    Launching 101: Mastering your Launch

Each level presents a unique challenge, and finding the right weak points in the structures is key to causing maximum destruction. Using your launchpad, your objective is to eliminate all enemies, explode the gifts, and ideally finish with an extra shot remaining—earning you the prestigious gold trophy. If you run out of shots but still manage to explode all gifts, you’ll receive a silver trophy. Simply clearing the level will net you a bronze.

To maximize your impact, carefully aim using the launchpad and activate each bomb’s special ability mid-air at the perfect moment. Since every bomb has its own unique power, let’s break them down one by one:

    Dashy (Dash Bomb)

Dashy is the starting bomb in Blow It Up, known for its versatility. When activated mid-air, it propels in a straight line based on the direction of its velocity at the time of activation. Dashy is great for reaching tough enemies, cleaning up leftovers, or targeting weak points in structures. However, its explosion is one of the weakest in the game, making it less effective in levels with many enemies or dense structures. Use Dashy strategically for its speed and precision, but be mindful of its limited power.

    Diggy (Drill Bomb)

Diggy is a bomb that drops straight down when activated, making it perfect for targeting areas directly below. It’s great for situations where you need to thread the needle—hitting specific targets or enemies on lower levels with precision. While it only has a single explosion, it can cause significant damage in the area of impact. Use Diggy when you need a focused, direct hit, but keep in mind it’s usually not suited for taking out multiple targets at once.

    Gunny (Gun Bomb)

When activated, Gunny fires its two handguns one by one, each shot causing a small explosion upon impact. This makes it perfect for breaking through structures, particularly when targets are aligned in a straight path or when you need to destabilize the foundation of a building. The shots weaken structures and create openings, allowing for precise, strategic destruction—especially when focusing on key points to bring the structure down.

    Blow it up screenshot

    Jetty (Airplane Bomb)

Jetty takes to the skies when activated, flying horizontally and dropping small bombs along its path before eventually falling down. This makes Jetty excellent for targeting multiple enemies or structures arranged horizontally. Its ability to cover a wide area with each drop makes it a versatile, all-around bomb, perfect for dealing with scattered targets or clearing large sections of a level.

    Blasty (Remote Bomb)

Blasty is a remote bomb that explodes immediately upon activation. Its precise detonation makes it perfect for close-range targets, reaching hard-to-access areas (where other bombs would trigger too soon), or even pushing objects when needed. Blasty’s controlled explosion allows for strategic, creative plays in tricky situations.

    Chainy & Linky (Chain Bomb)

Chainy & Linky are two bombs connected by a chain. When activated, they break free and move on their own, each following its own path until they reach their target. This unique dynamic allows for creative strategies, as their separate movement can hit multiple targets or cause destruction in different areas of the level.

    Puffy (Fat Bomb)

Puffy is a bomb with a more limited range but a powerful punch. When activated, it releases shrapnel that carries the same momentum as the original bomb, causing the pieces to explode independently. This makes Puffy great for creating large explosions in tight spaces, taking out close-range targets, and cleaning up any remaining enemies or obstacles. Its unique blast pattern allows for focused, impactful destruction.

    Mix, Match, Boom

With all these bombs at your disposal, the key to success is finding the right one for each level’s challenge. Whether you’re looking for precision, wide-ranging destruction, or something in between, there’s a bomb to match your playstyle and the situation at hand. The more you experiment, the better you’ll understand how each bomb’s unique abilities can be used to create the perfect explosion. So, go ahead, blow stuff up, and unleash chaos in Boomtopia! After all, who doesn’t love a good explosion?

A Survival Shooter Like No Other

Innovation often comes from blending distinct genres to create a new, engaging experience for players. Geometry Survivor is a testament to this creative process, merging the fast-paced shooting action of Geometry Wars with the addictive progression and survival elements of Vampire Survivors.

The Origin of the World of Geometry Survivor

The idea for the game originated from a desire to combine the high-adrenaline gameplay of classic arcade shooters with the strategic depth and character progression found in modern survival games. Geometry Wars provided the perfect template for the game’s intense shooting mechanics, renowned for its vibrant visuals and dynamic enemy patterns. Meanwhile, Vampire Survivors offered a blueprint for incremental progression and survival against overwhelming odds, where players enhance their character’s abilities over time to withstand hordes of enemies.

Our aim was to create a game that not only pays homage to these influences but also create a game that stands on its own as a unique title. The core concept revolves around navigating a large arena, surviving against waves of enemies, and evolving the player’s abilities through strategic choices.

Overcoming the Obstacles for Challenging Gameplay

Blending two distinct gameplay styles presented several challenges for the development team. One of the primary hurdles was balancing the game’s pacing. The team needed to ensure that the shooting mechanics complemented the progression and survival aspects without overwhelming the player or making the game too easy.

Another challenge was designing enemy patterns and progression systems that would keep players engaged over time. We had to conduct extensive testing to fine-tune the difficulty curve, ensuring that the game remained challenging yet fair.

    Unique Features of Geometry Survivor

A fundamental element of the game harks back to the essence of arcade classic shooters, where a player’s bullet would immediately annihilate an enemy ship, disintegrating it into fragments. We decided to use a simplistic health system where each entity can be eliminated with a single bullet.

This departure from the conventional damage/health paradigms introduces distinctive challenges in the design of varied and engaging weaponry.  Given the one-shot kill mechanic, the game strategy involves flooding the screen with enemies spaced at various intervals. Each adversary exhibits unique movement behaviors, which, when combined, result in highly challenging combat scenarios.

Players are required to adeptly navigate through hordes of enemies, making tactical use of weapons to dispatch foes before becoming overwhelmed.

    High Performance Highlights

The implementation of the Entity Component System (ECS) in Unity significantly contributed to enhancing the performance of Geometry Survivor, enabling the game to achieve a solid and high framerate even during intense gameplay moments. ECS architecture separates data and behavior, which allows for more efficient data access and manipulation, reducing the overhead typically associated with object-oriented programming. This approach was particularly beneficial for Geometry Survivor, where the screen can be inundated with numerous enemies, projectiles, and effects simultaneously. By utilizing ECS, we were able to take advantage of highly optimized, multithreaded code execution, ensuring that the game’s performance remained fluid and responsive.

This optimization was crucial for maintaining the fast-paced action and visual clarity that were central to the game’s design, providing players with a seamless and engaging experience without compromising on graphical fidelity or gameplay complexity. We hope you enjoy Geometry Survivor! The game is available now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

  • Story of a Gladiator Now Available on PS4

Story of a Gladiator Now Available on PS4

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Story of a Gladiator is an arena beat ’em up out on PS4 today, where you play the role of a man in search of his destiny. You start with nothing but a broken shield and sword, sent forth into the arena where you are expected to die for the crowd’s entertainment. You must turn the odds in your favor if you want to become champion one day.

Becoming a champion will be difficult, but if you follow these tips, you will surely find the coin and glory that you seek… not to mention getting to keep your head!

    Break the Greek defenses

    • In the later stages of the Greek campaign, you will find gladiators who will block your attacks. Break their defense by using jump attack level 2 or critical strike level 4.

    The beasts from Carthage

    • Many of the battles in the African campaign will be against tigers, panthers, and lions. These beasts will run at you with great speed, claw you, and run away! Be ready to attack when you see one running towards you!

    Running Combos

    • The run skill has great synergy with many other skills, amplifying their strength. You should consider using those combos as much as possible.
    • Doing a roll dodge while running will push you forward almost double the distance.
    • Doing a jump attack while running will give you a +100% bonus damage.
    • You can use your shield and bash your enemies while you are running.

    Skill Builds

    • If you keep dying, change your skill build and try something different. Some enemies require a different set of skills to be defeated. Boss fights which almost always require a specific skill combination.

    The Romans

    • The elite army of the Roman empire is very organized and have some of the strongest gladiators. They will come at you nonstop, and if you’re not careful, death can be swift.
    • Consider getting block level 2 to block incoming attacks and counter-attack them.
    • Jump attack level 3 (uninterrupted attack) will allow you to get an attack across even if it means taking some damage. Repeated jump attacks can deal a lot of damage.
    • Unbreakable skill is a must, as it will allow you to escape and stay alive when you get surrounded and beaten down.
    • You will probably also need high stamina as these fights are quite intensive, and you will need to use many abilities in a short time.
    • Lastly, some battles will prove impossible without the help of the god of war, Mars. Build up crowd energy on the first wave and call upon him on the second or third wave and see your enemies turn against each other!

    Pet Strategies

    • The tiger will attack anyone who hits you. While in block mode, you take almost no damage and your tiger will retaliate on those who attacked you, hurting and damaging them. Tigers are also useful to break enemy attacks when you get hurt nonstop by multiple enemies.
    • Panthers are a sure way to deal damage to enemies as they go around every few seconds looking for someone to bite. You can also play the long game with a panther by running around doing nothing while your pet slowly kills them.
    • Lions attack the same enemy you attack and require a bit more coordination, however the 2 of you attacking together will make it impossible for enemies to escape.
    • You can also feed your pet with different types of foods that give them extra damage, double attack and stun attacks.

    Gladiator mode

This mode features permadeath, so you should understand how the game works very well before you attempt it. Every time you win a battle you gain a life, and when you lose a battle, you lose a life. When you lose all your lives, then you die permanently.

    • It’s important to win the Greek campaign with almost no defeats as it’s the easiest, and you will need the extra lives in the more difficult campaigns of Africa and Rome.
    • Coin is very important, so you may want to consider building the amulet of Jupiter to gain extra coin in battles.
    • There is no option to replay battles in this mode, thus you will need to try and get 2-3 star victories to get bonus performance coin. Try to win without losing any health at all to score a perfect bonus, which gives you another extra 10% coin.

Good luck, gladiator. Die with honor!
