Chirp brings data-over-sound capabilities your Arduino projects

    Reading Time: 2 minutes

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Chirp, a London-based company on a mission to simplify connectivity using sound. Chirp’s machine-to-machine communications software enables any device with a loudspeaker or microphone to exchange data via inaudible sound waves.

Starting today, our Chirp integration will allow Arduino-powered projects to send and receive data wirelessly over sound waves, using just microphones and loudspeakers. Thanks to some compatible libraries included in the official Arduino Library Manager and in the Arduino Create — as well as further comprehensive documentation, tutorials and technical support — it will be easy for anyone to add data-over-sound capabilities to their Arduino projects.

Our new Nano 33 BLE Sense board, with a DSP-optimised Arm Cortex-M4 processor, will be the first board in the Arduino range with the power to transmit and receive Chirp audio signals leveraging the board’s microphone as a receiver. From now on, the Chirp SDK for Arduino will support the following boards in send-only mode: Arduino MKR Zero, Arduino MKR Vidor 4000, Arduino MKR Fox 1200, Arduino MKR WAN 1300, Arduino MKR WiFi 1010, Arduino MKR GSM 1400, Arduino MKR NB 1500 and the Arduino Nano 33 IoT.

Creative applications of Arduino and Chirp include, but certainly are not limited to:

    • Triggering events from YouTube audio
    • Securely unlocking a smart lock with sound
    • Sending Wi-Fi credentials to bring offline devices onto a Wi-Fi network
    • Having a remote control that only interacts with the gadgets in the same room as you

Connectivity is a fundamental asset for our users, as the demands of IoT uptake require devices to communicate information seamlessly and with minimal impact for the end user. Chirp’s data-over-sound solution equips our boards with robust data transmission, helping us to deliver enhanced user experiences whilst increasing the capabilities of our hardware at scale,” said Massimo Banzi, Arduino co-founder.

“Sound is prevailing as a highly effective and versatile means of seamless data transmission, presenting developers with a simple to use, software-defined solution which can connect devices. Working with Arduino to extend the integration of data-over-sound across its impressive range of boards will not only increase the reach of Chirp’s technology, but provide many more developers with an accessible and easily integrated connectivity solution to help them drive their projects forward in all purposes and environments. We can’t wait to see what the Arduino community builds,” commented James Nesfield, Chirp CEO.

  • ID@Xbox Picks: Horror Games

    ID@Xbox Picks: Horror Games

    Reading Time: 6 minutes

Things that go bump in the night, evil that lurks in the shadows and jump scares so frightening that you jump out of your socks! Or perhaps you enjoy the thrill of the chase, manifesting as a malevolent spirit and making your friends scream with delight – if this sounds intriguing, enter if you dare… Because we’ve put together a list of some of the best heart-racing, adrenaline-pumping and mind-bending horror games from independent developers. You can play all these titles on Xbox One right now, including one available through Xbox Game Pass, so there’s no excuse not to find your next favorite horror game!

    Layers of Fear 2

The next installment in the Layers of Fear series is another psychological thriller that’ll have you hooked. Building upon the themes of the original, Layers of Fear 2 focuses on film as an art form as you play as an actor searching inside of himself to find inspiration for an upcoming role.

Taking place aboard an old ship — that just happens to be the set of his latest movie – you’ll explore the confines of the vessel and begin to develop the character for the film, finding clues and hints from the past occupants and crew. It’s not long until you start to question your reality as the ship becomes more difficult to traverse as your mind begins to play tricks on you.

With scenes inspired from iconic horror films such as “Se7en,” “Psycho,” and “The Shining,” Layers of Fear 2 masterfully displays the complexity and horror of the human psyche.

    Outlast

In this must-play classic horror game, you are journalist Miles Upshur, who has decided to explore an abandoned mental asylum. With no access to weaponry, he’ll confront deranged half-human creatures by… running and hiding. The inherent helplessness is one of the most terrifying aspects of Outlast.

Your only gadget is a small battery-powered camcorder with night vision allowing you to see faintly in the dark (hint: don’t run out of batteries). As the game progresses, you learn the events that previously transpired at the asylum and you may not like what you discover…

Already completed Outlast and looking for some more scares from developer Red Barrels? Consider exploring a terrifying rendition of the Sonoran Desert in search for your missing wife in Outlast 2. Or pick up both with the Outlast: Bundle of Terror!

    Among the Sleep

Few of us get through childhood without a few scares; being lost in a store, a spider landing on your face or a particularly intimidating clown… But what if things took a darker turn? After your mother is taken in the middle of the night, you and your teddy bear companion must attempt to find her.

Among the Sleep differentiates itself from many other horror titles by forcing you to solve puzzles with limited mental and physical abilities. For example: Because you’ll play through the eyes of a two-year-old child, all the text in the game is written in an indistinguishable language due to the child’s inability to read. The forced change in perspective also adds dread to everyday locations, such as a playground that towers over you or a heavy door that’s impossible to open. Discover the horror of the world through a toddler’s eyes in this subversive take on horror.

Dead by Daylight – Available on Xbox Game Pass

The concept is simple: there’s an evil presence on the loose and the survivors must repair generators to escape. Dead by Daylight features an unusual dynamic, which allows you to play as the antagonist, or as one of four survivors.

When playing as the antagonist the goal is a single-minded one; find and kill all the survivors. The game gets a bit more complex when playing as the soon-to-be victims. Since different generators exist across the map, players must work together to escape the killer. The game rewards risky play, so close calls with the predator can pay off in the long run.

We love this game because of the shift in dynamic that pits players against one another. There’s nothing more terrifying than an opponent that may be able to outwit you!

    Soma

After blacking out during a medical procedure, Simon Jarett wakes up on PATHOS-II, an abandoned research facility located deep in the ocean — he soon discovers he’s the only human on board.

Soma weaves a dark and captivating tale that delves into time-travel, consciousness, and futuristic technology. The dark, dimly lit hallways of the research facility beckon you to discover its secrets. Not to mention, the robots, and eventually other enemies you encounter, are truly disturbing.

If you find that all of this becomes a bit too much, try Safe Mode. This makes it so that enemies can’t harm you, allowing for a more accessible experience. Although this does remove some suspense, the atmosphere and intricate story ensure that you’re kept on edge. This title is a perfect choice for those that crave intelligent horror.

    Friday the 13th: The Game

Play as one of the most iconic slasher film villains ever: Jason Voorhees. Revisit the eerie woods of Camp Crystal Lake and get ready to either hunt or be hunted. With a focus on emulating the very one-sided power dynamic of your favorite classic slasher flicks, makes matches in this game terrifyingly fun.

The counselors’ goal is to survive the night, escape, or call the cops. There are six versions of Jason you can play as, each from a different movie and unique advantages and disadvantages. Jason’s kills are, expectedly, spectacularly gruesome, paying homage to the film franchise.

You could call this the perfect complement to the legendary Friday the 13th franchise; any fan of these movies would be mad to miss Friday the 13th: The Game.

Thanks for joining us on this spooky journey, we hope you’ve discovered your next new favorite horror game to play or been reacquainted with an old one you’re dying to replay. Metal Wolf Chaos XD Available Now on Xbox One

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

Since its original release in 2004, Metal Wolf Chaos has been a bit of a legend or peculiarity in FromSoftware’s stories history. While it was genuinely an attempt to appeal to gamers outside of Japan with a more arcade-style experience mech game, in a cruel twist of fate the game was never released outside of FromSoftware’s home nation of Japan. And so, a legend was born and grew from there.

When it came time to bring the game to a whole new generation of FromSoftware fans and gamers in general that never had a chance to play the original, it was important to do it right. The game itself is a joy to play with arcade style combat and larger than life setpieces so we wanted to keep that all intact, as it was meant to be experienced.

Metal Wolf Chaos XDMetal Wolf Chaos XD

But Metal Wolf Chaos has come to be known for all sorts of eccentricities so General Arcade painstakingly remastered the original files of the now famous voiceover, redrew the overzealous original UI, and upgraded some of the geometry in the backgrounds and landscapes so they’d read better on modern 1080p and 4K displays. The goal was to let fans enjoy the Xbox game they never got a chance to play, and to do so seamlessly on an Xbox One. Starting today everyone in the world can and we hope you agree that General Arcade and FromSoftware accomplished their goal.

Metal Wolf Chaos XDMetal Wolf Chaos XD

A massive shoutout to the fans that have been following Metal Wolf Chaos’ developments since we announced it at E3 2018 and we hope you enjoy the work FromSoftware did to create the game in 2004 and the attention to detail that General Arcade has put into the 2019 re-release as Metal Wolf Chaos XD!

Metal Wolf Chaos XD is available now for Xbox One on the Microsoft Store. Click here for purchase details.

    Reading Time: 3 minutes

The long-awaited beta for Black Desert on PlayStation 4 is now available as a free download (no PS Plus subscription required) for all players until August 13 at 2:00 a.m. PDT. Begin your adventure and experience the open-world action of our sandbox MMORPG for the first time on PS4 before its launch on August 22. To prepare for the start of your quest, we’re sharing details you should know before diving into the beta!

The world of Black Desert contains vast regions, fierce enemies, and an immersive story that’s waiting to be explored. You’ll choose from six different character classes: Warrior, Sorceress, Ranger, Berserker, Wizard, or Witch. Each class offers various strengths and weaknesses, so choose wisely to cast powerful magic, launch stealth attacks, or deliver devastating damage in this open-ended sandbox world.

Black Desert provides you with endless customization options to create a living, breathing world that feels like your own. Personalize your character with Black Desert’s highly detailed customization tool and create an Adventurer to become your true self. You’ll be ready to explore three different expansive regions within the beta, Serendia, Balenos and Calpheon, powering up your character to a maximum level of 50. Playing within the beta also rewards you with an exclusive Sky Hawk pet when Black Desert launches on August 22, allowing players to loot items, increase Knowledge Gain Chance and find rare monsters.

While the world of Black Desert is known for its real-time combat and in-depth action within quests, your adventure also includes the chance to become a part of an expansive, living world populated by players around the world. Here are a few of the in-game events that you’re invited to join during the beta for the chance to win exclusive prizes and content:

    • Decorate your residence and share screenshots on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram or via our official forums to win ornaments for your home at launch.
    • Test your fishing skills and reel in the ‘Fish Bones’ item for various rewards at launch.
    • Learn to tame a wild horse and win a new horse outfit for use during the beta.
    • Play Hide-n-Seek with Pearl Abyss GMs – finding them gets you a chance to win awards at launch.
    • Compete to become the fastest cart racer in the entire beta, with the fastest participant winning rewards at launch.
    • Participate in a battle of the GMs at the Red Battlefield in a 2v2 match and intense PvP action.

On August 13, we’re ending the beta with an enormous fireworks show for all players to enjoy. Think back on all of your amazing adventures and share the moment with friends online as we celebrate the final moments of the beta.

We hope to see you all in the beta, and that these tips help your adventure in Black Desert!

Call of Duty: MWR Variety Map Pack

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iK8t3Ec6DU?rel=0]

Das Variety-DLC-Pack für Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® Remastered enthält vier neu gemasterte Mehrspieler-Karten vom Originalspiel!

    STEEP

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAGXhqUcPzs?rel=0]

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvN5QbbMAyQ?rel=0]

    The Assembly

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G090NnOUOM?rel=0]
