Xbox Ones leaking liquid? Rumor expected
Reading Time: 3 minutesUPDATE 4: As NeoGAF user zorlaczerhero has pointed out, the issue could have potentially been caused by a bursting capacitor (although it wouldn’t explain the occurrence of the leakage on more than one event, unless multiple capacitors burst, which would have inevitably caused CynicalAnarchy’s Xbox One to stop working completely). Check out a video below of a bursting capacitor below:
A couple of users on the Xbox Support forums are complaining about quite an unusual issue with their Xbox Ones. Their Xbox Ones were allegedly leaking a liquid that was leaving a milky-white residue, from inside the console itself.
From all accounts, it seems that it could be the thermal compound leaking out (a heat-conducting compound that sits between a chip and its heatsink, to help channel generated heat from a graphics/CPU chip to the heatsink to dissipate), though the compound itself would have to have been applied quite liberally to leak out. Seeing as the Xbox One’s huge heatsink-fan assembly sits at the full right-front of the console, near the vents, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for the compound to leak out if too much was accidentally applied during assembly.
Usually, most thermal compounds, especially ceramic-based ones, are not electrically conductive, but might be capacitive (though they can hold a charge; they can’t transfer it). So even if the above issues are true, and thermal compound is involved, it would not typically cause an electric shortage on the console.
UPDATE 1: N4G user TIER1xWOLFPACK has suggested that it could very well be capacitor fluid that might have leaked out of the vents. It’s a very plausible explanation as well, considering the people complaining about the issue did mention an “oily” liquid, which describes adequately how the liquid escaping from damaged capacitors looks like. In the case of a damaged capacitor, the people having the issue should definitely contact support and send in their Xbox One’s for repair, since if a capacitor leak is the case, then they could have some serious issues down the line.
UPDATE 2: CynicalAnarchy, the Xbox One owner who originally reported the leaking liquid issue, has updated the thread with two (admittedly pretty low-resolution) pictures showing the milky residue on top of the Xbox One. The residue seems to be on the vent, right above the main exhaust fan of the Xbox One.
UPDATE 3: CynicalAnarchy contacted us to tell his story in more detail. Read his comments below:
“…I didn’t just take a picture as soon as I saw the residue I waited two weeks then I came here to the forums, to try and find out if I was the only one with the problem, and then today, I posted the pictures and contacted microsoft, like the person up there suggested. I take relative good care for my xbox, I’ve only place my controller or the mic on top of the xbox, I haven’t spilled anything on it and the oily sticky ness you see in the pictures is me trying to wipe it up earlier in the week, hoping the problem went away. I’ve read a few off the comment on the sites saying I’m a fake or a troll cause they don’t see any xbox one games on my recent games, Both AC4 and BF4 are xbox one games, the only ones I have. I can assure you this is not fake, I don’t have an actual camera, but I’ll see what I can do about getting a better picture.”
(Note: As far as Xbox One games not showing up on recent activity, this is a known issue and the feature hasn’t been activated yet. Currently, Xbox One game stats DO NOT show up on one’s Xbox website activity feeds e.g., I myself play my Xbox One version of Call of Duty (last played a week ago), but my own activity feed shows me playing it last on November 30th, 2013.)

Witness The Glory Of A 64-Man Battlefield 4 Base Jump
Reading Time: < 1 minuteIt takes up a lot of time and dedication, organizing an event where a full server of 64 people jump off a skyscaper in Battlefield 4, but it’s totally worth the effort. This is so much better than any of those precise and fast killshots that normally dominate Battlefield montages.P
If you attempt to do something like this, just make sure the building doesn’t collapse in mid-jump. That might be too much epicness at the same time and the server would crash.P

Killer Instinct will be released without Arcade Mode
Reading Time: 2 minutesAccording to Daniel Fornace from Microsoft Studios, the upcoming Killer Instinct for Xbox One won’t receive the Arcade Mode until all of the Season One characters arrive to the game, that means until the first eight characters of the game gets released.
“Our Arcade mode is going to come out when we’ve done the eight characters. So once the last character comes out then we’ll have Arcade.”
So the game will arrive with the game modes: Survival and Dojo.
“Survival is like our endless mode. The way it works is you pick a difficulty and you go in, and you’re basically playing a long chain, and after each match you regenerate health, but as you go on you generate less and less, and even if you do beginner difficulty, as you get to the higher numbers the CPU does start getting tougher, so you’ll still hit a limit.”
“You set your difficulty to where you’re at – so if you set it to Champion it’ll start hard and get even worse.”
“The Dojo is our big tutorial mode. We’re teaching you about Killer Instinct, but we’re also trying to teach you about fighting games in general, and their terminology, because often you’ll hear people talk about fighting games, and you know they just don’t know what they’re talking about.”

PlayStation 4 FAQ explains game sharing, friend display
Reading Time: 3 minutesSony clarifies PS4 game-sharing rules ahead of launch.
Sony has published a ‚PlayStation 4 FAQ‘, which clarifies sharing, activating a primary system, friends lists, and more!
Here’s a summary of the answers:
“Primary” Console Sharing
On a system that you activated as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system, other users can play games you download. If you subscribe to PlayStation Plus, certain benefits can also be enjoyed by other users. You do not have to log in to the system for other users to enjoy these benefits.
Playing on Other PlayStation 4 Systems
On systems that you have not activated as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system, only you can start games you download, and only you can enjoy benefits from PlayStation Plus.
Playing Disc-Based Games
You can share discs with your friends and play disc games on your PlayStation 4 system just like you can on a PlayStation 3 system. You do not have to connect to the internet or pay any usage fees to play used games.
Why should I activate my system as my primary PlayStation 4?
You can activate one PlayStation 4 system per account as your “primary” PlayStation 4 system. When you activate your system, the following features become available.
- Anyone who uses your PlayStation 4 system can enjoy games and applications you purchase from PlayStation Store.
- Anyone who uses your PlayStation 4 system can enjoy numerous benefits if you join PlayStation Plus.
- You can purchase or pre-order content on PlayStation App and have the content automatically downloaded to your PlayStation 4 system.
- You can connect to the PlayStation 4 system from a PS Vita system via the Internet using Remote Play.
You can deactivate a PlayStation 4 system only with that system. If you want to activate a different system that is not at your home as your primary PlayStation 4 system, you must deactivate the current primary system first. Also deactivate your PlayStation 4 system if you plan to transfer or dispose of it.
With PlayStation 4, users can friend up to 2,000 people on PlayStation Network. You can view your friends on any device you have signed in to with your PlayStation Network account. The number of players displayed varies for each device.
- PlayStation 4 – All friends are displayed.
- PlayStation 3 – A maximum of 100 players can be displayed.
- PS Vita – All your riends are displayed in the Friends app. Support for the ability to display all of your Friends in most applications and games is planned. (However, some titles will be limited to the current 100 Friends.)
- PlayStation App – All your friends are displayed.
Which 100 players will be displayed on PlayStation 3?
- If you have sent or received Friend requests that haven’t been approved yet, up to 10 of the most recent recipients and 10 of the most recent senders are displayed.
- If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is more than 100, your currently online Friends are displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.
- If the sum of players from point (1) and your currently online Friends is less than 100, your currently offline Friends are also displayed by online ID in alphabetical order until the limit of 100 players is reached.
- If the sum of players from point (1) and all of your Friends from point (2) is less than 100, any remaining recipients of your Friend requests are displayed, followed by any remaining players who sent Friend requests to you, until the limit of 100 players is reached.
You must sign out of PlayStation Network and then sign in again to update the players who are displayed. When doing this, also sign out of all other devices that you are signed in to PlayStation Network on.

Some Xbox One game sizes revealed
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe leaked Xbox One game case back covers posted by Reddit users, reveal some interesting information, including the HUGE game installation sizes for Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and Forza Motorsport 5.
Here’s the data:
– Dead Rising 3 will require up to 35 GB of HDD storage and will have 1-2 person co-op play over Xbox Live but no local co-op.
– Ryse will require up to 47 GB and will feature impulse triggers and 1-2 person co-op over Xbox Live, as well as optional Kinect voice support.
– Forza Motorsport 5 will require up to 35 GB of storage and will support Kinect voice features and force feedback wheels as well as 1-2 person local multiplayer and 2-16 players online.
These massive installations are comparable to a few PlayStation 4 like Killzone: Shadow Fall, which will take about 39 GB of HDD storage, and Call of Duty: Ghosts, which requires a minimum installation of 49 GB.
Also remember that PS4 hard drives are user replaceable while the Xbox One hard drive is not, though players will be able to extend storage capacity with USB external hard drives. However, that functionality won’t be available at launch.

Take a look at PlayStation 4 retail packaging
Reading Time: 2 minutesChris Owen, Community Manager at PlayStation Europe, has released pics of the retail box for the PlayStation 4, the DualShock 4, and the new PS Camera.
You probably could’ve guessed, but the retail box for the PlayStation 4 rocks the same blue and white color scheme Sony’s been employing for some time now.
A handful of DualShock 4 flavors are on display, from classic black to „Wave Blue“ and „Magma Red,“ and everything looks just about how we’d expect given the last eight months of introducing the PS4. The only bizarre standout — the vertical stand — is, well, it’s a silly hunk of plastic that keeps the PlayStation 4 vertical.

2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8
2013 Ford Focus ST
2010 Audi TT RS Coupe
2012 Scion TC
2009 Jeep Cherokee SRT8
2011 Kia Cee’d

Almost 40% of Xbox Live audience is female
Reading Time: 2 minutesCOO for Microsoft, Mr. Kevin Turner made some comments recently that Xbox Live ‚audience‘ is made up of 40 percent of ‚females‘ now, and also 42% of Xbox Live members watch more then 30 hours of digital TV and Movies on their Xbox 360 console.
Of course no data was supplied for his claims, or what he calls ‚audience‘ for the 40% female part, and this is all related to USA market, and shows why they are pushing more TV/Sports/Movies then ‚Games‘ this time around for their Xbox One console with stats like this.
Almost 40 percent of the Xbox Live „audience“ in the United States is female, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner revealed this week during the company’s financial analysts meeting 2013.
It is not clear how Microsoft qualifies „audience“ in this context. A Microsoft spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.
Turner said this 40 percent figure represents a „giant change“ from when Xbox Live was originally introduced, though no specific numbers were provided.
Also during the presentation, Turner reiterated that Xbox Live has 48 million members in 41 countries. In addition, he revealed that 42 percent of Xbox Live subscribers in the U.S. watch 30 hours of digitally distributed TV and movies every month.
In 2012 alone, Turner said the Xbox platform delivered over 18 billion hours of entertainment globally.
Looking ahead to the Xbox One, Turner said the system is poised to have a successful launch.
„And we’re excited about the upcoming Xbox One launch. We believe we’ve got an incredible offering with Xbox One as it relates to multiplayer experiences and services,“ Turner said. „It’s going to give you–we’ve wrapped a lot of entertainment with the product as well, and we believe we’ve got our strongest game lineup, and the external pundits say it as well, that we’ve ever had to be able to offer as a company.“

Reading Time: 2 minutesSony has revealed new details on its PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 digital upgrade program.
Those who buy PS3 versions of select games will be able to also pick up the PS4 versions at the discounted price of $9.99. Games included right now are Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and Watch Dogs.
Here is the info:
Gamers who purchase a PS3 Blu-ray Disc of these four games will find a code packed into the PS3 version that they can redeem on PlayStation Store. To play the PS4 version of the game when it becomes available, you’ll need to insert the original PS3 disc in your PS4 to activate and play the PS4 version, so hang onto that PS3 disc!
Gamers who purchase the digital version of any of these four games will not need to redeem a code to receive their PS4 versions. When your PS4 arrives, just look for the PS4 version of the game on PlayStation Store – it will appear on PlayStation Store on your PS4 for the discounted price of $9.99. Just purchase it and start playing!
For those of you who purchase the PS3 disc version of the games, you do not need a PS4 system to redeem your code, so feel free to redeem it as soon as you pick up your PS3 copy — you can download your digital copy later when your PS4 arrives.
But don’t wait: This program lasts for a limited time. You’ll need to redeem your code and make the purchase before January 31st, 2014 (for Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch_Dogs), March 28th (for Battlefield 4), or March 31st (for Call of Duty: Ghosts) in order to participate.
