Capcom plans to have an open beta ready for the online game near the launch of the PS4 in Japan, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said on Twitter.

Sony’s next-generation PlayStation will be released on Feb. 22, 2014 in Japan. While online multiplayer games will typically require PS4 owners to be PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony is waiving that requirement for free-to-play software, leaving the decision up to publishers.

Deep Down made its publicly playable debut at TGS this week, drawing long lines as one of the few next-generation titles available at the show from Japanese developers.

Deep Down will feature procedurally generated dungeons and runs on Capcom’s new „Panta Rhei“ engine. Despite the dark fantasy environments, the game will in fact take place in New York circa 2094.
