Hi everyone! Dom here again, Creative Director of Pixelopus. Now that some time has passed since the release of Concrete Genie, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the successful launch, amazing reviews, great fan support — and also to let you know about a little surprise we have in store for you all that will drop today!

When we were making Concrete Genie, we knew that there may have been risk involved in making something with such a personal message, and with uniquely creative gameplay at its heart. It was such an overwhelming surprise to read all the great reviews and see such a wonderful heartfelt response from the PlayStation community. All of us here at Pixelopus are incredibly touched by the support, and particularly those who have reached out to say how much the themes in the game have moved them, or better still, helped them in some way. This was one of our greatest hopes when making the game.

We have also been thrilled to hear from families and gamers of all ages who have been enjoying Concrete Genie together. We designed the game and its story to appeal to all ages but, in particular, we hoped that families could benefit from the universal themes and creative gameplay. This has been so rewarding to watch! We hope that many more families over the holiday period (and beyond) continue to enjoy everything that Concrete Genie has to offer. Please continue to help us spread the word about this game, and what it is about. It has made such a difference so far and we are really grateful for the help!

Finally, and perhaps most excitingly, we have a surprise gift for everyone who owns a copy of Concrete Genie! We have built a special Holiday Brush Design Pack, which everyone who owns the game will get for free*! It’s the perfect way for us to say thank you for the support, and to help everyone get into the festive spirit.

When you download the patch which is released today, you will be greeted with a new message asking if you would like to activate the holiday pack. Once you say yes, you can load up your existing saves, or start a new game, and find that many of the brushes have been given a holiday makeover! We had so much fun making this special set of brushes and can’t wait to see the holiday scenes you paint with them. You can also turn them on/off in the front end menu at any time.

Concrete Genie, the second release from San Mateo-based studio Pixelopus, is out now on PS4! The PlayStation.Blog team is still playing through the game, mostly because we can’t help stopping every two minutes to snap images of Ash and his colorful friends on their journey to restore color and life to the town of Denska.

Concrete Genie’s Photo Mode has the bells and whistles you’d expect: temperature, contrast, vignette, depth of field, rotation sliders, and more are all present and accounted for. When composing many of the shots below, I actually found that outside of tweaking the temperature and enabling depth of field, I didn’t need to change much to capture a stunning image. Speaking of stunning, I took these photos on PS4 Pro — feel free to click through on each one to view the full image.

The “replay” function shines here, too: Simply hit the Square button while in Photo Mode and watch a replay of your art appear on your concrete canvas piece-by-piece before your very eyes. Panning the camera during the replay can make for some interesting shots — I’d love to see what some of the talented videographers out there can come up with!

Expect this gallery to expand as we play through the rest of the game. Of course, we’d love to see your shots as well! Hello! Dominic Robilliard, Creative Director of Pixelopus here with very exciting news. I’m happy to announce that Concrete Genie will be available on October 8.

To celebrate this occasion, we have a new Concrete Genie trailer to share, which provides some new glimpses of our protagonist Ash on his personal journey to paint his hometown of Denska back to life, as well as the challenges he’ll face along the way. Later on in the game there is an exciting gameplay twist, which we hinted at in our last trailer, and we show some more of that here. Ash’s magic brush has a few new surprises that are revealed through the course of the story, one of which is ‘Paint Skating’. We hope you like it!

As for our next bit of news – pre-orders begin today!

All of us at Pixelopus want as many people to experience Concrete Genie as possible. We’re thrilled to share our price point – $29.99 USD / $39.99 CAD MSRP for the Standard Edition and $39.99 USD / $49.99 CAD MSRP for the Digital Deluxe. All editions of Concrete Genie include two beautiful and immersive PlayStation VR modes* that we unveiled back in April in addition to the core PS4 game.

Additionally, we’re thrilled to confirm that a Photo Mode will be available at launch. We have added a special feature to it – a timelapse style ‘Replay’ that allows you to show how you put your artistic compositions together. We can’t wait to see the images and clips of the artwork you’ll create once you get your hands on this feature.

As an incentive for people who pre-order, we’re offering an Avatar set as well as a special Dynamic Theme featuring a rooftop scene from Denska, with special music composed by Sam Marshall. We’re really happy with how the theme turned out and hope all those that pre-order enjoy having its atmospheric vibes on their PS4s.
