How to give your students structure as they learn programming skills

    Reading Time: 5 minutes

Creating a computer program involves many different skills — knowing how to code is just one part. When we teach programming to young people, we want to guide them to learn these skills in a structured way. The ‘levels of abstraction’ framework is a great tool for doing that. This blog describes how using the framework will benefit you and your learners in the computing classroom.

Two learners at a laptop in a computing classroom.

We’re also excited to share our new Pedagogy Quick Read, which you can download for free to:

    • Find practical tips for using the ‘levels of abstraction’ framework with your learners
    • Read a summary of the research behind the framework

Learning to program: Everything at once?

Creating a program from the ground up can be daunting, especially for new learners. Without support, they’ll likely get stuck sooner or later; programs rarely work the first time round. And the more complex the problem that a program is addressing, the more likely it is that the first version of the program won’t work.

In a computing classroom, two girls concentrate on their programming task.

One reason that learning to program can be challenging is that it involves understanding a lot of specific concepts and applying many varied skills. From early on in their learning journey, young people need to have a firm grasp of concepts such as repetition, selection, variables, and functions. Also fundamental to learning to program well is the skill of abstraction: understanding a task and identifying which details are relevant and which can be ignored.

To get to grips with all these different concepts and skills, young people need structure — otherwise they’ll try to hold everything in their head at once, and likely feel overwhelmed by the cognitive load. This sort of experience may cause them to disengage instead of persisting. They may even decide that programming is not for them.

In light of these challenges, the ‘levels of abstraction’ framework is a great tool for teaching.

The benefits of the ‘levels of abstraction’ framework

The framework breaks programming down into four levels, each focusing on a different aspect of creating a program:

    • Problem: Analysing the problem or task the program should address, to understand and record the requirements.
    • Design: Turning the analysis into an algorithm — a set of steps for the computer to follow to create the desired output. This can involve flowcharts or storyboards, but importantly no code.
    • Code: Developing the code based on the design (and building the physical components if any are involved).
    • Running the code: Testing the code, checking outputs, and debugging where necessary.

Throughout the processes of developing a program, learners (and professional programmers) move between these levels as they implement their designs and debug them, sometimes even returning to the problem level if more analysis or clarification is needed.

Young child in the classroom using Scratch to program.

Potential benefits of the ‘levels of abstraction’ framework for teachers:

    • It helps you break down the activity of programming into discrete parts.
    • It helps you engage your learners, as you can show them that programming involves more than knowing how to code.
    • If your learners get stuck with their programming, the framework can help you guide them to a solution.

    Potential benefits for learners:

    • The framework will help them think through all the steps needed to create a program that works, and practise their problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.
    • They will more readily see how programming connects to their world — at the problem level — and find aspects of programming where they have strengths and can use their creativity.
    • They will gain a stronger idea of how software is built in the tech sector.

Our new Quick Read shares tips on how to best use the framework in your teaching.

Things to aim for when using the framework with your learners:

    • Be aware of what level they are working at and when it’s time to switch to a different one.
    • Understand that, when they encounter an issue with their program, they can step back and use the framework to figure out where the issue comes from. The issue might be a bug in the code, the algorithm not working as intended, or a description of the problem not taking into account something important.

We hope you find the framework useful. If you have ideas for how to use it in your teaching, why not share them in the comments?

    Teaching programming: The wider context

When following the ‘levels of abstraction’ approach, learners need to explain how programs work and debug them. That means program comprehension is a key skill here. You may have already helped your learners to develop and practise this skill, for example with the PRIMM approach. The Block Model is another useful tool for helping your learners talk about various aspects of a program. And if you use the pair programming approach in programming activities, your learners can improve their program comprehension by talking about their code with each other. On our website, you’ll find more guidance on the best ways to teach programming and computing.

Photo of a young person coding on a desktop computer.

And what about generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools for programmers? In the age of AI, we think young people still need to learn to code because it empowers them to navigate and think critically about all digital technologies, including AI. And while generative AI tools can help a skilled programmer create quality code more quickly, more research is needed to show whether such tools help school-age young people build their understanding as they learn to code. You can see some of the great work being done in this area if you catch up with our 2024 research seminar series.

The ‘levels of abstraction’ framework is useful in your teaching no matter what tools young people use to create programs. Even with an AI tool, they will still need to work at all four levels of abstraction to program effectively.

  • This spinning water contraption is actually a functional battery

This spinning water contraption is actually a functional battery

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you ask someone to think of a battery, they’re probably going to picture a chemical battery, like a AA alkaline or a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. But there are other kinds of batteries that store energy without any fancy chemistry at all. If you find a way to save energy for later, you have a useful battery. Erik, of the Concept Crafted Creations YouTube channel, achieved that by storing kinetic energy in a spinning flywheel weighted with water.

This isn’t a crazy idea, because flywheels exist specifically to store kinetic energy in a spinning mass. In this case, most of that mass comes from tubes full of water. Water is cheaper than something like cast iron and it is easy to adjust the levels to maintain perfect balance.

But this wet flywheel has another trick up its sleeve: adjustable moment of inertia. Watch an ice skater as they tuck into spin and you’ll understand this. By pulling their arms and legs close their axis of rotation, the skater can reduce their overall moment of inertia and increase their speed. Erik’s flywheel can do the same thing by actuating the cylinders of water to bring them in closer to the rotational axis.

To control that process, Erik used an Arduino Nano board housed in a simple laser-cut box with a potentiometer for adjusting speed, and buttons to control power and the arm actuation. A beefy brushless DC motor spins up the flywheel under power. Then, when it is time to collect that power (such as to power the lightbulb Erik used for demonstration), that motor acts as a dynamo, like in a generator.

As a battery for long-term power storage, this isn’t very practical. In a vacuum with perfect frictionless bearings, it would be. But in the real-world the flywheel will slow down on its own in short order. Even so, it is still a great illustration of the concept.

Ara: History Untold’s Biggest Update and First DLC Available Today for Xbox PC and Steam

Ara: History Untold - Untold Scenarios Key Art

Chicken. Pork. Beef. Bread. Milk. None of these plants or animals existed in the Americas before European contact. Earth’s geography has always been imbalanced, and Ara: History Untold aims to vividly illustrate this asymmetry with the free version 1.4 update and first DLC, Untold Scenarios, available today for Xbox PC and Steam.

Version 1.4 of Xbox Game Studios’ ambitious historical 4X strategy game is the first update designed and developed by strategy and simulation experts Stardock Entertainment, who assumed production leadership in April. The companion DLC highlights what the game can now achieve.

    Geography is Destiny

The free update overhauls the game’s map generator, making each randomly generated world more distinct. Meanwhile, the Untold Scenarios DLC features maps with resources positioned realistically, causing societies to evolve very differently. In the Mongol Invasion scenario, you will step into the boots of Genghis Khan, leading the Mongols who, uniquely, cannot found new cities. Without Settlers, you must conquer territory, using specialized technologies and units to dominate the Asian steppes.

Europe at the Crossroads, another scenario, places historical figures into critical positions at the dawn of the Enlightenment. How might history unfold if Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Elizabeth I led 18th-century Europe instead of Louis XIV, William III, and Peter the Great?

    Living Strategy

Upon loading version 1.4, you will immediately notice the new Living Strategy view. Previously, Ara featured two modes: the detailed Living World and the icon-based Strategic View. The new Living Strategy mode combines these, clearly showing units scaled on the map to enhance visibility and strategic clarity.

    Simulation Meets Strategy

Ara’s Living World has always been a vibrant simulation. Farmers, bakers, and soldiers are individually simulated entities with their own needs and behaviors. Version 1.4 leverages this deep simulation to dramatically reduce micromanagement. You now have the option to let citizens autonomously supply their homes and shops, removing the need for constant manual decisions about resource allocation.

Additionally, computer opponents have significantly improved thanks to Stardock’s experience crafting AI for strategy games like Galactic Civilizations, Fallen Enchantress, and The Political Machine. Opponents now play uniquely based on their traits, employing sophisticated economic and military strategies to challenge you from ancient times through technological singularity.

    Prettier, Yet Faster

Oxide’s Nitrous engine has also been enhanced, dramatically improving performance, particularly in late-game scenarios. Smarter culling, optimized shaders, and refined simulations ensure a smoother experience, while visual enhancements make units and cities noticeably sharper and more detailed than ever.

Digging Deeper: The Inspirations Behind Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest

    Summary

    • Still Wakes the Deep: Siren’s Rest arrives today for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.
    • The DLC expansion is set 11 years after the original game, with a new main character.
    • Learn about the new inspirations behind this haunting new story.

Back in 2023, we shared some of the inspirations behind our narrative horror Still Wakes the Deep, which inspired its themes and structure, both in its grounded ’70s setting and its more fantastical horror elements. We took inspiration from a wide variety of sources, from classic horror films like The Thing and Annihilation to more unusual sources like Kes and Rosemary’s Baby.

For our new story expansion, Siren’s Rest, we wanted to explore the Beira D oil rig in a whole new setting, which comes with its own set of inspirations. Set in 1986, 11 years after the events of the original game, you’ll play as saturation diver Mhairi, who sets off on a journey beneath the North Sea to discover what happened on the Beira D. The ocean is a rich vein for exploring all kinds of tales, and these are just a few things that helped us craft this new story:

    Thalassophobia

The fear of deep water is the origin of the entire psychological palette of Siren’s Rest. And for any players who haven’t felt this… we hope that Siren’s Rest will give them a chance to get a taste of this phobia.

We trawled through hundreds of articles of people experiencing this condition, people creating art about it, portraying it in a variety of thrilling and sensual ways. One thing that struck us: many thalassophobic photographs juxtapose a human with some yawning abyss or some looming form. The feeling you have isn’t just that this is a scary setting – rather, you feel a sense of enveloping dread for the person. Whoever that person is in that photograph, no matter how nonchalant they appear… you feel that they are in way over their heads (literally). They are facing their doom. That sense of overconfidence against the unknowable depths is something we wanted to capture in the game.

Even just an image like this we found on Reddit of an oceanic abyss gets the creative juices flowing. Also, did you know that a thick mysterious cloud called a brine pool can form in the bottom of the sea that creates these strange images? We wanted to hold that tension, between beauty and dread, at the heart of every visual design choice.

‘Last Breath’ (2018) and Saturation Diving

Saturation diving – named for the technique used to extend how long a diver can remain underwater – is an extraordinary profession. Dangerous, meticulous, weirdly poetic – everything deserving art to be made about it. It’s as dangerous as an astronaut going on a spacewalk… but far darker and far less well known. You are under tremendous pressure, literally, that messes with your mental state. You see things. You hear things. And all you are is a tiny flickering flame amid the everdark. This tension, loneliness, and thrill  are all portrayed beautifully in the documentary ‘Last Breath’.

And for a more day-to-day explanation, just check out this Reddit AMA that was done a few years ago. Understanding what it means to live and work under such extreme conditions helped ground our narrative in real human stakes, even as the story veers into the surreal.

    ‘Blue Planet II –The Deep’

This episode of ‘Blue Planet II’ served as a powerful entry point for us into the mystery and otherworldliness of the ocean’s most unreachable places. Nature’s own level design and art design is off the charts! The strange colours, mysterious beings. Our wonderful Earth with its impossible underwater geographies provided us with a visual vocabulary for portraying the bottom of the sea not as some strange spectacle, but with this all-consuming silent awe…

    Dante’s ‘Inferno’

As clear a metaphor as it gets, right? Dante’s descent through Hell, in gripping 14th Century poetic language, of increasing delusion as one moves further into tender darkness – influenced how we approached the structure of Siren’s Rest.

“Love, which quickly arrests the gentle heart,
Seized him with my beautiful form
That was taken from me, in a manner which still grieves me.”

    ‘The Descent’ (2005)

This film is two decades old and still stands up incredibly well. It’s a Dante’s ‘Inferno’ story brought up to the modern-day. Definitely not for the faint-hearted, for sure! Its classic structure and masterful rhythm of making tense progress in unfamiliar, claustrophobic physical spaces is a huge inspiration.

Submerged corridors, the pitch-black crevices of the story’s setting, technical, sophisticated characters whose psyches are run ragged, the mix of terror and hope and dread – it’s all there.

    ‘The Lighthouse’ (2019)

A recent dark masterclass in isolation, yearning, and the mind tricks that these feelings can conjure up. The film portrays two men (played by Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe) unravelling under the weight of routine, myths, and their own strange company. Those parallel the emotional current running beneath Siren’s Rest – a deep, almost delirious human longing – for connection, for redemption, for closure…

A central relationship between two characters who are equally isolated, equally alone with their thoughts and expectations – that stuck with us. The surreal juxtaposition between the raw, unforgiving environment, the arcane chores needed for survival, and the distantly warm conjuring of lost memories… we certainly hoped to capture that.

    The Unexplained Ocean Sound, “Julia”

Sometimes even just a sonic phenomena can serve as an inspiration. A low-frequency sound, recorded by NOAA on March 1st 1999 and dubbed “Julia”, remains unexplained. The sound was loud enough to be detected across the Pacific Ocean and lasted for about two minutes and 43 seconds. An absolute treasure trove of strange explanations exists, spanning from giant sea creatures to aliens, naturally.

Julia’s inclusion in our early discussions around Siren’s Rest served as a symbol of the unknown – the uncanny idea that something might be out there, massive or silent, beyond our comprehension…

    Màiri Mhòr nan Òran

The Hebridean poet Màiri Mhòr nan Òran shares a name with our protagonist, and her work comprises much of the emotional tone of Siren’s Rest. Her verses, rooted in exile, land, and longing, speak to the cultural and personal ruptures at the heart of this new story. • Igniting innovation: How Experience AI is empowering teachers and students across Kenya

Igniting innovation: How Experience AI is empowering teachers and students across Kenya

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

This blog post is written by Victor Murithi, Communications and Media Consultant at Young Scientists Kenya, one of our global partners for Experience AI in Kenya.

When over 100 teachers from across Kenya gathered at Kangaru High School in Embu County for the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair Nationals in April, few anticipated just how transformative a two-day workshop could be. Delivered by the Experience AI Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) team, with support from the Raspberry Pi Foundation, the training sparked more than curiosity — it sparked a shift in mindset.

This wasn’t just about introducing new tools: it was about empowering teachers to confidently lead their students into an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven future.

Students in a classroom learn about Experience AI.

    National reach and local impact

What began as a plan to train just 40 teachers quickly grew into something much bigger. By the time the workshop kicked off, 104 teachers from over 80 schools across 37 counties in Kenya, had registered and participated — nearly tripling the initial target.

This overwhelming interest confirmed a powerful insight: teachers are eager to understand AI, not only to better prepare their students for the future, but also for their own professional growth.

The workshop’s curriculum didn’t just focus on technical skills, it aimed to create confidence, clarity, and community among the attendees — key ingredients for successfully integrating AI into teaching and learning.

“Helping teachers move past their fear of AI and understand its potential is incredibly powerful. Because AI is the future, and through this training, we’re reaching the minds that will shape it,” explained Lucy Mwaniki, AI Community Trainer at YSK.

    Practical skills, real outcomes

As part of the training, the attendees completed interactive worksheets, tested basic machine learning models, and sat a final comprehension test, something they found both validating and motivational.

“We were able to do the summative test… which turned out to be a very effective way of us understanding how in-depth and how well they grasped the knowledge,” says Lucy Mwaniki.

In one standout session, teachers collaboratively brainstormed ways AI could address national educational challenges. Ideas included models to assist students in selecting academic pathways within Kenya’s Competency Based Curriculum (CBC). Several teachers also successfully built working models, demonstrating the potential of applied learning.

“It was a very eye-opening session… some of the teachers were able to create a very basic model, which was a wonderful experience for them,” Lucy Mwaniki explains.

What made this training exceptional was its immediate applicability and long-term vision. By the end of two days, teachers weren’t just AI-aware — they were AI-ready, with many already starting to explore how AI tools could support entrepreneurship, lesson planning, and personalised learning pathways.

Students in a classroom setting; two of them are using a laptop to learn about AI.

    Celebrating our achievements and impact

At the close of the training, each teacher received a Certificate of Participation, recognising their commitment to professional development and their new capacity to bring AI into the classroom. The awarding of certificates added a sense of accomplishment and pride, reinforcing that teachers are key drivers of technological transformation in education.

And the impact of the training was measurable:

    • 95% of teachers agreed that the training increased their knowledge and confidence to teach AI concepts
    • 88% of teachers agreed that the training was high quality and useful for preparing them to teach the Experience AI lessons

But it doesn’t end there, as Vanessa Inziani, Head of Programs at YSK, explains, “Our commitment doesn’t end with the training — we continue to support educators with resources, mentorship, and follow-up to ensure success in delivering the program in the classroom.”

Looking ahead towards a promising AI journey

With the rapidly evolving digital landscape, AI is no longer a distant concept — it’s a present-day classroom necessity. Yet, introducing AI into schools isn’t just about technical literacy; it’s about confidence, clarity, and community and the approach the Young Scientist Kenya team and Experience AI delivered during the two-day training is anchored in this belief.

As AI continues to shape the global education landscape, programs like Experience AI provide the bridge needed to equip teachers, inspire students, and future-proof education systems. The Kangaru High School session was not a one-off — it was a catalyst for systemic change.

Experience AI is scaling. As it expands across Kenya and beyond, the benefits are clear:

    • Empowered educators who gain confidence and skills to integrate AI in their teaching
    • Future-ready students who grasp foundational AI concepts and their real-world applications
    • Sustainable impact as trained teachers go on to influence thousands of learners in their communities

The journey from fear to fluency starts with a single step, a willingness for us all to explore what’s possible. Together, we can equip educators, inspire students, and shape Kenya’s future, one AI-literate classroom at a time.

    About Experience AI

Experience AI is an AI literacy programme, co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, that teaches students aged 11 to 14 about AI and machine learning. Thanks to funding from Google.org, Young Scientists Kenya has partnered with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to provide free training to Kenyan educators, equipping them with the skills they need to effectively deliver the programme in their settings. They are one of two global partners working with the Raspberry Pi Foundation in Kenya.

    Summary

    • Fast, punchy action RPG set in retro-futuristic world.
    • Fluid combat mechanics with two distinct modes of play.
    • A scrappy and inquisitive protagonist heavily influenced by 1990s anime.

Robots at Midnight isn’t set in your typical post-apocalyptic, sci-fi future. The luxury planet of Yob, now in ruins, is a hostile wasteland teeming with dangers. Among the crumbling infrastructure of cottage homes and state-of-the-art railway systems, we find our protagonist, Zoe, stranded on a planet built by machines, who must survive as the only human against a tide of sentient robots. Zoe’s journey is more than just a series of encounters; there are hidden paths and secrets to uncover on this forgotten world.

    Robots at Midnight screenshot

Against the colorful – but broken – setting, a moving personal journey exists for our game’s hero as the story progresses. Will she make it home before midnight?

The developers at Finish Line Games aimed to create a vibrant action game with combat inspired by From Software games. The vision is to provide an accessible experience for a range of players and deliver a rich experience for more seasoned gamers familiar with challenging game titles like Elden Ring. “It had to offer the free movement that players expect, but also a flexible, engaging challenge,” says Creative Director Eric Frech. This led the development team to explore different layers of challenge. The ‘Hero Mode’ offers play-through focused on exploration and discovery, allowing players to delve into the mysteries and lore of Yob. But the harder ‘Master Mode’ caters to players who love the high-stakes challenge of pushing their skills to the limit against more difficult enemies.

    Robots at Midnight screenshot

Designing combat for Robots at Midnight’s environment also meant embracing a fun, dynamic feel. The MITT, Zoe’s space-gauntlet, is more than just her primary weapon; it’s an extension of her determination. Her encounters with robots demand smart thinking – in addition to quick reflexes. Zoe will encounter useful items easily along her path, while other items require some hunting to be discovered.

    Robots at Midnight screenshot

Ultimately, Yob is more than just a setting for Zoe to clobber robots at midnight; it’s a world with mysteries to unravel and lore to discover. Zoe’s fight for a brighter dawn in a world of hostile automatons is a journey of discovery, determination, and overcoming the odds. To that end, Frech proudly stated, “We aimed to build a wholly unique experience that lingers long after the last boss fight.”

Using all the resources at your disposal, can you get Zoe home before midnight? Robots at Midnight is available June 19 on Xbox.

    Snail Games USA

    $19.99

Robots at Midnight is a retro-futuristic Action RPG set on the planet Yob, a world left in ruins and haunted by the machines once built to serve it. After twenty years in cryo-sleep, Zoe wakes to find a world she barely recognizes. To survive and to save what’s left, she must track down her missing father, lost during the cataclysmic event known only as The Blackout. Along the way, she’ll take on gangs of corrupted robots, confront towering bosses, and uncover long-buried truths about Yob. Just be home before midnight. [Combat with Fluid Movement]
The MITT is a powerful piece of old-world tech made for Space exploration, now repurposed for survival. Launch off enemies, soar through the air, and smash through bots with momentum-based combat that keeps you constantly moving. Whether in battle or traversal, fast, fluid movement is your greatest weapon. Find your rhythm. Sharpen your skills. Discover what you’re really made of. [Choose Your Challenge]
Whether you’re new to action RPGs or a seasoned fighter, Robots at Midnight adapts to your playstyle. New Pinnacle Bosses in Path of Exile: Secrets of the Atlas, and Tips To Take Them On

    Summary

    • Path of Exile: Secrets of the Atlas is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on June 13.
    • Secrets of the Atlas sets Path of Exile up for a new series of Endgame Bosses, Crafting Systems, Unique Items and much more as the game also steps into a new storyline to prepare for many future expansions.
    • The expansion brings back a fan-favourite character and introduces three new Pinnacle Endgame Bosses that will truly put your skills to the test.

The new Path of Exile expansion, Secrets of the Atlas, arrives on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One today. Explore a new additive Atlas storyline, face three new Pinnacle Endgame Bosses, and find a perfect companion in a new Mercenaries of Trarthus challenge league. Here, we’ll also share some tips on how to approach these powerful new foes.

    Secrets of The Atlas

With one of Path of Exile’s most iconic characters, Zana, returning after many years from a mysterious disappearance, you will search for her and begin a new saga of the Endgame.

Bringing back Zana sets Path of Exile up for a new series of Endgame Bosses, Crafting Systems, Unique Items and much more as we also step into a new storyline to prepare for many future expansions.

The Secrets of the Atlas expansion comes with three very unique, very distinct bosses that now act as the Endgame Pinnacle content for this expansion. We wanted to have Zana be integral to these and have her memories be the source of their design. Specifically, very potent memories coming from places of either trauma or even admiration.

We took some concepts of Memories she had and translated them into new bosses.

The first memory sees Zana trying to get her father’s attention while he’s working and accidentally tipping over a candle, burning some of his books.

The books burn, he douses the flames and then angrily retaliates, yelling at her, at this moment she truly felt fear and that acts as a potent memory which has now malformed into her father turning into a boss named The Incarnation of Fear. The boss is strong, scary and physically powerful, depicting how she saw him in this moment.

The Incarnation of Fear is a physically powerful being capable of taking you down just using his fists. On top of that he is infused with intense flames that he can channel into powerful beams and spheres to block your movement and restrict your positioning.

This fight relies on you to intelligently consider where you are standing at all times, and make sure you aren’t restricting your playspace in a way that would result in your demise. All while trying to avoid his powerful physical attacks.

The second and third memories are similar, one is an Incarnation of Neglect, where he was lost in his work and thus ignoring Zana and refusing to give her attention.

The Incarnation of Neglect uses devices and machinery to his advantage. He summons powerful laser beams that will sweep through the arena, causing you to perform almost a dance to avoid dying.

Every so often he uses a number of puzzle boxes to do an advanced version of this skill, testing your reaction times and making sure you’re able to maneuver with precision.

If you’re able to survive these, he will channel powerful explosions and beams from his staff using shocking lightning and arctic ice magic, get hit by these and you will be slowed, or even frozen, and that will surely cause you to be eviscerated by the lasers.

Another is the Incarnation of Dread, a more positive memory, but one where she saw her father getting praise and being idolized by others. She was happy for him, but was afraid she would never achieve his standards and forever be in his shadow.

The Incarnation of Dread is a tactically complicated fight but one that is befitting of its role as a Pinnacle Boss. It uses a combination of all of the Elements and Chaos to try to defeat you.

Using its large limbs to slam you, tear you apart, all the way to using its neck which can literally split in two to create portals to summon magical homing projectiles it will prove formidable. Its most terrifying ability however is its bullet-hells, which will truly test the skill of the player as they must dodge and weave through waves of projectiles in order to stay alive, while trying to kill him and interrupt his abilities.

Each of these requires a well-designed, well-built and thought out endgame character to have the best chance. However, the world is your oyster, either invest heavily in defence to protect yourself from their disastrous abilities, or stack offence to try to burn them down quicker, or take something well-balanced in the middle and get the best of both worlds!

    Step into the Memories

In this Endgame storyline, you will meet a mysterious new character named Eagon, who is trying to discover his own origins. Using a gauntlet of his own creation, Eagon is able to link to memory threads and open portals to new areas for you to investigate. These areas are influenced by the same memories which created the pinnacle bosses, who wait for you at the end of each memory thread. Defeating them will grant you new unique items, memory-influenced maps, and new crafting currencies you can use to manipulate the influence these memories have on items.

  • The Chronicles of the Nightreign: The Beast of Three Heads

The Chronicles of the Nightreign: The Beast of Three Heads

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Our tale begins with a party of three, united against the encroaching dark. I, QuadonerBDTV, a Raider of Level 13, stood ready with my greatsword and a heavy, red-bladed axe. By my side were my trusted allies: Cerealkillerz, a Level 14 Sorcerer adorned in a wide-brimmed hat, and Butz, a Level 14 Hunter clad in scaled armor. Our combined powers granted us boons against the night: improved strength, heightened resistances, and the grim promise of sudden death upon our foes.

    Day One: The Sentinel’s Ambush

Our expedition led us into a desolate forest, a haunted swamp where the ground smoldered with an unnatural blue ghostflame. We were a vanguard of three, cutting through the lesser, fleshy spawn of the Night. But as we approached a crumbling mausoleum, the true nature of this cursed land revealed itself. It was a trap.

Without warning, three formidable figures charged from the mists: a mighty Tree Sentinel, its golden armor a stark contrast to the gloom, flanked by two swift Royal Cavalrymen, their spectral lances poised to strike. The battle was a whirlwind of chaos. I opened the assault with a thunderous blast from my Jar Cannon, the explosion echoing through the bare trees. The Sentinel, undeterred, retaliated with a terrifying display of power, its steed rearing up to unleash a shockwave of holy magic that tore through the earth and sent me reeling.

It was clear we couldn’t face them all at once. The call was made: focus fire. The Sorcerer, Cerealkillerz, unleashed a torrent of glintstone shards while Butz, the Hunter, rained down arrows. The combined assault was enough to shatter the two Royal Cavalrymen, their forms dissolving back into the ghostflame.

Now it was a duel. The lone Tree Sentinel, enraged, became even more ferocious. It unleashed devastating AOE attacks, one of fire and another of a blinding, explosive mist. It was a desperate dance of dodging and striking, but together, we overwhelmed the golden warrior.

    Session Spoils:

    • Runes Acquired: 18,632

    • Dormant Power Gained: The very essence of the land rewarded our victory, permanently augmenting our strength.

      • Improved Poise +38%

      • Increased Maximum HP +15%

      • Improved Physical Attack Power +9%

With our first great trial overcome, we took refuge in a spirit shelter, our first day’s harrowing journey complete.

    Day Two: The Cosmic Deep

Our path then led us to an impossible realm – an endless, dark sea beneath a sky swirling with stars and nebulae. From the abyss rose Maris, Fathom of Night, a colossal, jellyfish-like being of pure cosmic energy, its form shimmering with starlight and dread.

It was a battle against a force of nature. Maris summoned ethereal phantoms that drifted towards us, exploding on contact, while its main body unleashed waves of cosmic power and barrages of star-like projectiles. The fight was a disorienting ballet in the void, with my allies and I spreading out to divide its attention. Using my trusty red axe, I cleaved through the astral horror until it finally dissipated, its essence collapsing back into the starry sea.

    Session Spoils:

    • Item Acquired: Trace of Night

    • Runes Acquired: 2,473

Day Three: The Final Battle in the Ashen Wastes

The Trace of Night pulled us into our final destination: a desolate wasteland of ash and sand under a sky consumed by a dying, blood-red sun. This was the lair of the true beast. It was Gladus, Beast of Night, a titanic, three-headed, winged wolf bound in chains, its eyes burning with primordial malice.

The clash was apocalyptic. We charged, a unified front against a demigod. Gladus met our assault with savage fury, its three heads snapping and biting, its claws tearing up the ashen ground. It summoned a colossal skeleton warrior to fight by its side, forcing us to constantly re-evaluate our positions.

With a deafening roar, Gladus unleashed its second phase. The world turned to fire. The ground split open, revealing rivers of lava, and great pillars of flame erupted around us. The beast itself became wreathed in fire, charging and spewing infernos that turned the arena into a living hell. In the onslaught, I was struck down, my life hanging by a thread. I saw the words „Near death“ flash before my eyes. Just as a final, fiery breath was about to consume me, my loyal phantom, Berry, landed the killing blow.

The great beast convulsed and fell. NIGHTLORD FELLED. Victory was ours.

    Session Spoils:

    • Item Acquired: Trace of Night – „The qualities of the Nightlord.“

    • Runes Acquired: A massive bounty, bringing my total to 59,736.

    Epilogue: The New Challenger

Our triumph led us to a final, shocking revelation. We were transported to a ruined version of the Roundtable Hold, where we met a solemn figure in a white hood. „The Night has been vanquished,“ she spoke, her voice heavy with portent. „However… The Nightlord yet lives.“

With those words, she cast aside her disguise. She was The Duchess, a noble warrior with piercing eyes and a duelist’s rapier at her hip. She had seen our struggle, and it had stirred her to action. „Now,“ she declared, her resolve firm, „I’m ready to get my hands dirty.“

With a new warrior joining our cause, our quest was far from over. I used the spoils of our victory to advance to Level 12 and visited the merchant to purchase two Boiled Crabs, knowing the battles to come would be even more brutal. The hunt for the true Nightlord had just begun.

Elden Ring: Nightreign – A Full Run, Bosses, and Loot Breakdown

Alright, let’s break down this insane run in Elden Ring: Nightreign. The difficulty on this is no joke.

    Day 1: The Forest Ambush

I started my run in a creepy, ghostflame-filled forest, teamed up with my phantoms „Berry“ and „dxmel079.“ I was running a build with the Greatsword and the Jar Cannon. After fighting through some smaller fleshy mobs, we got ambushed by a three-man boss gank: a Tree Sentinel and two Royal Cavalrymen.

The fight was intense. I got caught by the Tree Sentinel’s massive earthquake stomp—the one where its horse rears up—and it sent me flying. The key was to focus-fire the two Royal Cavalrymen first. Once they were down, we could all dogpile the Sentinel. After a tough fight, we finally brought it down.

    • Loot & Stats Gained:

      • Runes: 18,632 from the boss fight.

      • Dormant Power (Permanent Buffs):

        • Improved Poise +38%

        • Increased Maximum HP +15%

        • Improved Physical Attack Power +9%

We hit the spirit shelter to lock in our progress for the day.

Day 3: The Beast of Night

The game skips to Day 3, and we’re immediately teleported to a surreal, white desert under a blood-red sky. This is where we found the true final boss of the run: Gladus, Beast of Night. This thing is a gigantic, three-headed winged wolf.

    • Phase 1: It hit like a truck with wide, sweeping attacks and even summoned a giant skeleton to help out. We had to split our attention between the two.

    • Phase 2: This is where things went wild. The entire arena transformed into a fiery hellscape with lava covering the ground. Gladus started breathing massive columns of fire and charging across the map. I got taken out and was down to my last sliver of health, but my phantom Berry managed to land the final blow. NIGHTLORD FELLED.

    • Loot & Stats Gained:

      • Item: Trace of Night – „The qualities of the Nightlord.“

      • Runes: A massive haul, bringing my total to 59,736.

    Epilogue: Unlocking The Duchess

After the victory, a cutscene triggers. We’re back in a ruined version of the Roundtable Hold. A mysterious woman in a white hood informs us that the „Nightlord“ still lives. She then reveals herself as The Duchess, a new playable character with a rapier and an agile combat style, saying, „Now I’m ready to get my hands dirty.“

    • New Character Unlocked: The Duchess.

    • Level Up: I used the runes to level up from 11 to 12.

    • Shop Run: Before starting the next expedition, I hit the merchant and bought 2x Boiled Crab for that crucial damage negation buff. I also went to the Relic Rites menu to optimize my build, checking out relics like „Night of the Beast“ and „Polished Luminous Scene.“

The run ended with a new character to try and a new target to hunt. What a session.

JDM JAPANESE DRIFT MASTERS , PAINT SHOP, SUSHI 🍣 AND SOME OPEN WORLD 🌏🎴

    Reading Time: < 1 minute

Alright, so here’s a look at my gameplay session in what looks like a super cool Japanese drifting game.

    Tricking Out My Ride

First thing I did was head to the paint shop with my classic Toyota AE86. The customization is really detailed! I played around with a bunch of different paint jobs, like a bright blue and a deep red, but in the end, I decided to keep the classic white look and just add a slick carbon-fiber hood.

After that, I spent a ton of time messing with the underglow. You can pick all sorts of wild RGB lighting patterns, from a flowing rainbow to a strobing lightning effect. I got the car looking just right with some cool, colorful lights underneath.

    Hitting the Streets

Once I was done in the garage, I took the AE86 out for a spin at night. I started by just tearing it up in a parking lot, getting a feel for the drifting and racking up some points.

Then I hit the open road, drifting through a small Japanese town full of neon signs, past a lakeside resort, and up some awesome winding mountain roads. The driving felt really fun and I was just enjoying the freedom of exploring the map.

    The Great Sushi Delivery Failure

Later, I decided to try a „Sushi Delivery“ side mission. The goal was simple: get the sushi delivered fast and in one piece. The game even gives you a „Sushi condition“ meter.

Well… I got a little too carried away. After a few collisions and a detour through some bushes, the sushi was completely destroyed. Needless to say, I failed the mission, big time!
