Code named Project Reality, the console’s design was mostly finalized by mid-1995, though Nintendo 64’s launch was delayed until 1996. As part of the fifth generation ofgaming, the system competed primarily with the PlayStation and the Sega Saturn. The Nintendo 64 was launched with Super Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64. Unfortunately, Nintendo never got around to making a portable version, despite the console’s popularity.

When closed, R-Kaid-R just looks like a wooden box, with a vintage arcade joystick handle, but when you open the lid, it becomes a fully-functional portable gaming system, running MAME, which lets you play over 10,000 titles. Inside this 27 x 17 x 9cm box, you’ll find an 8″ display and a custom screw-in 8-way joystick, along with 8 arcade-quality buttons.
