Marcelo Ávila de Oliveira likes to practice basketball, and while most of us would be content to shoot and hopefully improve, he actually tracks his workouts. While figuring out the number of made baskets, misses, times, etc. is useful, it’s also quite boring and difficult, so he came up with a real-time scoreboard system to take care of this for him.
The device is mounted to an enclosure under the hoop, and uses an IR proximity sensor poking through Jerry West’s head to know when a ball has gone through. It also employs a vibration sensor to detect if the ball has hit the rim, and if the IR sensor isn’t triggered within three seconds, a miss is counted.
The setup’s Arduino Mega communicates with a custom smartphone app over Bluetooth, and displays statistics on the practice session. It even plays notification sounds for scores and misses, as shown in the video below.

To win control over nearby sectors and the rest of the planet, carefully choose your friends (and foes) in the world and ensure your path to victory. Not all battles need to be won through conquest on the battlefield, though – players can also succeed through advanced technology or diplomatic means.
To fully reign their empire over the planet, factions can win with a few different types of victories:
- Last Man Standing Victory – Defeat all non-allied players by capturing their HQ and the Commander
- Territory Victory – Conquer a set percentage of the planet’s sectors
- Doomsday Tech Victory – Dependent on your choice of Secret Technology, race to build and deploy this tech worldwide
- Unifier Victory – Gain a set percentage of influence with the survivors on the planet

Vasara Collection Lands on PS4, PS Vita August 13
Reading Time: 4 minutesArcades were a huge part of my life as a gamer in the 80’s and 90’s, eventually paving the way for all those games we would play on home consoles without having to spend all of our hard-earned quarters.
Fighting games, beat ‘em ups, shoot ‘em ups, and many other genres would almost always come to the arcades first, and only a few months later be ported to the home consoles of the time. And then there were those games that never made the transition.
Vasara was one such game. Released by Visco in the year 2000, it was a shoot ‘em up based on an alternate Japanese history and made use of some very unique game mechanics. Relying heavily on melee techniques to succeed in a shoot ‘em up? That’s what I call thinking outside the box.
Little did I know that eighteen years later we, QUByte Interactive, would have the honor — and huge responsibility — of bringing that game that amazed us all back then to a whole new audience for the very first time.
When we first approached Visco, the original developer, with the idea of porting Vasara to the PlayStation family, we knew how much they cherished those games and were very glad they trusted us with such a beloved franchise.
Flash forward to August 2019 and, after a long and challenging period of development, here we are with Vasara Collection finally coming to both PS4 and PS Vita, each with their own exclusive features.
- Classics Vasara and Vasara 2 in a single package: Vasara Collection on the PS Vita brings the two original games, with the option to enable quite a few quality-of-life features of modern gaming.
- Tate Mode support: To those who prefer a taste of that original arcade flavor, the PS Vita version offers support to play in Vertical Mode, with fully adapted controls, so you can play Vasara in its original screen format. Make sure you always keep that wrist strap on while playing. 😉
- Full Support for PlayStation TV: We wanted to make sure we explored the full range of possibilities the PS Vita version had to offer, so we made the game fully compatible with PS TV, including multiplayer support, so you can also enjoy your PS Vita version of Vasara Collection with a friend on the big screen.
- Brand-new 3D Game Mode: As for Vasara Collection on PS4, not only it does include both classic titles, but also an exclusive Game Mode, completely built from scratch with 3D graphics — Timeless Mode.
Timeless Mode is a modern twist on Vasara, with full support to widescreen monitors, new gameplay elements and expanded multiplayer support. Arcades waren ein großer Teil meines Lebens als Spieler in den 80er und 90er Jahren und ebneten schließlich den Weg für all die Spiele, die wir auf Heimkonsolen spielen würden, ohne all unser hart erarbeitetes Geld ausgeben zu müssen.
Kampfspiele, Beat’em ups, Shoot’em ups und viele andere Genres erschienen fast immer zuerst in den Arcades und wurden einige Monate später erst auf die Heimkonsolen der damaligen Zeit portiert. Und dann gab es diese Spiele, die nie den Übergang geschafft haben.
Vasara war ein solches Spiel. Von Visco im Jahr 2000 veröffentlicht, war es ein Shoot’em up, das auf einer alternativen japanischen Geschichte basierte und einige sehr einzigartige Spielmechanismen nutzte. Sich stark auf Nahkampftechniken verlassen, um bei einem Shoot’em up erfolgreich zu sein? Das nenne ich über den Tellerrand schauen.
Ich wusste nicht, dass wir, QUByte Interactive, achtzehn Jahre später die Ehre – und eine große Verantwortung – haben würden, dieses Spiel, das uns damals alle verblüfft hat, zum ersten Mal einem ganz neuen Publikum vorzustellen.
Als wir uns zum ersten Mal an Visco, den ursprünglichen Entwicklern, mit der Idee wandten, Vasara auf die PlayStation-Familie zu portieren, wussten wir, wie sehr sie diese Spiele schätzten, und waren sehr froh, dass sie uns eine so beliebte Serie anvertrauten.
Wir freuen uns auf August 2019 und nach einer langen und herausfordernden Entwicklungszeit sind wir bei der Vasara Collection gelandet, die endlich sowohl PS4 als auch PS Vita mit jeweils eigenen exklusiven Features erreicht.
- Die Klassiker Vasara und Vasara 2 in einem einzigen Paket: Die Vasara Collection auf der PS Vita bringt die beiden Originalspiele mit, mit der Option, etliche Komfortfunktionen des modernen Gamings zu ermöglichen.

Raspberry Pi Sense HAT impact recorder for your car

Raspberry Pi Sense HAT
The Raspberry Pi Sense HAT was originally designed for the European Astro Pi Challenge, inviting schoolchildren to code their own experiments for two Raspberry Pi units currently orbiting the Earth upon the International Space Station.
The Sense HAT is kitted out with an 8×8 RGB LED matrix and a five-button joystick, and it houses an array of useful sensors, including an accelerometer and gyroscope.
And it’s these two sensors that Instructables user Ashu_d has used for their Impact Recorder for Vehicles.
Impact Recorder for Vehicles
“Impact Recorder is designed to record impact sustained to a vehicle while driving or stationary,” Ashu_d explains. Alongside the Raspberry Pi and Sense HAT, the build also uses a Raspberry Pi Camera Module to record footage, saving video and/or picture files to the SD card for you to examine after a collision. “The impacts are stored in the database in the form of readings as well as video/picture.”
By following Ashu_d’s Instructables tutorial, you’re essentially building yourself a black box for your car, recording impact data as the Sense HAT records outside the standard parameters of your daily commute.
“Upon impact, remote users can be verified in real time,” they continue, “and remote users can then watch the saved video or take remote access to the Pi Camera Module and watch events accordingly.”
Ashu_d goes into great detail on how to use Node-RED and MQTT to complete the project, how you can view video in real time using VLC, and how each element works to create the final build over at Instructables.

After obtaining an industrial distance sensor, TUENHIDIY decided to use it as the basis for an interesting visual indicator.
The device communicates with an Arduino Uno via an RS-485 module, and outputs distance values in the form of a 9 x 14 pixel display made out of discrete LEDs soldered onto an LoL Shield.
As shown in the video be low, it does a good job of sensing how far an object is from it on a table, and the 126 LEDs provide a nice brilliant display.
Code for the build can be found on GitHub if you’d like to make something similar. Seeing as though the sensor used here will set you back close to $1,000, you may want to also consider alternatives like an HC-SR04 ultrasonic module instead!

When you buy—or even salvage—limit switches for electronics projects, you expect them to work again and again, producing normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) signals as needed. Generally, they do work quite well, but if you want to test things for a little extra assurance, you might want to check out this project by Mr Innovative.
The automated device spins a NEMA17 stepper motor however many times you choose with a rotary encoder, registering the NO and NC signals that are sent to its Arduino Nano controller in response. The unit then gives a pass or fail output via a small OLED screen to let you know everything is functioning properly.

The WWE 2K20 roster is huge and loaded with NXT and WWE Superstars alongside WWE Legends and Hall of Famers. We’ll be revealing them all down the road, but we have a few bigtime names to share right out of the gate. Downloadable content for WWE 2K20 is completely different this year as well. In prior years, we’ve dropped packs of DLC after ship, but this year, we’re going to keep the game alive with significantly more content after launch that will deliver several new realms of themed content to nearly every aspect of the game. WWE 2K20 Originals are a series of packs included with every copy of the Deluxe and Collector’s Editions. And if you pre-order the Standard Edition, you get access to the first WWE 2K20 Original pack at no additional cost.
We’re excited to reveal more about WWE 2K20 Originals and everything else as we get closer to the October 22 release on PS4.
