  • How ID@Xbox is Enabling 8 Global Game Developers to Realize Their Vision

How ID@Xbox is Enabling 8 Global Game Developers to Realize Their Vision

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

One core mission here at Xbox is ensuring that games can be experienced by players all around the world, and supporting developers on their journey to create incredible experiences is a key part of this goal. This year, ID@Xbox is helping independent studios bring some amazing new titles to Xbox, PC and Game Pass. To celebrate here’s a look at eight exciting upcoming games from the EMEA and APAC regions, and how Xbox is supporting bringing them to life.

Fallen Tear: The Ascension by Winter Crew (Philippines)

Get stuck into a fresh take on Metroidvania in Fallen Tear: The Ascension, a 2D JRPG set in a magical, unique world. As Hira, you’ll uncover secrets from your past, battle dangerous beasts, and even defy a god or two along the way! More details on the title are expected soon.

“As a team debuting our first game, we needed more experience to promote and spread the word about it effectively. ID@Xbox helped us realize that reaching a wider audience is now possible,” says Stephen Manalastas, Founder of CMD Studio. “Our game was created as a love letter to the gaming community, offering a fresh and enjoyable take on the Metroidvania genre. We’re truly grateful for ID@Xbox’s support, as it allows us indie developers to share our passion with the world.”

    InKonbini by Nagai Industries (Japan)

Nagai Industries is crafting a wonderful slice-of-life narrative title that places you in the shoes of a small-town convenience worker in 1990s Japan. Stock goods, manage deliveries, and enjoy the tranquil, heart-warming stories you’ll uncover each day. InKonbini is set to release in early 2025.

“When you’re an independent developer, your marketing resources are extremely limited, and finding a platform that enables efficient communication with the world of gaming media can be crucial,” says Dima Shen, Founder of Nagai Industries. “We at Nagai Industries have been extremely fortunate to join the selected group of developers allowed to present their projects at ID@Xbox and to have a chance of reaching a wider audience than we have ever aspired to. Not only that, but the way this initiative is designed and handled makes you feel at home right away, and this friendly attitude of everyone involved is what makes it a unique, memorable and an overall positive experience.”

    Brocula by Destroyer Doggo (India)

In Brocula, you’ll take on the role of a vampire awoken from a 500 year snooze with a mild problem – the world has changed entirely. You’ll navigate the daunting maze of capitalism to earn your way, and reap the fund to restore your ancestral caste, which is now owned by the town’s major. You can also start a cult! More details on Brocula are coming soon.

“As a solo dev it is hard to manage different parts of the game dev cycle. The number of resources shared via ID@Xbox online sessions and webinars is just amazing,” says Prateek Jadhwani, Founder of Destroyer Doggo. “It gives you a new perspective on how much people are working (from the ID@Xbox team) in the background to make your game a success, whether it be in terms of helping you with marketing, development related queries or even helping new developers like me talk to studios who have launched successful titles. I am glad to be a partner at ID@Xbox. Thank you ID@Xbox team for all the help and support!”

Go-Go Town by Prideful Sloth (Australia)

Go-Go Town is a quirky, co-op city builder where you’ll take on the role as mayor of a rundown town. Team up with friends to build new shops and businesses, hire staff, but be prepared to take on a number of unpredictable catastrophes along the way.

“We’re grateful for the opportunities and support ID@Xbox provides to developers around the world,” says Joel Styles, Co-Founder and Director of Prideful Sloth.  “Their recent digital showcase and GDC showcase events both allowed us to demonstrate Go-Go Town! to the press and public, letting us share our game alongside other amazing indie titles from around the world. These experiences not only help in getting our game noticed but also allow us to connect more deeply with the Xbox community and media. Big thanks to ID@Xbox for their support and love of indies!”

Still Wakes The Deep by The Chinese Room (UK)

Horror meets the harsh tides of Scotland in Still Wakes the Deep, a first-person narrative adventure that sees you navigating a collapsing oil rig. Here, you’ll battle with reality and unforeseen carnage as you attempt to save your crew from the depths of the freezing, dark North Sea. The title is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC and Game Pass on June 18.

“As creators, we want as many people as possible to play and complete our game,” says Rob McLachlan, Lead Designer at The Chinese Room. “ID@Xbox has already given us the platform and support to bring Still Wakes the Deep to new audiences, which has meant we could take our time and focus on delivering the exact game we set out to make without compromises.”

    Nightscape by Mezan Studios (Qatar)

What happens when the sky loses its light? This is a query that Nightscape protagonist Layla asks, as she embarks on an enchanting journey to restore the stars. Layla will encounter puzzles and mysterious creatures as she explores a damaged, but atmospheric setting as she explores an ancient Arabian world.

“Our vision is to establish ourselves as a leading force in the game development landscape of the MENA region,” says Hamad K, Creative Director at Mezan Studios. “This ambition wouldn’t have been attainable without the invaluable trust and support extended by the remarkable team at ID@Xbox.

“Their genuine understanding of our objectives and empathetic engagement has been pivotal. Working with the Global Expansion Team not only facilitated our selection at Tribeca but also unlocked funding, mentorship opportunities, enhanced our credibility, and significantly boosted visibility for our debut project, Nightscape, which is currently under development. We are immensely excited and thankful to be on this transformative journey. Special shoutout to Chloé Giusti and Temi Afolabi who have been instrumental in getting us this far!”

Jump Ship by Keepsake Games (Sweden)

Take to the cosmos in Jump Ship, a mission-based PvE FPS where you’re in charge of your own spaceship. Spend time on the ship and get stuck into space battles or find a planet to land on and explore for those much-needed upgrades.

ID@Xbox gave us the opportunity to fully reveal our debut game,” says Filip Coulianos, Game Director at Keepsake Games. “We’re grateful that Xbox allowed us to showcase Jump Ship alongside other great indie titles, and cannot wait to reveal more as we approach the release.”

Botany Manor by Balloon Studios (UK)

Botany Manor is a serene puzzle game that already bloomed into Xbox Series X|S earlier this week. Spend your days on the estate of retired botanist Arabella Greene and her vast collection of rare and interesting plants. To restore the grounds to their former glory, you’ll need to uncover notes and items scattered around the grounds for tips and clues that’ll help you bring these long-forgotten plants to life again. A perfect game for green thumbs.

“For me personally, ID@Xbox gave me a huge confidence boost as creative director on Botany Manor,” says Laure De Mey, Founder of Balloon Studios. “Being part of Game Pass, being included in showcases and having Xbox’s continuous support felt incredibly validating, and allowed me to really believe in the core vision of the game.”

  • Everything You Need to Know About Rush Mode in Gigantic: Rampage Edition, Available Today

Everything You Need to Know About Rush Mode in Gigantic: Rampage Edition, Available Today

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

    Summary

    • Gigantic: Rampage Edition is the definitive release of the original 5v5 MOBA Hero Shooter, Gigantic — available now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One with crossplay support.
    • Rush Mode is a brand-new game mode that’s action-packed and fast-paced… get ready for non-stop action!
    • Find out what it takes to be an elite Rush Mode player thanks to the tips below.

The unique MOBA hero shooter, Gigantic, is making an epic comeback in a new definitive release, Gigantic: Rampage Edition – launching on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on April 9, 2024! Gigantic: Rampage Edition will bring everything from the original game and introduce a ton of new content, including a new game mode “Rush”, cross platform play, new heroes, new maps, and gameplay improvements that will give you an even bigger and more complete Gigantic experience than ever before.

To help you get ready for the new mode, Rush, we’re giving you a speed run-like overview of everything you should know about the mode before you jump into it! You ready? We’re ready, let’s do this!

Rush Mode is a quick, fun and exciting mode for all players

If you’ve played the original Gigantic, you know how Gigantic can be… well… gigantic! With Rush Mode, we wanted to streamline the experience and did just that by condensing all the things that make Gigantic great to create a more accessible, fast-paced, and action-packed mode that all players can enjoy.  When we say “fast-paced” we mean it, as Rush matches take just about 10 minutes to finish.

Before You Jump In: Play the Rush Tutorial, Find a Hero That’s Right for You, and Customize Your Experience

Gigantic: Rampage Edition comes with a ton of gameplay improvements compared to the original, including new tutorials to teach you the ins and outs of the game’s different modes, including Rush. We highly recommend playing at least the Rush tutorial in Rampage Edition, which will give you an excellent overview of what you need to know about the mode.

Once you wrap up the tutorial, you should then find a hero that’s right for you. In Gigantic: Rampage Edition there are 25 unique heroes to choose from, including two new heroes, Roland and Kajir, that weren’t in the original game. Each hero fits under a specific archetype and has their own distinct set of offensive and defensive capabilities, including their own “ultimate” abilities (called “Focus Skills” in-game.) Choosing a hero that fits your play style, whether you like to get up close and personal to take down enemies or take them down from a distance, is vital to increasing your chances of being victorious in matches.

After you’ve found a perfect hero for you, it’s then time to build and customize your loadout to match your playstyle! You can go with one of two predetermined builds, or you’d like to take a deeper dive into loadout creation, feel free to build your own when you’re ready. Having a loadout that works for you is important, but we can’t forget to mention that the most important part of choosing a hero… customizing it! As you make progress, you’ll be able to unlock and choose from a variety of hero and weapon skins and other customization options – and the best part is that you don’t need to spend a single penny to get anything, all of the content can be unlocked just by playing the game!

What’s neat about Rush compared to the existing mode Clash, aside from of course matches being lightning fast, is that you can change your hero mid-match, allowing you and your team to change strategies during matches. So, for instance, if you’re noticing the enemy team is just not giving you and your team any breathing room as they all are using melee DPS heroes against you, you can fight back by changing to a melee DPS hero yourself to go toe-to-toe with them. Knowing how and when to change heroes is important in Rush, but not only that, it’s also just a great way to learn how to use different heroes!

Another difference with Rush is heroes start at level 10, the max Hero level in the game. So, what that means is that you have access to all of a hero’s abilities from the get-go, making it even easier to get a feel for which hero is right for you. We highly recommend trying all abilities a hero has and figuring out what each ability does. Knowing the abilities in your arsenal is yet another way to being victorious!

Now you’re ready to GO GIGANTIC!

Now that you know all there is to know about Rush, we hope you’re ready to GO GIGANTIC and fight for victory when Gigantic: Rampage Edition  is available now Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One for $19.99. Oh, and if you have friends on other platforms, don’t sweat it – Rampage Edition will have crossplay support when it launches – giving you the opportunity to enjoy Rush Mode with friends no matter what platform they like to play on. With all that said, we’re excited to see you on the airship in Gigantic: Rampage Edition!

  • Starter Tips for Botany Manor, Your New Xbox Game Pass Puzzle Adventure

Starter Tips for Botany Manor, Your New Xbox Game Pass Puzzle Adventure

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

You haven’t played anything quite like Botany Manor, a new narrative puzzle adventure now blooming on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PCs, and Cloud. Playing as 19th century English botanist Arabella Greene, you explore a scenic manor, finding seeds of some very unusual plants and discovering how to make them flower and grow, filling up the pages of your Herbarium along the way.

Much of the game’s enjoyment comes from figuring out these horticultural headscratchers without assistance. But if you’re worried you’re becoming a bit of a late bloomer, allow me to plant the seeds of inspiration with a few spoiler-free tips to help you decipher these daffodils a bit faster.

    Every Document Matters

These plants’ very particular preferences mean that most puzzles require a precise answer. The little notes, newspaper clippings, and advertisements you find around the mansion will all help guide you in setting up growing conditions to make a specific plant happy – so read them! While many hints will seemingly have nothing to do with botany, like a book on English history or wind speeds in the Alps, all play a part in unlocking various locks and mechanisms to either manipulate the local environment or grant you greater access to the manor. There’s also an interesting story embedded in these notes, revealed through various correspondences with Arabella.

    Pick Up the Pace

Arabella’s leisurely gait may not be to your liking, especially as you’ll need to traipse back and forth throughout the manner to pick up certain items or to place a plant in just the right spot. To put some pep in her rather sluggish default step, hold down LB for a boost. Like… all the time. Even better, I recommend players activate Sprint Toggle in Accessibility settings to maintain that speedier pace. The game may be about plants, but there’s no need to remain rooted in place.

    Don’t Forget Your Map

It’s easy to get turned around in sprawling Greene Manor and its surrounding grounds, especially as you open up access to new parts of the property. If you remember passing by the Orchard, for instance, but forget exactly how to return, there’s a map for that! Press Y to bring up your Forgotten Flora book and tap LB to flip towards the front, where you’ll find handy, labeled maps of the manor’s interior and surrounding grounds, which handily auto update as you explore further into the game.

    Out of Order

While Botany Manor starts in a pretty straightforward manner, solving one floral mystery at a time and with materials and hints right in front of you, things don’t remain so easy. In later chapters, you will start to find clues for plants you may not yet have access to. If a hint or document seems unhelpful at the moment, don’t rack your brains trying to apply it to the plant at hand; it may make sense later. Keep moving, you can always come back as the game never locks you out once you’ve made it somewhere new.

    Sort Your Hints

Related: as the game progresses (chapter 3 and on), you’ll be collecting hints for multiple different flowers at once. It can be valuable at this point to pick up and read everything, then sort these hints in your book as you start to make sense of things. When all hints for a particular flower are found and correctly sorted, they’ll get satisfyingly inked into the page, and you’ll have a much better idea of what your next steps are and which hints can be ignored.  Even better, if you correctly place every hint in the Herbarium book, a succulent 100G achievement awaits!

Even with these hints, you’re sure to get stumped from time to time, but with a keen eye and some curiosity, you’ll complete Arabella’s Herbarium before you know it. Just keep planting! Botany Manor is available now with Game Pass on Cloud, Console, and PC – cue that download here.

  • Race at Brands Hatch in Forza Motorsport Update 7

Race at Brands Hatch in Forza Motorsport Update 7

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

Brands Hatch arrives alongside the Retro Racers Tour in Forza Motorsport Update 7. Download today!

Forza Motorsport Update 7 rolls out for download starting Monday, April 8 at 10:00 AM PT / 5:00 PM UTC on Xbox Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam.

Spotlight cars and new Career, Featured Multiplayer and Rivals events start on Wednesday, April 10 from 5:00 PM PT (12:00 AM UTC on Thursday, April 11). Update 7 will be live in the game for 5 weeks before Update 8 is released in mid-May. Update 8 will not include a track – our next track release is scheduled for Update 9, expected to be available in June.

    Game Improvements and Release Notes

Update 7 reduces the installation footprint of Forza Motorsport by around 15-20%, decreasing its file size by 25GB on Xbox Series X|S and 29GB on PC. To accommodate this optimization, today’s update will be slightly larger than usual at 15GB.

Update 7 also introduces new experience improvements to the game, including changes to Forza Race Regulations and Proximity Arrows, as well as fixes to Multiplayer and the Livery Editor, and Le Mans track.

Below is a snapshot of the fixes contained in Update 7. Head on over to Forza Support to find the full release notes for this version:

    • Fixed a PC stability issue where the player would encounter an infinite loading screen when selecting Design & Paint for a car that hasn’t been purchased. [1665348]

    • We’ve added new PC audio settings for sample rate and buffer size which can be adjusted to reduce CPU usage. [1652110]

    • Proximity arrows are now enabled for all players by default in Multiplayer.

    • Proximity arrows now angle themselves based on car world position relative to the player car and camera rather than screen-space projection, providing more accurate arrow directions especially in non-chase camera views. [1637283]

    • Added new uniform “Scale” and non-uniform “Stretch” tools to replace “Size.” These can be applied to individual decals or layer groups.

    • Fixed an issue where Shared Tunes were not appearing after the 8th tune in Search Results. [1663755]

    • Updates to numerous textures have been made on the Le Mans Full Circuit and Old Mulsanne Circuit to address various misplaced and low-resolution textures visible in multiple zones, including track signage and overpass inscriptions. [1723655]

This update introduces the Brands Hatch track to Career, Multiplayer, Free Play and Rivals.

Located a short drive from London, Brands Hatch is widely considered one of the most iconic sporting venues in Europe and has a rich history of hosting a variety of motorsport events, including the British Grand Prix.

Brands Hatch is also renowned for its challenging layout, with a combination of fast straights, tight corners, and elevation changes that make it a favorite among drivers and fans alike. Its first turn, the Paddock Hill Bend, sees cars diving downhill at high speed and then climbing back up into the tight hairpin turn called Druids.

The Grand Prix layout features three high speed corners called Hawthorns, Westfield and Sheene Curve which challenge drivers to be millimeter-accurate when choosing their turn in points on this relatively narrow circuit. Meanwhile, the Indy layout is a short 1.2-mile thrill ride which pairs perfectly with slower cars and grassroots events.

Get ready to race with three new deliveries coming to Car Pass holders in Update 7. These include the 2019 Ginetta G55 GT4, 1970 Matra-Simca #146 Equipe Matra-Simca MS650 Tour de France and 2016 Ligier #11 Euro international JS P3.

  • Hellblade: A Journey of the Mind – Tune In To A Special Live Event Exploring Senua’s Mental Health

Hellblade: A Journey of the Mind – Tune In To A Special Live Event Exploring Senua’s Mental Health

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

In Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice we set out to tell the story of a Celtic Warrior and her quest to save the soul of her lover – a quest that was both physical and mental, as an exploration of Senua’s experiences of psychosis.

On embarking on the development of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, we knew it would be critical that we understand in depth the subject matter before attempting to portray it. To gain an understanding of psychosis and what it can be like to experience it, we began what has become a close collaboration with experts by way of research and by way of lived-experience.

In the field of Neuroscience, Professor Paul Fletcher of the University of Cambridge has now been a close collaborator of the team for over 10 years. On the subject of lived-experience, we have partnered with the RCE Wellbeing Hub (formerly Recovery College East) to understand directly from people the impact psychosis and the attached stigma can have on people’s lives.

In Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, we explore the next chapter of Senua’s life and the next step on her mental health journey. While she has come to a place of acceptance with the voices she hears and the way she perceives the world, she is no longer alone on her quest. She will meet people in Iceland with their own belief systems, who may come to see her unique perspective as a beacon of hope, while others reject it. Just as we did in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice we have once again worked closely with our expert partners to bring Senua’s experience to life in a truthful way.

We’d like to invite you to hear more about this unique partnership and journey into the mind of Senua in a special live event on Tuesday April 9. This collaboration between Ninja Theory and Cambridge Neuroscience will explore the perspectives of both those who have experienced psychosis, and those who work to study and treat it. You will also hear from the Ninja Theory team who will expand upon how we applied these learnings to our games.

Hosted here in Cambridge, you can tune into the livestream at 14:00 BST / 09:00 ET / 06:00 PT Tuesday April 9 on Twitch, YouTube and Facebook. This collaboration has been a special privilege for us as a studio, which is why we’d love for you to tune in and hear first hand how it has shaped our journey into the mind, with Hellblade.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II launches on Xbox, PC and via Game Pass on May 21.

“We Have Another Story to Tell” – Why Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II is A Revolutionary Sequel

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

For Ninja Theory, the idea to continue Senua’s journey was never in doubt. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is a complete story in itself; but the studio knew it had more stories to tell. Studio Head Dom Matthews tells us that the team wanted to leave a door open for Senua, but the path to creating a follow-up was initially unclear while the studio remained independent. Now, as part of Xbox Game Studios, it’s quite a different story. This sequel feels larger than life; every single element has been refined, from its hyper-realistic environments, haunting audio design, to its stunning performance-captured combat.

    Embarking on a New Quest

“We have a fantastic building; our performance capture stage, new technologies and techniques, but all of that exists to pursue the same goal,” Matthews tells us. “That goal is to create an experience that allows players to suspend their disbelief and immerse themselves fully in this world.”

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II follows swiftly after the final events of the first game, where Senua says goodbye to her lover Dillion for the final time. From here, she’s to embark on a new quest, to ensure that no one ever meets the same fate as Dillion again. Senua is stronger, fiercer, and – while she’s still ailed by her psychosis – she’s come to understand how it manifests, and how its grown to be an important part of her.

“She’s come to a place of acceptance of two things,” Matthews tells us. “One is her experience of psychosis and unique view of the world, and the other is that she can’t bring Dillion back. So here, we find a Senua that has found determination, and a way to turn her agonizing grief into positive action, so that Dillion’s death wasn’t for nothing.”
