    Sony has just announced a free Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer weekend for Playstation Plus subscribers. From December 28 to December 31 PS Plus subscribers will be able to download the Killzone: Shadow Fall trial and play with your friends through PSN. You should know that this download includes the single player mode so if you decide to purchase the full game you won’t need to download more data.

    As hinted back in August by Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studios, we’re excited to announce that starting today, PlayStation Plus members who’ve yet to pick up a copy of Killzone Shadow Fall can begin pre-loading now for a special FREE multiplayer extended Open Weekend running from 28th to 31st December 2013.

    Through this promotion, PS4 owners who don’t yet own Killzone Shadow Fall can easily try the game’s acclaimed multiplayer mode, and experience first-hand the excitement that thousands of videos and livestreams have already spread via the PS4′s powerful “Share” functionality. Checkhttp://shadowfall.killzone.com for current competitions and tournaments you can watch and/or participate in during the open weekend.

    It’s also important for us to reiterate that the Killzone Shadow Fall MP experience will continue to evolve and expand with new content and additional features. In fact, a new update is about to go live that addresses many oft-requested features, including the addition of voice chat.

    Moreover, all additional maps will be made available for free to ensure that the community grows without fragmenting. We’re committed to supporting Killzone Shadow Fall and we’re excited to share more about that vision early in the New Year.

    Don’t forget to start pre-loading today to make sure you’re on as early as possible on 28th December.

    NOTE: PS Plus members who don’t own Killzone Shadow Fall but opt to pre-load and participate in the multiplayer open weekend will also end up downloading single-player content as well (although multiplayer can be prioritised in order to complete first).     Shadow Fall has been built from the ground up for the PlayStation 4, and the response to the gameplay footage of Killzone Shadow Fall so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

Unfortunately, there are limitations to streamed video on the internet, and many of the clips and trailers we’ve released thus far aren’t being viewed in the best possible fidelity and framerate.

    In order to properly demonstrate the framerate and resolution we achieve in Shadow Fall’s multiplayer, we’ve captured and lightly compressed new footage that we’re not offering through a video sharing service. Instead, we ask that you download and locally view the high-resolution, uncompressed footage directly from from us.

    Important note: Please use a video player with hardware acceleration when viewing the footage. We recommend Windows Media Player for Windows users and QuickTime Player for Mac users. Do not use a non-accelerated player (such as VLC Media Player) because the framerate and resolution of this movie are simply too high and will likely cause choppy playback.

    The video you just saw has been captured from a multiplayer match on “The Park,” which is situated firmly behind enemy lines near the Visari tribute statue.

    As you can probably tell from the footage, Killzone Shadow Fall multiplayer outputs at a native 1080p, rendering uncapped but always targeting 60 FPS. We’re very pleased with how well the game runs, and we can’t wait for you to play it come November 15th.
