  • Apple’s iWatch To Ship In Two Different Sizes For Men And Women

Apple’s iWatch To Ship In Two Different Sizes For Men And Women

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

It has been reckoned for a while now that Apple is in the process of developing a so-called “iWatch” product to be worn on the wrist. The rumor itself is certainly believable, particularly with the release of Samsung’s Galaxy Gear back in September, but the reports surrounding the product itself have ranged from the plausible to the far-fetched. Today arrives perhaps the most outrageous claim that Apple will be creating two different specifications of the iWatch – a smaller model for women, and a larger version for the predominantly larger wrists of the male population.

    20131113000871_0

Of course, as watch aficionados will be more than aware, real timepieces made for women do tend to be smaller, but for a smartwatch to follow suit would seem a bit of a step too far. But that’s the assessment of one industry analyst, who believes the iWatch will feature an OLED display in both 1.7-inch and 1.3-inch specifications – the latter tailored to women.

We do expect, what with Apple being Apple, that the iWatch will make something of a fashion statement, but for the company to go the whole hog and release the iWatch in differing sizes would make very little sense. It would also cause quite a bit of controversy. I mean, what would a smaller-wristed man or larger-wristed lady do when out shopping for the iWatch? Would the smaller-displaying model be inferior in any other way? How would Apple market such a product.

    iWatch-2

With the iPad mini having released last year, it would seem that the Tim Cook era of Apple is much more open to reason, but an OLED watch in two different sizes, for the two sexes? Personally, I cannot see this happening.

The analyst with the scoop on this one is David Hsieh, who’s the head of the the greater China market for DisplaySearch. Hsieh has a solid track record for making accurate predictions where the Cupertino outfit is concerned, and if he’s right on this one, it will also be the first time Apple has introduced OLED technology into its displays.

Many of its competitors in the smartphone and tablet industry use OLED displays, while the company has stuck religiously with LCD panels.

Ming-Chi Kuo, another well-connected analyst for CGI, believes the iWatch will launch in the second half of next year.

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

This is a digital collectible trading card game and the mobile versions will be released sometime in the second half of next year:

    icon_xl (2)

Chief creative officer Rob Pardo said the touch-controlled version of the game for tablets is a great way to play the game, but „not everyone actually has tablets.“ On stage, Pardo showed a shot of the game running on an iPhone 5s.

The game was already announced for iPad, Mac and Windows PC. That version of the game is expected to go into an open beta next month, Pardo said, „but in Blizzard language, that might mean January.“

BlizzCon attendees will be treated to an exclusive Hearthstone card, Pardo announced, a gold card variant of the Elite Tauren Chieftan. When played, the ETC appears to boost the attacks of other cards already played with „power chords“ giving other players „the power to ROCK!“ Playing the card causes concert stage lighting and pyrotechnic effects on the playfield.

Blizzard revealed Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft at a PAX East 2013 panel. The free-to-play collectible card game entered a closed beta for Mac and PC in August.

  • How to Transfer Data from Android to new iPhone5s and Back!

How to Transfer Data from Android to new iPhone5s and Back!

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

How to transfer data from your old Android phone to a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c

So, you’ve been living in the Android world for a while and now you’re looking to give a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c a go. And why not? The iPhone 5s is a pretty stunning piece of hardware while the iPhone 5c is about as bright and colorful as you’ll find anywhere. Then you have iOS 7 which is the biggest overhaul Apple has ever made to its mobile operating system since its introduction in 2007. Changing platforms can not only be a headache but a shock to the system for some, and while applications like Xender for PC are perfectly simple to use and will take care of your needs, we feel we can offer a more complete service, so that’s where we come in. From start to finish, we can help you get your stuff off your old Android phone and on to your iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c as painlessly as possible.

    Here’s how:

    Google, Facebook, and Twitter

Many cloud services including Google’s native ones, Facebook, Twitter, and more can store your contacts, calendars, and much more for you. Cross-platform supported services such as Google, Exchange, or Yahoo! are all supported in iOS 7, which for you means minimal effort in importing all of your data. It’s as easy as entering your credentials for any of the supported services that can be found within the iOS 7 Settings menu, and toggling which data you want to pull in; mail, contacts, calendars, and in some cases, even notes. They are already stored in the cloud just waiting for you to access them on your new iPhone.

If you rely on Facebook and Twitter for many of your contacts, then that’s just fine too. iOS 7 can natively pull down contact data from both services into the Contacts app. Head into the Settings menu for each of them, and tell it to Update Contactsand you’re good to go.

    Store your images with Dropbox

Dropbox is available for both Android and iOS and offers an automatic upload feature for images. If you enable this on your existing Android device, getting your photos to your new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c is as simple as downloading and signing into the Dropbox for iOS app.

On your Android device, just install the Dropbox app from Google Play if you don’t have it already. The first time you launch it, you’ll be asked if you’d like to upload your photos. Say yes. If you already have Dropbox on your Android phone but don’t have automatic uploads turned on, you can do so through Settings.

    The old fashioned way

If, like me, you like keeping a hard copy of your contacts on your computer, or don’t trust cloud syncing, you can export your contacts from your Android phone as a .vcf file, and import that into either the Contacts app on your Mac, or into Contacts at iCloud.com

Start with your Android phone in hand and complete the following steps:

    1. Launch the Contacts app.
    2. Hit the Menu button.
    3. Find the Import/Export option and select it.
    4. Choose the option to export your contacts to storage.
    5. Now either manually pull it from your phone to your computer or email it to yourself.
    6. Once you’ve got the file containing your contacts you can either open it in theContacts app on your Mac or upload it to iCloud.com.

We recommend storing this file somewhere safe too just in case you ever need it again.

Using Android File Transfer for Mac

If you use a Windows PC, then getting data from your Android device using your computer will be straight forward enough. If you use a Mac, you’ll need to use the often horrendous Android File Transfer app (download links below.) This provides an interface with your Mac for you to browse the files and folders on your Android device, and copy them to your Mac if need be. Since certain files, and images can be imported to your iPhone via iTunes, this might be the quickest way of moving things between the two devices.

Google Apps on iOS are plentiful

Perhaps the easiest way to transition to iOS from Android is to make full use of the plethora of Google apps available in the App Store. Everything from Gmail and Chrome to Chromecast and Google TV remote are available, and Google is currently pushing out a single sign-on feature between the more popular ones. Aside from Android, iOS is the next best place to get your Google fix in the mobile world.

These are good apps too, really good apps. Google makes some of the best looking apps on iOS, many of which have already been updated with official support for iOS 7. If you live and breath Google services, you’re in good hands with Google’s official iOS apps. Here are some of the most common ones. And there’s more where that came from!

There’re 3 parts for you to do beforetransfer contacts from iPhone to any Android phones, including HTC ones.

Part 1 Transfer contacts from iPhone to computer

    • Step 1 Connect your iOS device (here take iPhone as an example) with the computer and Launch Leawo iOS Data Recovery.
    • Step 2 Click “Start” button in the center of the program interface to begin scanning your iPhone.
    • Step 3 Preview and transfer iPhone contacts to the computer. You can export all the contacts by ticking the total Contacts category and clicking “Recover” button to create CSV, VCF and HTML file for the purpose.

Part 2 Transfer contacts to Gmail Contacts

To transfer iPhone contacts to Android, you should first transfer iPhone contacts to Gmail, which is the most important part to transfer contacts from iPhone to Android.

    • Step 1 Open and log into your Google Gmail account on your computer, click “Gmail” button on the left column and choose “Contacts” category.
    • Step 2 Then click “More” and choose “Import” in its pull-down list, then import the contacts in VCF/CSV format by browsing the file explorer on your computer.
    • Step 3 Once you’ve transferred iPhone contacts to Google Contacts, you can get rid of the duplicate contacts before syncing the contacts to your Android phone. Click “More” and then click “Find & merge duplicates…”.

Part 3 Import iPhone contacts to Android

Now that you have successfully transferred iPhone contacts to Google Contacts, you can start to sync and transfer contacts from iOS to Android.

    • Step 1 On your Android phone, go to Menu > Settings > Accounts and Sync. Click “Add Account” and choose “Google”.
    • Step 2 Then, tap on “Sign in” to log into your Google account with the same Gmail address and password which you have imported iPhone contacts into.
    • Step 3 Then you’ll be led to an interface with options on what you want to sync into your Android phone, tick “Sync Contacts” and click “Finish” at the right bottom of the interface of your phone.

Well, you have just succeeded to transfer iPhone contacts to Android. Go to the contacts address book of your Android phone to check all the contacts you have transferred successfully.

  • Top 20 Safari Tips for iPhone and iPad with iOS7

Top 20 Safari Tips for iPhone and iPad with iOS7

    Reading Time: 8 minutes

Safari is probably one of the most used app on any iPhone or iPad, and it has got a lot of new features in iOS 7, so here are a few tips that’ll make your web browsing experience on iOS even better.

    Smart search field

Safari on iOS 7 has a unified “smart search field” that allows you to type the url of the website or search for text. When you start typing, it displays the top url hit, suggestions from Google Search or your favorite search engine, your Bookmarks and history, and results of the text search on the webpage in real-time. To save you time, Safari also preloads the top hit result.

    safari-smart-search

    Quickly type web addresses

To quickly type commonly used domain name extensions when entering a website address in Safari, long tap the “.” key to get a list of extensions, including ones specific to your region.

    ios-7-keyboard-dot-com-1

    Safari Reader

You can tap on the icon to the left of the smart search field to access the Safari Reader feature, which displays web articles without ads or clutter. The icon turns white when the Reader functionality is activated.

    safari-reader

    Increase or decrease font size

As you might know, iOS 7 introduces a way to globally set the text size for apps that support “Dynamic type”. Safari doesn’t apply this font size to webpages, but the Reader mode does respect this setting. To set your preferred font size, go to Settings > General > Text Size and adjust the slider according to your needs.

    font-size

    Add websites to favorites

    • When you open a new tab, you’ll notice that Safari shows you a grid of websites with their favicons so that you can have one-tap access to your favorite websites. You can rearrange the icons by long pressing any one of them, and dragging it to the position you want, much like how you arrange home screen icons.

    favorites-grid

    • To add a website as a favorite, tap on the share button, then tap on Bookmark and add it to the Favorites folder.

    favorites-safari

    • You have the option to select which folder should be the favorites folder via the Settings app (Settings > Safari > Favorites).

    change-favorites-folder

    • Safari also syncs your bookmarks (including your favorites) using iCloud. So bookmarks from Safari on the Mac, or from Chrome, IE or Firefox on Windows (via iCloud Control Panel) will sync to iOS and vice versa.

    Shared links

    • Safari on iOS 7 has a cool new “Shared Links” view that shows links shared by people you follow on Twitter.

    shared-links-1

    Reading list

    • If you’ve come across a long article that you find interesting but don’t want to read right now, you can add it to Safari’s Reading List, which syncs across all your iOS devices and Macs.
    • You can save items to your Reading List by tapping the share button in Safari, then tapping on the glass icon. iOS 7 also lets third parties add items to Safari’s reading list, so you could even add links from the Share menu in apps.

    reading-list-1

    • Tapping any of the links will open the page in a new tab, with the tweet displayed at the top for additional context.

    shared-links-2

    • You can access your Reading List by tapping the Bookmarks icon in Safari’s toolbar, and switching to the tab with the Glasses icon.

    reading-list-2

    Search on current page

    • To search for something on the current webpage, type your search text in the new smart search field, and right at the bottom, you’ll see a section called “On This Page” that shows you the number of matches.

    find on page 1

    • On tapping the last cell under the “On This Page”, Safari will take you to the first occurrence of your search text on the current page, and from there you can jump through all the occurrences using the back and forward button at the bottom.

    find on page 2

    Close and reorder tabs

    • To close a webpage, just swipe a tab offscreen to the left or tap on the x button. Sadly, you can close only one tab at a time, and there is no option to close all tabs.

    close tab safari

    • You can also reorder tabs by tapping and holding on a tab, and moving it to the place you want it.

    rearrange tab safari

    • Not very useful, but the tabs in the tab switcher view react to device movement by moving in the opposite direction.

    iCloud tabs

iCloud tabs let you access the tabs you’ve opened on your Mac on your iOS device and vice versa. You can access your iCloud tabs, by scrolling down beyond your local tabs. They’re displayed as a list against a translucent background, sorted by device.

    icloud tabs

    (Screenshot via)

    Full screen view

Screen real estate is quite important for web browsing, and in iOS 7, the address bar and the toolbar disappear when you’re browsing, and shows you the content with domain name of the website in the status bar.

    full-screen

Quickly unhide toolbar and address bar

Of course the full screen mode might become annoying when you want to switch tabs, since the toolbar isn’t visible. To bring it back quickly, just tap at the bottom of the screen. Here’s a video demo:

    Private browsing

    • It is easier and quicker to turn on or turn off private browsing session in iOS 7 Safari. To enable or disable private browsing, enter the tab switcher view by tapping the tab button at the bottom, followed by the Private button on the bottom left corner. (In iOS 6, you had to go through the hassle of accessing the Settings app to enable or disable Private browsing.)

    private-mode

    • You’ll see the interface change to black to help you differentiate between private and normal browsing mode.
    • Note that Safari’s private browsing mode is much safer than the one on other third-party browsers, including Chrome’s incognito mode, since they may preserve your private searches even after you exit private browsing.

    Restrict websites

You can restrict certain websites from loading in Safari by using iOS’ inbuilt parental control tools. Open Settings and navigate to General > Restrictions > Websites under Allowed Content and you can:

    • Limit Adult content

    ios-7-safari-restrictions-1

    • Blacklist certain websites
    • Allow access to specific websites only. Apple has added a list of children friendly websites like Discovery Kids, Disney, National Geographic – Kids etc. Parents can also add a website by tapping on the “Add a Website” option.

    ios-7-safari-restrictions-3

Gestures to go back and forward

Instead of using buttons, you can use edge-swipe gestures to navigate between webpages. Swipe from the left edge to go back one page and swipe from the right edge to go forward. These gestures are very useful in full screen mode, since you don’t have the buttons immediately available.

    IMG_0032

Quickly open a webpage in Chrome

If you use Chrome, but arrived in Safari because iOS can’t set a default web browser, you can quickly open the same page in Chrome by replacing the “http://” in the smart search field with “googlechrome://”. If there’s no http in the URL, simply prepend ”googlechrome://” in the field and press go.

    open-in-chrome

    Add a Credit Card

If you do a lot of purchases on your iPhone, you’ll be happy to know that you can add your credit card information to Safari’s autofill, so that you don’t have to manually fill it again. To enter your credit card info, open Settings and navigate to Safari > Passwords and AutoFill > Saved Credit Cards > Add Credit Card.

    credit-cards-safari

    Share a page using AirDrop

Although the Share panel in Safari on iOS 7 has received a facelift, it largely has the same features as iOS 6, except for AirDrop. If you have any AirDrop enabled devices near you, you’ll see an option to share the URL of the webpage with people nearby.

See page load progress of all tabs on iPad

On iPad, Apple utilises the tab bar to show the page load progress of each of the tabs by using thin blue progress bars. Pretty useful if you open a lot of tabs at once, and don’t want to switch to each one of them, just to view its progress.

    tab progress

    Recently closed tabs on iPad

If you’ve mistakenly closed a tab, or simply want to open a tab you’ve closed from your last browsing session, just tap and hold the “+” button on the iPad to see a list of all your recently closed tabs.
