Kazama

When there’s an evil spirit bringing an imbalance to the natural order of things, who do you call? Kazuki Kazama, of course! Armed with the Suzaku, a blade which contains the trapped fire spirit, Enja, Kazuki sets out to bring peace to the land and vanquish evil!

    Wan-Fu

Throughout the series, Wan-Fu has used many weapons to send his opponents to the afterlife. In this installment, he’s picked up his trusty stone pillar to turn people into manhole covers. Wan-Fu doesn’t just drop his weapon, he throws it–you decide who’s going to be on the receiving end.

A message from (Samurai Shodown) Producer, Yasuyuki Oda

“For the first season, we wanted to extend our roster with different playstyles which can keep all players on their feet. Even though they’re still in development, we feel that each character has a very unique playstyle which fans new and old are sure to love.
We at SNK truly hope you enjoy the newest installment in the Samurai Shodown franchise.”

Samurai Shodown hits PS4 today, and the DLC characters start rolling out this August. And don’t forget, the first Season Pass DLC is completely free if you purchase or preorder by June 30!

  • A First Look at Samurai Shodown’s Merciless Assassin, Genjuro

A First Look at Samurai Shodown’s Merciless Assassin, Genjuro

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

After 10 years, the series that pioneered 2D swordplay is back. Samurai Shodown is known for its heavy influence of Japanese culture and high-risk high-reward gameplay that puts players on the edge of their seats. New players may notice that there is a lack of ‘combos’ in this fighting game, but I assure you this is by design. Button mashing and being too impatient will only open you up for punishment, so it’s best to learn from your enemy and strike when the iron is hot.

The core foundation that makes Samurai Shodown what it is comes down to its Rage Gauge, which fills up upon being hit. At max Rage, the player’s character receives a passive attack bonus, and they additionally have access to their Weapon Flipping Technique, which if landed, can disarm the opponent leaving them extremely vulnerable.

Performing a Rage Explosion during any time of the match will put a character at max Rage, and adding upon the benefit of the attack buff and Weapon Flipping Technique, players now have the option to perform a Lightning Blade attack, which deals massive damage on hit. This however comes at a price, as performing a Rage Explosion removes the Rage Gauge for the rest of the battle, meaning the player will now have to rely on wit and speed to close the match.

Finally, players have the one-time option to use their Super Special Move, which can greatly take down an opponent’s HP. But be warned, it has a slight charge-up time, which can leave you open for attack!

A First Look at Samurai Shodown’s Merciless Assassin, Genjuro

    Dojo Mode

The newest addition to the Samurai Shodown series is our new Dojo Mode. Here, players can fight against their very own Ghost, which is the culmination of player’s very own input data collected during offline modes. This serves as an excellent way for players new and old to discover their faults before their opponent does.

Additionally, other player Ghosts can be downloaded and fought against, which gives players the opportunity to fight against professional players right from home!

    Genjuro

What Samurai Shodown wouldn’t be complete without the big G. I’m talking about Genjuro, of course, who made his first appearance in Samurai Shodown II. For many that may know already, Genjuro is a hired assassin who really knows how to get the job done. In fact, he loves killing so much that he’ll gladly cut down anyone that stands in his way. The only person able to put up a fight against him is his rival Haohmaru.

Haohmaru and Genjuro go way back to when they were kids being trained by the same sensei. Genjuro, unable to control his lust for killing, abandoned the dojo he trained at in order to live out a life of drugs, sex, and violence. Upon leaving, he threatened Haohmaru that if they ever cross paths again, Genjuro wouldn’t think twice before cutting him down. Will he succeed in killing Haohmaru and living his life as a lawless murderer, or will his past deeds catch up and force him to die by the sword? Only you can decide that outcome.

    Final Word

Samurai Shodown is a series beloved by many across the world. Much effort was put into this new title to give players the ultimate samurai experience, which is living on the edge of a blade. Only those willing to Embrace Death and learn from their mistakes will be able to succeed, and I hope I can be there crossing swords with you all on day one.

Before we say goodbye, I have a special message from our partners at Athlon Games:

Samurai Shodown’s Season Pass will provide players with extra value, encompassing the first six months of DLC including four new playable characters. What’s more, the Season Pass will be available absolutely free through PlayStation Store until June 30 as a thank you to early adopters. Some regional restrictions apply.
