You’ll also be able to check out the first two chapters from NetherRealm’s cinematic Story mode, which introduces a new time-bending narrative continuing the epic saga that is more than 25 years in the making.

And last, but certainly not least, you’ll even be able to preview recently added Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack characters within the Towers of Time mode, including the powerful Terminator T-800 from the upcoming “Terminator: Dark Fate” film, the fierce Matoka warrior, Nightwolf and the soul-stealing sorcerer, Shang Tsung.

World of Warships: Legends Gears up for Halloween

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

World of Warships: Legends celebrates Halloween early with a new Campaign! Players can get started on the way to earning a free Halloween-themed premium ship and tons of rewards throughout October!

The Wicked Waves Campaign features the Jackal, a steampunk war machine with a unique playstyle. As a Tier III German Battleship, Jackal carries twelve 11-inch guns in a hexagonal layout used in early battleship designs. Jackal will also come with additional modification slots to help customize her playstyle. All this combined with solid armor, the Jackal is surprisingly flexible for a Tier III battleship, able to engage enemies all around her! On the way to earning her, players will receive plenty of other rewards to help them in-game—but the rewards don’t stop there!

If the player has Admiralty backing, they will also receive a ton of extra rewards and a unique event commander! Featured as a German Battleship Commander, Henry J. Hide is the perfect partner to Jackal! Hide brings new and unique skills to further optimize the Jackal, making them the perfect dynamic duo: Jackal & Hide.

There are 45 levels in the Wicked Waves campaign and two weeks to complete it! Jackal, Hide, and the other rewards are permanent, so go have fun and get yourself these unique items!

However, there’s more to Halloween than events and steampunk ships….

During Halloween the veils between the worlds are thin and can be easily parted to steal glimpses of the other side, or even cross over… It is a night of horror, mystic tales, and chilling stories. So why not start such a mystic journey right in World of Warships: Legends?

Starting October 28, World of Warships: Legends will allow players to take part in a special event. After selecting one of three event warships and their commander partners, players can take part in a cooperative operation where they must defend the Transylvania, a ship set to save Halloween! Things will quickly go downhill, as you will be fighting against a swarm of monstrous zombie ships! Surely you and your teammates will be up to the challenge, but will you be able to complete the extra objectives and defeat the final boss too? There are special rewards for participating in the mission, but these rewards become even greater when players complete the extra objectives and the entire mission! Earn Halloween containers, premium account time, and the coveted universal commendations!

In addition to Jackal & Hide, there will be more Halloween themed commanders and ships available in the in-game store. These ships and commanders will only be available during the Halloween season, so be sure to add them to your fleet! There will be more bonuses in event containers too! Holding anything from various boosters to universal commendations for your commanders, these containers also give you a chance to receive permanent Halloween camouflage for the Wakatake or the St. Louis!

World of WarshipsWorld of Warships World of WarshipsWorld of Warships

The Halloween celebrations come alongside the recent release of the French Navy, a powerful and unique tree of Cruisers and Battleships. The French cruisers are likened to evasive sharpshooters—able to deal damage from a distance, and keep that distance thanks to their speed. They are normally fitted with engine boost to help get them out (or into) sticky situations. French battleships had some of the most unique designs of the era, and have intense firepower and speed in-game, allowing them to flank enemies and rain shells from their epic quadruple-gun turrets. At higher tiers, the French battleships also get engine boost, making them some of the most flexible battleships in the game.

World of Warships: Legends is building steam and making headway, with more to come! Come join the fun and experience epic naval action today!

Indivisible is the latest game from Lab Zero Games, best known as the studio that created Skullgirls. Their latest production is an RPG/platformer featuring Lab Zero’s signature hand-drawn and hand-animated art style that gives the game a unique look and feel. With more than thirty voice actors, hand-animated sequences, challenging platforming areas and a unique style of combat, Indivisible is an experience you won’t want to miss.

Indivisible features Ajna, a rebellious young girl who finds her world turned upside down after her home is attacked and a mysterious power within her is awakened. As she journeys across the world of Loka to find answers and revenge, she meets a wide cast of characters who join her quest.

    IndivisibleIndivisible

These “Incarnations” are drawn into Ajna’s Inner Realm (sometimes reluctantly) and appear when needed. Each new member brings their own unique skills and abilities to the fight, so choosing who joins the fray alongside Ajna is critical as you journey into deeper and more dangerous parts of the world.

Ajna learns new skills as she discovers more about herself and meets more Incarnations. Mastering new skills help her navigate the world, reach new heights (literally) and discover additional areas to explore.

  • The Future of Atlas on Xbox Game Preview, Available Today on Xbox One

The Future of Atlas on Xbox Game Preview, Available Today on Xbox One

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

When I talk to players about Atlas, there’s one phrase I often hear: “Atlas could be my perfect game.”

As a developer, it’s very exciting to hear so many people express that opinion. You can’t help but think “Wow, people really love what our game has to offer.” But when you work on an Xbox Game Preview title, you also have to recognize that the operative words in that phrase are “could be.”

    ATLASATLAS

When players start joining the game today on Xbox One, they’ll experience the most polished, most stable, and most fun version of this massive pirate adventure to date. But it’s not the final version of the game. On the contrary: for the development team, the Xbox One release marks just the beginning of our continued efforts to make Atlas the ultimate pirate experience!

In Atlas, you’ll discover all sorts of unique gameplay, which I collectively like to call “true piracy.” On most official servers the rules are simple: if you can get your hands on it, you can take it. Want that player’s ship over there? Defeat the crew in combat and it’s all yours. That island on the horizon look inviting? Claim it and build your own hideout there. Our fully persistent world means that the actions you take and the structures you build stick around for everyone else to see (which means there’s always more loot to plunder). The real question: do you have what it takes to survive in this cutthroat environment and become a pirate legend?

    ATLASATLAS

With crossplay enabled between Xbox One and Steam PC, we’re thrilled to be connecting Xbox players with all of our existing scallywags so that everyone can have new pirate adventures together. Join us on our official forums (playatlas.com), our official Discord channel (discord.gg/playatlas), and on social media to be a part of the conversation throughout Atlas’ Xbox Game Preview development. Tell us what you love, what you think needs improvement, and what sort of things you’d like to see next. Your input is very important to us.

The dev team is already hard at work on numerous quality of life improvements, bug fixes, balance tweaks, and performance increases across the board — many directly inspired by player feedback and all of which will have our full attention in the months to come. Past that, we’ll be focusing on the ship/sailing aspects of the game to make being a pirate at sea feel even more exciting and memorable.

    ATLASATLAS

We’ll see you all on the high seas and we can’t wait to work together to create an experience that, we hope, you’ll be able to call your “perfect game,” too.

Atlas is available now for Xbox One on the Microsoft Store as an Xbox Game Preview title. Click here for purchase details.

Pets Lift Pirates’ Spirits Ahead of October’s Spooky Sea of Thieves Update

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

October has just arrived, and inevitably brings with it Halloween and the anticipation of gaming events given a certain graveyard twist. Sea of Thieves is set to continue this tradition with its next Monthly Content Update – Fort of the Damned, a challenging event arriving on Wednesday October 16th, echoing last year’s popular Festival of the Damned.

These are chilling times indeed, but thankfully many Sea of Thieves players will be sailing into October with hearts warmed by the pets introduced in our previous Monthly Content Update. September saw Smuggler’s Fortune throw open the doors to the Pirate Emporium, putting furry and feathered friends on sale for the first time.

A huge 98% of people who’ve spent Ancient Coins (Sea of Thieves’ new premium currency) so far have picked up a pet. Parrots have just pipped monkeys to the post as early Pirate Emporium favourites with 52.4% of sales, with the Parakeet the most popular pet breed overall, and Blue Moon Parakeet the most popular of these; of the monkeys, the White Beard Capuchin has been our players’ top pick.

Of course, all this variety in pets is nothing compared to the variety in pet names, so if you’re curious about what most people are calling their Sea of Thieves parrots and monkeys, here’s the current combined top 10:

    1. Jack
    2. Rafiki
    3. Polly
    4. Blue
    5. Mango
    6. George
    7. Luna
    8. Steve
    9. Shadow
    10. Bob

Disney-inspired monkey names have naturally proven popular, with Rafiki in second place and Abu very narrowly missing the top 10. There have also been 177 Jack Sparrows and 120 Barbossas, inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean – in fact, fans with a good memory might wonder if a certain iconic line is the reason why Jack took the number one spot.

Names inspired by Sea of Thieves developers and Rare’s rich gaming history also surfaced quickly. Antonio was sure to do well, following our Pirate Emporium preview stream and the monkey who stole the show by having a little incident on host Jon’s shoulder:

    • 153 pets named Joe Neate
    • 136 pets named Kazooie
    • 70 pets called Antonio
    • 70 pets called Donkey Kong

Names inspired by general pop culture proved similarly popular:

    • 340 pets named Harambe (the gorilla)
    • 248 pets named Winston (Overwatch)
    • 233 pets named Marcel (Friends)
    • 149 pets named Curious George (the character)
    • 118 pets named Marty McFly (Back to the Future)
    • 94 pets named Loki (Marvel’s Avengers/Norse mythology)
    • 48 pets named Pidgey (Pokémon)

Pets seem to have captured the imagination of content creators too, something that we’re keen to embrace with programmes like the Sea of Thieves Creator Crew, also launched last month. Much-loved Twitter account @CanYouPetTheDog quickly gathered 68k likes (and counting) on a clip demonstrating how pets can be fired out of cannons. Meanwhile, popular Sea of Thieves content creator Captain Falcore produced a helpful guide to pets and all things Pirate Emporium, while honouring Antonio the monkey’s moment of glory – just like this fan-made T-shirt featured in Sea of Thieves’ thriving Design by Humans Fan Shop.

Fans are encouraged to keep sharing these fantastic screenshots and clips, with a new social competition aimed at showcasing the best! Submit your best pet pic or clip by tagging @SeaOfThieves on Twitter or @RareLtd on Instagram and including the hashtag #PetsOfThieves. Five winners will be chosen to win the Bird & Bear Collector’s Edition Figurehead and Sails! The competition is live now, running until 00:00 BST on October 16th. For more information, see the terms and conditions here.

Find out more about Fort of the Damned on the official Sea of Thieves website and social channels. Fort of the Damned is free for all players who bought Sea of Thieves on the Xbox One family of devices or on Windows 10 PC, or who have access to it as part of Xbox Game Pass. This update arrives on Wednesday October 16th and will bring new additions to the Pirate Emporium and Black Market too – pet fans should watch out for a spooky surprise!

New to Sea of Thieves? Join the adventure with Xbox Game Pass or on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. If you haven’t tried Xbox Game Pass yet, join today to get your first month for $1 and get access to over 100 great games, with new titles being added all of the time. Prospective pirates can learn more at xbox.com/seaofthieves or visit SeaofThieves.com to embark on an epic journey with one of gaming’s most welcoming communities.

Top 5 Ways to Stay Alive in Worse Than Death

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Hey there, Xbox fans! We are a mom-and-pop indie studio from Toronto, Canada, and we’ve been making spooky, story-rich and thoughtful games for a decade now. Our newest title, Worse Than Death, launches today and is our first foray into the Xbox family.

Worse Than Death is an action-adventure horror game about a high school reunion that goes horribly wrong. It combines brain-tickling puzzles with tense, side-scrolling exploration and stealth. As the game’s main character, Holly, you must find your best friend Flynn, escape dangerous monsters that you can’t quite see, and uncover the terrible secrets of your home town.

    Worse Than DeathWorse Than Death

It’s all designed to play super-smooth and freak you out. So if this is the first time you’ve heard of the game, here are five solid tips to make sure you and Holly make it out alive:

    1) Be a good listener

At the beginning of the game, Holly will — begrudgingly — speak with some of her former classmates at her high school reunion. These moments kick off some important plot points — many of which will be key for you achievement-seekers who want to uncover every secret the game has tucked away.

    2) Mind your surroundings

You may not be face-to-face with a creepy, wailing something that is roaming the halls just yet, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t pay attention — a well-placed hiding spot that you come across (like a locker to squeeze into, or a desk you can crawl under) might just save your life in the next few moments. Look for the action prompts that let you know you can hide somewhere, in case you have to make a mad dash to safety!

    Worse Than DeathWorse Than Death

    3) Follow your heart

As Holly encounters the unseen horrors that have infested her home town, she’ll let you know all sorts of useful information — when a monster is near, the room will get cold, and she’ll become apprehensive. The closer the monster is, the faster her heart will beat. The game’s main UI element — the “panic bar” — at the bottom of your screen will become increasingly crimson and thump in time with Holly’s heartbeat, alerting you to immediate danger. You’ll even feel Holly’s heart beat through your controller!

    4) Don’t worry if you forget something

Did you just return to the game after taking a break? Not entirely sure what you should do? Pausing the game with the Menu Button will also bring up Holly’s thoughts — which will usually include a reminder of what you were just doing as a little hint. Worse Than Death is designed to keep you moving, and this tiny nudge can help put you right back on track.

    Worse Than DeathWorse Than Death

    5) Play in the dark

Though it’s got humor and some real heartfelt moments, Worse Than Death is, of course, a horror game! So turn off the lights, turn up the sound, and don’t worry — we won’t tell anyone if you get scared.

We hope this helps you enjoy our newest indie title, and we hope you enjoy hunting down those achievements and surviving Holly’s story. See you at the reunion!

We Visit Afterparty’s Hell One More Time Before Its October 29 Release with Xbox Game Pass

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

We don’t want to surprise anyone, but the Hell of Afterparty can be a little messed up.

At a recent preview event in San Francisco, developer Night School Studio gave us the opportunity to sit down with the game largely as players will get to experience it in just a few short weeks when it comes to Xbox One and with Xbox Game Pass on October 29.

    AfterpartyAfterparty

Things start off at an end-of-college mixer that evokes awkward coming of age humor of movies like “Booksmart” and shows like “Freaks and Geeks.” It’s a smart, almost horror movie oriented intro — main characters Lola and Milo are young, messed up, awkward, funny people with a lifetime’s worth of relationship in-jokes, and anyone who’s felt remotely out of place will probably be able to relate at least a little to how painful things are.

And that’s before everything goes sideways, and, of course, downways.

    AfterpartyAfterparty

If there’s one thing that Afterparty makes clear, over and over, it’s that things just aren’t what they seem. Whether that’s Hell, the people in it, or what they do there, there’s multiple levels — rings, if you prefer — to everything. And much of that is going to depend on the decisions the player is making for the ways in which Lola and Milo respond to the things going on around them.

This is complicated by booze, because even in Hell, drinking makes everything more complicated. Or maybe simpler? Either way, Lola and Milo are frequently given the option to drink, which in turns provides additional dialogue options during the regular conversations they have with the denizens and unwitting patrons of Hell. It’s not just about being a little buzzed in Afterparty. Different drinks enable entirely different conversation strategies, whether they be “romantic,” drunkenly confident, or a host of other options tied to the drink mixing bible of Hell.

    AfterpartyAfterparty

Milo and Lola will need the drinks to deal with, well, Hell.

Afterparty‘s Hell isn’t your usual afterlife punishment. It’s disarmingly banal after a welcome party that leans into the “of your own making” part of the old saying, and it’s also, apparently, aggressively unionized. Hell has a strict workday schedule, and everyone sticks to it: humans, demons, and devils. Lola and Milo show up just as the work day is ending and are left to figure out just what Hell is. They meet people who seem personable and nice, accommodating, even supportive of the pair as they try to get their bearings, only to realize that those people are maybe down there for a reason.

    AfterpartyAfterparty

Some of those reasons seem awfully petty, but others are unexpectedly shocking — hence the messed up thing I mentioned before. Serial killers seem like they’re just the start of what Afterparty has lined up, and even early on, Night School is unafraid to tie it to a punchline. It’s not for the fainthearted, and you might feel a little guilty for laughing.

Lola and Milo get to Hell with just 19 or 20 memories of their life, other than a very basic understanding of who they are. They don’t remember how they died, and as importantly, they don’t remember why they’re in Hell. Milo and Lola’s goal is to get out of Hell via an ancient loophole: if you can outdrink Satan, you get to go back to Earth, back to living, just like nothing happened. But something tells us Milo and Lola aren’t going to get back without learning more than they’d like about just how they got to Hell in the first place. And, you know — it’s Hell! It’s probably not going to be great.

We can all find out more soon, whether Milo and Lola want to or not. Afterparty launches on Xbox One and with Xbox Game Pass on October 29.

  • Introducing App and Game Limits for Family Settings

Introducing App and Game Limits for Family Settings

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

The new school year is well under way, and as families continue to balance homework and after school activities with screen time, Xbox is here to help. We’re continuously studying ways to improve children’s safety online and to give you, their parents or guardians, the tools to help ensure their wellbeing throughout their online interactions in the digital world.

Late last year, we detailed the many easy-to-use features built into your Microsoft account to give you peace of mind with family settings for screen time limits, purchase limits, content filters, and privacy settings.

Today, we’d like to share with you some of the additional steps we’ve taken to improve our existing family settings. We’re giving you more control over what your children see and interact with on the devices in your home, which is part of our commitment to make gaming a fun, inclusive, and safe experience for everyone. For us, that means offering tools that provide choice so families can create the right balance of screen time in their lives.

    Improved Family Settings

We’ve updated our existing family settings to now include app and game limits to cap how much time your children can use specific apps or games. You can activate this feature across the devices tied to your child’s account, which is connected to your Microsoft family group. Creating a family group is an easy and important first step! The feature is currently available in preview release, and we are eager to hear your feedback so we can continue to refine the experience for your family.

For example, you can choose to set one hour of game time for Ark: Survival Evolved each day and two hours for Netflix. Prior to this, you could set broad screen time limits (three hours on Xbox One), whereas now you can determine what specific apps or games are playable or not playable within that timeframe. These app and game limits are shared across Xbox One, Windows 10, and Android via Microsoft Launcher devices and work on all child and teen accounts. You may be wondering about accessing websites through a browser. While the new app and game limits only apply to apps and games – which does not include the app’s website – you can choose to filter websites through the currently available family settings.

Meeting the Needs of Parents Today

In the past year, we’ve also updated family settings on Xbox to empower parents and guardians to enable or block their child’s access to play or communicate with players on other networks. You can modify this setting in supported games on any child or teen account (defaulted to off for child accounts). These features can be found under your Microsoft account on Windows 10 or Xbox One. Simply select the account you’d like to update, and then enable or block cross-play/cross-network communication.

These cross-play settings are currently available for Fortnite, Rocket League, Dauntless and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and we expect other games will enable them, as well.

We’ve also made it easier to set up a child account on Xbox One. You now only need to add your e-signature to provide consent for your child to have a Microsoft account — credit cards are no longer required for verification.

It’s important to us to continually update our family settings to ensure they fit the unique needs of families today.

    Balancing Work and Play

Every Microsoft family account can choose to receive a weekly activity report — sent to both you and your child — which contains an overview of how much time was spent on apps, games, and websites. The activity reports provide transparency in how your children are engaging with Xbox One, Windows 10 devices and Android running with Microsoft Launcher and empower you to set limits and features that you feel are the best fit for your family.

When your child reaches the end of their screen time permitted for a specific app or game, they have the option to request additional time, which you can choose to allow or deny through your Microsoft account.

You know what’s best for your family; no technology can ever replace that. The right tools can help make parenting easier and family settings on Xbox does this by putting parents in control of what your children can access across the platform.

October 2019 Xbox Update Delivers New Family Settings Features, Wish List Notifications, and More

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

October is here and we know many gamers are already spending quality time with their favorite horror games (we won’t judge if you turn the brightness up). But never fear, we’re here to share lots of new features and improvements with the October 2019 Xbox One Update, which begins rolling out to everyone today. This month’s update unveils new Family Settings options to balance your family’s screen time, Wish List notifications, improvements to the Mixer viewing experience on Xbox One, the ability to refer Xbox Game Pass titles to friends, and even more improvements based on your feedback. Read on for a breakdown on each new feature and update.

App and game limits for Family Settings

With the October 2019 Xbox Update, we’re taking additional steps to improve our existing family settings that work across Xbox One and Windows devices. We’re giving parents more control over what their children see and interact with on the devices in your home, which is part of our commitment to make gaming a fun, inclusive, and safe experience for everyone. For us, that means offering tools that provide choice so families can create the right balance of screen time in their lives.

With the new app and game limits feature, we introduce two new key elements to screen time:

    • Parents can now set how much time their children spend within specific apps or games in addition to the total time spent on a device. Parents have the added option to set limits at the app or game level, enabling you to be more specific with how your kids are spending their time with technology.
    • The app and game limits you set will apply across Windows devices and Xbox One. We want to provide families the convenience of setting this up once, and letting it carry over across your child’s devices. This means one hour of a specific game or app per day is one hour of that game or app – no trying to sneak in extra screen time by switching from one device to another.

Check out today’s Family Settings announcement for a full overview.

    Wish List notifications

We’re excited to see everyone enjoying the Wish List feature on the Microsoft Store! The October 2019 Xbox Update enhances this feature with notifications to alert you when an item in your Wish List has a price discount. The new Wish List notifications will make sure you never miss a great deal on games you want. Check out and update your current Wish List here.

    Mixer viewing improvements

Mixer is integrating even further into the Xbox One experience with the October update. We’ve built a full Mixer viewing experience right into the dashboard with a focus on speed and simplicity. Viewers will no longer have to navigate to a separate app to enjoy Mixer streams, so getting to the content you want to watch has never been easier! Simply click the stream you’d like to watch to seamlessly start watching.

Recommend an Xbox Game Pass title

Games are more fun when shared with friends. Xbox Game Pass for Console has a curated library of over 100 high-quality games, so you may find a gem that you want to share with your friends. You can now recommend a game from Xbox Game Pass for Console directly to your friend via a message or to your whole community via your activity feed or share to a club. Your friends will be able to easily get to the page for the games you recommend and can start downloading right away if they are an Xbox Game Pass member.

    Recent Players improvements

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve made significant improvements to the Recent Players experience, making the service more reliable and allowing you to connect with the gamers you play with instantly. We understand the popularity of this feature and know it can be especially helpful with large-scale multiplayer games. You can now more quickly and easily engage with your Recent Players, whether you are sending a message, inviting players to a party, or adding them to your Friends List.

    Under-the-hood game update improvements

Players can jump into their favorite games even faster with the October update. We’ve added improvements to automatic game updates, significantly reducing when you encounter the “update required” screen when launching a title.

    Events app

Later this month, you may notice the Events app installed on your console. With Events, we will be introducing new ways for gamers to discover and be reminded of events happening within your favorite Xbox games or gaming communities such as a start of a new season or in-game holiday events. We’ll have more to share soon about how we plan to evolve this feature, so stay tuned for future announcements.

More flexible Capture Settings and Capture & Share experiment

The “Allow game captures” setting now has multiple options, giving you more control over your game capture experience. Previously, game capture could either be enabled or disabled in Settings, with certain games automatically recording memorable moments when this feature was enabled. With the October update, you may now select between “Captures by me,” “Captures by me or games,” or “Don’t capture” settings, providing you more choice over how you build your highlight reel.

In addition to the above, some people may also see an experimental update we are making to improve the Capture & Share experience. For now, we’re rolling out an improved “Capture & Share” tab for a limited portion of the Xbox One audience to gauge interest and collect feedback. We’re eager to hear their feedback before we share more.

The renamed “Capture & Share” Guide tab aims to improve usability by elevating your three capture options, “Record what happened,” “Start recording,” and “Capture screenshot,” to the top of the screen as well as allowing you to quickly revisit your last capture. When you’re ready to share, the following “Share to” menu has also been updated to focus more on what you want to do with your content – quickly and easily share it with your friends, the world via Twitter or your Xbox Activity Feed, or save it in your collection for safekeeping.

These updates are possible because of the Xbox Insiders who have helped shape these features, so big thanks to all participants for their valuable input. If you’d like to help shape the future of Xbox and provide feedback on early features, download the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox One or Windows 10 PC today. You can also visit the Xbox Insider Blog here for the latest release notes, or join the Xbox Insiders subreddit to submit feedback and join the discussion.

We’re always working to improve your gaming experience on Xbox One and will have more announcements in store before the year is done. Stay tuned for more information and enjoy the October update!

    Audio

    • Users who have Dolby Atmos enabled and console display settings set to 120hz with 36 bits per pixel (12-bit) are experiencing loss of Dolby Atmos audio in some situations.
      • Workaround: Disable 120hz or set Video Fidelity to 30 bits per pixel (10-bit) or lower.

      • Note: This is an issue with the Dolby Access app and the app developers are aware and investigating.

    My Games & Apps

    • Users have reported seeing an “Xbox Events” app in their collection.
      • Note: This app will be used to experiment with a new Events experience to showcase in-game events. We’ll have more to share when the feature is ready for Preview.

    System

    • Some users have reported the console shutting down unexpectedly while using Netflix.
      • Note: The console may take longer to reboot/shut down than normal. This is expected behavior, please do not power off the console manually.  There is essential information being collected to investigate the cause of the issue.

    • Users are reporting that the Idle Screen is activating when watching streaming content on the console.

Work has started on a new Xbox Insider Hub experience

    Reading Time: 4 minutes

Greetings Xbox Insiders! The Xbox Insider Program is on the cusp of something exciting, and we want to bring you along for the ride. We want to demonstrate our commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and of course, listening to you! We are pleased to announce that work has begun on a new version of the Xbox Insider Hub – one with the goal of being faster, better organized, and simpler to navigate, all with a different yet familiar user interface. This isn’t just an update to the current Hub, this is an all new app built from the ground up.

One of the most frequent pieces of feedback we hear about the app itself is that new content and updates are hidden behind too many button clicks, so we’re creating this new Xbox Insider Hub with the goal of getting you to the content you care about faster. This is an Xbox Insider Hub that you have already helped design through your feedback to us. We want to continue that cycle of feedback and will be inviting you to flight it when we have a build ready in the next few months.

Along with this new Xbox Insider Hub, you may notice several service changes that we’re making in order to accommodate the new development. This includes the ways in which we’ll be asking for your feedback on experiences across Xbox. As a matter of fact, many of you have already noticed one of our first changes and filed a few bugs about it. (Thank you! We love that you’re watching!)

To create a simpler experience, one of the first things we’re changing is the way we use surveys. If you look at all the ways we ask you a question and then get feedback, you’ll notice three very similar vehicles used in the past:  the Survey, the Quick Poll, and the Rating. In essence, these three things are the same:

    • A Quick Poll was simply a one question survey.
    • A Rating was also a one question survey, shown in a special way.
    • The Survey is a well understood thing:  As a question, or multiple questions, and get an answer from the people who care the most.

We’ve decided that combining all three of these tools into one, the Survey, would make the most intuitive sense. In the past, each of these different types had their own distinct use and designation within Xbox Insider Services (the back-end software that powers the Xbox Insider Hub). Because we have the opportunity to make positive changes to the way our services call these feedback types, we’ve begun deprecating (removing) the Rating and the Quick Poll types, in favor of broader usage of the plainly named “Survey.”

You’ve probably noticed a pattern to both Ratings and Quick Polls.  Ratings were star based – choose one answer from a list of between one and five stars. Quick polls were multiple choice, allowing you to choose one answer among a list of multiple choices. Surveys, however, could be one question or multiple, could have branching logic, and could be answered with freetext, multiple choice, multi-select, or other creative means. Ratings and Quick Polls had very specific uses, which is why they were created as their own type. As the Xbox Insider Hub has evolved, so too has the survey functionality to encompass everything these two other types included.

It will take some time for us to incorporate Surveys in the way we used Ratings and Quick Polls in the past, which in transparency means a temporary period where those quick, 5 XP awards won’t be available. Once we have this transition work done, you’ll begin to see the new surveys used in nearly the same way as Ratings and Quick Polls, though their location will be slightly different. We always encourage you to use Report a problem for bug reports or to alert us when you encounter anything unexpected. Because Ratings won’t be used in quite the same way in the future, it is even more important to use Report a problem to let us know about any quality issues that you experience.

As always, we welcome your feedback. The roadmap for this new Xbox Insider Hub is expected to take us into the first part of 2020, and as above, we’re planning to allow you to test a build once we have one ready to show. Keep watching the Blog and the r/XboxInsiders subreddit for more info.

Thank you, Xbox Insiders, for everything that you do. Your power and ability to shape the future of Xbox is awesome, and we hope to make your experience within the Xbox Insider Hub better than ever.

Microsoft and the Xbox team have been wonderful partners to work with when we kicked off our Surviving franchise with Surviving Mars in 2018. Our team has worked hard to give players a unique survival colony builder on Xbox One as well as integrating feedback from our community since the game’s launch. After the Green Planet expansion launched in May of this year, Surviving Mars saw more than eight times the amount of monthly active players on all platforms, including Xbox One, and even surpassed its launch player peak by 19 percent!

This was no small feat and we knew we were doing something that resonated with Xbox players.

With that level of growth, we hear you loud and clear. You want more games that challenge you in unique ways. Games that evolve as the as you play them and enable you to think creatively while reacting to new situations. Games that will ask you to survive against all the odds in an impossible situation.

Surviving Mars was just the beginning of the Surviving brand for us and we can’t wait to share more details about Surviving the Aftermath with all of you on October 19 during our annual PDXCON event!

Me, You, Walkie Talkies, and a Whole Lot of Puzzles in We Were Here Too

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

How many lost Antarctic explorers can one sinister castle hold? In the case of Castle Rock in our series of cooperative puzzle adventures, the answer is at least six! We Were Here Too is the second game in the series, following We Were Here which released in September!

So after meeting the first two explorers in We Were Here, you will run into two more explorers in We Were Here Too! The premise for the game is the same, at first glance: two explorers find themselves trapped inside a mysterious castle by a fierce blizzard. Once inside, they become split up. Only their walkie-talkies and their wits will enable them to work together and find a way out…

But don’t be fooled! We Were Here Too is still about solving puzzles, but you won’t be re-treading any of your steps from the first game. Every puzzle is new, and the parts of the castle you are exploring haven’t been seen by living eyes for a long, long time. Have a look at some of the new areas in the trailer.

You will need to stay sharp and keep your eyes open as you progress through the icy hallways of Castle Rock. Details that might seem insignificant or random to you might be the key to making sense of something your partner sees! As you play We Were Here Too you can expect to start thinking a little differently about your surroundings. Instead of looking for good cover spots, sniper nests or traps, you’ll be seeking patterns, hidden messages, and clues.

This isn’t to say that there’s no danger lurking within Castle Rock. You should still be cautious if you value your life, but you’ll need fast thinking rather than a fast trigger finger to keep yourself in one piece. Hopefully you found someone smart to play with! Playing with a friend has all the usual advantages, but we’ve heard enough stories about people playing with strangers and forging real connections in their time spent in Castle Rock.

Perhaps the most important thing though – do you trust your partner? You’ll need to work together to make it to the exit, but once you’re there, what happens if one of you has an easy way out? Would you wait to try and help your friend escape, or would you leave them to rot? If the tables are turned, do you trust your friend not to abandon you…? Better find out in We Were Here Too!

So for those that paid great attention, you might think we made a mistake by mentioning six explorers at the start of the post. Well not really… we’re very excited to announce that our upcoming new title We Were Here Together has also been confirmed as getting an Xbox One release – that’ll bring the total up to six explorers. Unlucky for them, but very lucky for puzzle fans!

    Happy escaping!

Both We Were Here and We Were Here Too (in fact, all the We Were Here games for that matter) are standalone entries, meaning you can play them in any order you please.

We Were Here Too is available now for Xbox One on the Microsoft Store. Click here for purchase details.
