New Neighbors: Ant Queens and Your Decisions

The royal Ant Queens have arrived! These regal creatures are more than just a new face; they bring a new vibe to the backyard. When meeting them, it won’t be about ‚flexing your muscles‘ in combat but more about flexing your decision-making skills; it’s about choices and consequences – ally with them and gain powerful friends, betray them and brace for some severe ant-itude, or you can do the third option, which is [REDACTED]! These decisions echo across your entire experience, so choose your path wisely and watch your journey unfold with these new influential neighbors.

And the excitement doesn’t stop there – get ready for 12 new Ant Queen-inspired buildings, like the grand Ant Queen Chaises and Chandeliers as the ‚bench press‘ of ant architecture. Plus, for pet enthusiasts, there’s a heartwarming twist – the chance to adopt a baby ant pet. Remember, every choice in the ant world carries weight, shaping the relationships within this tiny, yet ‚mighty‘, kingdom.

    Backyard Adventures: Remixed!

Get ready to ‚lift‘ your adventure to new heights with our ‚New Game+‘ mode. After you conquer the mightiest of foes like the Broodmother and the Wasp Queen, you’ll unlock the REMIX.R, leading you to alternate dimensions with remixed challenges. Every playthrough is a unique experience with creatures appearing in new spots, more demanding bosses, and hidden secrets.

But beware – some creatures are infused with Raw Science, making them stronger, faster, and harder to fight. Overcome these challenges to collect special trinkets with unique properties. Plus, don’t miss out on the new ASL content, Milk Molars in randomized locations, and the all-important Yoking Station for that extra power boost in remixed yards.

Wrapping Up This Final Content Update

To help show you how Grounded is now beefier than ever, continue reading the patch notes below! The ‚Fully Yoked‘ update brings endless possibilities to your backyard escapades. The game has evolved in many ways, such as adding full Japanese VO for all players to check out. On top of that, the game can now be played on multiple platforms, including the newly added PlayStation 4|5 and Nintendo Switch. Now, players across all platforms can experience this Grounded: Fully Yoked edition of the final game, together.

Lastly, a huge thank you to our incredible community. Your support and passion have shaped Grounded into what it is today. As our last planned content update, we promise to keep refining and perfecting your experience in the game so you and your friends can play in the backyard.

Stay safe, and as always – stay Grounded!

Hey Grounded fans! We are proud to present to you the „Fully Yoked“ 1.4 update: the premiere Grounded experience swole with new content.

Each of the three ant colonies now has a royal leader residing deep within their respective hills. These new Ant Queens are not fightable bosses. They instead offer you a choice: either befriend or betray with a tasty offering. Which you choose affects the rewards you receive and how the colony reacts. Some choices have cascading effects that aren’t immediately apparent…

Next up, we’ve remixed your backyard! Introducing the New Game+ mode: a complete overhaul that adds layers of complexity and challenge. Instead of finishing the game, you will have the option to enter an alternate dimension via the new REMIX.R device. Each playthrough in this mode remixes the yard in a host of ways that will give you new challenges and rewards.

Accessing New Game+ requires defeating the Broodmother, Mantis, Wasp Queen, and completing the Javamatic fight. When entering this mode, all of your existing bases, items, recipes unlocks, etc. will carry over with you.

    New Game+ Features

    Infused Creatures

In Remixed backyards, creatures can be infused with the power of Raw Science. Not only do they have more health, do more damage, and attack faster, but they also have unique properties that make them extra challenging.

    New Trinkets

The good news is that infused creatures can drop special trinkets that are also infused with Raw Science. These new trinkets also have special randomized properties. Ominent Badges can be collected again, and have new properties, and every BURG.L Chip awards a new BURG.L Chip Trinket, they too will have randomized properties to give you more options on how to build your character.

    Yoking Station +10

The Yoking Station, available at the ASL in a remixed yard, allows you to upgrade your weapons to even more powerful levels. To upgrade your weapons, you will need to find new materials and resources only found in remixed yards.

Slurp the Core with More Molars

Molars can be gathered once more, and you will need to continue to collect them to stay as swole as the creatures of the yard. In a remixed yard, the molars are now in new, randomized locations.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases Local Legend 15: The Dornier Do 31

Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases Local Legend 15: The Dornier Do 31

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

Microsoft Flight Simulator pilots can now fly one of aviation’s greatest icons of innovation.

    A MONUMENT OF AVIATION INGENUITY

The Dornier Do 31 is a jet-powered, vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), experimental military aircraft developed by the West German aviation manufacturer and historically renowned as the only jet-powered VTOL utility / transport aircraft ever created and flown. Although Dornier only produced three experimental prototypes and never entered serial production, the Do 31 remains an enduring monument of aerospace ingenuity.

    BORN OF COLD WAR IMPERATIVE

The distinctive Do 31 was born out of an ambitious Cold War initiative by the West German military to create an eminently resilient air force. An initial attack by the Soviet Bloc focused on air bases and runways throughout
West Germany, grounding their airplanes. To counter this threat, the West Germans hatched a plan in the early 1960s to create a new air force composed primarily of jet-powered VTOL aircraft. Such airplanes could operate out of traditional air bases, expeditionary airfields, or roads and highways, including Autobahns—any small stretch of concrete or asphalt would work.

The West German military’s plan included three VTOL aircraft: a fighter / interceptor: the EWR VJ 101; a surface attack platform: the VFW VAK-191B; and a large utility aircraft that could transport troops and cargo.

    AN ENGINEERING MARVEL

While helicopters had proven their utility by the early 1960s, especially for military operations, they were limited in both speed and lift ability. Developing a jet-powered transport aircraft, however, presented engineers
with tremendous hurdles like generating and directing adequate thrust to vertically lift an aircraft, transitioning it to horizontal flight, and then landing it vertically.

By the early 1960s, companies interested in jet-powered VTOL aircraft operation had proven the concept could work with experimental models. The Short SC.1, developed by United Kingdom aviation company Short Brothers, took its maiden flight on May 26, 1958. The Short SC.1 was followed by the first flight of the British Hawker Siddeley P.1127, the progenitor to the Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the world’s first production VTOL fighter / attack jet. Both were engineering breakthroughs that took years of development. The transport aircraft the West German military envisioned would be much larger, dramatically increasing the complexity. Dornier, famed for their flying boats and airliners, undertook the ambitious challenge in February, 1962, when the company and the West German military formally launched the project, designated the Do 31.

While Dornier had never built a VTOL aircraft, the company’s engineers had gained experience with short take-off and landing (STOL) exercises with their Do 29. That airplane, which took its maiden flight in late 1958, was an experimental, twin-engine, piston-powered, high-wing monoplane that used tilting engine-propeller systems to boost lift for take-off. The jet powered Do 31, intended to carry up to 36 combat loaded troops, 7,700 pounds of cargo, or some combination thereof, proved far more complex. It required the company to develop some of the most advanced aviation technology to that point in history including novel powerplant designs, high-strength airframe componentry, and an innovative flight control computer.

Dornier built three airframes with a group designation Do 31 E (“E” for “Experimental”): the Do 31 E1, the Do 31 E2, and the Do 31 E3. The E1 and the E3 were flying prototypes, while the E2 was a ground-based testbed.

The Do 31 featured a high-mounted main wing, a cruciform empennage, a capacious fuselage with a ramp-loading cargo system, and retractable tricycle landing gear. Its primary power source: two Rolls-Royce Pegasus BE.53/2 turbofan engines, each of which could produce up to 15,500 pounds of thrust. Each Pegasus was housed in a nacelle, one under each side of the main wing, and thrust from each was directed through four rotating exhaust ports called thrust vectoring nozzles. For complementary thrust and redundancy purposes—should one of the Pegasus engines fail mid-flight—Dornier crafted wingtip-mounted secondary thrust systems. Each wingtip featured a nacelle that housed four vertically oriented Rolls-

Royce RB-162-4D turbojet engines; each engine could generate up to 4,400 pounds of thrust, for a total of 17,600 pounds of thrust per wingtip. In total, the Do 31 was powered by ten engines capable of an aggregate 66,200 pounds of thrust. Only a few other aircraft in history have comprised ten or more engines, including Dornier’s Do X, a flying boat that was powered by 12 piston engines.

To provide control of the Do 31 throughout all its flight regimes, Dornier developed an extremely critical hybrid analog-digital computer, the DO-960. The aircraft simply would be too unstable to function without an adequate flight computer that could continuously solve a series of complex equations to maintain controlled flight. Digital computer technology and integrated circuit design were still in their infancy at this point and not fast enough to perform the specific types of solutions necessary (the microprocessor had yet to be developed). Dornier engineers solved this immense challenge by devising a novel computer system that fused aspects of analog calculation with components of digital computation.

The DO-960 maintained aircraft stability by taking pilot inputs and controlling flight surfaces, power output of each of the aircraft’s ten engines, the orientation of its thrust vector nozzles, and amount of bleed air ducted to nozzles in the aircraft’s tail. The Do 31 lifted off and hovered with downward-vectored thrust from the Pegasus engines combined with thrust from its wingtip turbojets. It then transitioned to horizontal flight through the rearward rotation of the main engine’s thrust vector nozzles.

The DO-960 remains one of history’s most notable computer developments and a brilliant example of technological innovation born of necessity. Although hidden within the confines of the unique aircraft’s form, the computer was one of the Do 31’s most crucial, and notable, features.

    A NEW BREED TAKES FLIGHT

After years of development and ground testing, the Do 31 took its maiden flight in early 1967. The first prototype of the airframe, the Do 31 E1, lifted off on February 10, 1967, powered by just its two main engines. In July of 1967, the Do 31 E3 took to the sky using all ten of its engines and performed a hover. The aircraft flew increasingly complex and advanced operations during successive tests in the months that followed including moving backward while hovering and rolls while in horizontal flight. The demonstrations marked not just the initial flights of a new aircraft, but the first operation of an entirely new breed of aircraft, a jet-powered VTOL transport. The Do 31 wowed spectators at airshows and set several flight records for its class—of which it was the only member.

Despite the successes and prospects for commercial adoption in addition to military roles, the Do 31 was abandoned in the early 1970s. The concept of a jet-powered VTOL Air Force proved too costly and complex to implement. It remains the first and only jet-powered VTOL transport ever to fly.

Piloted by two, the Do 31 had a range of 1,120 miles, a service ceiling of 35,100 feet above sea level, and climbed at a rate of 3,780 feet per minute. The aircraft cruised at 348 miles per hour with a top speed of 377 mph.

NOW AVAILABLE FOR MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR PILOTS

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Dornier Do 31 has been expertly recreated for aviators to enjoy throughout the world. Experience the thrill of lifting off vertically, transitioning to high-speed forward flight, and then coming to a
hover with precision in this masterpiece of aviation technology. The sky is calling!

The Dornier Do 31 offers seven liveries: E1 Experimental, E3 Experimental, Olive Green, Green Camouflage, Marine Search & Rescue, Xbox Aviators Club, and Aviators Club. It is available today for $14.99.

  • How the Legendary Kombatant Ermac Made His Grand Return in Mortal Kombat 1

How the Legendary Kombatant Ermac Made His Grand Return in Mortal Kombat 1

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

    Summary

    • Ermac joins the Mortal Kombat 1 roster today as part of the early access period for Kombat Pack owners, followed by wide availability on April 23.
    • For Mortal Kombat 1, NetherRealm wanted to further evolve the visual presentation of Ermac by leaning heavily into certain horror inspirations.
    • You can pick up the Mortal Kombat 1: Kombat Pack here on the Xbox Store.

On the way to the cafeteria at the NetherRealm Studios offices, we have a large poster of Ermac hanging on the wall. Seeing it often reminds me how far he has evolved over the years. Back in the early days before the Internet, rumors often ran rampant about him and drove all kinds of speculation, particularly in the arcades. In the first Mortal Kombat arcade game, there was a diagnostic called ERMACS short for “Error Macro” that appeared underneath the number of “Reptile Appearances” and “Reptile Battles,” and it was therefore assumed by sleuthing fans that there must be a hidden character in the game. Over time, these rumors had taken on a life of their own and wound up being the catalyst to Ermac’s eventual creation and inclusion as a playable fighter in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

    Mortal Kombat Ermac Screenshot

Since the character’s arrival, Ermac has always been a vessel for souls and would use these souls to manipulate their energy for his own devious purposes. For Mortal Kombat 1, we wanted to further evolve the visual presentation of Ermac by leaning heavily into certain horror inspirations, and then explore the idea that Ermac has been haunted by unique souls he has captured throughout his existence. The collective of tortured souls include: the Witch, the Old Woman, the Monster, and the Soldier, each one playing a key role throughout Ermac’s move set. For Ermac’s classic Lift special move, the Witch’s soul bursts outward from Ermac to lift the opponent and slam them to the ground. The idea that these unique souls manifest themselves throughout his attacks is a common theme we wanted to showcase.

    Mortal Kombat Ermac Screenshot

To me, one of the most compelling aspects to the design and implementation of Ermac was the challenge he presented to us. The last time we saw Ermac in a Mortal Kombat game as a playable fighter was in Mortal Kombat X, and we are lightyears ahead in terms of our capabilities from a visual perspective since then. For us, this meant an opportunity to evolve the look of his soul energy to create intricate visual effects-based attacks that help sell the unique telekinesis power he possesses. The inherent challenge is to ensure the visual elements are impactful, blend well with the gameplay elements, and are readable to the player. This is something the design and visual effects teams are constantly iterating on.

    Mortal Kombat Ermac Screenshot

Gameplay wise, Ermac stands out as a character with interesting combo potential and routes, especially from the air. In terms of special moves, he employs a variety of his mainstay special attacks as well as new additions for Mortal Kombat 1. One of the main design goals was to evolve and showcase his classic attacks in a distinctive way while at the same time creating new special moves that both serve his gameplay plan while giving players a fresh experience. For instance, Ermac can still perform his Teleport attack but can now initiate it from either the air or ground then cancel it into an air or ground version just before he teleports acting as a mind game with options for different setups.

    Mortal Kombat Ermac Screenshot

One of his new special moves is a Mana Shield where one of his souls creates a shield around him whereby incoming damage depletes his super meter instead of his health. Additionally, he has another new attack where he violently ejects souls upward, capable of launching the opponent and allowing Ermac to dash cancel out of. Lastly, one of my personal favorites and something players will want to check out is a brutality we created off Ermac’s Lift special move, which is a clear nod to his telekinesis Fatality from Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.

    Mortal Kombat Ermac Screenshot

Working on klassic characters for a new Mortal Kombat game is almost a sacred responsibility, let alone one of the ninjas. I joined the team many years ago for the first Injustice game and I will always remember the surreal moment working on Scorpion attacks for the first time. This responsibility is a sentiment shared by everyone on the team. We are all very pleased to bring Ermac back in Mortal Kombat 1 and hope players enjoy playing him as much as the team did working on him.

  • Spinning Blades and Brutal Mayhem: New Weapons for Dead Island 2’s SOLA Expansion

Spinning Blades and Brutal Mayhem: New Weapons for Dead Island 2’s SOLA Expansion

    Reading Time: 9 minutes

    Summary

    • Two new legendary weapons will be introduced with Dead Island 2’s second expansion.
    • The Ripper resurrects a Dead Island classic, while the Saw Blade Launcher amps up ranged combat.
    • Dead Island 2 SOLA expansion to launched on April 17, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S.

Dead Island 2’s upcoming SOLA expansion introduces a whole new area and storyline set around the ultimate California festival. But when the mosh pit’s crowded with zombies and the backstage is a bloodbath, you know you’re going to need new tools to clean up the mess.

Luckily, SOLA packs in two new legendary weapons, giving you even more ways to slice, dice, disembowel, decapitate, and dismember your decomposing zombie foes.

Dead Island 2 players will be familiar with F.L.E.S.H., the game’s brutally ingenious procedural damage system, which enables limbs to be lopped off, skulls crushed, and organs splattered in spectacularly gory style. The two new legendaries are a love letter to F.L.E.S.H, taking the carnage to a whole new level.

    Crafting the Ripper

Long-term fans of the series will be delighted to see the return of the mighty Ripper, repurposed as a flagship weapon. “It’s a homage to the weapon upgrade from the first Dead Island,” explains Dambusters’ Combat Game Designer Haris Iqbal. “But from our end, we wanted to give it that Dead Island 2 signature appeal.”

    Dead Island 2 SOLA Weapon

The team evolved the original concept of a baseball bat, augmented it with a spinning blade, and made it into the ultimate machine for cutting through an undead mob. “Ultimately, we want to add to all the gore-filled spectacle with our new legendaries,” says Iqbal. “But also make sure that every weapon, especially the legendaries, feels like its got its own interesting micro-mechanics and loops.”

    Dead Island 2 SOLA Weapon

With the Ripper, that means a weapon that feels like a bat when you first start swinging, but with a blade that keeps revving up, spinning faster and faster until you’re pulling off impossibly gory kills and finishers.

It not only gives you a new way to engage with the game’s brutal melee combat, but also a new way to showcase what the F.L.E.S.H. system can do, delivering the kind of ultra-violent slapstick that’s so core to Dead Island 2’s appeal.

    Building the Saw Blade Launcher

The second weapon is the Saw Blade Launcher, a multi-functional ranged weapon that fires out industrial sawblades capable of tearing through a mob of walkers and cutting the toughest apex zombies down to size.

    Dead Island 2 SOLA Weapon

“It’s a very fresh weapon for us,” says Iqbal. “We’re taking the ranged weapon in a different direction this time around. We really wanted to emphasize the F.L.E.S.H. system and let players play around with it a whole lot more.”

To this end, slayers can fire out the deadly, saw-toothed discs either one at a time, or charge all their shots and release them in a single burst – perfect for wrecking multiple flesh-munching menaces or chopping through the limbs of the tougher brutes.

    Dead Island 2 SOLA Weapon

“We’re giving players more options with a single weapon,” Iqbal notes. “With previous ranged weapons, you could shoot off limbs. But with the sawblade launcher, we really wanted to make it much easier to do. It gives you a new way to interact with the F.L.E.S.H sandbox and, besides, it’s just fun to use.”

    Time to mix it up

“We really try to look at the player’s fantasies,” adds Lead Game Designer Matt Abbott. “These new weapons might be a bit more potent moment to moment than we’re usually comfortable with, but how can we put in the mechanics to give players that kind of pinnacle fantasy without it being too easy? They can charge up multiple blades then fire them out, and chop a zombie clean in half!”

What’s more, the new weapons encourage players to mix things up and explore different ways to slay. “Each weapon feels like it’s got a play style you might want to lean into as well, to get the most out of it,” says Abbott; Iqbal agrees. “It’s always about promoting varied attacks, and allowing players to really engage with each weapon, moment to moment.”

The team can’t wait to see how you make use of the new legendaries or the other weapons waiting in the new expansion. “I think it’s always cool to see the brutal creativity of our players, and see what they’re doing,” says Iqbal. “I know there are dedicated players who spend hours hacking away at zombies with different weapons just to see how far they can push the system. That excites us and inspires us to keep pushing and give them something fresh.”

Dead Island 2’s second expansion, SOLA, will launch April 17, 2024, for Xbox Series X|S. It’s also included with the Gold Edition and the Dead Island 2 Expansion Pass.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases City Update 06: Southwest Germany

Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases City Update 06: Southwest Germany

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

This latest update invites Microsoft Flight Simulator aviators to experience the allure of the cities of southwest Germany’s Baden-Württemberg state.

Southwest Germany is the latest exciting enhancement to Microsoft Flight Simulator’s immersive global experience with City Update 06. This update focuses on the Southwest German state of Baden-Württemberg, the nation’s third largest state in both population and area. The Microsoft Flight Simulator team and its partners selected seven cities that best represent this diverse and vibrant region of Europe: Mannheim, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Esslingen, and Kehl in Germany, and the French city of Strasbourg, which lies just across the border from Kehl. The update also features Friedrichshafen Airport, Baden-Württemberg’s third largest airport.

Baden-Württemberg is one of Europe’s most geographically diverse regions. The state encompasses the famed Black Forest, rivers such as the Rhine, the Danube (including its source), and the Neckar, several lakes including Lake Constance, and rich farmland and vineyards. Its cities rank as some of the most prosperous and vibrant in all of Europe and include a juxtaposition of modern architectural marvels and centuries-old historic monuments.

The carefully selected cities of City Update 06 have been recreated using the latest high resolution aerial imagery and feature high fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface modeling.

In detail, from north to south:

    Mannheim

Mannheim is located at the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers at the far northern end of the state. The city, the second most populous in Baden-Württemberg, is an important center of culture, education, and commerce, and boasts 23 universities and 30 research institutions. The Mannheim region is the location of the development of some of the modern world’s most important inventions. These include the bicycle, the modern production automobile (Benz Patent Motor Car), and the first rocket-powered aircraft (Opel RAK.1).

Sights abound from the air over Mannheim, including the Mannheim Water Tower, the Mannheim Baroque Palace, and Fernmeldeturm Mannheim, a telecommunications tower.

    Heidelberg

Heidelberg is located eleven miles southeast of Mannheim along the banks of the Neckar River. It lies at the southwestern edge of the Odenwald mountain range on the eastern edge of the Upper Rhine Plain. The city is internationally recognized as a center of education and is home to Heidelberg University, Germany’s oldest university, founded in 1386, and one of the world’s most celebrated. The city is also home to several research facilities, including four Max Planck Institutes. Heidelberg is also famous for the arts, notably literature.

Heidelberg features several stunning architectural feats like Heidelberg Castle, Church of the Holy Spirit, and Old Bridge Heidelberg.

    Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe is located along the Rhine on the northern edge of the Black Forest near the French border. It is the seat of the German Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice. The city, the third most populous in Baden-Württemberg, has a unique layout comprising 32 streets radiating from a central palace tower that resembles a fan from above.

Set amid the stunning surroundings of the Black Forest and the Rhine, Karlsruhe is also home to some unforgettable architectural creations. These include the Karlsruhe Palace, Karlsruhe Botanical Gardens, and the State Museum of Baden.

    Stuttgart

Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg and the most populous city is located near the middle of Baden-Württemberg along the Neckar River amid expansive plains, low hills, and swaths of forest. The city is a renowned center for the automotive industry and is home to the headquarters of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and several other industry giants. The city is also a global center of science and academic research and boasts eleven universities.

Stuttgart offers incredible vistas from the air like the New Palace, MHPArena, and the Stuttgart TV Tower.

    Esslingen

Esslingen is located seven miles to the south of Stuttgart along the Neckar River. Rich in history, the city dates to at least the Roman Empire. Esslingen began to flourish in the early Middle Ages and witnessed extensive expansion.

Surrounded by forested hills and vineyards, Esslingen is one of the most picturesque cities in Germany. It is home to hundreds of historic buildings including Esslinger Castle, the Inner Bridge, and Church of Our Lady.

    Kehl and Strasbourg, France

Kehl, the small town in western Baden-Württemberg on the Rhine River, lies on the Germany-France border and neighbors the larger French city of Strasbourg. With the Black Forest to its east and patchworks of agricultural fields to its north and south, the sights abound from above Kehl. Strasbourg and Kehl have strong historic ties. Strasbourg incorporated Kehl in 1678 and transformed it into a fortress. The ties endured the subsequent centuries and the two remain intimately related.

Strasbourg is a major international city and the seat of several important European institutions, including the European Parliament, the European Ombudsman of the European Union, and Eurocorps. Incredible sights throughout Strasbourg including the Strasbourg Cathedral, Place Kléber, and the Strasbourg Opera House.

    Friedrichshafen Airport (EDNY)

Friedrichshafen Airport (EDNY), also called Bodensee Airport Friedrichshafen, is an international facility located on the northeastern periphery of the German city of Friedrichshafen that lies less than two miles inland of the north shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee), one of Europe’s largest lakes.

Friedrichshafen is world renowned as one of the most important cities in the history of aviation. German airship pioneer Ferdinand von Zeppelin’s LZ 1, the world’s first successful rigid airship, took to the sky from a floating hangar on nearby Lake Constance in July of 1900. In 1908, von Zeppelin founded Luftschiffbau Zeppelin (Zeppelin Airship Company) in Friedrichshafen. The company manufactured a long line of well-known Zeppelin airships, including LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin. In addition, several other companies with aviation roots based their operations in Friedrichshafen, including ZF Friedrichshafen, Maybach, and Dornier, known for iconic flying boats
including the Dornier Do J Wal and the Dornier Do X. In 1915, an airfield was established in Friedrichshafen as a base for airships and one of Germany’s first airplane runways was constructed in 1918.

Friedrichshafen Airport is adjacent to the location of the annual AERO Friedrichshafen, one of Europe’s key general aviation conventions. The airport was hand reproduced for Microsoft Flight Simulator by iniBuilds to celebrate the launch of this update.

City Update 06: Southwest Germany is available FREE to all Microsoft Flight Simulator simmers. Ensure that your simulator is running version 1.36.2.0 (or a more recent version), download City Update 06, and explore the incredible sights of Baden-Württemberg’s cities!

Microsoft Flight Simulator is available for Xbox Series X|S and PC with Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, Windows, and Steam, and on Xbox One and supported mobile phones, tablets, and lower-spec PCs via Xbox Cloud Gaming. • Drill Into the Competition in Overwatch 2 – Season 10

Drill Into the Competition in Overwatch 2 – Season 10

    Reading Time: 7 minutes

As we dig into Season 10 of Overwatch 2, we’re thrilled to introduce our newest hero, Venture. We also have a first look at our new game mode, Clash, and updates to how you acquire new Heroes. So, get ready to embark on an epic excavation of greatness!

You Can’t Spell Adventure without Venture

Break ground with the newest Damage hero, Venture, a spirited archaeologist who channels their passion for history into daring acts of heroism. Armed with a massive drill and an arsenal of seismic abilities, Venture brings a fresh dynamic to the battlefield (and underneath it). Outwit your adversaries and unearth victory as you dive, dig, drill, and deliver massive damage in the process.

Harnessing the power of their Smart Excavator, Venture primarily launches unstable seismic energy that explodes, and deals burst damage. With their Burrow ability, they can become invulnerable underground while gathering momentum for a calculated ambush upon re-emergence. Then use Drill Dash to dash forward to make some space as you knock opponents back. When you’re ready to totally obliterate anyone foolish enough to be in your path, Venture can unleash a massive shockwave with their Tectonic Shock Ultimate. Whether you’re traversing a covert subterranean path or bursting out to engage in close-quarter combat, Venture offers versatile gameplay that will wreak havoc on your adversaries.

Dig Into the Battle with Venture and All Overwatch Heroes Right Away

We want every player to be able to experience all the excitement that each hero has to offer. So, starting with Venture, all past, present, and future heroes will be unlocked immediately for everyone who has completed their new player experience. Also, since Venture got some fantastic field experience from their Hero Trial, we’ve made some adjustments to their kit, and we’re thrilled to share that we’ll be releasing Venture into Competitive right away when Season 10 begins tomorrow.

This is a pretty major change from past heroes, but we’ve always wanted to allow new heroes into Competitive when a new season for Overwatch 2 launches. In the past, we wanted to make sure new heroes were free of any bugs or outstanding balance issues, as well as giving players enough time to unlock a hero from the Battle Pass. Because of the recent hero trial, and now unlocking all heroes, we’re confident Venture is ready to jump into the action right away. So, Venture forth and break some ground – all of it.

Wreck and Roll with Hero Updates

Wrecking Ball is rolling onto the scene with a few new upgrades to his kit. Wrecking Ball can now protect his teammates as you dive into the enemy lines and use Adaptive Shield, providing the option to transfer some of the additional shield health to nearby allies. Grappling Claw gets a new upgrade for greater control as you swing: now you can press primary fire while the claw is attached to the map terrain and retract Wrecking Ball for additional mobility. Lastly, Grappling Claw’s cooldown has been adjusted to be partially refunded if you don’t reach fireball speeds.

    Wrecking_Ball_OW2small.png

We also have a variety of other balance changes coming this season. Sombra and Tracer have been powerful picks since we introduced our core gameplay updates last season, so we’re toning down their kits. Sombra’s virus will have less damage dealt over time to help compensate for the initial burst damage, and Tracer’s Pulse bomb will now be more difficult to land on targets to level the field a bit when playing against her. Going into this season, many of our Tanks will receive small buffs to give heroes like Reinhardt more impact with abilities like Earthshatter. Finally, we’re shifting the power between damage and healing for some of our support heroes, including Moira and Illari, along with providing some buffs for Lifeweaver to better tune his kit.  Check out these changes in detail in our Patch Notes preview on the forums.

    Updates to Competitive and More

We’ve got some major updates for Competitive Play – first up, you can now unlock any Golden Weapon with 2024 Competitive Points. Note you can’t spend the balance of your Legacy Competitive Points with your 2024 Points when redeeming for any Golden Weapon Variant though.

We’re making it easier for friends to play together in Competitive by removing grouping restrictions. Groups that have widely varied skill levels will be placed in a “Wide Group.” These Wide Groups will only ever play against other Wide Groups, meaning your matches may be a little sillier, take longer to queue, and you will receive less gains and losses to your rank after games. Solo players will never encounter wide groups.

Defense Matrix is getting an update, with new leaver penalty updates for both Unranked and Competitive modes. Finally, Streamer Protect now includes server-side features to hide your name from teammates and opponents in your games, instead of just covering your name in your own game client. Learn more about grouping restrictions, disruptive play mitigation, and other future updates in our recent Developer Update and our Defense Matrix blog.

Fair and fun competitive play is a priority for our team, and we will continue to upgrade our Defense Matrix to mitigate disruptive play.

Start your adventure and drill into the competition with this exciting new chapter in Overwatch 2. Log on tomorrow and unearth greatness in Season 10 firsthand. See you on (or underneath) the battlefield, heroes!

Xbox Insider Release Notes Have a New Home!

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

We’ve teased it a few times in our monthly Community Updates, but the time is officially upon us. Starting today, all Xbox Insider release notes will be migrating from our blog here on the Xbox Wire to the Xbox Support website! This change has been in the works for some time, and we’re so excited to finally be launching. Not only will this shift be a more cohesive user experience by having all Xbox ecosystem release notes in one place, but it will also free up space to allow us to produce more (different! new!) content on the blog itself. We have big plans for the coming months, so stay tuned for more info!

But what does this mean for all of you Xbox Insiders? Well, you can still expect the same fantastic preview update coverage for both console and PC, just in a different place. The individual release notes will be familiar territory for those that watch our social media, but they’ve been given a slightly new look.

We’ve also made sure that the release notes are categorized in an easy-to-navigate, historical point of record, that makes finding older version information much easier. It all starts with the new Xbox Insider Home.

From this hub, you can find links to both the console release notes directory, as well as for PC. Let’s take a quick look at the console flow, called: Xbox Update Preview.

Upon clicking in, you’ll be met with the “Console Browse” page that allows you to select which preview ring you’d like to look up. We’ve got the invite, so let’s pick Alpha. (Note: PC Gaming Preview doesn’t have the same ring system that console does (…for now), so PC users will proceed directly to the next page type.)

On each ring page, you will find a few notes about the ring itself and some helpful links for reporting any issues to our Xbox Insider team. You’ll also find the historical list of all release notes dating back to the beginning of 2024. Let’s click into last week’s update. (Note: A few rings will be missing some pre-April release notes at launch. These will be uploaded in the next few weeks.)

We’ve made it full circle. If you want to go back to any of the previous pages we’ve mentioned so far, you can quickly navigate there using the “Related topics” section on the right-hand side of the screen.

We hope that you enjoy this new release notes experience on the Xbox Support website. It’s the first of a few different improvements we have in the pipeline to deliver robust, informative updates to our Xbox Insiders. If you have any thoughts, comments, or suggestions, feel free to let us know over @xboxinsiders on Twitter/X; or, pop by r/XboxInsiders.

    System

    • Various stability and performance fixes.
    • Various updates to properly reflect local languages across the console.

    Known Issues

While known issues may have been listed in previous Xbox Insider Release Notes, they are not being ignored! However, it may take Xbox engineers more time to find a solution. If you experience any of these issues, we ask that you please follow any guidance provided and file feedback with Report a Problem.

    Audio

    • Some users have reported experiencing intermittent audio issues across the dashboard, games, and apps.
      • Troubleshooting: If you do experience issues, please confirm your TV and all other equipment have the latest firmware installed. If you are unsure, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance. You can also find additional troubleshooting tips here: Troubleshoot audio on your Xbox console.
      • Feedback: If you continue to experience issues after applying the latest firmware and troubleshooting further, please submit feedback via Report a Problem when you are experiencing the issue. Use the “Reproduce with advanced diagnostics” option, then select the category “Console experiences” and “Console Audio Output Issues”.
        • Note: Be sure to include as much information as possible about the issue, when it started, your setup, troubleshooting you have completed, and any additional information that will help us reproduce the issue.

    Controllers

    • We are aware the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 paddles are remaining active when there is no active profile, and we are working on a fix.
      • Workaround: Temporarily, you can create a new profile in the Xbox Accessories app with the paddles unmapped, then assign it to a profile slot to use. Alternatively, detaching the paddles when not in use may be an option.
    • We are investigating an issue impacting 3.5mm joysticks used with the Xbox Adaptive Controller.

    Networking

    • We are investigating reports of an issue where the console may not connect to the network immediately on boot. If you experience this, be sure to report the issue via Report a Problem as soon as you’re able.
      • Workaround: Wait a minute or two for the connection to establish. If your console still hasn’t connected, restart your Xbox from the Power Center or the guide then file feedback with Report a Problem. Learn more about restarting here: How to restart or power cycle your Xbox console.

    Parties & Chats

    • We are aware some users are experiencing issues with party chat and hearing one another, and we are working on a fix.
      • Workaround: Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then navigate to Parties & chats > open the party > Options > then toggle Switch to game chat on and off a couple times.
        • If you are still having trouble, leave the party, and try starting the party from Home before launching a game.
        • If the issue persists, restart your console from the Power Center or the guide then try again.

As always, be sure to use Report a problem to keep us informed of any issues you encounter. We may not be able to respond to everyone, but the data we’ll gather is crucial to finding a resolution.

  • Climb for Victory in Isonzo’s Ascent Game Mode, Available until April 24

Climb for Victory in Isonzo’s Ascent Game Mode, Available until April 24

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

Have you ever climbed a mountain? With WW1 technology… while under fire? That’s your mission in the special Ascent game mode for our WW1 Italian Front FPS game Isonzo, which is out now! This will be the first time players can join one of our extraordinary WW1 events on Xbox – an important part of our recent console enhancements, which also include the introduction of voice chat.

The time-limited Ascent event comes with climbing mechanics, rock throwing, and a whole new map recreating the Marmolada cliffside. Italian mountaineers must scale the mountain and evict the Austro-Hungarian defenders – a truly epic task.

The Ascent map is a section of vertical cliff, with an Austro-Hungarian command post at the top. A number of small ledges and caves provide checkpoints for the Italian Alpini on their way up, where forward spawn points can be constructed. Unfortunately, the Austro-Hungarian defenders begin the battle already occupying those positions, and will need to be evicted before the Italians can progress safely.

    Climbing Technique in Ascent

Climbing in Ascent is freeform – just approach the cliffside and start climbing. If there isn’t too much of an overhang, you can choose your own path up the mountain. Moving sideways is slower than going up or down though, so plan your route carefully. Speed isn’t the only consideration though, because this isn’t a fun climb on a winter holiday. Your enemies will be shooting and throwing rocks at you, so it’s worth experimenting to discover the safest routes up, that avoid exposing you any more than necessary.

    Isonzo climbing

Remember that Isonzo is a team game, and climbing is no exception. On your way up, you can place pitons into the rock. Place two pitons close enough to each other and they’ll be connected by a rope, which will speed up everyone who follows in your wake. It takes a few moments to hammer in the pitons though, so try to find somewhere at least a little sheltered to do it. At the end of the day climbing is a dangerous business and sometimes, you just have to trust to luck and take a chance. Fortune favors the brave!

    Defender Challenges

It might seem like the defenders have an easier job, but there are still challenges from fighting in such extreme terrain. Shooting down at climbers will often leave you silhouetted against the sky and exposed to fire from Italian marksmen below you. Trying to maintain an overview of the situation when climbers can appear from almost anywhere isn’t a simple job. It’s also important to remember that only the command post objective matters for victory, every ledge and cave is only an intermediate point that makes it easier to get to the top. Fixate too much on holding your current position and the Alpini might climb right past you to conquer a forward spawn point further up the mountainside.

Luckily you have a secret weapon: the humble rock. Grab one from the rock piles scattered around and you can throw it down at enemies below you. There’s skill involved to be a master rock thrower, because rocks have simulated physics and will bounce off the mountainside on their way down – or off unfortunate climbers. You can control the angle and power of your throw to allow for gentle rolls off the cliff edge or more aggressive directed attacks. One of the big advantages of the rocks is that you don’t have to move right up to the edge to use them, keeping you safe from Italian gunfire.

    Isonzo mountainside

Real Life Inspirations for Climbing Mechanics

Unlike the other maps in Isonzo which are based on specific battles, Ascent is intended to represent the many different climbs made during the First World War on the Italian Front. Some of these daring missions have been written about, and many more are lost to history. In the harsh Alpine environment climbing was dangerous even without an enemy shooting at you, and many soldiers were killed or wounded by accidents, avalanches, or other consequences of the cold, like frostbite.

One of the inspirations was a climb made by two Alpini called Ugo Vallepiana and Giuseppe Gaspard. These two veterans made many ascents during the war, including one attempting to move some heavy weaponry up to a ledge overlooking a well defended Austro-Hungarian position called the Castelletto. During this climb, Gaspard lost his footing and fell, only surviving because of the great fortune to land in a thick snowbank. The pair continued on, and came under fire from the Austro-Hungarian defenders, with Gaspard being shot in the arm. They were even shot at by artillery, with both shrapnel and blasted fragments of rock raining down on them.

    Other Updates

The release also goes live alongside other improvements to the game, including voice chat! Additionally, for those who want more options for visual customization of their character, the Altitude Units Pack DLC is releasing alongside the free Ascent event and contains high-altitude uniforms for Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops. Where our previously released Glacial Units Pack focused on more improvised cold weather clothing, the Altitude Units Pack provides uniforms from well prepared soldiers geared up for the worst possible conditions.

That means plenty of scarves, gloves, balaclavas, and even full ski suits and hoods. We also included some non-uniform additions made by troops, including wicker wrapped footwear, which you can see in the screenshot below. Also featured are one of the fur collared coats and a pair of early sunglasses – more like goggles with slits cut in them to minimize glare from the sun or snow. If you want to stand out on the battlefield (in a good way), to celebrate the Ascent mode event we have big discounts on the Isonzo special editions that include cosmetic DLCs! Check out the new Ultimate Edition for every DLC in the game, including immediate access to the two future DLCs we have planned as soon as they release.

  • How Grief and a Deep Love of Games Is at the Centerpiece of Tales of Kenzera: Zau

How Grief and a Deep Love of Games Is at the Centerpiece of Tales of Kenzera: Zau

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

Tales of Kenzera: Zau follows a young shaman named Zao who makes a deal with Kalunga, the God of Death, that in exchange for three great spirits, he’ll bring his father back to the realm of the living. Zuberi is the character you will play when you start the game, and he is gifted a book by his late father — this book is his father’s final way of connecting with him – and you’ll learn that it’s through the eyes of Zuberi that you will journey into the world.

“When I was clearing my father’s things after he passed away, there was this book that he left which contained his handwriting. And it meant so much to me. Because it felt as if I was looking at his handwriting, I could almost bring him back to life, imagining him, you know, writing it, and this essentially inspired how we get into this story.”

Telling this story within the metroidvania space, as Salim explains, is because the genre’s rules and structure behave a lot like grief. As a player, you’re thrown into this alien world that you can never prepare for. Yet the longer you stay in it – exploring its various dark and unknown corners at your own pace — you become more comfortable within it.

Thanks to all the great feedback Xbox Insiders provide and the hard work of Xbox engineers, we are happy to announce the following fixes have been implemented with this build:

    System

  • Time for an Adventure – Grandia HD Collection, Remastered for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Out Now

Time for an Adventure – Grandia HD Collection, Remastered for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, Out Now

    Reading Time: 6 minutes
    • Critically acclaimed RPG Grandia HD Collection is out now.
    • Two timeless adventures with iconic casts of characters.
    • E nhanced UI, visual improvements to cinematic videos, updated language support, and more.

I am excited to announce that the remaster of the classic role-playing series, Grandia HD Collection, has launched on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S! Whether you are returning to these iconic games or entering these worlds for the first time, the series’ dynamic attack system, rewarding magic and skill progression, and immersive storylines offer dozens of hours of heroic adventures.

Getting You up to Speed on All Things Grandia

The Grandia HD Collection brings two role-playing games that have defined the genre for decades to come to contemporary audiences.

    Grandia

Grandia follows Justin, a young adventurer who fatefully inherits a magic stone and thus sets out to uncover the mysteries of a lost civilization. In his search, he attracts all types of attention. Some good, in that he meets other adventurers who aid him along on his quest. However, some are bad, like the Garlyle Forces who work to keep him from unraveling the truth of the past.

    Meet the Crew

Justin – Driven by his curious and fearless nature, Justin often dives headfirst into situations without thinking. He possesses the mysterious Spirit Stone—an artifact passed down through his family—which plays a pivotal role in his adventures.

Sue – Justin’s childhood friend from the town of Parm. She often joins him on his misadventures, bringing to them her courageous optimism and unexpected maturity that balances out Justin’s impulsiveness. She is almost always accompanied by her flying ball of fluff Puffy, who is as mysterious as he is adorable!

Feena – The most well-traveled of the bunch, Feena has an independent spirit and impressive skillset that garners the respect of those around her, especially Justin. As the journey unfolds, players delve deeper into her multifaceted character and mysterious past.

    Grandia II

Grandia II acquaints us with Ryudo, a Geohound who does odd jobs to get money alongside his loyal eagle companion, Skye. One fateful day, he receives a request from the Church of Granas to serve as a bodyguard to one Elena, Songstress of Granas. Together, they bring out pieces of each other that neither of them knew existed amidst their journey to rid the world of Evil in the form of Valmar, God of Darkness.

    Meet The Crew

Ryudo – A mercenary with a tough exterior and noble heart. He takes on various jobs for money—despite the moral implications—and is accompanied by his trusted bird companion, Skye.

Elena – The epitome of innocence and purity, Elena’s world is opened wide when she begins to journey alongside Ryudo.

Millenia – Uninhibited, playful, and mischievous, Millenia is a force to be reckoned with. Her origins and the nature of her existence cause her relationship with the party to take many interesting and unexpected turns.

    Key Destinations

On your journey, you’re bound to visit many enticing cities. Here are just a few of the places you will come across on your travels:

    Grandia

    • Port City of Parm – Our protagonist Justin’s hometown. The century of adventurers has ended, and the century of the industrial revolution has begun. Once a port of departure for adventurers, Parm City has now developed into a metropolis with two faces, the birthplace of modern industry and a center of trade. This city, where the pleasant sea breeze and the smell of coal coexist peacefully, is full of bright energy of residents striving for a better tomorrow. Order in this city is protected by the Garlyle Force, the Industrial Foundation’s private army. As a port city, Parm’s main food source is fish; the city is comprised mainly of metal houses with sparse vegetation.
    Grandia port
    • Gumbo – A charming village facing the Sea of Mermaids located in a volcanic region with an everlasting summer climate. The land of love with a beautiful emerald green sea, white sand coastline, and many frogs. This is truly a place of relaxation, especially for young lovers. However, a dragon settled on the top of the volcano and began absorbing the volcano’s power, subsequently cooling the surrounding area.
    Grandia village

    Grandia II

    Grandia castle
    • Cyrum Kingdom – A vast colorful kingdom that finds itself along the coast. In the center of this kingdom sits Cyrum Castle, the key to the Cyrum people’s dark history. In Valmar and Lord Granas’ historic battle, the Cyrum people—or People of Darkness as they were once known—served Valmar. However, once he was sealed away, they renounced their commitment to darkness.
    • St. Heim Papal State – thehome to Pope Zera and impressive Granas Cathedral.

This cathedral sits atop a looming mountain overlooking St. Heim. The Granas Cathedral is the largest church to Lord Granas, making it a place of religious significance for his followers.

    What’s New

Embrace the collection and unlock your childhood nostalgia—now with enhanced UI, sprite, and texture art details. Watch cult-favorite cinematics, now visually improved along with widescreen support. The collection also has updated language support for English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified and traditional). You can also play the games in entirely English or Japanese audio!

The Grandia series is known by its loyal fanbase for its unique Skill Point system, turn-based combat, incredible world-building, melodic compositions, and more.
